爷爷, Cijin Island
He was on his usual morning walk that time he saw us trudging the path uphill to the lighthouse. We simply asked him for directions but he gladly offered to be our tour guide. We offered him a tip, which he refused to take. 谢谢 🙇‍♂️

Kaohsiung Travel Guide
1. Love River
Tumblr media
Love River is the perfect place to take long walks and bike rides, during the day or night. The most scenic part is where Wufu road crosses the river because there are many attractions there. Many people also enjoy the peaceful boat rides provided, as it gives a different perspective from the trail. Along the river banks are many cafes, bars, and restaurants and street musicians often play for the crowds at night.
Take the orange line and get off at Yanchengpu and exit and walk east up Wufu Road toward the Love River. Scroll down for more travel information.
2. Meinong Township
Meinong Township is a quaint area on the outskirts of Kaohsiung known for its preservation of Hakka culture. The highlights of the township are two folk villages where you can explore their old architecture while shopping for crafts and food. Meinong is known for its beautiful paper umbrellas which you can purchase or admire, as well as its assortment of Hakka foods including bantiao and Hakka stir fry.
For more detailed information on specific locations and/or directions, visit their website here.

3. Cijin Island
Cijin Island is a small island off of Kaohsiung. You can go sightseeing at the Tianhou Temple, the star tunnel, and Cihou Lighthouse as well as enjoy the view on the beach. The food definitely holds much of the appeal too - enjoy fresh and cheap seafood that you’d probably be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. From fried squid to black ink sausage to spicy scallops, you’ll definitely find something you like.
To get there, take the Kaohsiung MRT to the Sizihwan stop (四子灣站). Find the sign pointing to the harbor and walk for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, take the ferry.

The Pier 2 Art Center is very popular among modern art fans, as there is a wide range of the types of art exhibits. The indoor and outdoor areas include decorated warehouses that consist of very unique and contemporary art sculptures, statues, and galleries. The exhibitions change very often, so there will always be something new if you visit multiple times.
Learn more To get there, take the orange line of the MRT to the Yanchengpu station, leave through Exit 1, turn right and walk for ~4 minutes. Address is No. 1, Dayong Rd, Yancheng District, Kaohsiung City.
5. Liuhe Night Market
With a variety of street food, local snacks, and seafood, the Liuhe Night Market is one of the most famous Taiwanese night markets. Since Kaohsiung is a tropical city, papaya milk and steamed shrimps are signature dishes. This area was reconstructed to create an international tourism night market as well.
Learn more Directions by MRT: take the orange line to KRT Formosa Boulevard Station and walk towards to Zhongshan 1st Road. There are also many bus lines you can take to get there as well. The address is Liuhe 2nd Rd, Xinxing District, Kaohsiung City.
