I CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT THAT BAD GAME
#Mobilewashing#Mouthwashing#the listerine game#hey you and me both op it’s so bad but unfortunately I like dogshit media#(is also a warrior cats fan)#I like the tiny implication in the game that Captain did all that because his crew was mean to him#like Jim Co-Pilot was really going at him at his own birthday lmao#Jim co-pilot Mobilewashing#Captain Mobilewashing

the whole thing with captain crashing the ship to stay with his “family” reminds me of towards the end of the game with curly on fire and he says “i want to go home” to which jimmy replies “we are home.” it’s a neat parrelel. paralel. parelleel. captain is home because he’s with his “family” and that is all that matters. do you see the vision
Oh absolutely and I fuck with it so much. I'd really like to have the Mobilewashing rewrite characters (the main crew) be sort of narrative foils to the original Mouthwashing characters while also doing a bit more with 'em, their characters, and suggested backgrounds
A recent video I saw rightfully dunking on the mobile game is that it actually shows the ending where Jim Co-Pilot sends Captain off into an emergency escape pod to Earth, but not before having an entire monologue about how Captain was far too good "For this miserable crew". I may figure out a way to incorporate that into the rewrite because I had ideas before seeing the ending (At the time nobody who played the mobile game made it to the end because it's a broken piece of shit) but we'll see.
It'd be interesting if I go this route though because it'd also parallel the ending to the original game.
Curly wanted to go home to Earth but Jimmy damned him to stay frozen in that cryo-pod on the ship for who knows how long.
Captain wants to stay on the ship with his "family" and never return to Earth but Jim Co-Pilot sends him into an emergency escape pod back to Earth and away from the crew
Much to think about here. But again I'l need to put down some more proper rough drafts on paper and figure things out
#blimbo rambles#ask#the listerine game#Captain isn't really a bad guy. In the og mobile game he sort of takes that role of villain#but here he's just. sad. what caused him to read a company motto from a cartoon mascot about how 'your crew is like your family'#and become *so* attached to the idea that he tried killing himself and everybody on board#(rhetorical question here)#he made a decision that ultimately in the end fucked over his crew/''family''#mobilewashing#Captain Mobilewashing#mobilewashing au

I fuck with the idea of Nurse (and Captain) being robots hence why they have no real names but to keep my own rewrite as grounded in reality as possible I’m likely just gonna make Nurse seem robotic to the others in her behavior
#blimbo rambles#the listerine game#Mobilewashing#nurse mobilewashing#Captain Mobilewashing#She’s a little strange and talks funny. Honestly I also kind of found inspiration in baymax’s character

what are the captain's motivations for crashing the ship in your rewrite? upon rewatching a walkthrough of the mobile game i felt it was implied it had something to do with how no one on the crew besides maybe the nurse seemed to really like or respect him/jim outright bullying him, and since you've given me an excuse to think about these characters in depth i'm curious
I would actually like to keep a bit of that whole “Jim bullying him” & “Nurse seeming to be the only one to really care about him” thing in just a teeny bit. But generally I have a rough idea that for sure I’m going to do a lot of reworking to based on where the story goes
And that’s the idea of tackling the subject matter of how companies refer to themselves like a family and (likely) subsequently tackling the family unit’s endorsed/ignored downsides and criticizing both instances mentioned. I do also want to do this as a tiny jab at the mw fandom's insertion of the characters into family dynamics
For whatever reason, Captain has a lot of attachment to the concept that his Crew is his family, his people to “love and protect and stay together with” . To be their papa bear.
This comes from one of the company’s motto's that, “A crew is like a family, love and help them like it!”
Perhaps he has some horrible attachment issues on top of this
I may also suggest that Earth is having a lot of layoff problems with jobs and the company they work for is no different
Maybe a second predicted great depression but that'll have to be figured out a bit. Life just isn't good back on Earth
In the case for the company though, a mass layoff will ensue that affects thousands of workers. This is what Captain is informed of by HR
Captain doesn’t know who will be laid off, including himself
But… the risk is too high
He doesn’t care if it was just him, but he knows that some, if not all of his crew is at risk of losing their jobs
It’s too many people that are predicted to be fired from the company…He seems them out in the streets. Cold, hungry, scared, alone. Without family.
His crew is at risk, his family will be torn apart. A father in this situation needs to take control.
He was always taking control. No matter how much his crew hated it all, he needed to control it all to keep them safe.
His crew may not like him they may even hate him, but they’d be safe
More importantly, they’d be together
But… he can’t financially support them all. He can’t help them all. God, no. It’s all going wrong; this wasn’t how it was supposed to be. He would do anything for his crew, anything to stay together with them. Forever.
He sees on the screen ahead of him in the cockpit that the ship detects a nearing asteroid belt
It could lead to, at best, horrid injuries and damage. At worst, mass death of the crew
The computer’s autopilot redirects the ship’s course to avoid the belt and ensure they all head back to Earth
.....
Autopilot disengaged
I also have a rough draft idea in mind for this already rough draft character that these anxieties and fears pre-crash are exemplified by someone finding solace in his company and admitting that they never felt very accomplished, that things back on earth aren’t what they’re cracked up to be and they wonder how they’ll keep going in the current state that the world’s heading in.
I don’t know who would be telling Captain this, but it may actually be Nurse because as you mentioned, Nurse is suggested to at least tolerate Captain since she actually wanted to throw the party for him.
Though I would need to figure out how that fits into her character. I have some rough ideas but it’ll be hard when I already have a version of her in my mind that makes her more reserved (which is why she doesn’t share her actual name)
I'd also like to note that, had the song not been about romance, Breezeblocks by Alt-J would have been a perfect song to describe Captain. But alas
#blimbo rambles#ask#the listerine game#I'm going to make a tag for this soon. not just rewrite stuff but general stuff pertaining to the game#I will admit though that I had a bunch of ideas bouncing around in my brain#want to mention that I may make it canon to the rewrite that it takes place in the same universe as the og game it's a ripoff of#this is why I included the part about likely some kind of second predicted great depression#because it's also my own interpretation of the og plot of the company filing for bankruptcy#(Though it might not be a total Great Depression just a massive job layoff thing by various companies)#it is kinda funny though. to think of the idea that in the og mobile game that captain crashed the ship because his crew hated him#''my crew doesn't like me time to kill myself and everyone on board''#Mobilewashing#Captain Mobilewashing#mobilewashing au

Oh and also I got these drawings of the Mobilewashing crew made in between two finals. Didn’t want to draw all their features so. Strange blobs it is then
#blimmy art#Mobilewashing#Jim co-pilot Mobilewashing#nurse Mobilewashing#Swanz Mobilewashing#Shinsuke Mobilewashing#Hey-o there’s their character tags!#I think Captain is orange but I didn’t have a regular highlighter yellow for Swanz#They’re all stressed as fuck but you would be too if you were one of the only survivors after a crash#the listerine game#technically it’s related#These were also just a bit from memory hence why Jim’s hair looks a tad bit different#mobilewashing au

Thought of some little facts for the characters in the Mobilewashing rewrite. Some of these may or may not be changed
Nobody knows Nurse’s real name. Not even Captain knows, somehow. When she got her employee card printed out there was an error and all that came out was “Nurse”, she made them give the card to her. If you ask her what her name is she just tells you “I am a nurse, you know me as a nurse, so I am Nurse to you.”
Swanz has been divorced for nearly 10 years, but him and his ex-wife wanted to try and discuss everything and hopefully try again now that he’d been sober for a long while now and doing better. Swanz is also not his real name
Shinsuke has a cousin from the West coast who is younger than him by 3 hours. They both started their internship around the same time too! Shinsuke forgot the name of the company his cousin works for though… something about a horse mascot?
Jim Co-Pilot’s real name is Jameson but he refuses to go by it, opting for the hundreds of annoying nicknames given to him. Anger management stress toys also never work for him, they always end up popped or shredded or completely destroyed
Captain is so, so very Australian and considers [Company Name] (An Australian company) to be his pride and joy as a fellow Australian. He also managed to get Swanz a position at the company as a ship mechanic since he knew him for some time
#blimbo rambles#the listerine game#if you guys got questions or thoughts about these feel free to shoot me an ask#I'll likely make a post with other facts about the characters specifically#cause I do got a good few of them#will also be getting a tag set up for the rewrite and generally just the game soon#mobilewashing#nurse Mobilewashing#Swanz Mobilewashing#Shinsuke Mobilewashing#Jim co-pilot Mobilewashing#Captain Mouthwashing#mobilewashing au

Mobilewashing Character Rewrite Fun Facts Part 2 (View Part 1 here):
Nurse
Despite her buff appearance, she actually doesn’t care for working out as a hobby, it’s more of a way to get her energy out
Many aspects of her character (especially design) were based on Sigourney Weaver’s role as Ellen Ripley
She’s had multiple hobbies and jobs in the past but found joy in none of them
It’s not uncommon for her to skip a meal on accident, she gets very into her tasks
She wants to try getting into fishing after this shipment haul
Swanz
He hates the taste of alcohol and would much rather drink virgin cocktails/margaritas
After the divorce, he lived in his car for some time before meeting Captain
He’s owned the same pair of sneakers for the last 12 years. He takes good care of them though
Birds are his favorite animal
His decision to go sober came after an opioid overdose
Often kept an eye on by the medical staff of the freighter
Shinsuke
His spice tolerance is through the roof, it’s only fitting that his favorite foods are all spicy
He got his earrings after purposefully losing a bet
The fingerless gloves he wears lets him chew his fingernails easier. Nurse hates this
Solving puzzles is his favorite pastime, he brought plenty of puzzle games/toys with him onto the ship
He begged his parents for a mechanic internship at the company because he loves mechanical stuff. They were anxious about it but eventually let him apply
Jim Co-Pilot
He’s banned from his local gym for batting someone in the ribs with a pull-down bar
Cowboy western movies and shows are his favorite
He wants to save up for some nice cowboy boots since his current pair are shitty ones
The sight of any sort of injuries makes him feel sick, bruises are the worst for him (he’s thrown up at least one time during each haul because of this)
He’s really trying his best to manage his anger issues and has been given various pamphlets, magazines, music, etc. to help control it
#blimbo rambles#the listerine game#mobilewashing#sorry about no Captain facts. I mentioned it early today but I wasn't able to think of any for him in time upon editing#addiction tw#overdose tw#just because of Swanz's facts#nurse Mobilewashing#Swanz Mobilewashing#Shinsuke Mobilewashing#Jim co-pilot Mobilewashing#mobilewashing au

*covered in blood* working on my captain design… honestly i could see a scenario where he is the on ai on the ship. kind of like in dbh where the bots are treated like garbage because they’re just bots and not ‘people’ i feel like captain being treated like a person for the first time by his crewmates would make him cling even more to this “family” of his. i’m bad at explaining. do you see the vision…
Oh my god dude that is a dope concept. He’s an AI, he isn’t supposed to feel attachment like this towards them all, he has no real name and yet they still call him Captain. He gives daily news to them of the status of the trip, but he catches himself engaging in conversation with them. Why do his circuits feel so warm? Had they always felt this way and he just never noticed? Why is he so, so quick to alert everybody of any tiny malfunction with such… violent urgency? It’s to protect them yes, but it feels different this time.
He feels happy, he feels a deeply personal and warm bond towards them all. He feels he needs to protect them all from any harm, save them from Earth. To save his crew family Crew Family Crew FAMILY
Also just spewing this out but it gave me this one idea now of the crew just not paying much attention or much mind towards Captain because at the end of the day he’s AI, he’s smart and is very much aware but he’s still not really a person. To be honest I got less DBH vibes and more of Hal 9000 from this own concept(part of the reason being my strange feelings of how dbh handled its themes). That kind of ties itself a little more to how the crew originally treats him in the game though which still makes me chuckle to high hell
Poor AI wants to stay with his family- time to crash the ship in a murder-suicide attempt hoorah!

Mobilewashing could have been about the new artificial intelligence that has started to become implemented into freighter ships to replace regular workers, only for things to get fucked up when the "ai captain" redirects the ship off course. And the whole time during being stranded it's just the ai voices talking to each other also Shinsuke should be the only human on that ship because you gotta at least have a backup mechanic in the flesh
#blimbo rambles#mobilewashing#the listerine game#remember when there was that line in the actual game suggesting that workers in a bunch of hauling companies were being replaced#could be a cool concept to follow with another hauling company I think#anyways#''I'm sorry shinsuke. but I'm afraid I can't do that''

if there’s one thing I will be very clear about the Mobilewashing Rewrite is that, at no point, will I suggest that Captain’s disabilities are his punishment, as the original ripoff game horribly claims. His disabilities aren’t going to be written as his retribution or “Just Desserts”.
#blimbo rambles#Disability as a punishment needs to be fucking dropped#suggesting that becoming disabled is a punishment for a character shows how the writer#Views the disabled#no matter what it may be. It’s dehumanizing

actually here’s a ranking of which duo would have the most beef between each other based on my rewriting of Mobilewashing from least aggressive to most aggressive
5. Shinsuke and Daisuke: I headcanon them to be cousins in my rewrite of the mobile game, they’ve been nearly glued to each other from the beginning and despite living in Florida and California respectively they talk so much on face time. People think they’re brothers with how close to each other they are. The most beef they get into is typical family stuff but also the fact that Daisuke is more out there and that causes a bit of push back from Shinsuke sometimes
4. Nurse and Anya: No bad blood between these two I’d imagine. Though Anya may be a tad bit (okay maybe secretly super) jealous of Nurse’s incredible medical capabilities and the fact that Nurse got into medical school on her first try (she mad as hell). A lot of it would be one-sided on Anya’s end but I would say that Nurse just feels bad for her, she’s trying and trying and yet keeps failing but she keeps trying, kind of sad to her, lot of accidental pity. I think they’d be good friends beyond that though, nothing more to say
3. Captain and Curly: Originally was going to put them at spot 2 but I think Curly would just feel really bad for Captain and not hold ill will towards him. Like Captain tried crashing the ship to stay with a bunch of people who he saw as family. Of course that doesn’t excuse the attempted murder-suicide and Curly is rightfully scared and scornful of it but there’s a deep sense of pity in the back of his mind. That’s really how it is with these two, pity. Captain would have more of an angry pity though because “What do you mean you’re trying to ‘work on your life being a place you don't have to fucking escape’? Isn’t your crew enough? They’re like family for god’s sake!”.
2. Swanz and Swansea: So they’re not super aggressive towards each other like how the number 1 spot duo is, but they’re like if you stuck the two angry as fuck uncles in the same room. Swanz often has a very “I don’t give a fuck do whatever” attitude about being a mechanic and Swansea is a little more strict on making sure that you stick to like, safety precautions and teaching the basics. Swansea sees that Swanz lets Shinsuke walk around heavy machinery with open toed sandals with socks and flips the fuck out
Swansea, red as a ripe tomato: “What do you MEAN you’ve been just lettin’ your goddamn intern walk around HUGE MACHINES AND PIPES this WHOLE TIME with SANDALS. And then you BARELY teach him JACK SHIT and expect him to know what every little fuckin’ wire does instantly? Are you trying to get everybody killed in a freak accident?! The fuck is wrong with you this is the most irresponsible shit I’ve seen, and I thought Pony Express hired some dumbasses waitin’ to be carried out in a body bag. Do you want that kid killed or somethin’, just wanting to get charged with manslaughter or some shit? God you’re givin’ me a big ass headache I can’t stand you”
Swanz who has been blacking out this whole time: “M’yuh-huh”
needless to say, Swansea thinks that Swanz is an irresponsible jackass and Swanz is winning the “I don’t give a fuck” war. This is as best as I can explain it. However there's still a level of respect between the two and I think they cut each other a bit of slack due to some shared background in addiction. I think they like to joke that their interns got swapped on accident
Jim Co-Pilot and Jimmy:
Curly and Captain get into a heated argument over whether snow sports (Curly) or beach sports (Captain) are better. Gone wrong gone violent cops called
#blimbo rambles#self rb#mobilewashing#the listerine game#gonna make a rewrite/au tag for mobilewashing soon actually
