There's plenty of criticism for the young generations, the likes of Denisova, Sergeenkova (from BT), Khoreva, Ilyushkina (from MT), etc, and saying how they don't compare to the old(er) generations, Zakharova, Obratsova, Krystanova, Kaptsova,Novikova, Kondaurova... etc etc. So I'm wondering, how did the old generations do when they were new graduates around 20 years old? Were they having the same issues back then as these new dancers are having now (technical sloppiness? lack of artistry? lack of preparation for big roles?...) How do these young gen dancers compare to them when they were young?

The obvious comparison is Zakharova, this is the woman who was admitted directly into the graduating class at VBA and never spent a second in the corps. She has still set the record for speed and made principal at 18. Absolutely ridiculous. But then again, she came out of school looking like this. While she certainly didn't have the emotional depth and soulful lyricism that she developed later, she had beautifully sustained lines and nearly impeccable turnout.

Many of today's graduates have similar body types to her, but nowhere NEAR her precision or control of those extraordinarily long legs. The level of emotional depth perhaps wasn't quite there, but the technical proficiency is simply insane. But even then, that's her Nikiya at age 20...we've seen far worse in recent years.

Kondaurova is a totally different case. It's difficult to find old performance videos of her...likely because she wasn't doing anything that people deemed worthy of filming. She was not considered a prodigy at graduation, at 26 years old she was still a second soloist and it took her 12 years to get to prima- with some serious lobbying by her coaches and outside choreographers. Today's 'star' grads aren't fighting like Kondaurova. No one wanted to give her classical roles, she and her coach, then Chenikova had to battle for her to be given chances. It's maddening because we have 20-year-old first soloists and 22-year-old primas and no one bats an eye. Ratmansky was quite impressed with her, "She is more spontaneous on stage than most of her colleagues. And everything that often looks like improvisation is actually well rehearsed." That's a key difference between her and a lot of today's grads, she put in the work to appear so spontaneous and carefree- not to look technically perfect.

While there are minimal videos, I can definitely see how much she improved in the early years of her career. The clarity of pointework, stability of turnout, and general presence are much improved in the later video.

Krysanova is someone who I think had a well-paced career, but by today's pace, it looks like she was sleepwalking. She graduated BBA with a handful of prizes, and she had attention from the start. She did 3 solid years in the corps and then took another 5 years to get to prima under the detailed preparation of one of the Bolshoi's best coaches: Svetlana Adyrkhaeva. Again, Ratmansky pushed and praised her along with Osipova and she was a principal at 26- the youngest at the time. She was and continues to be, the go-to ballerina at BT for new choreographers, featured in premiere after premiere because everyone wants to harness her versatility, but that took time to develop. The older videos of her are quite good, but not mind-blowingly so in my opinion.

Obratzsova did indeed graduate to a big fuss and her star only continued to rise. She is similar to the current age of graduates, as she got loads of big roles early. By reading old reviews, there's pretty much an overwhelmingly positive consensus. She was a sensation to audiences with her Juliet, the youngest ever to dance it at MT, expertly guided by Ninel Kurgapkina. Her confidence and lightness was just irresistible, you couldn't not fall in love with her. From day one, she had the charm, the poise, and the style. Her presence was what got her roles, despite being a bit undersized. If she graduated today, I'm not sure she'd have the same opportunities. Similarly to Iliushkina, she won the gold medal at Moscow, and while reports suggest she went against administration in doing so, she proved that she could handle herself in a huge variety of repertoire. Only three years after graduating, people like Carla Fracci and Pierre Lacotte were creating work specifically for her, inside and outside of Mariinsky. This current young generation is definitely less sought after, with the exception of Khoreva, for freelancing/media/creations- although a lot of that can be blamed on COVID and then the war.

Marina Vasilyeva really struck gold in 2002 with both Novikova and Obratsova in the same class. Novikova arrived at the theatre with splendid port de bras and an organized presentation, in addition to snatching the top prize at the Vaganova International Ballet Competition in her graduating year. Additionally remarkable is her phrasing, looking blissfully effortless in addition to the intricacies of her upper body even from a young age. Every step was always clear, although not quite as luminous as she later became. I think today's graduates should be watching more videos of her and taking note of her fluidity. It took her far too long to get to principal, but she was a first soloist in 6 years, a well paced timeline in my opinion.

Nina Kaptsova really had a strong start to her career. She was dancing solo roles from her first season at the Bolshoi. In 1999, only 3 years after graduating, she was nominated for the prestigious Benois de la Danse prize. A year later, she won it. Even so, she wasn't named principal until 2011. These dancers are simply part of a different timeline, it seems like it's becoming more and more common to see dancers graduate and become principals in 5 years or less, particularly at the Bolshoi.

I don’t think we talk enough of what happened to people in their late 20s and early 30s during Covid.

You had just graduated and entered the workforce a few years back. Started building your career, taking steps up on those ladders. You had maybe moved in with a spouse a few years back.

Mumbling her thanks, Steph headed downstairs, where Tyson had cleared a drawer for the two girls to share. On her way, a collection of frames on the wall caught her attention and she stopped to inspect them closer. Grandpa had framed newspaper cuttings that dated back to the very beginnings of Tyson’s beyblading career. The first frame was from the Japanese Nationals five years earlier, where Tyson had defeated Kai for the first time. In the picture, a twelve year old Tyson was holding a small trophy and wore a grin from ear to ear. The following articles depicted each of the Bladebreakers achievements that followed in that year, their championship wins in China and America, their exhibition match against the Majestics and the World Championships in Russia. Newer articles and photos chronicled the BBA Revolution’s journey around the world in their third Championship. She was just reading the article from the BEGA tournament when a door at the end of the hallway opened and Hiro Granger stepped out. “I thought I heard a commotion over suitcases,” he said, a hint of humor in his voice. “Am I being overly ambitious expecting Tyson and Becky to get along while living under the same roof?” “Only if you don’t adhere to the bathroom schedule,” Steph advised him. Hiro chuckled. “I’ll keep that in mind.” He turned to the wall. “So you found Grandpa’s Hall of Fame?” he said. He pointed to one of the frames. While Becky looked as ecstatic as her teammates, the Russian wore what Steph could only describe as a sad smile - he had lost Dranzer only hours earlier. In the middle of the photo was a newcomer, clearly younger than the rest of the team, and, standing next to Steph, he barely reached her shoulder. Program Offerings

Madras University Distance Education offers undergraduate programs, post-graduate programs, MBA programs, and B.Ed. programs, Diploma & Certificate courses in the streams of Arts and Humanities, Literature, Commerce, Science, Education, IT, Management, and Performing Arts such as BA, BCom, BSc, BCA, BBA, and Bachelor of Literature in Tamil (BLit in Tamil). The course duration of all these programs is three years. The students are eligible to be admitted to the courses of Madras University Distance Education if they have completed their 10+2 with a recognized board. Selection of the students based on the marks opted by the students in their 10+2, The University selects students on a merit basis.

MayBlade 2023 : Day 7 : Duty

Hiro | FFN Rating: K | FFN Link ❖ Regardless of what people might think, Hiro didn’t make the decision to join BEGA lightly.

From the outside, it looked like BEGA rose up to usurp the BBA overnight. In reality, it had been a long time coming.

The fumbling of the partner format in the previous World Championships had dissuaded several popular teams from competing and, though the stadium sold out, there was a drastic drop in coverage on international networks that hurt the bottom line. For a split second, it looked like it could be the start of a dangerous trend, and the BBA went bigger for the next tournament.

And it paid off. But it also took Mr. Dickenson out of the office and out of the country for a handful of important board meetings. It was ironic that his love for his bladers and dedication to making this the most successful World Championship tournament yet, had ultimately left an opening for Boris to weasel into.

Boris, who orchestrated the whole Barthez Battalion stunt, used it as further proof that the BBA was due for a change in leadership. With enough money waved around, it turned into a complete rebrand. Or sellout. You heard both, depending on who you talked to.

Whatever you called it, Hiro knew it would crush Tyson.

His brother was sentimental and loyal to a fault. Hiro had seen those qualities nearly put an end to his World Championship run before Tyson learned to manage them. And, with zero chance of Tyson joining BEGA with Boris at the helm, those qualities could bring his entire career to a screeching halt.

It was with that knowledge that Hiro signed a contract with BEGA, mere days after their Championship victory.

Tyson reacted how he predicted and, as the days unfolded, all his friends did, too.

Ray, Max, Daichi, Kenny, and Hilary – he knew they’d ultimately stand by Tyson’s side. That was good. He’d need them. Not as rivals – Hiro knew they weren’t on that level – but as a support system to keep him focused.

But just like he needed them, he needed Hiro to side with his enemy. He needed somebody to look at the bigger picture and train up an opponent that would ensure that Tyson could rise to the next level as a beyblader. He needed to be strong enough to outlast the BBA, BEGA, and whatever might come after.

It wouldn’t be Kai. He was too concerned with finding his own means to the same old end. Always so eager to battle Tyson and prove he was a worthy rival, that he completely missed the part where Tyson had left him in the dust ages ago.

Luckily, as much as Kai tried to be a thorn in Hiro’s side and sling empty threats, he was too nearsighted to derail his plans. Especially once Brooklyn came along.

Brooklyn, with his heaps of natural talent and lack of discipline, reminded Hiro of Tyson in some ways. But Hiro knew the first time he saw Brooklyn launch a beyblade, that he’d finally found a blader capable of outpacing Tyson on his best days. Brooklyn was just what his plan needed; just what Tyson needed.

Hiro could see Kai’s wheels turning the second he laid eyes on Brooklyn. He predicted, then and there, that Kai would suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of Brooklyn, and he was right.

It made him happier than he realized it would, to see Kai defeated. Maybe because, with Kai out of the way, Tyson would have one less distraction. Or maybe it was because Kai’s loss was all the confirmation Hiro needed that he was doing the right thing.

Tyson’s old teammates couldn’t push him to his limits any longer. He needed Brooklyn. More importantly, he needed Hiro, someone to look at the bigger picture.

Part of Hiro guessed that Kai would end up crawling back to Tyson. When he stepped up for the fourth round of the Justice Five Tournament and challenged Brooklyn, Hiro ordered Brooklyn to compete. From where he was standing, it was a win-win situation.

Either Brooklyn won and took Kai down a peg or, ever more likely as Kai pulled himself to his feet over and over again, Brooklyn would lose and have a reason to come back stronger for the inevitable tie-breaking Final. Because Garland wasn’t a match for Tyson; it would come to a tie-breaker.

It all played out better than he could have ever imagined. Brooklyn losing, Garland losing. Boris was angry, but Hiro hadn’t ever been working towards his goal of complete and total control over the sport of beyblading. He thought Boris might even be beginning to realize that, but it was too late, at this stage in the game, to find somebody else who could help Brooklyn realize his full potential.

And boy, did Brooklyn have potential.

With some guidance from Hiro, he woke from his slump and learned how to harness his emotions, that desire for revenge, to become the most destructive beyblader Hiro had ever seen. The manic look in his eyes promised BEGA a sure and swift victory. For the first time, Hiro doubted Tyson’s ability to combat him.

A strange sense of excitement twisted in his gut, as he and Brooklyn trained into the night on the eve of the final battle.

If Brooklyn won, Hiro was training the next World Champion.

But, if Tyson could rise to the challenge, he would grow to become ten times the blader he was at the start of the tournament. Not because he had friends by his side or the BBA to fight for, but because he had Hiro. And Hiro’s duty, as his older brother, was to make sure Tyson was the best he could be, no matter what.
