Let's talk about the racism that Meghan experienced in UK
"I do think Meghan did experience some racism in the press - like that horrible monkey photo after Archie was born - if not as much as she said."
If all Meghan had done was said “this isn’t right and you know it” every time there was legitimate racism (aka, speak softly), the public would’ve hung, drawn, quartered, flayed, and burned the press alive for her (the big stick).
Firstly, the radio personality who posted that monkey photo to his social media had done that for every single royal baby since George. He did it for George, Charlotte, Louis and Archie. It was his way of mocking the idea of royal babies being paraded as if they were performing monkeys. The image he used was of a real life socialite couple from the 1930s who kept a monkey and dressed it up and paraded it for amusement. It hit badly with Archie because he is part black and the radio personality claimed he didn't know Meghan or Archie were black because he doesn't follow the royals at all and was aware that Harold had married, but not the minute details involved.
He publicly apologised profusely after he found out and pulled down the picture immediately. As a very public radio personality with over 30yrs standing, he'd never shown or said anything racist that we were aware of, and had a spotless record which made his public explanation believable if you lived in the UK. Other countries, having different racial history and different relationship to their public figures refused to accept his explanation and also refused to accept that this was a one off incident by one person, a radio personality on his own IG account simply tarred entire UK media with this incident as did Markle and Harry.
Secondly, the girlfriend of a far right political leader had a very public racist twitter conversation about Archie and Meghan. The DM publicly shamed her and published her twitter thread as the perfect example of unacceptable behaviour from public figures and their WAGs.
Boris Johnson's sister wrote about Meghan's exotic blood adding to the thin blue blood of royal family. This is a template article trotted out every time a royal gets married. It is a celebratory article that points to the most obvious difference between them and frames it as advantageous for the royals to have the new in-law because it improves their thin blue blood!!
The language is always unfortunate no matter which royal bride they pick on.
For Kate, the same article described  how her working class blood from her coal miner ancestors would enrich the thin blue blood of the royals. Honestly, the way they repeatedly reported on Carole's working class, coal mining roots, you'd think that Kate had emerged from the coal mines a minute before her engagement photocall. There was a strong element of calling Carole and Kate upstarts for daring to emerge from their coal mining ancestors to marry the Prince of the realms. You see this point geing made even in comedy shows like The Windsors where Kate is depicted as having travellers ( Romani people) background.
If you google archive articles written about Sophie, Fergie and Diana, you'll find that this type of article was written about them too.
In Diana's case, her article was framed as Charles marrying up because the Spencers are trophy aristocrats whose titles are *older than the Windsor titles.
*There is a whole aristocratic snobbery thing about dates titles/ dynasty are created. The older the title/ dynasty creation date, the more aristocratic you are perceived to be. So the Spencer title/ creation created in the 17th century is more aristocratic than the Hanoverian/ Saxe- Coburg-Gotha/Windsor titles/ creation. Ditto older and more aristocratic than Philip's Edinburgh titles which is why Diana could be cheeky to him about it.
In Meghan's case, this template article hit badly because the language used to describe her difference has become racialised in some instances and so this article was interpreted as racist.
Ditto the straight out of Compton article which can be substituted for the many, many articles written about Kate and her coal mining ancestors.
The headline came from a clueless editor who thought they'd be witty by using the title of same name movie that was out around this time and had played very well in the UK.
Reading the article, i was struck at the class digs therein. Just like the class digs at Kate 7yrs earlier. It was quite offensive in that respect. But everyone chose to read the headline and nothing more and be offended by their racist interpretation of the headline and ignore the more offensive classist article.
For your point about the public coming to Meghan's defence when each of these things happened.....they did. The whole country was outraged. The popuoar radio personality was sacked less than an hour after that monkey picture went up and despite understanding his explanation, he was cancelled and remains cancelled to this day. He has disappeared completely from the public. Not even one of those 'where is he?' Type artivles/ pap pics retrospectives about him. Gone. Finito. Never to be accepted back in public life.
Ditto the political leader and his girlfriend. It says alot when even our own far-right figures find that kind of language from their own leaders unacceptable. He resigned from the party within days of that article. Cancelled never to be heard from again.
The problem is that Meghan and Harry keep repeating these ergregious incidents as if they were happening repeatedly, and that entire UK media was engaged in them and also remove context so that uninformed public think that Megyan was continually racially abused by UK media.
Between you and me, i think the DM tried to walk back their straight outta compton article by going on a crusade to shame other more ergregious racists to distract from their own mistake, but also to show Markle that they could and would defend her. Other UK media took the same route, but unfortunately for everyone, she didn't accept and instead twisted their defence to pretend the UK media was actively and deliberately racially abusing her. And that's the narrative that has stuck.
*****
Old ask from March 4th. It’s from the discussion we were having about Scobie’s handling/presentation of racism in Endgame. I think you can find some of the earlier conversation in the Endgame tag.

“Hey. Rin. Get up!”
Rin bats the hand ruffling his hair aside as he burrows into his pillow.
“Rin! Hey. Come on, they’re letting you out. It’s already ten in the morning.”
Rin squints his eyes open. “What?”
Shura is standing over him, holding a clipboard in one hand. “Last night, we saw the airport demon use flames. That means you didn’t lose control. Somehow, it can use Satan’s flames too.” She crosses her arms as she looks over his pile of snacks. “Then, there’s no point in keeping you locked up here anymore.”
“Oh.” Rin yawns, blinking as Kuro crawls over his stomach to greet Shura. “What happened, then? Is the Legion still looking for it?”
“Yeah.” Shura tosses him a trash bag and a yakisoba bun. “We’re doing twelve-hour shifts. I have to head back soon.” She pats Kuro on the head twice and walks off. “Clean this up and get back to work. I saw Yukio come in this morning, but he’s sick or something. He told me to buy you food.”
Rin sits straight up just as the door shuts. “What?”
He crams all of his things into the trash bag, signs a bunch of forms, and jogs over to headquarters. One of the new inspectors, Takeda, briefs him on what was done yesterday on a case tracking a phantom taxi. Rin really doesn’t remember anything about that.
“What about that case with Ishikawa Fumi?” Rin asks as they head upstairs.
Takeda flips a few pages on her clipboard. “I’m not sure. I believe it’s been assigned to someone else.”
“Okay. Yeah, don’t worry about it,” Rin says. “I’ll go check in with my other teams. Thanks for briefing me.”
Takeda smiles and nods.
Still, the day goes on, and no one comes to talk to him about Ishikawa’s case. He’s busy trying to supervise two teams cleaning up the airport, the phantom taxi, and something about a mansion infested with coal tars that the owner refuses to get cleaned.
It kind of sucks. When he was working mostly out of the Vatican, he got to go on cool missions. Being the only Arc Knight based in Japan leaves him with all these supervising tasks. The only good thing about it is that he can stay close to home.
Rin. Rin? Kuro winds circles around his legs as Rin reads a report. Let’s eat lunch. Isn’t it lunchtime?
“Oh, okay.” Rin smiles, reaching down to pick him up. It’s already past noon. He hadn’t even realized.
The cafeteria is crowded, so he hunches at his desk as he eats and manages to look into what has been going on with Ishikawa’s case.
For some reason, the page for exorcists assigned to the case is blank. Maybe they haven’t updated it yet. If nothing changes by the end of today, he’ll check with the admin staff.
The last report says they asked the family a few more questions about who knew they were going to the charity concert. The police have been running background checks and things. None of the traffic cameras in the area showed Ishikawa leaving the hall.
Also, a lady went missing at the airport, like those victims in the portal case. Somehow, Yukio was the one who ended up interviewing the witness, even though today is his first official day back. Weird.
Rin should probably be doing a better job supervising who is working on the case and when, but he was locked up for a whole day and a half, so it’s been messy.
Still, somehow, that lady who went missing at the airport wasn’t an exorcist. That has to be important.
Where is Yukio anyway? Rin hasn’t seen or heard from him all day.
To keep reading on AO3 :) (this is chapter 4)

Top Solutions for Psoriasis Relief
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that affects the skin cells, causing them to multiply rapidly. This excessive cell growth leads to the formation of raised, red, and scaly patches on the skin, commonly known as plaques. Psoriasis can occur anywhere on the body, including the legs, and it often leads to discomfort, itching, and pain for those who suffer from it.
For More Information Please visit, psoriasis treatment Scottsdale
Understanding Psoriasis on Legs
Psoriasis on the legs can be particularly challenging due to the constant movement and friction in that area. The symptoms often include itchy, dry, and scaly skin, which can lead to bleeding and infection if not properly managed. Since the skin on the legs is thicker than on other parts of  the body, treating psoriasis in this area requires a specific approach.
Best Treatments for Psoriasis on Legs
Topical Treatments: These creams help reduce inflammation and itching. Mild corticosteroid creams are often prescribed for delicate areas like the face and genitals, while stronger ones may be used on the legs. These medications reduce inflammation and plaque buildup. They are particularly useful for sensitive areas where steroids might cause skin thinning. Products containing coal tar can help slow skin cell growth and alleviate itching. They are available in various forms, such as lotions, shampoos, and creams.
Phototherapy (Light Therapy): Controlled exposure to UVB light slows down the rapid growth of skin cells. This treatment is often administered in a medical setting and can be targeted specifically to the affected leg areas.
Oral and Injected Medications : These compounds derived from vitamin A can help reduce skin cell production. Biologic drugs, usually administered via injections, target specific parts of the immune system, providing relief from psoriasis symptoms. This oral medication suppresses the immune system and slows skin cell growth.
Moisturizers and Bathing:Regular use of fragrance-free moisturizers can prevent dryness and reduce itching. Adding colloidal oatmeal, Epsom salts, or Dead Sea salts to warm baths can soothe the skin and relieve discomfort.
Lifestyle and Dietary Changes: Some individuals find relief by following an anti-inflammatory diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while avoiding processed foods and red meat. Stress can exacerbate psoriasis symptoms. Practices like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing can help manage stress levels.Identifying and avoiding triggers such as certain foods, alcohol, and smoking can help in managing psoriasis symptoms.
Alternative Therapies: Some people report relief from psoriasis symptoms through acupuncture sessions. Applying  aloevera  gel directly to the affected areas can provide cooling relief. Regular consultations with a dermatologist are essential to monitor the condition, adjust treatments if necessary, and address any concerns.
Conclusion
While there is no one-size-fits-all solution for psoriasis on the legs, a combination of medical treatments, lifestyle changes, and a proactive approach to skin care can significantly improve the condition and the quality of life for those affected. It's important for individuals suffering from psoriasis to work closely with healthcare professionals to find the most suitable treatment plan tailored to their specific needs and symptoms. With the right approach, managing psoriasis on the legs is possible, allowing individuals to lead fulfilling, active lives despite this chronic skin condition.

The Legendary Wakulla Volcano
It's a great mystery-that lonely smoke-pot in the vast Wakulla Swamp. -Maurice Thompson's A Tallahassee Girl, 1881
Twenty-five miles southeast of Tallahassee there's a secret buried in the vast Wacissa Swamp that's part of Florida's great pioneer legends. For nearly two centuries, stories have been handed down about the mysterious Wacissa Smoke, which supposedly came from the long-lost Wakulla Volcano.
The first accounts of the Wacissa Smoke can be found in early Seminole Indian lore that told of "smoke rising in the swamp." In 1830, settlers blamed the mystery on smoke from Indian campfires or from a pirate's den. The smoke varied from thick black, like coal smoke, to the bluish white of wood smoke and usually swirled upward, like smoke in a drifting upward, like smoke in a chimney, although it could be just a drifting haze. It was visible from far out on the Gulf of Mexico, and ships sailing into the port of St. Marks often relied on it as a navigational aid. Seafarers said it was "the old man of the swamp smoking his pipe." Superstitious folk claimed it was "the devil stirring his tar kiln."
The Wacissa Swamp is virtually an untouched wilderness dotted with numerous sulfur springs. Its subtropical growth covers a marsh that is the habitat of a variety of creatures, from snakes as big as your arm to a healthy population of gators. The only dry spots are a few pine hammocks. Many parts of this vine-tangled jungled are as inaccessible today as they were a century ago, which explains why very people have ever tried to locate the origin of the smoke.
By 1840, Tallahassee residents were climbing up on rooftops to see what they thought was smoke from a camp of runaway slaves. On a clear day, the smoke could be seen from up to twenty miles away, and at night, people reported seeing a glow far out in the swamp. The Tallahassee Patriot described the glow in an 1880 article as "looking more like a large fire shooting its flaming tongue high up into the upper realms, frequently reflected back by passing clouds." During the Civil War, people speculated that the smoke was coming from a camp of deserters or from the mother of all moonshine stills. Each new theory seemed to ignore the fact that the smoke had been observed for at least a hundred years.
In the late 1880s, the New York Herald Tribune decided to investigate the situation, and an expedition was formed, made up of a New York journalist and three guides. They fought for nearly three days through saw grass, mud, mosquitoes, and cottonmouth moccasins but gave up their ill-fated quest after one of the guides fell out of a tree trying to get a bearing on the smoke and the unfortunate New York reporter died from swamp fever.
Then the smoke suddenly ceased on August 31, 1886, when an earthquake hit Charleston, South Carolina, sending tremors throughout northern Florida. The legend lives on, but the smoke hasn't been seen since. Did the earthquake cause a geological effect that plugged up Florida's volcano? A recent inquiry to the University of Florida's geology department brought the following response: "We are unaware of the Wakulla Volcano as described, and certainly no volcanic activity occurred." But in recent times, numerous people have accidentally stumbled upon what they believed was the elusive crater. One old-timer described seeing "a blackened, dishpan-size hole atop a rocky knoll which was scattered with rocks." Others, including one Willam Wyatt in 1935, have claimed to find "scattered rocks that looked like they had been burnt by extreme heat." When Highway 98 was being built in 1949, workers came upon a deep hole in the middle of the Wacissa Swamp that required six hundred tons of rock to fill, hauled by thirty-four dump tracks. Was that the crater?
In October 1997, a team from UNX-Research, a nonprofit group investigating unexplained phenomena, went in search of the legendary volcano. The tea, consisting of Jim Whitman and Bill and Todd Meyers, made their way by boat down the Wacissa River to where it meets the Aucilla River. According to most reports, the source of the smoke was near the intersection of these two rivers. "We hiked about two miles from the river to a high ridge that ran through a hammock," recounted Bill Meyers. "There was a high point on this ridge with rocks strewn everywhere. The rocks were overgrown with vegetation, but some were pretty large, at least a hundred pounds. Some of the smaller ones looked like they had been burned but we couldn't tell if it was because of a natural swamp fire or something else. We didn't find anything like a crater or anything that looked like lava material, and most of the rocks were plain ol' limestone or flint."
Over the years, people have offered numerous explanations for the mysterious smoke, but the smoke hasn't given up its secret. Somewhere out among the alligators and snakes lies the answer to Florida's lost volcano mystery, perhaps waiting to become active again.
Weird Rocks in Rock Hammock
There's a place in the Wacissa called Rock Hammock. I've been there a bunch of times, and there's big rocks all over. They had to be pushed out of the ground by some kind of force, because I saw this for myself. -Bryan G.
Steam Coming from the Hole
My uncle used to hunt in those parts with a man that told him about a deep hole in a solid bed of rock that you can stick a large coffee can in, and he said that there was hot steam coming out of that hole. I heard there are underground caverns in that area. This makes me wonder if the Wakulla Volcano was really a hot spring. -cyberhound

This is expected to bring in a significant positive impact on the overall printed circuit board demand. Thus, the increasing demand for textiles and printed circuit boards in the region is set to drive the anthracene industry in Asia-Pacific during the forecast period.
Anthracene Market Drivers
Increasing Prevalence of Cancer Patients
The anthracene-9,10-dione (anthraquinone) derivatives are a particularly valuable class in the development of anticancer drugs. Since the discovery of these chemotypes, medicinal chemists have been drawn to anthracycline antibiotics because of their outstanding antitumor potency. Doxorubicin, mitoxantrone, and more recently epirubicin, idarubicin, and valrubicin are anthraquinone-based drugs that have been successfully used in the treatment of hematological and solid tumors. World Health Organization (WHO) says cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to World Health Organisation 2023, An estimated 10 million people died from cancer worldwide, and there were 20 million new instances of the disease. Over the next 20 years, there will be a 60% rise in the cancer burden, placing additional strain on communities, individuals, and health systems. In low- and middle-income nations, the biggest increases in the global burden of cancer cases are expected to occur, with an estimated 30 million more cases worldwide by 2040. Due to this increase in the number of cancer patients the demand for anti-cancer agents will significantly increase, owing to which the Anthracene market will exhibit rapid growth over the forecast period.
Soaring Demand from the Agriculture Industry
Anthracene is extensively used in the agriculture sector as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. The world population is gradually increasing. With the population steadily growing, enough crops must be produced each year to provide food to people. And pesticides such as herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides play an important role in providing crops with the nutrients they need to grow and enhance crop yield. Thus, to improve the crop yield within the same area of arable lands and provide crops proper nutrients, pesticides are being extensively utilized during crop production. According to European Commission in March 2023, Italian rice is mostly grown in northern regions of Lombardy. Italy is the world’s only grower of types such as Arborio and Carnaroli that are most suitable for the popular Italian dish risotto. With the increasing crop production, there is an increasing demand for pesticides, which is driving the anthracene market in the agriculture sector.
Anthracene Market Challenges
Various Hazards Associated with Anthracene
If inhaled through contaminated air, anthracene has harmful effects on the body. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Hazardous Substance List includes anthracene. When someone inhales it, their lungs are first and foremost damaged. If a person works at a hazardous waste site where polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are disposed of, there is a high risk of inhaling anthracene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). Similarly, it can enter one’s body through foods and beverages. When a person’s skin comes into contact with creosote, roofing tar, heavy oils, or coal tar, as well as contaminated soil containing PAHs, there is a risk of exposure. Once inside the human body, the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) can spread and target fat tissues. The kidneys, liver, and fat tissues in the human body may be affected. When people are exposed to it, it can harm their health by irritating their eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. When exposed to the environment, it can also cause fire and explosion. Until the early 2010s, discussions over peak oil generally exclusively referred to concerns over peak oil production: the point at which crude oil reaches its maximum production capacity, followed by an irreversible decline.
This was a worrying concept for energy experts seeing a rising global dependence on oil, and there's no shortage of predictions of sometimes imminent arrival of peak oil production that haven't come to pass. One big reason the world hasn't reached this peak in recent years is the advent of unconventional oil sources such as shale oil and tar sands, combined with discoveries of large conventional oil fields in countries such as Guyana, Namibia and Brazil.
"There's always been new discoveries or new technologies, new ways of extracting oil," says Krista Halttunen, a research fellow in sustainable finance at the University of Oxford who co-authored a paper last year on peak oil while a PhD researcher at Imperial College London. "So we've never actually reached a peak – oil production capacity has been growing the entire time that we've had oil, really."
As concerns over climate change have grown over the past few decades, however, opinions around fossil fuel extraction have shifted enormously. With coal, oil and gas by far the largest contributors to global climate change, and a host of alternative renewable energy sources waiting at our fingertips, a reduction and phase-out of fossil fuels is seen as an urgent and necessary step.
As the world has begun to make efforts to move away from fossil fuels, a new concept of peak fossil fuels has emerged: that we will hopefully start cutting our need for them far before we use up all that is possible to extract from the Earth's crust. This is the point the IEA now thinks the world will reach at the end of the 2020s.
A surprise result
The IEA's new projections come from its latest medium-term oil report and are broadly aligned with its "stated policies scenario" (Steps) – a relatively conservative global scenario, which is based on what has already been put in place to achieve climate and other energy goals, rather than assuming all stated goals will be met.
"This is a view of what we think is going to happen based on things that people have said they're going to do or that we're confident are going to happen," says Healy. [...]. "We're doing our best job of trying to say what we think is the likely way things will play out." For oil demand to decline sooner, additional policy measures and behavioural changes would be needed, the IEA notes.
Even tracking the current use of oil is a big job. "There's a big team of statisticians here that do nothing else, essentially," says Healy.
The five-year projection goes up to 2028 – when the IEA thinks the world will be just on the brink of reaching peak oil demand.
The report marks the first time the IEA has found global oil demand will peak in such a short timeframe. "When we ran the model, and there was a peak in it, it was a bit of a surprise," says Healy. "It was clearly a very interesting result."
The key to peaking oil use
To understand what the IEA thinks is now happening with peak oil demand, it's worth considering that the transport sector is by far the biggest consumer of oil: it accounts for around 60% of the 100 million barrels of oil used globally every day. "There's nothing else that takes up as much oil as transport," says Halttunen.
Of that, around 45% of the total, or around 45 million barrels a day, is used in road fuel for vehicles like cars, trucks and vans, says Healy. It's here where sweeping changes are already beginning to curb oil demand.
Two big factors are driving this: the advent of alternative vehicle fuels – especially electric vehicles – and increased vehicle efficiency.
Electric vehicles have been a huge success story, says Healy, and are already having an impact on gasoline demand – especially in China, Europe and North America. Globally, 14% of all new cars sold in 2022 were electric, up from 9% in 2021 and less than 5% in 2020.
"We expect that to continue to have a really big impact, as more and more electric vehicles are sold and displace the use of internal combustion engines in the fleet," says Healy.
