How To Build A (Realistic) Femme Fatale Wardrobe: Daily Essentials To Harness Your Dark Feminine Energy
The goal is to feel sexy and sophisticated in well-fitting pieces that are appropriate for the time of day and occasion. Elegance is not embodied by a particular ensemble but by how well-suited it is for the event you're attending. Following proper etiquette involves taking context into account. Femme fatale dressing mixes classic, contemporary, and edgy pieces with a hint of glamour for some extra appeal.
Let's begin with the foundation: Choose pieces that strike a balance between sexy and streamlined. Matching lingerie always makes you feel hot and put together. Make sure its seamless, comfortable, and breathable.
A basic lace bra – in a black or skin-toned colorway (I prefer an underwire with some padding for the look and feel, but adjust for your cup size/comfort if needed).
Pair with a seamless, matching lace thong that can be worn under anything and should not show under your clothes.
For that time of the month, swap out the thong for seamless boyshorts with lace trim (for some much-needed sensuality when you're feeling a bit more sluggish to have some extra coverage).
Shapewear: A high-waisted thong, shorts, or a short bodysuit will likely be the most versatile option (my favorite brands are Commando and Heist). Use to streamline your silhouette (it's not necessarily about size or weight, just making sure your clothes lay properly over your curves).
Simple tops in sensual fabrics (Pima Cotton, Silk, Satin): Every woman needs some well-cut tank tops, t-shirts, and long-sleeve tees. Vary your wardrobe with a few body-conscious and few relaxed styles with each sleeve length. Scoop neck and crew neck options look more refined than v-necks and are more versatile for layering. Turtlenecks are a great option for the colder months and offer sensual appeal without showing any skin. Search for these staple tees in comfortable, luscious fabrics like Pima cotton and washable silk (Everlane has great, more affordable options. Try Lilysilk and Lunya if you want to invest a bit more into these basics).
Camis, Blouses, and Button-Downs: Black silks, satins, leather, coated fabrics, and a simple cotton option or two offer a nice variety for different climates and occasions. Invest in classic button-down options and experiment with wrap-front, turtleneck, halter necks, twist-front, shirred, and strappy details– depending on your personal aesthetic and preferences. Look for luxurious details, like gold or mother of pearl buttons to elevate your daily outfits.
Blazers, Leather Jackets, Trench & Tailored Wool Coats:
Sharp lines and luscious fabrics provide an irresistibly sophisticated allure that allows you to feel sexy and stay warm. Invest at least one of each and ensure they're well-tailored.
(Vegan) Leather, Silk, or Wool Blazer (In Black)
A Classic Moto Jacket
A Black Trench Coat (in cotton or vegan leather) for transitional weather
A Single or Double-Breasted Black Wool Coat (that hits at or right above the knee)
Well-Cut Trousers & A Few Perfect Pairs of Jeans: Go for classic wool trousers, black jeans, or leather pants in a straight or boot-cut silhouette that fits like a glove. Try structured yoga pants or ribbed/leather-trimmed options for lazy days.
Simple Skirts With An Elevated Twist: Try a leather mini skirt or a silk midi skirt to add a more feminine element to your look.
Slip Dress!! Try a black option with or without lace trim – pair it a leather jacket or some type of blazer over the top to keep it casual and classy for daily wear.
Essential Footwear:
Classic Black Loafer (Round or Square-Toe with Minimal Gold or No Hardware)
Black Lace-Up (Combat) Boots
Knee High/Over The Knee Black Boots (Flat Option)
Block Heel Square-Toe Boot (Vagabond has great options for every day – try Miista for slightly more elevated options)
Clean White Sneaker (for super casual days)
Accessories:
Chain-link Necklaces/Bracelets (Gold, Silver, or Mixed Metals)
Simple Hoops/Ear Cuffs
Classic Wrist Watch
A Structured Large Black Tote or Satchel Bag

fashion yikes
So I’m going to a wedding in Chicago (ish... it turns out it’s really in Indiana?? ok whatever) in June and I decided that I Deserve a New Dress for this occasion since the last wedding I went to, I wore an old one and safety-pinned it to my bra and thought I was fine but in the photos holy shit my tits looked insane and nobody told me and I’m sort of lowkey horrified. Anyway!
I was figuring I’d find something from Torrid but nothing looked good, I hit a few of the other sites I’ve bought stuff from lately and was unimpressed, so I finally went to eShakti, which I’ve known about for literally a decade but never bought anything from. (And yes, I considered making something, but you know what, no, I have enough shit going on. No.)
So... I have a dress on order.
Tumblr media
x
I don’t own anything green currently so it’ll be a nice change. It’s fancy, which means I’ll have to find occasions to wear it. I never wear shit that length but why the hell not give it a shot. In my teens I never wore short skirts, in my twenties I never wore long skirts, so I guess I’ll split the difference now.
I got a $35 credit for giving them my email address so it was like $40. I won’t complain too much about that. eShakti famously does all this customizable shit but it turns out their size chart is pretty close to my real measurements so we’ll see if that works out as-is.
I have pearl jewelry I can wear with it, and some opals too, so that’s sorted. But I don’t have any shoes that will suit. Everything’s either gross and worn-out, or black, or teal.
I ought to just buy something white and strappy anywhere shoes are sold but of course I really want to splash out on fancy shoes. I won’t, but aren’t these gorgeous?
Tumblr media
Not gonna, those are Fluevogs, but... you know... if I were that kind of bitch... you know I could walk like eight miles in those and never stumble. Sigh. (I’ve been pining for the black and white paisley colorway of that shoe forever. Hush I’m a girl with needs.)
For real though, I should get white shoes with this dress, right? For June?
I mean, rules are for chumps, it literally doesn’t matter and whatever I do, someone will tell me I look cute, someone will gossip about me in the ladies’ room like who the fuck was that bitch, and it won’t matter either way. Nobody told me at the last wedding that my tits looked weird as fuck, nobody’ll say shit to me at this wedding. (I don’t know anyone at this wedding, it’s Dude’s cousin’s son, who I’ve met twice exactly. I know his grandma well, Aunt Ruta has us over all the time, and formally taught me to sew, and judges me hardcore all the time but she’s allowed to do that I’m cool with it.)
But like. I could wear nude heels? What the fuck are nude heels for? Does anyone really know?? Is there a rough guide to this shit? I have no idea.
Probably these, huh?
Tumblr media
Except why the fuck don’t they come in 9.5, literally everyone wears a 9.5. God damn it, I don’t want to gamble on a 9...
I should just go to DSW shoe and try to find like... anything. I could wear metallic silver with that dress, or gold glitter, probably. I have some platform stiletto silver glitter sandals from my bestie’s wedding but I don’t think I feel like digging those out. They’d be fun, but, also, they were hell, she got married in a place with a cobblestone courtyard and they made us take pictures on the lawn and stilettos, bih, I almost died. Platform stilettos. I was lucky that there were an odd number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, so I got to go down the aisle on the arm of a girl I knew from high school, very sturdy and supportive and extremely entertained by my spending the entire rehearsal in flats pretending to stagger around to “practice” for my stiletto platforms. (I did not trip during the wedding, because that was not about me, but the rehearsal was basically The Me Show because I knew my audience: my audience was the bride, stone-cold sober and nervous. She thinks I’m hilarious, which is why we’ve been friends since 1995.)
ANYHOW i just know there’s a subset of y’all that like fashion, so I figured I’d share my rumination on this topic.
Also this is a great excuse to make myself a big fuckoff white silk-ribbon hair flower, right? I’ve got a book on making silk flowers, a 50-pack of alligator clips stashed somewhere, and just enough spare time maybe if I focus, and I’ve been meaning to make a hair flower of some kind since I bought those alligator clips in like 2010.
Ooh maybe I should braid a green ribbon through my hair and do a braid-crown updo with a big hair flower, that would be keen. Even better would be a huge sun hat but I have no idea if this wedding is outdoors and also I gotta get there on a plane and I don’t think I have time to learn how to make a fascinator, so.

Seven Standouts from the California Festival of Speed
While walking through next year’s hyper-aesthetic Luftgekuhlt display, don’t forget these cars were built for driving, and not just for boosting your selfie portfolio. This year’s California Festival of Speed was held on the same weekend as Luft, allowing me to balance the static with the kinetic.
Held at the sprawling Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, where the SoCal chapter of PCA flexes its flat-six muscles, enjoying a three-day weekend of autocross, track sessions, and car parades in every type of Porsche imaginable. The fun isn’t strictly limited to club members, but Stuttgart’s finest was out in full force. I wandered between the packed Porsche-only parking lot and hot paddocks to find seven standout cars.
Porsche 928 Race Car
Though Porsche never raced the 928 in an official capacity, that hasn’t stopped enthusiasts from preparing these V-8 bullets for trackwork. Like most of the cars milling around the paddock, this red 928 is used and abused – in a good way, of course. The owner mentioned he’s raced it for over 20 years, with few mechanical problems.
Porsche 911 993 Turbo
Not all the cars in the infield were road-rashed track rats. There was a small lineup of showcars for contrast, a group that included this striking 993 Turbo. I’m used to  seeing the last aircooled Turbo in various drab colors like black and silver, so this factory-fresh turquoise example was a treat.
Porsche Cayman GT4
The car is cool, the Salzburg livery is cooler. This white-and-red colorway is a throwback to the famous 917K that took the first place finish at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans. It remains one of the most enduring liveries, having most recently graced the Porsche 918 Spyder as an optional appearance package.
Porsche 917K Replica
Speaking of the Salzburg colors, here’s the real-deal. Well, kind of. It’s a replica of the aforementioned Le Mans winner, and a well-executed tribute at that. According to some event organizers, the bones of an old Superformance kit provides the structure, with mechanical motivation coming from a 911-sourced flat-six. I’m not sure if that’s entirely accurate, but from ten feet, it looks (and sounds) damn good.
Porsche 997.2 911 GT3 RS 4.0
Here’s a slice of bright white Porsche royalty. For some, the 997.2 4.0 is “it.” It’s the last of an era, the last gasp before the car grew substantially in size with the 991.1, and added a bundle of extra driver assists that included electronic assisted steering. Years before the 4.0-liter in the 911 R, 991.1 GT3 RS, and new 991.2 GT3 family got us hot and bothered, the 997.2 four-point-oh offered a very select few (600 global units) the chance to use real-deal motorsport goodies on the street. This ultimate Mezger mill utilizes the crankshaft from the RSR, among other things, and returns 493 hp for plenty of circuit fun.
Porsche 991.1 911 GT3 RS
There isn’t necessarily anything special about this GT3, but it was nice to see such a valuable and capable car being wrung out in the manner it was designed to do. Use ‘em or lose ‘em, people.
Porsche 997 911 Carrera S
I figured there were enough red Porsches on this list, so here’s a tastefully modified Carrera S in metallic brown. Aside from the dealership specials in black, silver, or white, 911 buyers tend to enjoy colors, so this was one of multiple brown 911s in the vicinity.

11 pairs of tough training shorts every man needs for spring 2017
Brittany Smith
Courtesy of Rhone
When it comes to workout apparel, a lot of guys treat training shorts as an afterthought.
Sure, you could slide on a pair of baggy basketball shorts you've been wearing since you were 18 and be content. But aside from looking sloppy, all that extra material will bunch up and get in the way of your movements. You can't squat as low, jump as high, or move as comfortably as you would in a pair of shorts made with movement in mind.
[RELATED1]
It's not just looks, either. Training shorts need to be tough (so they don't get ripped up by barbell knurling), sweat-wicking (so you don't feel like you're sitting in a puddle all workout), lightweight (so they don't slow you down), and stretchy (so they move with you). Here, we've picked 11 of our favorite training shorts on the market right now.
11 pairs of tough training shorts every man needs for spring 2017
1 of 11

Rhone Phase 8 Lined Short
Best for: Cross training
These aren't just another pair of black training shorts. They're amplified with Rhone's impressive GoldFusion technology—scientists literally infused gold particles into the brand's performance fabrics for a softer feel, faster drying time, and unbeatable odor neutralization, so you can move quicker and more comfortably without sticking to your shorts. This multi-functional cross training short also has durable water-resistant panels and mesh vents, to boot. If you're the type of guy who's always pushing to do more, these duds will take you the distance. ($68, rhone.com)
  Courtesy Image
Hylete Verge II Flex-Woven Zip Pocket Short
Best for: powerlifting, Olympic lifting, CrossFit These are next-level quality training shorts, leagues above the crappy mesh ones you've been buying at the mall. Crafted from a highly flexible woven fabric, these Hylete shorts are meant to feel feather-light and practically nonexistent, but resist barbell scraping and chalk dust. Panels across the back and sides of the short offer you increased mobility where you need it most, and the brand's very own patented waistband can stretch up to four inches so it won't cinch or bite into your sides when you're moving some heavy-ass metal. What's more, you can secure the shorts' drawstring on the inside for a seamless competition look, or you can lace it up on the outside—no Velcro necessary. Available in quad-cut, above the knee, regular, and long. ($80, hylete.com)
Courtesy Image
Reebok CrossFit Super Nasty Rip Stop Board Short
Best for: CrossFit
Arguably the most durable of the bunch, these Reebok CrossFit board shorts are uniquely engineered with waxed ripstop panels that keep barbells (think: hip thrusts) and turf (think: burpees) from eating up your shorts. Complemented by stretchy, water-resistant panels on the back of the shorts, you've got maximum comfort—no swampy-ness during long, grueling WODs or restriction during squats. This is a slimmer fit that keeps the material close to your sides without getting in your way. ($80, reebok.com)
Courtesy Image
2XU Accelerate Compression Shorts
Best for: HIIT, weightlifting, bodyweight workouts
Drawstrings are great for keeping your pants on. You know what they're not great for? Any exercise where you're lying down or bending over. But with the truly seamless 2XU Accelerate Compression Shorts, you don't have to worry about knots digging into your waist during Supermans, cords biting into your spine halfway through leg lifts, or waistbands cutting into your stomach in the midst of Romanian deadlifts. The stay-flat fit of these shorts mean no bunching or discomfort. ($70, 2xu.com)
  Courtesy Image
EYSOM 8" Training Short
Best for: Cross training, lifting
You sure as hell don't have to sacrifice style for function. These EYSOM training shorts have a tailored look and feel, plus sharp-looking color blocking that's perfect for spring. The performance fabric is environmentally friendly and soft against your skin to keeps things comfortable and chafe-free, while the eight-inch inseam is designed so the shorts fall just above your knees to maximize mobility. If you don't want the fit to be as sculpted or fitted, go up a size. ($160, eysom.com)
Courtesy Image
Under Armour HeatGear® Training Short
Best for: outdoor workouts
If you don't love the fit of a compression short when you train, but still want a close-to-skin garment, try Under Armour's HeatGear® Training short. They're ideal for outdoor training sessions, thanks to the brand's stay-cool technology. The fabric, incredibly smooth and light, boasts UPF 30+ sun protection, technical sweat-wicking abilities that transport your sweat to the outside of the short for quicker drying, and anti-odor fibers that prevent bacteria from dooming your shorts to permastink. ($30, underarmour.com)
Courtesy Image
Ryu Everything Short
Best for: Boxing, HIIT, circuit training
Maybe you're someone who likes to do a traditional split one day, then jump in a strength and conditioning class the next. If the only thing that's predictable about your workouts is how consistently you do them, then you need Ryu's Everything Short. Crafted from a four-way stretch knit that's both durable and flexible, and side slits that give you even more room to jump, twist, and kick—you'll want to wear these shorts every day. (But please don't—not unless you're extra vigilant with your laundry.) ($55, ryu.com)
Courtesy Image
Ten Thousand Foundation Short
Best for: Olympic lifts, weightliting, powerlifting, CrossFit
Just as Rhone takes advantage of the bacteria-killing properties of gold particles, Ten Thousand utilizes the power of another precious metal: silver ions. The anti-stink treatment actually makes it so you can skip a round of laundry every other workout (don't get too lax, though, for the sake of your fellow gym-goers). The boardshort is available with an optional liner made from an Italian jersey fabric that's super soft yet durable and resists chafing. Opt between a seven-inch (which falls about two inches above the knee for most guys) or a nine-inch inseam (which will hit you right at the knee)—or get both to cover all your workout needs and style preferences. ($58 for no liner, $68 for liner, tenthousand.cc)
Courtesy Image
Nike Flex-Repel Men's 8" Training Shorts
Best for: HIIT, boxing, outdoor workouts
Roundhouse kicks. Handstands. Sprawls. Whatever you're doing, you'll have freedom of movement wearing Nike's Flex-Repel shorts. The eight-inch inseam is fused with a super-pliable fabric that really moves with you. The fibers pull sweat to the surface, allowing for quicker dry times and a more breathable feel—even if sweat's just pouring out of you. And if you decide to take your workout outside, the shorts' exterior has a water-repellent fabric to shield you from light rain without sacrificing that light, breathable feel. ($100, nike.com)
Courtesy Image
FL2 Voyage Short
Best for: outdoor workouts, cross training
Pound through CrossFit WOD Murph (one-mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, then another mile run), or blast out some sprints after a bodyweight workout at your local track. These shorts have UPF 30+ sun protection, so you can stay outside all day long without worrying about the sun getting through the fibers (can't say the same about the rest of your body, though). Add to that side and back pockets for storage, and two bright colorways, and you've got yourself the perfect pair of spring performance shorts. ($55, fabletics.com)
Courtesy Image
Rogue Black Ops Shorts
Best for: CrossFit, weightlifting
Nevermind flashy colors and frills—these Rogue shorts are designed to get the job done, period. Made from a four-way stretch blend of polyester and spandex, the Black Ops Shorts truly deliver total range of motion, perfect for transitioning between deep-squat wall balls to towering box jumps. There's no inner lining, further enhancing your mobility. And there are split side seams and mesh venting within the waistband to keep the shorts from sticking to your profusely-sweaty lower half. ($49, roguefitness.com)

This multi-functional cross training short also has durable water-resistant panels and mesh vents, to boot. If you're the type of guy who's always pushing to do more, these duds will take you the distance. ($68, rhone.com)

Reebok CrossFit Super Nasty Rip Stop Board Short

This is a slimmer fit that keeps the material close to your sides without getting in your way. ($80, reebok.com)

The stay-flat fit of these shorts mean no bunching or discomfort. ($70, 2xu.com)
