Venom’s fighting style

We [film viewers] were presented two big fighting scenes at the end of «Venom» and «Venom. Let there be Cranage». There are some interesting things

1. Venom’s fighting style has more in common with humans’ than any other symbiote’s fighting has

1.1 Because he employes human hand-to-hand combat techniques

It looks so human-like

1.2 And becauseVenom appears to be using external weapons (the ones that are not made of his body), unlike Riot or Carnage. For example, Riot stabs Eddie with a blade which Riot basically made of himself. Carnage throws spikes in Venom and Eddie when they approach him at the beginning of the battle in the Cathedral and later, when Carnage pinned Eddie and Venom to the wall. Those spikes are emitted from Carnage's body

Venom uses Riot’s blade to blow up Riot

Venom uses bell tongue to fight Carnage

Venom uses some kind of steel tube to stab Carnage

1.3 Venom intentionally tripped Carnage in a way like humans do

2. Venom learns from his past fighting experience

2.1 If a combat proves to be unsuccessful, Venom doesn’t employ it again. In this scene we can see that Venom made a shield, and it didn’t work well: Riot bypassed the shield and damaged Venom. So shield turned out to be useless. Venom understood that and never tried to use shield again in a similar fight with Carnage

2.2 And if a fighting technique proves successful, Venom uses it again. Venom managed to grab Riot’s face and shake it so that Riot would hit the ground hard. It lets Venom kick him afterwards.

It was the most successful attack which Venom managed to make against Riot. And Venom memorized that and implemented it in a battle with Cranage

Unfortunately, it was not as successful as it was with Riot, but it was still worth a try

3. Venom learns in the moment from his enemy

Carnage makes great use of his limbs stretching them up to surprising scale. Venom copied this idea and stretched his legs while spinning Carnage around the Grace Cathedral

It is really cool because we get a chance to see the logical behavior of a character rather than a fighting style driven by «he had already used this type of attack in the first movie, in the second movie we will make something up just not to coincide because we want to show film viewers a new picture» attitude.

Once again, I rewatched LTBC and gotta say, the pacing, the building and an actual story seem so much better and consistent than in VTLD. Emotional connections feel validated. And the worldbuilding that started in the first movie matters there, too. Don't get me started on the side characters who also seem more alive.

I like how they showed us Carnage. He is scary, if you really think about it, but he's also an intriguing character. He's a fresh symbiote, he's wild, he's totally out of his element in this world and doesn't know better and follows his instincts only.

Why he fits the story better than any Knull? Apart from the things that I want to talk about some other time, Carnage fits better because his introduction and danger feels gradually higher after Riot's. It's a step up, but not a jump between the whole staircase. While in the Knull's intro we're immediately thrown somewhere to the skyscraper. And off of it. In my opinion, there shouldn't be Knull just yet. Or at all.

One little detail I love from the Venom movies is how when Eddie transforms, Venom emerges and protectively envelops him, but when Cletus transforms, Carnage looks like he's ripping him apart. A hint of how Venom is symbiotic, but Carnage is parasitic.

I had originally thought it was Carnage being bonded in Cletus's blood specifically, but Venom is also in Eddie's blood-- so it's definitely more than that. It could be a style choice, since Riot enveloped Drake in Venom 1- or maybe evolution with Carnage being the next generation.

I like that, though. Venom wants to protect Eddie. But Carnage didn't give two fucks about Cletus. The power of love babey!!!!!

VENOM THE LAST DANCE HAD ME SOBBING

I was shaking in the darkness of the theater during the end. I dragged my best friend to go see it thinking it was going to be a cutesy movie about two husbands but NO. I might just sue the producers for emotional damages because it got me all in my feelings. One scene in particular that stuck out to me was when Venom and Eddie were just dropped off in Vegas and Venom was babbling about how he wanted to see a Broadway show in New York. Meanwhile, Eddie is zoning out on a married couple agreeing with Venom despite hating musicals OMGGG PLEASE THEY DESERVED THEIR HAPPY ENDING BEING HAPPILY MARRIED.

I stayed in my seat till the very end where a scene came up with that bartender from Mexico just being confused in Area 51 where pieces of Venom could still be laying around perhaps...?
