CHILD'S PLAY 3 (1991)

Chucky is back again and ready to steal another child's soul. “Just think, Chucky’s gonna be a bro.” Yeah, about that. This movie takes place at a military school so be prepared for heavy military influence. Interesting take on a Chucky film but certainly a downgrade from 1 & 2. Less of the good special effects we’ve come to know and laugh at, I mean, love. But really this feels like more of a grab on the name of Chucky than an inspired movie.

Trigger Warning Mild Racism

8 years in the future, Chucky is somehow melted back to life? And he still wants Andy? Even though it was established in the last movie that he is stuck in his doll body, I thought? Okay, even Chucky notices this and picks a new kid (Tyler) to tell his secret to because he thinks he can steal his soul even easier (since this kid doesn’t know Chucky is so fucky, ya know?) But he still wants to go after Andy because he hates that kid (now teen). 

Some Military school bully finds Andy and Chucky fighting and assumes it's just Andy playing with a doll so makes fun of him then steals the doll. Andy sneaks into the bullies room at night so carefully not to wake him but all I can think about is watching out for Chucky who will literally murder everyone without hesitation, seriously, what are you doing, Andy? Chucky catches him by surprise then escapes.

Chucky is able to kill two military dudes (one by heart attack and the other by surprise throat slash, decent enough) before the War Games where he replaces the paint ammo with real bullets! Our bully gets shot through the heart and Chucky is to blame (he gives love a bad name!) and Andy’s roommate bodies a grenade for the group. Rough going all around but then Tyler is able to escape to the carnival for like half a second before Chucky is on his case again.

They go into the haunted house attraction which is also a ride and honestly if I want to watch a stressful romp through a functioning ride against a creepy villain I’ll rewatch The Bob’s Burgers Movie. This was a little too fantastical for my tastes, everything up until this point I bought with a big grain of salt but these kids would have been squashed flat by these ride mechanics

After a lot of fucking around, Chucky dies by turning into (still patent pending) Chucky Chunks again but this time they are much more bloody and don’t get all over Andy. It appears that the kids are safe again as it ends with people cleaning up the absolute MESS the carnival left behind in complete darkness? Like they couldn’t leave a light on for the cleaning crew? This movie tried to be too deep with the military kid sacrificing himself for his friends, I mean, it’s Child’s Play 3 for goodness sake, no need to jump the shark or throw yourself on the grenade but I guess it happened.

Okay so the next episode is going to be the one to show what happened to Chucky's parents and there's a brief glimpse of his father dead on the floor in the preview for the next episode, and guys, holy FUCK

So, you can't do a slasher movie as a TV series. Well, think about it. You know, girl and her friends arrive at the dance, the camp, the deserted town, whatever. Killer takes them out one by one. Ninety minutes later, the sun comes up as Survivor Girl's sitting in the back of the ambulance watching her friends' bodies being wheeled past. Slasher movies burn bright and fast. BRIDE OF CHUCKY (1998)

💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead

“Rude f*ckin’ doll.” Jennifer Tilly brought it and there were so many good doll special effects which takes us back to what we love about chucky in the first place. This movie was fun, flirty, and deadly. A very worthy addition to horror films in general, not just the series.

Chucky’s old girlfriend brings his doll back to life because she missed him but he isn’t super sweet on her so she locks him in a crib. To get back at her he kills her and makes her into a doll (you know, an eye for an eye). She is not happy about this and now it is a lot harder for them both to go to Chucky’s physical burial location and get the special necklace he was wearing when his human body died. If he left her alive and human she could have just driven them but he’s such an angry little dickhead he had to make her into a doll to “teach her a lesson,” it is so silly. Tiffany calls her neighbor and asks him to transport her and Chucky as “two special dolls.”

The kids are Jade (played by Katherine Heigl!) and Jesse and they have a cute love story but also who cares about them because Chucky and Tiffany, baby! Just in trying to leave town the dolls kill the uncle police officer and another police officer and get the kids on the most wanted list (wack). Random scenic shots of Niagara falls. Tiff is all about utilizing her surroundings for her killings and is very inspiring to Chucky who asks her to marry him after a particularly poignant encounter. We also have very goofy doll sex at this point which is wack. The kids think each other are the killer which is a little goof about but then their friend comes in to try and prove they are both not murderers and he ends up getting a high five in the face from a mac truck after being surprised by the living dolls.

When they get to the grave site, the kids don’t want to give their bodies to the dolls so they fight back, Tiffany goes in the oven and Chucky out the window. Tiffany gives up at this point, she is toasted and toast, but Chucky takes Jade and gets to the grave. Tiffany has other plans though, she wants to see her mans in Hell so she fights him to the death. He bests her and it is up to the kids who basically trap him like a small animal in a hole and he runs around all wild like. Then they shoot him after the local law enforcement comes up so he can prove their innocence and they get to go back home ever again. Very good and fun movie (wish it didn’t include the little bit where Tiff immediately birthed a Chucky hell-spawn at the very end but, hey, I still really enjoyed this film).

But let’s go back to the tub, let’s go back to Tiffany watching Bride of Frankenstein and realizing that the bride never loved The Monster. She is crying because she is applying this to her life, but which one is she? Is she the bride? Or is she The Monster? Now we can never know because Chuck and Tiff have one of the most toxic relationships that people idolize but there was a turning point for our girl Tiffany in that moment. Was she going to apologize and confess her undying love for Chucky, not ever wanting him to feel like The Monster? Or would she tell him off for making her feel like The Monster? Such an important little scene that I wish she talks to Chucky about, and considering the end, I have a feeling she might see herself at the ladder.

I'm going to need the fandom to stop acting like this isn't blatantly ableist as fuck. It would be completely fine if there were at least one other main or reoccurring character who is either obviously autistic-coded (or confirmed canonically autistic) who isn't evil, but... that isn't the case here!

As someone said on a post I made about this in the past: Don didn't accidentally fall into Caroline being autistic-coded; he gave her the most stereotypical autism traits aside from liking trains. Don made his only obviously-autistic character evil on purpose.

I'll never forgive Don Mancini for a lot of things he's done on Chucky, but I think the most angering one is probably making the one (most obviously) autistic-coded child turn evil.

Imagine trying to explain Chucky lore to someone who’s never seen it. There’s so much and it’s like “so yeah this serial killer put his soul into a doll so he didn’t get shot, and has had beef with a dude for decades who was six when he met him, oh and the doll has a wife, who is human, then was temporarily a doll, then started living as human again in the body of her celebrity crush while he stayed a doll, then the doll goes back to start beef with a woman who he paralyzed as a baby and puts part of his soul into her body too, but then his wife falls in love with her so she held her hostage, now he’s starting beef with some teenagers who didn’t do anything and now he’s old and tried to launch a missile to the North Pole from the White House then withered away into dust and became a ghost, and he’s STILL not satisfied with his killings and also he has a kid who’s a doll too”

Oh, I HOPE Chucky had a hippie phase! And not like the Manson family, who were really just dirty people with long hair but who clearly didn't hold the values of hippies. No, I mean a REAL hippie phase where he wasn't killing at all!

I think that would be so funny, but also... lots to think about. 🧐 (Maybe that was the last of his "stream of innocence" that Dr. Groomer Mixter "stamped out.")

Guys, y'all have NO FRICKIN IDEA how badly I want this lil lankly shit of a kid to have had a hippie phase in his teen years

I really love the idea of Chucky in his teen years presenting an optimistic demeanor and approach to life (much like Peter Pan lol) to cope with the hardships of being a runaway foster kid at 14-15 instead of pessimism which only really started bubbling up once he was in his 20s

PLUS LOOK AT THAT FRICKIN HIPPIE NECKLACE GOD!!!!!
