My version of Clover is not different from the original. For the design, I turned her an athletic East Asian teenage girl (half Thai Chinese from her father's side and half Japanese from her mother's side), with shoulder length wavy dark brown hair (dyed honey blonde roots and red ombre) tied in a back high ponytail with a navy blue hair tie, slightly narrow dark brown eyebrows, thin eyelashes, hazel green eyes, tan skin, a brown beauty mark under her right eye, reddish orange heart-shaped, Chinese and Japanese accent and wearing some reddish orange eyeshadows and eyeliners and wearing celestial and kimono causal clothes including sneakers and combat boots instead of fashionable clothes like heels. Clover is smart, knowledgeable and brilliant student in Beverly Hills Unified School District, she is a new member of Asian American Association in Beverly Hills High School, for her first year of high school, she liked studying with Sammie and she designed fashion with Alexia. After Jerry and Olivia recruited her to become spies with the strong friendship, also in my version girls wearing different shoes with different catsuits. Clover was chosen to work for W.O.O.H.P because since childhood, she standing up to bullies and fighting for leadership, to make her mother proud. Clover's family are East Asian, her father, Shi Lĕi Ewing was a former soldier who in the Japanese army and a current scientist who worked for W.H.O.O.P. Lab as a father and daughters, he had a scar on his right eye from the 2011 earthquake who had lost his beloved wife. Her mother is Keiko Kato-Ewing who worked for W.O.O.H.P, as she sacrifice herself for her husband and daughters during her mission, 2011 Earthquake and Tusami in Japan, she and her family moved to USA after her mother's death, she made her mother proud, when she was a year old baby. Her older sister Zhen Ewing is 4 years older than her and she is a college student at the University of California Los Angeles, and interested East Asian Studies and she have a boyfriend named Kenji. Clover is the youngest daughter of Shi Lĕi and the late Keiko Kato-Ewing, she wearing red sleeveless collared catsuit, she continued to focus and studied schoolwork until she'll graduate from Beverly Hills High School and attended the University of California, Berkeley.

walking up the stairs into the city lights, warm in the tube but it’s cold out tonight, the red leaves are falling and the blue ones are skating, into the city the trolley is racing,
past that old park where we all got drunk, pass by the shop where i buy that skunk, riding the train just never gets old, just a silly little wonder i hold,
signs flashing by as the sun gets higher, i’m out feeling streetcar desire,
love in the 6ix, do you think it exists? do you believe in something, could you tell me a myth?
give me a story for the morning glory, there's nothing you’ll say that'll ever bore me, late night chats on the 506, me and my bestie just talking the shit,
answer the universe 'fore our stop, feeling it now that i sent her off, downtown lights and city life, flected all in starstruck eyes, the photos on billboards are fake, a lie like the cake, a lure, if you sent me one i'd fall for, i'm sure, get a robot to sell me coffee, caffeine fuels the dead man walking, looks like the cafe door is closed, you're not open, nowhere to go
i stood in that spot like my 12 year old self, childhood wonder flown off the shelf, everything changes, broke my glasses, stop and smell the flowers while life passes, hit the cartridge won't quit but you say it, phone's distorted i cant hear what you're saying, rogers 5G subway quit complaining, st george to kipling station i'm changing, new train just one destination, go the place that stops my mind racing, sit on the hill feel the trains pass by, high school down the street no school now just high, find the spot i became myself, eggs cracked, come out the shell, quiet kid got a little loud, city changes everything around, new faces and places, trying to find my spaces, strange city no lights like las vegas, wall street on bay spot exchanges, queen west hipsters, gentrification, head east to the beaches, day in the city see the stars must be dreaming, no ID card robarts I can't sneak in, annex photo negative stayed peaking, the photos from last night i am seeing, but your face is nowhere to be seen in the crowd
towards your home i’m racing, flowers in hand heart’s pacing, no flower on hand im not faded, cedarvale line 1 delayed it, your favourite perfume i sprayed it, no smelling like smoke, not like lost hopes, and dreams and memories, more like cherry blossom breeze, galão by the ocean sun is on me, you’re someone’s son and you’re on me, and my mind, think about you all the time, why else do i write these line by line, every song ends up about you, talk about nostalgia there’s that word “you”, i just end up thinking about things i dont think i can have

BTW, if you're wondering why there are so many Simpsons episodes, it's because this list was originally just a list of Simpsons episodes I hated. And if you're wondering why fellow long-runner Family Guy has so few, it's because I cut it some slack for a long time due to it being the internet reviewing community's whipping boy.
"Splicers" is kind of a special case. I don't really remember most Batman Beyond episodes, but I remember finding most of the series decent, with the exception of that one episode.

Orange, NJ, has excellent schools. South Orange is like many towns in northern New Jersey; it has excellent schools. It's a wonderful place to raise children. A school for children from kindergarten through first grade to higher grade levels is available. Some schools are Marshall Elementary School for children in kindergarten through second grade, South Mountain Elementary for kindergarten through fifth grade, an Early Childhood Center for preschoolers, and South Orange Middle School, the primary school in South Orange. Branch Brook Park in Orange, NJ
The nation's first county park, Branch Brook Park, is in the North Ward of Newark, between the Forest Hill and Roseville neighborhoods. I love that this recreation area is situated inside the Municipality of Belleville. The park is famous for having the most cherry blossom trees anywhere in the United States. Multiple points of entry into the park from Downtown Newark are provided by the Newark Light Rail, which runs along the park's west side. The New Jersey National Registers of Historic Places include Branch Brook Park in 198 - 1981; that's why until now, Branch Brook Park is still one of the most visited parks in the country. It stands out because it was the first county park in the United States to open to the public. The park has an average width of 1/4 mile and a length of nearly 4 miles. It is the County's largest developed park, covering 360 acres. It combines open meadowland and small woodland patches on gently rolling terrain.

BRENTWOOD, APRIL 3rd by Jasmine Khaliq
what is this, pulling me back the other way
to strip malls, highways, and treetops?
—Caroline Polachek, “Parachute”
for my twenty-fifth birthday I’d like to skydive
off vasco road they take people up
my dad did this once before I was
ever born; the hill opened up
his right knee. my mom watched, pregnant with me,
still unnamed, unsexed, surely the size of recognizable fruit,
surely recognizable fruit, every possibility. I’ll never do
that again, he says, but I haven’t gone, I want to go
skydiving; I think I would jump; I want to know california that way,
unnaturally; I want to rattle like shucked corn inside myself;
I want to see what my dad must have seen—after this,
he bought a house in the country; he bought my sister and I a childhood
drawing on our wrists with sap from gerbera daisies,
or that’s what I remember—I want to see all of it at once—
the last two decades mount diablo a movie theater new lots new lawns
two golf clubs on the other side of town—I went to high school
there my dad bought me a childhood here my sister and I,
but he never took us cherry picking. every spring
I fell in love with people who could never understand me,
and they’re reappearing in my dreams.
I’m still in love; we’re at any one of our old houses.
I used to drive to get you. dark blue chrysler with no a/c
in the worst of our summers.
those roads to your house I drive in my sleep.
o’hara, fairview, minnesota, lone tree. I liked to watch
you drive me. I still would. your jaw.
what was that alchemy? only proximity?
to write sometimes I put on lipstick, jewelry, vivaldi.
today: slow-motion videos of parachutes deploying:
birds of paradise above us, color by color peeling. I want it—
east bay rushing up toward me, unnaturally; those roads
I took; tense walks along deer creek. I wanted to disappear
here so many times. barely april and it’s hot enough to change
how the air smells—more animal,
more alive. would you have imagined me
making it to twenty-five? smaller in the sky than any recognizable fruit,
poppy blooming overhead, able finally to see these strip malls,
highways, our childhoods, endless, green,
every line—parallel, intersecting.

Are NJ Students Safe? South Jersey High School Student Clash Over Israel-Hamas War Goes Viral
Cherry Hill, NJ — A clash broke out between Hamas student activists and a Jewish student at Cherry Hill East High School during a so-called …

hey hey hey!! i’m jay (he/him), and i’m here live to bring robin penn to the scene. he’s your run of the mill uber progressive film bro whose interests include whole foods, organically-rolled joints, and being the wokest person in the room. more info below the cut, and feel free to message me if you wanna plot :))
( avan jogia, cis male, he/him ). hey, isn’t that [ ROBIN PENN ] walking down bennington street? i think the [ 25 ] YEAR OLD [ FILMMAKER ] is from [ CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, CO ]. i’ve heard some rumors down at ginger’s, saying that they're [ SELF-RIGHTEOUS AND GUARDED ], but then again they’re known to be [ CHARMING AND INNOVATIVE ]. either way, they seem to be interesting, hope they’ll stick around.
stats ;
full name: robin chatura penn
place and dob: cherry hills village, co on november 23rd, 1994 (did i do that math right oh god)
sexuality: pansexual
zodiac sign: sagittarius
hogwarts house: gryffindor
parallels: kyle scheible (lady bird), vanessa abrams (gossip girl), elliot alderson (mr. robot), miss grotke (recess), tyler durden (fight club), kate stratford (10 things i hate about you), diane nguyen (bojack horseman), jay gatsby (the great gatsby)
background ;
okay so! first thing to know about robin is that he’s hella disingenous about his background, so even though this is like ~ the truth ~ he’s definitely told your character something different (although he tries to mention his past as little as possible, mostly just sprinkles tidbits that he knows he can keep up) when they ask
but with that being said !!! robin penn grows up in upper class suburbia and it’s the thing he hates the most about himself. he’s the third of five kids so he’s got huge middle child syndrome, but also since his parents had like four other kids to show off they were kind of content with him doing his own thing? so he becomes the black sheep of the penn family easily, and is also kind of the outcast of his entire neighborhood? but i mean, they looked down on him and at the same time he looked down on them from his high horse of progressivism, so it was all very mutual
but growing up without any tangible people to relate to isn’t all bad, because it’s how he discovers movies! he watched every classic there is pretty quickly and moved onto niche foreign films, which is why he’s now so well-versed in like absurdist french films from the late 80′s when nobody else gives a fuck
he makes his first film at fifteen and uploads it to youtube, where it does fairly well!! it by now means makes him a viral sensation or anything, but it’s successful enough to make him a god amongst the outcasts and artsy types at his high school. this is where a lot of his ego and confidence and “i’m woker than you” complex gets super intensified, because the kids he was surrounded by were all entitled rich preps who were like ~wow you know about the war in iran~ and loved to put him on a pedastal of knowing so much about the world and being such an activist when he’s really just another left-leaning anarcho-socialist
his parents try for like .2 secs to convince him that the film industry is unreliable and not the best to go into, but he obviously doesn’t listen so they cough up some money and send him off to usc
and finally!! he is free from his upbringing!! he can be whoever he wants!! so that’s exactly what he does. i’ll just insert this portion of my app in bc i think it encapsulates it pretty well: and this is where robin 2.0 begins. it’s not that he’s ashamed of where he comes from - except that, well, yes he is. he hates the idea of making all these pictures about oppression and class struggle only to come from the dictionary definition of affluent privilege. so he doesn’t lie, necessarily, but he does borrow some storylines from the thousands of movies he’s seen in his life. at freshman orientation he comes from a poor village in east india; at a party downtown he’s from the wrong side of the tracks in the bronx; and at a local art gallery, where he first meets raphael brooks, he’s from a broken home on the outskirts of san francisco. he is the writer of his own life, able to keep each storyline perfectly separate, and he doesn’t say a word to anyone when he goes back to his million-dollar estate in the hills of colorado
he does well at film school, he makes some pretty decent films and because of his charming and magnetic nature he gets a good bit of job offers that would have him staying in la BUT he’s like “fuck that, la is superficial and pretentious and i’m gonna go to new york and make REAL art”
so he does, kind of? i’m literally so tired asfjkaslj i’m sorry i’m just gonna copy and paste more from my app, fuck original wording all my homies hate original wording: new york is everything he imagined it to be and yet nothing like it at all. he’s a stranger in this city all over again, and while that excites him as far as being able to craft a new character for himself, it also means he’s starting from scratch. and while everyone in california is obsessed with the glitz and glamour of movies, it feels like robin’s style of grit and provocativeness is the status quo amongst new york filmmakers. he finds himself resorting back to that rich boy attitude buried deep within him, wanting to be worshipped for his artistry and originality without wanting to put in any of the work. it’s been months now since he’s been able to beat this lazy streak and start on a new project, and it’s left him relying on asking his parents for rent money while telling everyone he’s just raking in an income from old and new projects alike. still, now that he’s in this rut, he can’t help but pass the days and wonder: is this it for him? is he a one-hit wonder only capable of regurgitating what everyone around him has already produced, or is there still a story inside of him to tell?
that’s it, i think !! i’m sorry i’m functioning on so little sleep, feel free to message me with any questions or concerns or complaints or PLOTS very excited to get started, xoxoxo

The BH 90210 Rewrite. 1x14: East Side Story
Rewrite Masterlist
Read the previous chapter here!
Chapter Summary: A new arrival at West Beverly has the reader a little on edge.
Warnings: swearing, jealousy, partially unedited writing.
Words: 2,900
My work is not to be reposted and/or edited without my expressed written consent. (Reblogging is fine and encouraged!!!)
Feedback is incredibly appreciated!
A/N: Hope everyone enjoys it! I feel like this is definitely more of a filler chapter, but it's fun nonetheless! Next week…Palm Springs Weekend ;)
-
“M.C. Hammer’s office.”
“Hi, how are you? Is he in for David Silver?” David’s voice sounds out through the school as he speaks on the phone and into the radio system.
“For who?”
“David Silver broadcasting live and direct from the tree-lined campus of West Beverly High!”
“West Beverly High?” The woman sighs, frustrated, “Does Mr. Hammer know who you are?”
“Not yet! But he will once you put the call through… Hello? Hello?”
“Man, David Silver has totally lost it,” you giggle as Brandon greets you in the hallway with a kiss.
“He’s not that bad,” he shrugs. He intertwines his fingers with yours as you trot to first period together.
“I’m sorry, but you wouldn’t be the least bit concerned with my well-being if I started calling up Madonna?” You raise an eyebrow inquisitively, “It’s not that he’s a bad kid… he’s just a little bit of a pest sometimes, y'know?” Brandon smiles as you continue, stopping at his locker and twisting the combination.
“Moving on from the thrilling life of David Silver,” he swings it open, piling book after book in his hands. “How are you and Kelly?” You sigh dramatically. “Still not good, huh?”
“She’s still not talking to me and I’m still not talking to her… I just don’t get it. Brenda forgave me, Brenda forgave her, we traded apologies, we had a group hug, everything was fine… if not a little weird,” you huff, leaning against the cold metal lockers. “She thinks Brenda wasn’t harsh enough with me for the whole Dylan fiasco.”
“And what do you think?”
“Well, for one, I think it’s ridiculous. If Brenda’s not mad, why should anyone else be? And what she did was way worse than what I did! But it’s fine. She’ll talk to me when she’s ready to talk to me. I’m just… a little aggravated.”
“Well, then I’m just gonna have to put in a little extra effort to relax you,” he propositions.
“I’d like to see you try, Walsh.”
-
“Do not tell me the printer broke again,” Andrea organizes the papers at her desk, sighing. Man, was negativity in the air today or what? You stand at the front of her desk, Brandon standing patiently behind you.
“Okay, I won’t,” you agree, “it’s the fax machine.”
“This school is falling apart right before my very eyes!” She criticizes melodramatically. “Can I help you?” She peers past your shoulder to the person behind you.
“This isn’t the new building, is it?” You turn back to face the girl, and what you aren’t expecting is… someone that pretty. Long gorgeous brunette curls fell down her shoulders. She smiles nervously, which draws attention to the dark cherry lipstick on her lips. Beverly Hills never falls short on pretty girls, does it?
“No. You have to go back out through the quad and past the science labs,” you tell her.
“Which way is that?”
“It’s through the double doors,” Brandon is standing with his back to her, studying the revised paper in his hand, “I’m going that way. I’ll show you.”
“And stick Andrea and I with your typos?” You tease, looking up at him as you sit down on the edge of the wooden desk.
“What typos?”
“You forgot an A in recreational and you failed to capitalize Sacramento,” Andrea indulges.
“And you have the guts to call yourself Sports editor?” You denounce him facetiously.
“Maybe Sacramento doesn’t deserve a capital,” he retorts.
“Hey, cheap shot! I was born in Sacramento,” the mystery girl pipes in.
“We’ll try not to hold it against you,” you joke. You hold out your hand for her to shake, “I’m Y/N, one of the reporters for the school newspaper. I do Lifestyle, Opinions, Entertainment. That sort of thing.” She shakes your hand and you notice how freshly painted and perfect her nails are.
“I’m Carla Montez–”
“Carla?” Brandon jumps in. Wait. This was Anna’s Carla? He had mentioned her earlier today but… this had to be her? “I’m Brandon Walsh. Y'know… Jim and Cindy Walsh?”
“Hello, Brandon.” Well, this was going to be fun.
-
And boy was it. As the day went on, you not only discovered she could speak in flawless french and could debate an English novel like no one’s business, but she actually knew something about computers and robotics. This totally blew. You don’t know why exactly, but it did. You were sure of it. And not only was she gorgeous, smart, and good with computers, but Brandon was at her side all day, showing her the ropes. Although you had a hunch she would’ve been just fine without him.
You walk through the Peach Pit doors with a relieved sigh as you’re met with your friends’ faces. “Hi, Brenda, Hi, Donna, Hi…” your words trail off as you get to Kelly, who’s actively avoiding your gaze. Without another word, you sit down at the counter next to Brenda and as far from your aggravating blonde friend as possible. Hey, at least Carla wasn’t here.
“Hey, Carla’s here!” Steve shouts out, standing behind you with a hand on your shoulder. Dammit. Dammit dammit dammit.
Brandon’s head pops out from the depths of the kitchen to check on the tables, but as soon as he lays eyes on you he lights up.
“Hey! I didn’t think you were coming along,” he greets you, bending over the counter to give you a quick peck. “Hold on a second, hey everyone. I’d like you to meet Carla. And Carla, this is Kelly, that’s Donna, the guy back there is Steve, this is my sister, Brenda, and Y/N, who you met earlier today.” Brandon goes down the line of his friends sitting at the counter, “and this handsome devil is Nat, Mr. Beverly Hills Chi-Chi himself.”
“He might be ugly, but he serves great pie,” Steve cracks.
“It’s an old family recipe. Right out of the box!” Nat guffaws, disappearing into the depths of the kitchen. You look over to Donna and right past Kelly, who’s flipping through a Chick Schneider catalog.
“Brenda, are you sure we can have anything we want?” You ask as Donna passes her extra magazine down to you. You start to go through it, the shiny pages adorned with tons of cute, fashionable, and unreasonably expensive clothes.
“Yeah! Just tell me the color, the size, and it’s yours.”
“God, these baggies are so trendoid,” Kelly giggles.
“Hey Bren, do you think Carla could place an order too?” Brandon shouts, a little further down at the counter with Steve.
“Sure, if she likes Chick Schneider’s stuff!”
“I love Chick Schneider… who’s Chick Schneider?” Carla jokes.
-
“Thanks for the ride home, Steve,” you unbuckle your seatbelt as he pulls into your driveway
He nods nonchalantly.
“Anytime,” he offers, “you alright? You seemed pretty rattled today.”
“I’m fine,” you assure him, “Hey, it didn’t rain, no electronics were destroyed, the interior of your car is still in good shape– I’d call this a good day.”
“Don’t change the subject, Y/N/N. Is this about Kelly?”
“This has nothing to do with Kelly! I couldn’t care less about the Kelly thing right now.”
“So it’s Brandon? I thought you two were in chastity belt heaven right now.”
“It’s not him it’s–” you stop yourself short, “Nothing. It’s nothing.”
“This is because of that Carla chick, isn’t it?” It isn’t until you shoot Steve a death glare that he knows he hit the nail on the head. “I knew it!”
“No, you didn’t–”
“You don’t have anything to worry about. You’re way hotter than that valley girl and if Brandon has any sense, he knows that too.”
-
“M.C. Hammer’s office.”
“Hi, M.C. Hammer please.” Another day, another desperate reach for M.C. Hammer.
“Who is this?”
“Well, if I tell you, do you promise not to hang up? Hello?”
“Hey, Scott!” You call out to him, waving him over to your locker.
“Hey, Y/N. What’s up?”
“What’s going on with D.J. David and M.C. Hammer?” You inquire playfully.
“David wants him to play at the prom,” he snorts.
“There’s no way M.C. Hammer would ever play at a school dance.”
“You know that and I know that. And M.C. Hammer knows that. But unfortunately, I think somebody forgot to tell David.”
-
You lean against your table in the Blaze’s workshop as Brandon struts in.
“Oh, hey, I need to ask you something!”
“Shoot,” he prompts you, slipping his hands from your waist to your lower back, pulling you close.
“What’s going on with Carla?”
“Y/N.” He removes his hands from you and begins to pull away.
“Not like that, okay? I know there’s nothing going on there. I-I jut5 happened to be in the Register’s Office dropping something off and Carla’s file just happened to be on the counter with her address showing.”
“Y/N,” he stresses.
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. I’m a little nosy, okay? And– and you know what? I’ve already forgotten what I saw. I know nothing. Who’s Carla?” He chuckles lightly at your joke.
“I’m glad,” he nods. You tap your fingers against the desk for a moment, pondering.
“Is she living at your house?”
“What do you think?”
“I think you need to be careful, Brandon! One person getting caught could spiral a major chain reaction. First Carla, then Andrea, then you and I have to duke it out to see who becomes editor-in-chief and I’m sorry but I just don’t think our relationship is strong enough to withstand a battle to the death for that editing position!” His demeanor changes as you finish your facetious rant and he laughs softly into your fist as he raises it up to his lips, kissing it.
“We’ll all be careful, Y/N/N.”
“That’s all I ask, Walsh.”
-
You nurse on your chocolate milkshake as Brandon walks up to your spot, smiling at you with the sweetest look he can muster.
“Have I mentioned how absolutely radiant you are today? And every day?” You roll your eyes at his saccharine grin.
“You want some of my milkshake, don’t you?” He nods. “I cannot believe you!” you laugh, “You get a discount, I have to pay for mine.”
“Nat puts extra chocolate syrup in yours,” he reasons. You roll your eyes for the second time and lift your cup up to him.
“One sip,” you giggle. He raises the straw up to his lips but stops just shy of them.
“Actually…” In one swift motion, he leans down and brings your lips to his in a soft yet deep kiss. You moan softly as his tongue gently pushes into your mouth, and just as soon he’s pushing away. “I was right. It tastes better that way.”
“Guys, please. I just want to eat my eggs.”
Steve’s voice cuts you both out of your trance, a disgusted, slightly amused look on his face. You have to fight to hold back your laugh as Dylan enters.
“Well, if it isn’t Dylan, the wild surfman!” Brandon greets cheerfully. Dylan’s hair is soaked, but the rest of him is dry as he parks himself next to you.
“Don’t tell me it wasn’t cold out there this morning,” Steve inquires.
“Oh, no, man. It was happening, waves were breaking,” Dylan responds, then he looks pointedly at you, “they missed you.”
“The waves have been totally needy recently, I told them to back off but they just keep calling me,” you do your best valley girl accent as a rebuttal.
“Ha ha ha,” Dylan deadpans a fake laugh, but interrupts with a smile he tries to fight off.
“Hey, that’s the same shirt I ordered from Brenda’s catalog!” Steve notices. Dylan messes with the neckline of his shirt delicately.
“Yeah, I’m supposed to get some baggies tonight. The party’s still on, right?”
“You mean the social event of the season?” Brandon raises an eyebrow, taunting the nature of the event.
“Hey, any event where I can get free designer clothes is an event worth rooting for,” you point a finger at your very accommodating waiter. He kisses your head before picking up your empty plate and moving onto a different group of guests.
-
“What do you mean I can’t go?!” You shout at your father, who’s sitting on the living room couch with a Reader’s Digest in his hand.
“I mean Jim Walsh is a crude and unfair individual. I will not have you fraternizing with that family!”
“I don’t even know the Walshes! I probably won’t even see them, let alone fraternize with them.” You tap your foot impatiently, “Besides, Steve Sanders invited me. I’ll be hanging out with him all night anyway.” Your father perks up at his name.
“Well…” he flips the tiny page in his book, pondering. “You can go. For an hour. Stay close to Steve… avoid that bastard accountant.” You don’t know what’s worse– your dad trusting Steve or the fact that you could now only refer to Jim Walsh as the “Bastard Accountant.”
-
You slump against the wall, a fruity mocktail in your hand. You’re watching Brandon talk to Carla in the living room as she flips her hair and gives him a smile. She has a great smile. That makes you sick. You take a swig of your brightly colored drink, trying to let the sweetness of the beverage soothe the built-up frustration in your stomach.
“Y/N and Brandon have been on top of each other non-stop lately. You know, for a couple of virgins, they’re the biggest horn dogs I’ve ever met,” Steve bites half-bitterly, half-jokingly.
“He’s really flipped for her in a major way, huh?” Dylan leans against the fireplace, setting down his soda with a metallic clank. He glances over to you, watching you nurse on your drink as you watch someone else. Every cheesy laugh she gives Brandon makes you just a little bit more nauseous every single time. No one was that funny.
“Definitely.”
Carla gives Brandon one last cheeky smile and it’s your breaking point. You practically slam your martini glass onto the nearest table, turn on your heel, and stomp your way upstairs. Dylan jumps forward, about to follow you up there, but Steve stops him with the back of his hand as he sees Brandon zoom past him.
“He’s got it covered.”
You can hear the rapidly approaching footsteps as you lie on Brandon’s bed, watching the fan swirl around and around and around. You hear the footsteps skid to a stop as he reaches for the door, takes a moment to compose himself, and swings it open.
“What’s goin’ on, Y/N/N?” He sets himself next to you as you sit up, brushing your hand through your hair. As you sit in your total mental breakdown, you can’t help but think how good he looked in that white sweater, how good he always looked. You stare at your feet, and while they looked good, they hurt like a bitch. Time to make the switch to flats. “C'mon, Y/N/N. Talk to me.” You groan.
“Carla follows you around like a puppy and I want to scratch her eyes out.” You indulge bluntly.
“So that’s what this is about? You’re jealous of Carla?”
“You say that like I’m being ridiculous, Brandon, she follows you like a puppy and she’s insanely gorgeous and so smart and y'know, it’s not like I have anything to be jealous of! We never agreed on being exclusive so–”
“Y/N.”
“As far as I’m concerned you’re fair game and–”
“Y/N.”
“What?”
“You want to know why I think you being jealous of Carla is so ridiculous? Because she’s never going to be you, Y/N/N. When I said I wanted to be with you I meant it. I don’t want Carla, or Kelly, or Farrah Fawcett, or anyone else for that matter. I just want you.” Well, if you weren’t in love with him yet, you were now.
-
“I wish it could be like this with everyone,” Brandon smiles as you walk into the newsroom, hand in hand.
“Like what?” You ask.
“You know, how we are with each other. Easy, comfortable. Effortless.”
“You’re making our relationship sound like a car rental service,” you tease, “besides, being with you?” You turn your head and give him a chaste kiss, “such a chore.”
“Okay, don’t hang up, just don’t hang up! Now, this is David Silver, the voice of West Beverly High and I really don’t care that he doesn’t want to come to our homecoming dance. Or that he’s one of the top recording and video artists in the world. But at least you could put my call through one time without hanging up! So… having said all that could I please talk to M.C. Hammer?”
“M.C. Hammer? Sorry. Think you have the wrong number.”
You stifle a laugh as to not disrupt the rest of the room, “Anyway… where’s Carla?”
“She went back home, I guess whatever issues she was having were cleared up.”
“Oh,” you feign sadness quite awfully, “That’s… that’s too bad… do you want to go to the movies tonight?”

A Longer Trip Back Home

Hey, have a cigarette?
She always asks me if I have a cigarette when she has emptied the last box. Of course I do not have it, she knows. My mother spends all her wages on cigarettes. My mother, a waitress at a café in the center of a suburban residential area at the edge of the world. In the afternoon, the café is filled with ladies. They are housewives coming from elegant houses at the edge of the world, killing time. Mother and the ladies play mah-jongg every Wednesday at the café, in the center of the town, where the smoke of cigarettes wafts stronger than the scent of coffee.
You must go straight home and study, Mother says, as a mother would.
I always stop by a used record store on my way home from high school. Music is the heart of my mind. Today, my favorite tune, “Running Away,” is playing in the store. The Raincoats’ version, not Sly & The Family Stone’s, which is actually called “Runnin’ Away.” I sing to the music.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
The vinyl collector is smiling wryly.
Delightful tune, but ironical lyrics, he says. I have a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage. I wonder how many more years I have to work. I want to sell this store and get away to San Francisco, the heart of the world. Why? You can see the ocean from the top of the hill. That is all.
His 11-year-old son, strangely mature, enters the conversation while listening near the cash register.
How about your boyfriend? No lover? If you are not in love yet, it is too late. But dad is too young for an affair.
The boy’s eyes twinkle with curiosity. There is a big Himalayan cedar in the back of the record store, and sometimes an owl appears on a branch. When I am staying in the store, forgetting time, I hear the owl tu–whit tu–whoo. A small river flows at the root of the cedar, and there is a small old church on the marsh.
When I was a child, a wedding was held by the side of this river. I was a bridesmaid, and the cedar was decorated like a Christmas tree. The guests carried an enormous red sea bream into the kitchen in preparation for the ceremony. My mother and the vinyl collector’s wife poached the eggs to a beautiful golden colour and boiled four dozen white asparagus as a side dish. On a Swedish glass dish in bas‐relief with dandelions, the butter slowly melted beside the radishes.
Yes. It was spring.
Someone knocked on the door of the kitchen. Ladies in aprons looked around. They thought the knock was the prank of a spring storm. But it was the bridegroom. He rushed to the kitchen sink and turned the tap to gulp down some water. An old woman named Eliza shouted to him from her house across the way.
Too late! The bride has gone somewhere! She is a wayward girl!
Too far! It took a million hours on a bus from Shibuya station! he joked, spouting water from his inflated mouth and soaking his bow tie. He was a chipmunk that came to this marsh on a gondola of chicory leaves.
The bride was beautiful. She was clinging to the cedar, and as she reached out to the star ornaments shining on the branches of the tree, a warm wind teased the hem of her champagne dress. Guests grew excited, little by little. The sky was getting dark. I was crouching alone on the bank of the river at dusk. The chipmunk ran away from the banquet and gave me a leftover chicory leaf like a tiny boat. The boat left my hand. The boat drifted on the river, far away.
Where does this river come from? I questioned the bridegroom.
A mountain? I do not know. Ha! he answered.
Where does this river go to?
The river reflected the sunset. The chicory boat was floating freely on the water.
The sea? Ah, Tokyo Bay, the Pacific? Ha! Ha!
Tokyo Bay? Little did I know a small river in my small town flows into the infinite ocean. I had never seen the sea.
A girl in a swimsuit with a yellow floral pattern is swimming in a murky pool. Someone beckons her, seduces her. She becomes a little fish and approaches him trembling with fear. No. The girl dives in the ocean for the first time. Not the pool. A blowfish hides at the bottom of the sea. White round blowfish like clouds shine in the sunlight breaking through the faint waves. The blowfish has poison. She keeps swimming in pursuit of poison. A blowfish with white belly inflated does not move. Is he dead? As he opens his eyes slowly, he laughs, showing his teeth.
All of us have a place in history. Mine is in the clouds, he says *[1].
Dad! she cries with joy. Her father died a drunk at fifty years of age. Everyone says it was a slow-motion suicide. No. Certainly, he lives his life at the bottom of the sea, or as the shadow of a cloud floating on the surface of the ocean. There is a Japanese proverb: control poison with poison. Her father was fighting the evil in his mind with his own poison. She remembers his rounded back. Late at night, or on a Sunday afternoon, he headed to his desk with a bottle of Johnnie Walker and read the collection of poems. She cannot remember the titles of foreign books. The poems were written in English or French. The girl begins to swim toward the sun. Petals scattering from her swimsuit shine in the water. Like cherry blossoms dancing in a cloudy sky.
The memory of the wedding at the root of the Himalayan cedar raised for me the riddle of a small river in my small town. I decided to explore the headsprings and the destination of this flow. I bought a 1950s map of Tokyo at Jimbōchō. At the ward office, I found historical documents about Shibuya Ward. The map showed that the source of river was a marsh under the church. One more place. I found a pond on the site of an old mansion, the place I always see on my way to school. No one seemed to live there, and unmanaged trees grew thick behind the high wall. The map said Davies House. Once a British trading merchant lived here. Mr. Davies sold his mansion and returned home in the 1980s. During the Edo period, in the 1600s, it was a pleasure garden called Oyama-en. The garden was not a place for children to play. There were no merry-go-rounds, roller coasters or kiosks selling gelato. It was the place where poets gathered, in the gazebo at the pond. Intellectuals enjoyed tea and spent time meditating.
The gate of the abandoned mansion had been closed for about 40 years. One fine Sunday, I found out that the site of the mansion was open to Shibuya residents, but only for the day. The garden was already full of people strolling with flowers in their hands. The petals shine with droplets, because the night before was rainy. The faces of people are shining with curiosity. Not only the vines of feral trees but also the ferns are crawling at my feet. I have difficulty walking. In the deep green woods, a lacquered bridge is painted a particularly bright shade of red. I stand on the bridge. Under it, spring water bubbles in a dry pond.
A chipmunk of about 12 centimeters fills his cheeks with buds and jumps off the zelkova tree. The chipmunk is eating mock strawberries growing around the pond.
This is cute Fraisier de Duchesne. Mock Strawberry is also called poison strawberry, but it is not poisonous. Try it. Ha! the chipmunk says to me proudly and plays in the pond using the red fruit as a beach ball. The bright red strawberry slips through his fingers and is swallowed by invisible swirls on the water. It disappears into the drain of the pond. There is a river, a culvert, beyond the drain. It was buried in concrete beneath the Metropolitan Area when the Olympics were held in Tokyo in 1964.
Fraisier de Duchesne left itself to the water. Sunlight melted into the Kōhone-River. The water was warm. Kōhone Flowers–East Asian yellow water-lilies–surrounding the river were swaying gently in the wind. Leaves were floating on the surface. Fraisier de Duchesne came out of the darkness in the groundwater and bathed in the sunlight on a leaf. A little boy and his father held hands and passed by Fraisier de Duchesne. They were singing a song.
A small river in spring is flowing smoothly *[2]
To violets and milk-vetch flowers on the shore
While flowering gently in beautiful colour
Bloom please, bloom, While whispering
Fraisier de Duchesne, pretty in red, has no poison and knows nothing about poison. It will leave itself to the stream of water and time as ever.
I am standing on Inari-Bridge near the Shibuya Station. All rivers leading to this bridge are culverts. Buildings are towering on both sides of the bridge, a forest of department stores, restaurants, brothels. Shibuya River flows under the bridge. I can see the water with my eyes. The river passes through the downtown. Various people come and go. Various voices are confused with various languages. The clear stream has revived on the Shibuya River before the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. I am moved by the truth that there is a sea called Tokyo Bay, if I will swim about 6.8 kilometers from here. The orange colour of the sun floating on the Shibuya River is the same as it on the nameless small river in my small town. The murmur of a stream whispers.
Shall we run away to the ocean?
I have forever heard it. The music was played repeatedly on a late-night program on the radio. Maybe it is a melody signaling that a passenger ship is leaving port but is not suitable for departure. Colourful flags on the mast are fluttering in the blue sky. On the surface of the sea, reversed flags shimmer like stained glass. Their shadows are waving to the pulse of engines. I recall that this was my favorite song while looking at the port far away. On my way home, on the bus, I am listening to “Runnin’ Away” on my mobile phone. Sly & The Family Stone’s version, not The Raincoats’, which is anyway called “Running Away.”
San Francisco is too far. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Murmuring aloud, I can see from the window that the huge rain cloud chases the bus. The cloud seems to be as high as Montmartre. The front window of the bus is sprayed with heavy rain and becomes completely white. Lightning and the sudden shower cut off my music. The bus has no choice but to stop at the station square. The smell of rain invades. I hear footsteps of seasonal changes. I know that I was pretending not to notice the change of seasons. A mother and child in the seat across the aisle are talking.
We left our umbrella in grandma’s home, but it will clear up soon.
They are looking at brand new shoes they just bought at the department store. Desert boots which are made of suede. I wonder if they are trying to transport themselves by supernatural force to a desert planet 900 light years from the earth. There is no sea on the other side of the moon. I am thinking of the sea.
Yes. Summer will come soon.

Takano had his residence near the Kōhone-River (Yoyogi 3-chōme Shibuya-Ward, Tokyo) when he wrote the lyrics of Small River in Spring. At that time, Kōhone-River was running as a stream that supplied water to the fields, and joined the Shibuya River.

Living in the PNW be like
(That’s Pacific Northwest, The upper left of America for all you normal fuckin people)
I’m sitting in my room listening to coyotes scream in my back fukin yard/pasture. This happens every night. I hope they don’t try to kill my neighbors dog again.
Said pastureland is actually a floodplain. There’s just a giant hole in the middle of this town and it floods sometimes but only like a few days at a time so people put animals there. I had a horse growing up and our neighbors have 2 plus a mule and up higher on the hill there’s some of those long haired cows and we watch their babies run around in the hill from our front window with binoculars cause that’s literally the most entertaining thing that happens around here.
Is it pouring down rain and cold as balls? Yes. Am I going to walk to the store to buy pizza rolls? Yeah. Am I wearing a coat with a hood or bringing an umbrella? Fuck no!
Literally every single house has at least 2 of these plants growing in their yard: lilacs, cherry trees, Japanese maple, or rodhedendron (98% sure I spelled that wrong but even my phone has no idea what I just typed)
Sometimes bald eagles and other large scary birds just show up and the crows beat the shit out of them and it’s kinda funny and kinda terrifying. I once had over a hundred crows in the trees around my house screaming their heads off cause a hawk pissed them off.
We all (on the western side of the mountains) have giant ass trees like 10 feet from our homes. No this is not safe. No we will not be doing anything about it. If our fuckoff crazy windstorms haven’t knocked the bitches over yet then they seem intent on sticking around.
We get winds high enough to tip over trucks like every other week in winter but like not in proper storms. Like it doesn’t rain, it’s not a tornado or a hurricane, it’s just Fuckin WIMDY. And they don’t cancel school for it either I was waking from one building to another for class and I had to brace myself against a wall cause the wind nearly blew me tf away!
Also we get annoying thunderstorms. Like you think it’s over but it never is! And it’s even worse on the east side, it sounds like the thunder is In Your Body. Shits gonna knock stuff off your tables.
The center of Washington is this massive fuckoff volcano that’s overdue for erupting and when it does it’s gonna wipe out over half the west side’s cities and absolutely no one is concerned. I’m especially not concerned cause I, like all the other smart people, am moving east where I can live in the middle of nowhere and live off subsistence farming with my gay colony from college.
There is a surprising amount of rednecks here. Like it’s a weird ratio. And there not like, normal ones either. It’s like they’re cosplaying what we all think of when we hear the words “North Carolina” or “Alabama” I’m talking all camo outfits at school and big fuckoff trucks with two American flags on the back and obnoxious bumperstckers and all the horrible opinions to match. A lot even talk with fake southern accents. It’s like the weebs of the redneck world.
Like excuse me Conner your family has lived in this county since the 1930’s and I’d fuckin know cause your grandpa went to school with mine and our dads worked together at the printing company before it moved to California and half the school can claim the exact same cause we’re basically one giant small town where everyone knows everyone and no one ever moves out! You’re not from Texas. No one believes you’re from Texas. Stop talking like a Hollywood born and bred actor being forced to play a cowboy!
