This is part of piece called the Tides. It’s inspired by the reproduction cycle of the Christmas island red crab which lives on land but gives birth in the ocean. It releases its eggs at high tide with the help of the waves and if it is lucky it does not get swept away with the current although that’s a risk that many of the species ends up drowning for. Then the little larvae crabs grow inside the water and come back up to land when the time is right and if they haven’t been turned into an energy shake for other watery predators they get to live as part of our world like Ariel wanted to for some reason... That’s until the moon decides to pull them from their mangroves and forests so they can start the cycle of suicidal birth once more.   

Ce sketch fait parti d’une illustration intitulée La Marée. Je m’inspire du cycle de reproduction des crabes rouges de l’île Christmas, qui vivent sur terre mais donnent naissance dans la mer. Ils lâchent leurs oeufs avec l’aide du movement des vagues pendant la marée haute et si ils ont de la chance, ce processus ne les tues pas (la plupart d’entre eux meurt noyer. Ça c’est dit). Ensuite les petites larves de crabes grandissent dans l’eau et a condition de ne pas finir sur le menu de certains prédateurs marins elles finissent par revenir sur terre en tant qu’adultes en attendant que le pouvoir de la lune décide qu’il est temps pour un nouveau cycle de naissances suicidaires.
