Climate Refugees: A Global Problem Requires a Global Solution
Tumblr media
As the climate crisis intensifies, we are witnessing a growing number of climate refugees. These are people forced to flee their homes due to droughts, floods, rising sea levels, and other catastrophic events linked to climate change.
The Scale of the Problem: According to UN estimates, the number of climate refugees could reach 200 million by 2050.
Humanitarian Crisis: Climate refugees are deprived of shelter, food, water, medical care, and education.
Social Conflicts: The influx of refugees can lead to social conflicts, instability, and violence.
Fleur, a refugee from the African country of Togo, gave an interview to Allahtra TV about the difficulties of being a refugee. "In 2015, Europe was experiencing a migration crisis. A huge influx of refugees from the African continent and the Middle East poured into European Union countries. People were seeking a decent life and good social protection and found themselves in extremely difficult life situations. To this day, many people have no social protection, are not legally protected from violence and inequality. Many are in refugee camps and see no way out of the situation. People who have accepted refugees in their countries also don't know what to do, what to do, and how to help. A huge number of conflicts arise, caused by the consumerist format of society."
Fleur talks about how you need to behave in order to adapt to a new country, how to help yourself not to break in spirit, but to find new opportunities and inspiration to live and build a life from a clean slate.
Fleur is currently writing a book about how she successfully managed to build her life, find a job, and most importantly, friends. First of all, you need to get rid of consumerism, start working on yourself, and accept change with a positive attitude. Fleur notes that there are people everywhere and everyone is ready to help and support.
The climate situation is becoming more complex every day, and there is an understanding that there will be even more climate refugees. We need to learn from the experience of those who have already become refugees and take measures so that people can understand each other and accept each other as family and loved ones. This is only possible by changing the format of society from consumerist to creative.
As respected Egon Cholakian said in his Extraordinary Appeal to Biden, Xi Jinping, and Putin on Allahtra TV: "the conditions are already in place for people to move to a new territory, taking into account a democratic approach, not with coercion but with the free will of people, taking into account all human rights. People must feel like People. They must feel that their life is valuable, important, and protected. That they are receiving real rights and freedoms.

The melting of glaciers
Due to global warming, the massive glaciers at the poles are beginning to melt. If this continues, sea levels could rise by up to 3 meters (approximately 9.8 feet), leading to the submersion of low-lying areas. Many people will become climate refugees and be forced to move, while inland populations will become overcrowded. The melting of glaciers also has a serious impact on surrounding ecosystems. Habitat and population numbers will decrease, and there is a high risk of widespread famine and species extinction.
Reducing the amount of greenhouse gases is an effective way to stop the melting of glaciers.

Photos by @amivitale / Today is World Water Day, a day to contemplate the complex relationship humanity has with this life-giving substance. In Bangladesh, scientists predict that climate change could lead to a rise in sea levels that would flood at least 17 percent of Bangladesh and create more than 13 million refugees by 2050. Monsoon rains in the region are becoming more concentrated in a shorter period, causing a cruel combination of more extreme floods and longer periods of drought. In the capital of Dhaka, the impact is already being felt, with some half a million migrants arriving in the city each year. These “climate change refugees” are pouring mostly into squalid slums and the biggest reason for moving is environmental degradation. The situation is at once ironic and unjust. The poorest are the most affected by climate change but they are the least responsible for it. Whether it becomes one of the great human tragedies of our time, or a model for the future depends on these choices; what happens next is in our hands. There Goes Gerald Today is Earth Day and I thought I’d try and draw some attention to the plight of small island nations that are struggling with the effects of climate change, from Polynesia to the Maldives to the Solomon Islands and yes, even Singapore. A lot of people think climate change is coming. The truth is, it’s already here. Small island nations in particular feel its effects every day — effects such as the loss of coastal land, salinification of freshwater, acidification of seawater, increasingly frequent storms and worsening droughts, and loss of biodiversity. It threatens the very survival of the inhabitants, their way of life, their food and water sources, and their culture. Unfortunately, many small island nations have low populations and no money to protect their islands or to move their people off the islands. Their future is pretty grim if change doesn’t happen right now. Send this to someone or talk to your kids about this. Then find out more about climate change and what we can do to change it! #EarthDay2020 #EarthDay #smallisland #climagechange #climateaction #globalwarming #risingsealevels #climatecrisis #climaterefugees #Connect2Earth #EasterIsland #Maldives #Polynesia #ChangeClimateChange (at Easter Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_SLpBcH-AH/?igshid=52a1f130y5f

The faithful devotees of the Immaculate Concepcion walks around the town of Guiuan in Eastern Samar, Philippines a month after Typhoon Haiyan made its first landfall in the Philippines in 2013. Over 6,000 people were killed and over 1000 are still missing due to the strongest wind speed ever recorded that triggered flash floods and a series of deadly tidal surges that devastated those living by the coastline and waterways. As we commemorate this dreadful day today and as the 23rd Climate Change Conference happen in Bonn, Germany, we urge world leaders and all concerned organizations to move towards a sustainable and clean source of energy for the next generation in order to significantly reduce carbon emissions that causes a warmer climate. _____________________________________ Outtake from Signos - stories of those displaced by climate change. ©V.Villafranca/Signos/MapaBooks #haiyan #yolandaph #storm #philippines #climaterefugees #climatechangeisreal #climatechange #signos #everydayclimatechange #everydayphilippines #everydayeverywhere #mapabooks (at Pagasa Weather RADAR Station, Guiuan Eastern Samar)

I just learned the difference via @rescueorg A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her home because of war, violence or persecution, often without warning An asylum seeker is someone who is also seeking international protection from dangers in his or her home country, but whose claim for refugee status hasn’t been determined legally. An immigrant is someone who makes a conscious decision to leave his or her home and move to a foreign country with the intention of settling there A migrant is someone who is moving from place to place (within his or her country or across borders), usually for economic reasons such as seasonal work. #climaterefugees #wewelcomerefugees #standwithrefugees #withrefugees #syriarefugees #istandwithrefugees #refugeesupport #refugeescamp #veteransbeforerefugees #helprefugees #norefugees #picsartrefugees #supportrefugees #rohingyarefugees #stepwithrefugees #refugeesnotwelcome #welcomerefugees #refugees #refugeestories #refugeesweclcome #refugeeswelcomehere #syrianrefugees #helprefugeesuk #refugeeswelcome #refugeescrisis #teamrefugees #everydayrefugees #refugeesarewelcomehere #refugeesarewelcome #refugeesgr (at Levittown, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3dUjerBwhs/?igshid=1hvpnuksev161

Photo by @amivitale. Tomorrow, April 9, join in and be a part of help move the climate forward by watching the livestream of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (@greensofa_betd) at energydialogue.berlin/livestream (Link in profile). The goal of the conference is to usher in a safe, affordable and environmentally responsible global energy transition. I'm speaking at 9am European Time alongside Mary Robinson, first woman president of Ireland, chair of The Elders and a personal hero, and Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of @Siemens. We need people everywhere to take part. Here, life in the remote #desert town of Boujbeja, Mali, challenges the Arab Moors who live there but also offers them peace from the rest of the world. "Boujbeja" means the luck of the desert, but after a severe #drought in 1966, they have been fighting the constant push of the sands and must dig 70 meters under ground to get water. As the climate changes, and earth grows hotter, droughts are becoming more severe, making the quest for water more and more difficult. We need a global energy transition now to help curb the effects of greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere. Listen in on the @greensofa_betd livestream to learn how you can help.
