Peachtober day 8: "River."
Overreached a bit here, the reference I was working to was very fiddly and I don't think I caught it very well but I lost the will to live and I'm calling it done.

Was it Caws Cenarth cheese? WAS IT CAWS CENARTH CHEESE?!?
I am trying to be extra Not Patriotic today out of disrespect to the Queen so right now I am attempting an American grilled cheese sandwich instead of a British toastie

A relatively brief walk past Piccadilly Circus and through chinatown
(hate those orange wall things that were there at the time of visiting) takes me to seven dials market. This food hall has a number of offerings, but I’m here specifically for pick and cheese- a conveyor belt cheese restaurant!
As someone who’s interested in learning more about + trying new cheeses, but not wanting to spend a ton of money on cheeses that I may or may not like I love this concept!
You get an hour to eat as many plates as you want.
They also give you a menu that explains the plates and that you can take notes on.
It is, obviously a lot of cheese, so come prepared for that.
The cheeses are all paired with a small side bite, like a bit of jam, relish, or a sweet. You also get a little thing of crackers.
I’m not sure if I chose poorly or if the cheeses here just tended to be a little to smokey for my taste, but sadly I did not find a new favorite cheese from the experience.
But I DID accomplish my goal of trying a lot of new cheeses for a price that was way less than it would have been trying all of them at my local grocery store!
I do kinda wish there had been a cheese for beginners key to help explain some of the different kinds a bit more. It was also a bit hard to see the numbers on the little tags till they got close: which is a bit of a challenge when you’re trying to read descriptions as the plates approach. I think normally the color of the plate makes a difference to the price. However on the day I visited they were all priced the same (I think I came on the day the cheeses had all been freshly cut?). They don’t charge you for leftover cheese which is very good because some of these I could not have finished.
cheese notes
Smoked Gubbeen - liked this one
Giana Ferguson, West Cork, Ire.
Irish washed rind cheese, hand smoke over oak for a subtle and delicate smokiness.
Paired with: Yorkshire Rhubarb & Ginger Jam
Cornish Gouda (P, C - contains Egg) - liked this one the best of the ones I tried, although the fudge was more memorable than the cheese in all honesty.
Giel Spiering, Cornwall
hard gouda-style with salted caramel and hazlenut flavors
Clotted Cream Fudge
Gorwydd Caerphilly (UP, C) - HATED this one.
Todd & Maugan Trethowan, Somerset
Much acclaimed territorial chess with a crumble centre mushroomy breakdown and delicious rind
Paired with: Piccalilli
Cenarth Brie (P, C, VR) - liked this one okay
The Adams Family, Carmarthenshire
Wales’ answer to Brie- a soft velvety & gooey cheese with unctuous mushroomy flavor
Paired with: Tomato & Chilli Jam
Wigmore (T, S, VR) - one of those that was okay on first bite, but was too meh to finish it all
Anne Wigmore, Berkshire
Floral and delicate brie-style cheese made with a sheep’s milk. Named after and made by legendary cheesemaker Anne Wigmore
Paired with: Pear & Cider Brandy Jam
Durrus (P, C) GF - liked this one okay
Sarah Hennessy, West Cork, Ire.
Semi-soft as he rind cheese with a squish able texture rich creamy paste and gentle flavors
Paired with: Candied Peanuts
Cornish Kern - Liked this one 2nd best of the ones I tried. The cookie was very good though.
Catherine Meade, Cornwall
Firm toothsome texture with a brown butter and roasted hazelnut finish. Reminiscent of the Alpine classics.

Cenarth Falls
This is the first large scale painting I have completed! I tried to match the colours from a photograph I had taken, and used a small brush towards the end for the smaller details.
I love the deep blue of the water which has a nice contrast to the lighter grey of the rocks.

4 of my favourite photos I took in April 2022 and my birds of the month
Speckled Wood in the garden, Hampshire
Cuckooflower at RSPB Radipole Lake, Dorest
View at Cenarth
Puffin on Skomer Island, Pembrokeshire
April has been another month like no other or me. My month was certainly defined by the continued development of spring a hopeful and joyful time of year I love noticing sights and signs of this every day, a packed Easter weekend and of course our phenomenal week in Pembrokeshire to end it having some of our most incredible wildlife experiences so far this year and ever and taking in some amazing landscapes. So much of the month especially around Easter and Pembrokeshire we had such stunning and brilliant weather. I have been pleased with the very high amount and variety of pictures I have taken this month.
It has been such an amazing birdwatching month for me, helped by big injections of year ticks during the Pembrokeshire holiday and Easter weekends I saw a huge amount of birds for this first time this year in April and amazingly my bird year list is strides ahead of how many I had seen at this time of year in previous years really breaking away from the amount I had seen at this stage during my two highest year lists in total 2019 and 2018. From Great Crested Grebes and Mallard ducklings at our local Lakeside, Cetti’s Warblers at Radipole at Easter and of course seeing birds such as Razorbill and Fulmar on Skomer and other parts of Pembrokeshire we have had some fantastic and very precious intimate moments with birds this month.
It’s been a fantastic butterfly month for me too with so many of the key spring species seen, from Dingy Skipper to Speckled Wood in the garden there have been some top moments seeing butterflies with some special species and my butterfly year has developed so well this month. Other insects and spiders have really played their part this month too, and it’s been a special month of mammals especially in the high points of the month in Pembrokeshire and over Easter. It’s been such a brilliant month of flowers too with the amazing contrast of the species that come out as we go into spring in Hampshire and at home being around and the really pleasantly surprising thing in Pembrokeshire for me of the flowers that I associate with late spring into summer being around which felt so good.
Now onto my bird of the month, a tough choice again especially after Pembrokeshire. I have gone for two again this month and once again they are two of my favourite birds, the Puffin and Osprey. The Puffin is the bird of the month for me that I saw consistently over those three days in and around Skomer Island as the figurehead bird of this trip and what we mostly first ever did it for, getting such intimate, varied and exciting views of this charming bird I adore. The Osprey shares my bird of the month title as the big single birding moment of my month, the exhilarating moment the one flew over us on Skomer on Tuesday which as I have said has been much talked about and was one of my favourite ever bird moments with a species I have a strong connection with and love so much. Chough has to lead a list of honourable mentions in my considerations for my birds of the month as we seen them exceptionally well and loads of times a key highlight of the amazing holiday. Other notable mentions for this month include Whitethroat and Sedge Warbler in a strong month of warblers for me, Wheatear, Dipper, Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake, Fulmar and Manx Shearwater. Thanks for all your interactions this month and I hope you all have a great May.

Clarence House tweeted out a recipe for Cheesy Baked Eggs. Looks really good, The recipe calls for a "strong soft cheese" like Tunworth or Golden Cenarth which I've never even heard of before. I love cheese and I feel like I'm missing out. I imagine they'd be like Brie? Hopefully they will be easy to find in the US. I definitely wanna try this recipe!
OMG!

I hope no one is offended by this, but I love the pandemic’s effect on the royal content. Yes, I miss the events, but I love the recipes, gardening tips, decor pics and, most of all, the fact that Amner Hall seems to be a culottes-free zone.
