Reo Māori Dub of 'Moana 2' Arrives the Same Day as English-Language Counterpart
A little over a month remains until Moana 2 hits theaters, and for folks in New Zealand, they’ll have more than one way of experiencing it. In addition to watching the sequel to the beloved 2016 animated film in English, there will also be the option of watching it dubbed in reo Māori; making it the first time an indigenous-language Disney animated feature will premiere alongside its…

Just wanna add about Chelsea, the people who put her on the pedestal do so in a very shallow way. They only talk about her as Taika's ex wife, not as her own person. They never talk about her work or achievement. Heck, he's talked about it more than they have. They only bring her up to talk badly about Taika and Rita.
The truth is, in addition to the Madonna-Whore complex the other anon mentions, gossipers are thirsty for drama, so they make up their own theories out of basically nothing. It doesn't matter than they're spreading shit about real people. It's more exciting than boring reality. There's a line in Anatomy of a Fall that mentions this, I cant remember it properly right now
Hey Anon!
UGHHHHHH, Seriously. They treat her like a man's object and not her own person and that bugs the shit out of me. It's the same patriarchal nonsense that's been engrained in our society for forever and I'm really hoping we're starting to move past it. These people need to start treating women like they are their own damn person. On that note, Imma go track down Chelsea on some social media platforms and follow her, I should have done that before.
You're right, people look for ways to make up stuff. Kind of reminds me of the tabloids that take a picture of a random situation and then spin it into this huge story.
Oh interesting, I hadn't heard of Anatomy of a Fall until you just mentioned it! I'm gonna have to check it out now, I love Crime/Thrillers.
Thanks for being supportive and keeping up the discussion Anon! Hope you have a great weekend! Try not to let the trolls get to you today! <3

"I will do what I can every day of the week to support brown women telling their stories, because in my mind, we've got the most interesting things to say." That has led Winstanley to launching her own production company, Matewa Media, and working with Disney to bring about te reo translations of animations, including Moana, The Lion King, and, most recently, Frozen.

Matlock
My brother sent me this article about the tension between the Chelsea ownership.
Brother: I guess this makes me team Mr. Todd over Clearlake?
Me: Yeah, this is a big red flag: 'Under the new structure, Winstanley and Stewart have complete autonomy over football strategy, with their proposals and decisions ratified by Clearlake and Boehly before Eghbali then executes.'
Brother: I don't how we make any transfers if we need that many approvals.
Me: Exactly. Also I think this means we'll never get a decent manager because I doubt any known name manager would agree to this. Thank god they leave the women's side alone.
Brother: I hope the women's side is just monitored by Wyss.
Me: Wyss is so old, Paul Green probably just waits until he's watching whatever the Swiss version of Matlock is (Mätlöck) and then makes the requests and Wyss is like, all right, son, now I have to watch my stories.
Brother: I hope when he goes to the matches, he is watching Mätlöck on a phone in his lap.
Me: The phone is probably too complicated for him, so he has to watch Mätlöck on a small handheld TV from the '90s connected to a VCR.

Taika is the reason all those shows ended (rez dog had planned 3 seasons, he hasnt done much w wwdits since s1, for ofmd i believe david took a bad deal w a literal devil).
So i put this on another post but its buried lets redo it
Good reasons to hate Taika:
*hes a zionist and has been for years. Despite claims the only other ofmd cast who is maybe zionist is Rhys. His wife controls his social media and tweeted support for Israel. He must be ok with it hes never refuted it. Meanwhile no one has provided proof Con is zionist. He, Vico, Nathan, Samba, and David have all at least once (and some more than once) posted pro palestine stories on instagram. Vico is particularly passionate for free palestine
*his wife not only pretends to be black (shes white af) but thinks hes samoan...
*He said awful things about trans ppl in 2014 in his mid 30s. Went on to make Next Goal Wins in 2020 and it has a heavy transphobe laden plot line which is a dishonor to its queer actress. Hes never apologized for either even when called to do so
*He married film producer/director Chelsea Winstanley, brought her along, had two kids, got bored and dumped her for Rita Ora. There is no gap. So now she has no career and is raising his kids, he glass ceilinged her
*he did hire Kayvan for Nandor despite his extremely recent use of blackface on a show that Kayvan had almost complete control over (some of the black face was only a few years old when wwdits was in pilot mode).
*declares himself both a proud indigenous icon (see trophy wife) and a gay icon (despite hating trans ppl and claiming he is straight).
When i say claiming i mean the man acts like…not…but lets just take him at his word. How the fuck can u be a gay icon as a straight man who constantly belittles trans ppl? When criticized around Next Goal Wins he cited OFMD as proof hes not anti trans…despite not inventing the character of Jim and seemed to have nothing to do with Vico’s hiring. He uses them as a citation despite cast and writer interviews revealing most of the ofmd queerness we love came from the actors (and two writers were key to making Jim nonbinary with vico).
(Now w receipts)

Just gonna leave this here...
"I didn't want to be the dutiful wife and race over to the Gold Coast where he [Waititi] was making Thor and sit in an apartment all day long f***ing twiddling my thumb.
"I think I was married to someone who really, was just on their own buzz, and [had] tunnel vision for whatever reasons," she says.

im not trying to start shit and be all "boo taika" but i guess i'm just curious as to your take in this article. i realize this might be a complicated thing to answer but idk when i read it i was like "well this isnt great"
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/509912/chelsea-winstanley-i-was-married-to-someone-who-was-on-their-own-buzz
hey anon!
fascinated (affectionate) to hear that i am someone whose opinions people are interested in lmao
i read this article yesterday and my overall feelings towards it are that this doesn't change anything for me and shouldn't change anything for most people
the gist of the article seems to be that taika got offered the thor ragnarok job and it came with a ridiculous paycheck and there was no way he was ever going to turn it down (valid). chelsea didn't want to put her own career on the backburner or uproot her kids to move to australia while he was directing it (also valid). this led to their relationship breaking down, which is totally understandable, because if you're in a couple it's really fucking difficult when you're forced to make a decision that is going to heavily favour one person.
he may or may not have cheated. if he did, he's not the first person to cheat, and he won't be the last. if he didn't, that doesn't mean the relationship was perfect and had nothing else going on.
i will happily sit here and call people out for spreading misinformation about taika when it's demonstrably false (clock my pinned post etc). but i've never engaged with any of the shit about 'he cheated on his wife' 'he abandoned his kids' 'he's a bad dad' etc because ultimately i don't know anywhere near enough about his family to make a judgement on that, it would be very weird if i did, and i don't care!
i don't know the guy! i'm never going to meet him! he's never going to directly impact my life or the lives of anybody i care about! i really enjoy his art, and one of my main hobbies is shitposting on this hellsite about a show that he's a lead actor in, and i appreciate an attractive gifset of him, but that's where it stops.
maybe he cheated on his wife. maybe he's a terrible father. it doesn't matter to me bc i'm not going to marry him and he's not my dad. he's a good director and a good actor and that's as far as i'm interested.

glad that chelsea winstanley is speaking about how miserable she was in her marriage to taika waititi. she deserves to be recognised for her work in her own right and has gone through horrific things in her life and still came out the other side.

One thing I notice about the Taika hate especially in regard to Rita is the way the haters really idolise Taika's first wife Chelsea Winstanley and put her on a pedistool, according to them, she is this goddess he owes his whole life and career too and he MUST have screwed her over and she must have been the 'victim' in their breakup (people love spreading baseless rumours there is absolutely NO actual evidence for, i find those rumours peoole spread actually really painful to hear about), but Chelsea and Taika support each others work to this day, and make out he abandoned her and his kids when he got big (i saw someone say he hasnt talked to his kids in years which is factually untrue hes always posting with his kids and they were with him for a lot of the pandemic).
I also find the way she is contrasted with Rita jarring, I get the impression they see her as 'classy' while Rita is 'trashy', they literally refer to Rita as his 'girlfriend' rather than his wife when discussing her, implying Chelsea is the only one who is wife material and Rita is just his 'wh*re', I even saw one person saying she is doing so much cool stuff but Taika is only promoting Rita's stuff cos 'men think with their penises' (I HATE THAT PHRASE!) but Taika has promoted Chelsea's work before he had Rita's song link in his bio he had the link to her and his sister Tweedy's Maori translations of the Lion King.
I find that whole thing very 'Madonna-Whore' dichotomy, I also see people go on about how she is 'the mother of his children' in a bid to make him feel guilty for being with Rita, which I feel like shows the idealisation of mothers in society and how they are seen as 'better' than other women (something Jennette Mccurdy mentioned in her book) while we know how demonised stepmothers are, just look at sl many fairytales.
And of course all this is used to make Taika look bad.
Hey Anon! Sorry for the delay! Every time I came to answer you I had crazy stuff at work happen.
Yeah it's really uncomfortable how they just kind of make up rumors about him. He did those "dad" videos for forever and people were saying he wasn't in contact with his kids then too (which is like.. they're on camera with him man, and they were in his show in 2023?). It's a growing problem with people who are "hearing things" on the internet and believing them as truths with little to no research of their own (or going to sources that are entirely biased in their directions so of course they'll get corroborating "evidence").
Thank you for sharing this perspective, especially about the "mother ideal" vs the "whore". I agree, it seems like there's a lot of hate towards Rita for being just a modern woman not wanting to go down the traditional "mother" route. It's crazy that it's 2024 (omg crap is it really 2024) and people are still expecting women to only be birthers. I'm a mom, but I chose to be a mom, I knew that was something I wanted a lot of my life because I love kids and I love language, and learning and seeing that in a kiddo is great! But I know so many women and men who don't want children and that's completely normal! Not every person on this planet has to procreate (and honestly we're overpopulated as it is), and labeling women whores for not wanting to be a mother really is incredibly puritanical. Unfortunately, I feel like no matter what Taika does... supports Rita doesn't support Rita, supports Chelsea, doesn't support Chelsea, sees his kids too often, sees his kids too little, someone is going to have a problem with him. Multiple anons and mutuals have brought up that it really is pretty damn racist how the people getting the most hate are the brown indigenous man, and his Albanian wife. It's incredibly frustrating, especially considering how much he does for indigenous films, shows, and people in general.
Ps: Regarding "men think with their penises" that doesn't even make sense like... are you NOT supposed to support the women in your life? Like what does the penis even have to do with anything in this case?
I will make the note in case you werent already aware I am a white woman so I don't want to speak to black or indigenous experience when they can do it better-- but I would like to share a work by a Black Writer I follow on IG.
SRC: blackliturgies
I feel like this is INCREDIBLY apt when it comes to the situation of Taika (and honestly women in general who don't go down the mother path). Whether people realise it's a part of systemic racism (and sexism) or not, so many people have been programmed to shame others if they don't follow the "norm". It's why it's so important for everyone to keep fighting back whenever that shame becomes public. Anyway, sorry, your talking points are really important and they got me rambling! I appreciate you bringing them up. If you wanna talk more about them feel free to DM me!
Thanks for writing in anon, I hope you have a good day and stay safe and warm out there! <3

STAN WALKER
I AM
