Back with listing these and boy do I have something for you. I don’t know if a lot of you already read this one but it has some thousand faves and follows on ffnet so I assume it’s a fan favorite.

And it is! This has got to be one of the few fics that scarred me for life it got me thinking about it a week after finishing it. It tells a unique romance between Peeta and Katniss weaved with the settings of the civil war, with plot devices of (slight spoiler!) murder and hiding. So if you’re a fan of that kind of genre I assure you’ll bargain your soul after reading this lol

From what I gathered, monroeslittle is now more known for harry potter fics? Correct me if I’m wrong, so they’re not active anymore with everlark. Their writing is just—!!! I can’t verbalize it, it’s just too good. The way Katniss’ thought process delivers so well the words suspense my breathing every time a scene comes up.

And Peeta? Oh i’m on my knees for anything Peeta on a uniform. Since it is a war setting, the slow burn this have with their meeting did not disappoint and when they meet I swear to god I [redacted] then [redacted] and then [redacted] lol. It’s so good you guys!!!

As a non-American I also learned something about US history so that’s a plus. The way Prim is written here too especially in the last chapters got me tearful. I don’t wanna spoil any more than this but I hope this rambling is enough for you to start the fic.

Summary:

It is May of 1865 and the war is over, or nearly over. Aziraphale has relocated to Washington, DC, and he is counting down the hours until he can be reunited with Anthony. When they meet again, sparks fly.

Excerpt:

Time to prepare. Aziraphale reached for a glass plate, his hands trembling. Oh, it wouldn’t do to drop a plate at all. They were so fragile, and there was so much room for error in the process. Aziraphale had heard a rumor that Alexander Gardner had broken his last photographic negative of President Lincoln — had cracked it while pouring the developer and had thrown the plate away after pulling just a single print, not knowing the significance of what he had. Yes, best be careful.

Somehow, Aziraphale managed to pour the collodion steadily, his years of experience coming to his rescue. He handed the plate to Adam and prepared another, just in case his timing was off. Then it was time to wait, watching the minutes tick by on his watch as the soldiers streamed by on the street. Aziraphale crossed his arms, holding his elbows to steady himself.

There. Oh, there.

Anthony was riding alongside his regiment on a glossy black stallion, his scarlet curls peeking out from under his kepi and catching the sunlight, a burst of fire in a sea of blue uniforms. His back was straight and his shoulders thrown back, looking every inch the conquering hero. Aziraphale’s heart swelled. All these months of worry, praying for Anthony’s return, imagining the worst, keeping every perfect memory as a talisman in his heart. And here Anthony was, safe and strong and gloriously whole, right before Aziraphale’s eyes.

heya!!! I was trying to find a fic where Peter joins team cap instead of tony. They still have that father son relationship but it starts off way messier. Im wondering if theres a fic like that!

I thought this would be an easy trope to find but I’m not finding anything that fits. I did find this one. I haven’t read it myself but it sounds like it’s about Peter rethinking the accords and wondering if he was on the right side during the Civil War. Anyway! Onto my MCU Stony fic recs...

Arysteia: “The Twice-Told Tale” (Steve/Tony+) • For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.

Wordsplat: “Hashtag Finally” (Steve/Tony) (000) • Since the story's been deleted from....whichever site, can't remember - I have the doc saved. Also the summary for this one is just the beginning of the fic (I'm lazy): It started with Clint. Technically speaking, Tony never actually invited him. He would have, given any sort of contact information, but Clint disappeared right after the battle of New York and clearly didn't want to be found. Natasha probably knew where he was, but knowing didn't mean sharing, so Tony never got the chance. Invitation or no invitation, three years later Tony still found Clint Barton sitting on his couch, watching Dog Cops and eating Cheetos in his underwear. "Sup." "Shit!" Tony jumped, dropping his mug. "Aw, coffee." Clint peered over the top of the couch. "Sucks, man."

“Meet Your Heroes” (Steve/Tony) (000) • Another one that bit the dust -> google doc The summary is the first few parts of the fic: It’s been a while, sure, but it’s far from his first rodeo and he knows exactly what’s about to happen when the door of the black van in front of him rolls back to reveal four armed men in black ski masks. So yeah, not the best way to kick off the week. He’d had a great weekend. After months of toying with it, scrapping the idea only to circle back around, he’d finally committed and built the mechanized suit he’s envisioned since the “Avengers” first appeared on the scene a few months ago. Part of the reason he’d tried to scrap it so many times was how nervous he’d been to tell Steve. Steve didn’t like to talk much about the mysterious team of superheroes running around their city these days, so Tony had sort of assumed that expressing his desire to join them might make things tense to say the least, if not start an outright fight. To Tony’s pleasant surprise, Steve had instead been weirdly over the moon about it all. Told him to go for it. Went on and on about how the Avengers would be lucky as hell to have him. Practically rewarded him, jumped his bones no less than five minutes after he announced his intentions. So that had been great.

No really, he could do this thing if that's what Steve needed (shut up, Pepper; he so could). Because Steve was worth the wait. But then the gifts started coming and the letters popped up and there were chaste kisses and romance and…and what is even with this? Just when did his life turn into a romance novel?

Tony's got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he's pretty sure that he's going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy's still a little spotty about what is 'clean' enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick. And some things shouldn't be a chore.

The War is Over and We Are... by Hecate

Rating: Teen

Summary: After they beat Thanos, Steve and Tony muddle through what is left of their relationship.

Ending: Open/Ambiguous but hopeful with a hint of Happy for Now.

Why I'm Reccing: So, I'm not sure why this one comes up at the beginning of the alphabet. Maybe there's a space in the title or something, I don't know. But I am so so so pleased that this was the first fic I read upon returning to Stony fic.

I actually almost didn't click on it, and I waffled back and forth for a bit, because while this takes place after Endgame (edit: this was actually published *before* Endgame came out, but after Infinity War, but for me, it still works just fine with canon if we just ignore the last 15-ish minutes of the movie -- which I do!) , it is ultimately a Civil War fix-it. And I'm always so nervous with those, because a lot of them tend to paint Steve as being completely in the wrong and that's just very far from my own take.

But this fic doesn't do that! Steve feels guilt for the role that he played in Civil War, and everything that came after it, feels guilt about not trusting Tony more at the time -- but he also still has his own feelings about the things that Tony did (including in Age of Ultron). Not a lot of CW fix-its focus on the fact that it happened in the wake of AoU, and I'm glad that this one did, because I think it provides another necessary layer and nuance. Not that this dwells on Ultron, but it does come up as Steve is contemplating how they started to fall apart, and what he wants his relationship with Tony to look like in the future.

Y'all, this fic.... I haven't even finished reading it yet, but I had to start typing this up because I knew it was going to be my first rec. It is just an amazing character portrait of Steve (and also Tony, in a way, through Steve's thoughts about Tony) that feels incredibly in character for Steve in a way that stays true to who he is in canon, while also adding more depth to his character.

Since this is ultimately a reconciliation(ish) fic, it kinda gives those early 2012 post-Avengers getting to know one another vibes in parts of the fic (though everything is tinged with heartache and grief -- even the "happy" moments). Which I actually think is sort of a nice bookend to their relationship. And while this fic is short (only 4.5k) and so never actually gives us a complete reconciliation, we are left with hope that they will find their way back into one another's hearts, that they will work through their guilt, and their trust issues, and find a way to make it work this time.

I don't know. It just feels like a very realistic portrayal of where they would be post-Thanos. And the thing that I really like about this fic is that, in staying true to Steve's canonical characterization, we can feel him holding himself back from Tony, keeping his emotions close to his chest, and just how much it's hurting him to do that. In fact, we see a lot of Steve's recklessness in this fic, the way he's almost careless with himself. Steve is not a perfect character, he is flawed, and I wouldn't want him any other way, and this fic hits his flaws perfectly.

And look, I just need to add something. This fic is, in my opinion, extremely underrated. It only has 146 kudos, but whatever. I've read some truly atrocious fics with thousands of kudos, so kudos aren't everything. But when I went into the comments, the very first comments were from people complaining about the fic, about how Steve didn't do enough for Tony in the fic, and frankly being outright argumentative with the author (this argument made up the bulk of the fic's 18 comments), and that.... that really sucks. Cause this was a truly beautiful fic, and the author didn't deserve that. No author does, but it was especially shitty to see it on such a brilliant character study of Steve.

Anyway, if you give the fic a chance, and I really hope you do, especially if you are a Steve fan, please show the author some love.
