Space Wolves are funny. See, my GF is named Aurora ("Awoorora") and nicknamed Boof (derrived from "wolf"/"woof"), her wardrobe is like 70% wolf t-shirts, she sleeps in wolf pillow covers and has a tiny wolf pillow in her car, put up a Loona Helluva Boss poster on her wall, wears a leather bracelet with a wolf pawprint metal plate and a silver wolf necklace, likes power/melodic death metal (it's not her favourite but the list does include Powerwolf), has a wolf fursona, adopted at least two shelter dogs in her life, her favourite Zelda game is Twilight Princess (50/50 split between Wolf Link and Midna), she mains Voruna (wolf lady) in Warframe and one of her favourite movies is 2004's "Van Helsing" featuring Hugh Jackman transformed into a giant hairy werewolf - and she's very lukewarm on SWs because "eeeh, they aren't wolf enough" and she doesn't vibe with their lore and role in most storylines. There aren't enough wolf head helmets, and the Wulfen aren't werewolf-ish enough (and to be fair to her they do look like bargain bin Wolverine cosplayers). She actually prefers World Eaters, Night Lords and White Scars as far as Space Marines go and is overall more interested in collecting T'au.
Not even Canis Wolfborn riding a Thunderwolf can pull her in.

Curse of the Wulfen by David Annandale (Book Review)
Curse of the Wulfen by David Annandale (Book Review)
When I first got into Warhammer 40,000 fiction my first stop was Grey Hunter by William King. Odd to start with a third novel in a series for a setting you don’t understand but that’s where I was some fifteen years ago. I was no stranger to this however because when I started on the Animorphs novels by K. A. Applegate, the third novel The Encounter was where I started. And just as then, I fell in…

Gotta love Wolf lord canis wolfborne on thunderwolf supported by his wolf priest and wolf guard terminators riding in a stormwolf
Thought you should know that I finally caved on starting 40k, picked up some space wolves. Seeing you posting about liking it certainly didn't help :)
Nice lol welcome to the party! :) The wolves were the first army I played too back when Lily first started teaching me the game. I don't have them anymore but thunderwolf cavalry will always have a place in my heart.

So I've read most if not all of the Space Wolf novels (both 30k and 40k) and the conclusion that I've come to in regards to having "wolf" used so much in the Chapter is because Fenris is such a primal and isolated planet that no one actually knows or understands the language of Fenris. In the novel Prosper Burns (pages 95-98) the character Kasper Hawser an Imperial Academic goes to Fenris to study the Space Wolves culture; and what he basically learns is that theres two types of languages they speak. Juvkj or the hearth-cant (basically common) and Wurgen (war tongue). It's also explained that no one in the Legion/Chapter refers to themselves as "Space Wolves" instead they go by the Vlka Fenryka or The Rout.
The term Space Wolves is a name that was given to them by off worlders. In both the Horus Heresy and 40k novels, any time they are called the Space Wolves every member of the Legion/Chapter present is described to either visibly cringe at the name or roll their eyes. Its also confirmed that very few people actually come to Fenris. So it would only make sense then that to anyone not native to Fenris wouldn't really understand the language or the translation of that language. Also taking into consideration the bone charms, wolf tail talismans, and such that they adorn their armor and weapons and vehicles with instead of taking the time to learn the Fenrisian language theres most likely a baseline assumption that they name everything after Wolves.
Though the character Canis Wolfborn is a bit much I will admit; though thankfully he very seldom ever speaks in the novels.
a sort of meta-joke from when i asked everybody if the SW are more viking or wolf, and most answers were: 30k=viking/ 40k=wolf.
so in 40k Leman Russ is a dad exhausted by his sons and their obsession with wolves but loves them too much to not be supportive.
ALSO, if you actually want a song thats SW and not wolfy please listen to the Norsk version of Disney Moanas “We know the way”, Leman Russ sang this song and he is so proud and free and is so glad hes feelin 54% less wolfy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB9kz3B3T8s

Finecast: Canis Wolfborn
There are some bubbles here and there, mostly not in obvious places, but the tip of the tongue is missing.. so that will need to be resculpted with green stuff at some point...
