‘The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition’ - Arjan Bhullar Stresses the Importance of Teamwork for Success
Tumblr media
Top ONE Championship heavyweight talent and former UFC veteran Arjan “Singh” Bhullar is just days away from the biggest fight of his professional career.
The 34-year-old Indian mixed martial arts star will soon challenge for the ONE World Title at the previously recorded ONE: DANGAL on Saturday, 15 May, where he takes on reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon "The Truth" Vera.
However, he did take the time out to share his thoughts on reality competition series “The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition,” which is fast approaching the conclusion of its inaugural season.
The 34-year-old who traces his roots to Billi Bhullar village in the Jalandhar district of the North Indian state of Punjab says he has learned a lot from watching the show. He stresses the importance of working together to achieve great things.
“You got to be a team player. So, whether it’s an athlete in a cage fight, although the sport is one on one, we have a whole team around us - coaches, trainers, team mates, you have to be able to work as a team because it takes a village. Same thing in the business world of ‘The Apprentice.’ Lean on your team and you have to be able to work well with them,” Bhullar said.
“The remaining candidates need to keep plugging away. You are almost there. You’ve earned your way to where you are right now. Keep believing in yourself. It has been tough. Chatri is not easy because he has been known as a tough leader, but you’re there for a reason. You wanted to be there, so go get it.”
“The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition” brings together 16 candidates hand picked from around the world to compete in a series of business challenges, and for the first time ever in the franchise, physical tasks that will test their mind, body, and spirit. Each week, at least one candidate is eliminated, until only one is left standing, earning the right to be called “The Apprentice.”
At stake is a US $250,000 job offer to work directly under ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong as his protege in business. The winner will also be named ONE’s new Chief of Staff.
Bhullar, who says he has a passion for martial arts and the world of business, believes the winning candidate should be motivated enough to be willing to risk it all. At the same time, he says that candidates need to approach problems with intelligent solutions, in order to win.
“First, you need to be tough, and deal with adversities and challenges. Secondly, you have to be smart, meaning if you keep banging your head against the wall expecting different results, that’s not smart. You gotta be able to go around the wall, over the wall, that type of thing,” Bhullar said.
“You have to be driven. Having drive is unmatched. You can outwork anybody and that is very important. Work ethics is connected directly with drive, be it sports or business, it’s the only way you get to the top. Never be satisfied and be always hungry and have an unrelenting drive.”
Bhullar is scheduled to challenge Filipino-American star Brandon “The Truth” Vera for the ONE Heavyweight World Title in the headline bout at ONE: DANGAL, a tape delayed event from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore that airs on Saturday, 15 May.
The 34-year-old says that although his training camp has been extremely difficult, that the secret to his success has been training his mind to become stronger than his body. Bhullar says everyone seeking success in anything should do the same.
“The mind is very powerful and it is a muscle. So the more you push through things, the more stamina you build, the more mental strength you build, and the easier it becomes. It becomes a habit of being able to push through,” Bhullar said.
“We are creatures of habit and that’s what it is. To have the mental strength and fortitude, to have the muscle and then you can go further and further and do it more. You just have to make the decision to do it. What we say as athletes, get comfortable with the uncomfortable. It is a mindset.”

IPL 2020: Mandeep Singh, living his father’s dream | Cricket News
New Post has been published on https://jordarnews.in/ipl-2020-mandeep-singh-living-his-fathers-dream-cricket-news/
IPL 2020: Mandeep Singh, living his father’s dream | Cricket News
CHANDIGARH: During his last days on the hospital bed, cricketer Mandeep Singh’s father Hardev Singh just wanted to see his son in action on the cricket field. It gave Hardev immense joy to watch his son smash the bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) in Dubai. Hardev, 68, passed away on October 23 at a hospital in Mohali. The 68-year-old was suffering from liver cirrhosis. “The TV in his room in the hospital was not working for some reason. He got so angry with the staff. He told me to ask them to fix it. ‘Kings XI is going to play today, and I want to see Mandy in action’ father used to insist. The hospital staff was very understanding and they immediately replaced the TV set,” Mandeep’s elder brother Harvinder Singh told TOI. Interestingly, Hardev, a former athletics coach with the Punjab sports department, was initially averse to his son opting for cricket as a profession. Harvinder too was into cricket and was a promising fast bowler, but he had to bid goodbye to his passion due to financial strain. “I played competitive cricket till class 10. My father, despite being an athletics coach himself, never liked cricket or any sports. He used to say, ‘Iss desh mey khiladi bhukhe mar jate hai’ (Athletes in this country die because of hunger). He insisted that I should focus on studies,” said Harvinder, who is a doctor by profession. “In my case, the other factor was our financial condition. I used to train at Burlton Park in Jalandhar and the fees there was Rs 500 per month. Back then, it was too much for us to pay. So I backed out.” Mandeep, who is seven years younger to his brother, was head over heels into cricket. Hardev again was against his son’s choice. Mandeep’s coach, however, called up Harvinder and asked him to let the kid play. After that, Harvinder stepped up for his younger brother after having a big fight with his father. “It was the most intense fight that ever took place in our family. He was not happy with Mandy pursuing cricket. I was adamant that he must play because he is terrific. After a week, he agreed; that too with several conditions,” Harvinder said with a huge laugh. “In 2004, I remember Mandy was selected for a U-15 camp at NCA. My father gifted him a bat, which costed around Rs 1,800. It was the last penny he invested for Mandy’s cricket.” When Mandeep started performing and scoring big runs, Hardev’s interest in cricket also grew manifold times. In 2010, Mandeep was appointed Indian U-19 team’s vice-captain for the ICC U-19 World Cup. “When Mandy was picked for India U-19, my father was over the moon. There were so many people outside our house. Everyone was congratulating him, and I can never forget his beaming smile. “Mandeep went on to play for different franchises in the IPL, but my father’s main concern was ‘ye India kab khelega?’ (when is Mandeep going to play for India?). In 2016, when Mandy made his debut for India against Zimbabwe in Harare, my father cried a lot. We have never seen him so emotional,” said Harvinder. Mandeep Singh was a regular in India’s limited-overs squad, but during the 2017 IPL he was diagnosed with disc prolapse and went to London for a spine surgery. The injury halted Mandeep’s progress, and he was off the radar of the national selectors. After coming back from injury, Mandeep was made captain of the Punjab Ranji team. So far, he has led from the front and amassed 602 runs at an average of 54.72 in the 2018-19 season. A match-winning 90 against Delhi on Feroz Shah Kotla’s underprepared pitch was probably the most daring knock of that season. The next season Mandeep scored 706 runs, including two centuries and four half-centuries. He was the top run-getter for Punjab. The 28-year-old was in line for an India ‘A’ call-up, but the pandemic put paid to his hopes. Hardev Singh’s dying wish was to see his son play for India again. When Mandeep heard about his father’s demise, he was inconsolable and wanted to fly back immediately. But his brother convinced him that he must stay in Dubai and complete the IPL. Hours after his father died, an emotional Mandeep came out to play for his franchise. His stay at the crease was brief, but he won the hearts of millions. Even Sachin Tendulkar lauded Mandeep for turning up to play despite suffering such a great tragedy. “I told Mandy not to come back. I told him our father was a fighter and he should stay there (in UAE) and fight for his team. Father saab wanted Mandeep to don the Indian team jersey once again and he shouldn’t forget that. He should focus on making a comeback. That will be a fitting tribute to our father,” signed off Harvinder.

Harbhajan Singh Personal Life
Early days
Tumblr media
Harbhajan Singh Plaha was born to Sardar Sardev Singh Plaha and Avtar Kaur on July 3, 1980, in Jalandhar, Punjab. His father was a businessman and owned a ball bearing factory, while his mother Avtar Kaur was a housewife. Harbhajan has five sisters. He was in line to inherit the family business but his dad forced him to concentrate on cricket.
Before training under coach Davinder Arora as a spin bowler, Bhajji wanted to become a batsman and was training at Charanjit Singh Bhullar. It was after Bhullar’s death that Harbhajan started moving towards off-spin bowling. It was his father who wanted his son to don the national jersey one day.
Domestic career
Harbhajan Singh made his domestic debut for the state of Punjab Under-16s team at the age of 15 in 1995 against Haryana. With 32 wickets and 96 runs with his hands, he was selected for the North Zone Under-16s team and was also asked to join the national Under-19 youth team for an ODI game against South Africa.
Later, Harbhajan was promoted to the Punjab Under-19s and made his first-class debut against Services during Ranji Trophy 1997-98. Bhajji later represented India in the Under-19 World Cup in January 1998.

After injury, his form was on and off. Singh started struggling with his form in 2006 and was dropped after failing to perform in the 2007 World Cup. He however helped India win the ICC World Twenty20 tournament. Throughout the season, he gave many match-winning performances.  From 2007 to 2010, he couldn’t maintain fix spot in Indian squad. He made his comeback to World Cup team of 2011 thanks to his bowling great in IPL. But after the World Cup he was fighting with his form as a result couldn’t kept his position fix in the Indian roaster.
IPL Stint
Tumblr media
Harbhajan found success in his career’s later half in Indian cricketing carnival. Yes, we are talking about his stint in IPL. He played as a vital clog in the success of the Mumbai franchise who had won the title four times. Bhajji was a regular starter of the team since 2008 and even captained the side. He bagged 24 wickets in the 2013 season. After a decade long association, Mumbai Indians released him and he signed a deal with Chennai Super Kings. Harbhajan became a bowler who would be more economical with some quick wickets in IPL.
Harbhajan Singh Controversies
Tumblr media
No matter he was one of the spin wizard of India, Harbhajan’s career was riddled with many controversies. After the ugly spat between Sourav Ganguly and coach Greg Chappell in 2005, Bhajji openly spoke against the coach and defended his skipper. Harbhajan said that Chappell’s methods were strict and there was ‘fear and insecurity’ in the camp. Later in 2008, he was founded in one more controversy known as ‘Monkeygate’. Harbhajan was charged with a Level 3 charged for racially abusing Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds when he allegedly called the all-rounder ‘monkey’.
Harbhajan as said earlier is one of the famous players in IPL. The season of 2008 will be remembered for Harbhajan slapping Sreesanth. Bhajji was leading the Mumbai Indians (MI) slapped Sreesanth after the match between MI and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Mohali. He was not only fined his match fee for the game but he was suspended for the remaining games.

He appeared in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s Indian promotion, Ring Ka King.
From 2016, Harbhajan hasn’t donned national jersey in any format and it seems a difficult road for a comeback. He made a few steps to get back but could never seal his place in the Indian team. His last international match was against United Arab Emirates in the Asia Cup in 2016. Although he has not announced retirement, his career is all but over. With Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, R Ashwin handling the responsibility of the spin department, its next to hard for Harbhajan to make a comeback. Remember folks, he is 38 and hope of comeback is extremely dim.
