Finally got me one of these here communicators! This will make communicating with ports a lot easier, I hope.
The name here's Captain Lannery Storm, though plenty of folks call me Slippery Storm instead. All the same to me. I'm the commander of my very own Storm Fleet, but I support Admiral Brass's efforts to get us our own governance. There's nothing better for me and my crew than sailing, exploration, and the freedom that the seas bring.
Currently I'm in charge of the merchant vessels that the Admiral's having us send out, but at least that gets the wind in my hair and the salty sea air in my lungs again.
I'm looking forward to seeing who else has access to these neat little things!

“Rrraarraghh!”
“Oh, I know! That one has such pretty scales!”
“Quiet back there!”
Captain Lannery Storm glared over her shoulder at her first mate - a shapeshifter currently stuck between the form of a human and raptor. What caught her attention was not their mismatched body, however, but rather the Sun Empire shaman marveling at the changeling’s bright blue coloration.
“How did you sneak up on us?” the captain hissed angrily.
“What do you mean?” asked the man. “Your friend here invited me along. Isn’t that right?”
“Grrraghhagh!” screeched the half-raptor.
Lannery’s eye twitched.
“Yes, I was skeptical at first, too. Perhaps this meeting was a trap? But as it turns out, we have something in common; I also like to channel the forms of our dinosaurs from time to time. Observe!”
The shaman waved his hands in a motion akin to the flapping wings of a pterodon. As he did so, a harsh red light enveloped him, in the approximate shape of the dinosaur in question.
“Majestic, no?”
While the shapeshifter eagerly nodded their snout, Lannery was less enthusiastic. Again her eye twitched as she drew her cutlass.
“Clear out of here.”
“Wait, what? Why-”
“GET LOST!”
“But I live here.”
“It’s a figure of…Just leave!”
“Well I can’t just idle by while…” The shaman trailed off as the point of Lannery’s blade tapped gently against his gut. “While…you go on your merry way! I have to help my new friend.”
“I wouldn’t let you join if you pointed us right to all the gold on this island! Come on, we’re leaving!”
Lannery waved to her first mate, only for them to plant their still-human feet in defiance.
“Rrrgghhrrgh!”
“…I don’t speak raptor, but that tone sounds like mutiny!” Lannery growled.
The shapeshifter pointed to their new friend, who pumped his fist in excitement.
“It certainly does,” smirked the shaman. “I speak a little raptor. And they won’t follow you unless you let me along as well. So, I guess this situation resolved itself!”
Lannery’s eye twitched one final time.

[Like I’ve said before, it’s always nice to see some non-nefarious shapeshifters. Also, Ixalan was just a really cool set in general!]

Aoidi inhaled deeply. "I don't know what a shaper is, but it sounds akin to what Keranos's priests often did. But no, our primary concern would be triton raids as we sailed. The good news is, the merchant ships coming from Ixalan mean that pirates ironically won't be a problem. Some of our local pirates made the mistake of picking a fight with one Captain Lannery Storm. Since she...dealt with them, there hasn't been any trouble for ships coming from other ships."
"But they stick further south in the sea," Menea reminded Aoidi. "So we may not have the...mixed blessing of Coalition ships around. They know to keep away from this island thanks to my sister."
Drink Deeply
Menea was not surprised that Aoidi was waiting outside of the cave instead of going in. She never entered unless Menea was there, after all. Aoidi, like the other Champions, was rightly uneasy about Hythonia. In the siren's arms were several large, folded pieces of fabric and some odds and ends to secure them once they were put on.
"What's that?" Aoidi asked, nodding towards the three bottles in Menea's arms.
"If Mother is correct, it's a way to keep our friend fed," Menea said, slithering past Aoidi and hearing her fall silently into step behind her and to the right. It was easier for Menea to make her way over and around the statues than it was for Aoidi, who had to dart around almost like she was going through a maze.
They made it to the fabric that sectioned off the cavern that was once Eriope's room. Menea gently pushed it aside and headed in first, her long tail behind her as she comfortably curled into the room. Aoidi remained outside at first, just in case this did not go well.
Mavren was stirring on the klinē. Menea took a moment to assess his wings, splayed out off of the piece of furniture and onto the floor. He hadn't torn into himself during his rest, so she wouldn't have to bind his hands to protect him from himself.
"Mavren," she said, keeping her voice soft. She held out one of the bottles to offer it to him. "I need you to try drinking this and tell me how you feel afterwards."

Howdy. I'm Jasper, a nonbinary aroace menace, they/them pronouns. I'm an adult.
This is my main blog, so you get a bunch of bullshit, my fandoms, my fanfiction, my interactions with my mutuals, and sometimes stuff on the spicy end. We get weird here.
Before You Follow
I am an adult. If following an adult bothers you, please feel free to block me for your sake.
I engage in fiction to deal with things, or because I want to. I don't care how "pure" it is, we're refusing to give purity culture a platform here. I also write some stuff that leans into being fucked up.
I'm queer as hell and we use microlabels here. I love people with neopronouns.
I'm also a polytheist. And a furry. And an occultist. And also big into scorpion biology. Gods, I know so much stuff about scorpion biology now.

[The only contents of this post is a single picture. Captain Lannery Storm has taken a selfie in front of a petrified bloodletter after graffitiing "ACLAZOTZ SUCKS LMAO" across it's spread wing. Captain Storm is also giving a two-finger peace sign that she picked up from the Kamigawa parts of the communication network.]

“Captain Storm! More of them, coming from the canals!”
The pirates drew their weapons and shouted taunts down at the merfolk emerging from the water. The River Heralds held formation, not falling for the bait, and stopped while still waist-high in the canal. One of the shamans waded past his fellows’ spears of sparkling jade, and began berating the buccaneers.
“Orazca is not a mere treasure chest, ready for you to plunder. It is a source of culture, of magic! How dare you disrespect this city so!”
Captain Lannery Storm rolled her eyes, presumably aimed at the noble speech. “You sure love doing that, huh?” she groaned theatrically.
“What, protesting your heinous actions?” the shaman asked proudly.
“Huh? Oh, no, I meant popping out of the water.”
“Oh.” The shaman glanced over his shoulder at the canal he and his group had traversed. “Well, we are merfolk, after all.”
Lannery rolled her eyes. “I’m just saying, you lot sure have been doing that a…a lotAnyways, heh, you sure you didn’t invade alongside everyone else just to have more water to jump out of?”
“Well, I-I never!” the shaman huffed defensively. “What an absurd accusation! As well as an incredibly petty thing to invade over!”
Lannery shrugged. “Well, you clearly don’t use gold, just from looking at you. And I feel like water breathing is a pretty earth-shattering power already. So, why else exactly would you-”
“E-Enough!” cried the shaman. “We will not stand here and listen to you mock us any longer!”
The merfolk surged forward. Lannery raised her hand to call for a charge of her own, but paused at the last second. She grinned back at her fellow pirates.
“So,” she muttered, “we’re all thinking that, they totally just want to jump out of the water, right?”
The buccaneers all cheered. Satisfied, Lannery brought down her hand, and charged alongside her crew to meet the River Heralds.

[In peacetime, the River Heralds often have contests among themselves to see who can surface the most gracefully. While their forces invading Orazca indeed didn’t want the other factions to have the magical MacGuffin Immortal Sun, a lot of them were also really anticipating all the new bodies of water they could use! And a few of those…got their priorities switched around.]

Kari Zev Deck Tech -- Ladies Breaking Things
You love her and her little monkey friend. And swinging in for three is all well and good but haven’t you always felt you could get more value? Or at least that you could get a whole lot sillier with the skyship raider? Good, cause you can.
This is a sac fodder build that sparked from the idea of trying to get a little more service from the faithful if foolish Ragavan. Things fired off by considering how we could get more out of the little monkey, and then what else we could grab value from.
Makeshift Munitions was my go to. Swing in for damage, then after combat damage but before the end of combat trigger resolves to exile Ragavan, sacrifice him to Makeshift Munitions for another bit of damage. Or if he’s blocked, you could always sacrifice him before combat damage if that point of damage would be more useful elsewhere. Dark-Dweller Oracle can also turk the monkey into additional value. But if we’re looking at sac fodder and things to do with it in red, we can do a lot more.
We’ve got a healthy selection of potential sac fodder or stuff that will make sac fodder: Treasure Keeper, Captain Lannery Storm, Wily Goblin, Brazen Freebooter, Gleaming Barrier, Treasure Map, Warcry Phoenix, Implement of Conbustion, Squee, the Immortal, Rekindling Phoenix, Tilonalli’s Summoner, Mishra’s Self-Replicator, Servo Schematic, Whirlermaker, and Golden Guardian are all things we might sacrifice or which will make things to be sacrificed.
The best part about treasure tokens is that they can be sacrificed to most of our effects but they can also be used to pay mana costs and ramp into better spells or get more activations on things like Makeshift Munitions.
Since we’ll have a lot of artifacts, I’m also tossing in Orcish Vandal, Embraal Gear-Smasher, and Pia Nalaar as sac outlets. And most often our sacrifices are being turned into damage right at our opponent’s face. Siege-Gang Commander and Skirk Prospector also do good work even though we don’t really have a whole lot of goblins in this deck.
That covers the main strategy for this Kari Zev deck; pillage and burn. Aside from that, we’ll flesh things out by fueling us into late game when we need to and trying to pull even more value from the sac strategy. I want Pia’s Revolution, Conqueror’s Galleon, Decoction Module, Guardians of Koilos, Scrap Trawler, Inventor’s Apprentice, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Pirate’s Pillage, and even Karn, Scion of Urza.
Lastly we’ll pack the best red removal we can find; Banfire, Abrade, Repeating Barrage, Insult // Injury, Lightning Strike, Shock, and Hour of Devastation to keep the board clear of threats. Our opponent plays something that those removal spells can’t handle? Well you just have to burn their faces faster. Oh, or pull out Captivating Crew, steal the thing, then sac it to Makeshift Munitions before they get it back.
Toss in 20 mountains and start raiding! I’ll be the first to tell you it’s a little janky, but I never fail to have fun with it. Oh, and if you don’t have them already, you can cut down the cost of building this deck by about $70 just from dropping the two planeswalkers and Rekindling Phoenix. Toss in three more Mountains and you’ll still have fun!

Much to Mavren's dismay, he recognized the much larger ship among the smaller merchant vessels once they made it to the dock. And not only that, but he recognized the grinning pirate woman directing some of her crew to unload some crates.
Captain Lannery Storm turned on her heel and put her hands on her hips when she saw the party approaching. "Well, look what the cat dragged in!" she laughed, though it wasn't a malicious one. "Didn't think I'd ever see the Pontifex himself wearin' the local finery."
Gorgia
Gorgia was small and inland, or at least as far inland as one could get on Skathos. The trio – Menea, Malkonia, and Mavren – were approaching from the north, which was not a common way to visit the town – its disconnected port was off to the southeast behind a rather tall treeline, and Mavren could see the Omenpath to the south from the hills they were coming down. As such, the city was laid out as though someone would approach from the south side of the island. Menea had already informed him that the north part of the island past her sister’s lair was near-untouched wilderness, a reflection of the wild nature of inland Theros.
Snake iconography was prominent throughout Gorgia. The homes were made of stone and had tiled roofs, usually only a single story tall and organized on a grid. A handful were two stories tall, but none were larger than what seemed to be a temple to Pharika at the north end of the village. There was a large, open agora in the center of the town where people mingled and spoke and relaxed. At the south side of town was what seemed to be a bunch of stone steps that served as an open-air theater, in the perfect position to see the Omenpath. Three bloodletters, all petrified, stood by the Omenpath like a disturbing, ever-stationary honor guard.
Most of the population was made of humans, less than a quarter were tritons, and there were a handful of other Therosian races who apparently washed up on the shore or stayed when they came in with merchant vessels. Practically every person living in Gorgia incorporated snake iconography into their clothing in some way, typically in the form of brooches holding their chitons or peplos in place. However, Mavren noticed that there were no other gorgons besides Menea and Malkonia, and no sirens like Aoidi.
Menea was unconcerned with the Omenpath, because her sister had proven her ability to petrify and destroy whatever made its way out. Nor was she concerned about trading for things they would need for the journey, as she had pulled ten large amphoras of honey from her stores; as the only beekeeper on the island, honey was something she could always leverage as trading material in the town if being the Champion of Pharika somehow wasn’t enough. Her focus was, instead, on her niece and on Mavren as she led them through the town and helped them orient themselves to the grid layout of the streets.
Their first stop was a building full of seamstresses who seemed to be talking about simply the hottest gossip, because Mavren needed more clothes for travel – namely perizomata and a himation for travel to protect him from shriveling up like a damn raisin and cover his wings – and Menea had two large amphoras’ worth of honey to trade in exchange. Menea ended up joining the gossip circle as one of the seamstresses helped Malkonia and another who seemed a bit out of place came to assist Mavren.

Have we ever seen the Khan or Alara tri colors with the focal color NOT being say, Black for Grixis? I'll use Captain Lannery Storm as an example: is she BLACK/red/blue purely because she is Grixis color pie?
I would say we see it more obviously in the Wedges than the Shards.
The Khans of Tarkir Wedges were deliberately off-center. For instance, the Jeskai were centered in blue, while Numot, the Devastator is centered in red.
It’s less obvious in Shards because the central color is an ally of the other two rather than an enemy.
From a purely flavorful perspective, I would also argue that Becket Brass is centered in blue or red, rather than black.
