Mumbai: Lata Mangeshkar music college launched on her 93rd birth anniv
Tumblr media
In a fitting tribute, the 'Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International Music College & Museum' was inaugurated at the Kalina Campus of the University of Mumbai, here on Wednesday -- on the 93rd birth anniversary of the melody queen who passed away on February 6, officials said. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis did the honours in the presence of a large number of ministers, political leaders and music personalities like Usha Mangeshkar, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Meena Khadilkar, Adinath Mangeshkar, Ashok Patki, Sonu Nigam, Anup Jalota, Pankaj Udas, Mayuresh Pai, Taufiq Qureshi, Lalit Pandit, and others. With this, the University will offer the first six certificate courses of one-year each in Hindustani classical music, Indian flute, tabla, sitar, harmonium/keyboard and sound engineering will be launched with an initial intake of 150 students. In August this year, the Maharashtra government had handed over a 7,000-square metre plot owned by the Directorate of Libraries in the Kalina campus of Mumbai University for the music college. However, as a temporary measure, till the college gets its own building and other amenities, it will function from the P.L. Deshpande Academy, Shinde had said. Lata Mangeshkar desired to start such a music college in memory of her father, Master Dinanath Mangeshkar, and the former Maha Vikas Aghadi government's former Minister Aditya Thackeray had shown her the plot which she had liked. After her demise, the ex-CM Uddhav Thackeray had announced that a world class music college would come up in memory of 'Lata didi', as she was known during her lifetime. Later, the government had set up a 14-member expert advisory board for the college courses which included Chairman Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Adinath Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar, Mayuresh Pai, Zakir Hussain, A.R. Rahman and other personalities. To start with, the teaching posts will be on an emoluments basis and clerical/ typist jobs will be filled on an external basis, machinery, equipment and other requirements will be purchased, all at a cost of nearly Rs 1.75 crore per month. This fulfils a commitment made by the state government to start the global music college from the current academic year in memory of Lata Mangeshkar. Read the full article

In Bollywood, it is very easy to disguise a murder as a suicide because whenever a suicide happens in the industry, people immediately assume it’s due to depression or lack of work | Many murder cases are passed off as suicides since criminals know that there will be no proper investigation if someone is from Bollywood, and they will get away with it |
This is why there is never a proper investigation in Bollywood, and justice is often not served | Recently, the body of Noor Malabika Das was found hanging for four days | This could also be a murder disguised as a suicide |
Noor Das's aunt, Arati Das, claims that Noor was depressed and not getting any work, which led her to commit suicide | However, her aunt should understand that she wasn’t following her around with a camera all day; people today don’t share everything and often hide many things | Noor Malabika Das could have been murdered and then hanged to make it look like a suicide, and the environment around her could have been manipulated to suggest suicide | There could be any reason behind it |
There are many suicide cases among actors and actresses in the Bollywood film industry, which is why the central government needs to take this issue seriously and form a committee | All Indian Cine Workers Association President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta will meet with Chief Minister Honourable Shri Eknath Shinde and Honourable Shri Devendra Fadnavis, the Home Minister, regarding Noor Malabika Das's case and will demand the formation of an SIT (Special Investigation Team) to bring out the truth because why would anyone take their own life?
Actors and actresses are influencers who motivate people, so it’s hard to believe they would commit suicide | Why would someone who inspires others take their own life? There are many reasons, including being pushed to the brink of depression or being instigated to commit suicide |
The central government must be made aware of and investigate the high rate of suicides among influencers in Bollywood |
All Indian Cine Workers Association will write a letter to the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi requesting an investigation into why so many suicides are happening in the Bollywood Film industry, and a committee should be formed |
The police often fail to conduct proper investigations and simply wash their hands of the matter | Therefore, in Noor Malabika Das's case, I will demand an SIT probe |

Actor Noor Malabika Das, Who Starred In 'The Trial', Found Dead In Mumbai Flat
Actor Noor Malabika Das, who has worked in several webshows, was found dead in her Mumbai flat with the cops suspecting she died by suicide. Das, a former air hostess with Qatar Airways, was from Assam and lived in Mumbai's Lokhandwala. She was the co-star of Kajol in the 2023 legal drama 'The Trial'.
Tumblr media
Her body was recovered from her flat on Thursday after her neighbours noticed a foul smell and informed the cops, sources said.
The cops broke open the door and found the 37-year-old actor's body in a decomposed state. They have collected samples, including medicines and mobile phones, from her home as part of the probe. But no suicide note was recovered from her flat, an official said, adding that an accidental death report (ADR) has been filed. An autopsy has also been conducted.
Malabika's elderly parents had visited her and recently returned to Assam. Since they couldn't travel to Mumbai again, her friend and actor Aloknath Pathak cremated her body with the help of an NGO.
All Indian Cine Workers Association has called on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to conduct a thorough probe into the alleged suicide.
It is imperative for the government to probe the underlying causes behind these recurring tragedies in the Indian film industry, it said.

PM Modi Resigns After Election Results, NDA Faces Coalition Challenges
Prime Minister Modi Resigns
In a remarkable change of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Union Council of Ministers visited President Murmu on June 5 to present their resignations. This step follows the Union Cabinet’s recommendation to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha. According to Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu has urged that Mr. Modi and his ministers remain in office till a new administration is formed. The Lok Sabha’s current term concludes on June 16.
Unfolding of the Lok Sabha Election Fallout
The development unfolds following the announcement of the election results for all 543 seats by the Election Commission of India earlier today. With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) falling short of the required majority, the party faces the challenge of forming a coalition government with its allies. The BJP secured a total of 240 seats, failing to reach the majority mark of 272. Consequently, the party has convened a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parties in New Delhi today. Despite the BJP’s shortfall, the NDA, when considering the seats won by its allies, has managed to secure a comfortable majority. Meanwhile, none of the members of the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc crossed the majority mark. The bloc, comprising over 200 seats, is set to convene a meeting to strategize its next steps.
BJP’s Coalition Challenges Post-Election Results
In other election-related news, Maharashtra saw a significant upset for the BJP-led coalition. Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis accepted entire responsibility for the coalition’s underperformance, which included only 17 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Fadnavis stated that he is willing to step away from his government obligations in order to focus on enhancing the party’s position in next elections.
NDA’s Efforts to Form a Coalition Government
The Maharashtra election results highlight significant gains for the opposition coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar). The MVA collectively secured 30 seats, showcasing a considerable surge compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Congress witnessed a noteworthy increase in its seat tally, capturing 13 seats compared to just one in 2019. Shiv Sena (UBT) secured nine seats, while NCP (Sharad Pawar) secured eight seats.

Suspended Pune civic body health chief alleges he was pressured to approve illegal tenders made by a State Minister
After the Eknath Shinde-led Mahayuti government recently suspended the health chief of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the official has hit back with a letter to Mr. Shinde, in which he claimed he was suspended for refusing to do the “illicit bidding” of a Minister in the State government. Bhagwan Pawar, who was Pune’s district health officer (DHO) during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, was recently sacked on grounds of having committed financial harassment, and on charges of alleged sexual harassment of women colleagues. However, in a letter addressed to Mr. Shinde and Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Dr. Pawar alleged that he was pressured to approve illegal tenders and other purchases made by a Minister in the State Cabinet, while highlighting his untarnished and exemplary service record of over 30 years in the Public Health Department. He said there had been “no serious complaints or administrative inquiries” against him in all the time since his appointment as the health chief of the PMC in March 2023. The case has turned into a political slanging match, with the Congress’ Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar accusing the Shinde government of scapegoating an honest officer for refusing to do the bidding of a corrupt Minister. While not naming him, Mr. Wadettiwar’s barbs appeared to be directed at Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Tanaji Sawant, a leader from Mr. Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction. “In this Mahayuti government, there is a ‘tender competition’. Corrupt officials who do illegal work on the orders of ministers are pampered while honest officials like Pune Municipal Health chief Dr. Bhagwan Pawar are suspended. The Minister has repeatedly called him and pressured him to do illegal work, and he was suspended for refusing to do it. Honest officials are exposing the true face of this corrupt government,” Mr. Wadettiwar posted on social media platform X. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar) faction legislator Rohit Pawar asked whether the Minister Dr. Pawar had accused in his letter was Mr. Sawant. “How long will CM Eknath Shinde protect such a corrupt minister? He has been involved in the ambulance scam in the past. Now, if tenders are being managed in this way, I urge ‘Doctor’ Eknath Shinde to perform a ‘surgery’ on this minister and cut him out of the State cabinet,” Mr. Rohit Pawar, who is veteran leader Sharad Pawar’s grand-nephew, said.
