Capra falconeri - CITES Appendix I.
Tumblr media
The Capra falconeri is one of the 1,099 CITES Appendix I-listed animals and plants. Over 40,900 species are protected by CITES against overexploitation through international trade and are listed in the CITES three Appendices according to how threatened they are in international trade. Markhor (Capra falconeri)
Well this one has been a long time coming! This impressive animal is found in mountainous forests of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and is the national animal of the latter. Crossbreeding between goats and markhors is thought to be the origin of several modern goat breeds.
