Broke down at the St. Louis NARBC show and ended up this little girl! Her name is Echidna, and she is a Coastal Carpet Python.
She would like the world to know that she is spicy and spring-loaded!

Oooh, girl! You’ll never believe what Sally said to Steph today!
4/10 for respecting privacy, 20/10 for spilling hot tea.

These last two snakes have little in common, besides my love for their beautiful yellow speckling and stripes! The golden tree snake (Chrysopelea ornata) can be found in a wide range through south and southeast Asia. Like the other species in the Chrysopelea genus, the golden tree snake is known as a flying snake! Excellent climbers, they are able to launch themselves from high branches and, by flattening their bodies, gently glide from tree to tree or sometimes from a tree to the ground. They are very shy and skittish snakes, and much prefer to flee when threatened but will often bite if handled. They are rear-fanged venomous, but their venom is not considered a threat to humans. Carpet pythons (Morelia spilot) can be found on mainland Australia--typically on the eastern and northern coasts--as well as in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and on Yule Island. They are able to thrive in a variety of environments, from wet tropics to the arid deserts, and it is not uncommon for them to find themselves in human habitations. They tend to be most active at night, and can often be found basking and enjoying a nap in the sun.

I'm Australian and I love snakes so I made a snake character. Her name is Poppy and she's a (South West) Carpet Python (because I'm from South-West Australia). Carpet Pythons are also well known to be very docile and sweet animals, which I think is pretty cute.
Poppies symbolize the blood spilled and lives lost during both World Wars, as well as hope for a peaceful future. Lest We Forget.
She also has brown eyes with a little bit of green because I have brown eyes with a little bit of green :)
Uhhhhh snakes are really cool :)

I got a visit from a local legend today!
This is Rustle, the Carpet Python. They're named so for the sound of rustling leaves they make as they move. Other that, people in the street usually know he's around by their shed skin. Actually seeing them is rare to my understanding, so I feel blessed. Interestingly, my mum was alerted to him by a local couple that were making alarm cries. When my parents were harrasing Rustle with photograph, the magpies were surprisingly tolerant of our presence while we were taking photographs. Maybe we made them feel safe?

1 week update for Echidna:
She's settling into her quarantine enclosure nicely. She's had her first meal already and I'm giving it 1 more week before I begin the process of working with her.

Don't go walking at night without your torch on in Queensland...
I only saw him as I stepped over him! He's just trying to keep warm.

Irian Jaya Carpet Python, from a pet shop in Manchester
Fact from pet snake care : Carpet Pythons are large Australian constrictors, the smallest of which is the Irian Jaya Carpet Python. This beautiful and powerful constrictor reaches a length of 5 – 7 feet and is ideal for anyone who wants to own one of these impressive and beautiful snakes but has limited space. Some other Carpet Python subspecies such as the Coastal Carpet Python (M.s.mcdowelli) can reach lengths exceeding 12 feet.
Irian Jaya Carpet Pythons are slender constricting snakes with large heads that are very distinct from their bodies and they are found naturally in New Guinea and the far northern coast of Australia. These nocturnal snakes are also sometimes known as West Papuan Carpet Pythons.

Shithead McIdiot (Tonic) did great at his follow up vet appointment today. Decided to extend antibiotics for another couple of weeks because some of the damage in his mouth is still a touch irritated, but we were given the go-ahead to return him to his regular enclosure (with the substrate swapped for paper towels and some extra branches added to prevent a big fall) since he's been very actively noodling around in the hospital box.
She does think he's lost the vision in his right eye, and he may have a slight permanent wobble from minor brain injury given the extent of the damage to his head. Shouldn't be enough to significantly impact QOL. Little worried about getting him to eat again, but we're going to start him back on pinkies and see. All in all, though, REALLY great prognosis and recovery for a snake with cat bites as severe as his were. Considering I didn't even think he was still alive when I found him, this is definitely a great outcome.
