"We're finally on the field, we've had quite a run--" "Immigrants, we get the job done!"
American founding father musical x green triangle cosmic horror ttrpg was not on my 2024 bingo card but, uh, sorry LMAO I kept looping Hamilton during my internship and both Finan and Gavrill/Hrothgar are Canadian immigrants, sooooo...
I've been so busy, I first made the file for this drawing on 29 Aug and only finished it exactly a month later. But I've only really worked on it in the past few days, how embarassing :') process shots and a bit of rambling are under the cut!
The original idea was to have the background white, but then I accidentally inverted the white bits of the background which made it go black, and I thought it looked pretty cool! This was really a trust-the-process drawing, too. The lines are nice, but I wasn't really feeling it until I accidentally made the background black LOL
Both guys are wielding the guns they use the most in the game. Gavrill has a RPK-74 Kalashnikov (light automatic rifle with 10% lethality, something he's used to from fighting in Chechen wars), while Finan has an SPAS-12 (shotgun, model made by Griefyn on Sketchfab).
Finan 🤝 Gavrill dubiously straight male wifeguys who immigrated from an Islamic region to Canada for a better life only to end up working at an organisation that fights the Unnatural, lose their partner who's firecly skilled in a field of study (and their partners' lost is a part of a bigger conspiracy), wear wedding band(s) to commemorate said partner, never properly processed their grief and guilt so it turns into some flavour of obsession, are/were pretty depressed ngl without being mechanically depressed, but pretend everything's fine with their immediate family. I swear they are different characters LMAO
Also, I worked on this in Indonesia, Canada, and on the flight from the latter to the former (sponsored by The White Vault). Packing my bigass screen tablet away while the plane was suddenly hit with wild turbulene was NOOOT fun HAHA I'm telling you, my bag and I were some centimeteres off the air before I crashed to the ground so hard, I was forced on my knee (and the seatbelt light was off before that lmao)

i guess i'm a touch late but,
2023 was a truly amazing year for me. i feel so blessed to be healthy and alive and experiencing the beauty in the world in spite of all the setbacks i've had over the years.
i was able to travel to canada and see the breathtaking rocky mountains three times this year. my wife was able to visit with me as well, and two of my best friends from out of state traveled down to visit me/us over the summer. our immigration decision will be handed down very soon, and we will finally be able to close this difficult chapter of our lives for good.
my brother and sister-in-law blessed our family with another child over the summer and he is precious in every way. my niece continues to be a joy to watch grow and engage with the world. i got a better job, with much higher pay, a wonderful team of coworkers, and a very generous work-life balance. i picked up running again this year, feeling finally healthy enough to move my body in ways i hadn't been able to in an entire decade, and even started racing again. i'm running a marathon in april with some friends. i go to the gym at work every weekday. i have been hiking and snowboarding. i've taken up learning the irish language, i've re-committed to learning how to draw, and i've been making and maintaining healthy habits slowly over the year. i have friends i see regularly and most days i forget my computer even exists, which is surreal to me as someone who used to be extremely dependent on, probably addicted to, social media and video games as escapism.
my mental health is practically perfect, not even a whisper of depression or anxiety, thanks entirely to my diet, which has in turn allowed an upward spiral of productivity and genuine living that has driven me past merely not being ill, into the territory of being near-constantly joyful and deeply at peace with myself.
i got a tattoo which has become a source of confidence and assurance, a small but bold reminder that i am strong enough to be true to myself and live my life honestly and for the benefit of my family and community. i have brought healing to many people this year and my hope is that the effects continue to ripple outwards into the world over and over.
nearly nothing bad happened to me or my loved ones in 2023. it was easily the best year of my life and i genuinely believe 2024 will be even better. normally i'd cry out not to jinx it, but i believe it will be better because i am better, and i will continue to shape better and better versions of myself. i hope this year will be good for everyone else, too.
#the hawk speaks#not a new years resolution just a fond recollection of the past year#i actually do not have any new years resolutions this year except to stay the course. for the most part my life is well put together#of course there is always room for self improvement but i actually feel completely secure and content with the direction i'm going

The first event of 2024 will feature renowned sculptor Marie Khouri who will share her incredible personal story of creativity through the lens of the global theme RISE.
Born in Egypt and raised in Lebanon, Marie Khouri relays messages of movement, community, and connection through her artworks. As an immigrant spending time across Europe before truly settling in Canada, Khouri’s work speaks to a unified and diverse audience, creating sculptures that unify communities. With her works rooted in a profound sense of dislocation and the search for a greater sense of place, her sculptures are formed through extensive hands-on process that employs traditional sculpting techniques alongside contemporary innovations in material and building standards. Khouri was just honoured as the Award of Distinction in the 2023 Applied Art + Design Awards by BC Achievement Foundation.
Every month we ask our speaker a handful of probing questions to give us a deeper glimpse into their life and relationship with creativity:
How do you define creativity and apply it in your life and career? When asked about how I define creativity and apply it in my life and career, I express that for me, creativity is not just a sporadic occurrence but an everyday phenomenon. It permeates various aspects of my life, from the way I dress and cook to my behavior and work. I draw inspiration from everyday things, whether it be an image, a reading, or a simple walk, emphasizing the importance of finding creativity in the ordinary.
Where do you find your best creative inspiration or energy? Reflecting on where I find my best creative inspiration or energy, I stress that inspiration often stems from everyday experiences, such as images, readings, or walks—especially those by the sea. I emphasize the significance of not merely looking at things but truly seeing them, delving beneath the surface. Ultimately, I highlight the pivotal moment when I can apply this creative inspiration in the studio, manifesting it into the everyday things I create.
What’s one piece of creative advice or a tip you wish you’d known as a young person? In response to the question about creative advice for young individuals, I suggest embracing every moment and experience, emphasizing that tips and advice are valuable additions to one’s creative journey. Stressing the importance of taking life one step at a time.
Who (living or dead) would you most enjoy hearing speak at CreativeMornings? When asked about the dream speaker at CreativeMornings, I express a desire to hear Louise Bourgeois, citing her groundbreaking contributions to sculpture and feminist art during her time. I appreciate her ability to break the mold, highlighting her role as an abstract expressionist in feminist art.
What did you learn from your most memorable creative failure? Answering the question about the most memorable creative failure, I share the lesson learned—that accidents can lead to creative successes. I draw a parallel to Bob Ross’s philosophy that there are no creative mistakes, only happy accidents. I emphasize the iterative nature of art, where mistakes can often pave the way for unique and creative outcomes.
What fact about you would surprise people? Regarding a surprising fact about myself, I reveal that I speak five languages, worked as an interpreter before becoming an artist, and even had a background in finance. This unexpected facet adds depth to my identity beyond the realm of art.
How does your life and career compare to what you envisioned for your future as a sixth grader? When asked to compare my life and career to the visions I had as a sixth grader, I explain that, due to existing in a difficult reality during a civil war in my home country, I was incapable of dreaming at that age. This experience shaped my perspective on life and dreams.
How would you describe what you do in a single sentence to a stranger? “I play with clay,” encapsulating the essence of my artistic endeavors.
If you could open a door and go anywhere, where would that be? In response to the hypothetical scenario of opening a door and going anywhere, I express a desire to be in my home, Paris, France..
What keeps you awake at night? Delving into what keeps me awake at night, I humorously attribute it to my “creative juices,” emphasizing the constant flow of ideas and inspiration that fuels my artistic endeavors.
What are you proudest of in your life? When asked about what I am proudest of in my life, I unequivocally cite my children as my greatest source of pride, followed by my achievements in public art.
What has been one of your biggest Aha! moments in life? Recalling one of my biggest “Aha!” moments in life, I share the profound experience of witnessing the installation of my first public art piece—VANTAGE—a moment that solidified the impact of my creative contributions.

On November 19, 2024, invitations were extended to 400 candidates for the CEC.
Key Insights for Express Entry Candidates
Draw Type: Canadian Experience Class
Invitations Issued: 400
CRS Score: 539
The Express Entry draw conducted today brings about a feeling of recognition:
This Canadian Involvement Course draw speaks to the moment CEC draw inside a fortnight, and once once more, IRCC has amplified solicitations to 400 CEC candidates in November.
Considering the limited number of invitations, it is not unexpected to observe a relatively elevated CRS cut-off. At 539, the score is indeed high, although it reflects a decrease from last week’s CEC draw, which had a cut-off of 547. For setting, 539 was moreover the CRS cut-off for both Canadian Encounter Course draws in October 2024.
This situation can be attributed to the current dynamics of the Express Entry pool, where a significant number of candidates are present, potentially resulting in higher CRS cut-offs.
In general, the pool has experienced a notable increase in candidates throughout October:
October 7, 2024: 209,892 candidates
October 22, 2024: 211,780 candidates
November 13, 2024: 217,500 candidates
November 19, 2024: 218,167 candidates
This indicates a rise of 8,275 candidates over just over a month, with an increase of 667 candidates within the past week.
However, the number of candidates scoring between 501 and 600 has decreased since November 13:
October 7, 2024: 11,800 candidates
October 22, 2024: 13,430 candidates
November 13, 2024: 16,625 candidates
November 19, 2024: 16,495 candidates
This decrease may give a flicker of positive thinking for candidates looking for a CEC welcome in the lower 500s run, in spite of the fact that it remains untimely to find out the direction of future draws.
What Awaits CEC Express Entry Draws in 2025?
Today’s draw signifies the inaugural Canadian Experience Class Express Entry draw following the announcement of the 2025–2027 immigration levels plan. Given Canada’s intention to prioritize the transition of temporary residents currently in the country—presumably, those with Canadian work experience—toward permanent residency, this modest draw may come as a surprise.

Canada Fears Trump’s Mass Deportations Will Push Migrants North (NYT) At 5,525 miles, it is the longest border between any two countries. And that border—separating the United States and Canada—seems set to become a flashpoint between the close allies as President-elect Donald J. Trump prepares to take power. The Canadian authorities fear that Mr. Trump’s promised mass deportations will push migrants north, while allies of the incoming president headed for key roles in his administration have raised alarms over a recent spike in undocumented migrants crossing from Canada to the United States. Canadian officials are drawing up plans to add patrols, buy new vehicles and set up emergency reception facilities at the border between New York State and the province of Quebec to prepare for what they expect to be a surge in migrants because of Mr. Trump’s hard line on deportations. The northern border is also a focus of people named to top positions in the Trump administration, including his new border czar, Tom Homan. He has described the frontier as a major security vulnerability because of what he described as insufficient checks on people entering the United States.
Seattle Power Outages Could Linger as Strong Storms Pelt the West Coast (NYT) Utility crews across the Seattle region scrambled to clear fallen trees and restore power to nearly 300,000 homes, schools and businesses that remained without electricity on Thursday. The storm also deluged Northern California, where firefighters made water rescues as creeks overflowed from torrential rain. Officials said the outages in Seattle could last into the weekend, even as another round of heavy wind and rain is expected, stretching even farther south this time. Fed by an atmospheric river funneling water from the Pacific Ocean, the storm killed at least two people as it tore through Western Washington this week. It moved south and parked over Northern California, flooding roadways and disrupting transit and air travel. Nearly seven inches of rain fell Wednesday at the airport in Santa Rosa, in California’s wine country north of San Francisco, breaking a one-day record.
It’s the divisions that bring some together in a county in Washington state (NPR) In a community center overlooking the Salish Sea in Washington state, about 30 people are around a long table, talking and arguing. It’s earlier this year, but the conversation has turned back to the assault on the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. David Fox, a Democrat at the table, says there’s no evidence to back up Donald Trump’s claim that as president he asked the military to protect lawmakers before the building was breached. Sandi Lytle, a Republican, argues that this should have been the job of then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. They go back and forth, interrupting, raising voices, as they try to convince each other. Though they argue, the two are friends who meet to do this most Thursday mornings. “I love it because this is how the country is,” Lytle said. “This is who we are as a nation. We’ve got to have the discussion, the debate, the back and forth. That’s how we get to the best answers.” Attendees say the group has met to discuss politics for some three decades. While the discussions are open to anyone in the community, it is mainly older adults who attend. Many said they like being in a place where their ideas are challenged, where they learn something and can interact face-to-face. “Whatever happens, whatever difficulties confront us, what’s most important to me is that we don’t go further and further away from each other,” Fox said.
42% (WSJ) That’s the share of crop farmhands who aren’t legally authorized to work in the U.S., according to the Labor Department. The agriculture industry is bracing for Trump’s immigration crackdown because migrants do some of its most challenging jobs, such as picking fruit, operating machinery and slaughtering livestock.
Brazilian Police Accuse Bolsonaro of Plotting a Coup (NYT) The Brazilian authorities announced on Thursday that they were recommending criminal charges against former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro over his role in a broad plot to cling to power after he lost the 2022 presidential election. The accusations sharply escalate Mr. Bolsonaro’s legal troubles and highlight the extent of what the authorities have called an organized attempt to subvert Brazil’s democracy. After Mr. Bolsonaro narrowly lost to the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a leftist, he refused to acknowledge defeat but left office anyway. Brazil’s federal police urged prosecutors to charge Mr. Bolsonaro and three dozen others, including members of his inner circle, for the crimes of “violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état and criminal organization.” The charges are the culmination of a sweeping two-year investigation in which police raided homes and offices, arrested senior aides to Mr. Bolsonaro and secured confessions and plea deals with people involved in the plot.
Germans are working less, and even the Swiss are cutting back (NZZ/Switzerland) Why have the Germans become so fragile? During the pandemic, the average German worker took 20 sick days. But instead of declining after the coronavirus crisis, absenteeism surged. By 2022, the average German employee was out sick for an astonishing 25 days, according to the World Health Organization. Yet sick leave is only part of the story. Germans also enjoy an average of 31 vacation days annually. Add six weeks of holidays to three to four weeks of sick leave, and it’s little wonder Germany’s economy is once again being likened to the “sick man of Europe.” Germany is far from an outlier. Across the continent, taking sick leave seems to have grown more common. Across Europe, a cultural shift is underway as societies lean further into leisure and aspirations outside of work. Since the turn of the millennium, working hours have declined across all advanced economies. Austria has seen the steepest drop, with annual working hours falling by 151—equivalent to about 19 workdays. Even Switzerland is not immune to this trend. Swiss employees now work, on average, 138 hours less per year than they did in 2000.
Fearing war, Georgia chooses a return to Russia’s embrace (Washington Post) After a contentious parliamentary election, Georgia—a small nation once part of the Soviet Union—finds itself sliding back into Russia’s orbit following decades of seeking greater integration with the West. The ruling Georgian Dream party, adopting a pro-Russian stance, declared victory in October’s elections after winning 54 percent of the vote and running a campaign with a stark warning: Align with the West and suffer Ukraine’s fate. The opposition has rejected the election as stolen, but it does appear that the ruling party successfully capitalized on a fragmented opposition and Georgians’ fear of war, aided by Russian disinformation and a patchy record from the West when it comes to supporting nations seeking to leave Russia’s sphere of influence. After years of waning influence in the region, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has had a chilling effect on neighboring countries seeking closer ties with the West.
Second Australian teen dies in tainted alcohol case in Laos that has killed 6 tourists (AP) A second Australian teenager who fell critically ill after drinking tainted alcohol in Laos has died in a hospital in Bangkok, her family said Friday, bringing the death toll in the mass poisoning of foreign tourists to six. Holly Bowles, 19, had been in critical condition on life support following the poisoning in Laos more than a week ago. Methanol is sometimes added to mixed drinks at disreputable bars as a cheaper alternative to ethanol, but can cause severe poisoning or death. It is also a byproduct of poorly distilled homebrew liquor, and could have found its way into bar drinks inadvertently. Landlocked Laos is one of Southeast Asia’s poorest nations and a popular tourist destination. Vang Vieng is particularly popular among backpackers seeking partying and adventure sports.
ICC warrants put spotlight on Israel and its U.S. defenders (Washington Post) Judging by the American reaction, you would think the International Criminal Court was based in Beijing or Moscow. On Thursday, a set of judges at the ICC, which is headquartered in The Hague, the administrative capital of the Netherlands, issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant for “crimes against humanity and war crimes” over Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip. They also issued an arrest warrant for Mohammed Deif, Hamas military leader in Gaza; he is believed dead. The move follows some six months of deliberations after an application made by the court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, in May. The court said it found “reasonable grounds” to believe Netanyahu and Gallant bore responsibility for crimes including the use of starvation as a method of war and for “murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.” Khan argued that there was clear evidence to demonstrate the Israeli ministers had presided over a policy that “systematically deprived the civilian population of Gaza of objects indispensable to human survival.” Israeli officials and lawmakers from across the political spectrum, including Netanyahu and Gallant themselves, denounced the warrants as the workings of the “enemy of humanity,” proof of an international system brimming with “bias” and “antisemitism,” and interference in Israel’s pursuit of a just war in the wake of Hamas’s terrorist strike last October. In Washington, their indignation and fury was echoed. The Biden administration said it “fundamentally rejects” the ICC’s decision, and questioned the ICC’s jurisdiction in the matter. President Joe Biden called the warrants “outrageous.” Republican lawmakers were more blunt in their criticism: Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) lambasted the U.N.-forged entity as a “kangaroo court” and labeled Khan a “deranged fanatic,” warning in a social media post that Congress would take punitive measures against the ICC. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said the ICC was a “dangerous joke” and called for U.S. sanctions on the body and its members. Netanyahu joins an ignominious list of leaders pursued by the ICC that includes Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir, Libya’s late leader Moammar Gaddafi, and Serbia’s Slobodan Milosevic and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Inside ‘ruthless’ gang-controlled gold mines (BBC) A mine in the small South African town of Stilfontein, south-west of Johannesburg, is at the centre of global attention after a government minister promised to “smoke out” the hundreds of illegal miners working underground to extract gold. Ndumiso, a 52-year-old man using a pseudonym to avoid reprisals from mining gangs, is one of them. Ndumiso told the BBC that after being laid off by a big mining firm, he decided to join the gang in its underground world to become what is known as a “zama zama”, an illegal miner. He digs for the precious metal and surfaces every three months or so to sell it on the black market for a huge profit, earning more than he ever did before—though the risks now are far higher. “The underground life is ruthless. Many do not make it out alive,” he said. “In one level of the shaft there are bodies and skeletons. We call that the zama-zama graveyard.” But for those who survive, like Ndumiso, the job can be lucrative.
Police find shoe thief at a kindergarten is actually a weasel (Washington Post) Children’s shoes were disappearing in droves from a local kindergarten—and it worried parents and teachers so much that the police were called. At the scene of the crime, in southwest Japan, shoes were scattered across the school grounds—some in a pile by the entrance, others stuck in the fence. It looked like the work of a clumsy or hurried thief. “We thought we were dealing with someone disturbed, someone with an obsession with children’s shoes perhaps,” the deputy of Kasuya police station in Fukuoka, Hiroaki Inada, told The Washington Post in a phone interview. Police installed three cameras and began investigating the incidents on suspicion of theft. The culprit was caught red-handed. A sneaky weasel could be seen cautiously approaching cubbyholes storing children’s shoes at 7:40 p.m., before dashing off with a single white shoe in its mouth. The kids loved the weasel video, and their shoe cubbyholes have been covered with netting to prevent future thefts.

1. Introduction: Canada Immigration’s Express Entry Draws
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just held a significant Express Entry draw, which saw a total of 733 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued to candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This is an exciting development for anyone interested in Canada immigration and those seeking to move to Canada through Express Entry.
The latest draw, which took place on November 12, offered opportunities for skilled professionals with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 812. This blog post will break down these recent results and explain what this means for applicants in 2024 and beyond.
2. November 2024 Draw Results: PNP Aligned
In the latest Express Entry draw, IRCC issued 733 ITAs to candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Applicants needed a minimum CRS score of 812 to be considered. This specific draw focuses on those who have been nominated by a province for permanent residency, which adds a significant boost to an applicant’s CRS score.
This is just one of the many Express Entry draws happening throughout the year, but it highlights the importance of provincial nominations in securing an ITA. If you’re looking to apply, make sure you understand how a PNP can help you achieve your immigration goals.
3. Key Changes in Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2025
Canada is constantly evolving its immigration strategy, and the Immigration Levels Plan for 2025 is a major step in this direction. According to the plan, IRCC aims to welcome 124,680 Express Entry candidates in 2025.
For applicants, this means more opportunities to receive an ITA, particularly for those under the In-Canada Focus target and Federal Economic Priorities category.
In-Canada Focus: Aimed at supporting temporary residents already in Canada, this target includes 82,980 permanent resident admissions, representing 40% of Canada’s economic immigration admissions for 2025.
Federal Economic Priorities: Focuses on candidates from various Express Entry-managed programs who have the skills to fill urgent gaps in occupations like healthcare, trade, and French language proficiency.
4. Understanding Express Entry: What You Need to Know
If you’re considering applying for Canada immigration, understanding the Express Entry system is essential. Express Entry is a points-based immigration system used to manage applications for three main immigration programs:
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which assigns points based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
5. How the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) Works
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is at the heart of the Express Entry process. The CRS awards points for the following factors:
Age: Younger candidates typically receive higher scores.
Education: Higher levels of education earn more points.
Work Experience: More years of relevant work experience increase your CRS score.
Language Ability: Proficiency in English or French is key to earning a competitive CRS score.
Other factors: Having a sibling in Canada, or applying with a spouse or partner, can also boost your score.
If you apply through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream, you can receive an additional 600 points, which virtually guarantees an ITA in the next draw.
6. How Immigration Consultants Can Help You Navigate the Express Entry System
Navigating Canada’s immigration system can be complex, which is why many applicants choose to work with a visa expert or immigration consultant. These professionals can assist with:
Assessing your eligibility for Express Entry and specific immigration programs.
Optimizing your CRS score by providing guidance on factors like language tests, educational credential assessments, and work experience documentation.
Navigating the PNP streams to maximize your chances of receiving a provincial nomination.
Submitting your application and ensuring it meets all necessary requirements for the Express Entry pool.
By working with an immigration consultant, you can improve your chances of success in the Express Entry system and avoid common mistakes that could delay your application

Article
Introduction
Canada’s Express Entry system serves as one of the most accessible and widely utilized pathways for skilled immigrants who aspire to achieve permanent residency. The system’s structured scoring model ranks applicants based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) that factors in education, work experience, language proficiency, and other elements. In recent months, the IRCC has adjusted its draw patterns, leading to changes in the frequency and size of invitations. For anyone hoping to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), staying updated on these trends is crucial to boosting one’s chances of success.
Current State of the Express Entry Pool
The Express Entry program operates through multiple streams, each designed to address Canada’s specific immigration priorities. These streams include:
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Targets individuals with the skills and experience needed in specific provinces.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Aims at candidates with Canadian work experience.
French Language Proficiency: Encourages French-speaking immigrants.
Trade Occupations: Focuses on skilled trade workers in high-demand fields.
Following a slower period in September, IRCC ramped up the frequency of draws in October. Although there were more draws, they were smaller in size, leading to an increase in CRS score cutoffs. As a result, candidates are encouraged to improve their CRS scores through factors like language proficiency and Canadian work experience.
Express Entry Draws in October 2024
October 2024 saw several targeted draws, each with unique CRS cutoffs and ITA counts. Here’s a breakdown of the month’s activity:
Draw Number
Date

791
320
October 22

400
539
321
October 23
Trade Occupations
1,800
433
These patterns reflect IRCC’s focus on provincial nominees, French-speaking candidates, and trade occupations, which align with Canada’s strategic goals of addressing labor shortages and fostering diversity.
Trends and Observations from October’s Draws
The October draws reveal some key trends worth noting:
Higher CRS Cutoffs: Frequent but smaller draws increased the average CRS score requirements. Applicants must focus on maximizing their CRS scores through language and work experience enhancements.
Focus on Specific Streams: The IRCC prioritized candidates in the CEC, PNP, and French-speaking categories, particularly those with Canadian work experience or bilingual skills.
Targeted Draw for Trade Occupations: The dedicated draw on October 23 for trade occupations underscores Canada’s emphasis on meeting labor demands in trade fields.
Comparing Monthly ITA Numbers in 2024
Tracking ITA numbers over recent months reveals a clear pattern:
Month
ITAs Issued
July
25,125
August
10,384
September
5,911
October
5,961
This decline in monthly ITA counts points to a more selective approach from IRCC, aimed at inviting high-caliber candidates who meet Canada’s specific economic needs.
Distribution of CRS Scores in the Express Entry Pool
The CRS score distribution in the pool as of October 22, 2024, is as follows:
CRS Score Range
Number of Candidates
0-300
5,462
301-350
22,928
351-400
51,048
...
...
601-1200
124
The data shows that most candidates fall within the 351-400 range, while competitive scores (471-480 and 481-490) contain a significant number of applicants.
Key Recommendations for Express Entry Candidates
Enhance Language Proficiency: Improving language test scores in English or French can be a significant advantage. French-speaking applicants may qualify for specific draws aimed at bilingual skills.
Consider Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs): PNPs can add up to 600 points to your CRS, making them highly valuable.
Seek Expert Advice: Consulting with Canada immigration experts can provide tailored guidance on improving qualifications and CRS scores.
Alternative Pathways for Skilled Immigrants
For those interested in options beyond Canada, Australia and Germany offer competitive PR processes as well.
Australia PR Process: Australia’s Global Talent Stream and skilled worker programs offer similar pathways for immigrants.
Germany PR Process: Germany also has skilled worker programs to attract qualified professionals, making it another viable option.
Conclusion
The Express Entry system continues to evolve, reflecting Canada’s labor market needs and prioritizing high-skilled candidates. By focusing on CRS score improvements, PNP nominations, and language proficiency, candidates can improve their chances of receiving an ITA. Skilled immigrants may also consider opportunities in Australia and Germany as alternatives.
