Somewhere between Zaun and its neighboring city of Piltover, in a sliver of rolling hills of muck and snow, there stood a house. A small house made of earth-rich stone, warm against the ashen landscape. Its curtains were drawn and there were no holiday decorations to be seen.

Dark eyes flicked around the interior of the home. Richly-colored, gaudy paintings decorated the walls. Multicolored handwoven rugs, odd-trinkets and plants in every corner. It was a small home, but it felt all too big for Mel. Her long, fluffy robe stark and impersonal against the warm, kitchy halls.

“An old…friend of mine is allowing me to stay here,” Mel explained, noticing her stare, “It has quite a rich history, so she thought it’d be a shame for it to be unused while she travels, “ she continued as she led them up the stairs, carpet creaking.

Many days are spent with you on your knees ripping up old carpets and humming along to your old radio as he stands in the doorway, his hooves clicking as he shifts his weight. You still don't have a name for him, nor does he have yours. He growls and hisses and speaks in a language that hurts whenever you try to call him anything other than 'demon'. You gave up shortly after the first nose bleed.

The next project is perhaps the most tedious and annoying. You decide to repaint the walls before installing new flooring - and every time you decide on a color, the nightmares start up again. His clawed hands braced on either side of your head, his knees pressed tightly against your hips and his tail swaying angrily. His lips curl back in a snarl as he glares down at you.

"Stay out of my head. Or else" he growls - and then, in the blink of an eye, he's gone and you're alone in the bed.

The demon doesn't disturb you for the rest of the month, but you see him in doorways and shadows. He never stays long enough for you to get a good look, but you know he's there. You almost... feel bad for him. Clearly he'd been through something traumatic as a human, and maybe it was that anger that kept him bound to this world. Privately, in the safety of your mind, you call him Alex. And you think the wallpaper matched his eyes almost perfectly.

Making peace with the demon is far harder than you could even begin to imagine. The whiskey bottle you had hung in the soul tree for him constantly shatters, and yet you always find one to replace it. It's almost a daily ritual, changing out the bottles and silently hoping this one lasts longer than the others - but it never does.

You leave out sweets and desserts for him. Bottles of strawberry jam, a pile of honeysuckle blooms, even a spare bottle of moonshine you'd found tucked away in the cupboard. It seems this type of offering is accepted - as you find a ghost orchid resting on your pillow the next time you lay down for sleep. He doesn't stomp as often, nor does his tail lash so violently. He almost seems... demure, tamed.

The first time you call him Alex is when things truly reach their peak - he bites you. You look at him through the mirror - and you see the hurt, the fear. Turning around, you look down and finally notice why his hoofbeats sound off. Just below the knee, his left leg is metallic and skeletal - he notices your stare and shifts his body to remove it from your sight. His tail whips and he disappears, the smell of sulfur strong enough to make your eyes water.

The next time you walk outside, the whiskey bottle in the soul tree is on the ground - perfectly intact, as if someone had cut it free. You kneel down and pick it up, glancing back at the other bottles, and you notice something. Hi there I was wondering if you knew of any way to identify authentic vintage FOB merch from fakes/reprints, I only ask because it seems like you have a collection of vintage FOB shirts, sorry if this question is directed to the wrong blog ❤️❤️

yes i do have some pointers!!!

investigate sellers. if a deal looks too good to be true it probably is, make sure the seller looks legit and has legit reviews if any reviews. if a collector is getting rid of their collection, there’s a really good chance all of their stuff is legit and they will note any boots or reprints, so i always check a seller’s page to see if they have a series of similar listings (could be say a bunch of fob and clandestine stuff, or even just an experienced merch reseller who has tons of band listings) and if they are i know i’m probably in the clear. a lot of times the opposite is also true! someone might just have a holy grail piece they’ve kept in their mom’s garage for 20 years and decide to finally part ways with it, most often this will be the only listing of that band + other listings of high school clothes or other clothes they’re selling, etc. i’ve found more of the latter than the former, for really good prices! you can also ask questions about the piece, like if there’s a back print, if i can get a pic of the tag, if i can see details (zippers, closeups on design, ink wear).

there are lots of indexes of tags and their approximate date information available out there, gildan for example can be less identifiable because a lot of merch and bootleggers still use gildan as their go to, but gildan’s had a long history of different tags, and if you’re able to find a good resource on what, say a tag from 2004 looks like, you’d be able to see if it matched the tag you’re looking at or if that shirt was printed last week. there are some more easily identifiable tags from the time period like bay island tags are always typically a dead giveaway you’re dealing with authentic merch. tags CAN be faked but it’s not typical for items like merch. another good sign for printed tags is if there’s wear on the tag itself former, real soft, sometimes blank or fading, etc, you just wanna see this thing has been used and abused. lots of people cut out their tags but if you can see any wear on cut tags (lots of soft, loose, threading, obvious it’s been through years of washing), that’s a sign you take if there’s no tag.

item wear. much like the last point, i usually look at items that have been very loved. darker colors will fade, so if im dealing with black shirts i often look for a fade as well. ink will crack over the years, so i always keep an eye out for any cracking or wear and i always like to see if the ink looks a little TOO intact and flexible. ink is not ALWAYS the most reliable way to clock a fake, but it’s a tool you can use.

have a good sense of what merch from the era looked like, if you can follow merch archives or go in the waybackmachine and look at the merch store or follow collector accounts, there’s a good chance you will probably be able to find the design you’re looking at. fob has very distinct logos for each time period so if i see an infinity on high logo on a futct keyhole im like alright that’s not real. they have stylistic moments that adhere to their albums really well. tttyg era merch has a lot of bitey commentary and usually darker colors, more big and bold designs. futct has a whole lot of gold and red and deer and on the other side of the spectrum bright colors and a kind of 70’s-ish almost high school sports-leaning font and theme.

the plus side is i haven’t run into a whole lot of fob fakes! a dead giveaway is if the photo looks funky like it was snagged from off the internet or you’ve seen a pic of that shirt floating around, (you can always reverse image search and see if that photo was snagged from somewhere else!), i like when i can tell a photo was actually taken in someone’s house or space, walls, hangers, carpets, on someone’s bed, it’s just a good way to see someone is a real person. another dead giveaway is if you see multiple sizes and a low price of $24.99 for a shirt you know is super rare, that’s a fake and that is some weird internet swindler who most likely won’t even give you a decent print of what they’re advertising they have. i also appreciate sellers who list measurements, talk about the fit, just give more information than a “BLACK SHIRT 100% COTTON.” fob do have some weirdos on eBay who’ve been selling these bogus reprints, but for the most part i haven’t seen them anywhere else.

so many bootleggers are cool and they will not try to trick you into thinking you’re getting an original print. bootleggers will give you the information about what kind of shirts they will be printing on, what kind of ink they will be using, how long their print runs will be, etc, they will make it explicitly clear that this is a bootleg design, AND they will most likely give you one that’s killer in quality. i own a BUNCH of boots of certain designs im sure will never see the light of day again, at the end of the day i will prioritize my desire for a certain design over authenticity (and also support legit, cool bootleggers who are making sure these designs don’t get lost to time). there are certain pieces i won’t budge on my requirement that they be authentic. at the end of the day it’s your collection and you get to make the rules!

A House by the Woods

As a bit of a precursor, this is by no means finished, and is more of a way to practice descriptions. I plan to make a more finished version later, but for now, this is just to get something out there.

In a little sun-lit meadow just south of a deep and ancient forest lay a red brick house, slightly covered in moss and vines. Ankle-high grass waved slowly in the wind all throughout the meadow, broken up by tall flowers scattered sporadically throughout. A little way away was a shimmering creek that flowed over countless smooth pebbles. A coarse gravel path led from the stream up to the back door of the house, and out from the front of the house led a dirt road that disappeared somewhere south beyond the hills.

From the house’s open windows, the pungent scent of garlic and onions lingered in the air, a scent that was somewhere between the realms of pleasant and unpleasant. The afternoon light flowed over the tree tops and through the little gaps between the white picket fence that separated the house from the untamed wilderness. Upon the house’s thatch roof was a layer of old and decaying leaves. The house itself was a little worn, but by no means was it in disrepair. In fact, apart from the foliage growing on them, the walls were polished and clean, and the area inside the fence was well kept and orderly.

On the west side of the house lay a number of gardening tools and a few flourishing vegetable gardens, while on the east side there stood a small shed and well. There were a number of shrubs and flowers of all shapes and colors growing around the house, interspersed with small clay statuettes. At the front of the house was a large oaken door with an intricate pattern carved into the front, and on each side of the door was an arched window set neatly into the wall.

If you were to step inside, the first thing you would notice would be the hall. While not particularly grandiose, a single long red carpet led from the front door to the end of the hall. The hall had ample lighting from two small, evenly spaced hanging lanterns, and was adorned with a few tapestries depicting scenes of distant and mysterious places. On each side of the hall lay 2 separate doors which lead to bedrooms and storerooms, while the end of the hall lay a set of great double doors made of a fine spruce wood. Through these doors lay a kitchen of considerable size, with anything an aspiring chef could ever need. The kitchen had far too many implements to count, and spice racks littered the walls. There were twin stoves upon which sat a great pot, the source of the scent from before.

Beside the kitchen was the dining room, cozy in design and filled with a number of shelves. Books of all sorts covered each layer of the shelf, fantastical volumes. So great was the number that many libraries might be put to shame. In the center of the room lay the table surrounded by chairs. It was a sturdy old thing that had clearly made its way through generations. Upon it sat four earthen plates, each complimented by a set of silverware of a fanciful design that did not match the rest of the table. A pitcher filled with some manner of juice sat in the middle, ready to pour.

The most curious thing about this room was the lighting. Several candles floated about the room, seemingly of their own free will. Each one possessed a different-colored flame, and would occasionally flare up before dying back down. Of course, if you had never been to the great cities beyond the hills, this would have seemed remarkably strange, but for people there, it was quite commonplace to have things of an even stranger nature. However, out in these relatively untamed parts of the world, candles did not often float about or glow with strange vibrancies.

A note was left on Marco’s quarters door that he would be out for a few hours but he didn’t give too much details as he was off to get his hair done. His grey hairs were finally showing and well he need to get a hair cut too.

He got to barbershop the Whitebeard pirates frequented and greeted everyone as he walked in with a big smile.

“…the usual then, Marco?”, the owner asked with a smile.

“Yes…my age is finally starting to show”, he said teasingly.

“…you still look like the young man who walked through my doors 20 years ago…take a seat and I’ll get you a hot towel”, he said gently before disappearing in the back.

Marco took a seat and relaxed for a bit before the barber came in and wrapped a hot towel on his face, “…I got one of my best to take care of you today…try not to burn them”, the barber said playfully.

Marco chuckled in response, “…I’ll try not to”.

His face with still covered with the towel when someone else would come and draped a cape over him.

“…okay, so I’ll be doing your hair today, I’m Y/N by the way”, they said as they ran their fingers through his hair slowly.

“…that’s a beautiful name, I’m in your care”, he replied as he enjoyed the feeling of their fingers running through his hair, it made him relax even more.

Y/N smiled a little as they looked down at the man with his face wrapped in a hot towel, “…so just the roots and a haircut?”, they asked gently.

“Yes and a shave later on…”, he replied.

“…got it…I’ll be right back”, Y/N said as they went to get some product and their tools.

Marco waited patiently before he would feel them start trimming his hair and shaving it to his usual style.

The towel was then removed and it took some time for his eyes to adjust before he slipped on his glasses just so he could see Y/N. His jaw dropped a little as he looked at their reflection in the mirror in front of him.

“…is the length okay or do we want to go shorter?”, they asked as they ran their fingers through his hair again just to show him and make sure he was satisfied.

“Y-yes…it’s perfect”, he said as he gulped a little.

Y/N smiled and nodded, “…I’ll start with your color then”.

During the entire process, he couldn’t take his eyes off Y/N. They really peaked his interest.

“So, Y/N…you’ve been doing hair for a while then?”, he asked out of curiosity.

“…not really but it’s something I’m good at so I thought starting a career in it wouldn’t be a bad idea”, Y/N replied gently with a smile.

“Yes, you’re very good if you get to work here…the owner has quite the interesting clientele…”, Marco said with a weak smile.

“…a very interesting clientele”, Y/N replied with a smirk.

He chuckled in response, “…are you from this island?”.

“Born and raised…”, Y/N replied gently as they began his close shave.

“…hmm…you must know where to get the best meals then”, he murmured, trying to be as still as possible so that they didn’t cut him by accident.

“I do…it’s not too far from here too”, they said gently, “….maybe after I’m done with your hair, I could take you there…it’s almost my lunch break anyway”.

“Oh yeah? That sounds fun…”, he said with a smile as he internally grinned even more.

Once his hair was all done, he thanked Y/N and paid the owner before waiting out for them so that they could go for lunch together.

Y/N came out in no time and walked with him to local restaurant that apparently had the best food. They ordered their meals and some drinks.

“…so I’ve heard you’re from the Whitebeard pirates…is he really as cool as everyone around here says he is?”, Y/N asked as they sipped their drink.

“Oyaji? Yeah, he’s amazing! You should meet him sometime…he comes here every now and then”, Marco said with a big smile, clearly very fond of his father-figure and captain.

“…I’ve always been a little nervous…don’t want to be too bold or rude with someone like that”, they admitted.

“…he likes bold people, so just be yourself and tell him you’ll do his hair for free”, he said teasingly.

Y/N blushed at that and then laughed at the realization of what he just said, “…and you’re certain I wouldn’t get killed for saying that?! You’re the worst”.
