It was a fun movie to watch. Not for family. The acting was entertaining. I really liked when she was in the killer's body. Her friends made the movie better, too. Would watch it again.

Christopher Landon - Happy Death Day 2 U (2019) A direct sequel to Happy Death Day this is, like that film, a pretty fun affair. It is a pretty direct sequel in the sense that you should really see the first film in order to take full advantage of this, much of the plot goes by the wayside if you haven't seen the first installment and little will make sense. It works almost like the second episode in a TV series, it builds and goes back to themes, characters and relationships in the first film and all the emotional impact is pretty much tied up with events that have already happened. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can pick this up randomly as in most other slasher sequel films. If the first installment focused on a Groundhog Day structure this adds on to that the idea of a multiverse created by branching timelines, it becomes a lot more like a science fiction film that the more slasher oriented first film. There's a murderer here as well, of course, so it's still a slasher/comedy/fantasy but also a science fictiony one now. The acting is all around nifty but the highlight goes again to Jessica Rothe as the main character Tree, who again is a no-nonsense girl in a crazy world and very much the hero of the story. Basically if you liked the first one this is more of the same goodness, and worth watching, if you didn't see the first one go see it and if you didn't like the first one don't watch this one. Done. I had way more fun at Happy Death Day 2U than I probably should have... sequels are usually a let down, but this is one that delivers. I loved every minute, just like the original. It’s fun, creative, inventive, and entertaining. Jessica Rothe is just so much fun to watch, her Tree Gelbman is a perfect leading heroine for this generation of horror films. She pumps up the badassery when required, but can jump right to adorable, funny, angry, sexy and/or crazy goofy when the time comes (all of which this film requires). She nails the vast acting gambit Happy Death Day 2U calls for. I really hope to see a lot more of Rothe in both horror and comedy. She is unequivocally the next Jamie Lee Curtis in waiting... The vast majority of horror film sequels are just rehashed originals. Happy Death Day 2U is rehash of sorts, but it’s kinda supposed to be... it’s well aware of this ‘number 2’ style and instead of trying to mask it, it embraces it... the fact that we have basically been here before. Where it differs is, well, instead of being just Groundhog Day horror, Happy Death Day 2U goes, let’s say, Groundhog Day meets Final Destination meets Time Cop meets Back to the Future. This HDD2 feels more sci-fi than horror, even though there is plenty stabbing, splatting and shooting. Let’s call it sci-fi-horror-thriller-comedy. It even has some very serious dramatic elements. It runs all sorts of genres and does it without feeling convoluted or confusing. Like the original, HDD2U immensely entertaining. It furthers Tree’s story, giving some explanations and then adding further twists to her rollercoaster ride of time travel loops. I liked the characters (old and new), the horror, the deaths and that baby mask is still super creepy. I like where they took things and am looking forward to where the next one goes...
