Art was worried.
He watched as you ran off the court, your hand over your mouth as you tried for the life of you not to puke all over the clay court. Your opponent stood there frustrated, arms crossed over her chest, a scowl evident on her face.
Minutes passed and the murmuring of the crownd began to get louder due to your absence. Art looked around, his left hand scratching his head, a gold wedding band reflecting in the sun. No sign of you yet.
He was worried. He warned you about this happening, the pros and cons about playing in the tournament. You were stubborn, determined to power through because you’ve encountered worse. This was a piece of cake. Being your husband, he supported you but mostly, he just wanted to avoid your bad side.
Art glanced at the door you disappeared behind, his leg shaking in anticipation. You still hadn’t returned. The umpire was about to call the game. You were going to lose by default after being close to winning the whole goddamned tournament.
Fuck it, he thought and stood up to go through that fucking door. His heart racing as he pushed people from your team, muttering excuse me and thank you or whatever the fuck they needed to hear.
He reached the closed bathroom door, leaning closer to hear your retching as your stomach rebelled against you. His knuckles knocked on the bathroom door, as a courtesy and then pushed the door open.
Inside the bathroom, you were hunched over the toilet, clearly in distress. Art's heart clenched at the sight. He quickly kneeled down beside you, placing a gentle hand on your back.
"Hey sweetheart," he said softly, trying to offer some comfort. "Are you okay? What's going on?"
You looked up, tears in your eyes, and managed to croak out, "You were right,” you admitted. “I need a break.”
Art's heart sank as he saw you so distressed and vulnerable. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his comforting embrace. You felt a little better, the nausea still lingered around your throat but the urge was gone.
“You need to rest,” he whispered into your hair, sound muffled. “It’s starting to take a toll on you.
You sighed, tired, sweaty and defeated. “I know. Just take me home.”
Patrick burst through the door, concern and disappointment etched all over his place. “What the fuck is going on? Why aren’t you playing?”
You rolled your eyes as Art helped you stand up on your shaky legs. “I need a break Pat,” you said, leaning on your husband for support. “I need a long ass break.”
“A break?” He asked, crossing his arms in disbelief. “When have you ever taken a break?”
“Fuck off, Patrick,” Art grumbled at his best friend, turned your coach. “She needs a fucking break.”
Patrick scoffed, the sound making Art’s grip tighten around you. “How long is this break supposed to be?”
“9 months.”
Patrick's eyes widened in shock as the weight of your words sank in. He looked from you to Art, realization dawned on him. You shifted uncomfortably, wanting to just go home and sleep for the rest of the year.
"You're pregnant?" he exclaimed, his voice filled with a mixture of surprise and understanding.
You nodded, leaning more heavily on Art for support. "Yes, I am."
Patrick's expression softened, his initial frustration melting away as he realized the gravity of the situation. "I... I had no idea.”
“Now you do,” Art rolled his eyes, his own concern for you evident but the annoyance toward Patrick even more prominent. "I just need to take her home before she throws up all over you.”
Patrick stepped aside, offering you a supportive smile. "Congratulations, you fuckers. Take all the time you need. We'll handle the tournament."

Okay but how insane does Kate go when she wins her first Olympic medal in France on a damn clay court?
Clay courts and Kate Sharma are not a match made in heaven. She hates everything about it right down to the fact that it makes her shoes dirty.
She does love one thing about it though: She convinced Anthony to enter mixed doubles with her.
“Kate, babe, we wouldn’t qualify. I haven’t played pro tennis in nearly a year.”
“It’ll be fun.” Kate hummed in his ear as they lay in bed. “We’ll be great.”
“I haven’t even played at Roland Garros for at least five years.”
“We can galivant around Paris. See if we can break one of those cardboard beds. I want to share this with you.”
Anthony groaned, “Damnit! How do you always convince me to do this shit?”
“I’m very pretty.” Kate hummed, “I think it helps.”
Two days later it’s announced that Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma have formed a mixed doubles team to qualify for the Olympics. Team GB is desperately hoping they can do it because god, what a story. Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton. Tom Dorset should be the king of British tennis, and he is really, but Anthony Bridgerton is such journeyman. It’ll be the cherry on top of his career and his relationship ship with Kate Sharma is free advertising. They’d been hoping Kate might relent and do doubles with Tom Dorset but Anthony Bridgerton? Even better.
Everyone expects Kate to win Women’s singles. She’s won every slam so far this year, her form’s never been better. This is her chance to win a gold medal and Kate would be feeling the pressure. And on her least favourite surface as well. But it’s hard to feel it with Anthony beside her. With him cheering her on in the stands. It’s exhausting, managing singles and doubles but doubles doesn’t feel like work.
It feels like her and Anthony messing around at home. She loves seeing the joy on his face when he pops up with an overhead smash that has their opponents ducking out of the way. She loves sitting beside him at the changeover, Team GB written on his chest in their matching uniforms. She loves whistling when Anthony squats in front of her as the crowd roars with laughter and Anthony rolls his eyes.
“I know this is really serious; but this is actually a lot of fucking fun this year.”
For both of them the Olympics haven’t been a happy hunting ground previously, and in a way clay courts have been even less so, but this feels almost easy. The crowd doesn’t feel like pressure. Their families sat in the box together cheering with the rest of the crowd, it finally feels like Kate can feed off the energy.
“You can just tell me I was right.” Kate kissed him quickly as she adjusted her hat, chuckling as the crowd cheered for it.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Anthony sighed, standing up, shielding her from the sun. “Let’s go get into the final.”
“Ah he wants his gold medal, now! After I had to drag him here.”
It feels almost surreal, standing on the top step of the podium with Anthony’s arm around her waist with medals hanging around their necks as the national Anthem plays. Feels even more surreal when Anthony leans down as kisses her with a chuckle on his lips.
“I love you.”
Kate nodded, hugging him tightly, “Love you too.”
“I’m going to marry you.”
Kate could hardly breathe “Ask me properly then.”
“Soon.”
Kate does win the gold in the Singles as well as it turns out. The very next day she’s back on the top step of the podium and three gold medals hang in their house but her favourite one is the one they won together. The one that brought them both so much joy.

Morning Briefing: Far Right Prepares for Trump's Appearance at Miami Courthouse
Morning Briefing: Supporters of former president Donald Trump are planning mass protests at the Wilkie D. Ferguson U.S. Courthouse in Miami, Florida, and researchers have reportedly “identified individual users who are threatening violence against Trump’s perceived enemies and at least one who has explicitly said they are planning on attending with guns.”
At least two GOP members of Congress “used alarmingly warlike rhetoric in response to the federal charges filed against Donald Trump,” including Rep. Clay Higgins and Rep. Andy Biggs.
The calls to action and threats have been “amplified on right-wing media sites and have been met by supportive responses from social media users and cheers from crowds, who have become conditioned over several years by Mr. Trump and his allies to see any efforts to hold him accountable as assaults against him.”
Data from social media platforms reveal that “references to ‘civil war’ more than doubled on alternative social media platforms frequented by the American far right the very day that Trump posted on Truth Social about the indictment,” according to an analysis by the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE).
During the past few days, prominent and influential members of the far right and right-wing media have called for mass protests at the federal courthouse in Miami in support of the former president.
Tumblr media
Wayne Allyn Root, the far right pundit and conspiracy theorist, wrote at World Net Daily that the “Democrats in power and the people who run our government are evil. Demonic. Satanic,” and add that “this is war. This is life or death. This is the end of America if we don't fight fire with fire.”
Ali Alexander, the far right activist, wrote on Telegram that “if we don't have LAW, we shouldn't give them ORDER.” Alexander also wrote that if “Republicans do not do something unprecedent, we’ll all hang,” and added that “everyone should see Members of Congress sweating in the heat with ordinary supporters.”
Laura Loomer, the far right conspiracy theories and failed Florida Congressional candidate, promoted the protest at the federal courthouse on the InfoWars program War Room with Owen Shroyer, and Kari Lake, the 2020 election denier and failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate, promoted her plans to attend the protest on Steve Bannon’s War Room.
While it has been reported that the Proud Boys, the far right violent extremist street gang, publicly displayed “apathy towards Trump’s legal woes sets them apart from the wider far-right extremism world,” the Miami chapter of the Proud Boys promoted the Loomer’s protest in their Telegram channel.
The violent rhetoric of the far right is “echoing among some Donald Trump sympathizers ahead of the former president’s appearance in a Miami court,” and both federal and local law enforcement “assigned to domestic terrorism squads are actively working to identify any possible threats.”
Advisors of the former president are reportedly “quietly expressing some concern that the pro-Trump protesters already assembling in front of the courthouse aren’t helping the former president’s case,” and one advisor predicted there is “going to be a disaster” and there will be people who “don’t want to be peaceful.”

In at least two states across America governments are trying to shutter public libraries in response to legal action attempting to overturn bans on books conservatives oppose, while one Republican U.S. Congressman is calling public libraries “liberal grooming centers.”
One Texas county is considering shutting down all its libraries in response to a judge ordering books some locals oppose to be returned to its shelves, as NCRM was among the first to report. A federal judge ordered Llano County to return books with LGBTQ and race-related content to library shelves, after seven local residents who wanted the books available to the public filed a First and Fourteenth Amendment lawsuit, saying removal of the books violated their civil rights.
In response to the judge ordering books be returned to shelves, Llano County officials will meet on Thursday to consider not only shutting down all its libraries, but terminating the employment of everyone who works in those libraries.
In an even more vindictive move, one Republican House lawmaker in Missouri was so enraged over a lawsuit from the ACLU, filed on behalf of the Missouri Association of School Librarians and the Missouri Library Association, that he pushed through legislation that defunds all public libraries across the state.
READ MORE: ‘Fascism Plain and Simple’: Critics Blast Trump for Saying America’s ‘Biggest Problem’ Is Its Own ‘Sick Radical People’
That bill passed on Tuesday, stripping more than $4.5 million budgeted for public libraries from the state’s budget should it be signed into law.
The ACLU is attempting to have a court “declare Senate Bill 775 unconstitutional, a bill that has resulted in over 300 books getting banned from school libraries, many of which include LGBTQ characters or racial justice themes,” as Heartland Signal reports.
SB 775 was signed into law last year. It “made it a crime to provide minors with sexually explicit visual material, leading librarians across the state to remove anything from their collections that they thought could be considered criminal,” NPR reported. “Librarians or other school officials could face up to a year in jail or a $2,000 fine for violating the policy.”
Missouri House budget committee chairman Rep. Cody Smith “argued that the state should not ‘subsidize’ the lawsuit with government aid. But the Missouri Library Association, a nonprofit representing Missouri’s librarians, put out a statement stating they are not providing any funding for this lawsuit, as the ACLU is aiding them pro bono.”
Adding another wrinkle to the issue, a Tuesday MSNBC opinion piece notes: “The problem, though, is that Missouri Republicans aren’t the only ones mounting up against libraries. Late last month, Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., tweeted: ‘Over time, American communities will build beautiful, church owned public-access libraries. I’m going to help these churches get funding. We will change the whole public library paradigm. The libraries regular Americans recall are gone. They’ve become liberal grooming centers.'”
Pointing to an NBC News report on Llano County considering to shutter its libraries, former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance, a professor of law at The University of Alabama School of Law tweeted, “Just like public pools were closed in the south after desegregation was ordered.”
READ MORE: ‘Straight Pride’ Organizer Indicted by Federal Grand Jury for Alleged Role in January 6 Insurrection
Morgan Fairchild, the well-known actress and activist, weighed in saying, “I never want to hear another word from a Republican about Freedom, when they defund public libraries, a concept started in US by Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin, so that common citizens could better themselves.”
Journalist Roland Martin, a Texas native and author of four books including “White Fear: How the Browning of America Is Making White Folks Lose Their Minds,” served up an even more passionate response.
“I keep telling y’all the @GOP is simply STUPID. How in the hell do you defund all of the public libraries in a state? These are truly illiterate assholes,” he tweeted.
Award winning novelist, short story writer, playwright, poet, literary critic, professor, and editor Joyce Carol Oates declared defunding libraries and diversity initiatives, childcare, and pre-kindergarten programs, “sad but not surprising.”
“Republicans seem bent upon destroying the commonweal like public libraries,” she said on Twitter, adding: “their goal appears to be privatizing everything as in a feudal society in which serfs are subhuman, mere labor.”
Former Missouri Democratic U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill offered a multiple choice tweet:
“A primer on Mo GOP: A) outlawed all abortions from moment of conception for rape victims B) voted to allow children to openly carry AR-15s C) defunded public libraries
D) All of the above. Ding ding ding (right answer)”

What is the opposite to werewolves? Beasts of the night, the moon and pack mentality
Some would say Humans, Vampires out of rivalry for the night, but what if I told you it was in fact beasts of the Savannah? Sandy beige pelts and manes as thick as the forests wolves run through? With eyes wide and amber, glowing with the stretches of the Earth under the unforgiving sunlight? A place Wolves wouldn't dare venture without plans and knowledge. Where paws a large as dinner plates pass over sandy grasslands, venturing miles of their homelands to protect their families from the more determined of creatures.
Where the ritual to become a beast of the night is done upon pregnancy, a shaman that is blessed by the gifts of Abedemak The War God but also Fertility God. To share the bleeding and to be birthed within the same week of this, guarantees the powers of the Lion God within the nature of the newborn. Proven by the fast growth of claws and the furless tailbone extending. Upon such successes, rituals and festivals are thrown for the women, praised to the high heavens and held with nothing but reverence for their gifts upon the world. The men blessed and fed the first meats of kills to thank them for protecting their family in the hours of need.
It's said these tribes folk are prideful as any lion and if not more, facing stronger, larger and plentiful of enemies but unlike Lion prides where the risks outweigh the pros of a singular catch. The blessing of Abedemek invigorates them. Taking on the mantle piece of fur, muscle and strength - with hunger in their gums and prey in their sights but they keep the wisdom and tactics of humanity in their minds. Extending in both length and height, weight and power - with claws and tails for balance. The Tribes folk welcome on the changes of Abedemek's gifts, a blessing from the Sun itself fuels their shifts and in turn
 They become unstoppable.
Running upon four legs and two, spear, dagger and bow - claws, fangs and might.
The bestial shifters of the Savannah, once more evolve - taking down the bodies of buffalo in sets of threes, not enough to diminish their supply but to let it heal for longer. With full adults being pulled to their homes, dissected and cleaned by the elders and women in training for becoming warriors - the meat is sun dried and salted. Shared amongst their bloodline and praised in sharing with the Lion God themselves.
Oluwayemisi, she stood tall amongst them all, learning from the Shaman since young to take their role when time came. It was a hard job, to keep the pride in faiths grip, but it wasn't undoable. With the voice of Abedemek flowing through her veins and his light in her bones - she spoke and worshiped with ease. Teaching with gentle motherhood and with the strength of a leader.
Even so, when she was given a vision upon the eve of celebration. Through the blood and plant mixtures in clay pots, her visions were vivid. A warning, a hellish sight of bloodshed and grief - but her vision cut with knowledge of a new beginning. Fate, was a realization of life, but she knew it wouldn't be long until it would come. To save her grief for another time, her youth was still hers
and with the warning given. She leads her Pride as she knew best. To make them thrive in happiness and to find their own ways
and hers, was with him. The latest warrior who has been making eyes upon her since he hit puberty and had his tenth victorious hunt.
They courted, they married, they gave each other their everything and they were blessed by Abedemek three times - until that fateful vision came true. Their newborn son, Osakwe - cherished like his brothers, Oyekunda and Olabisi , born before him and just as strong in their bloodline - the pride was attacked. Gunfire and violence, technology and weaponry that surpassed their own - though they couldn't withstand the physical monsters that they were. Death on both sides tipped the scales back and forth, but the damage was done upon a backup army of sorts. Poachers of their own tones and greed science. Questions that could have been answered if asked in the right manner
but no. Death on her tongue and Oluwayemisi promised her name to her love.
His rage sang with Abedemak's wrath - his war charge took several vehicles out. The fire high as his fangs bared, and his claws clenched through throats and spinal cord. His size doubled that of humans with their weaponry but it was not their machines that ceased the beast's rampage - but the pathetic and cowardly hostage holding. His son, the newest born - held within arms and threatened with a gun in his face. The crying was like nothing but knives in his heart - he could hear his eldest and second born roaring in defiance themselves but everyone else was mute. After all, death upon the females, these humans knew that they held the true power of these species

But they did not know of the power between giving names. Oluwayemisi --- held his jowls tight, bleeding from the tension but allowed his grief and promise to take his beatings in silence. When strapped down and chained up with his two other children, he watched them all retreat with needles and laughter on their faces as his son was taken away separately.
Rage rattled their bones.
They shared the same thoughts
the same promise, in blood and death.
Break free and find each other.
Oluwayemisi watched his children be taken apart. Separate tents and containment, handshakes given, and the engines roared to life to take them away from the bloody scene.
Oyekunda and Olabisi taken for science.
Oluwayemisi taken by the army.
Osakwe taken for trafficking.

[ad_1] Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal across the net one last time.Credit X The last chapter in one of the most fascinating tennis rivalries, between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, was played out in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday night. Forget the result, as Djokovic won 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the Six Kings Slam exhibition, for the tennis was riveting. For all those who have raved about Nadal’s ravishing forehand, it was on view, again. If one thought an exhibition match would only be about pleasantries, this one still produced sparks and tears. And when Djokovic said in an interview after the match: “Don’t leave tennis, man,” it was straight from the heart. This was not pretence or Djokovic faking it. He has been one of the most honest tennis professionals, and his words were almost like a plea to Nadal not to go away. Why? Would not the Serbian, who holds a 31-29 record against Nadal, be happy that his bitter rival is leaving? No, that is not the way these two competed on the ATP Tour and in Grand Slams. These were raw emotions, coming straight from the heart, as Djokovic knows that he too will not be there too long. For some belonging to this generation of tennis fans, who may have missed a few contests where the two superstars won a combined total of 46 Grand Slam titles, the farewell exhibition was laced with emotion. Djokovic was almost in tears when Roger Federer retired in 2022. He has always shown massive respect to opponents who troubled him. “I have the utmost respect for you,” he told Nadal. “Incredible athlete. Incredible person. I’d like to congratulate all your team and family on the amazing career.” These lines were not rehearsed. For his part, Nadal kept his emotions in check, fully aware this was his last meeting, his last dance, with a rival who has pushed him so hard. Tennis rivalries become even more beautiful when the combatants play with different styles – right hand and left hand. The contests between Nadal and Djokovic were spread across surfaces – hardcourt, clay, grass, and even indoors. Each was a test of skills and supremacy. The last chapter was not about the result, but how two players who defined grace and elan on court could produce dream moments one last time. “I’m going to miss almost everything,” said Nadal before he was presented a tennis racquet made of gold. “It’s been a dream come true to be able to play for almost 20 years. Having the chance to play in the best places in the world. It’s something I watched on TV as a kid. At the end, I realised my dream to become a pro tennis player and be a successful one. I can’t thank enough the support and love I received all around the world.” The Spaniard will play the Davis Cup final in Malaga next month, and singles may be out of question, given his dropping fitness levels and injuries. So, for all those who wanted to see the artist play singles one last time, Riyadh was fortunate to be the last destination. Missed it? You can still catch moments on YouTube. Highly acclaimed for its championship golf and elegant amenities, Mission Resort + Club has also established itself as a perfect destination for racquet sports enthusiasts. Whether you play tennis, pickleball, or beach tennis, they’ve got you covered. Nestled among the rolling hills of Central Florida's Lake County, the resort features six Har-Tru Green Clay tennis courts, a Laykold all-weather court, four pickleball courts, and beach tennis courts for singles and doubles. Take A Lesson Regardless of your talent level, there is a place for you to flourish as former Bolivian Davis Cup player Cesar Villarroel operates an academy. Listed among the Top 100 Tennis Coaches in the USA by Peterson's Tennis Camps and Clinics, Villarroel guides a team of three other professionals to assist him in offering private lessons and clinics in all three of the racquet disciplines. "We have a lot of programs at that we offer for the members and also for non-members alike," said Villarroel, who is longtime Director of Racquet Sports at the resort. "We host clinics and spend a significant part of the day providing private and semi-private lessons involving two players. so, bring a friend. Villarroel is a USPTA Elite professional instructor certified through the National Endurance Fitness Training Association and the Professional Tennis and Pickleball Registries. While tennis has been a dominant factor throughout his life, he is excited to be working in two other sports that have exploded in popularity worldwide in recent years. Mission Inn + Club Tennis Academy, led by Bolivian Davis Cup player Cesar Villarroel. Cardio Tennis "We also offer cardio tennis - and that is for players who want to get in better shape. It's not a lot of technique correction, it's mostly drills with intervals, five minutes at full speed then one minute rest. The goal is to get the heart rate going high and then slowing it down. It's a good workout. The average player probably burns at least 500 calories in a one-hour clinic." The Place For Pickleball And Beach Tennis Pickleball has been the fastest-growing participatory sport in the United States for the last three years. Beach tennis is now poised to take off in North America after surging in popularity throughout Europe, especially in Italy, Brazil and Spain. "With pickleball, assume that I have a clinic of eight players," said Villarroel. "I can teach them the basics in probably 40 minutes and then they will be able to play a match. So, they learn in one day what in tennis would take probably a month before you could take part in a rally. That explains the popularity of pickleball." Think of Pickleball as the intersection of ping pong, badminton, and tennis and was invented by three vacationers on Bainbridge Island near Seattle. Beach tennis, however, combines elements of tennis and volleyball and, as its name suggests, takes place on sand. The sport is now played in over 50 countries by more than half a million people. "Here in the United States, beach tennis has just started, and it's huge," said Villarroel. "One of our pros plays professional beach tennis, so we are creating a training center here and will offer complimentary clinics to grow interest and participation in this fun and healthy pursuit. Mission Resort + Club Resort Offers So Much To Do If you live in visit Central Florida or are planning a visit and want a memorable experience, then this is the perfect destination for you. More than 30,000 square feet of well-appointed indoor and outdoor event space is available for meetings, banquets, holiday parties, weddings, and special occasions. A Golfers Paradise Awaits Located in the town of Howey-in-the-Hills, Mission Resort + Club is just a 35-minute drive northwest of Orlando or an 80-minute drive northeast of Tampa, and it is home to two championship golf courses, which are wonderfully complementary. The El Campeón (The Champion) layout, built in 1917 by George O’Neil, is one of the oldest courses in the South with a classic design featuring unusually sharp elevation changes in the typically flat central Florida terrain. It plays host to multiple professional, college, and high school tournaments. Las Colinas (The Hills) was created in 1992 by former PGA Tour winner Gary Koch, and it lives up to its name with wide fairways rolling over gentle rises. Both courses feature undulating greens surrounded by tropical vegetation and incorporate large water hazards on many holes. Florida's Premier Golf Destination Resort If Tennis and Racquet Sports Is Part Of Your Plan, Then Cesar Villarroel Is Your Man! "Every week, we have 70-80 players on our tennis courts and, if you also count our clinics, that number is probably over 100 players every week," said Villarroel. “With 4 instructors and so many courts, we have room for more.” Early birds bear the summer heat and start playing as early as 6 a.m., and afternoon activities, including junior clinics, to introduce youngsters to the game. "We start teaching at seven in the morning and the last lesson of the day begins at seven in the evening because we are here to accommodate and exceed the needs of our resort guests and those who want to enjoy playing the games.” For more information, please visit missioninnresort.com/resort/activities/tennis Photos courtesy of Mission Resort + Club. Also, as to “why does Djokovic sometimes just lose a set?” No one really knows? Before he really started winning he’s just medically drop out of matches pretty often when he was losing. Some speculate he was just rage quitting but it could be that he really was injured/unwell. But like I said before he changed his diet and he got more fit and started winning more. So does he still have that perceived, fuck it I don’t lose I quit still in him that holds him back sometimes? Maybe? He might also want the pressure to be the underdog? He’s come back very often from being down so it’s like, if it works for him?
But also, many tennis players just let whole sets go because it’s a marathon not a sprint and they’d rather conserve their energy, the fitter players don’t mind the long matches. So not chasing down every ball like it’s you last is a good strategy if you know you can focus up and serve out the game later, why tire yourself out now?
Again Nadal is the odd one out, he is infamous for getting the ball no matter what, he will chase every ball like it’s his last. This is in fact a crazy thing to do*. But! It mentally destroys his opponents because in Thanos terms “all that for a drop of blood?” aka 1 point against Nadal can be an EFFORT and as the match goes on it runs players down mentally and physically. **
But also, this means Nadal is so, so hard on his body compared to most. He’s constantly injured because he just can’t stop won’t stop. He’s a talented and smart player but he’s a beast of an athlete, when he started it was theorized he’d be retired by 25 (remember he went pro at like 16-17) because wtf kid stop. It was also commented that he would “keep winning French Opens until he is 60” before he won his first because he was so good at clay tournaments even before he got to the French. As his speed and mobility slowly started to deteriorate as he got older he became more technical, so when people say “Prime Nadal” they are talking about him ages like 20-24 where he’s insanely fast ***

(Also remember, on clay you need to know how to slide because clay is slippery, many good hard court players just fall constantly on clay. You can slide on hard court and grass with practice, you HAVE to slide on clay, it’s one of the reasons why Nadal is peerless on that surface. It’s also theorized that the reason why Nadal always wins to French is because at Roland Garros, the stadium where the FO is played, centre court (the main court) has 12 extra feet of playing space behind the baseline (32 feet compared to most with 20 feet) and if Nadal is playing the FO he’s playing at centre court because $$ so if Nadal wants to chase the ball he has the room to do so, see* for what happens when he runs out of room.)

Wild watching nadal keep chasing after the ball like that, i never expect him to be able to get to it in time
