This is kinda a part two to a brief reprieve but not? If u wanna read it for context you should 👁👁pretty please 🥺👉👈

“Why must you crumbs be so stubborn…”

Black Pearl cookie growled towards the injured, stubborn sailor, her large hand keeping him still while she disinfected his wounds. It was days like this she was glad the soda from the dustgloom sea had so many health benefits. Captain Caviar cookie had gotten himself injured by a some low life pirates as he was taking his normal trip to see his Pearl. Sure he was an absolutely powerhouse, but there ain’t much he can do about swords if he can’t get close. She had her fun sending those pests to their watery grave for harming her little visitor. She always did enjoy watching them try to swim away as their dough crumbled….

“Pearly I swear I’m fine really-“ The caption stuttered before a painful hiss left his sailor lips, the disinfectant she had whipped up stinging like the devil.

“Don’t try and sweet talk me. You could’ve gotten killed! Were you even being careful out there?! And now since you were being irresponsible I had to destroy your boat to get those little pests off of you! How in the seven soda seas do you think you’re gonna get home huh?!” He winched as her loud, menacing voice, but there was concern behind it, he had really frightened her. 

“Me crew knows wher’ I am, if I don’t come back to port by the morn’ they’ll come get me thinkin ya ate me” he joked in an attempt to lighten the mood, which only earned him a glare from the serpent.

“…yer scales have gotten pinker…” His own voice drifted to concern, thinking she had some sort of parasitic infection, he knew those nasty critters were rampant in the ocean.

“….I know. I’m fine I’m not sick. You’re going to have to sleep in my den until your little lackies come and get you.” She shifted the conversation back to him, finishing wrapping up his wounds a bit more aggressively then she intended, putting him back down onto the coastal bench she was using as a clinic,

Sinking down to meet his eye level.

”lucky me~” he teased, he’s been more flirty recently. Black Pearl cookie thinks ether he has a tumor or he actually likes her, which she thinks is impossible…

“Can it you gross fuck up for a dessert I’m still pissed at you.” She growled, him having a dopy smile on his face.

“…are you ok?” Her tail swishes in the water, avoiding eye contact, god it’s strange feeling so nervous around a measly cookie. He’s supposed the be the nervous one, she could crush him with one hand…

“…yeah pearly I’m alright. Thanks for savin me, didn’t think any cookie would be stupid enough to be near dat route…” he slid back into the water swimming further up to her, still inspecting her now more vibrant scales.

“….you should really start bringing a weapon with you…” Black Pearl cookie grumbled slightly but dropped it. Without warning, she grabbed him again, dipping into the deep, swimming to her little goldmine of a den. He squirmed a bit in confusion but soon realized where in the glittery hell she was taking him.

“Good witch almighty Pearly how the hell did ye get so much treasure????” He means good god- you could pay for an entire collages student debt with all these valuables.

“Well I can’t have any cookies like yourself seeing a gem mermaid as radiant as me have an underdressed den now can I!”

She cackled proudly, bragging. Totally not secretly trying to impress him. She set him down, letting him view her spoils before swimming to her nests, getting snug.

“…do you like my nest?” Her pupils dilated, looking at him for approval. ‘She HAS to be half catfish or something’ he thought to himself. He swears if he ever told his crew about this interaction he thinks they’d throw him in a nursing home.

“‘Course I like your place lass, real cozy.” He swam closer to her, Black Pearl cookie patting the nest with her large clawed mit, giving him permission to sit with her.

They talked about anything and everything they could think of that night, one because nether of them were tired, and two… Black Pearl cookie doesn’t get company usually. She knows that’s her fault but it still doesn’t lessen the pang of loneliness that she’s struck with when he leaves. Their conversation goes to many different places and levels, from him talking about his time in the navy, to the currently migrating sweetish fish traveling north for the colder months to come. He was just… pleasant to speak too. She wondered if his crew was as pleasant to converse with as him.

Sleep that night came easier to him than to her. His small, muscular body was snuggled up in her cloud-like hair, sound asleep and the most comfortable he’s ever been. Black Pearl cookie was restless, the feeling of being so close to someone else was so overwhelming. After a millennia of loathing the thought of being near any living thing, here she layed, cozied up to a very sleepy sailor. Why is it always the sailors. 

….maybe she can savor this… just for a little longer.

Hi ! Sorry for replying just now , I woke up only recently -

I’m really happy you want to know more about my silly gal :D

I actually wanted to add more depth to Jade’s character for a while now , so this is awesome ^^👍

Here are some Jade facts , including some epic lore !

Jade is pansexual , and ever since she was a kid she never thought about the gender of her potential partner being something that mattered to her 💙💛🩷 For example she actually used to have a crush on the one friend she had in middle school , and even though she wasn’t interested in her romantically Jade still remained close to her for many years :) 

Jade was … definitely really different when she was younger compared to the present day : very shy , afraid to raise her voice even just a little too much and terrified about disappointing her parents , she clinged to her skills with technology in hopes of becoming good enough to get her mother’s and father’s approval one day … though Jade only talked about her past with Jaw Bone and no one else : it makes her pretty uncomfortable . 

She’d look kinda like this back in the day ☝️

Speaking of Jade’s parents , they used to be heavily involved with L.A.W back when she was a child , with her sister Lena even becoming an esteemed Agent of theirs … however , they pretty much only had eyes for her , leaving Jade behind without caring about any of her own achievements . Since she had the chance to witness up close just how messed up her family’s ideal were , Jade’s hatred for L.A.W begun very early and still lives on to this day . 

After running away from home ( around 17 years old ) Jade got involved with a group of anti-L.A.W space pirates , and they ended up becoming her real family : their Captain Klamp especially took a liking to her , becoming the father she never had while teaching her how to fight and defend herself , and that was also the point where she decided to get a few “upgrades” to improve herself , gaining her robotic legs and eyes . 

Jade has to be careful about not overcharging her legs , since they can stop working and leave her without a way to move or run away … that’s why whenever she’s in a fight she reflects carefully on her every action .

Jade’s shotgun doesn’t actually use bullets : instead she designed it to shoot pure electricity to paralyze her enemies , which can last for whole days … and give them some brain damage in the worst cases , which in her opinion is very much deserved ;C;

Jade often takes pictures of the L.A.W agents she defeats to then turn them into memes and send them to Jaw Bone … he finds them hilarious :,)

Jade’s favorite food is waffles , to the point that they are included in her breakfast almost every day ! Jaw Bone likes to surprise her by baking them some , doing his best to go easy with the heat ( he almost blew up the kitchen once because he wanted to “test” how much the microwave could take … ) 

When talking about videogames , Jade would be a big fan of strategy based ones , like Pokémon and Inscryption , playing some Minecraft and Stardew Valley  when she’s stressed .

The desk Jade uses in her room to work is neatly organized , and she won’t hesitate to annihilate anyone who messes with it ( JB is the only exception to the rule and even he knows not to push it too far ) 

Jade’s voiceclaim would be Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners , another big inspiration for her being Sombra from Overwatch :D

Jade physically can’t wake up without her cup of coffee in the morning ;I

Even though she works for Disco Head now , Captain Klamp does occasionally pass by to chat with Jade and see how she’s doing , and he always makes sure to remind Jaw Bone that if he makes his adoptive daughter upset he will “kick his sorry boney ass” , even though Jade begs him not to do tell him that … overprotective pirate dad is best dad :,)

I'll try my best to answer it 🫡 (Disclaimer: the time line here is a bit of a mess. Since Housekeeping AU is pre-canon most of tenth gen would be itty bitty but for the sake of this ask just assume I'm talking about the canon versions)

Dan

Squalo (romantic) Squalo and Dan simply vibe. The Captain and the Chief. Loud and quiet. Co-parenting the assassin nutcases together, complaining about the latest stunt some idiot pulled, despairing over Xanxus throwing stuff habit. They are comrades in suffering, your honour. Their bond is forged with blood (not theirs), ink (from all the paperwork) and alcohol (because they need it), it's unbreakable trust👍(beware the bickering though because there's lots of it when these two get going).

Xanxus (romantic) Now, while Squalo and Dan share similarities, Xanxus and Dan are pure contrast. Xanxus is one of the few people that can really rile Dan up, for some reason he knows how to press all his buttons and regulary breaks Dani-boy out of his shell. Squalo brings calm and rest, while Xanxus brings fire and passion. And lots of swearing.

Lal (platonic) Lal and Dan are a great duo. Both competent, both no-nonsense, both sick of training idtiots and dealing with their bosses. They would get along great, quietly exchanging stories over a glass of wine while their partners off doing stupid shit (which they are steadily ignoring). Their friendship would get so much done, they would terrify anyone into submission with a soul piercing stare, it'd be fun!

Fon (platonic) These two haven't met and I don't know if they ever will but they would chill togehter, drinking tea. Just relaxing. Dan would appreciate Fon's zen and ability to kick ass, because he values competence in all forms.

Tsuna (platonic) Dan truly understands Tsuna's plight. Surrounded by chaos, constantly dragged into nonsense... When you just want some godforsaken peace and quiet. They would bond over the craziness that is their life and Dan would teach alll the ways to cope with the chaos (there may be alcohol involved).

Dave (all platonic cause Dave is on the aro spectrum)

Lussuria Sharing a passion with fashion and gossip, Dave and Luss get on like a house on fire. They regualary meet up for spa sessions where they exchange the hottest tea and bitch about Chief not taking care of himself. Sometimes they fuck, sometimes they just giggle and paint each others nails, it very much depends on the mood.

Reborn Chaos gremlins stand united! Dave and Reborn are two peas in a pod, living for the trolling, making everyone's life hell just for the lols. Chief's chaos sense will go haywire should they ever meet and he will instantly cash in all his vacation days at once, cause he ain't dealing with the clean up no sireee~

Bel Another litlle shit going on the list. Dave and Bel are competing over the top spot of: driving Chief to homicide and let me tell you it's a close race. Davey-boy and Baby-Bel love getting up to mischief together, with Dave trying to hold back some of Bel's murderous tendencies. (Dave prefers pschological torment and he's not really that much of a fan of corpse clean up). You could see their relationship as brotherly but if you mention it to either of them they will probably hiss and bite/stab you.

Haru Dave would find Haru adorable! Look at her! Designing funky custumes, eating all the cake and chasing after love. How cute! Dave approves! They would bake cake together, talking about boys (while Dave gives all the wrong advice because he doesn't know shit about romance actually).

Chrome Dave takes on look at Chrome and instantly takes her under his wing. He'd see the look in her eyes, her shy demeanour and thin figure and feel like he's staring into one of these fun house mirrors. Like recognises like. He'd try his best not to spook her, soften his edges a bit and then get some food in her. They'd cook together with Dave showing her the ropes, telling her funny stories all the while, trying to make Chrome laugh. Their relationship would have a bittersweet taste but with a satisfying finish at the end.

Thought I’d share some of my thought process behind my blue team face hc’s since so many of you seemed to like it so much

I’m absolutely biased since Church is by far my favorite (if that wasn’t obvious enough already), so he probably had the most thought put into his design.

According to the ultimate fanbook, the Director got in a fight with another private when he was in basic training who apparently broke his nose, up until Allison beat up the other guy. It’s not as noticeable in the hc sketches but in most art of Church I try to keep a small bump in the nose because of that. I just thought it was a cool nod to how Church is based on the Director.

Honestly I just can’t help but agree with the combination of glasses, black spiky hair, and goatee as the most widely-agreed upon design for Church. Like yeah, that’s what that crusty screaming blue guy would look like 👍

Compared to Tucker and Caboose, he goes through the least amount of drastic changes, somewhat due to the fact that he isn’t in a human body for very long. I like to think Church in his original AI form resembled a younger Director, maybe in his 20′s or 30′s, and the body they picked for him later just needed to look similar enough that the Alpha AI wouldn’t question it. It’s not exact, finding a perfect match is probably impossible, but I like to think poor Private Jimmy just happened to look enough like a younger Director that he ended up the Alpha AI’s host.

Seeing as Epsilon is based on an AI who’s based on a person, it made sense to me that the details got muddled somewhere down the line like a game of telephone. Since he’s only a fragment, the details aren’t as precise as they were on Alpha Church, hence more straight edges (like a model with less polygons).

Tucker was by far the most fun to work on, honestly. The fandom seems a little more divided on how he should look, but that just gave me more ideas to work with.

I like the idea that all 3 of them started off with shorter, ‘military-approved’ length haircuts which grew out as rvb went on.

Can’t forget Florida’s comment about Tucker’s ‘metrosexual good looks’

After the BGC and Tucker went on to become an ambassador, I imagine he got more confident with his energy sword and himself as a soldier. He’s got a few scars, a little stubble, and he’s grown up a bit, but he’s still good ol’ Tucker. His hair kind of worked perfectly for me to illustrate how he grows and develops as a person, for better and for worse.

In The Recollection Trilogy, it’s grown out a bit, but Tucker still keeps his hair neat and up in a ponytail. He’s still figuring shit out, but he’s doing well for himself.

Then the Chorus Trilogy comes along and BAM, hit ‘em with the depression. Some more facial hair, another piercing, a few more scars, but mostly the eyebags and his hair growing out more. First Epsilon leaving with Carolina, then losing Wash, Tucker had to balance the sudden responsibility of becoming captain to the lieutenants on Chorus along with the stress of losing his friends. He was never the leader, Church was always around 'to take the blame when shit went wrong’, and then Wash took his place. A ton of responsibility is suddenly thrust onto Tucker (bow chika bow wow), and I wanted to illustrate visually that he’s NOT taking it well at ALL.

Not only did his hair get longer, but it’s more disheveled now, hanging lower and not as neat anymore as he struggles to keep everything together.

Finally though, I like to think he eventually felt worthy enough as a soldier, a leader, and as a warrior to shave the energy sword symbol into his hair. I’ve seen a ton of fantastic art where people gave him that, and I loved it, but to me it felt almost like a sign of honor, something that he didn’t feel he was ready for until later into the Chorus trilogy when he’d start getting his foothold and regaining his confidence. Eventually he felt he was ready as he truly became a warrior deserving of the symbol.

Caboose was probably the hardest to pin down. There’s a ton of variation in designs, and I don’t think a single design has really become the most agreed-upon. It took some time to think of a design that, at least to me, felt like it matched his voice and personality.

Just like Church and Tucker, I gave him a shorter haircut for his BGC era when he was still a rookie. I had to ensure he looked friendly enough, so after a little searching around for ideas I settled on curly hair. I imagine he’d probably be a brunette. Real warm vibe.

Shoutout to @picz for the idea to give him freckles, outstanding move.

Of course during the Recollection Trilogy his hair grows out like it does for Tucker since they’re... Not really in the army anymore...? They’re sorta... Doing their own thing, so I imagine no one’s sticking to army protocols for hair length anymore (Except Sarge, obviously. Might make some red team face hc’s sometime too....)

I get the impression Caboose doesn’t outwardly show signs of stress quite as badly as Tucker during the Chorus Trilogy. He’s sad Epsilon left, but he isn’t anywhere near overwhelmed or distressed enough to develop eyebags like Tucker.

His hair has grown out longer, so Tucker or Wash probably tied it up into a ponytail for him.

Of course, Caboose grows up too, so I put some facial hair on that boy, plus a few more band-aids and patches here and there. He’s probably got a few scars by now, but not as many as Tucker since Tucker seems more the type to get up close and personal in combat with his energy sword.

-has the ability to look hot even when the Chain all look like shit due to circumstance 😩👍✨

-Dramatic (in a ��girl what’s the tea” kinda sense because his social mask is just a diversion to get information :,) )

1) favorite color. Don’t make me choose things, I have a dice app to do that for me. But like, mostly neutral tones for warm? And blue I guess? Then purple is in there because Hawkeye. I also like olive green. Look I really just like a whole. Lot. Of. colors. Because I’m indecisive as hell.

2) 3??? Favorite ships: most people who know me know I’m too Demi romantic to care for the way shows present ships like the romances are cheesy and drawn out. Well like... ✌️ so Let’s talk John Chrichton/Aeryn Sun because fffffff I am rewatching Farscape and by god I forgot how hot those two are individually and together and also they grow together as characters but by GOD. I had forgotten that QEII knighted Elton in 1998. I corrected my tagline to Sir Elton John 🎹. I’m sure you approve 👍.

The last CD I bought was “Live In Australia with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra” in 1987, the year I got married. I haven’t tracked him since. Now, I can’t conclusively prove that my marriage had anything to do with me falling away from following my teenage musical idol, but 25 years later, in 2012, that same wife abruptly abandoned our German Shepherds and me. You may feel free to draw your own inferences 🧙.

I do, however, have all his vinyl from “Empty Sky”, in 1969 when I was 8 years old, to “Blue Moves” in 1976, from which I drew “Tonight”, including the soundtrack to the movie “Friends” and 11-17-70, recorded in front of a very small live audience at the A&R Recording Studio in New York City and broadcast live over WABC-FM (yes, radio was “a thing” back in my day, the Paleolithic 🦕).

“Tonight” is very very good. The sweeping instrumentals are quite moving, but my all-time favorite, of the songs with which I am aware, absolutely has to be “Skyline Pigeon” from “Empty Sky”. I think it sounds more like a hymn than a mellow rock song.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was an obsession in my teenage years. He showcased a Manic-Depressive, since rebranded “bi-polar”, character all the way back in 1887, when the prevailing consensus on people with somewhat different mental states was that they were all dangerous psychopaths.

When I was just a wee lad, I was introduced to Holmes by Basil Rathbone in the HollyWeird films dating to 1939 - 1946. Until I was old enough to actually read the books I had no idea how horribly these movies were presenting Conan Doyle and Holmes. They FLAT OUT SUCKED !

On another topic that appears to be of interest to you, I grew up watching William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, George Takai and Nichelle Nichols going where no one had gone before.

When word broke of the imminent arrival of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, when I was in Graduate School and had precious little spare time, I was highly skeptical. I was not at all impressed with the first season. Picard was a two dimensional, stiff cut-out who couldn’t make the most minor decisions without input from everyone on the bridge.

But Dr. Beverly Crusher immediately drew my attention for obvious reasons 😍. Gates McFadden. SO Fine!

By season two things really started to take off, although I believe that is when they replaced Dr. Crusher with “Nurse Diesel” aka Dr. Pulaski. From there it just got better. The two part “The Best Of Both Worlds” was an incredible piece of television, more akin to a major motion picture.

Kirk has his admirers, but if I had to face off in battle with one of the Captains of the Enterprise I would pick Kirk every single time!

Kirk, at times, can be rash, not overly analytical (reference the Kobyashi Maru ploy), and occasionally allows his ego to get the best of him.

By contrast, Picard is a master strategist, dispassionate, always thinking three steps ahead of his opponent and a profoundly erudite man who has benefited from countless generations of military officers, battles both major and minor, Psychology, Sociology and a variety of other academic disciplines.

I bought a new iPhone 11 in March which included one free month of Paramount+ streaming service. They have a two season, so far, series “Picard”. If you like STNG, you will love “Picard”! It outclasses STNG in every conceivable way. Sir Patrick Stewart takes Picard to an even richer, more seasoned and more human, including foibles and frailties, place than we have ever seen before.

O.K. I’ve prattled on long enough. I see, from your blog, that you are heavy into early Elton John, even before his “glasses” phase, so here is a not so fun historical fact. The physical characteristics of the soundtrack album from the movie “Friends” are utterly atrocious! It is incredibly thick, has zero flexibility, weighs as much as four regular vinyl record albums, and the audio quality is barely low-fi. Obviously a low budget production.

Wow, that was a long message and I'll try to give it justice with my reply.

I have to admit I only really got into Elton's music about 2 years ago after watching Rocketman and reading his autobiography. O mean, his music's always been there somehow and when I started listening to his albums I was surprised at how many songs I already knew and loved. I remember loving Nikita when it came out and rocking out to Made In England in my dad's car. But it took me until recently to understand his genius. Tonight is one song that has me in awe of his musical talent! One of my favourite songs is also Skyline Pigeon but in the piano version. And you are quite right about the hymn-reference. Elton himself said that about the song. 'When in doubt, write a hymn' is one of my favourite Elton-quotes.

I am heavily in his 70s music but also love what he's done in his later years. The Union, Songs From The West Coast and The Captain & The Kid are masterpieces! His voice is amazing in every decade and his collaborations with Bernie are unmatched.

I could ramble on about him but I also want to turn to the other topics you mentioned.

I've been a fan of Sherlock Holmes for as long as I can remember, read all the stories and watched many films and shows. I love Jeremy Brett! He and Benedict Cumberbatch are my fave Sherlocks. I agree on the Basil Rathbone-series. It is enjoyable but especially in the later episodes it's cringeworthy.

I started being a Trekkie in 1989 when Next Generation first aired in Germany. I loved it from the get go, especially Data. Picard is my favourite captain, I would trust him with my life! I watched the first season of Picard but was utterly disappointed with the last ep. It ridiculed everything that was good about the show. Haven't come around to watching the latest season, I hope it's better. I love the original series (as well as the reboot) and Voyager but never really got into Deep Space Nine or the new Show, Discovery.

Thank you, I get so sad seeing all these fanfics where Gary is the worst guy, like he’s literally an abuser or has always been a toxic person. Which then seems to act like a device for Jim’s character development or trauma maybe? It’s convenient to use his character because we know his fate so we don’t have to care what happens to him. It becomes easy to dismiss him and say he deserved it.

I could be biased about redeeming Gary because I love to ship him with Jim. But I don’t think someone being a bit chauvinistic equates to him being a potential rapist and that is what a lot of stories portray. Some stories also suggest that he was jealous of Jim or resented him but to me it seemed like he just wanted his approval and respect. Otherwise why is he reading the books he knows he might like? Surely he wants to impress him or relate to him.

Some Star Trek books I liked that did a nice/okay job with his character are My Brothers Keeper (a trilogy) and The Captains Oath if you’re interested 👍

This fandom really likes to shit on Gary Mitchell. Really likes to paint him as some kind of “he was always like that” bad guy.

But the episode where we even meet him paints Gary and Jim Kirk as long time friends, as well as former teacher/student. Close enough at least to tease each other. Close enough for Gary to admit he sent the blonde technician (possibly Carol Marcus?) in Jim’s path to distract him because he wasn’t ready for a particular test. Yeah, Jim is shocked (“that was you? I almost married her!”) but he still chuckles about it.

In fact, Gary doesn’t start acting mad and violent until the levels of “strange energy” in his body start rising. Jim’s shock is an indicator (to me) that this is not normal behavior for Gary. Jim does everything to try and save Gary before admitting defeat - he has to get Gary off the ship and kill him. Even this leaves Jim emotionally destroyed. That’s his friend! That’s one of his closest friends!

Anyway, I’m just annoyed that in fanfiction Gary is almost always treated like he deserves his eventual fate, or like he would always have turned violent and power mad - with or without the strange energy affecting and destabilizing him. As someone who knows how crazy destabilizing it can be when your brain chemistry gets royally fucked with, Gary didn’t “deserve” that fate. We have very little evidence that he was always like that or would always have ended up like that if given power. Gary was attacked by a malevolent force and turned into its puppet. Gary doesn’t deserve everyone’s blame and ire. Gary deserved better.
