Hodgy Beats, also known as Hodgy, is an American rapper, record producer and music video director. He is best known for being a founding member of the hip hop collective Odd Future, along with Tyler, the Creator, Left Brain, Matt Martians, Jasper Dolphin and Casey Veggies. Hodgy makes alternative hip hop music that is often dark, rebellious and profane. His major influences include MF DOOM, Nas, Eminem and N.E.R.D. He was introduced to music at a young age by his mother, who played reggae and R&B records in their home. He started rapping when he was nine years old and recorded his first song when he was 14. Before joining Odd Future, he was part of a group called Urban Natives with his friends from high school.

Hodgy met Tyler, the Creator online through a mutual friend in 2006. They bonded over their love of skateboarding and music and decided to form Odd Future with other like-minded artists. Hodgy was the first member of Odd Future to release a solo project, The Dena Tape, in 2009. He was also part of the duo MellowHype with Left Brain, who produced most of his beats. MellowHype released four albums: YelloWhite, BlackenedWhite, Numbers and INSA. Hodgy was also part of MellowHigh with Left Brain and Domo Genesis. Hodgy was close friends with Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt in Odd Future. They often collaborated on songs and performed together on stage.

However, Hodgy's career did not reach the same level of success as some of his peers in Odd Future. While Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean became critically acclaimed and commercially successful artists, Hodgy struggled to find his own identity and direction as a solo artist. He also faced personal issues such as drug addiction, depression and fatherhood. He felt neglected and betrayed by Tyler, the Creator, who he accused of being selfish and abandoning Odd Future. He also had conflicts with other members of the group such as Domo Genesis and Mike G. He expressed his frustration and anger in several songs and interviews.

The highest level of Hodgy's success was probably when he performed with Odd Future at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. He joined Tyler, the Creator on stage for his performance of "Yonkers" and jumped on top of a piano while wearing a ski mask. The performance was controversial and memorable and helped Odd Future gain more exposure and recognition.

Hodgy has been working on his solo career since 2015. He released his debut album Fireplace: TheNotTheOtherSide in 2016, which received positive reviews from critics. He also released several EPs such as Untitled EP, Untitled 2 EP and They Watchin' LoFi Series 1. In 2022, he released a single called "Into Someone" and announced an upcoming project called Entitled, which came out on May 20th under the name Hodgy. He also formed a group called HA with producer Alvin Risk in 2018.

Hodgy has also reconciled with some of his former Odd Future members. He apologized to Tyler, the Creator for his past comments and praised his album Igor in 2019. He also reunited with Earl Sweatshirt on stage at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in 2019. He said that he still considers Odd Future as his family and that he is proud of their achievements.

Tyler Gregory Okonma (born March 6, 1991) known professionally as Tyler, the Creator, is a rapper, record producer, music director, actor, and fashion designer. He has been praised in the media as one of the most influential figures of pop culture of his generation.

He became known in the late 2000s when he emerged on the Internet as the leader and co-founder of the music collective Odd Future, in which he participated as a rapper, producer, director, and actor, releasing studio albums that he produced himself for its respective members and performing on his sketch comedy show Loiter Squad. He developed his solo career with his self-released debut mixtape Bastard (2009) and his debut studio album Goblin (2011), which brought him mainstream exposure, aided by the popularity of the single “Yonkers” and its accompanying music video. After the release of his second studio album, Wolf (2013), he began to separate himself from his horrorcore productions, turning to more accessible sounds with fusions of jazz, soul, and R&B after the release of Cherry Bomb (2015). He released Flower Boy, the first of a successful trilogy that would be followed by Igor (2019) and Call Me If You Get Lost (2021), which earned him widespread critical acclaim and commercial success, with the latter two debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 and each winning Best Rap Album at the 2020 and 2022 Grammy Awards, respectively.

He became an important figure in fashion with his clothing ventures Golf Wang and Le Fleur and for his collaborations with major brands such as Lacoste, Converse, and Louis Vuitton. He is the founder of the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival music festival. He has directed all of the music and promotional videos of his career, under the pseudonym Wolf Haley. He has won two Grammy Awards, three BET Hip Hop Awards, a BRIT Award, and a MTV Video Music Award. He was named “Music Innovator of the Year” by the Wall Street Journal.

He was born in Hawthorne, California, the son of a Nigerian father and an American mother of mixed African-American. He is an avid skateboarder and collects BMX bicycles. He identifies as an atheist. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

The Best New Artists of the 2010s (According to the Grammys)

It is official; the 2010s are coming to an end. As we look into 2020, the Grammys have unveiled their final “Best New Artist” list of the decade. Without a doubt everyone’s definitive list for who is going to have a lasting and successful career in music, the 2020 list of nominations feature some fan-favorites, interesting surprises, and odd snubs (we’re looking at you complete absence of a single BTS nomination in any of the 84 categories).

With Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Lil Nas X, ROSALÍA, Black Pumas, Tank and The Bangas, and Yola all finding themselves nominated for “Best New Artist” this year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the past winners. And after going back through a decade of winners and losers, it is safe to say “Best New Artist” may just be the wildest and most contentious Grammy category out there.

2010 - Zac Brown Band

2010 was a much simpler year. The Zac Brown Band had a hit on their hands, featuring none other than Margarita-loving and island-life-living Jimmy Buffet. The result would be a Grammy win for “Best New Artist,” beating out the likes of MGMT, Silversun Pickups, The Ting Tings, Keri Hilson. Not the best year for indie pop, but a great year for anyone who loves enjoying some fried chicken and beer to the sounds of the Zac Brown Band.

2011 - Esperanza Spalding

2011 may have been the biggest commercial upset to date. With some of today’s biggest pop and rock bands earning nominations–we’re talking Drake, Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons–the win would be a whole lot less pop and a whole lot more contemporary jazz. Acclaimed bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding would take home the illustrious award, proving that jazz was still alive and kicking, at least as of 2011.

2012 - Bon Iver

2012 marked a high point for EDM. Festival culture was ramping up and Skrillex had cemented himself as one the genre’s greatest innovators. Yet, 2012 saw the Grammys taking a step back and basking in the somber reflections of Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago. Taking home the Grammy over not just Skrillex but J. Cole, The Band Perry, and Nicki Minaj, 2012 was Bon Iver’s year and the year the Internet collectively asked, “Who is Bonnie Bear?”

2013 - fun.

If the crowd that boo’d Drake off stage at this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw were at the 2013 Grammys, there would be a veritable riot. With the majority of nominations leaning more in the country and folk tradition, fun. would beat out the likes of The Lumineers, Alabama Shakes, and Hunter Hayes. Yet, the true upset would lie in the indie pop-rock band taking home the award over R&B purveyor Frank Ocean.

2014 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

2014 was an amazing year for music as a whole but hip-hop in particular. Yes, we had nominations for country-pop superstar in the making Kacey Musgraves, the only man who can turn down a check from Drake, James Blake, and one of the to-be biggest artists on the planet, Ed Sheeran, but the award would deservingly go to one of the best rappers of the decade, Kendrick Lamar. Just kidding. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis beat out Kendrick Lamar, taking home the award much to hip-hop’s collective dismay.

2015 - Sam Smith

2015 dodged a bullet in not giving the award to Iggy Azalea, whose list of feuds over the decade is enough to constitute both a standalone Billboard and Cosmopolitan article. Instead, the 2015 Grammys played it smart and safe by giving the honor to Sam Smith, who took home the honor over Bastille, Brandy Clark, HAIM, and the aforementioned Azalea.

2016 - Meghan Trainor

Not much to say here. Meghan Trainor took home the award over Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, and Tori Kelly in a year where pop sounded a whole lot like country at times.

2017 - Chance the Rapper

2017 will always be my go-to-year for explaining why I will never quite understand the Grammys’ “Best New Artist” category. And no, it’s not because The Chainsmokers earned a nomination. Chance the Rapper took home the award, beating out Anderson .Paak, Maren Morris, and Keslea Ballerini, in spite of having released numerous mixtapes in the previous five years. The Grammys really knocked down my door in 2017 to ask if I had heard of this Chance the Rapper guy.

2018 - Alessia Cara

In a contentious year where pop-R&B reigned supreme, we saw some of our favorites pitted against one another. Khalid versus SZA. Julia Michaels versus Alessia Cara. Lil Uzi Vert just being Lil Uzi Vert. The award for “Best New Artist” would ultimately go to Canadian pop-R&B singer and songwriter Alessia Cara.

2019 - Dua Lipa

2019 marked a major change-up. Finding themselves as indecisive on me on any given day, the Grammys upped their number of “Best New Artist” nominations from five to eight. Making even more room for speculation, but not straying too far from the world’s ongoing obsession with pop-R&B, Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., Bebe Rexha, Jorja Smith, and Dua Lipa all received nominations, as well as Margo Price, Luke Combs, and Greta Van Fleet who all made a good case for country and rock. However, it was Dua Lipa who would ultimately take home the award, because, really, was there any other pop queen in 2019 quite like Dua?

Earl Sweatshirt - Nowhere2go TRACK REVIEW

Since 2015, Earl Sweatshirt, one of my favorite rappers, has been pretty quiet with his output. He has put out songs that were fucking great like Quest/Power, Wind In My Sails and Balance. Each of those tracks has had me really anticipating the followup to I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. At his live shows, fans have recorded Earl doing a number of unreleased tracks. His set at Camp Flog Gnaw last weekend consisted of mostly unreleased tracks that all sounded amazing. Earl premiered Nowhere2go at a show in 2016 and now we have the full version. The worst thing about the song is that it’s under 2 minutes long. Earl is slurring his words on this song but I doubt his album will sound like that. This production sounds like something a rapper like JPEGMAFIA would rap over but Earl sounds great over it. The chopped samples that are pasted together sound amazing. In terms of content, I feel like this is just a taste of what’s coming next. He’ll likely go more in depth about his father passing recently and the status of his depression. The part of the song that interested me the most was when he said “I’m in LA with ....” He leaves an open space there and moves on. In the original 2016 debut of the song, Earl said “I’m in LA with Glen.” Glen likely refers to producer Knxwledge who I know worked with Earl a bunch post-IDLSIDGO. I hope they’re on good terms because they are such a good combo. This song is fucking great. When Earl drops his album I’ll be here.

Tyler The Creator

Tyler Gregory Okonma is a rapper, record producer, and music video director. He has his newest album called “Flower Boy”  which was dropped just recently on July 21, 2017. So many of his fans went raving and with this album. He got a lot more people to add to his fan base, I know this because he even got me and a few of my friends to support him. This album is his fourth studio album but his first under a major record label (Columbia Records). Tylers most popular song currently is from “Flower Boy” which is called “Who dat boy” who features A$AP Rocky hit NO. 87 on the Billboard 100. He produced and directed the video for it.

Two other songs I like from his album are “See You Again” featuring Kali Uchi and “911/Mr.Lonely” featuring Steve Lacy and Frank Ocean and “911/Mr.Lonley”. 911 was a pre-realsed single and “See You Again” was a single but they are still apart of the album.

He has three other studio albums to his name which are “Cherry Bomb” released in 2015, “Wolf” released in 2013, and  “Goblin” released in 2011. He also has a mixtape called “Bastard” released in 2009. His other bodies of work come from the group he was in called OFWGKTA, which stands for Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, (‘them’ isn't referring to anyone) connected to Odd Future. The “albums” they had together are “The Odd Future Tape” dropped in 2007,and “Radical” in 2010. When he was still keeping up with OFWGKTA he had made a clothing brand called Odd Future, he no longer works with them. The group had consisted of 24 different people but there were about 11 main ones like Frank Ocean, Taco, Earl Sweatshirt, just to name  a view artist. They had made the group to be supportive and help each other grow, which they did because soon everyone was growing and moving onto new own personal projects. They are like family in the group so everyone understood and knew this was meant to happen so they just respected everyone's decisions and stayed supporting each other. 

He also has his own festival called Camp Flog Gnaw which he’s the main event but he has a bunch of other musical artist join and perform as well. Its coming up soon, OCTOBER 28-29!!! So many people are excited for it.

Hes well known for his fashion because its so unique and colorful, it shows his personality and how crazy it is. Currently he owns his own clothing brand called GOLF, its very popular with students at my school, I feel his sense of style is so unique its amazing but that’s just my opinion. The way he dresses correlates with his personality and his music because it all reflects back on how he is as a person. As you can see he uses colorful and creative things on a daily bases to show how he feels with what hes wearing and that creative part of him shows through his musical and video content. He is a very unique person and not a lot of people can enjoy his music because its so different but maybe you can so you should give him a listen.

Lyft Is Partnering AEG For Transporting People To And From Music Concerts

Lyft has teamed up with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) to be its private transport companion, at least on bicycles, scooters, and the ridesharing service. Lyft will be on hand at 16 places and accessible in eight main markets in which music festivals are behind held.
