i know i can't really self-diagnose this but i looked up some complications of cataract surgery and the only thing i found that sounds like it could have happened to me is a "wipe out", which is a sudden drop of visual acuity (which i experienced, my vision was pretty much halved). it's only known to happen in people with glaucoma (which i also have). but it's also really fucking rare with like 3 in a million people experiencing this so who the fuck knows. all i know is i had IOLs put in and lost basically half my vision. gotta actually finally speak to a doctor about this when i see one next time.

Cataract surgery in Pitampura
Cataract Surgery In Pitampura, Delhi
Micro Phaco with Micro Incision Foldable Lens (MICS)
Cataract is the clouding of the lens of your eye that impairs vision. Cataract is responsible for more than half of blindness in the world, which is a grim fact because it is a treatable condition. In cataract there is a buildup of protein in the lens that makes it cloudy. This prevents light from passing clearly through the lens, thereby causing loss of vision.
Advancing age is a primary reason for cataract. With age, protein of the lens turns opaque. Other causes of cataract are metabolic disorders such as diabetes, excessive exposure to sunlight, lifestyle disorders like heavy alcohol consumption and smoking. Injury to the eye can also lead to clouding of the lens of the eye.
Treatment of Cataract When cataract forms, surgery is the only way to treat it. In cataract surgery, the surgeon removes the clouded lens and puts an Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) in your eye. Your vision will be as good as pre-cataract days, though you may need to wear glasses. Over the years, cataract surgeryhas moved from vision restorative to refractive surgery, so that you have reduced need of glasses.
Type of Intra Ocular Lenses (IOL) for Cataract Surgery
Foldable IOL Micro Phaco Surgery
Aspheric Foldable IOL Micro Phaco Surgery
Toric Foldable IOL Micro Phaco Surgery
Multi-Focal Foldable IOL Micro Phaco Surgery
Phacoemulsification with Foldable IOL's
At Bajaj Eye Care Centre we use STELLARIS TM Micro Surgical System which is the world’s most advanced technology of Cataract Surgery by Bausch and Lomb approved by FDA.
Through microphaco technology a very small incision of around 1.8mm is required to remove cataract from the eye. Through this ultra small incision, a very high frequency MICS Phaco tip is introduced inside the eye, breaking the hardest of cataracts into very small fragments which are sucked out through the same tip. Irrigation is provided through a separate side port. This arrangement provides the advantage of speedy recovery, faster healing and lesser surgery induced astigmatism. The surgery involves insertion of foldable Intra-Ocular lens which can be inserted through the 1.8mm incision.
Bajaj Eye Care Centre is also equipped with Pulsar Minimal Stress Phaco Emulsification with advanced Posterior Vitrectome System from OPTIKON(Italy)
We are handling a variety of Cataract cases and have given complete satisfaction to thousands of patients who have chosen Bajaj Eye Care Centre for cataract surgery.

A Comprehensive Guide to Cataract Eye Surgery
Cataracts are a common eye condition that affects millions of people worldwide, especially as they age. They occur when the lens of the eye becomes clouded, leading to blurred vision and, if untreated, potentially causing blindness. Cataract eye surgery is one of the most effective ways to restore clear vision, and ASG Eye Hospital is a leader in providing advanced eye cataract treatment.
What is Cataract Eye Surgery?
Cataract eye surgery is a medical procedure designed to remove the clouded lens from the eye and replace it with an artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens (IOL). This surgery is highly successful and one of the most performed procedures worldwide. Cataract eye surgery is typically recommended when cataracts begin to interfere with daily activities, such as reading, driving, or watching television.
Why is Cataract Surgery Necessary?
Cataracts can develop gradually and may not be noticeable at first. However, as they worsen, they can lead to significant vision impairment. If left untreated, cataracts can eventually result in complete vision loss. Cataract eye surgery offers a safe, reliable solution to restore clear vision and improve quality of life. In fact, the procedure is often life-changing, allowing patients to regain their independence and enjoy activities that were once difficult due to poor vision.
The Cataract Surgery Procedure at ASG Eye Hospital
At ASG Eye Hospital, cataract eye surgery is performed using the latest technology and techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes. The procedure is typically done under local anesthesia, meaning patients are awake but do not feel any pain during the surgery. The surgeon makes a small incision in the eye to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a customized intraocular lens.
One of the most common and advanced methods used at ASG Eye Hospital is phacoemulsification. This technique uses ultrasound waves to break up the cataract, making it easier to remove with minimal incision. This allows for faster recovery times and reduces the risk of complications.
What to Expect During Recovery
The recovery from cataract eye surgery is typically quick and relatively painless. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days, although it’s important to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks to ensure proper healing. Follow-up appointments with the eye specialist will be scheduled to monitor progress and ensure that the new lens is properly positioned.
At ASG Eye Hospital, our dedicated team of eye cataract treatment specialists will guide you through the entire process, from pre-surgery consultations to post-surgery care. We are committed to providing exceptional care and ensuring a smooth recovery.
Why Choose ASG Eye Hospital for Your Cataract Treatment?
ASG Eye Hospital stands out as one of the best places for cataract eye surgery in India. With state-of-the-art facilities, experienced surgeons, and a commitment to patient care, we offer the highest standards of treatment. Our team of experts provides personalized care, ensuring that each patient receives the best possible outcome from their cataract surgery.
If you or a loved one is experiencing vision problems due to cataracts, don’t wait—schedule a consultation at ASG Eye Hospital to explore your treatment options.

Vision Correction Services in Delhi
Vision Correction Services in Delhi: A Comprehensive Guide
Why Choose Vision Correction?
Astigmatism, presbyopia, nearsightedness, and farsightedness are among the many visual abnormalities that many people suffer from. While vision correction services in Delhi like glasses and contact lenses give short-term fixes, vision correction surgery provides a longer-term answer. These services can greatly lessen or completely eliminate reliance on eyewear by enhancing corneal shape or implantation of corrective lenses.
Delhi is a convenient and trustworthy location for vision correction procedures because it has several respectable eye care facilities and highly qualified surgeons. Some of the most well-liked services in the city are covered in the section below on vision correction services in Delhi.
Popular Vision Correction Services in Delhi
LASIK Surgery (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)
Overview: LASIK is one of the most common and effective forms of vision correction. It involves reshaping the cornea to correct refractive errors.
Procedure: A specialized laser removes a thin layer of corneal tissue, reshaping it to correct issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
Benefits: Quick recovery, minimal discomfort, and lasting results. Most people experience immediate improvement in vision.
Ideal Candidates: Adults with stable vision prescription, healthy corneas, and no severe eye issues.
Clinics in Delhi: Delhi has numerous centers, such as Eye7 Chaudhary Eye Centre and Centre for Sight, specializing in LASIK with advanced tech and experienced surgeons.
SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)
Overview: SMILE is a minimally invasive laser procedure, ideal for people with myopia (nearsightedness) and mild astigmatism.
Procedure: A femtosecond laser creates a small lens-shaped tissue (lenticule) within the cornea, which is then removed through a tiny incision, reshaping the cornea.
Benefits: SMILE has minimal risk of dry eyes and is less invasive than LASIK.
Ideal Candidates: Those with myopia and astigmatism, who prefer a less invasive solution.
Clinics in Delhi: Notable clinics include Shroff Eye Centre and Bharti Eye Hospital, offering SMILE with state-of-the-art equipment.
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
Overview: PRK is a vision correction procedure similar to LASIK but doesn’t require creating a corneal flap.
Procedure: The outer layer of the cornea is removed, allowing the laser to reshape the underlying cornea directly. The outer layer regenerates within a few days.
Benefits: Suitable for people with thin corneas and provides similar outcomes to LASIK.
Ideal Candidates: Those with thin or irregular corneas who may not be candidates for LASIK.
Clinics in Delhi: Leading clinics like Max Eye Care and Centre for Sight offer PRK.
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)
Overview: ICL is an advanced procedure for those unsuitable for laser-based surgeries. A special lens is implanted in the eye to correct vision.
Procedure: A small incision is made to insert the ICL behind the iris but in front of the natural lens.
Benefits: Reversible, excellent for high prescriptions or thin corneas.
Ideal Candidates: People with high refractive errors, thin corneas, or dry eyes.
Clinics in Delhi: Hospitals like Apollo Spectra and Medanta offer ICL surgery with experienced ophthalmologists.
Cataract Surgery with Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
Overview: For those over 40 experiencing presbyopia or early cataracts, RLE can be a great choice. It replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial one.
Procedure: The natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) to correct vision.
Benefits: Effective for presbyopia and early cataracts.
Ideal Candidates: Older adults with presbyopia or cataract symptoms.
Clinics in Delhi: Options like Eye-Q Super Specialty Eye Hospitals provide high-quality RLE.

The Evolving Intraocular Lens Market: Trends, Drivers, and Growth Opportunities
Introduction: The global intraocular lens (IOL) market is poised for significant growth, spurred by factors such as the aging population and advances in cataract surgery technologies. Estimated to grow from USD 4.2 billion in 2023 to USD 6.0 billion by 2029, this market is shaped by innovations from industry leaders like Alcon, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, and Carl Zeiss Meditec. This blog provides a comprehensive overview of key trends, market drivers, and growth opportunities that make the IOL market a focal point for healthcare advancements.
Download PDF Brochure
1. Market Dynamics in the Intraocular Lens Market:
Rising Demand for Cataract Surgery IOLs: Cataracts affect millions globally, especially in older adults. Monofocal IOLs, which currently hold the largest share in the IOL market, are widely used for cataract surgeries due to their cost-effectiveness and performance in restoring basic vision. The demand for monofocal and premium IOLs, including multifocal and extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses, continues to grow as patients seek solutions that improve near and distant vision simultaneously.
Technological Advances in IOL Design: Innovations in hydrophobic and hydrophilic IOLs, as well as extended-wear options, enhance patient outcomes. Hydrophobic acrylic IOLs, in particular, dominate due to their durability, water resistance, and reduced risk of post-surgical complications. These features make them a preferred choice, contributing to the lens’s popularity in high-volume procedures such as cataract surgery.
2. Market Drivers Fueling Growth:
Aging Population as a Catalyst: The growing elderly demographic is a significant driver in the eye care market. Aging increases the prevalence of cataracts and presbyopia, leading to a higher demand for both cataract surgery IOLs and presbyopia-correcting lenses. With a notable proportion of the population aged over 65 in North America and Europe, the demand for advanced IOL technologies is expected to surge.
Increase in Cataract Procedures: As a leading cause of vision impairment, cataracts account for a large volume of global surgeries. In regions with high healthcare access, such as North America, the availability of insurance coverage further supports the uptake of IOLs. With the growing adoption of minimally invasive cataract procedures worldwide, particularly in emerging economies, the market for cataract lens implants is expanding.
3. Opportunities in Emerging Markets:
Expansion into Emerging Economies: Markets in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa offer high-growth potential for IOLs. Rising disposable incomes and greater healthcare awareness are fueling demand for vision correction and cataract surgeries. Companies are increasingly investing in these regions, seeking to tap into new consumer bases with unmet needs in eye care.
Innovations in Lens Implants: Technological advancements present opportunities for biosimilar IOL development, AI-driven diagnostics, and teleophthalmology, which allow remote diagnosis and monitoring. These innovations are especially beneficial in emerging markets, where access to ophthalmologists and specialized eye care centers remains limited.
4. Key IOL Segments:
Monofocal IOLs: Cost-effective and widely used, monofocal IOLs capture a major portion of the IOL market due to their reliability in cataract surgeries. They are particularly popular in high-demand markets with aging populations and are likely to remain dominant given their proven effectiveness in vision restoration.
Premium IOLs: For patients desiring improved quality of life post-surgery, premium IOLs—including multifocal, EDOF, and accommodating lenses—offer enhanced capabilities, addressing both near and far vision needs. Although premium IOLs require out-of-pocket expenses, demand is rising, especially among patients in developed regions who can afford customized solutions.
Phakic IOLs: Phakic IOLs, implanted without removing the eye’s natural lens, cater to younger patients with high myopia or hyperopia. While they have a smaller market share, these lenses are gaining attention due to their non-invasive correction of refractive errors, offering a valuable alternative for patients seeking vision correction without laser surgery.
5. Regional Market Highlights:
North America and Europe: Dominant regions in the intraocular lens market, North America and Europe benefit from robust healthcare infrastructure, increased awareness of eye health, and greater disposable incomes. Insurance coverage and government-supported healthcare initiatives further support IOL uptake. In these regions, the adoption of premium IOLs is notably high, with patients willing to invest in improved visual outcomes.
Asia-Pacific and Latin America: Rapid economic growth, rising disposable incomes, and improved healthcare access in countries like China, India, and Brazil are transforming these regions into lucrative markets. As awareness of advanced IOL technologies increases, companies are likely to experience significant demand growth for both monofocal and premium IOLs.
6. Challenges Facing the Intraocular Lens Industry:
High Cost of Premium Lenses: While standard IOLs are generally covered by insurance, premium lenses often require out-of-pocket payments, limiting their accessibility. The price sensitivity of patients, especially in low- and middle-income regions, presents a barrier to widespread adoption of advanced IOL options.
Shortage of Skilled Ophthalmologists: A growing demand for cataract surgeries faces a counterbalance in the form of a shortage of ophthalmologists. This is particularly challenging in developing countries, where fewer eye care professionals are available to meet the rising patient needs. Addressing this gap requires increased funding in medical training and support for telemedicine to expand the reach of eye care.
7. Future Trends and Opportunities in the IOL Market:
AI and Digital Health Integration: Artificial intelligence is becoming integral to the development and customization of IOLs, with AI algorithms helping identify optimal lenses based on patient-specific factors. Additionally, AI-powered platforms can enhance surgical precision and support virtual consultations, enabling remote areas to access specialized eye care.
Personalized Vision Correction Solutions: The trend toward personalized medicine is also influencing the IOL market. Advances in IOL technology enable customization of lenses to cater to specific patient profiles, such as correcting astigmatism or enhancing low-light vision. This approach will likely drive demand for premium IOLs in developed regions, where patients seek optimal visual quality.
Conclusion:
The intraocular lens market is on a promising growth trajectory, driven by an aging global population, increased cataract surgeries, and significant advancements in IOL technologies. Emerging markets and AI integration represent exciting avenues for growth, as companies focus on innovative solutions to meet diverse patient needs. For stakeholders in the intraocular lens market, keeping pace with these trends is essential to capture market opportunities and contribute to a future where vision care is accessible, effective, and tailored to each patient.

What You Need To Know About Cataract Treatment Options?
Cataracts are a common eye condition that affects millions worldwide, leading to cloudy vision and often impairing the ability to perform daily activities. With advancements in medical science, cataract treatment has evolved significantly, offering various effective options. Whether you’re exploring preventive measures or planning surgery, it’s essential to understand the types of treatment available. Here’s a comprehensive look at cataract treatment options and how Nishma Health Assist can guide you in choosing the best hospital for your specific needs.
Understanding Cataracts and the Need for Treatment
Cataracts typically develop gradually, clouding the eye’s natural lens and affecting vision. They are most commonly age-related, though factors like genetics, certain medications, and lifestyle choices can increase the risk. While glasses or stronger lighting may temporarily improve sight, cataract surgery is often the only effective way to restore clear vision as the condition progresses.
Cataract treatment focuses on removing the clouded lens and replacing it with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This surgery is one of the safest and most frequently performed procedures worldwide, with high success rates and minimal recovery time.
Exploring Cataract Treatment Options
There are various treatment options available for cataracts, each offering unique benefits:
Phacoemulsification (Phaco Surgery)
This is the most common cataract surgery, involving a small incision through which ultrasound waves break up the cataract. The fragments are then gently removed, and an IOL is inserted. Phacoemulsification is minimally invasive, allowing for quick recovery and minimal discomfort.
Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE)
ECCE involves a larger incision to remove the clouded lens. While less common than phacoemulsification, ECCE is sometimes necessary for advanced or dense cataracts that are difficult to break up with ultrasound. Patients may experience a slightly longer recovery time with this option.
Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS)
Femtosecond lasers have added precision to cataract surgery by automating steps like corneal incisions and lens fragmentation. FLACS offers increased accuracy, reduced risk of complications, and faster healing. However, it is generally more costly and may not be available at all hospitals.
Choice of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)
IOLs are the artificial lenses placed in the eye after cataract removal. There are different types of IOLs available:
Monofocal IOLs provide clear vision at a single distance, typically for far vision.
Multifocal and Trifocal IOLs offer clear vision at multiple distances, potentially reducing dependence on glasses.
Toric IOLs correct astigmatism along with cataract treatment, improving clarity.
Each of these treatments requires personalized guidance based on individual eye health, lifestyle, and specific needs.
