Audio
Hailing from Dublin and fronted by vocalist and guitarist Keeley, the band includes Marty Canavan on keyboards, Martin Fagan on bass and Pete Duff on drums.
This four-track collection was produced and engineered by Alan Maguire, who mixed it together with Keeley, and mastered by Anthony Chapman (Franz Ferdinand, DEVO, Cathal Coughlan, Jesus Jones, Wolfhounds).
Lead track 'The Glitter and the Glue' is a blistering buffet of psychedelic rock, post-punk and the fuzzier, more frantic end of the dreampop spectrum. The shortest, fastest and most ecstatic explosion of energy released by Keeley to date, this is a hook-laden, melodic monster of a song with very unusual lyrical content. It is already receiving Irish airplay from Newstalk FM, Radio Nova, 98FM and has now been added to the playlists of Dublin City FM, KCLR 96FM and 8Radio.
The 'Brave Warrior' EP demonstrates the multi-faceted songwriting smarts of one of Ireland’s most talked-about emerging bands, ranging from this upbeat lead track to more spacey, darkly-dreamy electronic offerings, drenched in drama and soaked in sadness. Keeley pursues an unusual conceptual thread, conceived several years ago, focusing on German tourist Inga Maria Hauser, whose murder in Northern Ireland in 1988 remains unsolved.
Tumblr media
For the past five years, the band's frontwoman and songwriter Keeley has been publishing a blog with a devoted global following - 'The Keeley Chronicles' - documenting the many facets of this unique, harrowing and mystifying case, correcting the falsely published details of Inga’s life and piecing together what really happened in the final days on her trip. By working in close quarters with Northern Irish police, senior politicians and Inga’s legal representatives in Northern Ireland in concerted efforts to advance and resolve this notorious case, she is keeping the memory of this beautiful and mysterious soul alive.
"Inga is the subject of everything I write. From the moment I first read about her exactly five years ago now, her cause became a burning obsession for me. Since that day I haven’t written a song about anyone or anything else...  I consider myself a concept artist and my purpose is to give Inga a voice," says Keeley.
In October 2020, Keeley released the debut single 'Last Words’, topping Newstalk FM’s airplay chart, getting playlisted by RTE Radio 1 and 8Radio, and attracting support from radio in multiple countries. Picked by legendary broadcaster Tom Dunne as one of his ‘Top Tracks of 2020’, it was listed at #12 in Radio Nova's ’Top 15 Irish Songs of 2020’ and, upon its release, she became the subject of full-page articles in the Belfast Telegraph and Derry Post newspapers, a frankly unheard-of feat for an indie artist on their debut single.

Dimple Discs is a new Peckham label with deep Irish music connections, founded in 2018 by Damian O'Neill of The Undertones and Brian O'Neill, initially as a vehicle for Damian's solo projects. It has now grown to encompass such artists as The Undertones, Cathal Coughlan, Kev Hopper, Eileen Gogan, Dragon Welding, Nick Haeffner and Baby Shakes with forthcoming archive material from Microdisney and Fatima Mansions.

Eurovision 1979 my top 19
Tumblr media
Hello, or shalom?, and welcome to another top in this series about the ESC, and we go now to March 31, 1979 where the 24th edition was held in Jerusalem, Israel, after their win in Paris last year. 19 countries took part, Turkey withdrew because they had so much pressure because they were going to participate in Israel, even they selected a song, which wasn’t very remarkable but anyway. The contest was won by Israel in home soil, with Gali Atari & Milk and Honey with the song Hallelujah, making this the 4th time a country wins in home soil. And now let’s review the songs.
1st Place: SPAIN/Betty Missiego-Su canción (Real Placing: 2nd-116 points)
Before Amaia & Alfred’s Tu canción, existed Su canción. I must admit that at first i found this song very dull, but then I fell in love with it, the lyrics are beautiful and maybe the kids are a bit annoying but they add a cute vibe to the song, this one makes me feel so happy and I’m in love with Betty’s voice, also, they snatched their 3rd victory with their 10 points to Israel.
2nd Place: FRANCE/Anne-Marie David-Je suis l’enfant soleil (Real Placing: 3rd-106 points)
Oh Queen Anne-Marie is back with her crazy faces, this entry makes me sad because of the lyrics, they are so good, also her voice is, as always, amazing, I’m in love with this lady, the ending part is heartbreaking and OMG I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG. Also remember, she’s watching you
Tumblr media
3rd Place: GERMANY/Dschinghis Khan-Dschinghis Khan (Real Placing: 4th-86 points)
I’m in love with this one, this is so funny, the performance is amazing and the music is so crazy but I like it, one of Germany’s best songs in the contest and this is so memorable and catchy that I sing it randomly sometimes. Also, I love their costumes, so good.
4th Place: DENMARK/Tommy Seebach-Disco Tango (Real Placing: 6th-76 points)
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ONE!!!!! The music is superb, his voice is amazing and the backing singers (hey Debbie, I’ll se you in 1981) are wonderful, my wig flies every time I listen to this one, the mix between disco and tango is beautiful.
5th Place: PORTUGAL/Manuela Bravo-Sobe, sobe, balão sobe (Real Placing: 9th-64 points)
This song is very good, the music is wonderful and she has a cute and sweet but powerful voice, a wonderful Portuguese song and again, so underrated, this is a song that’s perfect for 1979.
6th Place: BELGIUM/Micha Marah-Hey Nana (Real Placing: =18th-5 points/last)
Again, along with the Austrian song, this didn’t deserve to come last, this is catchy, her performance is cheeky and overall this is one of my favorite last placed entries, also she didn’t like the song and she never recorded it, which is a shame because I love this one.
7th Place: GREECE/Elpida-Sokrati (Real Placing: 8th-69 points)
This is amazing!!! I love Elpida’s voice because it’s powerful and great, the song is so wonderful, has power and it’s a memorable song, one of Greece’s best songs in their first years.
8th Place: FINLAND/Katri Helena-Katson sineen taivaan (Real Placing: 14th-38 points)
Aww such a powerful song, also her voice is amazing and the music is brilliant here, her performance is so good and after the second chorus everything turns out to be perfect. I like this Finnish song.
9th Place: SWEDEN/Ted Gärdestad-Satellit (Real Placing: 17th-8 points)
This is such a catchy song and the music is very good, I love his shirt/sweater and his voice is cute, but he looks frightened on stage. Anyway this is such a nice and warm song.
10th Place: ISRAEL/Gali Atari & Milk and Honey-Hallelujah (Real Placing: 1st-125 points)
This is such a sweet song but I don’t think this is a winner, they are amazing singers and the music is very nice, also as far as I read the translation, the lyrics are cute as well, good entry but not my winner that year.
11th Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Xandra-Colorado (Real Placing: 12th-51 points)
This one is so good, again Sandra Reemer’s voice is wonderful and the music is like a prophecy of the 80′s music, such a nice entry from her (as always) and i like this one.
12th Place: NORWAY/Anita Skorgan-Oliver (Real Placing: 11th-57 points)
Ah this lady again, and with her best entry IMO, this is cool, has great music, her voice is very good and I find this entry cute and entertaining, certainly this has a lot of charm and the chorus is very catchy.
13th Place: SWITZERLAND/Peter, Sue, Marc, Pfuri, Gorps and Kniri-Trödler und Co. (Real Placing: 10th-60 points)
Quite a random song, but it’s funny because of the various props they use on stage, also, again, their voices are good, their entries always have charm and, well, I’m happy they didn’t had a clown with them. A nice little happy song.
14th Place: IRELAND/Cathal Dunne-Happy Man (Real Placing: 5th-80 points)
Why this finished 5th? The music is quite good but quite weird at the same time, his voice is good but my problem here is the song itself, quite mediocre and forgettable at some point.
15th Place: LUXEMBOURG/Jeane Manson-J’ai dejà vu ça dans tes yeux (Real Placing: 13th-44 points)
The verses are so good and the chorus is lovely, but there’s a key change that irritates me so much on this one, also she’s so beautiful and her voice is good, overall an average ballad and entry.
16th Place: AUSTRIA/Christina Simon-Heute in Jerusalem (Real Placing: =18th-5 points/last)
This isn’t that bad, but it’s very boring, her voice is good but the song isn’t memorable and the music might turn boring after the first chorus strikes.
17th Place: ITALY/Matia Bazar-Raggio di luna (Real Placing: 15th-27 points)
Again oh no... one of the worst voices ever in the contest, maybe they were nervous. Also the song is quite mediocre, the music isn’t very good and I find the song quite annoying at some point.
18th Place: MONACO/Laurent Vaguener-Notre vie c’est la musique (Real Placing: 16th-12 points)
Oh no... not this one, I hate this song, his voice is so bad and the music makes me feel anxious, this is the worst song Monaco sent to the contest.
19th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Black Lace-Mary Ann (Real Placing: 7th-73 points)
This is horrendous, the music is very boring, his voice isn’t my cup of tea and the other’s voices are horrible, I can’t understand how this finished so high, IMO one of the UK’s worst songs ever.

Cancers, Vol. 11, Pages 66: Targeting Proteotoxic Stress in Cancer: A Review of the Role that Protein Quality Control Pathways Play in Oncogenesis
Cancers doi: 10.3390/cancers11010066
Authors: Matthew Ho Zhi Guang Emma L. Kavanagh Luke Paul Dunne Paul Dowling Li Zhang Sinéad Lindsay Despina Bazou Chia Yin Goh Cathal Hanley Giada Bianchi Kenneth C. Anderson Peter O’Gorman Amanda McCann
Despite significant advances in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics the majority of cancer unfortunately remains incurable, which has led to continued research to better understand its exceptionally diverse biology. As a result of genomic instability, cancer cells typically have elevated proteotoxic stress. Recent appreciation of this functional link between the two secondary hallmarks of cancer: aneuploidy (oxidative stress) and proteotoxic stress, has therefore led to the development of new anticancer therapies targeting this emerging “Achilles heel” of malignancy. This review highlights the importance of managing proteotoxic stress for cancer cell survival and provides an overview of the integral role proteostasis pathways play in the maintenance of protein homeostasis. We further review the efforts undertaken to exploit proteotoxic stress in multiple myeloma (as an example of a hematologic malignancy) and triple negative breast cancer (as an example of a solid tumor), and give examples of: (1) FDA-approved therapies in routine clinical use; and (2) promising therapies currently in clinical trials. Finally, we provide new insights gleaned from the use of emerging technologies to disrupt the protein secretory pathway and repurpose E3 ligases to achieve targeted protein degradation.

Amazon’s Lore Season 1, Episode 3: “Black Stockings” Directed by Thomas J. Wright Written by David Chiu & Patrick Wall
* For a recap & review of the previous episode, “Echoes” – click here * For a recap & review of the next episode, “Passing Notes” – click here June 2009, Ithaca, NY. A couple were running on a wooded path. Suddenly, the husband started believing his wife wasn’t her anymore, that she was an “impostor” who was trying to “destroy him.” He had Capgras Syndrome. He cut his wife’s throat, killing her. Hearing Aaron Mahnke narrate is one thing, hearing the killer himself and seeing his picture is another thing altogether. 100 years before, that wasn’t so crazy, to think somebody could take another’s place. This takes us back to Ireland for another episode of Lore. In 19th century Ireland, “magic and superstition” were often the cause. Specifically, the changelings. We go to 1895, Ballyvadlea, a village in Ireland. Bridget Cleary (Holland Roden) was what you’d call a “modern woman.” She lived with her husband Michael (Cathal Pendred) who worked for the local creamery. She sewed, tailoring clothes that helped she and her husband do better than most in their area. Of course, back then, a woman like Bridget drew rumours. That she was stepping out with another man. Her own husband listened to them, too. But that was no bother, she was her own woman. Michael worries about the changelings, that she’s temping them by going to a place linked with her mother, that they could take her away. Not only that, he’s quite possessive, as men so often get. Also, that’s part of the Irish cultural tradition: a man owned his wife.
However, the changelings are powerful, they can take who they want. Mahnke fills us in about them. Changelings take abducted humans to places where there exists “fairy rings,” or portals, linking the human world to another realm. They can take on the appearance of their target, sending the real person to that realm. All sorts of symptoms could give way to belief that changelings had taken you off. In addition, methods to try figuring out if such was the case. Like holding people over fire, forcing someone to drink foxglove, and other nastiness. And sure as shit, this led to autism, many illnesses mental or otherwise, all becoming reasons to believe the changelings were at work. There’s only 9 days from possession until a person is lost forever to the other realm. Bridget shows up back home to her Michael and her father, Patrick Boland (John Byner), looking sick, falling over. She doesn’t seem to even recognise her husband. When Michael does a quick test with an iron cup, he fears the worst: they’ve got her. So Doc Crean (Darren Darnborough) comes, and other people in the village find out, wondering if a changeling had taken hold of Bridget. Although the doc says “bronchitis and nervous excitement,” others aren’t so sure. Things don’t go too well. Father Ryan (Mark Ashworth) drops by to offer what comfort religion can in times like these. When he does, Michael asks him to bless a bit of medicine from a fairy doctor. The priest tells him to forget the “Old Irishery” and its folklore; all the while peddling Jesus Christ, sort of ironic. Regardless, the husband believes what he believes. You can see where this is headed. It also involves the threat of sensual, powerful, strong women. Mahnke talks about Julia Margaret Cameron, a British photographer who took incredible pictures of women; rare for a woman in 1863. We also see, Dr. Hugh Welch Diamond, he took pictures of women, as well. In asylums. Where women could be committed by their husbands, their fathers, the patriarchy who wanted to shut women up. “Moral insanity” a.k.a infidelity was one cause for being committed. Amongst many misogynist reasons. Diamond took pictures believing women seeing themselves in the photographs would have a positive effect. Or maybe it’d only mirror their anxieties.
Lots more superstition surrounding Bridget, driving Michael further into the belief his wife’s been stolen by the changelings. Jack Dunne (Richie Stephens) and the others do nothing to deter that belief. Meanwhile, Bridget’s terrified they’re turning her into a fairy herself. As it is with misogyny, we learn of the man’s prior abusive tendencies, like nearly burning her face with a poker from the fire once. Her husband is sure this is the eighth day, one more to go. What will he do? Oh, you know. “There are no such things as fairies. And if Ireland is ever going to become a part of the world, they need to go away.” The men plan to force feed Bridget a cure. They hold her down, even dear ole dad, and Michael asks the changeling to let his wife free. All gripped by folktales and cultural misogyny. When it won’t work, they decide on using a remedy meant to be used on the verge of day nine. So Bridget pleads with her husband, playing to his superstitious mind, saying anything she can to try thwarting him and the patriarchal plans of the village men. Anything to save herself. Ultimately, day nine came, and Michael had untied her. Father Ryan came around for a bit of mass. They tried relying on faith. Except the husband wasn’t strong enough to have a strong woman such as Bridget as a wife (unlike Annie Oakley, whose husband Frank was beyond loyal to her and proud, too). He couldn’t handle her free spirit. It wasn’t long until he reverted to the superstitions. He beat her, slamming her around the house. Then he lit her on fire in front of everybody, burning her while she was still alive. The Fairy Trial put Michael in the international eye, giving way to ugly Irish stereotypes. “Are you a witch? Or are you a fairy? Or are you the wife of Michael Cleary?” Another fantastic slice of Lore! God, they do such justice to Mahnke’s podcast and accentuate the strongest elements of his narration, adding in the scenes, plus those bits of montage from pictures to animations and everything else. One of my favourite new shows. “Passing Notes” is next.

Ireland 1979
'Happy Man' performed by Cathal Dunne. Composer: Cathal Dunne. Lyrics: Cathal Dunne.
The big question is, "why is Cathal Dunne a Happy Man?" I think I know the answer.
Meet the only Irishman to beat Johnny Logan in the Irish National Finals.
That victory of course sent Logan and his team back to the drawing boards to come back with 'What's Another Year', which ensured that nobody else would be a happy man, but Dunne was already on his way to emigrate away from the horror he had unwittingly unleashed.
As for 'Happy Man' the song, imagine sing  "I'm a man, a happy man" and every variation of those words for three minutes.
That's how you beat Mr Eurovision.
Points: 80. Placing: 5th.
