ACADEMY AWARD ® NOMINEE - BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM
Hilarious and genre-mashing, an imaginative fifteen year-old is stubbornly determined to lose her virginity despite the pathetic pickings in the outskirts of Houston in the early 90’s. This charming, animated, retro-romantic-comedy pulls no punches with its female-forward look at sexual awakening. Created by Pamela Ribon from her critically-acclaimed memoir.

Romantic Movies
“The two greatest passion in my life. Movies, and Romance. I adore it when the two come together. I adore romantic movies. I adore celebrity couples who met on set. I adore movies. I adore love. I adore the two in such a way, that I cannot decipher which one I love more. Maybe I love them equally, and I won't give up until I have enough of them both. At least that’s what I’d like to believe. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t feel an unrelenting desire for these two driving forces in my life, and it might be fair to assume they developed around the same time. My father is an amazing man, and he did me a service I hope to pass on someday. That is he exposed me to some incredible films growing up. And I mean films of all genres, all kinds of directors, from all different years. It’s easily where my love for film started, but as I have recently learned there aren’t many more than 10 basic plots to movies, and a driving force in a very large portion of these plots is love. Love raises stakes and it gives our hero something to fight for. And aren’t we all searching for something to fight for? So maybe I can blame my subconscious for planting these ideas in my head, but no matter the root cause that fact remains the same. Movies and Love. Movies are simple. I walk out into my hallway and look at my extensive collection of over 150 films and I can choose from a variety of genres, directors, and years, just like my father would have me do. I study ImDb, learn actors names, and study their craft and movies play a very large part in my life. But what about Love? What about the driving force in these movies? How does that come into play? Well I wish I knew. It is very safe to say that I have seen an overwhelming amount of films in my lifetime. The amount of time it would take to watch every film in my personal collection without breaking exceeds a week alone. And because of the amount of films I’ve studied, I have developed a saying. “Whoever said that life is not like the movies clearly wasn’t paying attention.” I say this often, because I truly believe it. Without knowing its true origins, it is safe to assume the original saying “Life isn’t like the movies” stems from this idea, that in real life things don’t work out like they do in the movies. Happy endings, and Deus ex machina for example. The reason I combat this idea is because films are a confined space, and life is a never ending experience. Sometimes life takes a little while to catch up, but things always work out the way they are supposed to, and all endings that are not happy, are not true endings. Because everything is always okay in the end. I need to remind myself of this often, because I’m still searching for love. I watch these heros fall in love, and I watch their Deus Ex Machina happy ending that works out just as it should, and I cannot help but wish, hope, and dream that this would be reflected in my life. I’m not very good at love. I think I love it too much, because all I want to do is jump into it, be overwhelmed with it, and let it be the driving force in my life, but I’ve come to learn that most people aren't as absolutely love crazed as I am, and it scares people away. I will continue to tell myself that my happy ending is coming. That my love will soon arrive. And I will hope that my story doesn’t end with me sitting alone in my apartment watching yet another Romantic Movie. “ -Chris Elsenbroek
