On 11th September 2018, Pope Francis, in his homily, said that Satan is seeking to uncover the sins of the Bishops. Hence Bishops should pray against Satan. The Catholic Church is presently being plagued by sex abuse and cover-up scandals. In this context, the Pope seems to suggest that the Bishops pray against Satan so that their sins are not uncovered. Are Gays Corrupting the Church?
I am not one to write against prominent people of the Church, whether they are priests or laity.  But recently I have read and seen in Social Media a certain group of Catholics who make claims that doesn't make much sense to me.  As a person with same sex attraction (SSA, secularly a member of the LGBTQ community) it is harder not to notice men like Michael Voris who has admitted to 'grave and sinful' acts with both men and women in his past, currently spin an old prejudice in which connects Homosexuality and Pedophilia.  Particularly using this prejudice in his Vortex videos to justify the sad acts of child abuse by clergy.
We must be reminded that the abuse of children by priests and other representatives of the Catholic Church has been known and aluded to over the years long before the famous Boston Globe story.  When I was younger I can recall a film that aired in the early 1990s that directly spoke of this problem. Oprah and "60 Minutes" had segments directly related to this topic. Over time they seemed to be forgotten.  Those of us who were old enough to remember  had damned Sinead O'Connor for tearing up a photo of John Paul II on "Saturday Night Live".  Later we learned that is was in protest of the vow of secrecy that Bishops seemed to take when it came to the abuse of Irish minors.
While Michael Voris was meeting men in dark corners; these despicable acts where being thrown into even darker corners. Everyone in my Diocese (Diocese of Scranton) knew the story of Father "Smith" or Deacon "Jones" who suddenly disappeared from their pastoral positions.   In fact there are many other Smiths and Joneses all over the American Catholic landscape who were suddenly there and then gone.  What causes Pedophilia is beyond me; some say it's about control.  Other like Voris say it's because of latent Homosexual desires.
Michael Voris and those who follow him believe the latter and use this as an excuse as to why we have this problem in the first place and that there is the underground gay movement that wan't to change the Church in such a drastic way that it no longer is the 'Faith of our Fathers'. In a 2013 herek.org blog entry (I know it's not the most reliable source) the author states  that:
"Back in 1977, when Anita Bryant campaigned successfully to repeal a Dade County (FL) ordinance prohibiting anti-gay discrimination, she named her organization "Save Our Children," and warned that "a particularly deviant-minded [gay] teacher could sexually molest children" (Bryant, 1977, p. 114)"
It seems that the belief that male homosexuals are going to molest and corrupt your child was proclaimed much longer than it seems.  The lauded Fulton Sheen made this known as well and warned Catholics about their, our, persistent need to destroy the very fabric of the Catholic Church.  But are we really?  Is there this underground movement of gays within the Church that wants to undermine the very faith and the institutional Church as Voris and his ilk believe?  Are Gays really to blame for the pedophilia scandal?   I believe everyone in the Church is to blame for the scandal.  EVERYONE clergy and laity alike.   Priests should have spoken out more then than they are now.  Laity should have listened to the victims and demanded a change in leadership then than the are now.  I include myself.  When someone who represents us, the Church, harms another and then tries to cover it up, we are all to blame.  When one of our members is harmed, we are all harmed.  When we break an arm the whole body feels it.
The totality of homosexuals in the world are not to blame for this scandal nor are they trying to undermine the leadership of the Church.  What is trying to undermine the Church is this sense of fraternity among the clergy that made them close ranks around these men and hide their discretions instead of bringing them to light when it first happened.  Would this have caused a great scandal then?  Yes! But at least we could have licked our wounds and tried to prevent this from happening again just as we are now.
