#Chisaki’s perception of humanity

HELLO HI YOU MENTIONED CHISAKI HAVING A COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP WITH HUMANITY AND I AM HERE TO HAPPY RANT ABOUT IT
it's like 2:30am and i should have gone to bed a while ago so this is gonna be a lil incoherent probably but anyways. yes. 100% yes i love that. i have so many ideas bouncing around my head about chisaki not being human, or like getting some secondary quirk in a secondary quirk wave that *makes* him (in his eyes) less than/not quite human, and also i sometimes use it/its pronouns for him because Reasons (i am projecting my own use of it/its onto him), and I also headcanon him as a) FtMtX (third gender/maverique), b) aroallo and gay and romance-repulsed, and c) autistic + low emotional empathy, and all of those things would 100% play into having a complicated and not-entirely-positive relationship with humanity in general (and his own humanity!) ESPECIALLY given that he spent formative years in the yakuza, which is bound to be a wildly conservative organization and an environment EXTREMELY hostile to several of those core immutable traits. ykno?
anyways you mentioned him having a complex relationship to other people/humans and humanity in general like he doesn't consider himself one so that's what prompted this. also please rant back i want to hear e v e r y t h i n g
Oh my god oh my god YES!! Okay I actually just woke up (yes my sleep schedule is fucked rn) so this is most definitely not gonna be coherent either buuut bro that is SO SIMILAR TO EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKINGGG
Okay this is by far the most difficult topic for me to try to articulate/explain bc I don’t really know how to, but I will try my damndest!! Yes. I think Chisaki has a very, very complicated relationship with both his own humanity and humanity as whole, in the way that he like. Does not view himself as human, and does not think of humans as the same as him, because they are on, like, separate playing fields. It’s not that he necessarily thinks of everyone else as worthless, or that he’s above them inherently (unequal)—he believes himself to be in a sort of limbo. He is neither worthless nor worthy. He is not human, therefore he cannot adhere to the same principles and standards of humanity. He is not human, and that is why he is never treated like one.
I think he subconsciously detached himself from it. He hated how the one person he (subconsciously) thought would one day view him as human and accept him, called him a monster and outcast him, like everyone else. The one person who showed him kindness with no catch (in his mind, because… yikes). That’s when he fully accepted that he’ll never be seen as human, that he is not human, and will never be treated like something with value/emotion, like something mortal and thinking and multi-dimensional, which is why he finally decided to just take matters into his own hands, with no regard to anything else. Why follow the morals of humans if he is not one? You don’t expect a wild animal not to maul you. Because for an animal, it is necessary. There’s no malice. They hunt and kill you because they need to eat and feed and protect. Is that not him? Is he not doing all this out of necessity? To keep himself and his family alive?
(Although, he doesn’t perceive himself as an animal. Just as not human). He believes he can’t be human. He believes he can no longer allow himself to be human anyway, because being human is too large an obstacle to his goals. He has to be a monster.
And kinda on the side of how he perceives other humans—it’s like, he’s more vital than them to the plan (which is the most important thing in the world), so he is above them in the way they are pawns whereas the plan cannot happen without him and Eri. But it’s dependent on his quirk, bc without his quirk, he is no longer Overhaul, who is the one who is vital to the plan; he is just Chisaki Kai. Chisaki Kai was not vital to anything and was just some not-really-human with a debt to pay off. Chisaki Kai is not worthwhile. Chisaki Kai is below other, real humans. So it’s split—Overhaul is above everyone else (in importance, in the fact he is not human. He is a monster). Chisaki Kai is below everyone else (he is indebted and clinging to the dregs of humanity he wants to have). The common ground is that both Overhaul and Chisaki Kai are inhuman accessories to the Shie Hassaikai. The Shie Hassaikai is more important than them.
He does not yearn to be human, he yearns for the casual acceptance and belonging that comes alongside being human. Humans have never treated him like how they treat other humans. He is not human.
Uggfhhhh I can’t tell if I’m explaining this exactly how I mean it. My vocabulary is just lacking I fear 😭 I have trouble streamlining my thoughts a lot. I feel like I have more to say but no way to properly express it, I guess. Also all your headcanons are extremely real and definitely add onto this/play a part in it!! I cannot imagine that the Yakuza would be all that accepting/an at all safe environment (ah. Well. That’s not true bc I have lol. I don’t like making sad stories 💀 but in canon… definitely not. Especially with Pops’ apparent falling-out with his daughter over her marriage 😒).
I don’t know if this all is what you had in mind or not but I think it has at least some semblance to what I think some of his mindsets are. My brain is a lil fried though. Also please please please elaborate. On everything. I wanna hear all your takes

Hello so I had this random idea at 2am:
Everyone talks shit on Kai's anime hairline, right? What if he hears one of the bullets saying something and before he can take out his anger on them he sees his s/o drag them away (for example Kurono being an escort in public) and he just kinda goes to his office and sits there thinking over it and he gets insecure about it (and very confused why he's insecure about it.) And his s/o comes back and helps the man feel better about it.
Whatcha think? This possible to even happen?
(Is it possible to happen? Well it is now lol)
~Insecure Kai and His Hairline~
headcanon|scenario|imagine|match-up
4:00 p.m and the day was moving along swimmingly...well, as swimmingly as a day of business could go for the yakuza. Kai finished some morning paperwork, and set up a schedule to meet with another group that evening before his shift ended. He also scheduled a few shake downs for Setsuno, Hojo, and Tabe to handle. On top of that, he was busy moving a few things around to be pushed into other areas (he need not say). As he walked down the hallways feeling fairly proud of his achievements for the day, he caught wind of his name being thrown around from Deidoro’s mouth to Rappa. He usually didn’t care about small talk or gossip as long as the workers got their job done, but he was rather curious to see why he was apart of the conversation. Therefore, he paused and put his back against the wall just before the corner ended so he could listen to what his precepts might’ve been saying.
“I’m just saying, if I were him that I wouldn’t try that slick back style anymore. That shit looked a little ridiculous.” Deidoro spoke in between sipping his alcohol.
“Hey watch it! If the grand and might OverHOLE catches you saying that shit, he’ll have your head on a platter.” Rappa said sarcastically.
“Ah fuck it, what are the chances of that right? Besides, he’s been killing a lot less with Y/N around. Anyway, just hear me out. The boss looking a little good in Y/N’s eyes right? I hear it from random female and male and non binary yakuza members from other groups as well. They always mention his looks and how handsome he is. But like...that recent big ass meeting we had? His haircut was NOT fucking suited for the slick back look. His hairline is like the American basketball player Lebron James.”
“Damn man, I don’t like him either but I’m not gonna roast him this bad.”
“No serious! This aint a damn roast, it’s facts. I bet by the time boss hits 30, he’s gonna be balding.”
Both men laughed while Kai could feel his blood boiling. Was he some sort of fucking joke now?! Just because he had gone a little soft and started to show sympathy and appreciation for his men doesn’t mean he is to be taken lightly. He was slipping his gloves off at the very moment to go show Deidoro and Rappa a thing or two when suddenly your voice appeared.
“Deidoro! Get upstairs to the top level right now and clean that mess up you made, and I MEAN IT. Rappa, you’ve got to come with me today because we’re picking up some new furniture and Overhaul told me last week if we go through with it that I wasn’t allowed to lift it myself. Sorry bud.”
“Why apologize to me? I’m down for some heavy lifting any day!” And then silence as the three walked away. Kai could always wait until you leave with Rappa to handle Deidoro but there isn’t time to stalk and kill his employees. Plus this was confined talk so he’d fess up to eavesdropping and you’d probably get upset at him for it. He sighed in annoyance and stomped back to his office, silently hoping for someone to step out of line on his way so he could absolutely destroy them. Once back inside his office he buried himself in mindless busy-work to distract himself from the anger. It worked for a moment...but his anger had shifted from annoyance to some other feeling...in fact the feeling could best be known as insecurity. That couldn’t be right??? Could it? Throughout the day he found himself stopping to look at his hair in the small mirror inside his desk drawer. Eventually it became so constant that he shifted towards keeping the mirror propped up on his desk so he could work and keep peeking over and over. With each peek at his hair, his perception of himself shifted more and more until the voice in his head began nagging at him that this imperfection was real and it was very VERY obvious. At times it was the only thing he could see when he looked at himself. He couldn’t remember exactly what he looked like when the day began. He groaned and reached out to fling the mirror across the room. Just as you opened the door to greet him, it slammed against the wall next to you and shattered.
“Uhhhh...bad time?” You laughed nervously as he gripped the sides of his head and sighed. “Angel please leave...I’m not feeling very well and I think I’m sick.”
“Oh stop it, you know I can tell when you’re really sick. Anyway, I was just coming down here to tell you I was heading out to get furniture. I’m bringing Rappa with me like you asked, but I figured I could bring Deidoro instead of Nemoto since Shin has stuff to do back here and Rappa seemed attached at the hip with Deidoro today.”
“Do as you wish with them. I could care less if they died...”
“Okay now I know something is up. Chisaki please talk to me, I don’t like it when you feel like you have to hide stuff from me. I can see you’re bothered by something and I don’t think Pops or the other group’s leader will like the meeting coming up with you being so dismissive on things. Please talk to me?”
He sighed and looked up at you with dull eyes. “Angel...am I still attractive to you?” Kai silently begged you’d have the answer he wanted. “Kai if you ever ask me a question that stupid again, I will physically harm you.” He smirked and shook his head. “Well of course you’d think that. Just earlier I caught Deidoro and Rappa speaking about the current state of my hairline today and-”
“Ohhhh Oh my Gosh they were talking about it upstairs earlier and it was so funny I...” You paused when you saw his lip just barely jutting out in a pout from under his fabric mask. “Oh my God Kai, that was just locker room teasing. They were just making jokes is all. They sit around and roast everyone to keep from being bored. Y’know I didn’t think you were the type to take someone so seriously over this type of thing ESPECIALLY not Rappa and Deidoro of all people! Listen, you know as well as anyone else that not everyone is going to have a good opinion on you. I learned a long time ago that as along as I think I’m hot then no one else matter. Besides, it’s okay to get a little insecure sometimes since it’s human nature, but don’t you EVER forget how sexy you are. And anyway, I don’t know what they’re talking about hair for. Rappa’s shit is so matted up in the back, it looks like he’s starting dreads. And Deidoro...if he reached up and pulled his hair back, he would have a 12 head instead of a forehead.” You said nonchalantly while looking down at him sitting in silence. He slowly reached up to hug you with one arm before thanking you for your kindness.
“Thank you Angel.”

I Know I Shouldn't Be Asking But Iv'e Been Feeling Down Lately And Ypu're The Only One Who Can Cheer Me Out! you can ignore this if you want but can i Request A Scenario Where All The Percepts are Gripping Angel's Leg Praising Here Because She Helped Them With Something? How Would Kai React to that? I'm Sorry!
Sorry for taking so long *bows to you*
You winced at the sound of your husband and Rappa's voices yelling at eachother before hearing what vould only be described as blood splashing on the walls and complete silence afterwards.
Kai has been completely tense and... lets day, without pacience to atture even the slighest mistakes from his subbordinates. Rappa was already used to Kai using his quirk on him but heck, even Nemoto was a victim those days for asking the wrong thing to a captivated of theirs.
Chrono. His fucking childhopd friend was overhauled last week because he missed a spot from his cleaning duty.
So everyone was walking on eggsshells around your man to make sure their bodies stayed intact for another day.
You frowned as the door opened and a very stressed out Chisaki appeared to make a bee line towards the bathroom to wash himself.
"What happened this time?" You asked while closing your novel as you heard grunting and water splashing.
"What do you think? Those subbordinated cant even do something right on this damn house and one even dares to speak against me and demand a rematch which we all know who will win as always." He emerged from the bathroom and sit at the end of the bed to rub at his temple with a groan.
You tutted and crawled your way to his and started to massage his shoulders. Chisaki now used and actually enjoying your touch after years.
"Dont you think you're being too harsh on them lately?" You whispered as he closed his eyes and rolled his head back at the feeling of your hands doing wonders on his back and shoulders "Is normal to make mistakes you know? We're all human."
"This is a yakusa dearest. Not a kindergarden. I wont allow them to think a boss will go easy on them. Unless you want our subbordinates to treat us like mere beings who doesn't deserve any respect." He opened one golden eye to look at you as you sighed. Knowing you couldn't argue about that with him.
"... well. I was thinking..." you rubbed at a spot which made him groan which could only be described as pleasurable "Maybe if you give them at least a week off... they could improve on their work."
"Imcompents dont derseve vacations." He growled when you kissed a part of his neck which you knew he was sensitive.
Actually, Kai's body was indeed sensitive to your touch. After all those years of himself denying any form of touch due to his myshophobia...
"We could have time for ourselves with them away~" you singed on his ear.
He seemed to comtemplate your offer until a scoff escaped his mouth as he turned full body towards you.
"One week. Nothing more." You squealed happily and hugged Chisaki despite how wide his eyes gotten.
"Thank you capo!" You kissed his whope face as he grunted, the tip of his ears bright red as he gently pushed you away avoiding eye contact.
"Enough."
Such a tsundere....
.
.
.
You woke up wwith a bad taste on your mouth and Chisaki as usual out of bed. Groaning and rubbing your eyes, you walked towards the hall to get in the kitchen to pick up some coffe, on the way bumping into almost every wall of table or even doors.
That was gonna bruise.. and you were going to hear a long ass lecture for your husband.
But now you just wanted your damn coffe.
Finally arriving in your destinayion and using the littel bit of energy you had to make your drink you heard some commosion and voices from afat but you just shrugged off and picked your mug and got out.
Just as you entered the hallway you saw more than ten man running towards you and bowing. Some even kneeling and spurting thanks here and there, even as far as to calling you a godness as you stood there without understanding a thing.
"THANK FUCKING GOD! (Y/N) YOU'RE A BLESSING THANK YOU SO MUCH CHICK!" Rappa yelled from his spot on the ground as Mimic shouted similiar to that.
"I must say my gratitude to you (Y/n)-sama. No less expected from a godness liel yourself and wife of master Overhaul." Nemoto bowed with Tengai as you stoll stood there without understanding a thing and with the mug of your coffe on your hand.
"Step away from my wife now unless you want all of these days turned into punishment." Overhaul growled and from a blink of an eye everyone ran away one last time shouting their gratitude as Chisaki aproached you with hands on his pockets.
"What... happened?"
"I told them the main reason why they had a breal was because of my wife." He growled as you snorted at the direction all the eight precepts, Chrono and Mimic ran off to.
"For you to see how much they were desperate." You giggled as he rolled his eyes. Raising the mug to take a sip of your drink before spitting and almost gagging on it as Chisaki's eyes went wide.
"Angel?! What's the matter?!
"The matter is that my frEACKING COFFE WENT COLD!"
He facepalmed at your answer

Ok in an attempt to exorcise the part of my brain thinking about doing a full rewrite of the Labyrinth au, I'm just going to tell you all everything about it right here instead
- four courts, according to the seasons. The Moraine Monarch rules Spring, the Seelie Ruiri is over Summer, the Goblin King over Autumn, and the Unseelie Emperor over Winter
- as transitional courts, Spring and Autumn rulers are actually always born human. The Moraine each claim a changeling for their Heir, and the Goblin King was the first wish-away
- though different sorts of fae make up the rulers of each, there are every type in each kingdom- from pixies to goblins to elves to dragons.
- All Hallows Eve marks the most chaotic night as far as fae in the human realm go- the solstices and equinoxes have a lot too, but more limited to one group at a time. Not so for this free for all. That means that this is the worst night possible to make a wish-away: while the Goblin King has claim over all of them, this is the one night that another may grab a wish-away first, and depending on who grabs them it can be rather difficult to get them back
- Izuku was a human boy until he met, befriended, and then was taken by Toshinori, the current Moraine Monarch and a changeling himself. Yo Shindo was left in his place. Inko has noticed her son growing more confident as he grows older, but doesn't think anything else is off. Izuku uses "Deku" as a common name to not give away his, and is the Heir of Spring.
- The Ruiri of Summer is Grandpa Yakuza himself. Chisaki is a Ri Buiden (lesser king, if you will), and the most notable thing he's done is attempt to snatch Shoto when he was wished away (and failed), and then kidnapped Eri, at the time the only known Spring Unicorn. Izuku and a few others had to get him back, and Chisaki's power was reduced in his court, the Ruiri giving Mirio some of his ceremonial powers instead.
- Hawks is the Goblin King, the first child to be wished away. The only one that's never had an Heir, his court has always been at a disadvantage to the others, so as charitable as he is for someone who's been in fairy for so long, he's got some personal motivation in getting all of the Todorokis so he can finally be at equal stance with the other courts and not rely on Spring so much.
- Tomura is the newest court leader, the Emperor of Winter who sits on the throne and bones of the former one he was raised by before usurping. The last Emperor took him from Spring after an insult from former queen Nana. He's a quarter human, initially, but being majority fae means he's fine to sit on the throne. Even if it gives him... Slight confidence issues.
- Enji has dragon and elven blood. Rei has selkie and witch. Of their children, only Shoto has an affinity for all four abilities. Natsuo only has witch, Fuyumi only selkie, and Touya only dragon. This matters little in the human world, but does attract fae and gives them the supernaturally bad luck of wishing-aways always happening on All Hallows.
- Touya, wished-away first, was intercepted by the former Emperor. His burns are a result of this, and he's held together by iron piercings that he had to himself to free himself of any influence by the Emperor or any other fae. They're his best and only defense when his offensive dragon fire fails.
- Shoto, wished-away second, was almost taken by Chisaki but as Hawks learned and was watching more closely this time, he snatched him back before anything worse than one minor burn was dealt. Shoto grew most quickly of the siblings, about fourteen years worth in the span of two human ones. He's more amiable to Hawks and more aware of the full scope of his plans, but he's also rather irreverent and not actually close to him, preferring to wander and spend time with his own friends.
- Natsuo, the third wish-away. Also the one Hawks intends to name Heir, though as Hawks has functional immortality, he does so planning that the lad will never rule, unlike the Moraine. Honestly the most happy about being in Fairy, and the one told the most about the plan.
- Fuyumi, a selkie born without a sealskin. As such, as soon as she interacted with magic it became possible that something would become her "skin" in that if taken, she'd be forced to physically follow and wouldn't be able to access any magic without it. Hawks suspects that her siblings might have become her skin and that she would be compelled to enter the Labyrinth anyway, but isn't actually sure. He doesn't care since his plan works either way.
- Touya- going by Dabi since he's been burned enough to know fae rules by now- is told by Hawks that Fuyumi is there to try to retrieve her brother, right before the All Hallows where they're planning on bringing Rei to Fairy. He assumes that she's here for Shoto and the his job (he, regrettably, Owes Hawks even beyond being beholden to him as a wish-away) is to stall her until. On learning that this isn't the case, he sorta freaks out just a little. A lot. He isn't happy, ok. He isn't happy that she wished-away Natsuo, and the fact that she wasn't there for Shoto ruined some of the perception he had that of course people came for the perfect mix but not him. Both of them having been 'forgetten' is something that required a paradigm shift.
- This is further complicated after he tricks Fuyumi into eating a drugged apple and watches her dream- one that includes all three of her brothers, and now he has to accept that she didn't come for the other two not because they were forgetten but because Natsuo was literally the only one she could. Then he gets sus of Hawks for that, and wakes her mostly because he wants to get to the King quickly and demand an answer.
- enter Shoto, who both gives them exposition faster about the plan, and also slows them down because Fuyumi cannot be allowed to see Natsuo until the time ends and she has a million questions for him about how on earth he's not a two year old.
- there are a few minor subplots about Shoto preparing to help Rei pass over via a mirror in her bathroom in the hospital, about Mitsuki being a mother still looking for her wish-away after years in the Labyrinth, about Tomura having pixie spies, about Izuku being annoyed that as changelings he and Toshinori can't go back over to the human land when everyone else does, and about Hitoshi needing something from Hawks so he offers his silvertongue services at stalling Fuyumi once Dabi flips out and leaves temporarily.
- other characters: Toga is an Unseelie pixie who got her wing privileges revoked after annoying Tomura but will likely get them back, Aizawa is a Cat Sidhe, Tenya an elf, Ochako a Seelie pixie. The first Moraine Monarch, First, was a human changeling. AfO was the one exchanged for him, and he was rather unhappy to come back to Fairy to find that the minor human he replaced and had been chosen for the throne, so he decided he should have a crown just like his "brother." Or rather, bigger than his brother's.
- I'm also toying with the idea that, as someone born human, Hawks can actually "dial up or down" how human or fae he is at any moment, to the point of being able to lie and resist iron, though at those times he's unable to access any magic and monitor his kingdom so he really tries not to go that far but to keep a good balance. Unsure but yeah the rest is fun.
#this is an eclectic mix of fairy mythos as it should be#some taken from Labyrinth movie. some from the labyrinth manga. some from various fairy tales. and some from me doing whatever i want#all fun all fun#ok now hopefully i will return to writing what I'm supposed to be

Small Drabble:
Overhaul
Chrono
Nemoto
💘First love: Shin Nemoto
You knew Nemoto from before he went into the Hassaikai. You two had been dating since high school, and it’s been years since then. You loved Nemoto, you did. But the longer he was in the Hassaikai, the more you noticed he changed. It wasn’t long before he convinced you to join too, not like you had much of a problem with it. Now that you were working with him, you noticed just how different he was becoming. He became…cynical. I mean, he wasn’t exactly a bubbly person to begin with, but this was concerning. He also became a little unbearable to be around at times….but you stayed with him. Well, for awhile. You found he was gone a lot more often, and almost bored when he returned home. 1 month passed and things had gotten worse, that’s when you both made the mutual decision to just break up…you weren’t too broken up about it, it wasn’t even a relationship at this point.
💔First Heartbreak: Kai Chisaki; Overhaul
When you and Nemoto broke up you, having no where else to go, stayed with the Hassaikai. I mean, it’s not like you saw Nemoto a lot anyway, he was pretty much always out or on the other side of the base so you didn’t see him much. And now that Overhaul had you switch jobs, you really only saw him at meetings, which he didn’t speak to you at anyway. You were working closely with Overhaul now, seeing him all day every day. At first, you were really uncomfortable..he was intimidating, strong, powerful, dangerous…But a part of you couldn’t deny, being that close to him was exhilarating. And after almost a year of working under him, he started to be more, human, with you. He was more laid back around you, spoke to you about trivial things, and he only wore his surgical mask around you. It was now you learned he was also quite charming when he wanted to be. He had a silver tongue, and he knew just what to say. You were starting to fall for him, and he knew. Overhaul is a sociopath, emotions don’t really come easily, but he was very perceptive. He knew how you felt about him…but he didn’t do anything about it. He was busy after all, he had no time for a relationship…but a little extra attention never hurt anyone. 4 months of you giving your heart to him is when he decided enough was enough. When he ‘broke things off’ he moved you to work with his subordinate.
💞Final Love: Hari Kurono; Chronostasis
Chrono had watched you fall out of love with Nemoto, into love with Overhaul, and watched as your heart got needlessly broken. To say he was frustrated would be an understatement. Over the many years you had worked for the Hassaikai, Chrono had grown quite fond of you. He respected you for your kindness, work ethic and general personality. He had always noticed and admired you, but you had yet to notice him. When you started to work with him, you noticed he was pretty laid back and…honest. He didn’t use prettied up words and doctored phrases, he told you what he thought, what he actually thought. He was also friendly, he would have normal conversations with you, he made you feel like you actually belonged, and he never used you. In a few months, you were back to feeling like your old self again, and you were also feeling in love. You were terrified..I mean, who wouldn’t be? The past 2 bouts you’ve had with love haven’t exactly gone smoothly but…something about Chrono told you this was different. He was different. And when he asked you on that first date and 2 years later to leave the Hassaikai and start a new life with him, you knew that everything that had happened up to that point was well, well worth it.

[Case number: OP-0166255-550 Examination recording number: N/A Physician/Psychiatrist: Asuka, Ayumu Recording date: Thursday, March 19th Recording time: 1:30 pm] @v-overhaul
[Morning hits and sunlight smacks hard against his blood-shot eyes, illuminating just how much of a headache Chisaki has from the drugs injected into him the night before. He wakes up uncomfortable, as usual. No memories of the previous evening immediately come to mind - things tend to blur together when one is forcibly given painkillers and walked between the same two rooms every day. Chisaki wishes the sunlight would fade, it’s painful where it hits his eyes and he’s already had enough of it. When they first brought him here he used to cherish the few rays that filtered in through the tiny, barred window, but now they’re just like everything else in this place. They hurt.
Chisaki wriggles into a sitting position with a groan. Everything is so much harder without his arms. The bastards seeing to him said there would be the chance of prosthetics but he's seen no such proof of that yet. He grits his teeth as he swings his legs off the bed. It feels awful to be so weak, so pitiful. He's not been at the mercy of another since her and he swore it would never happen again.
But then-
That exceptional boy-hero. Eri. The League of Villains and their demented leader-
Kai swallows. Panic creeps in so easily these days. Even the thought of Shi- of that man turn his stomach. He tries not to think of him as he sits and waits for whatever will be thrown at him today.]
[Eventually... the door starts to unlock. It's a deep and unsettling sound in the cell, loud and harsh clicks and a quieter whirling as the mechanisms that kept Chisaki locked inside were undone, one by one. After the very last padlock was done, there was a rush of movement as two guards suddenly burst into the room, faces shadowed and glaring.
They storm towards the bed, each grabbing hold of him, vicelike grips digging first around what's left of his arm, and then into his shoulder. Then they each take a turn, one striking him hard in the gut with a balled fist and then the other, smirking and laughing as they did. Then, once they were finally satisfied with this brief and cruel show of violence, they haul the man up like he's nothing, so roughly it's obvious they want him to know he's nothing, and they drag him out without a word or a care.
Outside the room, two more guards, both holding guns and sneering at the sight of him. With their prisoner in tow, they lead him down the quiet hall, occasionally exchanging words or tossing a casual insult. They bring him down a few floors, and then into a white room, a wide one with a door on either side and a massive pane of glass cutting the room in half. This is when Chisaki is tossed to the floor and the door is slammed shut behind him.
He's left alone for a moment.
Then, on the other side of the glass, the adjacent door is opened. A figure steps inside, smiling politely as they haul in a chair and sit down as close to the glass as possible, looking at him in curiosity before brightening up all the more.]
AYUMU: Hello Chisaki-san...! [It's brutal, but at least it's quick. There are some guards, those who proclaim they 'ain't none too fond of people who pick on little kids', who like to take their time in beating the shit out of him. Some of them spit on him. He's learned to stop fighting back, they only continue if he lashes out. Chisaki barely has time to bring air back into his winded body before he's tossed into the interview room like a sack of shit and drops heavily to the floor.
With no arms to catch his fall, his shoulder takes the brunt. Chisaki groans under his breath and rolls onto his back, squinting at the bright lights dotted along the ceiling. At least he's not in the lab today. They'll just be poking around in his head, rather than his flesh, and he's somewhat relieved.
When he hears someone call his name, he sits up and turns his head to look at them. Immediately, his face screws up with disgust. Right. This idiot.
He crosses his legs and pointedly stares at the floor, silent.] [Asuka only pouts at him when their greeting isn't returned. It rarely ever is, but they can't help but hope that one day...
Ah, well.]
AYUMU: How are you today, Chisaki-san? You're looking much better today! [they say, though they always seem to be saying that. In truth, Chisaki always wears some sort of damage on him, always decorated in bruises and healing cuts. It's a tragic sight, how clearly tortured the man is.]
AYUMU: Are you ready to begin or would you like a moment?
[Chisaki glares at them. He stays silent.] [They pout. So difficult.]
AYUMU: ... Okay, we can take a moment. I understand this week has been really hard... It must be nice to get a moment of peace with a friend, right? So we can stay like this for a bit.
[They make a show of getting comfortable in their chair, displaying the actions in the same way one would mime for a young child. Then they flash another smile.]
AYUMU: I can get you a chair if you ask for one, too. I'm sure the floor is uncomfortable? [It's a feeble attempt to get on his good side. Chisaki doesn't have a fucking good side.]
CHISAKI: A 'friend'. [They smile sheepishly.]
AYUMU: Yes? [Chisaki scoffs and wrinkles his nose. Pathetic. But, he might as well drag this conversation out for as long as possible, he's only got his cell and a potential beating to get back to.]
CHISAKI: Lucky me. The floor is fine.
[He rolls his bruised shoulder around in the socket, wincing at the pain that radiates across his back. That'll leave a lovely bruise, one more for the collection.]
CHISAKI: What do you want? [Their smile turns bright as he responds. They knew that little friendly comment would get to him in one way or another... If only it didn't take such a thing to get him talking.]
AYUMU: I just want to check up on you, Chisaki-san. Make sure you're okay. Know how you're feeling. Same as ever, you know? I worry.
[They watch him carefully, expression turning more serious.]
AYUMU: You're hurting...
CHISAKI: No shit. If you're that concerned then have a talk with your attack dogs.
[Chisaki narrows his eyes at Asuka. They're dedicated to playing good cop, huh? Presumably they want something from him. They're only ever nice to him when they want something. He feels a lump rise in his throat and the seeds of panic take root in the pit of his stomach.]
CHISAKI: I feel like shit. What do you expect?
[Chisaki speaks very matter of factly. Bored. Like he's reading a shopping list.]
CHISAKI: Are you going to kill me soon? Dragging this out is so dull. AYUMU: Kill you...?
[It's then that they slowly pull free a small pad of paper from their jacket, withdrawing a pen next. They open to a new page and jot down Chisaki's name and the date before they continue.]
AYUMU: Why ever would you think we would kill you...? [Chisaki huffs and lays back flat on the floor. He starts idly doing leg raises as he speaks. It's best to keep fit, if there's even the slightest chance of escape then he'll need to be in good enough health to run.]
CHISAKI: Because I'm a waste of resources, time and money. It seems more sensible to clean up a mistake. Bleach it out of existence.
[He turns his head to look at Asuka and narrows his eyes.]
CHISAKI: Unless you want something from me, that is. I presume that's the case, but I'm struggling to figure out what it is. [Asuka tries to keep a small laugh at bay, but it's hard to keep themselves from giggling just a little. It's almost adorable, the way he huffs to himself.]
AYUMU: Do you consider every human life that isn't dedicated to some cause or another a waste of resources? Because if so, that's very reductive...
[They jot that down as well. That clear disregard for others, the... quite plainly, fascinating way that his own wellbeing is just as easily shed as the people he encounters. The fact that he lacks so much empathy that he struggles to understand that someone could simply sympathize wth him, just for existing...]
AYUMU: Would it make you happier if I wanted something more? CHISAKI: 'Happier'?
[Chisaki sneers and sets his leg back on the floor.]
CHISAKI: The only things that you could do that would make me happy would be to let me go or take me out back and shoot me between the eyes.
[This existence is tantamount to torture for him. Purposeless, pathetic, he's undoubtedly the bottom of the food chain in this place. He clenches his stomach muscles and eases himself into a standing position so that he can move across the small space between them to the pane of glass. Little pustules have started to sprout along his cheekbone, a clear sign that he is getting stressed. And too, a clear sign that his quirk is still alive in him somewhere, with no way of bursting free.]
CHISAKI: But it wouldn't serve your purpose to do either of those, would it? So why don't you tell me the point of all these absurd tests?
[Chisaki grits his teeth, thinking of the undignified way the doctors working on him have him stripped and cut open and bled like a pig.]
CHISAKI: Why won't anyone tell me? AYUMU: What is there to tell?
[Is he perceptive or paranoid? Asuka takes that moment to try and decide as they watch him pace, looking sad. It's one of the sadder sights in the field, they think. Watching a prisoner drive themselves mad inside their cages, pacing like animals in a zoo. The hives are worse. If they keep up, they think, they might have to find a way to tranquilize him, and they don't want that. That would cause for another delay, and they are tired, so tired of how long this all was taking.]
AYUMU: Have you considered that we want to help you? That we want you to be better? That, maybe, all this unpleasantness is all going to be worth something in the future? [They huff.] You stew in so much negativity... you expect so much wrong, you can't see what's right in the world, that's the thing that's killing you, not us.
[They sigh again.]
AYUMU: I try to talk to you. You push me away. How can you be expect to be told anything if you can't seem to handle a simple conversation? [The levied accusation makes Chisaki's eye twitch. He can handle whatever they through at him, he just thinks these pitiful conversations about feelings are utterly pointless. They don't care, they can't possibly care, they just want information from him. They want something from him but he can't figure it out and it's driving him crazy.
Utterly crazy.
He continues to stare at Asuka with wide, bloodshot eyes.]
CHISAKI: Fine. Then talk. AYUMU: ...
[They don't answer for a moment, forcing the room into silence for a few seconds.]
AYUMU: ... I've noticed you suffer from psychosomatic symptoms... [they start slowly.] When you're stressed, you break out. This stresses you out, does it not...? Why? [Chisaki doesn't stop staring at them. He turns his body to face them.]
CHISAKI: Because I don't like talking about something as pointless as feelings. I don't understand why it's necessary for my jailer to know if I got my delicate little feelings hurt. I don't trust you. I don't trust why the fuck you need to know those things about me.
[He's almost hissing at them by the time he pauses for breath.
The hives aren't from the stress alone. They're the product of his quirk, worsened by the fact that it cannot be unleashed. Chisaki can feel it boiling beneath his skin, dormant, but certainly still there.]
CHISAKI: They're worse because my quirk isn't functioning properly. AYUMU: ... I am not your jailer. I am your therapist. And because I am such, your feelings are important to me. I don't want you to suffer here, and if you are suffering I can help you get better treatment if and when you cooperate with me. I'm not asking for your trust...
[Though, they are. They really are. They ache for it, that coveted vulnerability that seems rarer and rarer with every moment and every session.]
AYUMU: I'm just asking for you to let me help you. That's all.
[Asuka nods slowly, then writes that down in their pad.]
AYUMU: I had no idea, though... thank you. Can you please tell me more about your quirk and how that's affected you...?
[Therapist, huh? What a bunch of utter bullshit they're spouting. All that talk of care and trust and help, he doesn't believe it for a second. Chisaki has put his trust in Trojan horses once before and stamped its hooves on his life's work. But, he could play along for a little while, it might be to his benefit. He can tailor his responses, reveal nothing important, maybe feign a little emotion if that's what they want.
His face is pulled tight when he takes a seat on the floor again. He sighs.]
CHISAKI: It's called- it's called Overhaul.
[That name seems so sour now.]
CHISAKI: The activation point is- was my hands. I can still feel it there but-
[Chisaki frowns. He looks down at his stumps and clenches his jaw. They couldn't be happy with his research, his dreams, his syndicate, oh no. There was a final blow needed.]
CHISAKI: But there's no way for me to get it out anymore. Not properly. [Another slow nod as they write it down. Basic information. The heroes had found out his quirk on their own, and they had access to every bit of that information they'd gathered during that particular mission. But it's nice to hear it in his own words.]
AYUMU: It's always complicated when a quirk's use is so entwined with one's health... [they murmur, more for themselves than for him.] Do you feel your quirk often? What does this all feel like to you, having it...
[They search for the words.]
AYUMU: ...having it prohibited from you so...? [They're taking notes. What are they writing about him?
Chisaki's eye twitches again.]
CHISAKI: I feel it all the time. Having it linger inside me without being able to use it doesn't feel pleasant. If I could access it, I could fix myself. It's...frustrating.
[He furrows his brows and slumps over himself with another huff. This is pointless conversation.]
CHISAKI: Being stuck like this is frustrating. AYUMU: Mm...
[As he continues, they scrawl in their pen. Possibility of restricted quirk use following thorough rehabilitation?
They wonder if it's possible. The commission doesn't tell them everything, but they've had more than a few glimpses of their plans. They know what's been done and they know what's to come. They know that Chisaki has been deemed utterly unredeemable, more or less anyway, and that they plan to use him for their own purposes as much as they possibly could with little to no mercy attached. They know, with all the commission's studies of extraction and implantation, and with every quirk scientist in the country absolutely rushing to achieve a fraction of everything All for One has accomplished, that there is something that could be done here, not just to help hero society, but to help Chisaki too.
It's a little naive, they know. They are fully aware of every crime the villain before them has committed. It may not be possible, it may be too late to sow even a single seed of good within him. But they do want to try.
At the very least, they do want to inch them closer to where he's meant to be. ...
Lost in thought, they glance upwards towards him again.]
AYUMU: Do you feel broken, Chisaki-san?... [What a question. An intrusive, unwanted, ridiculous question. To think that someone like him could possibly be broken? What are they writing? What are they writing?! His expression turns strained. He hasn't been broken down and he hasn't lost, not yet. Sure, his research, his men, his quirk, his arms, all might have been taken from him but- but he'll get them back. He can fix this, definitely, definitely. It isn't over until he says it is. He's the boss, he's-
Somewhere in his noisy thoughts, he begins to tremble. The seeds of panic feel like they're sprouting, blossoming along the inside of his guts and up his throat, making it difficult to breathe. It is a sad state of affairs that he should find himself acting like a simpering child, but the feeling is not something he can stop - and believe him, he's tried to eradicate it.]
CHISAKI: N-no, I-
[Chisaki's breath quickens. He reaches up to grip his face but phantom hands cannot touch the living. His stomach pitches unpleasantly and he feels acid burn the back of his throat.]
CHISAKI: I- no, I don't feel-
[He drags in a shaky breath]
CHISAKI: I feel dirty. [They want to hold him. It almost hurts to have this glass seperating them, when he's already so harmless anyway, so that they could comfort him properly. No one deserves to be this lost, to drown in their thoughts in isolation like this.]
AYUMU: ...
[The next question is cruel, they know. Such a loaded phrase clearly carries a bloody history with it. But they can't keep from letting it fall from their mouths anyway.]
AYUMU: Why? [Asuka asks quietly.] Why would you feel dirty...? [Chisaki grits his teeth and looks up at them. His eyes sting. He wants to curl over himself as a form of protective comfort but his pride doesn't allow such a shameful action in front of this therapist.]
CHISAKI: Because there's filth everywhere. Always, can't- can't get to stay off. People don't see it, they don't see they're teeming with rot.
[The ever-present voice in the back of his mind tells him he's filthy, filthy and failing, disappointing, a worthless rotten little beast of a child-
With his chin jut out in a pointless attempt at defiance, Chisaki continues complaining. He ignores that he's started to cry.]
CHISAKI: I want a sh-shower! Or a bath. I want to get c-clean and no-one will let me!
[Such mundane, petty complaints. They're easier to address than the things stuffed deep inside, locked away, hidden.] AYUMU: ...
[Gently, Asuka eases down from their chair. They lower themselves to the floor, inching closer to the glass, placing a hand against it as they watch the tears drip down the broken man before them's cheeks. They take the sight in, wondering how rare it is, coveting it quietly like a precious jewel.]
AYUMU: Chisaki-san... I don't think you're filthy... [they murmur carefully, meaning every word.] I don't think you're rotten either. And I want to help you, okay? I want to help you...
[Their fingers move along the glass somewhat. If they could wipe his tears away, they would.]
AYUMU: I'll talk to someone for you. We can get you a shower, or a bath, whichever... okay? I'll help you feel clean again, okay? [Chisaki rubs his face against his shoulder to scrub some of the tears away. Silly signs of weakness, they fall unbidden, without his consent. He grinds his teeth, hissing through them as Asuka continues to talk.]
CHISAKI: Why the fuck would you do that? Why would someone like you want to help me?
[There's bitterness in his voice as he spits at the therapist. They don't care about his wants or comfort, why would they?]
CHISAKI: Th-this pathetic attempt to get on my good side...
[Chisaki laughs mirthlessly]
CHISAKI: I don't have a good side, I fucking hate you. All of you.
[He's getting more and more stressed, and the hives on his face spread. Without his realisation, the bandages covering his stumps start to shred.] [So focused on his expression and the way his hives grow to cover it, they almost don't notice at first.]
AYUMU: I don't care that you hate me, Chisaki... [they assure relentlessly, starting to speak over all the hateful words that leave him.] And if you wanted to hurt me, I wouldn't care either. Even if you tried to kill me, I'd still be trying to help you. Because I want to care for you! I want to do more for you than any of the people who turned you into this ever did. You don't have to be scared. It's okay... [They are insufferable. Their words are insufferable. Chisaki grinds his teeth so loudly he can hear the sound grating around his skull.]
CHISAKI: Scared...[How dare they? How fucking dare they?!] I'm not scared, you little idiot.
[Chisaki gets to his feet and skulks closer to them, eyes wide with anger.]
CHISAKI: Why do you people insist on pushing your care onto people who don't want it? I don't want your pathetic attempts at help. [If it weren't for the protective glass and the convenience of their quirk, they would have been alarmed by the way he suddenly surges forward. As it is, they only look at him with blinking eyes as Chisaki approaches.]
AYUMU: B-- because I--
[They stop short suddenly. Because, now that Chisaki's closer, they can see it. His arms are in view now and right before their eyes, the bandages are actually, literally tearing themselves to pieces. Panic and a violent sense of wonder suddenly seizes them.
Is his quirk evolving-!?
Oh, it's fascinating! It's perfect. This- this makes Overhaul viable! This means progress can happen!!
This also means Asuka could be in more danger than they'd already suspected.
Better handle this fast. Hoping the shock hasn't entered their expression, Asuka smiles to Chisaki in reassurance, holding up a hand in a calm show of surrender as the other slips into her pocket, finding a small remote with a button they press to alert the guards with. This session will have to end sooner than they'd hoped.]
AYUMU: Okay... Chisaki-san, it's okay. If you want to be done, we're done here, I won't say anything anymore. Please calm down... [Chisaki heaves in a breath as increasingly violent tremors run along the length of his spine. He's utterly furious and this stupid fucking bitch isn't listening to him. 'Calm down', like it's that easy. 'It's okay', like it's that goddamn simple to feel fine and dandy.
His eyes bulge in their sockets. Pops always said he had an awful temper.]
CHISAKI: We're not fucking done. I want to know why I'm being kept here. I want to know what the fuck all those experiments are for! I'm not your guinea pig!
[The irony is unfortunately lost on him.]
CHISAKI: Tell me!
[Chisaki is utterly seething as he approaches the glass, so distracted he barely notices the state of his bandages. Asuka remains calm, still muttering platitudes and 'calm down'. His jaw clenches tight and his face turns a violent shade of red as his anger boils over.]
CHISAKI: I will not calm down!
[He thwacks a stump against the glass without much though, hissing through his teeth at the nervous therapist on the other side. Without warning, the glass cracks. Spidery fractals splinter outward from the point where he rested the stump of his arm, not breaking it completely, but enough to cause a few pieces of glass to fall at his feet. Chisaki stumbles backwards, making a noise of alarm.]
CHISAKI: W-w- [The damage itself is small. But it's terrifying. Asuka scrambles further away from the glass, eyes wide, thoughts spinning, theorizing, trying to access the situation as quickly as they could. They watch Chisaki staggering back, realizing what they've done, and in an instant they're spinning around, facing one of the cameras staring their way.]
ASUKA: Security!!
[In an instant, the alarms blare with red light. The door bursts open. Guards pour into the room, lunging at Chisaki, bringing him down hard. Needles appear to jab deep into his skin, syringes full of suppressants, of tranquilizers, anything and everything to keep him down.
On the other side, a similar bustle appears as Asuka's own door is thrown open, security rushing to their aid. At their side in a moment, a guard looks at Asuka with a stern sympathy as they help them to their feet and immediately starts to guide them out.
As they do, Asuka spares one last, longing little glance over at Chisaki as he's gathered up into the guards' vice grips again. They hope he'll be okay. They hope the men aren't too harsh on him. And they hope, naively, that one day, maybe, Chisaki will learn to forgive them all for what's bound to happen next.]

Hey! First of all, thank you for being so civilly polite: it’s highly appreciated.
Ovehaul is a very interesting character on many fronts, his goals and his aspirations are morphed into his own sense of morality.
To understand his characterization, it’s important to be aware of his psychological profile. Chisaki is a character that has a vague background, but let’s go off of what we know. He lived on the streets - that leads us to believe he accideally killed his parents (hence why boss would say Chisaki would understand Eri’s situation) - and was left to fend for himself in the filth of the streets until boss scooped him up and “saved” him.
Now, Chisaki has is depicted as being fiercely loyal and protective of family, as we could assume he feels indebted to boss and is eager to do whatever it takes to return his kindness. This desolation and abandonment he experienced as a child probably had him grow to despise quirks, specifically his own, as it is what ruined his life to begin with. His quirk has become something bittersweet to him- as it is what gives him the power he craved when he was alone, but it is also the reason he is isolated. This loyalty he feels towards the yakuza fuels his desire to pay back the boss, and further creates a rift in his moral perception, because he has the power to bring the yakuza back to its glory. His quirk becomes a vector for his power complex through this.
Lets make this clear: Overhaul is convinced he’s doing the right thing. His awful treatment of Eri is exactly that, awful, but indulging in his mindset you can see that he would rather one person suffer than thousands of others. He would rather one person be in pain, albeit a child, so that he can show his gratitude towards the yakuza and restore them to power. In his eyes, he is doing a gracious thing. In his eyes, he is worthy of worship and unyielding loyalty. Because who wouldn’t want to rid the world of disease? Who wouldn’t feel humbled by the idea of doing anything and everything for those you love?
He suffered through the sick and the scum of humanity when he was a child. He endured the filth and the grime of living on the streets. He has potentially been the cause for the death of his own parents. The world is ugly, the world is ill.
What he wants is to show his gratitude. What he wants is to assure that no one has to suffer the disgusting reality that are quirks like he did. At least, at the surface. Truly he just craves to regain the dignity and power that he was deprived of in his youth. He’s desperate to have control over his life, and perhaps even desires to have the power that comes along with controlling others.
He’s a villain, that is certain. He’s wicked and he’s abusive and downright evil. But the reason he is such an attractive character is that he doesnt know these things, he’s doing what he thinks is right and what will suit his agenda.
Is he awful? Without a doubt.
But he is also, objectively, one of the most interesting characters psychologically that we have been presented with.
And that is why people stan him.
Note: sorry if this is scrambled, I got kind of excited lolol
can overhaul stans pls explain to me why they stan him… like i’m not anti anything in bnha really bc idc what other people like, but i’m genuinely curious why people stan overhaul??
