alrighty here’s my personal take on what kinds of genes go where. not gonna name every gene, especially not ancient genes cause i dont have ‘em memorized at all, just whatever comes to mind as i’m typing

gem mp: shiny sparkly and fancy but in a way that adds a different texture to the dragon, just like gems themselves - i’m talkin irishim, cryface, metalloy, wasp/bee, starcon, glimmer, opal, filigree, genes like those, seems simple to me

baldwin: got a wacky gene? got a gene that looks like your dragon got dunked in the cauldron? got something dangerous or nasty? it goes here. poitox, slime/sludge, lionfish/noxtide, soap, glowtail, firefly, capsule, k*el, that kinda thing. shiny textures and glowing parts are welcome. koi and flecks seem like they would fit as well since they’re patchy and random.

swipp: i really just don’t know. mixed bag ig

coli: i also don’t know, maybe phasar would be at home here with pymorph? possibly venue-themed genes? maybe you could randomly get gembond in crystal pools by getting bitten by that one gem snake, i was gonna put it in baldwin but i think this is funnier

arlo is actually really good at theming his genes. i will leave him alone.

notn: this is where harlequin/jester should go, it’s a shadowy holiday full of trickery (diamond/spade could also go here, same vibe). hell, the actual jester sets are from notn. if we aren’t getting apparel Sets anymore, why not have fancy genes as a treat? stitched/patchwork and fern/paisley also go here for uh, mimicking objects, or whatever fern/paisley is trying to do.

treasure mp: anything else, definitely plain animal patterns (jaguar/rosette, tiger/stripes, petals/butterfly, thyla) and general flat color stuff (cherub/seraph, savannah/safari, fade/blend, contour, underbelly, stained, ghost). sparkly flat color stuff as a treat (flafla, sparkle, runes), treasure is sparkly too y'know.

and there we go! that’s how i would sort genes. now you know what i, random anon, mean when i say something doesn’t feel like an [x] gene but more like an [x] gene. it doesn’t mean i’m broke. it means i think of the genes differently than staff and it feels like they assign genes kinda random values. yes it could be how difficult to draw they are, but personally recreating stuff like metalloy is a breeze for me while pintrail has me wilting so idk maybe maybe not. ok thank u for ur time ik this post is long

Halloween in the Deep

While Halloween is not generally celebrated in post Horrors America, it is celebrated in the Deep.

It is a festival of make believe, wilderness, monsters.

People are encouraged to create, wear, and trade garish costumes. With costume contests being a thing in some circles. Others use costumes as another form of self expression, a reclamation of fears and freedom.

There's also an abundance of treats curated specifically for the season. Pumpkin stew, turkey roast, spiced cider, baked apples, Despression cakes, ect.

There's also no short of alcoholic beverages. Most of them are also flavored for the holiday. Or dressed up a bit.

Though of course if you're a traditionalist, well there's plenty of plain drinks!

Now more about how the Deep Horrors celebrate

Dr. Smiley loves the costumes. She remembers the time when she was younger and Halloween was all about the dress up.

While she's not into it as much as an adult, she still loves dressing up her dolls. She has an entire bin of costumes that she shuffles through them. She also loves helping people dress up their prosthetics.

The Unsightly Jester is not into the Halloweenness of Halloween. Rather ey are into the tricks aspect. Jester loves setting minor pranks and decorations. One of eir favorite pranks is to joke about being around for the holidays Creation.

Colis hates Halloween. Holidays themselves are a sore subject. But this festival in particular erks him. It's literally admiring demons! He will very vehemently refuse to participate, which is fine by the rest of the Deep. To distract himself, he makes his own spiced cakes to sell.

Hmmm I want to run a new coli team for the new achievements.

Have 2/3 of the dragons I want on it but can't decide on the 3rd.

Got an Arcane crystal wizard and a Nature garden Mom.

Should my third be a demented Light jester, an Ice brigand or a Plague vampire?

"Aww see~" Vertebrae replied coly, a mischievous grin on her face.

"That wasn't so hard now was it?" Chuckling she leaned back onto the hand holding her. She regarded the dragon for a few seconds. Normally the jester simply accepted whole skeletons for nights of intimacy with her. Although she'd end up devour her partners after the act so she'd usually end up with two sets of remains and a meal to boot.

This dragon however, he'd already willingly offered to provide her with more bones in future dealings. So killing him after mating was certainly out of the question for now.

"Hmmm alright, You are a dragon though dearie so when you say substantial I hope you know I'm expecting something worthwhile." she hummed aloud in thought for a moment.

"How's about three dozen sets of remains? And if you get me at least one fresh one I'll even let you finish inside." She giggled salaciously while extending a hand to Alexander prompting a handshake to solidify the deal.

"That sound like a fair enough deal?"

The more awkward he got the more excited the demoness got. She was having so much fun with him, this part of the process was always a delight for her.

"Be with you? hmm? Oh dearie you'll have to be a little more specific. I only accept an offer when I know all the details~" She purred reaching up to touch one of his large tusk like fangs. Sliding her fingers against its surface in a deliberately smooth and slow fashion.

She tilted her head slightly as she thought for a moment before shaking her head lightly. The bells on her cap ringing with the movement.

"I've made deals with all manner of creatures but another dragon? Hmmm nope~ Can't say I've ever made a deal with one of your kind before dearie. But Oh that just makes it more exciting doesn't it?"

Hi my name is Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Rav and I have long obsdian black hair (that's how I got my name) with purple hightlights and red tips and orange plants that reaches my everywhere and ice eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Naomi (AN: if u don't know who she is get da hell out of here!). I'm a shadebeast but I look normal, my primary is lionfish antique. I'm also a coli fighter, and I go to a clan where I'm in the hibden (I'm 0 years old cuz im a scry). I'm a goth (in case you couldn't tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Patches pirate plunder and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a dusk rogue vest with matching lace on my wings and a brutal kilt, whimiscal jester stockings and tarnished steel boots.

people arguing that a 1-click bond all button would break the economy are so silly. fool that you are, that you forget that bonding is already limited to once per day, a set treasure price, and that you must have familiars equipped to a dragon to bond at all. my good jester nobody's becoming rich off of familiar bonding. saying that is like saying one gets wealthy from maxing fairgrounds. 50kt is a mere pence to the elite coli grinders and skin artists of flight rising. please.

Weekly Update: Feb. 21 - 27, 2021

1. I got my first boss familiars! The first one I got while on break at work (Crystalhide Jester); thankfully I was alone, so I could do my happy flappy hands freely. The second one (Roc) I got just a day or two later while at home. Still exciting! And I'm surprised I got two in such a short time.

2. I got an unhatched water egg from the coliseum! The only other eggs I've ever got were during Night of the Nocturne (I got three then), and none from the coli, so I'm very excited about this as well!

3. Unfortunately I forgot to take a screenshot of this, but I had twelve empty lair spots at once! Twelve! I don't think I've had this many empty spots at once since I started back in July 2020. Because of all my empty spots, I was able to hatch all four of my nests in one go. It was such a good feeling! So many new additions to the clan <3

4. Take a look at those last two...Yeah! I finally got Veilspuns! They were only 4 and 5 gems on the AH; I'm very surprised they are already so inexpensive. Look at their potential offspring!

5. This week I also got a coli team to level 24! I've been working on these ladies for what feels like forever, and I'm so excited for how far we've come! Only one more level to go. When we get there, I'm going to commission or buy some art of the three sisters in celebration.

6. I won a raffle (run by some Shadow folks) during Trickmurk 2021! I got a ticket for it because I brewed the Toxin gene as one of the raffle prizes. This is what I got!

if you’re someone who does coli stuff during it, it’s two weeks of stress

but no basically for two weeks there are unique mobs in certain coliseum venues that drop unique loot that can be used in unique trades at Swipp’s and unique recipes at Baldwin’s [and also some stuff from gathering i THINK im fuzzy on that bit my brain is bad]

the aim more or less is to make Strange Chests either via gathering, as coliseum drops on their own, trading with swipp, or brewing, and people do one of two things with the chests

1. open them to try and get (among other things) unhatched nocturne eggs and noc breed change scrolls [they’re rare and when u open a chest and get the 7th piece of jester apparel it hurts a bit] OR

2. sell the chests on the AH to people who do #1 for Maximum Profit [this is smarter but i dont do it bc hehe open boxe.... receive gift.....]
