Botanic Tournament : Honorary Mentions !
This is a bracket made with rejected submissions. Here they're legit.
Explanations here
Semifinals 1
Explanations underneath
In reply to the original submitter : I'd looked and no, the cabbage man didn't have a name when you submitted him. However, I had another look just in case recently... and it looks like he's going to be known as Cai in the children book focused on him that should go out this Summer. According to the wiki, "if he shares the same last name as his son Lau Gan-Lan, That would make his name "Cai Gan-Lan", a play on "gan-lan cai", the name of a vegetable dish."
Here was the original propaganda : "he is a cultural icon and you know him even if you haven't seen atla just through the power of internet osmosis (me im the example)"
Camilla's a name meaning "young ceremony attendant". It's close phonologically to camellia but unrelated etymologically

about me™
I decided between one thing and the other, it was time to make a new version of my “what could you reasonably expect from this blog” post. Since it’s my birthday, here it is!
[edited on 01/01/2024]
General stuff
-Anon is open, for now; don’t abuse it, and follow the usual “don’t be an asshole” guideliness. I don’t post anon hate (unless I think it would be really funny of me to do so), so I suggest you don’t bother sending it.
-I block at the drop of a hat. The main reasons are usually bigotry and conservative rhetoric, general assholery (especially on the tags I track), and noticing someone blocked me first (I don't want you to reblog my posts if I can't reply to you or even see anything you add to them).
-In my pinned posts you can see a few links of interest (this post, my edits or fics, my author newsletter, etc.).
-I add image descriptions to everything in my blog (for my original posts, I usually use alt text). Feel free to send me an ask if I ever miss anything.
-I’m an Opinionated Person and I sometimes post negativity™ just for the sake of bitching (which I consider different from general, grounded criticism and the like). It’s all tagged with “bitter lau tag”, and “antiX for ts” tags, X being a fandom/character/ship. I.e. “antidelena for ts”; “antidamonsalvatore for ts”. That way it doesn't appear on main searches for those things. In general, I’m an exhaustive tagger, so filtering anything shouldn’t be a problem; and of course, you can always ask me to tag something specific I might've missed in order to filter it.
Fandoms
I’m very multifandom, but I'm prone to have one or two hyperfixations at the forefront. Sometimes they're new favourites, but more often than not they're old favourites that get their claws back on me.
-Main fandoms:
DCU. My interests in this very large fandom are diversified, but my entry point of obsession is often Jason Todd in particular and the Bat Cult Clan in general. Add some Young Justice, Gotham, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, the early DCEU, various female characters of dubious moral qualities, multiple teamups and adaptations and elseworlds… I always return to this world, basically. My primary area interest is the post-crisis/new earth comics continuity, but I dabble in many others.
-
Some of my favourite shows: Angel & BTVS, Attack on Titan, Black Sails, Desperate Housewives, Dollhouse, Killjoys, MARVEL’S Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nikita, Person of Interest, Reign, Scandal, Severance, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Good Wife, The Sopranos, The Vampire Diaries & Co, The Wire, Underground, Veronica Mars, Xena: Warrior Princess.
Some of my favourite films: the Alien franchise, Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus, Batman Returns, Black Swan, Blancanieves (2012), Colombiana, D.E.B.S., El verdugo, Jennifer’s Body, Jupiter Ascending, Lust Caution, Mulan, Pan’s Labyrinth, Practical Magic, The Handmaiden, The Lion in Winter, The Mask of Zorro, The Terminator (1 & 2).
Some of my favourite authors: Agatha Christie, Ana María Matute, Angela Carter, Camilla Andrew, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Daphne du Maurier, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Miguel Hernández, Philip Pullman, Shirley Jackson, Terry Pratchett, Ursula K. Le Guin.
Other favourite books: Beauty and the Beast (Madame de Villeneuve), Carmilla, Dangerous Liaisons, Frankenstein, El cordero carnívoro, Fuenteovejuna, His Dark Materials, Hymn to Demeter, Medea, Pygmalion, Rebecca, The Essence of the Equinox, the Seven Kingdoms series, We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
Some other favourite comics: IDW (Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, Dark Spaces), Image (Monstress, Paper Girls, Saga), Iron Man (Fatal Frontier, Doomquest, Legacy of Doom, vol 1. & 3).
Favourite music artists: Aaliyah, Amistades Peligrosas, Amy Winehouse, Ani DiFranco, Antonio Vivaldi, Bear McCreary, Christopher Beck, Clint Mansell, Dessa, Ennio Morricone, Fiona Apple, FKA twigs, Florence + the Machine, Georges Bizet, Hole, Julie London, Kate Bush, Mägo de Oz, Mirel Wagner, Montserrat Caballé, Nancy Sinatra, Nina Simone, Peggy Seeger, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Queen, Richard Wagner, Sergui Serguéievich Prokófiev, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Pretty Reckless, Tracy Chapman.
Other interests: art history, creative writing, photography, history, historiography, languages, criminal and international law, orcas, owls… countless others.

Soleado - Camren by MakeItBetter99 - Wattpad (Spanish only)
Summary:
Lauren Jauregui is a 17-year-old girl who suffers from albinism that leads to seizures, nosebleeds, instability while walking and light phobia. She rarely left her home, they were almost nil since her birth. Camila Cabello becomes Lauren's first friend
- Wh- Who... are you? - asked the green-eyed girl fearfully - Ghost... - said Camila now with a scary face - Your name is Ghost?- asked the green-eyed girl tilting her head a little in search of understanding...who the hell is called ghost? - Yo-...You... - Camila stuttered, Lauren let out a little baby laugh - I don't call myself a ghost ... - she said mockingly - My name is Lau ...- Lauren hit herself mentally, she shouldn't tell her name to strangers but what was she doing there? In her house? Camila realized that it was Lauren, the girl her mother talked about so much, now she felt free to know that she didn't have a connection with ghosts - I'm Camila, Sinuhe's daughter. - Camilla ... - Camila shook her head amused, many people mispronounced her name
___
I always wanted to see how Lauren would looks like having albinism and this story recreated that image in an amazing and cute way. I don’t know if this story has an english version or not.

I was super excited about the Tomb Raider movie, but when I saw it in theaters I was really disappointed by how much they changed it from the games. Part of what I love about the games is that there is a supernatural element to each story. The movie completely disregarded that. Also didn’t like the way they handled Trinity, her dad being alive, and none of the crew from the Endurance. It just felt like all the changes they made were extremely unnecessary. Alicia Vikander was a badass though
Fair.I guess my argument is that having all of those Endurance members would make the movie feel bloated. With Tomb Raider you need Lara to be front and center, and having all of those characters would have needed them to push her to the side to develop EVERYONE. Honestly if they were to include them it would be better suited for a TV show rather than a 2 hour film.
As for the supernatural stuff, it did still have it although it was more pseudo-scientific supernatual stuff with Himiko’s virus turning people into ravenous zombie like beasts. Allegedly in the original script she was going to face off against Himiko’s maidens which would have been reminiscent of the Oni in the game however I think it was changed due to budget. Honestly the virus reminded me of the Rise DLC ‘Cold Darkness Awakened’.
I was sort of hesitant about the dad thing when I saw the film, but after sitting on it and further rewatches I liked it a lot more. It means Lara won’t be hung up on him hopefully if they do a sequel as she go her closure with him. Again, his role in the film reminded me of Rise of the Tomb Raider with the role that Jakob played.
Trinity being included I actually enjoyed, it was kind of cool seeing them take elements from both games and mixing them into a sort of re-imagining of the reboot trilogy. I was hoping to see what a sequel would be like and if they would draw from Shadow.I never expected a scene for scene adaptation, I just wanted something that captured the spirit of the reboot titles. And for me it did and so much more. It seemed like the perfect balance of all eras of Tomb Raider. Alicia’s take on Lara reminded me more of Classic/LAU Lara (which I enjoyed more than Camilla’s take), and I would have loved to see it continue.

I see a lot of people thinking that the Unification means Survivor Lara erasure or that the Unification is essentially a new reboot because Survivor Lara is not profitable or recognisable.
That is not the case obviously, and it's just another alternate reality scenario Classic / Core purists seem to have unanimously created in their minds.
Crystal spent years crafting Survivor Lara and the Reboot games as an origins story. They marketed the hell out of Lara's new look and more grounded personality and made sure to tell the world that this would be a brand new start and that by the time the origins trilogy was over Lara would have become a seasoned tomb raider, but not necessarily magically transforming into Classic Lara. And this is exactly what's happening. Although I don't think the Unification idea was their plan all along, it's a really clever marketing tactic. Having a standard look for Lara that encompasses her classic iconography (braid, blue tanktop, brown pants, dual pistols) mixed in with Survivor Lara's (more realistic body and face proportions, the jade necklace) is much easier to market to a wider audience. And objectively speaking Lara's Classic outfit is instantly recognisable so it makes more sense.
The idea for the Unification is to have Survivor Lara as a template with the Reboot games as the new definitive origins story and then after she "became the Tomb Raider™" she embarked on all her other adventures from 1996 to 2008. Hell they even seem to be including the two spinoff games, Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris, as part of the official canon now.
I know Core / Classic purists hate Survivor Lara's outfit, her proportions, her more grounded characterisation, Camilla as her voice actress and see the Unification as an excuse to pretend that people didn't love all of these things but... Seeing how the Survivor era is across the board the most critically and commercially successful one... I think it's silly to pretend otherwise...
Many of the Core / Classic purists also seem to think that just because some fans / part of the general public like Classic Lara or even prefer her over Survivor Lara that automatically means they dislike Survivor Lara. That is not true, obviously. I personally also like Classic Lara more, Crystal's version of Classic Lara in particular from the LAU era and the spinoffs, but that doesn't mean I hate Survivor Lara or Core's Classic Lara for that matter. Hell, I will even say that most of the fandom may prefer Classic Lara but, again, that doesn't in any way shape or form mean they hate Survivor Lara.
TL;DR: It's extremely dumb to believe that Crystal is throwing away Survivor Lara just because some vocal minority in the fandom has been doing nothing but crying and complaining online for sixteen (16!) years.

Salude a Lautaro y me fui a casa. -Me duele-dijo y sollozaba. -Tranca te vas a ahogar, llorá, descargate.

Okay... I have opened my Tumbrl after my weekend of intense study and...
What the hell just happened?!
Some rambling annoying reboot lovers that attack us Core Design lovers? Just if Crystal Dynamics is their oxygen and we cannot say OUR Opinion on the Saga right now.
I say my opinion: Tomb Raider now is shit, for me it ended with Angel of Darkness and Lara Croft died in 2003 and she will forever be dead to me.
But The Memory of HER, Lara Croft of Core Design, will live forever, I don’t care about many philosophical phrases the new Lara will say in the next Tomb Raider games. That Lara is not Lara.
Accept That, But I see that you’re too blinded by the graphics or the realisim of those games, I cannot help but be dissapointed by the fandom, the Tomb Raider fandom is a shitty fandom, let me be blunt. But some people are not that shitty.
Some people don’t spread shit on people who love Angel of Darkness and also some people don’t spread shit on people who loved Core Design’s TR.
Crystal Dynamics is not your oxygen that resurrected Lara Croft from the “dissapointing” Angel of Darkness. The real dissapointment is not AoD. The Disappointment is those fans who wanted nothing more than realisim.
Some people said to me, An hardcore classic and AoD Fan, that the Reboot is a lot better, a lot emotional than the classics and AoD ones...
Let me be blunt;
-I Cry everytime at AoD’s Ending.
-I cry everytime Kurtis get stabbed in the chest.
-I get emotional when I play The Lost Valley on Tomb Raider I or The Great Wall on Tomb Raider II
-I get emotional when I finish Madubu’s Gorge after suffering hell in Tomb Raider III
Giving emotions is not only through Cutscenes and voices... Believe me, I study theatre, diction and singing... and even the unsaid words, the body language, the facial expressions, the locations can give anything.
On Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider (As well as the LAU Trilogy) I didn’t feel that, It felt to monotonus.. blank. Expecially the voice acting.
I didn’t liked Keeley Hawes perfomaces TBH (Even through in the Italian ones, Elda Olivieri, Lara’s Voice in all Tomb Raiders except Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of The Tomb Raider witch is dubbed by Benedetta Ponticelli who is far better than Camilla Luddington TBH), I prefer Jonell Elliot because she gave (expecially in AoD) the perfect Lara in my opinion, I felt her personality on my skin with her when I listened to the English version the first time.
Okay I’ve added my two cents, Anons if you want to attack me go on! I’m not butthurt, you will not break me because I’m strong, You will not shatter me in billions of pieces. I don’t give anything but a fuck of your ramblings through US Core Design followers.
With that said, I’m out. Thank you for reading me through xD
