MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK When Harper Brevig’s Aunt Lorene passed away, she left her bookstore to Harper, which surprised Harper very much because she was her least favorite niece. But she did have a degree that should help her in running the store. But as Harper continues each month to make ends meet, that profit is just not adding up. What is she to do. Twice Sold Tales is such a fun book to read. And I love, love the title. What a great name for a bookstore! I love the little town of Red Wing, Minnesota. It has the most fascinating and interesting people. But the main thing is the love they have for others. Harper is a wonderful character, and my heart melted at her love for Bennie. Noah is adorable and is too hard on himself. But maybe Harper can help with that? Both Bennie and Noah stole my heart from the beginning. Author Chautona Havig created the best of the best characters for this story. I could relate to the small town and its people because I grew up in one, and the people were very much like those in Red Wing. The romance between Noah and Harper, well it was so slow you wonder if there is one. But keep reading. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series. I has to be good! I’m giving Twice Sold Tales Five Stars! A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. Past Forward: an audiobook review with a wrong first impression
Past Forward: an audiobook review with a wrong first impression
Past Forward by Chautona Havig is a story I never would have been drawn to initially. Not because of content simply due to the fact that it is a new author for me, it is volume 1 of 6, and to be honest the cover didn’t initially appeal to me. However I was wrong! This story is fantastic! I loved it on audio (I did increase the reading speed to 1.55) and I couldn’t get enough. I ended up starting…

Bookstrings Book 1 Twice Sold Tales by Chautona HavigKindleMy rating: 5 of 5 starsGreat openingThe title, the cover, the author, and the subject all got me salivating from the start. According to the title line, this is the beginning of a series and I really do hope so. Betwixt Two Hearts ~ A Crossroads Collection
Betwixt Two Hearts ~ A Crossroads Collection
I felt very honored to be invited to participate in the new Crossroads Collection: Betwixt Two Hearts. I bought the first three when they came out, and I enjoyed the unique concept – a collection of novellas that are each free-standing book but tied together in a theme, and one full-length book by Amanda Tru that connects them all.  (Note – most of the “novellas” were more like full-length books.)

"Will Not See" (Sight Unseen series) by Chautona Havig I fell in love with Ella in "None So Blind," the first novel in the Sight Unseen' series, so I wasn't sure how I would feel about Vikki, in this novel. She is a very different character with many different symptoms in her "amnesia" than Ella. She presents with a different scenario and background. The one person they have in common: the psychiatrist, Dr Penniman, whom, just for the record, I have never liked or trusted from day one. But I digress, this is about "Will Not See" and Vikki's story. You hear someone knocking on the door. You just want them to go away. You don't answer. Housekeeping enters. Quickly apologizes and leaves. You have no idea where you are, who you are or what is going on. The hospital thinks you are crazy until they realize you presents with similar symptoms as another woman did about a year ago. Unexplained amnesia. Your name? Vikki Jeffries. You are a long way from home. You live in Apache Junction, Arizona. Why are you in the town of Rockland out in the Midwest? You clearly don't know. No one is looking for you, as far as anyone can tell. Your amnesia presents differently than Ella Weeks, the first woman struck, although some areas of the brain scan seem to be a bit similar, so you are told. One thing you both have in common? Dr Penniman, the psychiatrist. (As an aside, I, the reader, never liked her or trusted her from the very beginning of "None So Blind," the first book in the series, which is Ella's story.) At the request of Dr. Penniman, Ella is called and introduces herself to Vikki, tells you her story and ensures you that you are not alone. After a few days in the hospital, you have had enough and decide to return to Arizona. Shortly after doing so, while talking to a neighbor, a couple of thugs come looking for you. Luckily Brandon helps you out. They leave when they hear sirens and after trashing your apartment. Sadly, this means nothing to you other than there is now a mess. Since you have no idea why they are after you or what they want, this just adds more questions to your overloaded brain. With the help of Brandon and Ella, a plan is hatched to get you back to Rockland and to safety. Or are you safe? Has you been followed or tracked? And if so why? Why were people after you to begin with? So many questions, no real answers. The only person who knows a little about the "before" Vikki is Brandon and that isn't all that much. So you take the pieces he provides little by little and hope some other pieces will fall into place. While Ella had issues with getting to know her family again and whether she was truly married or not if she couldn't remember her vows, you are wondering if you have done something wrong or illegal. The only way to find out? Visit the Rockland PD. Rockland PD tries to get info from the Apache Junction PD as very little is found and your record prior to the age of 18 has been sealed. While frustrating, that makes some sense to you since recently you found a journal that covers your childhood and teen years that point to fact that you most likely were in foster care. Again, more questions, no answers. But over several months this changes little by little as a mystery unfolds, you learn more about yourself from the PD, the arrest of a thug, and from bits and pieces from Brandon. Then you and Ella seem to hit a jackpot... "Will Not See" is a very different novel than its sister novel. It actually has a mystery behind it. It takes many people to put together all the pieces of one part of Vikki's past and one special person to help her see the characteristics he noticed and liked about her. Over time, Vikki learns more about why she had so few friends or anyone looking for her or why she felt she didn't belong in or have a connection to Arizona. She learns more about what she was feeling in regard to her faith, friendship and begins to understand what an open and honest and caring relationship really is. Chautona Havig has taken the time to develop a character that is the opposite of Ella Weeks in so many ways. Vikki is more a mix of "slang" and well spoken in her speech, conservative, yet can step out of her shell when she feels the need to, tends to shut down and become depressed as vs angry when she is overwhelmed. Yet, she is also pushy when she really wants or desires something. She is a true mix of different characteristics and thus a very different character than one initially presumes. With the mixed storylines of the past that is catching up to her that she has no remembrance of, finding out parts about her old self that she likes and dislikes, and moving forward and finding her way, the author has created a truly interesting and engaging novel from the beginning. Figuring it all out is up to the reader until near the end...and just as she and Ella have hit a potential connection, a new Bonn is dropped on them... Rating 4 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **I voluntarily read and reviewed this novel. Thoughts and comments are my own. I received a free paperback via Celebrate Lit **📌 Separate Giveaway 📌** If you watch the trailer and make a comment on the YouTube channel you will be entered in a separate contest!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tCnkQKibdYM&feature=youtu.be

While camping in Joshua Tree National Park, my dad was teaching me to ride my bike. I remember wobbling along and making progress. Then it happened! I fell and hit my head! Yes, this was before the days of bike helmets.
After crying in a lounge chair nursing my ache, I decided I wasn’t going to let the bike get the better of me. I announced that I was going to try again. Do you know what? I did…
