Soft piece of Chris and Ren.
There's a lot of changes they both have to figure out with his whole 'becoming and eldritch thing' , but at the end of the day they always know where they stand and that they'll always be there for each other.

Euphoria 2x05 (over all)
What can I say about this episode: it was made for Zendaya, for her and only her. In order for her to be able to receive another Emmy, which was quite disappointing, because Nika King and Storm Reid played as well as her. Even Maddy was at the top of her game.
Also, when you are a drug addict as important as Rue, in one word, a junkie, you become paranoiac, you think/believe that everyone wants to kill you or hurt you. In addition, you’ve got intestinal problem, either you are constipated or you’ve got diarrhoea. So, no I don’t think that Zendaya or Sam was realistic enough when they made this episode. One good example, when Rue opened the safe, the first thing she should have taken was the gun, then the money!
So here the list for me for the most beautiful books/movies ever made about drugs or drugs addiction: “Requiem for a dream, Trainspotting, Less than Zero, Pulp fiction, Las Vegas Parano, Kids, Bret Easton Ellis’ books, William S Burroughs (father and son)’ books, Portrait of an addict as a young man by Bill Clegg, Roman avec cocaïne par M. Ageyez, Moi, Christine F., 13 ans, droguée, prostituée par Christine F. and the list goes on. So yes, if we are talking about the same age, teenager, the movies made by Larry Clark are more realistic, strong and hard than Euphoria, as life is. They are made to show us the consequences of being an addict, and not an actrice playing an addict. For that let me give you three other example: “Jared Leto in Requiem for a Dream”, “Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction” or “Aaron Paul (aka Jesse) in Breaking Bad”.
Now, more in depth with the episode 5, there was no flashback (beside her saying some words at her father funeral) nor Rue’s narrator voice. Finally, I don’t know if I miss that, but I wish we’ll get one from her sister, Gia.
Also, the first place Rue’s got is to Fez, but he is not there. When she comes back, he opened the door this time. Remember in season one, when he wouldn’t even let her in. Something changed, because I don’t believe that he didn’t know that Rue relapse. (I will write something else about them in this episode).
Furthermore, she can enter uninvited to Lexi and Cassie’s house and everyone is happy to see her, but she is not invited to Maddy’s birthday party. WTF.
In addition, what is it with Rue and Dogs? What about the coyote on the tennis court?
Regarding the rest, I will post other thoughts separated.

Futures of the Past: An Anthology of Science Fiction Stories from the 19th and Early 20th Centuries, with Critical Essays, edited by Ivy Roberts, McFarland, 2020. Cover illustration by Harry Frank Dart, info: mcfarlandbooks.com.

Critical introductions written by international experts contextualize these stories from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Inclusions range from legendary authors like Mary Shelley and Edgar Allan Poe to lesser-known figures like E.P Mitchell, George Parsons Lathrop, and Franklin Ruth.

Star Wars Day- A Memorial
Happy National Star Wars Day, everyone!
Last year, I commemorated this day by beginning a 14 week-long project, in which I reviewed all existing Star Wars movies. Of course, since Episode 9- Rise of Skywalker won’t be out until December, it will be a while longer before I can review that one.
So this year, I decided to take a moment to look back and remember all the Star Wars cast and crew we have lost throughout the years. Because without their time and talent, the timeless saga might never have become the phenomenon it has become.

Philip Glass (231 2nd Ave., New York, NY, 100120) would like you to send him images of the ceilings of mosques. William S Burroughs (8 Duke St., St James, London SW 1) needs ideas for camouflage in 1984. Arthur Erickson (4195 West 14th Ave, Vancouver, BC) requests images of the Titanic sinking. Anna Banana, godmother of plantain mail art and town-foolery (44 West 6th Ave., Vancouver, BC) asks for “Images of foolish things, images and information on bananas - everything you ever dreamt about bananas, Queen of Hearts images”. Sol Lewitt (117 Hester Street, New York, NY, 10002) asks that you send him the ends of your old pencils for sharpening. Robert Filliou (Territoire de la République Géniale, 306, St. Jeannet, France) requests that all give his love Miss Honey, c/o General Idea, 87 Yonge St., Toronto, Ontario), while Miss Honey (c/o the aforementioned address) is simply “looking for any colour or size feather boa”. Illustrator Stephen Czernecki (then of 3-48 Roslyn Rd, Winnipeg, Manitoba, now a Vancouverite and Paper Hound habitué) claims no memory of why he was soliciting “open wound images”, but speculates that it might have been related to the contemporary consumption of certain hallucinogenics.
Sort of a Fluxus phone book for the mail art set, the International Image Exchange Directory was published by our friends Talonbooks in 1972. Tomorrow they are launching their Fall poetry line-up at Pyatt Hall with readings by Fred Wah, Rita Wong, Wanda John-Kehewin, Tiziana La Melia, Ted Byrne, and Christine Stewart. We will be there selling poetry, but we are open to collecting names, addresses, and ephemeral desiderata from those wishing to make getting mail weird again.
