The day started in the bus itself we were still on our way to Amritsar. We reached Amritsar around 10:30 am and it took us 1:30 hours to reach the place we booked – the Niwas, for which we had to change two taxis and also had to carry our bags for a very long time(they were very heavy:P) and with a lot of difficulties we finally found and reached the place. It was quite a task to actually reach the place; we had wasted a lot of time searching for it as there was another place with the same name and the old streets of Amritsar looked very similar. As we entered the room we were delighted to see the AC, we quickly freshened up and were all set for wagah border.
All set for Wagah Border.
At Wagah Border.
We then had some coke(for just 5 bucks) and cold chocolate(yummiest in Punjab for just 15 bucks) near the golden temple. The beverages were this cheap as they were inside the temple area and no tax is charged there. After that, we went with our driver(the one we hired for Wagah Border) to have lassi(it was yummy) and Lassi is consumed more than water in Punjab. Then we sat in the car and left for Wagah border, we took a halt for lunch where we had the most amazing chole with butter dipped kulchas ever. We reached the border around 3:45 pm. It took us an hour to reach the main border gate(the line of visitors was that big.:P) and the stadium-like arena where the parade takes place. People were present in thousands and we all settled one by one on the pavilion seats. It was so hot that our clothes were drenched in sweat. It was like a festival over there people of all cast, creed and religion were present and were enjoying the patriotic feels. The presenter started the things by handing over the Indian flags to the women standing in the front row and each one of them took one round each of the parade arena and they were more than happy, it was like a dream come true for them. Then after several flags were hoisted by the women, next they started playing songs like India wale, suno gaur se duniya walo, and many more and invited all the women to dance Their hearts out, they were dancing like crazy, even the foreigners danced and were enjoying a lot. The crowd was hooting slogans of “Hindustan zinda bad”, “Bharat mata ki Jai”, “vande Mataram”.
Never felt this patriotic.
Pakistan’s side
The soldiers. – Salute
It gave me the feeling of watching an India- Pakistan match live. Then around 6:30 the parade began with a hooter and 2 commandos marched past till the border gate. After that 2 women soldiers did the same and then 6 soldiers together marched past till the gate and their intensity was unmatchable. The crowd went berserk and shouted and hooted on top of their voices. Then the soldiers went till the gate opened it(this was not any gate but, the India-Pak border gate) and you can imagine how the crowd might have cheered and hooted back to our neighbours. The soldiers at the border gate gave a stare and it seemed like a lion roaring with glory at the other side(Pak side) with pride and he walked Seena Taan Ke! After some time everyone stood up as the national flag was being taken down. The discipline with which the BSF and the soldiers did every little thing was superb. Then the soldiers from both sides shook hands as if they wanted to break it, with great valour and energy. The parade ended and one by one everyone started to leave. I wanted to go till the border; so, as I reached the border gate and looked back to see that I lost my friends. Luckily before leaving for the parade, we decided if anyone gets lost we reach the meeting point. I searched everywhere to find my mates, thank god finally, after 15 mins for searching a gentleman gave me his phone and I called Gagan and asked where they were! By then I was relaxed and they reached the meeting point after 5 mins. We were on our way back to our Niwas in Amritsar. Then we did some shopping and went to the room freshened up and by 10 pm we left for Golden temple, it was so majestic I couldn’t take my eyes off even for a second.
Golden Temple #1
Golden Temple #2
Golden Temple #3
Golden Temple #4
Golden Temple #5
It was like a dream come true. I took a picture from all possible angles. Then we joined the queue for the darshan. We were so lucky that we reached the main temple in 5 mins, I prayed God for everything he has given and for the future. I thanked him for our successful journey to Leh. After we did the darshan, we took the kana Prasad, I took it three times as I loved it. Then we took several pictures with the temple and of the temple from various angles. Then we headed for the Langar. We had dal, rajma, kheer and roti. It tasted amazing and I took the kheer twice as it was very yummy. Then we left from the Langar and I took some pinni Prasad for people at home.
Chandelier Inside the temple
Majestic
The place where all the dishes are washed seemed to me like a big group of humans working faster than machines. It was very well coordinated like step-by-step washing, wiping and putting the plates together. It is one place in India where you feel so majestic it cannot be described in words. After eating the yummiest food after a decade we headed back to the Niwas and changed and I crashed off as soon as we reached. Day 10 was like a dream come true for me as I visited the Golden temple after 15 years and was planning since years but, due to some or the other reason it never happened.
Day 11 – Dream Trip To Leh The day started in the bus itself we were still on our way to Amritsar. We reached Amritsar around 10:30 am and it took us 1:30 hours to reach the place we booked - the Niwas, for which we had to change two taxis and also had to carry our bags for a very long time(they were very heavy:P) and with a lot of difficulties we finally found and reached the place.
