When she saw the news, her heart sunk into her stomach. It couldn’t be true, right? Right? Without any other thoughts in her mind, Bea ran out of her house and down the street. She had to make sure for herself. It was true, Leiko hadn’t texted her last night, but she just assumed she was tired. That happened sometimes. She couldn’t just be gone, right?

Though arriving at her girlfriend’s house all but confirmed her fears. Law enforcement had the run of the place, a couple moving about on the roof, some inspecting the perimeter, and still more moving in and out of the building. After looking on in terror for a minute, she caught sight of Chiyo coming out the front door with a detective. Once the other noticed her, she appeared to dismiss herself and jog over.

“Bea, hi. I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Yeah, I um... I heard the news. I couldn’t believe it until I saw it with my own eyes.”

“Oh shoot, I knew I forgot something. Sorry, I meant to give you a call, but things have just been so busy.”

“No, no don’t apologize. I-I get it. I’m just... I can’t believe it. Why would she just leave like that?”

“Oh, right. They didn’t say everything on the news, did they? That figures. Well, I think you deserve to know everything. She didn’t just leave. There were signs of a break-in.”

“B-... break-in? You d-don’t mean....”

“I’m... afraid I do. We suspect abduction.”

“No....” It was at this point that Bea couldn’t hold it back anymore. Her body shuddered slightly as she began to softly weep. Her eyes were shut tight, but she could feel the gentle embrace of the other girl as Chiyo attempted to comfort her. It was unusual behavior, but that was the last thing Bea was thinking about right now.

“It’s okay,” she cooed. “She’s still out there somewhere. We just have to stay hopeful. I’m sure we’ll find her.”

“It-, it’s just not fair!” she forced out between sobs. “Why her?! Why Leiko?!” Unfortunately, that wasn’t a question anyone seemed to have an answer to. Asking them didn’t quell the tumultuous storm of anger, confusion, and despair in her heart either. The only thing she was able to do now was cry. She remained locked in this embrace for some time, letting her emotions pour from her face.

Never before had she felt so powerless.

Meeting a Hero

The Ishii twins were once again in the park, Leiko doing basic drills with her Hecaball while she and Chiyo spoke in code. Being as high profile as they were in the district, they were used to having their business interrupted. That’s why they weren’t surprised at all when they were approached by a particularly excitable young woman.

“Leiko Ishii!? In the flesh!?” The girl full-on ran up to the athlete, skidding to a stop in front of her.

“That’s me!” Leiko said with a smile, turning toward her fan.

“Omigosh, I’m like, your biggest fan!” The girl was practically bouncing in place as she spoke, her energy just flowing out of her in waves. “Can I get your autograph?”

“Sure!” Leiko reached into her pocket and pulled out a little autograph pad with a pen. “Who should I make it out to?”

“Oh, right, um, Bea! My name’s Bea! Short for Beatrix, but you can just call me Bea!” She was definitely just saying words to prolong the amount of time she was speaking to the athlete at this point, and she wasn’t even trying to hide it.

“Aw, what a cute name~!” Leiko said with a bit of a playful smirk. “I like your horns too, is that an augment of some kind?”

“O-Oh, you like them?” Bea reached up and ran her hand along one of the metal spikes jutting from her head. “Yeah, I just got them a little while ago. I just think that they’re cool, you know? They don’t do anything, and my mom made sure they weren’t gonna be sharp, but I just like having them. I wonder why more people in the district don’t have some kind of augment.”

“Me too actually. There’s a lot of cool ones to choose from. Yours are pretty unique though, you don’t see many people with something that out-there.”

“Thanks! I tried to pick something not many people had. Makes it feel more special. I’ll probably be getting more though, I think I’m kind of addicted.” She let out a nervous chuckle at that, clearly hoping that didn’t come off as weird.

“Yeah, I kinda wish I could get some myself sometimes. It’s a shame. Anyway, here’s your autograph!” She tore the page out of the book, handing over the note. It read, “To Bea, my #1 fan! Never stop being yourself!“ and even had a little heart at the end to punctuate the message.

Bea read the note, smiling widely and holding it close to her chest.

“Thank you so much! I’ll never forget this! You’re the best!”

“Anytime! Don’t be a stranger if you catch me after a game either!” Leiko waved as she bid the girl farewell and they went their separate ways. After she was out of earshot, Chiyo came up behind her sister, speaking softly.

“Fascinating... the Vinke girl idolizes you,” she offered.

“Hm? You know her?”

“Not personally, though I know of her. She seldom left her home until some time ago, and took roughly two years away from the district. Rumors state that she underwent some sort of medical procedure at the University hospital. And now she’s back, ambulatory, and visibly augmented. Quite curious.”

“Huh, that is weird. Did she seem like, super into me too?”

“Indeed. She may be one to keep an eye on. Perhaps she may be useful in the future. Idolatry can be a powerful motivator, and can guide one’s hand to serve their hero.”

My little niece said something so profound the other day. She said— with all her 13-year-old wisdom; that she can’t relate to any female character in Naruto. At all. You see, I’m not fifteen anymore, so all of my animosity towards the female characters in Naruto has relatively died down over the years, mainly because I stopped watching it after the manga has ended. watching the series now objectively is really weird to me. Like… really weird.

Then how is it that this claim of 'Kishimoto is a Misogynist because he did dirty to Sakura and Hinata' holds absolute truth???

There is this wonderful movie called Kill Bill which was directed by Quentin Tarantino. I swear it's one of the best commercial movie which passes the Bechdel Test with flying colours. Theres literally 5 women characters who were written with such a care and flair.

Among them, O Ren Ishii is my All time Favorite woman Character in the entire media. Like I am devoted her to the point of building a Worshipping hall for her. And none of women fight for getting an affection from a Dick. All of them were given such a vibrant personality with 80% of the screentime.

With the way this movie was written, you can even say Quentin Tarantino is a Feminist.

But do you know what he did to his Co Star Uma Thurman in real life???

He quite literally forced her to perform a difficult stunt that could take her life if not careful. And as it happens, she got crashed into a tree that almost killed her.

So, A director who made a movie about woman empowerment has no concern for a woman in real life and was even willing to let her die if that could get his job right????

So Tarantino is not a Feminist that he projected through his movie... At best, He is a wonderful creative artist.

Why just slandering Kishimoto but not those Smutty novel writers or doujinkas????

You know it's bad when your main female characters' goal is based around trying to build a romantic relation with a main male character

And Tsunade literally carried Dan's and her brother Nawaki's dream to become an Hokage... So, it's very logical for her to see her boyfriend finally becoming an Hokage in a Tsukuyomi Dream.

Wasn't it enough for you that Kishimoto actually made Tsunade as a Hokage for 80% of the series??? Not just a simple Hokage, but a strongest Kage who took literal stabs from Madara and she was the only kage who saved all other kages by lending her chakra (eventhough her body was sliced into half) after Madara knocked them all out???

Why do you badly want Hinata to have more scenes in a Gay Manga???? Like how does that helps SNS???? Gay media means A media that portrays Love and Relationship between 2 male characters... Kishimoto will do anything if that means that could prop up Naruto and Sasuke... Because this story is about them.

He created Sakura to compare and contrast Naruto's similar feelings towards Sasuke...

He created Hinata to compare and contrast Sasuke's similar feelings towards Naruto...

He created Obito to show how Naruto would've turned out had he lost Iruka and Sasuke...

He created Hashirama and Madara to compare and contrast their similarities and differences with Naruto and Sasuke.

Like everything Kishi does, he does it to serve only Naruto and Sasuke... But why do you want Hinata to change her clan and have prominent role in a manga filled with Gay characters??? But Claymore, A shounen manga has more strong woman characters than any other Manga... But why nobody is talking about it???

Mario, a manga which was written by Kishimoto himself. He literally made Saori into the MVP of that manga... Like the story won't move if there is no Saori (AKA A female version of Sasuke)... But why nobody is appreciating his work???

Why everything has to be about Hinata and Sakura??? Because they are associated with the Main Characters??? So, A Woman gains her importance only through A Man... I just don't get this Logic.

Here's why I don't think Kishimoto is a Misogynistic Monster, this fandom portrays him to be.

1. He wrote Tsunade, a secondary side character to have a dream that has nothing to do with a Man... Fulfilled it successfully like a boss... Then carried his loved one's dream and truly became an Hokage. While Tsunade was fulfilling a dream after another, Jiraiya was wandering aimlessly... Kakashi explicitly told he doesn't have a dream.

A character to have her own arc... A character to have a solo fight with 2 main villains of this series... (Million times better written than Sakura and Hinata)

2. He wrote Konan, a secondary side character... Only woman Akatsuki member... Had a notable fight with the main villain of this series and almost killed him... (If only he wasn't an Uchiha... he would be dead already)... (She did more than what Hinata did in the entire series)

3. HE WROTE SAORI, A FEM VERSION OF SASUKE.

4. He never sexualized little girls... However he sexualized Sasuke and Sai though.

5. He never idolized Hinata as the ideal woman as the Dudebros wanks for her to be. However, he idolized Saori kind of woman in his works. Which shows he likes women to be strong.

6. His portrayal of women characters in Road to Ninja and Mario is worthy to be noted. Other than Hinata and Sakura, his portrayal of women characters in Naruto is pretty decent.

7. If Kishi made Sakura to feel inferior with Hinata's boobs... Then he also made Naruto to feel inferior with his short ding dong...

8. If Kishi made Kurenai's dad to instruct his daughter to bore him a Grandson, then he also made Hashirama to instruct his clansmen to promise on their Grandsons that they won't kill Madara. Meaning, It's a Pro Natalist comment irrespective of Gender.

9. A culture which promotes Marriage and to have kids... Tsunade remained single.

10. He literally made Shikamaru to have a draw with Temari in Chunin Exams... He made Temari to protect Shikamaru's ass in the Sasuke retrieval arc... Meaning, Shikamaru and Temari are equals. So, you are calling an Author as a misogynist who created Hetero Couples who are equals... Like DanTsunade, ShikaTema, Mario/Saori, Minato/Kushina (in RTN movie)????

If you want me to say Kishi is a Misogynist, then all the above 10 points shouldn't exist...

Kishimoto could've easily wrote Hinata to have more scenes like changing her clan and whatnot + A Big boobed bimbo + An Ideal Waifu whose only job is to satisfy Naruto + Naruto living happily with his beautiful but a bimbo wife... This version of Hinata's portrayal would have made me tag this author as a shitty misogynist...

But that's not the case...

Considering his positives cancels out the negatives... He should be deemed as a neutral instead of tagging him as Negative.

And hence, Kishimoto is an In Between.

I’ve actually thought about this because there is an Easter Egg self insert in the “I Am...” series with the quirk. Chiyoe Ishii, Quirk: Hammerspace

Sort of like how cartoons reach behind themselves and pull out an item. She’s able to reach someplace and pull a nearby item to her. Also, she has a purse-sized pocket space that she can store items in. The drawback of her quirk is she tends to forget where she puts things as soon as she puts them down (just like me lol).

The Ishii twins’ arrival was perhaps a bit more understated than some other guests to the party, but they were dressed to impress regardless. They pleasantly smiled at the cameras as they ran through their interviews.

“Hello! I’m Leiko Ishii, you might’ve heard of me from the Cherry Hills Knights.” She did a little spin to show off her dress, stopping with a bit of a pose. She may have been at an extremely formal event, but that didn’t stifle her spontaneity.

“And I am her sister, Chiyo.” A slight bow followed, not wanting to crease her dress too much. “While not quite as noteworthy, I am a cheerleader for the Knights. We are honored to attend this prestigious event, it is quite the first for us.”

“I can’t wait to see the fashion show personally! I’ve been a fan of the Lavenders’ work for a long time now, and to be able to see new designs in person is almost a dream come true for me!”

“Indeed, it’s an exciting opportunity! I’m looking forward to mingling with the ‘who’s-who’ of Apricus, so-to-speak. So many interesting people all gathered in one place, surely there will be interesting things to share, no? Not to mention Ms. Nava Lavender herself stepping into the limelight. We’re extremely fortunate to be a part of this momentous occasion!”

Upon finishing their short interviews, the pair each waved, smiling pleasantly as the entered.

The twins were of course at the fan-fest. The two were dressed surprisingly casually, Chiyo wearing a long sleeved cheer uniform for the Knights, and Leiko sporting her own novelty jersey, tied in the back with a hair tie. There would be no mistaking them for anyone other than the Ishiis.

Taking Steps Forward

Gin’s Tonic. The quaint little bar nestled in the middle of Aurora Vale was a locale that was quite familiar to the Ishiis. Leiko enjoyed showing off for and socializing with all of the bargoers, making excellent use of her celebrity status. Chiyo had her own reasons for coming out all this way however. She sat at the bar, looking over the scene. Leiko and Bea darted around rubbing elbows, bragging to everyone how Bea was going to be the next big thing for the Knights. She hadn’t wanted to bring the girl, but it didn’t hurt at all to get her a little exposure before her debut. Besides, if they were to play to the angle that the two were involved, they would obviously have to make appearances together.

Chiyo sipped at her drink thoughtfully. As much as she wasn’t generally a fan of these settings, but she did have to admit she was going to miss these outings. Despite the noise, it was almost a serene sight to overlook the merriment of her sister as she gallivanted around the place. Almost felt peaceful. After a time, she finished her drink and stood, turning to address the bartender.

“As always Gin, your service never fails to satisfy! Thank you for the drink, I’m going to go have a word with Ray now if that’s alright.”

“Sure thing. I’ll keep an eye on those two while you’re gone, make sure they don’t stir up too much of a ruckus.”

Chiyo nodded with a smile. It was a joke, she was well aware. At no point was she ever worried that Leiko or Bea would cause a scene. In any event, she had business to attend to, and so she followed the familiar path to the backrooms, where she rapped her knuckles against the door gently. Upon hearing the gruff, “Come on in,” she opened the door and entered. Before her were three figures, two of which were familiar.

“Come on man, I’m here on business right? The least you could do is offer me one drink. That’s all I’m really askin’ for. I mean, I came all this way, right?”

“Drinks ain’t free. Cough up the creds, then we’ll talk.”

“Has anyone told you you’re no fun?”

“Ain’t my job to be fun. If that’s what you’re after, talk to Gin.” Ray crossed his arms in irritation before turning to look at Chiyo. “‘bout damn time ya’ showed up. This chick’s been drivin’ me up the fuckin’ wall.”

“It’s about all I got a license for, so might as well use it right?”

“I take it this is who you wanted me to meet?” Chiyo asked, casting her gaze over to Celadon.

“Sure is,” Celadon replied, stepping away from the corner they’d been silently occupying up until this point. “Ray, if you could excuse us for a moment?”

“Whatever. I’ll go check on the bar I guess.” The man stood, casually strolling over to the door and stepping out, one hand tucked into a pocket. No one spoke until a few moments after he was gone.

“Damn, hate to see him go, but love to watch him walk away. Shame he’s taken, eh?”

Instead of answering that particular question, Chiyo looked over the girl before her. She was not at all what she expected when she’d heard there was a cybernetic savant that could aid their cause. The girl was likely the same age as she, scrawny, pale, vulgar, though she supposed that last point was common with mechanics.

“So, you’re Sprocket, correct?” she posited. “I hear you have quite the gift in regards to augmentation.”

“That’s me! Been doin’ augs for years now, never had one dissatisfied customer. Usually I do consultations at my shop, but I was told this was a special opportunity, just had to meet here.”

“Indeed, due to matters of discretion, I unfortunately can not venture far from areas I typically frequent. Likewise, my work requires that I approve all help personally to ensure we will run a tight ship so-to-speak. I have been informed that your standard modus opperendi is to not ask questions.”

“Yeah, questions are dangerous where I work. I sell people what they want, install what they want. Ask what they’re usin’ it for? That ends with my head on a stick. So what do you need hooked up anyway?”

“Nothing for myself actually, another client will be the one receiving the procedure. The specifics of what exactly will be installed will be disclosed at a later time, but this will be considered a ‘full conversion’ if you will. I trust you will be up to the task?”

“’Full conversion’? What, like they want to be a robot or somethin’?”

“A simplistic way to put it, but more or less. We are already in possession of the augments that would need to be installed, we just need to know if you’d be up to the task. And also that you would not disclose this transaction to anyone outside of this room.”

“Hey, as long as they’re even a little bit more put together than the braindead chrome junkies that usually ask me to do that shit, should be easy as pie. Gonna tell ya’ right now though, it ain’t gonna be quick or cheap. You might have all the shit ya’ need, but that level of modding out needs to be done slowly. Rush it, and client’s gonna flatline. Simple as that. As such, I’ll need the extra cash to keep 'em fed while they’re taking up a bed in my ‘clinic’.”

“I assure you that neither time nor money is an issue, only that it is possible. Though it sounds as though you are quite confident in your abilities, and your name had quite the high praise from Celadon. So, if you are interested, then I will pass the job to you. You will be contacted within the month with a proposed time frame of when the process will begin. We will slowly move our resources to your shop so that you may familiarize yourself with the tech before installation, then when the time comes, the client will be delivered.”

“Long as you’re sure. It’s gonna run ya’ a pretty penny for sure. In any case, the terms seem pretty good. I get a fat paycheck, and I don’t even gotta use any of my own stock. Sounds like a win-win to me.”

“Since it sounds like we’re wrapping up now, before you go, take this.” Celadon handed over a small box with a fingerprint scanner to Chiyo. “From your ‘family’. We’ll be in touch.”

Chiyo took the box earnestly. Of course she knew exactly what it was. Family was just a cover.

“Thank you very much Celadon, you’ve been a dear as always.” She then turned to take her own leave, stopping in front of the door and looking over her shoulder. “Oh, and Sprocket, I have exceedingly high expectations for you. Please don’t let me down.” And with that, she stepped out the door and returned to the bar. She wasn’t quite ready to collect her entourage just yet. Let them have their fun while they still could. Youth was only experienced once after all.

After Chiyo was gone, Sprocket let out a lighthearted laugh and turned to Celadon.

“Sheesh, major weirdo vibes from her, am I right?”

“Don’t you have a sewer to crawl back into?”

“Um, wow. Okay, rude? Point taken though, I should probably head home.”

“Yes. You should.”

Alabaster was strolling down the street, grocery bags in hand. Not only did she need a few things for herself, but they did have a show tomorrow, and it never hurt to make sure the liquor cabinet was well stocked. She was humming nonchalantly when a voice rang out from an alley nearby.

“Long time no see, Ali.” The individual said as they stepped from the shadows.

“Gah! Who-, Cel?! For the love of, don’t sneak up on people like that, you damn near made me jump out of my socks!”

“Sorry, force of habit. Try to stay away from crowds and all that. How have you been Ali?”

“Well, when I’m not getting scared half to death by old friends, I’d say I’ve been doing pretty swell. Twice in the last week, I can’t believe this.”

“I take it Fen came to talk to you? Makes sense, she never liked to be one-upped. I should’ve expected that. She told you I was looking for you then?”

“Yes, showed up at that Yukon hotel opening just to let me know ahead of time. By the way, can we at least walk and talk? These bags are heavy.”

“I’ll make it quick then. There’s something I need you to help me with. A job in a sense.”

“Really. What even is it that you do? I’m not a bounty hunter so don’t expect me to be able to do any heavy lifting.”

“Don’t worry, I’m not one either. I do odd jobs mostly, lots of deliveries and stuff. I’m kind of like a freelance courier if that makes sense. What I need help with is one of those deliveries.”

“What’s stopping you from just making it yourself?”

“The Cherry Hills Homeowner’s Association. Can’t really get through the gates myself, so I need someone who lives there to take it in for me.”

“And am I that someone for you? I can’t get in there either, unless they invite me to do a concert or something.”

“Let me ask you something Ali, your show tomorrow, The Year Without A Solstice, one of the actors is Sable Luna, correct?”

“So not only are you trying to pawn your delivery off on me, but you’re also trying to get me to pawn it off onto someone else? This feels low, Cel, I’m not going to lie to you.”

“What if I told you that the package’s recipient is someone that Luna’s already acquainted with, or two someones rather? Chiyo and Leiko Ishii.”

“Ishii? Like the Hecaball player that ended up in the Morely movie?”

“Just the same. It’s a gift from their relatives out of the city. I’d hate for them to not get it, you know? They already know to expect it too, so it’s not like it’ll be a random surprise.”

“What about asking Sable yourself? Why go through me?”

“You know how I am with new people Ali. Besides, I’m sure it’d weird her out just as much if some stranger came up to her and told her to give a package to her friend. It’d be a lot less awkward if you asked her. Plus, I can always sweeten the deal by tossing a few credits both of your ways for helping out.”

“How much?”

“200. Each.”

“200?! So you’d give 400 credits out of your paycheck just to make sure this package gets where it needs to?”

“Hey, they’re Cherry Hills kids for a reason. It’s not going to hurt my bottom line much. Plus, I was told it was very important for them to get this package. Old family stuff.”

“You know, this is still really weird, I do have to make sure you know this and to not expect it in the future, but I’ll help you out this time. If you can though, at least give me the advance payment for Sable, since I’m not sure when I’ll get to see her again after the show.”

“Deal.” They smirked, and walked over, pulling a small, black metal box out of their bag. The edges were lined in silver, and the front had an 8 digit combination lock on it. Celadon took the box, along with the requested credits, and handed them over to Alabaster.

Alabaster took a hold of the box and looked it over briefly. Strange, how nearly featureless it was. Analog locks were also extremely uncommon these days. What a peculiar little thing. She put it into her own bag and looked back at her old friend, only to find they were already walking back into the alley.

“Pleasure doing business, buddy. Break a leg tomorrow.” And with that, they faded away into the shadows.
