Aberfeldy Whisky The Exceptional Series 17 y.o. Calvados Finish

The Aberfeldy 17 Year Old Double Cask Calvados is a limited special release from the Scottish Aberfeldy Distillery. Distilled on September 29, 2004, this single malt was first matured in refill hogsheads before undergoing a 19-month finishing period in an ex-Calvados cask (Cask No. 100002). Only 246 bottles of this exclusive release are available worldwide.

Bourbon rarely has other alcohol influences since it requires a virgin cask unlike single malts or other whiskies. Angels Envy is probably the biggest bourbon producer with cask finishing but there are a few other standard releases available on the market with Belle Meade offering a good portion of those. Why don’t distilleries release more unique expressions? What unique expression would you like to see? Barrell Dovetail. There’s a ton going on here. The rum stood out the most to me by far. There’s a shredded banana peel note that I only find in rum that really stands out to me and sadly overpowered the Port and Cabernet. This is the kind of whiskey that’s always fun to try.
