Sabbats: Lughnasadh Basics and Correspondences
Lughnasadh is one of the four Celtic Cross Quarter Festivals, also referred to as the fire festivals. It is the first of three harvest festivals held in the fall. As the grain and corn are gathered and preserved for the season, farmers celebrated the last of the long and warm days of summer.
The cross quarters are linked to an old farming calendar. This was a time when people were very close to the land and their lives were governed by the changing of the seasons and the need to grow enough food to survive. Modern Irish Gaelic calls the month of August Lúnasa which is the modern variation of Lughnasadh. The name originates from Lugh, a mythological hero to some, sun god to others.

Druid - Yen & Aiden
Ok, I'm getting the courage to actually display my little man(s) and show off my first (not really) OC in a major fandom space. Fortunately, I already wrote down the details of this little guy a long time ago. A lot of it is gonna be under this read more bracket. Also, I made 1 picrew of Yen and that's unfortunately all I have in terms of how I kinda visualize my OCs because the other two are too MK than soft anime to be represented properly. But anyways, here's my spill
Tumblr media
Name(s): Yen & Aiden // Druid (He/Him/They/Them)
Realm Origin: Outworld (Lived in Earthrealm)
Factions: None (Formerly - Deadly Alliance, Wu Shi Academy, Shirai Ryu)
Appearance:
Druid
Druid has sun-kissed skin and eyes with slit pupils that resemble the greens of the forests and jungles of nature. A long face with a Roman nose; ears are pointed, and thick eyebrows. Druids hair is wild and unkept, knotted and wavy appearance, colored copper red with various twigs, leaves, and flowers inhabiting his head. Occasionally, one can find insects crawling about or even find birds nestling on their head. His body is littered with tattoos, none of which he had imprinted himself or by his creators. Their designs highly represent Celtic tattoos resembling ancient symbols.
Aiden
Resembles the closest to Druid, maintaining the Roman nose, long face, thick eyebrows, pointed ears, and slit eyes, but the color is more pronounced. Hair takes a more brown color than red and maintains the aesthetic of being messy, but it's more style than non-commitment to take care of his hair. Aiden has Yen to thank for his upkeep. Instead of Celtic-type tattoos, thanks to his time spent with the Shirai Ryu, Aiden sports Japanese-styled tattoos. He actually has a matching tattoo with Hanzo
Yen
Compared to Druid & Aiden, Yen is not as noticeably built since he's more spellcaster build than a physical martial artist build. More toned muscles and is leanly built, and doesn't have any tattoos. Hair is also brown, but a bit on the lighter side and very fluffy (give bby head pats). Instead of slit pupils, his pupils are round and dialed up, almost overtaking the irises that present his similarly green eyes. Face is more soft and round, and Yen also possess pointed ears like his brother Aiden and their former self Druid. Occasionally wears glasses because he likes the aesthetic of wearing them.
Druid - Harbringer of Nature's Will
Following the events when Shang Tsung discovers his island and the wellspring of souls, his Frankenstein experiments persisted. Along with wanting to discover the secrets the well of souls contained, Shang found something else on the island that piqued his interest. Aside from signs that the island was inhabited by sorcerers, other occupants may have shared the island or predated even the sorcerers. Ancient buildings and temples were woven and shaped by the nature surrounding it, intentionally overtaken by the animal and plant life, unlike the other structures, which were left to rot with time. And these "hut-dwelling" spaces were not out in the open for one to find; Shang had to unintentionally run into these peculiar buildings or intentionally look for them since they were hidden away deep in the forests, practically protected by the natural foliage and ferocious animals of the island.
But what made Shang interested in these buildings wasn't because of some historical or architectural interest but because of the magic stored in these places. It was unlike anything he had experienced or seen. Where the sorcerer was used to magic akin to necromancy, this spellworking was more primal in nature (quite literally). In the environment and the few animals that called these spaces home, they were imbued with high potents of magic. There were few written scripts, often carved in stone or wood, that Shang could not read; no matter whom he discretely demonstrated his findings with, no one could say for sure what the writings were. But, what Shang was able to ascertain was that the scripts were an ancient language comparable to what one would call "Old Celtic" or "Druidic" in Earthrealm. A language imbued with the magical capabilities to manipulate the elements and nature itself. What made this language even stranger is that there are elements of Outworlder and Earthrealmer linguistics, which added to the complexity and impossibility of translating the language.
Aside from this annoying setback, this did not deter Shang Tsung from trying to backdoor hack into this strange and powerful form of magic. Yet, despite his best efforts, Shang could not wield such prowess for himself...However...Shang Tsung got a bit of inspiration to want another "loyal" servant, much like Reptile, impressed by his shapechanging capabilities to change from a ferocious reptilian beast to blending in with a humanoid crowd. Thus, Shang Tsung got the idea to recreate a, albeit smaller, version of the Soul Stealer devices, but instead of siphoning souls, he would use the machine to forcefully store the primal magic into an item and go from there. Of course, he had to get the assistance of his good friend (boyfriend) Quan Chi to make this a reality, and the pair steadily got to work.
The project would eventually become successful, Shang Tsung eager to take this power for himself. However, there was a minor setback. Once the device was activated, while it did what was intended, absorbing the natural magic of the surrounding island (while also altering and even desolating the environment), it did something unexpected. Much like how Quan Chi was able to construct Ermac from a collection of souls, he replicated the effect to create another being made from the primal energies of the magic they were siphoning, much to Shang Tsungs' mild chagrin who hoped to have a more "hands-on" approach to making his Reptile replacement. Not only that but there was the concern of losing control of this creature they created. They already lost Ermac because the motherfucker decided to grow a conscience due to the soul of Jerrod taking control, so what's stopping this being from doing the same?
Well, their worries were a bit misplaced. Due to the creature being created by primal magic and not the souls of the living, there was a bit more leeway into getting this individual into doing their bidding. However, this person, you might as well be attempting to train a tiger; a grown-ass tiger at that. The moment Druid (the name Shang Tsung & Quan Chi agreed upon) came out of the wet work, they immediately were hostile to the pair, attempting to kill and eat them. Our Deadly Alliance had to forcefully restrain Druid for their own protection as if they were putting their untamed pitbull on a chain leash. It was so bad that they had to force a singular soul*, one that was powerful in life, to ensure that they had some maneuverability to maintain Druid. While this gave Druid the capability to reason, due to their primal nature and the fact that the pair wanted to keep Druid simple, Druid was still thought of as an animal rather than a person. Better yet, they were a lovely weapon.
And Druid didn't seem to mind this demeaning station they were placed in. Their primal nature ensured that all they cared about was sleeping, eating, shitting, pissing, occasionally wanting to mate, and protecting Shang Tsung & Quan Chi. The most that Druid was able to obtain in terms of individuality was that they picked up on select keywords and phrases to express their wants & needs. But what made Druid invaluable to the Deadly duo was Druids' power over nature. Being imbued with primal magic, Druid was capable of shaping, changing, and commanding the land & its inhabitants to their very will. Druid could cause deadly natural disasters, utilize spores to poison their enemies, manipulate the elements, command beasts & plants to their call, shapechange into beasts; anything that involves the natural world, Druid could make it bend to their will. While neither sorcerer could take these primal magics for themselves, having some control over Druid was the next best thing.
Because of their power over nature, any atrocities they had Druid commit for their plans, it was almost easy for their enemies to explain it away as natural happenstance. But things would finally come to a head when Earthrealms protectors (Raiden, Kung Lao, Scorpion, and Shujinko) caught on to the Deadly Alliances' new shenanigans and confronted them head-on. Naturally, a fight breaks out between the two opposing forces, and Druid was caught in the crossfire, seemingly having died. But this wouldn't be the case. Instead of dying, emerging from their corpse were two children. One was no older than 5, while the other was an infant*. Confused and about to experience the ones they swore to protect about to get bodied, the 5-year-old boy, in a burst of emotions and energy, deterred the attackers, providing them a means to escape while Earthrealms champions were disoriented.
Yen & Aiden - Nature's Wrath & Nature's Grace
Back at Shang Tsung's island, there was now a new dilemma. With Druid split into two children, their memories seemingly lost in the process, as well; even with their primal magic, they're still children. Thus, this was a major setback for the duo as they didn't know what to do with the kids. During this time, the deadly duo did not bother to name either child. For the sake of simplicity, the infant would later be named Yen, and the older boy would be titled Aiden; we'll be addressing them as such going forward.
Being children, they were now highly dependent on the sorcerers for their protection, Yen being the most vulnerable. Not only that, but the duo quickly learned that Aiden became far more hostile and territorial when not in direct eyesight of their other half. This made Aiden a threat to Shang and Chi as the boy had little to no control over their powers now, letting their emotions control what his powers did rather than any innate training they obtained when they were Druid. Due to circumstances that happened between the children and the duo, by the time Aiden turned 8, out of fear and disdain for his caretakers, he took his baby brother and escaped to Earthrealm, running away from Shang Tsung and Quan Chi.
Escaping to Earthrealm, Aiden was further pushed to care for Yen on his own, playing "mama bear," so to speak, as he protected his other half with deadly care. He refused anyone who attempted to get close to them, even if they had good intentions; his first response being violence to deter others away. Originally, Aiden hunted for their food and shelter before "upgrading" to typical urchin shit when they discovered towns and cities. And it wouldn't take long for Aiden to get the attention of Liu Kang and his allies because the moment someone attempted to step into Aiden's space, the boy went bonkers.
Now, this wasn't the first time Aiden attacked anyone for getting too close; he even killed one person for attempting to interact with them. But what would put Aiden & Yen on the radar was when Aiden destroyed an entire town. When Aiden was stealing from a store, he ended up getting caught by an asshole manager (the kind who are exceptionally harsh to stealing youngins), which caused Aiden to wild out as he attempted to get away. Things would get worse when Aiden saw a couple carrying his younger brother away. Yen got anxious as Aiden was gone longer than usual, so the still-infant decided to go looking for his brother. Yen ran into a couple going on a stroll and got concerned about a child being alone. They were going to carry Yen to the police department in hopes that they could report a child missing their parents.
Aiden saw them walking away with his brother. Combined with the stress of running from the shop owner, who was still chasing him, Aiden went beserk and let it all out. Shapechanging into every animal imaginable and unleashing his full power, Aiden made chase after the couple. The outcome resulted in him reclaiming his baby brother, but the entire town was in shambles as nature forcibly retook the land and killed hundreds. A catastrophe this large gained the immediate attention of Liu Kang and OIA (Outer World Investigation Agency) as each of them expected this to be another attack from Shang Tsung or other enemies of Earthrealm. What they found instead was two scared kids when they tracked down where the pair was.
Despite their efforts to calm the children, Aiden's insistence to be uncooperative forced Liu Kang's hand to knock the boy out. Recognizing that the boys possessed similar powers and visages to Druid, Liu Kang offered to house the children. Warding the brothers became a quick challenge as Liu Kang quickly picked up on Aiden's hostile nature and his insistence to be near Yen. It seemed no matter how much anyone tried to appease Aiden, the boy would not budge from his mental belief that everyone was a threat. Even rightful discipline did little to fix his attitude. That's when Liu had the idea to have Scoripion personally attend to the boy, seeing Aiden's defiance similar to Bi-Han's grouchy attitude. Scorpion gladly took up the challenge as he saw eye-to-eye with the Fire Gods' outlook on Aiden. They never separated the brothers, knowing that it would only peeve Aiden further.
Scorpion made some mild progress with Aiden, but it still wasn't enough to soften the boys' heart. What finally helped Aiden to chill the fuck out was when he almost accidentally hurt his own brother. The Shirai Ryu and the Lin Kuei were tussling again. Unfortunately, Aiden and Yen got caught up in the madness. Overwhelmed and desiring to protect his brother, Aiden went stupid and crazy, targeting everyone and anyone. However, at this time, Yen has grown up and attempted to stop his brother from harming their friends. Blinded by his paranoia and anger, Aiden struck at his younger brother, injuring Yen gravely. The Shirai Ryu would triumph, but Aiden was left stunned and devastated at what he'd done, spiraling deeper and deeper into self-guilt by the second. Fortunately for the young lad, Scorpion and Tomas were quick to provide understanding, yet firm, comfort to Aiden.
This moment would be the turning point for Aiden as he promised himself and Yen that he would never lay another finger on him again. This would soon bring Aiden down a path of trust as he learned to put faith in those who wished him well.
Aiden, Yen, Druid - One with the Land
Reaching adulthood, the brothers assisted the Shirai Ryu and others who would defend Earthrealm. However, the reason for their good standing with Earthrealms protectors differed for each brother. Yen, being the softer of the pair, was more vocal about protecting not only the land, but the people who dwelled within it. Aiden, however, leaned closer to simply ensuring that nature flourished and uprooting anyone who would harm it; willing to accept collateral damage if it were to happen. Despite Aiden's standing, he was still connected to the hip to Yen, willingly living in a rural town in England with his brother.
Yen serves as the primary breadwinner of the household as he holds a floristry shop called the House of Blossoms and occasionally does odd jobs here and there. For the longest time, nearly everyone in the village didn't know that Yen had a brother because Aiden rarely interacted with others. Aiden preferred being out in the woods, hunting like a predator, and living like a lumberjack in a cabin in the woods. Yen did try to encourage Aiden to get a job, and he did try. However, one week in a coffee shop, Aiden was already over it with the entitled tourist and the equally unthankful regulars. Aiden would get a sudden surge of popularity as he had the typical "brooding & mysteriousness" that makes others swoon and curious. Only for people to be put off as he does not get better the more you know about him (well, he technically does, but he maintains a stoic, resting bitch attitude).
Between the two, Aiden is the only one who has a good idea of their origins with the Deadly Alliance bros. Aiden only had Scorpion, Raiden, Kung Lao, and Shujinkos' side of the story when it came to their genesis as Druid, learning from them that he and Yen were once one being before being split into two persons. It was then that Aiden came to terms with why he was so overprotective of Yen and why he would lose his shit when he wasn't around him. They were two sides of the same soul, and being away from the other conjured anxiety and stress to both participants. Separation anxiety, essentially.
Learning too about how, as Druid, they were protectors of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, piqued Aiden's curiosity to discover more about his creators, and sought to walk his own path to find anything that would get him a chance to meet his makers. However, he would be making this journey alone, without Yen. Aiden wanted to break away from his emotional dependence to Yen, and so he left without a word. Leaving his brother's side was comparable to walking on scorching hot coals as his base instinct came up with every terrible outcome that could happen to his brother in his absence. Aiden used this existential dread as the main motivation to push himself forward to uncover the truth of their creation; hoping in time that he would overcome this anxious feeling that drags him back.
But Aiden's separation anxiety doesn't only affect Aiden alone. Yen's side of the spectrum hasn't been discussed, so we might as well touch on it a bit. Even as a young infant, Yen had his own battles with being apart from his brother. Unlike his brother, who would throw a dangerous tantrum if not in the same room as Yen, Yen would become sullen. Silently overthinking nearly everything he does since he was so used to Aiden sheltering him. At face value, aside from his depressed state, everything might seem like everything is fine, but Yen will bottle up his feelings to not seem inappropriate in front of others. While Yen has never had a burst of negative emotions with his brother's departure, one can assume that with enough time to marinate in his withdrawal, Yen is capable of the same destructive outburst as Aiden.
Now that Aiden has left Yen's side, his other half has been slowly degrading emotionally as he's incapable of handling his emotions this long without his brother. Especially since Yen has no idea where Aiden is, and none of his closest friends are helping with answers to where Aiden went. But this is where Shang Tsung comes in for the kill. Taking advantage of Yen's naivety of his origins, his growing unstable mental state, and presenting himself as a friend of his brother; Shang Tsung was able to gain Yen's trust easily as he intends to slowly entice Yen back to his island and his servitude. Doesn't help either that Yen does feel an unknown familiarity with Shang Tsung, which has calmed his nerves a bit; making him susceptible to Shang's charismatic falsities.

Village Additions
Small towns and rural villages are very common in Scotland and Ireland, and so naturally an update themed around celtic europe would include some updates to villages.
First, 7 new village types would be introduced in this update.
1. Marsh Villages, spawning in wetlands (a biome introduced in my pond update) with houses on stilts and made out of willow (a wood type exclusive to wetlands)
2. Jungle Villages, Spawning in a new “Jungle Clearing” biome, a jungle without any trees or leaves to allow pathing. Houses would be made of Packed Jungle Leaves, Bamboo and Jungle Wood
3. Wisteria Villages - spawn in the Wisteria Forrest, houses made of Wisteria wood and Colored chalk
4. Mesa villages, spawning in badlands, houses are made of coloured terracotta and red sandstone, resembling some of the Pueblo ruins in the southern US
5. Dark Oak Villages, Spawning in a new “Dark Oak Clearing” biome for the same reason as the Jungle Clearing. Houses would be made of dark oak and deepslate and take on a more dark fantasy appearance (the woodland mansion would also be changed to fit this block pallet)
6. Mushroom Villages, Spawning in the Mushroom Forest, houses would be made of mushroom bricks and resemble smurf houses
7. Highland Villages, spawning in the Highlands. These villages would be made out of white chalk and Birch, also having thatched roofs.
On top of this there would be other changes to villages, mainly:
1. The desert village would be updated to include Palm (a wood type from the pond update)
2.Pillager Outposts would take on the apprentice of the biome they are in
3. Pig Pens Would now include mud
4.There would be a new structure called a stable that could Spawn that houses Horses, Mules and Donkeys normally, but in the Savanna and Tundra would House Llamas and in the Desert and Badlands would house camels Abandoned villages would contain Zombie Horses, creating a way to get them in vanilla Minecraft
5. Chicken coops would also be added
6. Goat pens can now be found, mainly in Tundra villages
7.Shops are a new type of structure in villages, they have more high level loot but stealing from them angers the iron golem. Replacing the taken item with one of a similar value is allowed
8. Inns are a new structure that is full of beds, would help increase the village population, and stop players from breaking into someone's house for a bed
9.The Plaque would spawn on the village well, the Plaque is a copper sign that when written on will create an area around it that upon being walked into will display what is written on the Plaque on the top of the players screen.
This would allow players to name locations in game and welcome others to them (eg by default all village plaques will display the message “Welcome to the village” on them)
The player can take the Plaque form the village well or can craft their own via placing copper in a crafting table in the same configuration as a sign.
10. Villages now get upset and increase their prices if kept in cramped conditions, encouraging players to make there own villages instead of trading halls… this likely wouldt stop all trading halls as there are many ways to cheese cheaper trades and redstoners can always find new ways to cheese things, but it might encourage others to take things more slowly to avoid the hassle
In short, these small changes give villages more life and encourage more exploration, introduce new challenges with the shop mechanic and encourage creativity with the plaque and by encouraging players to build their own villages instead of making trading halls…
But that's not all:
Dogs!
That's right, Scotland and Ireland love dogs and now you can too!
There are a grand total of 20 different dog breeds to discover (note: the dog model is mainly the default wolf model, but certain aspects like size, hair shape/size, leg/body length and ear positioning will be changed to better fit different breeds)
Tumblr media
(Note: dogs do not have unique patterns in the same way that cats do, meaning a vote in a similar manner to the Cat vote is unlikely. I can see mojang doing a “what should the final dog breed be?” vote But I have no way of knowing what breed would win. Therefore I chose Grim due to his importance to classic Minecraft and the fact that anyone can enjoy a Skeleton dog, even if they don't know the reference)
Stray dogs Spawn in villages alongside cats and can be Tamed with bones or any meat item that isn't Rotten Flesh or Fish.
Dogs will sometimes chase cats and vice versa, though they never attack each other.
Speaking of cats, you may have noticed there's more Dog breeds than the Cats 11, not to worry, I added more:
Tumblr media
Now, what would Dogs do?... nothing. Cats don't do anything, why should Dogs get special treatment? They're just pets. Let Dogs be just Dogs.
Though, Cats do scare Creepers, so Dogs could scare away Zombies as Dogs are very territorial and protective and Zombies are the only kind of mob that will break down your door.
(Note: Lhasa and Pit Bull breeds will also chase wandering traders, as a reference to the classic “Pit Bull Vs Mailman” gag. Lhasas are included in this as from personal experience with mine Lhasas f*cking hate the postal service)
But wait, there's more!
New Villager Professions
That's right, Scotland has a lot of different Professions that are iconic the the country but that aren't represented in Minecraft, several items in Minecraft are also currently unnecessarily hard to create, so this would work to add a new way to obtain them:
The Beekeeper
The Beekeeper village is visually distinct by their full white clothes. Their House has a pen outside that contains a tree with a bee nest, as well as a bee hive being smoked out to show the player how to collect honey. The Beeker trades beehives, bee nests, honey bottles, honey come, honey bottles, bee eggs (a new placeable “block” like frogspawn that hatches into bees, can also be obtained via breeding bees), and Honey Blocks
The profession block for the Beekeeper is the BeeHive
The Carpenter
The Carpenter is visually distant due to their brown apron, tool belt and lack of headwear. Their House is made entirely out of wood (note: for the badlands, since it has no wood type, the house would be dark oak). The Carpenter trades all wood types
The profession block for The Carpenter is the Table Saw, a block that acts like a stone cutter, only for wood, creating a cheaper way to obtain fences, slabs and stairs
This also brings in new block varieties, mainly Bookshelves, Chiselled Shelves, Chests, Crafting Tables and Barrels of all wood types (note:those who have noticed I've called the Chiselled Bookshelf the “Chiselled Shelve” well done! That was intentional, now any non block item can be placed on the Chiselled Shelve, displaying a 2D rendition of said item, up to 3 non book items can be stored on any layer of the chiselled Shef, so 9 in total)
There would also be a new set of blocks called “Carved Wood” that could be traded from Carpenter or made via the use of the Copper Chisel, a new item made with one copper ingot and one iron Nugget stacked on top of each other.
For specific patterns:
Tumblr media
(Note: These patterns would not be exact and only inspiration would be taken, there just here to show the idea)
The Engineer
The Engineer is visually distinct with their soot covered clothing, copper arm and red goggles. The Engineers house has a copper water wheel on the back and a lighting rod on the top. The Engineer trades redstone components, some rudimentary redstone experiments can even be found within his home
The Profession block for the Engineer is The Crafter.
This would allow for a quick way to obtain redstone components for big projects
The Rancher
The Rancher can be identified by their cowboy-esque attire. The Rancher has no home, their profession block is located in a wooden Bard which contains different animals. Ranchers trade for all animal parts not already covered by the Butcher, Sherpard and Tanner. Mainly Feathers, Eggs, Saddles, Horse Armour, Milk, Butter, Cheese, (Some) Goat Horns, Glue, Rabbit Hide and Rabbit's Feet
The Rancher Profession block is the Butter Churner (more on this later)
The Pyrotechnic
The Pyrotechnic can be identified by their horribly stained multicolor apron. The Pyrotechnics House is notably charred, with Blackstone and basalt replacing some of the blocks. The Pyrotechnic trades for Fireworks and the ingredients to make them
The Pyrotechnics profession block is the Pyrotechnic Table, a block that simplifies how fireworks are made, simply insert a charge and the correct amount of coloured dye with a blank Rocket and you've got a Firework! (Note: diamonds would still be used to make the rocket last longer)
Also, while I'm on fireworks, fireworks charges would be changed to operate in the same way the Sherds, Trims and Disks work: as rewards form generated structures that constantly gain new additions
Firework charges can also be duplicated through the use of surrounding the charge with 7 gunpowder and 1 diamond
The Architect
Oh Boy.
The Architect can be identified via their hard hat. Their House is made entirely out of stone, like an inverse of the Carpenter.
The Artichet trades all variants of bricks, tiles, pillars, cut stone variants, polished stone variants and chiselled stone brick variants
The Architect's profession block is the chiseller
All stone blocks with a brick or polished/smooth variant would now get all of the aforementioned variants, with some names and textures being switched around. Peat would also get all of these variants
Mock ups of what these could look like right here (warning, bad quality)
Tumblr media
Certain blocks can also be altered in different ways:
● Squid Ink + Prismarine = Dark Prismarine
● Ground Nether Wart (from Mortar and Pestle) + Netherrack = Red Netherrack
● Moss + Stone = Mossy Stone
● Ground Chorus Fruit + Endstone = Purpur Endstone
● Deep Slate/Stone + Exposure to water/rain = cracked Deep Slate/Stone (can be prevented via Glue, takes as long as it takes Copper to oxidise) (this only applies to bricks and tiles)
(Note: there will not be coloured terracotta variants of any terracotta blocks, that's highly unnecessary…. Alright, MORE highly unnecessary)
This would help to simplify different stone block pallets as well as examining block pallets that are underrepresented
(Note: any stone blocks that don't have at least one variant in the base game are not eligible for this, eg Calcite)
Also, now concrete can be used in the stone cutter to make concrete stairs and slabs. Actually, F*ck it, Coloured Terracotta too
(Part 2/5)
Hivy, This is Ivy!
Throughout my time on Tumblr one of my favourite things to do has been to create hypothetical Minecraft updates, I've done this twice before with The Pigeon update and The Pond Update, but a few weeks ago I let you lot chose what geographic area I should turn into a hypothetical update
Yall chose Celtic Europe (and Oceania but that's for later) AKA, Ireland, Scotland, Whales and Cornwall. I was very glad with this outcome as I myself am Scottish and I had a lot of ideas for this…..too many ideas…. So many ideas that I had to cut an entire section and now some stuff feels barebones….whoops. (but hey now I can work on a full portion update later…yay.)
But, enough of that, let's move on to:
The Fae Update!
New Biomes + Structures
There are 6 new biomes in this hypothetical update, each referring a different local found in celtic europe these are: The White Cliffs,The Glacial Pass, The Wisteria Forrest The Heather Moorlands/Peat Bogs (take your pick), The Highland Forests, and… you'll see ;3
The White Cliffs
The White Cliffs are a new coastal biome, consisting of grass topped cliffs, sandy bays and rock structures jutting out of the water. Suspicious sand and gravel generates naturally here and loot from it follows the fishing loot table, though with an increased chance to find nautilus shells and a rare chance to find sniffer eggs
This biome is based on the White Cliffs of Dover and the Jurassic Coast
The White Cliffs has only three new features:
Puffins
A new passive abiant mob, they drop Feathers when killed. Instead of the normal birds nest (introduced in the pigeon update) puffins lay there eggs in “wall nests” grey nests that attach to walls, these can be used as a decorative block
Seagulls
A neutral mob who drops Feathers and fish when killed, they spawn both in the White Cliffs and on beaches and open Seas. Seagulls will attack the player if they are holding any food item in their hand, stealing it.
Seagulls serve no other purpose.
Chalk
Chalk is a new stone block. It has the blast resistance of wood and is exclusive to the white cliffs, making up the cliffs themselves.
Chalk can be dyed any of the dye colours in the game, creating a softer, more Pastel variant of that colour (queers rejoice). Chalk can be made into slabs, stairs and walls in the stone cutter.
The Glacial Pass
A cold mountainous biome, the Glacial past is mainly made of stone and deeplate, with ice and snow also being common. Dipstone spikes can be found here as well as gravel structures resembling Eskers and Terminal Moraines (yes my favourite subject is geography how can you tell?). Suspicious gravel can be found here as well as suspicious snow, which can also be found in the igloo. Strays, Polar Bears, Foxes and Rabbits Spawn in this environment
This biome is based on glaciated uplands
Seals
Seals can be found in all cold environments. Seals will follow the player when they swim, upon coming on to land Seals will bob in the afternoon expectantly.
Seals can be fed fish, clapping after this is done
Seals drop blubber when killed. Blubber can be crafted into blubber blocks, when lit on fire these blocks burn light yellow. Blubber can be used to make torches, lanterns and campfires.
Blubber can also be crafted into a chest plate, the blubber chest plate reduces projectile damage and prevents Frost damage in powdered snow, but it slows you down while on land
The Wisteria Forest
A replacement for the old flower Frocester, this is a rare forrest in which all natural flowers spawn
Purified water (a type of water introduced in the pond update that can cure harmful status effects and restore hunger permanently for a short time) would spawn here too, as well as unicorns and kelpies (introduced in the pond update, will be discussed later)
Other Mobs that Spawn here will be discussed later
Wisteria Trees
Wisteria trees are a new wood type. The wood itself is a pale green with a purplish grey bark. Wisteria leaves are pale lavender. Wisteria trees also have hanging leave variants, much like willow leaves (pond update) that grow in the same way as glow berries
Butterflies and Moths
Passive ambient mobs that spawn in all biomes, though moths are most common in dark oak forests and butterflies are most common here. Both come in many colours, much like tropical fish. These mobs are as large as the bees (traditional dictates that all Minecraft arthropods must be massive, also yes bane of arthropods works on these, but do you actually care?)
Butterflies and Moths drop their respective wings when killed, these can be grafted onto the elytra (using the dragonfly carapace, an mob drop from the dragon fly as introduced in the pond update, speaking of that, the Toad from that update will also eat Moths and Butterflies) grafting these wings on changes the electable texture to resemble the wings of these Mobs (Note: despite both having many textures the electric will always adopt The Lunar Moth and Monarch Butterfly texture respectively)
Crann Bethadh Sprout
The sprout of a legendary tree, this is a two tall plant with ever changing leaf colours, shifting throughout all the pastel colour variants
The player can take a cutting of this plant using shears
This plant can only be dug up by the sniffer
Flower Crowns
By combining any 4 flowers in a circular pattern in the crafting table players can make flower crowns. Flower crowns adopt the colours of whatever flowers were used to craft it. Flower crowns can be worn on the head and serve no purpose other than to make people look pretty ;3
Wisteria Grass
Wisteria grass is a new grass type block that is pale lavender. It behaves the same as grass. It is only found in the Wisteria forest
The Heather Moorlands
Heather Moorlands are made up of water, grass, mud and a new block. No trees and few other plants spawn here, but cattails, reeds (pond update), sea grass and lily pads would be common here.
Bogs would spawn here
Toads, Frogs and Dragonflies would spawn here
Heather Moorlands are based on….Heather Moorlands.
Peat
Peat is a new powered snow-like block. It is brown in colour and makes up most of the ground in the Heather moorlands. Any plant can be planted on it.
Falling through peat takes notably longer than it does for powdered snow, players cannot freeze in peat, only suffocate. Peat can be safely traversed with leather boots.
When broken, peat will break into Peat Logs, peat logs can be burned in the furnace as an effective fuel
When lit on fire, Peat burns Bright Red, peat logs can be used to make peat lanterns, campfires and torches.
Combining 4 peat logs together makes a peat block, smelting a peat block creates Hardened Peat. Harmed peat can be made into Smooth Peat, Chiselled Peat, Peat Bricks, Cut Peat, Peat Pillar and Peat Tiles
Gortach
The Gortach are a new Undead mob. They spawn in swamps and peat bogs and resemble Bog bodies. They hide in dirt, mud, sand, gravel and peat and jump out of the ground to attack.
Gortach inflicts poison with their attacks. Gortach can carry swords, axes, and spears
Gortach drop their weapon, peat logs or Rotten flesh when killed
Spears
Spears are crafted either with one iron ingot and two sticks in a diagonal pattern, or are dropped by the Gortach
Spears are weaker than the sword but have a better reach, can be thrown (though this isn't good for their durability) and completely bypass shields and armour, hitting the opponent as if they had nothing at all
Spears have all the same enchantments as the Sword + Loyalty
Heather
Heather is a new purple flower exclusive to the Heather Moorlands. It gives purple dye when ground up.
The Highland Forest
Made up of rolling hills and Birch trees, all normal passive Mobs can spawn here, but sheep, goats, bees and cows are most common. All normal hostile Mobs can spawn here
Loch Lurkers (a rare UnderWater horse-like mob from the pond update) also spawn in the lakes here
Birch Updates
Yep. This is a secret Birch forest update.
A new form of Birch tree “Silver Birch” that grows much taller and has yellow leaves can be found here. This form gets its own sapling
The Birch block would also get a minor update to make the black segments more like stripes and not ugly blobs
Leave Updates, Packed Leaves and Thatching
Players and Mobs can now walk and fall through leaves.
When breaking leaves with anything other than shears or silk touch leaf blocks will drop leaf items (except wisteria and Spruce, which drop Petals and Needles)
By placing 9 of these in the crafting bench the player can create packed leaves, a new solid version of the leaf block
Thatching is a new block of greyish colour that is crafted with 6 wheat on the top and bottom and 3 leaves of any type in the centre of the crafting bench. Thatching looks the same as a Hale Bale, only without the string holding it together.
Goosegrass, Nettles, and Thistle
Goosegrass is a plant that grows in any forest, but is most common in the Highlands. Walking through goosegrass results in it sticking to you, taking up one of your unoccupied armour slots and slowing you down. Walking through it at all also slows you down, much like cobwebs, making this plant dangerous when fighting mobs
Nettles can only spawn in Dark oak and Highland forests. Nettles stay low to the ground, if they are walked on by a player they are inflicted with Poison. Nettles can be collected and made into a healthy soup
Thistles are a new type of two high flowers. They can be ground into purple dye. They hurt the player if walker through
Deer
Deer are a new mob found in all forested environments, much like Wolf's they have different textures depending on the biome
When killed, Deers drop Venison, a new edible meat
Like Goats, Deers will try to charge the player. Also like Goats, after hitting a block deer will drop and antler
Fog
Fog is a new weather type, lowering the amount the player can see for a short time and allowing a few Mobs to spawn, particularly endermen
Shelf Fungus
A new decorative block that grows on trees
Wildcats
Wildcats are a new ambient Mob, they share a model with Ocelots and Cats and they drop string when killed
The Mushroom Grotto
Oh yes. A new forest of giant mushrooms and mycelium. This biome is very rare. The Mobs that Spawn here will be discussed later
Mushroom Wood
Much like the nether mushrooms, overworld mushrooms are now a woodtype. The mushroom stem can be stripped and converted into all wood blocks. Mushroom wood is white in colour.
New Mushrooms
Yep. There is now a mushroom for every colour of dye in the game. Mushrooms can also now be ground into dye
Here's what all those mushrooms could look like (minus brown and red of course):
Tumblr media
(Note: this is based on design, not colour)
Before moving on, sniffers don't just get the Crann Bethadh Sprout. They get a new plant for every dye type in the game
Plus, they can dig up two new mushrooms exclusive to them, when ground these mushrooms become two new dye types… Well, not quite. They Become Rose Dye and Spring Green Dye, the two removed wool colours. This is the only way to get these mushrooms and these dyes. This would make the sniffer more worth the work put in to get one and create a lot of more strange decoration choices
Here's what they COULD look like (note: again, colours don't line up)
Tumblr media
Mushroom bricks
Smelting the Mushroom blocks (not the stem, the block itself) creates mushroom bricks: multicoloured bricks taking on the patterning of the mushroom used to make them
Mushroom bricks can be made into stairs, slabs and walls
Puffball Mushrooms and Faerie Rings
Both exclusive to the mushroom forest.
Puffball mushrooms are brown in colour and are plants that stay on the ground, when walked over they release spores that inflict harmful status effects such as Poison, blindness, slowness, weakness, nausea, lethitatvia, and mining fatigue
Faerie Rings are Rings of mushrooms that take up one block on the ground (they also come in all colours)
If a player steps on one it is like they are walking through cobwebs, and upon getting out they will be inflicted with slowness.
If a mob steps in one they completely freeze and their AI is disabled until they are knocked out or the ring is broken.
This would help allow players to use Mobs as decoration without lagging there game
New Structures
Bothies
A bothy is a public structure found typically in the Highlands, there small houses for folks to take shelter in.
Bothines can spawn in any woodland biomes, they'll appear as a simple wooden house. Inside Bothies will have a chest with low level loot and a bed.
Occasionally, suspicious sand, mud, gravel or snow will spawn outside the bothy (depending on the biome), these typically have low level loot but items such as armour Trims or record disks can be dug up
Stone Works
Based on the numerous palaeolithic celtic stoneworks, these are small abiant structures spawning in the Dark Oak, Highland and Wisteria forests, as well as Heather Moorlands, Snowy Tundras, Wetlands and Mushroom Grottos
There would be many variants of these structures resembling stone circles, stone henges, standing stones, stone portals and cobbled walls.
All of these are made from base stone blocks, though sometimes other blocks can be found like chalk flooring or trees/water spawning in the centre of a stone circle
Sometimes, though rarely, these structures could spawn with a “Stone Holder” a new block that holds a tool or weapon (similar to the myth of the sword and the stone) these can be moved with silk touch. The player can remove the weapon, which will always be made of iron (that's important for later) and could have some low-level enchamtmants
Occasionally, these can also structures spawn with suspicious dirt, which can be dug up with the brush. Pottery sherds are more common in these structures, but apart from that, they exist only as set dressing ;)
Castle Ruins
A more substantial ruin, Castle Ruins can spawn basically anywhere, but are most common in Highland forests.
Castle Ruins are winding structures, they have a Dungeon below with Gortach or Bog spawners in the cells. The main ruin itself is made up of narrow passageways, imagine a smaller version of the bastion.
There would be numerous loot chests around, but upon opening one, a new mob would be summoned called a ■■■■■■
This mob will be discussed later :)
The Beast's Lair
An underground structure most common under the mountains or Highland forests
Made up of narrow passages leading to open rooms filled with gold blocks, loot chests containing riches and even some new vaults. There's also a shocking amount of skulls littered around
And of course the new boss here: The Wyvern
The Wyvern is a draconic boss mob spawning only hear, it has 4 legs and two wings and is bright red (Note: no. Wyvern never meant a dragon with only 4 limbs. That is a modern addition. Wyvern and dragons were different because of what they breathed)
The Wyvern is very powerful up close and can attack from far away with its poisonous breath
Upon its defeat the Wyvern will drop copious amounts of gold and emeralds that it ate, perhaps even some diamonds if your lucky
Faerie Mounds
Spawning exclusively in the Wisteria Forests, Highland Forests and Mushroom Grottos, these are small dirt hills with a spawner inside and a handful of loot chests
They are essentially fae Dungeons
The mobs that Spawn here will be: you guessed it, discussed later
Clochan + The Dubnos Tunnels
Clochans are typically just an abiant structures common in the Highlands, small cobblestone huts with nothing interesting about them.
But occasionally, they lead to something greater. Some of them spawn with holes leading to a second structure made up of 5 rooms, oriented in this pattern:
Tumblr media
In the centre room are 5 stones, each baring a carving of one of the 5 element symbols (note: these are taken from the unused painting textures, with a new one added for wood), at the base of all these stones is a new kind of Vault “The Fae Vault” exclusive to this structure and the beast's lair
The carvings look like this:
Tumblr media
The goal of this structure would be to go to each of the challenge rooms, each of with have there own stone with a carving, right click on said carving to indicate you have completed the room, and once all 4 rooms are complete return to the centre room to click on the craving that was not represented by one of the carvings in the other rooms. Getting this right results in the appearance of 5 Fae keys from the stones. These keys can be used on the fey vaults to claim the structures loot
Failure to complete the structure will be indicated by the carvings glowing Red and numerous waves of Mobs spawning
The challenge rooms each contain a challenge pertaining to their element: the fire room is filled with fire, the water room is flooded, the air room requires parkour, the earth room is a Maze and the plant room is filled with Sweet Berries, Goosegrass, Nettles, Thistles, Puffball mushrooms and Faerie Rings (yes I know mushrooms aren't plants, shush.)
On top of that, there are several spawners for the fae in this structure, with various types appearing to attack you. Though these spanners will be deactivated upon completing a room
(Note: carved stones can be moved with silk touch)
They fae Mobs that Spawn in these will be discussed later.
These structures would create unique challenges for the player and would bring more life to these biomes, encouraging exploration.

🔥 Your body, especially your hands or core, feels very warm. You're like a human heater
🔥 You were particularly energetic as a kid, or even now. You're spunky
🔥 You're very brave, especially with standing up to people
🔥 You prefer cooler temperatures because it doesn’t bother you as much
🔥 You constantly feel hungry, or have an active digestive system and a fast metabolism. You may get acidity or heartburn a lot
🔥 You prefer hot drinks and food over cold ones
🔥 You feel thirst more often than most
🔥 You are energetic, passionate, dramatic and prone to irritability or being emotionally volatile
🔥 You are very eloquent and expressive, and often may talk too much or too quickly
🔥 You’ve been praised for your leadership ability
🔥 You are very very curious, and may be easily distracted
🔥 You suffer from: anxiety, insomnia, circulatory issues like anemia and palpitations, dizziness or light-headedness, inflammation, skin rashes, aches and pains, loneliness or are easily overwhelmed
Tumblr media
Ways to bond with Fire
🔥 Teach yourself not to fear it, or at least not too much. If you’re anything like me, fire kinda scares you, despite your connection to it. Light a candle and meditate, and teach yourself that fire is a part of you, so you shouldn’t fear it without reason.
🔥 If you’re an artist, try using charcoal pencils more often
🔥 Meditate with candles
🔥 Drink warm soup or tea (don’t burn your mouth though)
🔥 Release your passion and/or anger. I recommend getting a punching bag for when you’re feeling particularly riled up
🔥 Working out, or any other activities that make you sweat
🔥 Burn Bay Leaves with wishes on them to make them come true
🔥 Get a Himalayan Salt Lamp. Don’t use it if you have pets though, as it might harm them
🔥 Use a Heating Pad when you’re in pain
🔥 Take time to notice your body heat more often. Appreciate how warm your skin and breath feels
🔥 Pursue your passions, whatever those might be. If it makes you passionate, go for it. Fire is the element of not holding back
🔥 Channel your passion and especially your anger into productivity rather than pain
🔥 Drink tea with warm spices
🔥 Eat spicy food if you can handle it
🔥 Be brave in all things
🔥 Use more Dragon imagery in your life

A Very Tragic, Romantical Secret (Understanding of a Pre-) Engagement
Summary: Post 3x08 AU where Gilbert avoids Anne for the summer and attends Queens College in the fall.
Gilbert tucked his chin against a brisk September breeze and hurried along Theological Hall’s carefully manicured lawn. Young men and women were grouped across the grass, buzzing with excitement. He wound his way between them, searching for his friends.
Turrets stretched from the sprawling brick building up to a bluebird sky, and a bell tower stood tall and proud above the ornate front doors. Theological Hall was the center of Queens College, the fine institution at which Gilbert had been a pupil for the past fortnight.
The campus was lush and vibrant, its refined landscape made crisp and colorful with autumn’s changing leaves. Gilbert’s eye was drawn by an especially spectacular maple tree. Caught in the glow of late afternoon sunlight, its orange and red leaves burned like a bonfire.
“Watch it, coming through.”
Gil twisted around and jumped back. The crowd behind him parted as two upperclassmen lurched past, lugging a bronze statue between them. It was a likeness of the lady Justice, about three feet tall from head to plinth, with her book in one hand and her scales in the other.
“‘Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence,’” were the words engraved at her feet.
“What’s that?” a girl beside him asked her companion, watching the young men stagger forward.
“It’s the Lady of Learning,” someone called, their voice rising above the crowd’s inquisitive murmurs. “The first place team of this year’s Fall Freshmen Scavenger Hunt will take it home for the year!”
Gilbert grinned and pushed his way onward. He had a feeling that such a prize would be greatly coveted, and he was determined to be of assistance in its conquest.
He found Moody, Josie, Ruby, Charlie and the others on the wide stone steps leading up to the hall, basking in the sunshine. Moody jumped up at his approach and pompously shook his hand. Gilbert greeted the others with warmth. He’d started classes late, having been delayed by his apprenticeship at Kingston Hospital, and hadn’t seen much of anyone since he’d left Avonlea for the summer.
He’d barely time to wonder where Anne was, when he heard her dulcet tones calling up the stairs behind him. He turned.
She took the steps two at a time, not looking up from the sheaf of papers in her hands. Her frilly white dress was tied with a blue ribbon around her waist, childlike and delicate despite her long skirts. One hand held her hat to her head against the wind, decorated with flowers as always, little white sprigs of baby’s breath between soft blue petals. Her other hand clutched the stack of papers and a fistful of skirt, wrinkling both in her haste to reach them.
“I’ve read the first clue!” she called, breathless. “It’s obvious— That trophy will be ours!”
She paused at the first landing, looking up when she reached Ruby’s feet.
“Oh!” She stopped short at the sight of him.
The wind stained her cheeks pink. Gilbert tried not to stare. She looked different— Her hair was up, he realized belatedly. He wasn’t used to seeing her without her twin braids, but of course they were at college now. They weren’t children anymore.
“‘Lo, Anne.” He nodded. She peeked up at him cautiously, golden lashes fluttering at the low sunlight. Gilbert warmed at the sight of her, his face creasing in a smile before he could wrestle it down. Her cheeks glowed in response.
“Are you playing for team Avonlea?” she asked. Two copper curls hung loose from her elegant coif and brushed against the bare slope of her shoulder. Gilbert’s pulse thrummed in his ear.
“Of course.” He jammed his hands in his pockets and slouched. He suddenly felt very awkward.
“Thank the Celtic goddess Rhiannon!” She jumped the last few stairs between them. “I don’t know if you’ve seen, Gilbert, but the winning prize is a glorious bronze likeness of lady Justice with the most dignified quote beneath— Well, I don’t suppose that would matter much to you, but it would sit ever-so-charmingly in the corner of my rose garden… anyway, I’m sure you, Gilbert Blythe, would never back down from the pursuit of a competition well won?”
“Certainly not.” He straightened, just holding back his smirk. “And I’m always determined to do Avonlea proud.”
Her eyes grew wide and misty. “How wonderful.” Gilbert watched with consternation as she swayed on her feet. He reached to steady her on instinct, but she caught herself, snapping quickly upright. The apples of her cheeks were bright and pink. “Here, uh,” she waved a piece of paper in his face, “here are the rules.”
He plucked the page from her grasp, and she turned away, distributing the rest to their teammates.
“Each team has a set of clues to follow which will take us around campus,” she explained. “That’s the point— to help us become familiar with Queens’ buildings and grounds. To win, we must collect each clue in order, and be the first to find our way back to the Lady of Learning.”
“‘Seal with wax thine anecdote; then stop here to post thy note,’” Ruby read aloud. She looked to Moody, confused.
“Perhaps the community bulletin board?” he suggested.
“No, no, no!” Anne exclaimed. She bent her head over the clue scrawled in elaborately curled writing at the bottom. Another tendril at the back of her elegant, grown-up twist escaped and tickled the delicate knob between her shoulder blades. Gilbert stared. His mouth was dry.
“It’s the post office, of course!” She twisted around, and Gilbert found himself nose-to-nose with her wild-eyed excitement. She gazed at him, brows raised. He started when it dawned on him she waited for his reaction.
“You must be right,” he agreed, a bit tongue-tied, then tried to elaborate. “You always are.” His stomach dropped when she bristled and huffed, but then she studied him, thoughtful. He felt his cheeks burn in spite of himself, and he lowered his gaze, neck hot inside his scratchy wool scarf.
Keep it together, Blythe, he scolded himself.

Got Tarnished Jewelry?
I was horrified the other day when I looked in my jewelry box and saw how black my silver jewelry was. Now mind you, my jewelry box is a wooden box I got as a gift in the 70's from a friend in high school.  So I decided to search the web to see what I could do to care for my 'jewelry neglect'.
Tumblr media
Like anything else in life you care about, you've gotta take care of your jewelry. But nobody wants to be forced to scrub their silver before putting on their jewels. I'm sure like me, you want cleaning your jewelry to be easy and avoid damage.
The liquid tarnish removers I've tried in the past haven't worked very well. I'm always worried about the chemicals in that stuff damaging the gems and beads in my jewelry. So in my many travels on YouTube, I came across Pro Polish Pads which don't cost an arm and a leg, are simple to use and which work really well. Pro Polish Pads are made of foam that has micro abrasive materials embedded in the pad itself. The pad has extremely fine abrasives that are smooth to the touch, but which remove tarnish without damaging your jewelry. The pads aren't gooey and nothing comes off on your hands.
Tumblr media
After you've cleaned up your jewelry, you might want to invest in one of the many anti-tarnish jewelry care options out there. Did you know there are anti-tarnish jewelry sprays-who knew? There are plastic and felt bags out there that supposedly keep your jewelry from tarnishing. But for long-term storage, it's time to get one of the anti-tarnish jewelry boxes that are available at a variety of prices.
I've posted pictures of some of my 'casualties of neglect'. Most of the pieces are made from fine silver. The blue and red earrings are Native American jewelry I purchased in Sante Fe, New Mexico. You can definitely see the difference between the pieces before and after using the Pro Polish Pad. The Celtic style earrings are made from some inexpensive nickel silver but even they cleaned up well with the Pro Polish pads.
Tumblr media
After doing some research on this topic I learned that most jewelry either dulls or outright tarnishes over time due to oxidation, dirt and oils and sweat from our skin. Most of us are buying fashion jewelry which tends to be made from less expensive metals like nickel silver, sterling silver, copper and brass. Gold and Platinum jewelry can be quite expensive. Just the setting alone for a Platinum ring can cost as much as $500 or more.
Regardless of the price point, you want to take care of the jewelry pieces you love. Gold and Platinum may need occasional cleaning but they don't tarnish. Anodized metals have come on the market which don't tarnish. Anodized wire or rings used for jewelry is made by using electricity to treat the surface of the metal to prevent tarnishing. Anodized also metal comes in a bunch of really cool colors and is being used a lot in chainmail jewelry.
There are a lot more options for cleaning your jewelry than in the past that don't take a bunch of time. Thank goodness for that! Use one of these quick, easy methods to show off your beads and bubbles at their very best.

Dr. Mordenheim’s Travels, Book 1:  De Writer’s Equestria, Ch. 1
Dr. Victor Mordenheim has traveled to many different realities in his many centuries of existence.  This series, which I shall add to from time to time, will explore some of them, beginning with the world of @ask-de-writer.
=============================================================
The tall, slender zebra staggered his way through the tangled undergrowth of the Everfree forest.  Dead branches tangled in his mane, tugging his head back and even clawing at his eyepatch as he trudged onward, pausing occasionally to make sure he still had his saddlebags.  He had been wandering for what seemed like days as the paths constantly shifted and changed direction as he traveled.  Once in a while he would follow a seemingly straight path and end up passing the same tree several times. Other times he would take a sharply curving route that seemed to circle back on itself, only to end up in an entirely different location.
It was still mostly dark when he finally pulled himself free from the brambles and stumbled into a small clearing.  The broken and crumbling remains of an old castle stood before him, however this particular castle was somewhat odd.  From the rubble he could see that various different types and colors of stone were used to construct its walls and towers.  Each tower also seemed to once have a different type of roof.  A rounded spire on one, a flat top where he spied the rotting remains of an open wooden trap door.  Prodding at the walls with a hoof, the remaining stone seemed solid and sturdy.  Perhaps this would be a place he could fix up to stay for a while.
Around the front there was a short path that lead to a small building.  It had perhaps been a guard house or a small barracks at one time.  A few old, broken benches sat inside as well as various shelves and racks along the walls, all covered in dust and cobwebs.  However, through the front he saw the most welcoming sight of all.  No more than ten feet from the front door was an actual cobblestone road and the faint pink light of the rising sun on the horizon.  He had finally found his way out of this forsaken forest.
He had followed the road to the east for a short way before he stopped, confused.  He could see the outskirts of Ponyville up ahead, yet that town had ever only had a simple dirt road between it and the Everfree.  When had they built such a fine road, he wondered to himself.  As well as pondering just how long he actually had been lost in the wood.  He was well aware that time passed strangely in the Everfree, and space itself seemed warped and broken.
Making sure his saddlebags were still secure and doing his best to get the worst of the burrs out of his fur he trotted into Ponyville proper.  As he looked around he could see that quite a few things had changed while he had been lost.  The buildings seemed different, more colorful and sturdier in build.  The roads were solid and well-maintained and the trees and grasses trimmed and cared for.  All of this, however, was quickly wiped from his mind as the scent of delicious cooking wafted past his nose, causing his empty stomach to clench painfully and give a low growl.
Trotting along the street, following his nose he soon came upon a smallish building with a sign out front sitting across from a well maintained park.  “Caramel Treat’s Sweets” was a lovely little restaurant and certainly the source of the delicious aromas.  He paused outside of the door for a moment.  It was not yet full dawn and most eateries that he knew of only operated from dawn to dusk, or from lunch hour until late.
He was starting to draw a few stares from early risers as he waited until full dawn.  He rolled his eye as several ponies opened their door to set about their of business, laid their eyes on him, and immediately slammed their doors, peeking through window shades.  He rubbed at his eyepatch as he sighed, he was well used to this reaction by now.  He only hoped that his patronage would be accepted at this little restaurant or who knows how long he would have to wait to eat.  He might even have to brave the pink whirlwind that inhabits Sugarcube Corner.  He shuddered at the thought.
He need not have worried, though.  Just a few moments later the door opened wide and a young caramel colored mare with a blonde mane stepped into view.  She started to speak but quickly changed her tune a bit when she spied a zebra the size of a Rom horse on her doorstep!  “What a beautiful..  Oh!  I’m sorry, I didn’t know we had a customer already!”
Victor was pleasantly stunned by the warm response!  He smiled, careful not to show his sharp teeth as he lowered himself into a graceful bow, “Good mornin’ to ye.  I was just wondering if you were open yet for the day.  I’ve been traveling a long distance and would like to rest my weary bones for a bit and purchase a meal.”
Caramel’s ear twitched a bit.  The zebra’s voice was deep and rich, but that certainly was not a Zebrican accent.  She smiled and nodded, trotting back into the restaurant, “Of course, of course, please, come right in!”
The huge zebra smiled and entered the restaurant, ducking his head as he entered more out of habit than anything.  The inside was well-lit and high-ceilinged with several tables, chairs, a small bar, even pillows to sit on here and there.  He trotted over to the bar so he would be a bit away from the windows and pulled over a soft pillow to rest upon.  His old joints creaked as he lowered himself, grateful that he finally got a chance to relax.
Caramel trotted over with a glass of ice water and a menu.  Setting the glass down, she placed the menu in his hooves.  She sniffed at the air, seeming to be sniffing at her own cooking when an odd look crossed her face.  She blinked once, then smiled knowingly at her huge guest, “Just let me know when you’re ready to order.  I should be able to hear you just fine.”  She leaned in with a soft whisper and mentioned, “If you need any items towards the back of the menu, just let me know, I’ll need to move you in case of other guests, but we will gladly help you here.”
Victor was a bit taken aback by the strange look, but the gentle smile afterwards seemed to reassure him.  He blinked a bit, curious about what she meant by items towards the back, but he decided he would check the entire thing anyway.  He had just about decided on a dish called clovertop scramble with vegetable fries and something called Rom black tea when he flipped to the back of the menu.  His eyebrows raised as he saw the page filled with meat options.  Fried or baked fish, roasted chicken, even bacon!  He had to lift a napkin to his mouth to hide, and soak up the drool.  Shaking his head, he looked up from the menu, wondering how she could have known.
Making up his mind, he decided it might be best to take it easy on his system after having not eaten for so long.  He called out to her and placed his order.  A clovertop scramble, a bit of dry toast instead of the fried vegetables, and a cup of Rom black tea sounded perfect.  In mere minutes, she had brought out the delicious-smelling food and placed it before him.  He thanked her and slowly tucked into his meal.
Every bite was wonderful.  A slight bit of black pepper and a tang of salt gave the scramble an incredible flavor, every fluffy bite seeming to melt in his mouth.  The toast, in spite of being dry as he requested, was crisp and flavorful, a perfect pairing to the scramble.  The tea was unlike anything he had tasted before.  Spicy and floral with a soft bit of warmth underlying everything.  In spite of trying to take his time, it was mere moments before he was using the last corner of toast to wipe his plate clean.
He smiled contentedly, remarking how wonderful everything was as Caramel Treat trotted back over to the bar.  He paid his fee and tipped a single golden bit.  Caramel looked at the coins a little oddly as she hadn’t seen any quite like these before.  They were real, the right weight and metals, but the imprints were odd to her.  The copper coin had an image of a phoenix in repose, the silver a long, slender dragon or sea serpent curling around the edge, while the golden coin was the most interesting.  Both front and back bore an intricate Celtic knot design around the edge.  The front bore an image of two hooves grasping a heart topped by a crown while the rear bore the motto “Friendship, Loyalty, Love” struck into the soft metal.
He tilted his head to the side as he watched her studying the coins, “Is something wrong?  Did I need to do some sort of money exchange before paying?”
Caramel shook her head, “No, there’s no problem.  I’ve just never seen coins like this before.”
Victor nodded, “Ah, that explains it.  They’re from my home country, Shireland.  I’ve picked up other coins in my travels, but the majority of them are still from home.  I have a question for you, though.”
She nodded as she got her explanation for the odd coins, but then it was her turn to be curious about his questions.  He leaned in close, still smiling but this time feeling comfortable enough to let his oddly sharp, interlocking teeth show a bit as he whispered, “How could you tell I might be interested in the items in the back of your menu?”
She grinned in return, pointing a hoof up to a sign above the bar, central in the restaurant for every creature to see.  On it were depicted the images of two large wolves with the text “If you have any problem with any customer of ours for any reason, be it race, kind, species, belief or any other reason at all, PLEASE LEAVE.  We bite, HARD!”.  She winked and said, “I think that’s a pretty good likeness of myself and Fangrin.”
Victor’s jaw almost hit the bar!  To find not just one, but two creatures similar to himself was amazing!  He smiled even more pleasantly and reached out to gently take her hoof, bowing his head once more.  “Thank you so much for your hospitality.  I will be sure to stop back very often, indeed.  In the meantime, however.  It’s been a very long time since I’ve visited ponyville and it seems a lot has changed over the years.  Do you know of anyplace nearby where I might be able to get cleaned up and make myself a bit more presentable?”
Caramel smiled and nodded, shaking his hoof in return.  “Sure, the Ponyville Day Spa is right down the road in the town square!  Just tell Lotus Blossom and Aloe Vera that Caramel sent you and they’ll fix you right up and even give you a nice discount!”
Smiling brightly, he thanked the mare once more for her wonderful meal and her company before trotting out of the door.  His spirits lifted, he held his head up high as he made his way towards the town square!  Perhaps Ponyville had changed for the better after all!

Building a Lughnassadh/Lammas Altar
Tumblr media
Lughnassadh tide is upon us, and it’s almost time to start celebrating the grain harvest represented by the Celtic god Lugh. In the agricultural world, the grains that sustain us are coming ripe. This is a time to celebrate corn, wheat, barley, and anything else that is coming ripe in your area. I also like to celebrate summer fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, avocados, green beans, squash, blackberries, watermelon, and stone fruits. This is a holiday all about enjoying the abundance of the beginning of the harvest, and our hard work paying off. In the non-agricultural world, we’re noticing that everything is taking on a particular sun-baked appearance as the verdant greens of Spring and early Summer give way to golden grasses, darker green in the forest canopy, and the golden sun glaring overhead. Depending on your attitude towards Summer, you’re either looking forward to the cooler weather in a few months, or you’re happy there are lots of warm, lazy weeks ahead of us. As for me, I’m just resigned to the heat and looking forward to Mabon, which usually signals a slight break in the weather here in Georgia. To mark this holiday, let’s look at some altar ideas!
Tumblr media
Lughnassadh Altar 1 Colors (for altar cloths, flowers, candles, and decorations) You can use anything you want here, of course, as long as it resonates for you. But some traditional colors for Lughnassadh are gold yellow, and wheat colors (to represent the grain we’re harvesting and the sun-baked grasses), browns (represent the soil), oranges and reds (to represent the sun, and also the fact that this is one of the Celtic fire festivals), and green (there are still green and growing things all around us). Highlights of metallic golds, coppers, and bronze add nice detail.
Tumblr media
Lughnassadh Altar 2 Scents I like stone fruit scents, like peach and cherry for this time of year. Blackberry would also work if you want something fruity. Tobacco scents are also nice, or anything that represents harvest to you. You can carry over any general harvesty-scented candles to your Mabon altar if you wish. As for incense, I really like nag champa for any time of year, but I find that patchouli (earth) and dragon’s blood (fire) feel really good for this time of year. I’ve thrown malted barley from a brew store into incense blends for Lughnassadh, and found that it provides a wonderfully rich sweetness and heaviness to a harvest blend. Also, any herbs that you have in your garden right now are 100% appropriate to celebrate the season!
Tumblr media
Lughnassadh Altar 3 Symbols Anything that represents grain is appropriate. So small sheaves of wheat, ears of ornamental maize (what we used to call ‘indian corn’), or bowls of barley, oats, or other grains will work. I also like to bake cornbread and leave that as a traditional offering. Statues and offering bowls made by hand from clay. This is my own connection, but I feel like the baking of the clay is a good metaphor for how baked and dry and parched we feel this time of year. I like the alchemy of it, and clay just has a really good look with the other symbols of this time of year. The corn dolly. This was traditionally made with the last stalks of grain to be harvested from a field. The spirit of the grain was coaxed into those last stalks, then they were ceremonially cut and braided into a beautiful shape so that the grain spirit had a home to stay for the Winter. It’s brought back out at Imbolc, where it’s dressed as a bride, ceremonially wedded to the land, and placed back into the field when seeds are planted to carry the magick from last year’s harvest forwards. Honestly, I’ve tried to make a corn dolly, but to no avail. So I’ll probably just buy one from Etsy this year. The sun is usually honored at Litha, but its influence is still strong right now. So a smaller, more subdued image of the sun would work, or maybe a nice sunflower or 3. Any fruits that are ripe right now. Traditionally apples and grapes are reserved for Mabon celebrations, but I have ripe apples that I’ll be using. I’ll also be tracking down some blackberries, as they’re usually represented at this time of year. Representations of any animals that I’m seeing a lot of around this time. And probably some turkey feathers, because they just look cool.
Tumblr media
Lughnassadh Altar 4 So that’s mostly it for me! I still haven’t added a lot of the things that I intend to have on here, partially because I still need to unpack some boxes. But I’ll be adding things as I find them, so this is not a definitive list by far. Are there any symbols or objects that I missed? Let me know in the comments, and blessed be! https://youtu.be/5BMGTyM410M Read the full article

Cymric cat: Height, Weight, Lifespan, Personality, Care Full Information
The Cymric Cat is a breed of domestic cat. Some cat registries consider the Psymic merely a semi-longhair variety of the Manx breed rather than a separate breed. Except for fur length, the two breeds are identical in all other respects, and kittens of either type can appear from the same litter.
The name derives from Cymru, an indigenous Welsh name for Wales, although the breed is not associated with Wales, and was probably given as an attempt to provide a “Celtic”-sounding name for the breed. The Manx bloodline of the breed originated in the Isle of Man, although Canada claims to have developed the long-haired type. The breed is called Longhair Manx or a similar name by some registries.
ORIGIN: Isle of Man
HEIGHT: 11″-14″
WEIGHT: Up to 12 pounds
LIFESPAN: Up to 15 years
EYE COLOR: Amber, Copper, Green, Gold, Hazel, Orange, Yellow
Breed Characteristics
The friendly, lovable Cymric is a long-haired variety of the tailless Manx cat. Apart from coat length, the two species are identical, with solid bodies, round heads, widely spaced ears, and large, round eyes. The thick coat comes in many colors and patterns, including tabby, tortoiseshell, and calico.
Tailless simian is the result of an autosomal recessive genetic mutation, a common occurrence in cats. In addition to its lack of a tail, the Cymric, which takes its name from the Gaelic word for Wales, is known for its rounded appearance:
Its head is round, its eyes are round, and its rear end is also round. Don’t think the Cymric is completely tailless, either; Some are—they’re called rumpy—but others have up to three spines fused at the spine ends; Some have up to five million stumps that they can wiggle around; And some, known as long, have a tail longer than a stump but shorter than a typical cat’s tail.
The Cymric weighs seven to 13 pounds and has a silky, medium-length double coat in many colors and patterns.
Cymric is gentle and playful. It is not uncommon for him to love fetching or carrying toys around. He is also smart and dexterous, able to use his paws to get into cabinets or open doors.
Fond of human company, it will communicate in a sweet trilling voice. Some Simrics give all their love to a single person while others are affectionate towards the entire family, including children.
He may lack a tail, but Simric has a powerful rear end and is an excellent jumper even without a natural counterweight to help his balance. When you see it accelerating from home and taking sharp turns and quick stops, you’ll think it’s a cat-shaped mini sports car.

Cymric cat History
The Cymric is a long-haired Manx. The Manx is one of the oldest known breeds of cats. Many amazing legends surround the origin of this breed.
Most interesting, but at least genetically accurate, is that Manx was asleep when Noah called all the animals into the ark. Noah was closing the door of the ark when the cat woke up. The cat made it to the ark in time but Noah accidentally closed the door on the cat’s tail, cutting him off completely. Another legend has it that the cat came from a ship of the Spanish Armada that sank off the coast of the Isle of Man in 1588.
The true origin of Manx probably had more to do with trading ships sailing from Phoenicia to Japan. These sailors may have picked up some Japanese corkscrew-tailed cats on their travels, bringing them back aboard as mousers rather than importing a new breed of cat.
The first Manx champion was named Bonhaki. This silver tabby achieved fame in London around 1900. Manx has been bred in the United States since the early 1930s and the first United States Manx Grand Champion was awarded in 1951.
Cymric was first reported in Canada in the 1960s. Some registries still call these long-haired Manx; Others have given them the distinct race name of Cymric, derived from the Celtic word for Welsh.
