round up // NOVEMBER 20
Hi, I’m tired. Actually, my friend Celeste created a piece of art that puts the emphasis needed on that sentiment:
I’m very tired. November felt like it was three years and also felt like it went by in a blink and also I’m not sure where October ended and November began—how does time work like that? (I’ve yet to see Tenet, but maybe that will explain it.) But like Michael Scott, somehow I manage, and lately it’s been like this:
Late-night Etsy scrolling. Browsing beautiful, non-big-box-store artwork is very calming just before I go to bed. I’d recommend Etsy stores like Celeste’s chr paperie shop, which I know from experience is full of great Christmas gift ideas.
Taking a day off of work to do laundry. I’m not sure if it’s more #adulting that I did that or that I was excited to do that.
Eating Ghiradelli chocolate chips straight from the bag. I actually don’t recommend this as a healthy option, but this is also not a health blog.
Watching lots and lots of ‘80s movies. One day I’ll ask a therapist why this decade of films is so comforting for me despite its many flaws, but for now I’m just rolling with it.
Reading. Have you heard of this? It’s a form of entertainment but doesn’t require screens—wild!
Memes. All good Pippin “Fool of a” Took jokes are welcome here.
Leaning into the Christmas spirit by ordering that Starbucks peppermint mocha, making plans to watch everything in that TCM Christmas book I haven’t seen, and keeping the lights on my hot pink tinsel tree on all day as I work from home.
This month’s Round Up is full of stuff that made me smile and stuff that sucked me into its world—I think they’ll do the same for you, too.
November Crowd-Pleasers
Sister Act (1992)
If in four years you aren’t in an emotional state to watch election results roll in, I recommend watching Whoopi Goldberg pretend to be a nun for 100 minutes. (Though, incidentally, if you want to watch that clip edited to specifically depict how the results came in this year, you’ll need to watch Sister Act 2.) This musical-comedy is about as feel-good as it gets, meaning there’s no reason you should wait four more years to watch it. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 7.5/10
Nevada Memes
Speaking of election results, Nevada memes. That’s it—that’s the tweet. Vulture has a round up of some of the best.
youtube
SNL Round Up
Laugh and enjoy!
“Cinema Classics: The Birds” (4605 with John Mulaney)
“Uncle Ben” (4606 with Dave Chappelle)
RoboCop (1987)
I’m not surprised I liked RoboCop, but I am surprised at why I liked RoboCop. Not only is this a boss action blockbuster, it’s an investigation into consumerism and the commodification of the human body. It’s also a critique of institutions that treat crime like statistics instead of actions done by people that impact people. That said, it’s also movie about a guy who’s fused with a robot and melts another guy’s face off with toxic sludge, so there’s a reason I’m not listing this under the Critic section. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8/10
Double Feature – ‘80s Comedies: National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) + Major League (1989)
The ‘80s-palooza is in full swing! In Vacation (Crowd: 9.5/10 // Critic: 8/10), Chevy Chase just wants to spend time with his family on a vacation to Wally World, but wouldn’t you know it, Murphy’s Law kicks into gear as soon as the Griswold family shifts from out of Park. The brilliance of the movie is that every one of these terrible things is plausible, but the Griswolds create the biggest problems themselves. In Major League (Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 6.5/10), Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, and Wesley Snipes are Cleveland’s last hope for a winning baseball team. Like the Griswolds, mishaps and hijinks ensue in their attempt to prevent their greedy owner from moving the Indians to Miami, but the real win is this movie totally gets baseball fans. Like most ‘80s movies, not everything in this pair has aged well, but they brought some laughs when I needed them most.
This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens (2020)
They’re born a minute apart in the same hospital, but they don’t meet until their 30th birthday on New Year’s Day. So, yes, it’s a little bit Serendipity, and it’s a little bit sappy, but those are both marks in this book’s favor. This Time Next Year is a time-hopping rom-com with lots of almost-meet-cutes that will have you laughing, believing in romantic twists of fate, and finding hope for the new year.
Double Feature – ‘80s Angsty Teens: Teen Wolf (1985) + Uncle Buck (1989)
In the ‘80s, Hollywood finally understood the angsty teen, and this pair of comedies isn’t interested in the melodrama earlier movies like Rebel Without a Cause were depicting. (I’d recommend Rebel, but not if you want to look back on your teen years with any sense of humor.) In Teen Wolf (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 5/10), Michael J. Fox discovers he’s a werewolf.one that looks more like the kid in Jumanji than any other portrayal of a werewolf you’ve seen. It’s a plot so ‘80s and so bizarre you won’t believe this movie was greenlit.
In Uncle Buck (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7.5/10), John Candy is attempting to connect with the nieces and nephew he hasn’t seen in years, including one moody high schooler. (Plus, baby Gaby Hoffman and pre-Home Alone Macauley Culkin!) This is my second pick from one of my all-time fave filmmakers, John Hughes (along with National Lampoon’s Vacation, above), and it’s one more entry that balances heart and humor in a way only he could do. You can see where I rank this movie in Hughes’s pantheon on Letterboxd.
Lord of the Rings memes
This month on SO IT’S A SHOW?, Kyla and I revisited The Lord of the Rings, a trilogy we love almost as much as we love Gilmore Girls. You can listen to our episode about the series on your fave podcast app, and you can laugh through hundreds of memes like I did for “research” on Twitter.
Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson (2019)
Most adults are afraid of children’s temper tantrums, but can you imagine how terrified you’d be if they caught on fire in their fits of rage? That’s the premise of this novel, which begins when an aimless twentysomething becomes the nanny of a Tennessee politician’s twins who burst into flames when they get emotional. The book is filled with laugh-out-loud moments but never leaves behind the human emotion you need to make a magical realistic story.
An Officer and a Gentlemen (1982)
Speaking of aimless twentysomethings and emotion, feel free to laugh, cry, and swoon through this melodrama in the ‘80s canon. Richard Gere meanders his way into the Navy when he has nowhere else to go, and he tries to survive basic training, work through his family issues, and figure out his future as he also falls in love with Debra Winger. So, yeah, it’s a schamltzier version of Top Gun, but it’s schmaltz at its finest. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7.5/10
November Critic Picks
Double Feature – ‘40s Amensia Romances: Random Harvest (1942) + The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947)
Speaking of schmaltz at its finest, let me share a few more titles fitting that description. In Random Harvest (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 8.5/10), Greer Garson falls in love with a veteran who can’t remember his life before he left for war. In The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 8.5/10), Gene Tierney discovers a ghost played by a crotchety Rex Harrison in her new home. Mild spoiler: Both feature amnesiac plot developments, and while amnesia has become a cliché in the long history of romance films, Harvest is moving enough and Mr. Muir is charming enough that you won’t roll your eyes. You can see these and more romances complicated by forced forgetfulness in this Letterboxd round up.
The African Queen (1951)
It’s Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn directed by John Huston—I mean, I don’t feel like I need to explain why this is a winner. Bogart (in his Oscar-winning role) and Hepburn star in a two-hander script, dominating the screen time except for a select few scenes with supporting cast. The pair fight for survival while cruising on a small boat called The African Queen during World War I (in Africa, natch), and the two make this small story feel grand and epic. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)
A young man’s (Dennis Price) mother is disowned from their wealthy family because she marries for love. After her death, he seeks vengeance by killing all of the family members ahead of him in line to be the Duke D'Ascoyne. The twist? All of his victims are played by Sir Alec Guinness! Almost every character in this black comedy is a terrible person, so you won’t be too sorry to see them go—you can just enjoy the creative “accidents” he stages and stay in suspense on whether our “hero” gets his comeuppance. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 8.5/10
Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife (1937)
What would you do if you found out you were to be someone’s eighth wife? Well, it’s probably not what Claudette Colbert does in this screwball comedy that reminds me a bit of Love Crazy. This isn’t the first time I’ve recommended Colbert, Gary Cooper, or Ernst Lubitsch films, so it’s no surprise these stars and this director can make magic together in this hilarious battle of the wills. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8.5/10
The Red Shoes (1948)
I love stories about the competition between your life and your art, and The Red Shoes makes that competition literal. Moira Shearer plays a ballerina who feels life is meaningless without dancing—then she falls in love. That’s an oversimplification of a rich character study and some of the most beautiful ballet on film, but I can’t do it justice in a short paragraph. Just watch (perhaps while you’re putting up your hot pink tinsel tree?) and soak in all the goodness. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 10/10
The Third Man (1949)
Everybody loves to talk about Citizen Kane, and with the release of Mank on Netflix, it’s newsworthy again. But don’t miss this other ‘40s team up of Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles. Cotten is a writer digging for the truth of his friend’s (Welles) death in a mysterious car accident. Eyewitness accounts differ on what happened, and who was the third man at the scene only one witness remembers? 71 years later, this movie is still tense, and this actor pairing is still electric. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
The Untouchables (1987)
At the end of October, we lost Sean Connery. I looked back on his career first by writing a remembrance for ZekeFilm and then by watching The Untouchables. (In a perfect world I would’ve reversed that order, but c’est la vie.) In my last selection from the ‘80s, Connery and Kevin Costner attempt to convict Robert De Niro’s Al Capone of anything that will stick and end his reign of crime in Chicago. Directed by Brian De Palma and set to an Ennio Morricone soundtrack, this film is both an exciting action flick and an artistic achievement that we literally discussed in one of my college film classes. Connery won his Oscar, and K. Cos is giving one of the best of his career, too. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 9.5/10
Remember the Night (1940)
Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck in my favorite team up yet! Double Indemnity may be the bona fide classic in the canon, but this Christmas story—with MacMurray as a district attorney prosecuting shoplifter Stanwyck— is a charmer. I’ve added it to my list of must-watch Christmas movies—watch for some holiday cheer and rom-com feels. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 8.5/10

No one asked, but here are my classic film starter recommendations!
All these films are from the 1930s to the 1960s, also known as the Golden Age of Hollywood. Removing the usual recommendations like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Breakfast at Tiffany’s because we all know these have been cemented as faves by a lot of film nerds like myself (although I personally don’t really like Citizen Kane, but I understand why its so iconic).
1. The Thin Man (1934) - SERIOUSLY. WATCH THIS. A murder mystery + Nick and Nora Charles being relationship goals. You will fall for William Powell in this one if you didn’t fall for him in the next few recommendations I have. You will probably prefer William Powell and Myrna Loy’s pairing over the others who would be paired with them in their respective film careers. This is the first of 6 movies but those could be for a separate post if anyone’s interested.
2. It Happened One Night (1934) - Clark Gable + Claudette Colbert. A screwball romantic comedy that gives me the fuzzies.
3. Double Indemnity (1944) - Barbara Stanwyck gives everyone a masterclass in acting in this noir film that really became the benchmark for many noir films to come.
4. Dinner at Eight (1933) - John and Lionel Barrymore (Drew Barrymore’s grandfather and great uncle), Billie Burke, Jean Harlow, Marie Dressler, Wallace Beery are all facing some problems in the buildup to an upcoming high society dinner.
5. One Way Passage (1932) - William Powell and Kay Francis are two star-crossed lovers who meet at a cruise heading stateside. The ending isn’t as sad as you think, especially if you get around to listening to the radio adaptation.
6. Sunset Blvd (1950) - Another iconic noir film, Gloria Swanson plays an aging actress from the silent era trying to recapture her heyday. It ends badly for William Holden.
7. Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948) - The title is exactly what it is, and it’s a feel-good film. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy play this upper-class New York family who decide to move to the country and they transform a run-down estate into their dream house!
8. Pillow Talk (1959) - Doris Day and Rock Hudson! If you’ve watched Down with Love, then Pillow Talk is the movie it pays homage to (split-screens, phone conversations). Takes you back to the years where there was such a thing as a “party line” and having to get a private line was tough.
9. The Jewel Robbery (1932)- Can you tell William Powell is my favorite actor? He plays a jewel thief who comes across a baroness played by Kay Francis. He doesn’t expect that his own target would fall in love with him - but things work out for both of them in the end.
10. Sabrina (1954) - Imagine Humphrey Bogart playing a romantic lead? You will now once you watched this! Audrey Hepburn’s Sabrina is pining for William Holden’s David Larrabee, with Bogie playing his older brother Linus, who ends up falling in love with Sabrina.

Bob Dorian, actor and magician who introduced classic films on AMC, dies at 85.
While we are late in sharing this, we would like to share our condolences to the friends and family of Bob Dorian, the original professor Knowby. Sam Raimi had actually paid him only $100 to record his lines for The Evil Dead. He will surely be missed. You can read the article below.
Bob Dorian, an actor, magician and avuncular movie buff who presented more than 10,000 classic films, B-movie serials and pre-Code Hollywood gems as the first prime-time host of American Movie Classics, died June 15. He was 85, although he often said he preferred to give his age by way of film history, declaring that he was “born between ‘Flying Down to Rio’ and ‘Top Hat.’ ”
His daughter Melissa Dorian confirmed the death but did not say precisely where or how he died, noting that the family prepared only a two-line obituary in keeping with his desire for privacy.
Mr. Dorian performed on the stage, radio, television and occasionally on film, appearing in two movies by one of his favorite contemporary directors, Woody Allen, and lending his voice to Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic “The Evil Dead” as an archaeologist whose tape-recorded readings from an ancient text summon demonic spirits to a cabin in the woods.
Bespectacled and bushy-browed, he began acting at 14; dabbled in stand-up comedy and trapeze-catching at the circus; played the bass in a New York jazz group, the Four Dimensions; and performed mind-reading tricks and other illusions as the Amazing Dorian, sometimes incorporating his wife and three daughters into his act.
“Women, cars — you name it and I’ve floated it,” he told The Washington Post in 1991, describing his powers of levitation. A magic performance he once gave in Saudi Arabia, he added, drove his audience from the room because “they thought I was doing the devil’s art.”
[He’s an expert, yes, but first, he’s a fan: Bob Dorian at AMC]
Mr. Dorian appeared in a 1976 television special alongside magicians David Copperfield and Carl Ballantine, but became far better known as the principal host of American Movie Classics, later shortened to AMC. The network launched in 1984 as a premium-cable showcase for old films, presenting movies without cuts or commercials a decade before the creation of Turner Classic Movies, the channel’s main competitor.
Although he was later joined by daytime hosts Gene Klavan and Nick Clooney, Mr. Dorian was “the heart and soul of AMC,” Los Angeles Times journalist Susan King wrote in 2002, about one year after Mr. Dorian left the network. His departure coincided with sweeping programming changes at AMC, where old movies were replaced with contemporary films and, eventually, original series such as “Mad Men.”
During his tenure, Mr. Dorian introduced movies with a two-minute segment filmed at a living-room set, where he roamed between bookshelves, a black Maltese falcon statue, and portraits of stars Jean Harlow and Hedy Lamarr.
Regaling viewers with Hollywood history and behind-the-scenes trivia, he explained how the filmmakers of “Casablanca” wrote the script as the movie was being made; how Bette Davis landed the lead role in “All About Eve” only after Claudette Colbert suffered a cracked vertebra while filming “Three Came Home”; and how no fewer than 188 actors had played the roles of Sherlock Holmes and his assistant, Dr. Watson.
While TCM host Robert Osborne was an urbane film historian, Mr. Dorian insisted that he was little more than a movie fan. “We never use tape-overs,” he told the Dallas Morning News in 1994, explaining his process. “If I make a mistake, we leave it in. I want to seem like a human being who enjoys movies, not a superior professor talking down to an audience.”
He recalled that he got the AMC hosting job in large part through chance, when he met a producer in the early 1980s after being cast as Dracula in a television ad for a video game. “It was a very long two-day shoot, with most of my time spent in a tight coffin filled with way too much smoke,” he told GoFatherhood, a parenting blog. “Lunchtime usually lapsed into long conversations about all those great old movies the producer and I enjoyed when we were growing up.”
The producer, Norm Blumenthal, later helped start AMC, and asked Mr. Dorian if he would be interested in serving as an announcer. Executives were considering “two Broadway actors, a well-known TV film critic and a few others who were more involved in writing as a profession,” Mr. Dorian said.
After Mr. Dorian was suggested as half of a Siskel-and-Ebert-style duo, one executive purportedly had a breakthrough. “Wait a minute,” Mr. Dorian recalled his saying. “The critic might not be too crazy about some of the films we’ve brought in. This guy Dorian likes everything!”
Indeed, he favored classics such as “Citizen Kane” and “King Kong” as well B-movie serials such as “Zombies of the Stratosphere,” encouraging viewers to give the 1952 science-fiction film a try — if only because it featured Leonard Nimoy, who later played the pointy-eared Spock, in a supporting role as a Martian.
Mr. Dorian was born in Brooklyn in April 1934, two months after the release of “It Happened One Night.” He rarely discussed his upbringing, aside from recounting the Saturdays he spent evading matrons at local movie theaters, where he watched three or more films for the price of a dime.
He later worked as a theater usher, a job that enabled him to catch 86 screenings of the swashbuckling 1950 film “Cyrano de Bergerac,” and appeared in television shows such as “Suspense” and “Studio One,” according to one Washington Post report.
Mr. Dorian performed in the Allen movies “The Curse of the Jade Scorpion” (2001) and “Hollywood Ending” (2002), along with an independent Civil War film, “The Last Confederate” (2005). He was also a mainstay of regional theater productions — including at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J. — before retiring to Florida in recent years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jane Dorian; three daughters, Melissa Dorian, Robin Dorian and Jane Dorian; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Dorian likened his work at AMC as that of a historian or archivist, keeping old films alive for younger generations. But he seemed to find equal — if not greater — delight in his theatrical performances, notably in a 1998 touring production of “The Wizard of Oz,” during which he served as the understudy to the wizard, played by Mickey Rooney, and began the show as Dorothy’s Uncle Henry.
“Then we go through the tornado scene,” he told the New York Times , explaining his transformation into a new character. “I’m upstairs becoming a citizen of Oz, and I come out a little bit later when the Winkies are working for the Wicked Witch. I’m the head Winkie. We hired a line of Broadway ensemble dancers to be the Winkies, and I kept saying, Couldn’t you put me behind these people?”

Plus-size retailer 11 Honoré just had the most powerful fashion show: Shop every single look
Plus-size luxury e-tailer 11 Honoré just kicked off New York Fashion Week on Wednesday night, with a powerful, size-inclusive show that included Laverne Cox shutting down the catwalk in a princess-worthy fuchsia gown by Zac Posen.
Curvy models Candice Huffine, Precious Lee, Marquita Pring and more strutted the catwalk wearing a myriad of red carpet gowns any A-list actress would wear to the Oscars. After all, the looks were designed by the fashion industry’s premiere crop of designers — Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu were among the 35 designers featured in the show. Their collections are often adorned by celebs and royals, from Nicole Kidman to Meghan Markle. All of the show’s looks flowed seamlessly from one to another — from luxe tuxedo blazer dresses, sleek sheath dresses and pleated coral gowns to emerald off-the-shoulder blouses and sexy cold-shoulder dresses.
11 Honoré’s show comes at an especially crucial time during NYFW’s shift towards greater size inclusivity. Recent fashion weeks have witnessed a rise in body-positive fashion; Torrid staged its first runway show, as did Loft, and labels like Chromat, Christian Siriano and Prabal Gurung have been making plus-size models a regular part of their runway shows.
But what makes 11 Honoré different from the others is that its entire business model is centered on catering luxury fashion to women who were underserved for so long. The e-tailer stocks looks from nearly 90 designers in sizes 10 to 20-plus, proving that any woman can wear luxurious designer threads. To bring new meaning to the “See now, buy now” model, 11 Honoré gave show attendees booklets that enabled them to shop the looks straight from their seats by scanning Shopify-enabled QR codes on their smartphones.
Everyone else can shop the entire show now on 11honore.com. If you need a little extra styling advice, 11 Honoré partnered with Shopbop to curate shoes and accessories to pair with each runway look, so you can get the full-fledged personal experience from the comfort of your own home.
“11 Honoré strives to be on the right side of the conversation about where fashion is headed and is honored to be a part of creating a real change,” says Patrick Herning, founder and CEO of 11 Honoré. “Today is a culmination of innovation, technology and fashion.”
Click through the gallery to shop every single look from 11 Honoré’s historic NYFW show.

► Lana Kane
Lana Anthony Kane is the deuteragonist and a field agent at ISIS as well as Sterling's current girlfriend and the mother of his child.
Lana has aspirations for advancement as a master spy and has considered positions offered by ODIN, both at their international headquarters[1] and as Regional Director for the Americas, although her strong leftist views often cause friction between her and her job.
Lana was born to Lemuel and Claudette Kane. Going by a flashback to her youth, it appears Lana was born and raised in San Francisco. As a child Lana was highly pressured by her parents, who were both college professors, to succeed. She was so nervous about going to science fairs that it led to her throwing up in the car. Lana got her job as an ISIS agent during a protest at a local furrier. She was about to throw red paint on Malory Archer's new fur when Malory pointed her gun at Lana's forehead. The rest of the protestors fled, including Joshua Gray, but Lana was not intimidated. Malory, impressed by her nerve, offered Lana a job. Three weeks later she was on her first mission in Tunisia "killing a different man," referencing that she restructured her priorities from being a college protester (sticking it to "the man") to whom she is now.
Lana ended a long term relationship with Sterling, due mostly to his cheating on her. However, his very demanding relationship with his mother did not help either. However, it is shown that both Sterling and Lana have lingering feelings for each other and still care for each other, although they often bicker. When Archer thought he was going to die of breast cancer, he convinced Lana (out of pity) into a one night stand. During the affair, he appeared to want to tell Lana his true feelings, however, that was interrupted. After a long period of time, Archer confesses to Lana he loves her, which Lana acknowledges, but does not return[4]. It is later revealed that Lana does love Archer right before she reveals his paternity of their daughter, Abbiejean.
Lana also dated ISIS comptroller Cyril Figgis for a time, to the mystification of her colleagues. That relationship ended when she walked in on him cheating on her with Framboise. Her relationship with Cyril may have been due to the fact that he was perceived as a more stable partner compared to her earlier relationship with Sterling (or subconsciously as a means to spite Archer). She quietly admitted was much more comfortable with him since his mother had "died in a fire." After discovering Cyril had cheated on her many times during their relationship, their relationship fell apart completely. Lana later paired with Cyril again in "Viscous Coupling", although it was more out of desperation for companionship and sexual satisfaction than any genuine attraction. This second attempt at a relationship fell apart due to Cyril's increased paranoia caused by Pam and Cheryl's meddling and culminated in another breakup once Lana announced her pregnancy through a sperm bank, which she did without telling him prior.
Lana also has a strong desire to have a baby. In "Blood Test," she propositions both Sterling and Ray Gillette to have a child (albeit while drunk). In "The Honeymooners," while climbing a skyscraper, she seriously considered the notion of having a baby with Archer (partially to annoy him and partially because the two of them would produce a beautiful child), but quickly disregarded the idea and instead decided on Cyril. That decision was quickly overturned because of underlying trust issues between the two of them. In "Sea Tunt: Part II," Lana tells everyone she is pregnant and confirms Cyril is not the father, much to his chagrin. She later revealed that the father was a sperm donor, which has been used as a point of ridicule against her ever since. In "Archer Vice: Arrival/Departure", Lana gives birth to a girl, which she reveals to Archer that he is the father by using his frozen sperm. Despite her problems with Archer in the past, she appears to genuinely care about him and she peacefully introduces him to their daughter. This appears to be her attempt at trying what Archer suggested earlier in the season: Starting a family so that her daughter can have a father in her life.
Despite Lana's undeniable good looks, she is also very insecure about her appearance when it's called into question. She brags about her shaven vulva in "Skytanic" and insists that her breasts haven't started to sag, even demanding that her colleagues take notice of this in the middle of a firefight on a space station in "Space Race: Part II." She also seems to have a great deal of difficulty with relationships, declaring she had gone on "tons of dates" when in reality she had not had sex in the last fourteen months. She claims her trouble with relationships stemmed from her time dating Archer, which resulted in a number of severe trust issues.
Despite having a great disdain for Archer, Lana shares the closest connection with him of all the characters. They're frequently partnered together on missions, and despite all the stuff he put her through, she still considers him a friend (Heart of Archness: Part III). However, it is obvious to any Archer addict that Archer and Lana care for each other deeply.
During a firefight, both Archer and Lana reveal they are each other's beneficiaries should they die. Lana stated she was going to change that, but it's unknown if she did (Skorpio). Lana showed great concern for Archer when he was diagnosed with breast cancer (Stage Two) and spent the night with him out of pity (he originally believed they had sex, but they did not). After Archer found out his cancer medication was fake, Lana begrudgingly accompanied him in his "rampage," serving as his cameraman and chauffeuse (Placebo Effect)
Following Archer's initial joy at being a father, his feelings quickly turn to fear, resulting in him yet again running away from home, and going on a bender of cobra venom and lady-boys hookers. Although Archer returned home eventually, Lana was not pleased with how quickly he ran away from his responsibility as a father, stating that if Archer wished to be part of their daughter's life, ground rules would need to be placed. Archer reminded her that such rules would eventually be broken by him, making it pointless (The Holdout). Archer showed great concern for their daughter's future, when he began to question what would happen to Abbiejean should they both die while on a mission and suggested Malory and Woodhouse. Oddly, Lana actively tried to avoid the conversation, though she made it clear that his choices were not acceptable. At last, she explained that should anything happen to her (and ONLY her), custody of their daughter would go first to her parents, and then to her sister. She avoided the topic for fear of hurting Archer's feelings that neither he nor anyone in his family would be allowed custody of Abbiejean. Archer, most likely to mask his disappointment, proceeded to ask if Lana's sister was younger. She proceeded to crush her large hands into the bloody bullet wounds in his back, which he attained during a mission. (Three to Tango).
She was formerly a radical environmentalist (Pipeline Fever), although she still expresses many left-wing opinions, which often cause her to be excluded from missions, albeit questionable ones such as blowing up an oil pipeline. Despite this, Lana is openly anti-immigration, at least towards illegal immigrants; Archer, bewildered by this, refers to as a "Lorax-blowing treehugger" for her leftist views.
She has $420,675 in her ISIS 401(k). (Jeu Monégasque)
Lana's sidearm of choice is a fully automatic TEC-9, of which she carries two. She has a reputation of firing at full automatic without taking the time to aim, which earned her the nickname "Spray and pray" during basic training. She is also known to questionably carry only two spare magazines of ammunition.
She's often seen drinking bottled orange soda from the ISIS vending machines which she can open without a bottle opener, despite them not being twist-offs. (Drift Problem).
She gave birth to Archer's daughter through artificial insemination. (Archer Vice: Arrivals/Departures)

The Palm Beach Story premiered in Portugal on Nov 27, 1942 and Dec 3 in Mexico before it's US premiere on Dec 10 in New York City. It did not go into wide release in the US until Jan 1, 1943, so this must have been an advance poster limited to New York.
Preston Sturges, whose head comes between Claudette Colbert and Joel McCrae in the poster, was the first major writer/director in Hollywood. His The Great McGinty preceded Orson's Citizen Kane by nine months.

The Illusionist
❛ No one really does know how to have fun here at all. It is all etiquette. Our lives are just spectacles. We are like dolls, in a sense, to be observed and played with often with cruel and deceitful intentions. ❜
Full Name Annette Luisa Valois née Habsburg Alias — Age 26 (b. 1615) Alliance The Crown Position Queen Consort Negative Traits Decadent, Meddlesome, Dogmatic Positive Traits Astute, Captivating, Witty
Annette Luisa was the Infanta of Spain and Portugal long before she became Annette of France. The eldest daughter of King Felipe and widely known for her beauty and intellect in the Spanish courts. Never one to shy away from her education or more poignantly from a game or too and oft times a little too indulgent when it came to fashions or the little luxuries of life, a habit she has yet to grow out of. But despite this Annette Luisa has always taken her fate quite seriously, she was the eldest and only child up until the birth of her younger brother, Charles III. And, until that moment of his conception and birth, she was ushered and prepared for her would-be reign, as Queen of Spain. The birth of her little brother was a celebration, even for Annette, who despite her aptitude and attention for the weaving politics of court, had little interest in ruling Spain. Even as a young girl Annette’s ambitions sprawled further than the Kingdom of Spain, she craved to see the world.
Her wish was granted with her betrothal, it was a hasty affair and with Annette already of age the married some months after her sixteenth birthday on the border between their two countries. It was supposed to be a unification and a political match that would ease all tensions, but as Annette grew to learn, the French courts weren’t keen on foreign Princesses, and more importantly it was a grandiose façade. With their consummation performed in private rather than public, due solely to the hasty nature of the marriage, the urgency of it all Annette has never quite understood but she was grateful for the privacy. The first night was, difficult. Those that followed even more so. Her marriage has not been a fairy-tale nor has it quite been like the nightmares she’d heard other women whisper of. In Alexandre she has found a friend, or a companion, but not a husband.
The first month at French court was no easy feat to have survived with her dignity intact. Her ladies-in-waiting, all but for Claudette Valois, were quite adamant on making her feeling as foreign as feasibly possible. Combined with the strangeness of the unspoken rules and guidelines to be followed in court, for which, Annette had tutoring lessons in those initial weeks—so she might greet her ladies and gentlemen in the French way. It was overwhelming, dazzling, fresh and new but still a great deal for a young woman to digest at once. But as etiquette became second nature to Annette, and her confidence in French flourished, so did her natural aura. She took to playing cards again in the evenings, often gambling meagre amounts of money should she see fit to raise the stakes a little, Annette was never one to be afraid of a little risk. In between the folded corners of the Ace of Spades and Queen of Hearts, Annette learnt to wield the political court games just as much as the cards.
A decade on and her marriage has not been free from controversy, there are times that she wishes that Alexandre might be more kingly and a little less pious. More troubling than the lack of affection or otherwise attention from her husband, is her lack of heir. It’s no matter how sharp or subtly brilliant she is at wielding court politics to her influence if there isn’t an heir, or any child for that matter, to succeed them. Still, in the face of the rumours Annette has remained strong and resolute, particularly so in her ambitions, there is still a daringly adventurous part of the Queen that dreams of escaping the chivalries and false pretences of court to explore, France, the world—it doesn’t matter, so long as it’s away.
Connections
Alexandre Valois — Her inattentive husband and king, the rumours that whip through court of them have been spoken so carelessly and frequently that they possess little meaning to Annette anymore. But it is one matter to jest that her husband is dotingly pious and another to know the truth behind their lack of children, but she is not fool enough to speak such truths aloud. Some secrets are best kept behind closed doors. It has been increasingly difficult to find a middle ground, even if it was clear from the beginning of their marriage to her that Alexandre would never see her as more than a friend. She cannot move on and love another, no more than he can, they have been matched out of political necessity, she only wishes he could see that but perhaps, it is too late now.
Renaud Marin — For some time he was just a mere face amidst the many Musketeers, a member of the guard that she was kept at a distance from, but as he came to be an envoy they’ve had the rare pleasure of speaking. She is fond of him, a great deal, bonding over their shared nationalities and a sense of solidarity in the face of her loneliness. But even Annette herself is not sure it can go much further, not blind to the rumours of his apparent affection. But whether they are true or not, she has said her vows and for now, she intends to keep them.
Thomas Bourbon-Condé — He is a pain in her side and unfortunately, after being promoted to Grand Maître she has seen a great deal too much of Thomas. Annette cannot fathom why her husband is so fond of the man, she herself finds him too proud and ignorant. For now, she guards her tongue around him and for the most part she succeeds but if a quip or two slip free she can scarcely be blamed, not when he frolics through court as if he owns it.

Dropbox recovered a playlist I made in early 2013 back when my music collection was then at full strength
so much nostalgia on some songs that I haven't heard in 6 years that I had to pat myself on the back; I'd thought I lost this so there might be duplicates from later years
