I still think about how Gwen's dad pointed a gun at her, and then got mad when Gwen didn't want to talk/look at him.
Like, sir, you pointed a GUN to your teenage DAUGHTER. You raised your gun back up after she unmasked.
Like, you found out Spider-ghost was your daughter and you still thought she killed HER best friend?? And on purpose??
You had a duty as a police man to what?? Shoot your unarmed teenage daughter if she tried to leave?? Instead of trying to let her explain at least??
Even Aaron let Spiderman go when he found out he was his nephew, and he was the villain.

Somehow, I always missed this funny note Hobie's portal gives Gwen when she activates the watch. x)
Also, when her dad smiles, the word that we see behind him twice is "genuine". I like that a lot.

Not sure if this counts as an unpopular opinion, but while Gwen and her dad’s reconciliation scene was absolutely beautiful and I wouldn’t want it any other way, I DO realistically think that Gwen’s dad doesn’t deserve forgiveness with no strings attached.
Tumblr media
Obviously he loves his daughter- he gave up his career for her- and yeah, I love that! That’s great! But because Gwen is his daughter, Gwen is going to have this inherent need to just forgive and forget any wrongdoing her father commits. The desperation in her expression and tone during every scene in ATSV with her dad when she’s begging him to understand me says it all:
Tumblr media
For a time, her home was no longer hers. It wasn’t safe for her to be there. She wasn’t welcome. Of course the minute her dad opens his arms to her again, she’s going to look at him like a savior even though he’s the reason she had nowhere to go in the first place, leading her to join Spider Society. As a firm believer in the validity of the trans allegory of Gwen’s ATSV arc, I’m going to use comparisons to the queer experience. If someone rejects your identity, there’s nothing to be done about it, nothing that can undo it—that will always stick with you! Gwen is always going to wonder when the other shoe is going to drop and she’s out again, because if it happened once, it can happen again. She might forgive her dad for everything, but she’s never not going to live in fear thinking it could happen again.
Tumblr media
Long story short, Gwen’s dad needs to sit in the corner and think about what he’s done. His daughter was homeless and rejected and that’s his fault. Amen

Headcanon time
Gwen when sleeps, she has the habit to grab the nearest thing (or person,) and hug it/them, and she will NOT let go.
Her dad discovered this the hard way after watching television together until late in the morning, with Gwen taking his arm to hug; something she always did ever since she was a kid.
Except that now he can't move his arm, because his daughter has super strength now.
If this happened to Miles, in theory he could free himself from her, except that he doesn't have the heart to disturb her.
Miles; seeing his beautiful girlfriend hug his middle section as she takes a nap after a long day patrolling: Well I guess I am stuck forever now.

had my second high definition viewing of atsv in the theater today and here are my favorite details that i missed due to being overwhelmed on my first viewing:
LONG AF POST:
-gwen is literally wearing a rainbow shaped trans pride pin on her jacket with her prom outfit. she's soooo so canon trans <3
-captain stacy HAS A TRANS FLAG PATCH ON HIS POLICE UNIFORM JACKET?????? when i'm telling u my eyes popped out of my head 😳 SHES SO CANON TRANS!!!
-poster outside miles's guidance counselor's office reads: "visions sciences: telling you your story".
-parallel of miles's and gwen's dad kicking things out of general exasperation towards the beginning and end of the movie respectively
-when miles as spidey is talking to his dad and giving him advice (for himself) there's a reference to miles possibly reading vonnegut? (maybe in class??) "if this isn't nice what is" is a collection of kurt vonnegut's commencement speeches. (literally subtitled "advice to the young". the writers were extremely clever for this reference. if not reading it in class, miles has been searching up life advice on his own)
-i barely caught this but i'm PRETTY sure that in miles' room near his door there's a MICHELLE OBAMA presidential race sticker??? was president obama in the earth-1610 dimension michelle obama?? iconic if so
-fedex on earth-1610 is REDEX
-gayatri seems like they took elements of both gwen (police dad) and mj (young model) for her background as i believe i caught her visible on a "zomato" ad billboard (which appears to be the earth-50101 version of ubereats)
-i spent all of hobie's scenes trying to pick up the details of his many pins; but the only one that i could really make out with the quick shot changes besides the union jack pin was the one right above it, which is a three-leaf clover. i wondered if maybe it had some kind of significance to maybe irish independence or smth but i couldn't find anything online that backed that up so not sure what it means. if u know pls drop it in the replies.
-hobie's boots are definitely NOT ladder laced. i KNOW there is concept art and poster art of him with ladder laces but in the actual movie they are 100% crossed. also unlike the poster art, both boots have blue laces, not one blue, one yellow/orange. i wanted to be all on board the ladder lace code train but i'm pretty sure they just made his laces blue so that they could contrast against the red boots and be spidey colors. they probably abandoned the ladder lace part of the visual when someone realized what blue ladder laces meant in lace code. "HAS hobie killed a cop," you ask? given his comic backstory i'd say the odds are HIGH. but i would bet they didn't want people to think that since he's gone through canon event asm-90 ("a police captain close to spider-man is killed by falling rubble during a battle with a nemesis") that there's any possibility THAT was the cop he killed and he's proud of it (since it's supposed to be all abt character development from the ✨trauma✨ of the event)
-during the whole "intervention" scene, while all the other spider-people are facing directly in towards miles and miguel from wherever they are standing in the circle, hobie is the only one whose back is turned. he watches most of the scene over his shoulder. also, during a couple shots facing miles before the entire society of spiders show up, hobie is separated in the shot from all the other main spiders (Peter B, Gwen, Jess, etc) BY MILES. he is visible over one shoulder and everybody else is visible over the other. these two details are great signals of hobie having already MORALLY turned his back on miguel's authoritarianism, as well as giving a nice inverted "devil/angel on the shoulders" nod.
-peter b asks miguel to take a picture of him and mayday since it's her first chase; miguel brushes him off but mayday understands and uses her webshooter to click the camera button on peter b's phone and take a selfie without him noticing 😂😂😂 shes everything to me
-when miguel is pinning miles to the train, after gwen and peter b have caught up, there is a very fast moment when miles calls for help ("PETER!!") and peter doesn't reply to him, but calls out to miguel to calm down (smth like that) instead 🥲 peter for the love of god step up your mentor game and look out for this kid i can't handle it anymore
-when gwen takes the watch hobie made her out of the box, the screen is briefly visible and reads "project botleg". bootleg -> bot -> "botleg"; I SEE YOU HOBIE. people think he's so cool (and he is!!) but he's also just as much of a dork as all the other spiders. what a goofball
-in miles-42's room, a speed bag/speed ball/maize ball is attached to his wall near the door. there are other substantial differences to their rooms, but i think this is clearly a reference to uncle aaron-42's large presence in miles-42's life, given the association from both movies of aaron with the punching bag and miles getting guidance from him/looking to him for support.
-in addition to all the miles-1610 vs miles-42 prowler vs spidey reflection imagery in the end credits, guess who else has several moments of flashing from spider-man colors (red and black at least) to prowler colors (purple and green)?? miguel, that's who. miguel and miles-42/uncle aaron-42 team-up in beyond the spiderverse? or just an extra parallel for the antagonists sharing goals/possibly methods?
OKAY ANYWAY if ppl want i can try and dig up images of some of these but i figured that would make this post long af so that's all for now folks!! go see across the spider verse again and marvel at how much more fine detail you find like me 🕸🕸🕸

I feel like Hobie would be the person who understands that empathy isn't just saying how another person is feeling without their permission, as that's rather invasive.
That, of course, doesn't mean he can't say anything.
While I doubt he ripped him apart based on how Gwen reacted, he can absolutely talk with him a bit and make positive he won't shoot her the moment she comes back. That he will actually give her the gift when she returns.
He can definitely imply knowledge over the event and let him know that he did help Gwen out after everything. It isn't breaking trust if he simply insinuates knowledge to a person who also knows. It isn't speaking for her if he doesn't talk from her perspective.
And honestly? That has the very real possibility to make George feel worse. He feels guilty for doing it. Then someone comes into his house and tells him that yes, she was existing. Yes, he'd helped her. Yes, he'd kept her safe.
That implies, yes, I did what you were supposed to do.
And that keeps poking at the issue before finally getting to the point.
If she comes back, will he shoot her?
That has to feel like a dagger to the heart. To not know where she's been, have someone else come and poke at his guilt in a way that George himself has to fill in the blanks for.
And then to finally ask the question that George must've thought a thousand times over. The question that mattered most. One he could only hope Hobie believed because it was the only possibility of him seeing his daughter again.
I don't know. There's just something about filling in context for yourself that makes words so much more powerful. Not to mention that an imagination can run rampant when you have no information and a lot of stress. Clarifying her wellbeing, talking about her when she isn't around, it nullifies that a bit.
Point is, there are much better ways to communicate. Don't do this to people. It's rude. But I feel like this is a possibility.
One more thing with Hobie. Cpt Stacy says he was a real piece of work, so obviously he didn’t just drop in and leave the dimension watch and was like “Oy, this is for Gwen if she comes back. Cheers.” I always took this to mean Hobie had a bit of a talk with George about Gwen, maybe even gave him a piece of his mind. I feel like he’d definitely do that.
Oh yeah, the way Captain Stacy talked about him, I'm pretty sure Hobie rightfully chewed him out lmao

Alright, I know a lot of people are headcanoning Gwen as trans, but what if her Peter was actually the trans one?
Gwen's entire story is a trans allegory. I'm pretty sure a lot of people in the ATSV fandom have already established this, but I'm just gonna go over it again in my own perspective.
Peter Parker was Gwen's best friend, and the two of them were so close that Peter and his aunt May would often eat dinner with Gwen and her dad, Captain Stacey and close enough for Captain Stacy to feel a very deep connection towards him.
Tumblr media
I couldn't find a gif, but this scene showed Gwen, Peter, May and Captain Stacy eating dinner together MULTIPLE times, one of those times being Gwen's birthday and another time being Halloween. They are obviously very close family friends.
One could go as far as to say that their closeness could mean that Captain Stacy may have seen Peter as a son to him. Him dying had a huge impact on both Gwen's and Captain Stacy's mental health, which shows that Captain Stacy had as deep of a connection to Peter as Gwen did.
Losing Peter was like losing a son. Later in the movie, Captain Stacy finds out that Gwen is actually Spider-woman. The person who he believed killed his son.
Get it?
He found out his daughter killed his son and doesn't want anything to do with her after that. Exactly like how some fathers feel when they find out their son is transgender. Because they lost their son. Does that make sense?
This seems to be the reason as to why a lot of people are headcanoning Gwen as trans, which is honestly a pretty valid headcanon to make, except-hear me out- what it wasn't Gwen who was trans? What if it was Peter?
Tumblr media
This Peter looks very different from all the other Peters we see. Its not just him being slightly scrawnier thats different, but its also a lot of his facial structure. He looks more feminine. Now don't come for me for saying this, but he looks like he could definitely be a passing trans man.
It would explain why he was getting bullied by "Ned" at school and why he felt the need to become something more (The Lizard). He says he wants to be more like Gwen, like Spider-woman. What if he said that because he too felt like an outcast? He told Gwen that he didn't think Spider-woman was a bad guy, despite Captain Stacy constantly preaching that she was. Spider-woman is a vigilante, who isn't at all liked by the police. She's an outcast. A trans male thats being heavily bullied would relate to that. He would've related to being singled out because he's different.
It would explain Gwen's "Protect trans kids" poster in her room.
Tumblr media
It would also explain Captain Stacy's trans flag pin on his uniform.
Tumblr media
Peter Parker was trans and Gwen and her father supported him and protected him. But it wasn't enough to prevent him from becoming the Lizard.
Hopefully this all made sense! Once again, I'm not saying anything against the Gwen Stacy being trans headcanon, I'm just providing another perspective on the situation <3

I feel so bad for Gwen during the scene when Miguel is explaining canon event's to miles. Because in near enough every spider man story the Stacy's play massive roles.
The three events of the captains death that Miguel shows are all captain Stacy. Asm 90 is his comic death, the amazing spider man 2 clip is his movie death then we see a third animated one where the spider man says his name.
Tumblr media
And Gwen Is looking directly at it in this scene(or at the floor I can't really tell) , because after miles finds out it's Gwens dad he looks over at her.
Tumblr media
Gwen has seen her dad and probably herself die over and over in these canon event conversations she looks so numb to it. It could also possibly play into the part where she didn't want to go home as well as what we've see in the movie, if shes not there he can't die, it also plays into why she didn't go see miles for so long is because she's seen her canon event she knows there's a high chance she could die, like a lot of Gwen's (from what I've seen) die round the age of 18.
And we know she knows about it because of the clock tower screen, when she says her falling in love doesn't end well. I kinda hope it plays a bigger role in btsv because Gwen Is much braver than I am because I would never leave the house again if I found this out.
My poor angel 😭
