So my brother and I watched The Last Lullaby yesterday and I want to say something about elktaur.

One of the hardest things for me while watching this show was getting used to the zany designs of the characters. It was hard to go from my expectation with Horse and Rider to a place where no one had noses, bodies were just shapes on shapes, and physics were a suggestion when it came to personhood. I had adjusted so much that I barely even realized that elktaur looked so weird until my second watch of it.

Elktaur looks like a human, right from the get go. He wears clothing on his top half that resembles that of the human world, his face is very realistic, he wears his hair back, and his horse half is very accurate to an elk including the hooves.

This means that he either spent enough time in the human world that he had been changed by it, or that he felt ostracized and out of place so much because his body was different. I like to think that it was the former.

He was different and felt more at home in the human world than he did centaurworld, so his body changed to adapt to that feeling like Horse's did when she accepted that she was part of centaurworld. Think about it, her first spell is cast when she begins to accept the way that things work in centaurworld and then her body changes when she realizes that she's part of the herd. Elktaur wanted to be human so badly, even before he fell in love with Woman.

man. a dark goopy evil deer skull creature. killed millions. singehandedly began a war and continued to fight it until death. caused misery and suffering for countless victims and their kin. has a whole creepy lullaby written about him with lines such as "you will bring joy to the nowhere king when he sees the light leaving your eyes." and the first line a part of him speaks directly to anyone onscreen is "did you fart"

just watched centaurworld and you cannot tell me there wasn't conflict in the writer's room about horse x rider

(screenshots below including the finale so spoilers)

so in S2E4 Horse says this refering to Becky Apples

and then later that very same episode she says this to wamawink comparing the situation between her and jeffica to horse and becky apple's situation

what are these mixed messages I'm being given

then in the series finale the nowhere king compares himself to horse

in regards to the situation between them and their "humans"

the situation between the nowhere king and his "human" being very much romantic

and then there's how sensual they made all of these scenes

and there's many times where it looks like they almost kiss

and the whole U-Haul lesbian thing in regards to this

but then there's all this

so in conclusion I think there was conflict in the writer's room about this so there's multiple things pointing both ways and to be clear I don't condone this ship I just wanted to publish my thoughts on what happened to make this how it is, and if you're trying to think of a reason why this could have happened in canon then perhaps the centaurworld's anthropomorphism of Horse it turned horse's bond to rider into a romantic one because the bond between a horse and their rider isn't really something that exists between two anthropomorphic beings
