Been playing Castlevania advanced collection and did this sketch of Camilla from Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.

Vampire Survivors devoured me until I hit the point of the spectacle no longer being impressive. I have moved on to the two Igarashi-era Castlevanias I have never finished: Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance.

Circle of the Moon was kind of a pain to navigate, and almost every mid-to-late game enemy was a huge pain in the ass to fight. Gorgeous game, though. Every criticism I have about the Dual Setup System and general gameplay is addressed by future Castlevania games of the era.

Harmony of Dissonance is a bit of a mixed bag, I think. I enjoy it quite a lot, Juste being very fast is fun, and I dig how nonlinear the castle feels. Juste's Spellbook + Subweapon system is still a little clunky, but achieves everything cool about DSS without all the mostly useless filler. But the lack of traditional teleporters (so far, at 7 hours in) really hurts doing area revisits.

Inspired by that Prince of Persia Metroidvania I heard about, I've taken to making a screenshot catalog of every location I can't get past / to. And unfortunately, returning to some of those led to me discovering the route was essentially double-locked by a power-up I did have and then one that I didn't. Given the lack of traditional teleporters, this has led to me walking the entire length of the castle multiple times. That sucks, but at least I'll know not to waste my time until the very late game on future playthroughs.

In conclusion, it is shocking to return to the world of heterosexuality. A world where one man chains another man to a pillar in order to perform a dark ritual that will restore his power upon the rise of the full moon. A world where two remarkably gorgeous men visit a foreboding castle together and occasionally remember that there's a woman they know who is in danger or something?

Playing through Circle of the Moon and every boss is referred to online as “one of the hardest bosses in the game” so I never know how awful it’s going to be. Except now I’m on the goat guy, and I hate him. So I think he’s the hardest, thanks

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon not being canon is horseshit because Nathan is most likely of Belmont descent - either his mother was a Belmont or he is at least distantly related. The fact that he was able to seal Dracula at all is proof to me, along with the song during the Dracula fight being freaking called “PROOF OF BLOOD”. Konami can fight me in the Denny’s parking lot after midnight. FITE ME.

TL;DR- Nathan Graves is somehow related to the Belmont family and deserves to be a canon protagonist.
