Maylandia fainzilberi:

Maylandia fainzilberi foi identificada por Staeck em 1976. Em 2016 passaram a ser classificados como Metriaclima fainzilberi todos os Metriaclima sp. "zebra chilumba", está nova classificação foi atribuída por Ad Konings.

População: Pode ser encontrada em várias zonas do Lago, Katale Island; Maison Reef; Luwino Reef; Ikombe; Makonde; Charo; Hongi, Ngwasi e muitas outras.

Características da Agua: Temperatura - 20º e os 28ºC (Como não uso termostatos, já os mantive e mantenho a temperaturas inferiores de Inverno, no entanto não aconselho ninguém a fazer o mesmo). Ph: 7.5/8.5

Alimentação: No lago alimentam-se da biocobertura das rochas composta por algas e um largo número de minúsculos invertebrados que nelas vivem (aufwuchs), em aquário devem ser alimentados com comida própria rica em matéria vegetal.

Dimorfismo Sexual: O macho desta espécie é significativamente maior que a fêmea, diferencia-se nitidamente da fêmea pela sua cor azul com listas pretas, podendo ser encontrados também machos OB, já as fêmeas são castanhas ou OB.

Tamanho: São peixes com corpos robustos, com lábios grossos, que podem atingir, no caso dos machos os 15cm, as fêmeas são sempre mais pequenas 10/12cm.

Comportamento: Estes peixes seguem o mesmo padrão de comportamento da maioria dos mbunas, são territoriais e agressivos, não é aconselhável manter no mesmo aquário machos da mesma espécie ou com machos de idêntica coloração. Durante o período de reprodução a sua agressividade aumenta significativamente, podendo facilmente encostar num canto do aquário todos os outros peixes.

Reprodução: Incubador bocal maternal. O acasalamento realiza-se num local para onde o macho atrai a fêmea num ritual de movimentos giratórios sobre os ovos depositados. No ritual, a fêmea deposita ovo a ovo no solo, o macho fertiliza-o e a fêmea coloca-o na boca dando início à incubação. No final do período de incubação que pode demorar entre 20/22 dias (pode demorar mais se a fêmea sentir perigo para os alevins) os alevins são soltos, completamente formados. Durante o período da incubação, fêmeas menos experientes não se alimentam.

Tamanho aconselhado do aquário: Tendo em conta que é uma das espécies de mbunas de maior porte, eu não aconselho manter em aquários com menos 150cm, existe quem tenha opinião diferente da minha, mas para mim é um erro aquários mais pequenos para está espécie.
