9-1-1 SEASON 8, EPISODE 6 "CONFESSIONS"
What if it's called that because the entire episode takes place at church, with Eddie speaking with Hot Priest through the confessional...
And all the calls and everything else are "flashbacks" related to the reason that brought Eddie to the church, to Hot Priest, to the confessional...
And either the last scene is of Buck and Eddie after Eddie gets back from speaking with Hot Priest and he helps him shave...
OR...
Buck helps Eddie shave and it sparks the reason why Eddie runs to the church in the first place.
And the entire time we've been hearing Eddie’s voice but haven't seen him, until...
"Forgive me father for I have sinned."
"What is your sin, my child?"
Eddie leans forward, out of the shadows and into the light to reveal his freshly shaven face. "I've fallen in love with my best friend."
Episode cuts to black. Roll credits. Preview for next week.

What you said about Grian keeping his modesty even after leaving the Watchers.... Hmmmm.... Grian in Hijab.... Yes that's the shit...
i think hijabs are just for women ! i'm unsure what the male equivalent is
But ! The Watchers i write are inspired by Catholicism, his mum is a nun who veils. This is also just for women, but if he wereeee to veil then it'd be something like that--i mean not the full extent of a nun, but there are head scarves that allow hair and neck to be shown
headscarves are very pretty regardless tho <3
#ask#hijabis fr look like princesses anytime i see them on tiktok im awe struck#<- which i hope is ok to say ! i think flowing fabric is pretty#i used to draw Tommey veiling with a bandana ! pagans also veil and i think its gender neutral#also im a pretty modest person too so i always prefer drawing clothes/extra layers *_*#modesty is also a touchy subject i dont think anyone should be forced to cover.-#-you should only dress how ur comfortable. and never tell others how to either !-#-regardless of religion imo !! religion is very personal !#Catholics usually only veil within churches but it depends eh#AUGH im thinking abt kid xelqua again. always seeing his mum wear a veil so he does too. just bc hes a kid. they copy. so cuTE#in 3L he should wear a veil and no one knows he has cat ears#i think more people should write the watchers using their own religions it'd be rly interesting i think#PERSONALLY i always saw veiling as ... protection from evil eye ? i guess how i'd word it ? and less abt ~purity or whatever

Almost forgot to look at the tags in that Giordano post, I'm glad that Cardinals being higher than Archbishops was something you mentioned, and that I was remem that fact correctly :). And I love that Machete surpasses someone who thought him to be a "good for nothing". Go white boy go!
.
#that sure pissed off that old man Giordano#didn't see that one coming#becoming a bishop is a very big deal#archbishop is an extra prestigious bishop that leads a particularly important diocese#and above both are cardinals#you usually have to be a bishop first to become one but it hasn't always been strictly mandatory there's lots of rules and exceptions#I think Machete is a bishop but largely in name only#in practice he kind of shortcutted from being a priest to a cardinal with very little bishophood in between#Vatican was kind of a wild west back then and in the end it's within Pope's power to grant these titles however he sees fit#and Machete was Pope's trusted personal assistant for years#moreover if you compare church ranks to secular royalty/nobility cardinals are equal to princes#so when you look at the power dynamics they're only second to pope as well as actual kings and queens#at least that's the case in Machete and Vasco's times I'm not sure about the present day#Vasco is a count so he's actually significantly lower in the hierarchy despite being blue-blooded#but neither of them have really internalized that#when they met Vasco came from a rich family and Machete was a no-name social climber#answered#anonymous

A Pocket Full of Posies and WTF is up with Rollo's Hankie
Before we begin, a slight disclaimer: yes, Medieval beliefs about disease and how it spread were weird. They did not have the ability to know about germs because those are literally microscopic and germ theory would not be "discovered" until the 1860s. THIS DID NOT MEAN THEY WERE STUPID AND IF I SEE YOU SAYING THAT WE WILL FIGHT. Anyway-
If you have been kicking around on the internet for a bit, chances are you might have heard the "dark history" fact that that the "Ring Around the Rosey" nursery rhyme is about the Black Plague. That's probably not true but the reason it was originally theorized to be the case has to do with Miasma theory, and the use of strong scents (typically herbs and flowers) to ward off the "bad air." What does this have to do with Rollo huffing that handkerchief every time someone talks about magic? Well we'll get there but first just what the hell do I mean by bad air?
Miasma Theory in Practice
The Black Death/Bubonic Plague was a roving pandemic that gets it's name from the first wave that bitch slapped Europe from 1347-1351. There were technically three forms of plague kicking around by I am not a scientist and we are here to talk about that. Given that this was, as stated in the disclaimer, pre-germ theory the ideas people had about why this was happening and how to prevent it wildly varied, but Miasma Theory was so popular it actually stuck around long enough to duke it out with Germ Theory when scientists started talking about that.
The basic idea is that diseases like the Black Death were spread from bad smelling air. This theory was proposed by Hippocrates, as in that guy from third or fourth century Greece we aren't even sure existed, but it was a pretty universal belief, we have sources from Ancient China that also reference the idea that bad smells can make you sick. This "bad air" was thought to come from decay; in the case of the plague, dead bodies were believed to have released it (hence all the "bring out your dead" stuff), as were cracks in the earth, and sewage. ALL AIR WAS THOUGHT TO HAVE A LEVEL OF MIASMA, but smell was the best way to tell if you were in danger of getting sick; basically if it smells like shit out then you are in danger because there is only so much of it you can breathe in before you get sick. So when you end 1351 with 40% (that we can confirm!) of the population dead, how exactly do you keep yourself from huffing in all that invisible miasma?
Roi du Mouchoir
Well you make the air you breathe smell nicer of course! And this is where we get to Rollo's hankie.
The "posies" in that nursery rhyme doesn't actually refer to one specific flower. It's a type of small bouquet, which apparently are also called nosegays or tussie-mussies? It's also the technical term for those tiny groups of flowers that make up a corsage. The idea was that people would carry around things that smelled good, like flowers and herbs, and any time you smelled something bad you would bring the flower out of your pocket and hold it up to your nose just like Rollo does with his handkerchief. Literally, people usually kept those nice smelling flowers in "Plague Bags," which could refer to nicely sewn sachets or just neatly wrapped up in cloth. Eventually these got super fancy, and evolved into these really elaborate pouches people put potpourri in, but given how strict Rollo seems to be with himself (and everyone else) I've chosen in my own fan fic to interpret his posies as being the common kind, which would be rosemary and lavender. Today they are thought of as being soothing scents that calm you down, and that does seem to be what he is trying to do with all those deep breaths.
I got a lot of this specific information from this article here which is on a wonderful website curated by a professional perfumer I highly recommend poking around if you are interested in learning more.
Cool Story But?
"Sure Yuri, all of that is neat but isn't Rollo's handkerchief a reference to Esmeralda's scarf?" Yeah probably. I don't really think it has to be that deep, but I do think this stuff is cool and well-
Malleus's name is likely a reference to the Malleus Malificarum, a book I have a PDF of on my computer because of course I do that was published around the same time that this theory of disease would have been kicking around. It's about- well the author says it's about "witchcraft" but that's another paper for another time, and why they are super evil and bad and should all die. Specifically why they should all be burned at the stake, it's a fun read. And sounding oddly familiar to certain events...
That's all to say, sure it probably isn't that deep but with all the other really well researched and designed character choices, I would not be surprised if it was.
Semi Unrelated Fun Facts:
Bridal Bouquets are thought to have started, in part, as a way to ward off Miasma and keep the bride healthy on her wedding day.
Miasma theory was still super popular in the Victorian Era and lead to a lot of public clean up projects as people thought that they could get rid of disease if they got rid of all the sewage everywhere. And hey they were right, just not for the reason they thought they were.
Yes a lot of people thought the Black Plague was a punishment from God and a sign of the end times. I will remind you that 40-60% of Europe's population DIED IN FOUR YEARS. I'd assume something supernatural was out to get me too tf? Seriously these people were not stupid, they just lived in interesting times.
If you are wondering "hey I heard Plague Doctors stuffed herbs in the long beaks on their masks, is this why?" Yeah it is! Gold star!
I love you for making this far, thank you for listening to me friend and I hope to get back to entertaining you soon (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ ) ♡
#twisted wonderland#twisted wonderland x reader#glorious masquerade#glomas#rollo flamm#twst theories#the malleus malificarum is a *wild* book#did you know it was banned by the church when it was published!#i am very normal and definitely don't own an encyclopedia on demonology and witchcraft#and it is absolutely not within my line of sight as i write this

hi hello i'm early into TVM and i gotta say i'm fascinated with the concept of moral execution. it's such an interesting sort of loophole and it has a really strong Narrative Flavor about it... i was wondering if this is based on/influenced by any particular real life practices or if it's wholly original, i'd love to know more abt that thought process. i like your guys
hiiii thank you so much for asking! for everyone else's context, 'moral execution' in inver (well, suzette really, but it has spread north) is a rare religious practice whereby a member of the clergy is symbolically executed, an effigy is burnt at the stake, and the person is given funeral rites per tradition. they are then free to break church law - particularly church moral laws - in the SOLE pursuit of the church's goals, because those laws apply to the living only. typically, after the individual has completed whatever duties assigned to them, they are killed for realsies, with the gap between their symbolic execution and their real execution simply being an extension of the time it takes for the soul to leave a dead body. so the soul is considered to have left the body before those illegal duties.
the church of suzette considers experimentation with magic (particularly faery magic) to be immoral and an executable offence, so in the context of the story. this is the reason for this particular practice to take place (so the church can experiment without being accused of hypocrisy or appearing to endorse magic)
i don't want to explain TOO much about the origins but it comes from two different 'sources'. number one is all wrapped up in the dead/undead theming in the story. each of the main characters is in some way already dead to their own society, this was just islin catching up (he is, metaphorically, undead). the rangers for example are only allowed to operate because they are also in some ways legally dead. and so on. narratively, all of the main characters in the story (except jean because he's built different) are 'undead' people all trying to come to terms with their death in some way shape or form (that sounds crazy but it WILL make sense i promise)
for the practice itself i wanted something that felt believably catholic lol. the church irl is very arcane and a lot of its rituals seem extremely esoteric, and it's also a deeply hypocritical institution that breaks its own laws all the time (but what's new). i wanted to create something that sort of enshrined that core of "we condemn this, but we're also going to secretly try it out". it is an excuse for them and a handy one too but also it's rooted in genuine belief about funerary rites and practices that the suzettes hold.
it's not based directly on any real religious or cultural traditions and if it resembles any, it's unintentional
#within the church it's a reviled rank to be on. you're their pet freak and they ALL think what you're doing is sick#even the ones who ordered the execution. and gave u your duties#setting: inver#it's always crazy for me to be like 'umm here's a deep and thought provoking theme for my book about three blokes who do fuck-all'#but i promise it's there. you have no idea the amount of thought and deep symbology in every dick joke

nothing ever excites me more than a spontaneous genshin, or more particularly, mondstadt discovery. i sat diluc upon the barbatos statue as a nice spot to go afk on without being interrupted by repetitive idle animations and voicelines (sorry diluc, this is nothing personal). my volume was turned up more than regularly by accident, and my in-game music was off despite how much i like the original game soundtrack. aNYHOW- i was about to go afk when i heard some strange noises that i didn't recall hearing in mondt before. it made me pause and turn my volume up even more. in the video above, it's kind of hard to discern the brief sounds over the noise of the wind up on the statue and in mondstadt in general, but when the wind dies down a little, you can distinctly hear voices of people, and what shocked me the most – neighs of horses. i have no clue whether it is just me discovering this only now, after 4 years of playing this godforsaken game and clearly not having paid enough attention to mondstadt's sfx before, but i still felt the need to share this terribly interesting tidbit in case there's other clueless mondstadt enthusiasts like me.
#what makes me so curious about these sfx is my inability to discern the meaning behind them#the sounds in the clip can only be heard during the night‚ which inserts various questions into my head#first and foremost‚ the sounds obviously confirm the existence of horses in mondstadt. the horses that AREN'T THERE in the current timeline#the horses that PHYSICALLY have no space for them within the city‚ but that's a problem of a different kind that i want to touch upon later#what makes their situation even more curious is that they're only heard during the night‚ with no trace of them during the day#so‚ my question is – surely they wouldn't add this specific sound if they didn't plan on introducing the horses in-game at some point?#even if there was no mentions of horses in genshin whatsoever‚ except in the manga which is set prior to the game's events#aka the timeline before the beginning or during the early stages of varka's expedition considering seamus's presence in mondstadt#and if that is so‚ is the peculiar activity of horses only at night a result of them being out of the city alongside the kof during the day#next curious thing to me are the voices and shouts‚ most likely in chinese‚ that i cannot discern and that i found nothing about online yet#however‚ in my opinion‚ the shouts seem too loud for the peaceful‚ post-stormterror crisis atmosphere of mondstadt#most of the words sound as if they're spoken through a megaphone‚ repeatedly‚ like call-outs to something or somebody#and not at all like shouts of people‚ regular citizens‚ from within their homes‚ or those of random drunkards on the streets at night#during daytime‚ the chatter is more coherent and distinctly chinese‚ words they clearly didn't bother translating to other voice-overs#another random and interesting sound is of something akin to a bell chiming‚ and i don't mean the big church bell tolling like in the clip#i am eager for feedback on this‚ for any sort of help or translation to sate my curiosity#and i'm also very much open to ideas or even random interpretations as i am overflowing with them‚ too#mondstadt#old mondstadt#genshin impact#genshin brainrot#genshin headcanon#genshin ost#genshin help#wilhelminaesque

it is so disingenuous to me to try and argue Christmas can ever not be culturally Christian. its in the damn name. even as an atheist who’s never set foot in a church on Christmas and was raised extremely secularly, the culture of Secular Americans is based on the culture of Christian Americans. This is, despite platitudes asserting otherwise, a Christian nation, created by Christians, built on Christian ideals, run by Christians, and culturally dominated by Christianity. Just because the holiday is celebrated by the masses in ways stripped of spirituality does not make it a neutral cultural touchstone.
