Corvus gave him a long, thoughtful look. Soren blew a strand of hair out of his face and would not meet Corvus’ eyes.
“It matters a lot… to Ezran.”
“To the King, yeah.”

something I've appreciated about The Dragon Prince is how it eschews a good/evil, hero/villain binary and instead insists that what matters are choices: the path one chooses to walk. are you fated to walk a dark path? or did you make a choice with every step?
characters say "i had no choice," a lot, but eventually face the truth (usually before a big moment of growth): there's always a choice, and you've always been making choices. this is something pretty much everyone is going thru throughout the series but no one more obviously than Viren (and now, Claudia 😭).
when Viren faces his younger self in the mirror in season 5 and young Viren rejects the idea that he is "fated" to walk a dark path, he places his hand on the glass, saying "i am free, and so are you!" this is one of the series' main theses--alongside whether history is "a narrative of strength or a narrative of love"--that "i have no choice," is never true. our choices are all we have, and they shape our reality by paving the path we take.
Viren has been a worthy and engaging "villain" throughout the series, totally hateable, a grade A baddie, but I'm grateful for how his arc ended in season 6. i admit i shed a tear for that old war criminal.
if history is to become a narrative of love then different choices must be made.
making space for anger and holding "villains" accountable for their harmful choices, but also allowing for those same villains to change (or cut out) their hearts and thereby change the path they have walked--even if it's only in the final few days of a lifetime of wickedness-- all play well alongside the setting of the story: a magical world on the precipice of revolutionary transformation ("a long slow spiral into chaos," as one Star Elf put it).
can't guess how this will play out with the big boss battle against Aaravos himself in the final season, but for now, I'm content w how the writers seem truly invested in exploring these big ideas and applying them to the characters' story arcs.

The other day I drew an idea for "what if branded could transform", but really I just wanted to design a dragon. In reality I think you could take the idea way further.
What if you were to take the idea of branded being half laguz way more literally?? Basically I think it would be cool to have more of a half transformation resulting in what are basically monsters from myth and legend. Of course, I continue to have an interest in a story where the branded are the main characters and the heroes so, making them look like monsters but actually be good guys is fun to me!
The first and most obvious version of this idea would be the half human/half wolf (werewolf). I don't think they would lose themselves like werewolves, but they are the most iconic animal human hybrid design!
The next most obvious design would be half human/half bird (harpies). I think its important to really push the animal aspect and not just make them sexy sexy mostly human things. I think it would be fun to explore the design differences between hawk harpies, raven harpies, and heron harpies.
The cats are the hardest ones to design imo because there aren't that many human/cat hybrid monsters in mythology that aren't also mixed with even more animals. Its probably fine to just follow the example of the wolves and do were-cats though. Still cool!
For dragons I actually think there are a couple different directions you could go in. For this idea I basically went with your standard high fantasy/DnD demons and devils. There's only one half dragon in Tellius but this is another case where it would be really fun to design different looks for red, white or black half dragons since the ones we see in canon have slightly different builds and horn designs plus the different skin colors. (I would go with different skin colors like tieflings. The whole idea is for them to look like monsters and I think dragons should be scary!!)
The other idea I had would be for half dragons to be oni? Basically the same design sensibility but you would lose the wings. My reason for this idea is because oni are cool dragons in Tellius are kind of seen as this terrifying force of nature that could destroy everyone if they wanted to, which is kind of what oni are as well. I think it could work nicely.

I can just see Opeli holding her Advanced Fiscal Exercises class and Soren showing up in tiny little gym shorts that show off his thunder thighs and a muscle tank because he thought it was Advanced Physical Exercises. The entire time, Opeli tries to ignore that, but Soren sits front row and keeps asking questions. She thinks it’s because he’s engaged with the lesson, but really he’s just confused and has no idea what the hell is going on. He doesn’t know what fiscal means, or what taxes have to do with exercise.

It seems that pretty much everyone is picking up the hints that Neuvillette = the hydro dragon so if that's the case....
Does he cry before every trial?? They said it rains before every trial because the dragon cries! I'm so shocked by this character honestly I thought he would be the high and mighty judge but instead he's a kind and awkward old man who maybe gets emotional about doing his job??
Good job Hoyo. Definitely another new fav.

Okay, so in season 4 episode 8, Janai starts talking about two of those twin-tailed inferno tooth tigers and the two she is talking about have the color palets of turquios and brown (Embertail), and gold and red (Aegis) (both seen in teaser images for season 7). And Janai says that "Embertail thinks Aegis is cute, but won't admit it yet" so in conclusion, not only will Sorvus be canon in season 7, but Corvus has thought Soren is cute for three seasons, but hasn't admitted it to himself yet.
