same anon. do you have ideas for anya and mobilewashing crews dynamics? also what are the cats names :o
i touch on anya and nurse here but i also have an idea of shinsuke and co-captain jim… not sure about swanz or captain yet but we’re getting there
Tumblr media
anya and shinsuke bond over daisuke (coming from @blimbo-buddy’s idea of them being cousins) (im also using their mobilewashing designs) and how he was in both of their lives. while daisuke was only present for a short amount of time in anya’s, she can see how he affected other people and how he was ultimately a good person in the end .
co-captain jim, when finding out about it somehow, does feel for anya’s hesitance and slight fear (? Sort of but im pretty sure there’s a better word for this). like, he’s an asshole but he’s not a total monster, y’know. not like jimmy was anyways. he’s willing to understand because, what the fuck do you mean he crashed the ship and blamed it on the captain? WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE TRIED KILLING EVERYONE ELSE ON THE SHIP?
also this is ridley jones or wilby jones. nurse and anya haven’t decided over it yet. shes their pride and joy and she loves running into walls and screaming at sticks
they also later adopted another cat who turned out to be riddles’ mother. nurse named her mama cat

Let us pray and honor the life of Mouthwash: Space Tragedy. Here for so little time, yet changed so many lives. Its presence on the App Store and in our hearts will always live on even though it has been taken from us. We will remember the words of praise the people had on it. Let us give it a moment of silence

can you watch him while i go to the store… he should behave no problems at all
Oh yeah sure thing! He seems mentally sound and doesn't look like he'd make drastic decisions to protect his unhealthy attachments to people! I actually got a few lil' guys for him to play with, I'll just let them play around in the cockpit for a bit!

the whole thing with captain crashing the ship to stay with his “family” reminds me of towards the end of the game with curly on fire and he says “i want to go home” to which jimmy replies “we are home.” it’s a neat parrelel. paralel. parelleel. captain is home because he’s with his “family” and that is all that matters. do you see the vision
Oh absolutely and I fuck with it so much. I'd really like to have the Mobilewashing rewrite characters (the main crew) be sort of narrative foils to the original Mouthwashing characters while also doing a bit more with 'em, their characters, and suggested backgrounds
A recent video I saw rightfully dunking on the mobile game is that it actually shows the ending where Jim Co-Pilot sends Captain off into an emergency escape pod to Earth, but not before having an entire monologue about how Captain was far too good "For this miserable crew". I may figure out a way to incorporate that into the rewrite because I had ideas before seeing the ending (At the time nobody who played the mobile game made it to the end because it's a broken piece of shit) but we'll see.
It'd be interesting if I go this route though because it'd also parallel the ending to the original game.
Curly wanted to go home to Earth but Jimmy damned him to stay frozen in that cryo-pod on the ship for who knows how long.
Captain wants to stay on the ship with his "family" and never return to Earth but Jim Co-Pilot sends him into an emergency escape pod back to Earth and away from the crew
Much to think about here. But again I'l need to put down some more proper rough drafts on paper and figure things out

You're too late, I've sent in my horde of Captains into your home and now they don't want to leave

fun fact that I might have mentioned before: Captain’s role in the Mobilewashing au was going to be a full on villain even after the crash. This characterization was more in common with how he is in the original game while also being inspired by Rule #44: Badger when it came into my recommended
This idea got scrapped as I started to think of him in a far more sympathetic light because I couldn’t think of a proper reason for why he crashed the ship within this original concept

Wait I got one more post before I hop off. Got a growing song list for my Mobilewashing AU that does not take good song/tonal transitions in mind because these were added as I went
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I start developing the other characters in the au they'll be added too
Some of these have a deeper meaning (Mainly for the characters) but also there's ones that I felt just fit based on vibe

I fuck with the idea of Nurse (and Captain) being robots hence why they have no real names but to keep my own rewrite as grounded in reality as possible I’m likely just gonna make Nurse seem robotic to the others in her behavior

what are the captain's motivations for crashing the ship in your rewrite? upon rewatching a walkthrough of the mobile game i felt it was implied it had something to do with how no one on the crew besides maybe the nurse seemed to really like or respect him/jim outright bullying him, and since you've given me an excuse to think about these characters in depth i'm curious
I would actually like to keep a bit of that whole “Jim bullying him” & “Nurse seeming to be the only one to really care about him” thing in just a teeny bit. But generally I have a rough idea that for sure I’m going to do a lot of reworking to based on where the story goes
And that’s the idea of tackling the subject matter of how companies refer to themselves like a family and (likely) subsequently tackling the family unit’s endorsed/ignored downsides and criticizing both instances mentioned. I do also want to do this as a tiny jab at the mw fandom's insertion of the characters into family dynamics
For whatever reason, Captain has a lot of attachment to the concept that his Crew is his family, his people to “love and protect and stay together with” . To be their papa bear.
This comes from one of the company’s motto's that, “A crew is like a family, love and help them like it!”
Perhaps he has some horrible attachment issues on top of this
I may also suggest that Earth is having a lot of layoff problems with jobs and the company they work for is no different
Maybe a second predicted great depression but that'll have to be figured out a bit. Life just isn't good back on Earth
In the case for the company though, a mass layoff will ensue that affects thousands of workers. This is what Captain is informed of by HR
Captain doesn’t know who will be laid off, including himself
But… the risk is too high
He doesn’t care if it was just him, but he knows that some, if not all of his crew is at risk of losing their jobs
It’s too many people that are predicted to be fired from the company…He seems them out in the streets. Cold, hungry, scared, alone. Without family.
His crew is at risk, his family will be torn apart. A father in this situation needs to take control.
He was always taking control. No matter how much his crew hated it all, he needed to control it all to keep them safe.
His crew may not like him they may even hate him, but they’d be safe
More importantly, they’d be together
But… he can’t financially support them all. He can’t help them all. God, no. It’s all going wrong; this wasn’t how it was supposed to be. He would do anything for his crew, anything to stay together with them. Forever.
He sees on the screen ahead of him in the cockpit that the ship detects a nearing asteroid belt
It could lead to, at best, horrid injuries and damage. At worst, mass death of the crew
The computer’s autopilot redirects the ship’s course to avoid the belt and ensure they all head back to Earth
.....
Autopilot disengaged
I also have a rough draft idea in mind for this already rough draft character that these anxieties and fears pre-crash are exemplified by someone finding solace in his company and admitting that they never felt very accomplished, that things back on earth aren’t what they’re cracked up to be and they wonder how they’ll keep going in the current state that the world’s heading in.
I don’t know who would be telling Captain this, but it may actually be Nurse because as you mentioned, Nurse is suggested to at least tolerate Captain since she actually wanted to throw the party for him.
Though I would need to figure out how that fits into her character. I have some rough ideas but it’ll be hard when I already have a version of her in my mind that makes her more reserved (which is why she doesn’t share her actual name)
I'd also like to note that, had the song not been about romance, Breezeblocks by Alt-J would have been a perfect song to describe Captain. But alas

Idea for Captain from Mobilewashing. What if he never takes the astronaut suit off, because he doesn't have a life outside of the space ship. He's just the Captain. Only the Captain.
older ask but here we go: When I got this ask it actually made me consider that idea for him. And is a major inspiration for my later characterization of him as being a man who cannot separate a multitude of concepts, places, people and things from one another. He cannot separate himself from his role as captain, because That cannot be separated from Canary Cargo. And CC is where he has his “family” aka his crew. He cannot separate those two concepts from each other: he cannot separate himself from his family, his life.
A concept I’m thinking about right now, in contrast between him and Curly, is that we never get to see his face; not his full face at least. I have to figure this one out a little more with symbolic meaning and what have you. Right now though I’m still in a rough stage where I’m trying to come up with design ideas for him, I don’t want him to have the Total astronaut look but maybe CC freighter captains have different uniforms to distinguish themselves from the others. As for the helmet itself I’m still unsure of its purpose or place.
One idea I have is that it’s a childhood item: This could connect to how Captain is still tethered to childish outlooks on the world which includes people
Another idea is that the helmet itself is a piece of technology provided by Canary Cargo: This could connect to Captain’s inability -and even disregard- to separate himself from the company
I’ll still have to work through some things though so I’m always open for suggestions
I have a lot of connections with Captain and space in general which came from the astronaut thing. I think he was a kid obsessed with the stars and space

Going to get to the rest of the asks in a minute but in the mean time, here's a basic idea of how tall the mobilewashing au crew is (more characters to be added of course)
Captain's height might be changed around a bit but this is a general idea
Yes Jim Co-Pilot is actually that tall he's just very hunched over all the time
Here's the website I found if anyone wants to use it

To me, Captain in the mouthwash space tragedy au is like the bird whose nest has fallen victim to an intruder. It counted four eggs but now it counts five; and they hatch, and the largest, the loudest, is the first to feed from it. And it does not notice the fear in its other baby’s eyes, it feels fear in its home but pins it on outer forces.
It does not think it’s rooted from within the home, that would mean it comes from the family and therefore comes from it as a parent. The big chick cries to it the loudest, it’s the first to come to it when it’s time to eat, that is love of family. It cannot see the environment of fear and tension it has let grow. It tries to ease its other children, it tries to create normalcy in the fear the children feel. They seem safe, Captain is happy.

So anyways with that in mind I think that Harpy Hare fits the character of Captain from my Mobilewashing Au/Rewrite amazingly
I feel like if the song fits the media/character(s) enough perfectly, it shouldn’t matter if it’s one of those “cringy popular bad songs”

This birthday party is going to fucking suck, I'd rather crash the ship and kill us all
Mouthwash: Space Tragedy fanart except I drew them all closer to their in-game designs
