FASHION CREDITS: “YOÜ & I” MUSIC VIDEO
Back in July 2011, Lady Gaga filmed the music video for her country-inspired power ballad “Yoü & I" in Springfield, Nebraska. The video, directed by Gaga herself and her former choreographer Laurie-Ann Gibson, is about how torturing it is being away from someone you love and going through all kinds of changes to be and stay with them.
Nicola Formichetti did the styling for the video. The hair was done by Frederic Aspiras, makeup by Val Garland and manicure by Marian Newman.
Tumblr media
For the first look, LG dressed up as a robot-bride-hybrid. "I'm walking with no luggage and no nothing and it's just me and my ankles are bleeding a little bit and there's grass stuck in my shoes and I've got this outfit on and it's real sort of New York clothing and I'm sprinting.” Gaga said about this scene.
She’s wearing a black one-sleeved Saint Laurent blazer that she matched with Chanel Fall/Winter 2011 black tapered trousers.
The black giant insect eye looking honeycomb beauty is a piece from Philip Treacy‘s archive and her vintage France Look Rio 24 sunglasses were provided by Vintage Frames Company.
Marian Newman created all the nails for the video. About the first set: “She walked from NY to Nebraska and got damaged and needed help from robotics. The 2 nails are broken chic, fashion nails that have been repaired”. Nude pink with silver wire. The swivel nails were riveted.
Tumblr media
Now about her accessories. The bride’s prosthetics were crafted by Millennium FX.  Brian Coldrick worked on the sketches with the team at Millennium FX and the Haus of Gaga while Richard Martin painted them.
Tumblr media
Gaga added a vintage crystal Chanel brooch on top of her arm proshetic.
Tumblr media
Her shoes are the Pleaser Adore-1018 black leather platform ankle boots with peep-toe and lace-up back.
Tumblr media
The second scene took place in the middle of a cornfield. Gaga and her fairies are all wearing custom ivory Chalayan silk slip dresses with lace frill, spaghetti straps and chiffon trains.
Marian Newman used yellow Minx nail lacquer on Gaga.
Tumblr media
She also wears a pair of leather ballet shoes from the “Spotlights” collection of American Ballet Theatre.
Tumblr media
Gaga’s male alter ego Jo Calderone wears a white distressed Uniqlo T-shirt, a pair of Dior Fall/Winter 2011 menswear trousers with buckle satin belt and underneath, a pair of (stuffed) Hanes white cotton briefs.
Tumblr media
The look was finished with pair of Chanel Fall/Winter 2011 calfskin leather combat boots with cap toe and attached slouchy tweed socks.
Tumblr media
The further we go into the video, the crazier it gets. And this is definitely my absolute favourite look of ‘em all.
Our girl wore a custom cork mini dress feauturing frilled shoulders...
Tumblr media
...and rose-embellished heel-less ankle boots from Jan Taminiau’s otherworldy Fall/Winter 2011 Haute Couture “Nature Extends” collection. Working on verticality, Jan emphasizes vulnerability, by an extension of nature, with a different vision of the real world.
Her gold hair pin frames and skull cap are custom Haus of Gaga.
Tumblr media
“With her timber legs, she moves slowly through the wood. She is innerly strong, walking with her head up, proud of herself. Her skin is peeled, ruptured, scrubbed and full with scratches. Her gown is torn apart by the bushes of the wood. But every nail on her skin is set one by one. She survives and shows her inner self with grace.” Those were Jan Taminiau‘s words. And I can’t imagine another collection that would suit, both conceptually and visually, Gaga’s brand new video storyline better.
“These were wooden Minx’s I had made for me and I pinned them to go with the dress that was covered in gold pins“. Marian Newman said about the above pictured custom nails.
Tumblr media
Just like his previous outfit, Taminiau created both Gaga’s dress, jacket and heelless thigh-high boots exclusively.
Tumblr media
Next, our girl wears nothing but a pair of custom muted yellow suede platform pumps with ankle buckle wrap from Mugler’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection.
Tumblr media
The Millennium FX team created the tail along with the gills for Yüyi, Gaga’s mermaid alter ego. The tail body was sculpted by Richard Martin and Sharna Rothwell and made with silicone. Richard also did the tail spines and un unseen dorsal fin, gill and blender prosthetics. The team had 8 days to create and paint the props.
The tail fin was created by Charlie Bluett, an independant FX artist.
Yüyi’s nails are an alternative “breathing apparatus”. Above you can see them in acrylic in a pink opaque, but for the video Marian Newman made them of latex.
Tumblr media
For the photoshoot, she also wore vintage Chanel 01455 oversized shield sunglasses with chain embellishment.
Tumblr media
During the dancing scene both Gaga and the rest of her dancers wore custom full body harnesses hand-made by Zana Bayne.
Love the miracle of creation. In general. And what fascinates me is fashion creation in particular. Creation of garments, jewellery, shoes, accessories…the process of bringing the pieces that once were in someone’s head (and a posteriori, like in this case, probably on paper) to life...
The last Marian Newman nails are from the dancing scene: “These were “Inkwell” by CND with silver studs to go with the bondage suits“.
Tumblr media
Gaga teamed it with black underwear, fishnet stockings and Ellie Savannah corset boots.
Tumblr media
For the wedding scene Gaga’s borrowed her mum’s dress. A vintage draped jewel by Norma Kamali. And completed the look with the veil headpiece by Perry Meek.
I’ve been trying to get more information about this stunning hundreds of tiny pearls embellished beauty Norma’s created almost 40 years ago. Haven’t found a picture yet but I can tell you the dress belongs to Norma Kamali “White Pearl” collection from 1983!
Tumblr media
The groom, played by Taylor Kinney, wears a white lab coat-inspired ensemble with wide lapels and buckle details from Korean emerging designer and London College of Fashion graduate Jaeho Choi’s graduation collection, which is about minimalist arts. Check it out here.

Two Murders Too Many by Bluette Matthey
My Review (5*): I loved this mystery and read it in one afternoon, it’s gripping and highly entertaining. The descriptions of the small town and the quirky inhabitants reminded me of Fannie Flagg’s novel. They’re realistic and sweet at the same time. It’s a novel about secrets and people. There’s a mystery but there’s also a realistic description of the life in a small town after WWII. Charlie is a great character, clever and strong willed, he won’t start till he discover the truth. He will discover that there’s a lot of secrets and not everything is as lovely as it seems. The mystery is solid, full to twists and turns, and even if it wasn’t hard to discover the culprit, it kept me hooked till the end because there’s a lot more. There’s some violent parts but on a general level it’s an excellent mix of cozy elements and traditional mystery. I’d happy to read more stories featuring Charlie and Shannon people. I loved this one and it’s strongly recommended. Many thanks to Bluette Matthey and Partners in Crime for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Book Description:
Barn burning in a sleepy farming community is a serious enough matter, but a grisly murder or two in a small midwest town is a showstopper. Throw in a serial blackmailer who has his claws in some of the town’s leading citizens and you have one big recipe for disaster.
Charlie Simmons, newly sworn in as Shannon’s policeman, takes on the challenge of investigating this cauldron of crimes in stride, untangling one thread after another from the fabric of the town of Shannon to find the simple truth.

Read an excerpt:
Blanche Gruman sprawled on the park bench in front of the Presbyterian Church Monday enjoying the afternoon sun, her long, tanned legs stretched out on the sidewalk in front of the bench. She looked serene, with her face turned sunward, eyes protected by aviator sunglasses. Her blonde hair was almost white, bleached by the sun, and she wore it long and loose.
“Afternoon, Blanche,” Charlie said as he made his way toward town hall.
Blanche turned her head to see who had spoken. “Well, hey, Charlie!” she replied. She quickly sat up, pulling her bare legs primly under the edge of the bench. It was a lady-like move; just what you would expect from Blanche. A broad smile, showing perfect pearl-white teeth lit up her face.
Blanche Gruman owned and operated a successful hair salon in town. For Shannon, it was an exclusive salon. Blanche was an excellent cutter and stylist, and her flamboyant but tasteful sense of style attracted the cream of Shannon’s women to her salon, as well as some of the more prominent men. She had expanded her business over the course of a decade, hiring additional staff, but she was the queen bee, and closely guarded her select clientele.
Blanche had never married, though she’d had a fairly constant parade of suitors. Rumor had it that when someone had once asked her why she had never married she had flippantly replied, “Why marry one man when I can make so many happy?” Whether or not this was true, it was generally agreed that Blanche had a less traditional approach to relationships with men than her female contemporaries, and it was speculated that many of her female devotees who religiously came to Blanche for hair treatment did so as a means of keeping an eye on her latest paramour, primarily to make sure it wasn’t a wayfaring husband.
“You look mighty pleased with yourself,” Charlie said. He stood in front of her, blocking the sun from her eyes. She removed her sunglasses, hooking one of the templates on the V-neck of a snug knit top that accented her generous curves.
“It’s a great day to celebrate life,” she told him, “and that’s just what I’m doing.” Clearly, she was enjoying herself.
Charlie changed the subject. “You hear about what happened to Otto Hilty the other night?”
His question soured Blanche’s mood noticeably. Her voice took on a hard edge when she responded. “That SOB …” she began. “I don’t truck with what happened to Otto,” she said, “but I’ll not shed any tears for him.” She put her sunglasses on and stood, facing Charlie. “Like I said … it’s a great day to celebrate.” She walked off leaving Charlie standing, literally, with his mouth agape.

“”There’s no doubt about what killed him,” Doc Steiner, Shannon’s medical examiner and sole doctor, said after a quick look at the lifeless body of Otto Hilty where he lay, partially covered by straw bedding in the livery barn. He shone his flashlight on the dead man’s face. Involuntarily, Charlie recoiled in horror at the rusty bail hook that had been imbedded in Otto’s right eye, killing him with the brain trauma it inflicted. A cascading wash of drying blood under his destroyed eye colored an otherwise pallid visage.” Two Murders Too Many by Bluette Matthey Release date: 21 October, 2020 Amazon; B & N; Smashwords
