So, I was revising my timeline, because I needed to decide WHEN exactly Dora and Shay are going around the Sword Coast on their merry journey.

And I think I found a proper timeline for them.

Their story and the adventure that sees them together is set during the Ruining, the event that basically destroyed Neverwinter.

See, Dora and Shay met a few years back, when Dora went to Moonshae as a favour to Byron, the retired Paladin of Lathander that raised her in the Rhyester's Matins in Silverymoon, before both of them moved to Neverwinter. I envision that, much like in my OG AU for them, Shay and Byron are old camerades, and they worked together in their youth, becoming basically brothers-in-arms, and even after they went their merry way, one back to Moonshae Islands, the other to Silverymoon, they still kept in touch.

So, because of this, and because Byron couldn't do the voyage himself, because of old age and whatnot, he asked Dora to do this personal favour to him and go to Moonshae Island, to answer Shay's request for help.

So, here she would arrive to offer aid to the wounded people, after the entirety of Shay's village had been sacked and pillaged.

So I imagine that Shay, knowing that she is Byron's daughter, would take good care of her, and keep her safe as much as he can, first out of duty toward Byron, and then, because he actually starts taking a huge liking in her (he has seen her passing out from working too much far too many times for his liking, and if he doesn't remind her to feed herself, homegirl would basically starve).

So I imagine that, once Dora is done in Moonshae, she would go back north to Silverymoon, only this time around with Shay to escort her back (homeboy wanted to ask Byron for his blessing to court her, because I envision that Dora spent a six - ten months in Moonshae, and Shay had all the time to start feeling unrequieted feelings for her lolol).

They are journeying home, when news of the Ruining of Neverwinter reaches them, and Dorothea, without a moment of hesitation, tells Shay that they need to reach Neverwinter to help whatever survivors is still there.

Of course, Shay is not able to convince her that it's far too dangerous to go there, she is stubborn as mule, and he knows that she is set to go, with or without him, because her people in Neverwinter need all the help they can get (honestly, she is right. Between the Wailing Plague and the ensuing war, Neverwinter kinda had the short end of the stick).

Shay OF COURSE could not deny her anything, so he followed her to Neverwinter, making sure that no fucking ash zombie were ever to get to her, and felling as many Thayan necromancers as his greatswords allowed.

(honestly, their dynamic can pretty much be summoned like this)

So he kinda had to put on hold the whole "asking for Byron's blessing to properly court Dora", and would have to wait until they were done.

Which he was willing to do, because he knew how Dora was whenever she was needed to help the sick and wounded.

If only a certain Cambion wasn't responsible for helping those necromancer bringing pure chaos in the city, and if only that Cambion hadn't decided to hyperfixate on that Cleric that went head first with her morningstar to smash zombies' heads....

Needless to say, Jacob is going to have his troubles getting across Dorothea's fierce Paladin lololol (though am still debating if this is going to happen or not, especially the overlapping of Dora and Shay's voyage with Dorothea and Jacob's first meeting. I kinda wanted to keep the two unrelated and separated, so this part is still pending, so to speak).
