#Clothes are hard

Playing paper dolls with Karlach and Tav for Modern AU stuff - again I'm not strictly plotting anything here, just puttering around with outfits and vibes. They live in a modern version of Faerûn (rather than in any real-world place.) I have no idea how the game-events tie together or adapt but they're... somewhere.

Karlach: Is coming out of a bad situation (jail or forced military service or both or however you want to look at it) and owns very little (she has her bike and whatever fits in the saddlebags and a backpack*.) I don't know if she has a job or what it is (she could be a cook or in firefighter training as I drew before, or something else, or she could be unemployed and picking up odd jobs, or she could perhaps even be on medical disability.) She likes leather, denim, and ass-kicking boots.

Tav: Works enough to buy herself quality stuff, but lives a sparse lifestyle, travels a lot for competitions and work, and most of what she owns is geared towards work (as a physical trainer/martial arts competitor.) She's very picky about texture and wears things until they completely fall apart. She likes cotton and linen and other light fabrics, but tolerates things that are smooth and form fitted.

They're both kindof gym rats and butch about most things (which maybe doesn't come across here in a lot of lighter/working outfits, I don't know.) These outfits with a little variation (some other shirts and such) are pretty much what both of them own.

*She's couch surfing until she moves in to Tav's apartment, most recently at Wyll's place. He doesn't mind her but is glad to have her out from underfoot. Yes they're u-hauling it, unfortunately circumstances are what they are, but for them it works out.

Long overdue attempts to figure out how Jacky's backpack works with the poncho. I like the natural shape of her poncho so I don't really even try to mix the two, but I'm gonna have to eventually because she always has it. Can't cheat and make it disappear in comic pages.

It can be long sleeves and jeans, a button up with the top 2 buttons undone, Anything! Just.. nothing inappropriate as this Fanart is BEFORE the time skip (*^^*)

Also, should I make his eyes Original Orchid™ or Flapjack Brown™? (People should not have given me ™ power lmao)

Styling a closet and shopping for clothes is so hard because I want to look like punk metal Goth, I wanna look like a Butch ms. Frizzle, I wanna look like a Icelandic hermit in a cozy sweater, I wanna look like a Viking merchant wife from 1256AD, I wanna look trendy modern hardass who's got her shit together, I wanna look timeless, I want to look effortless, I want to support small businesses, I want to look effortless, I want to support small businesses, I want to look classic, I wanna look ready for the revolution, I want to honor my roots, I want to throw on the same tee-shirt and jeans for 3 days in a row, I want to be warm, I want to be slutty, I want to be conscious of the vast web of industry that colors every sartorial choice i could make and all of this I have to manage on a budget of 17 bucks and some lint.

Really says something about the dire state of offerings for men interested in sewing their own clothes that even searching things like "interesting men's clothing patterns" brings up articles with links to four or five whole websites that primarily offer admittedly nice but practically identical patterns for making button-ups and work pants and maybe a varsity/bomber jacket if you're lucky.

(Branching out into historical costuming for everyday wear is like your one shot at variation, and even then, the ratio of men's to women's patterns on every website is frustrating to say the least.)

Patternmakers as a trans man I am begging you. Give me a little more to work with here.
