Lisztober #21: Rome, Urbe Caput Mundi

Maidchen, do you remember when we swore not to make any more 08/15 goth music? Too late ;) So now, we're back to doing what we used to do before the Maidchen existed. Gothic Clubhits Vol. 147.

My dear colleagues managed to conjure up at least something with a fat beat from my really boring draft, otherwise we would probably have delivered one of the snore-iest songs of the month. Thanks to the sampled church choir, you can at least wake up ;)

Another topic I was afraid of, @franzliszt-official In general, the next few themes are extremely challenging. It's hard to think of the usual Maidchen-Tralala (but we'll try again with Flowers of Hungary before the world sinks into melancholy afterwards), let alone Franz-Thirst. I mean, we could. If I manage to make a hot song about Boulogne-sur- mer, we'll go straight to hell. The only person who would get sleepless nights of longing from this would be Lina Ramann.

But then,  I'll feel bad towards Franz and all that. Roman Catholic Guilt. Let's see. Day by day.

So, Franz, we need to talk. About your taste in women. I mean, we've already made a few advances, but we're probably not ‘special interest’ enough. I mean, you've had a lot of women in your life, but the only longer relationships worth mentioning are Marie and Carolyne. And while Emo -Marie will always be remembered for her hysterical fainting and jealousy attacks, Carolyne is the one you actually wanted to marry. In other words, the crazy Catholic catlady who talked everyone into the ground, smoked up their stalls and unceremoniously rewrote Franz's essays (and probably Chopin's biography too).

Carolyne ALWAYS knew what was „best“ for Liszt, more than he did. And for his children. And you, Franz, you let yourself be talked into it. If Blandine and Cosima hadn't enjoyed the upbringing of Carolyne's tattagirlish freak governess, but had stayed with Franz's mother Anna, who knows, maybe Cosima wouldn't have turned out so shitty later on? But you loved Carolyne anyway, you did your thing in Weimar despite all opposition, you dreamed of getting married even though Carolyne was still married and you even tried the Pope, who cancelled the wedding last minute. It was actually supposed to take place on Liszt's 50th birthday in Rome. Oh, boy.

Some people despair and become whimsical, like Carolyne, who stayed behind in Rome, Franz just carried on and shagged his pupils in Weimar (And, boy, Olga Janina. WTF? I really want to write another song about this. Does it fit into a theme? I will find some!) Short summary.
