emergency contact | calum hood x fem!reader
FUCK this took so long and took so many twists and turns but i have finished lads
summary: you end up in the hospital after an accident, only to find that your emergency contact number hadnât been updated. you are yet to find out if itâs a blessing or a curse.Â
word count: 8.9k
warnings: self doubt, talking down about oneself, she/her pronoun usage, swearing, breakups, angst, drinking, car accident, hospital mentions, injury mentions, mentions of weed, partying, fighting
author's note: it might be rushed at the end and there's no set timeline of events, so it might not align with the true events IRL.
i also would like to say that we support girls here! no hate toward anyone, girls support girls!
In defense of yourself, you hadnât expected to be back in Los Angeles so soon. Nor had you anticipated an accident like this to update your contacts on your phone. It was on the back of your mind, yes, but you had intended to change your emergency contact list on your phone for events like these. It was something youâd remind yourself occasionally, only to push it off for the next day, then the next day, then forget about it altogether.Â
And perhaps you were too cowardly to change the list. You didnât admit this to another soul since it had been nearly a year since the two of you broke things off. Your friends time and time again had persuaded you to put yourself back on the market, to get over the musician. But how could you? You had dedicated the best years of your life to him, nearly six of them. You thought you were going to marry the man, but life had other plans.Â
That being said, you still loved him. The small act of removing him off your emergency contacts list felt so final to you. Like that was the end of your sad little love story with him. Truth be told, it was the end. It was the end from the moment you broke things off with him. You were just too stubborn to admit that to yourself.Â
It was your doing, wasnât it? You were the one to tell him it was over. He had just gotten back home from their tour and went to greet you with open arms. You had been wretched enough to deny him that, pulling away immediately. You ignored his eyes when you told him you were tired of your lifestyle. Of waiting on him like a dog for him to come back from tour. Of relishing that one month of being together like it was the last thing on earth, only for him to leave once again for tours or writing retreats.Â
And most of all, you were tired of not feeling enough for him. In the world of popular and beautiful stars, why did he stay with you? Calum never made you feel so ordinary, not on purpose, at least. You had nothing to offer him other than your love. You feared that wouldnât be enough in the end. The more years that passed, and the closer the possibility of marriage became, you thought it would be better to let go of him first before he ended up resenting you for not choosing someone better when he had the chance.Â
You didnât listen to his pleas for you to stay. Or his professions of love for you, or how his promise to leave the band entirely if it meant you staying. You felt so cruel to let someone who loved you so much go so easily. He was willing to give up his music for you, so how could you ever claim that you were second best to his music?Â
But that was the very thing, you were afraid. He loved you so much that he was willing to let his entire life go for you. You couldnât let him do that to himself, to let go of his happiness. But you had enough self dignity to know that you deserved more out of life than waiting in an empty home to fill up again.Â
â
Calum wasnât sure what to make of the phone call he received just a moment ago. He never thought heâd hear your name again, much less be summoned to the hospital to see you.Â
âMate, why are you still here?â Ashton asked, tucking away his drumsticks. âThe nurse called you a half hour ago. Arenât you going to see her?âÂ
âI donât know,â Calum uttered truthfully. âItâs been so long since I last saw her. It was probably a mistake, right? Why would they call me up?âÂ
Michael rolled his eyes from the couch where he was tuning his guitar. âBecause youâre still down as her emergency contact,â he drawled sarcastically.Â
âThanks for pointing out the obvious,â Calum deadpanned. âI mean, why would they call me and not her parents or something? Or her new boyfriend,â he muttered under his breath.Â
Luke approached the group from the bathroom, running his fingers through his hair. âEasy there, tiger,â he teased, grasping Calumâs shoulders from behind. âOne might assume youâre jealous.â The youngest of the group quickly dodged the bassistâs shove, laughing while doing so. âTo calm your worries, no, she doesnât have a new boy in her life. And her parents moved to the east coast three months ago so they canât come over.â
âWell arenât you the stalker,â Ashton snickered.Â
Luke shot the drummer a glare. âIâm not a stalker,â Luke defended himself. âIn case you actually wanted to know, I still keep contact with y/n. At least Sierra does for the most part. Though, last time I heard she was in Boston.âÂ
âBoston,â Calum spoke up in confusion. âWhatâs she in Boston for? And how did she end up here?âÂ
Luke clicked his tongue, a knowing look on his face. âIf you want to know, you can ask her yourself,â he sang in an annoying tone.Â
Michael set his guitar down and stood up in defense of his friend. âWhile thatâs true,â he began. âWhat about..you know?â
âWhat about âyou know?ââ Ashton piped up. âThereâs no harm in Calum going. She could really be hurt and need someone with her. If what Luke said is true and youâre the only nearby emergency contact, itâs better safe than sorry that you go to her.âÂ
The boys shared a look with each other. In their heart of hearts they knew it was a bad idea to let Calum go, especially after everything that had happened. But a selfish part of them wanted their best friend back, so what harm was in that notion?Â
âIâll go,â Calum finally relented. âBut sheâs coming with me.âÂ
â
When Calum arrived at the hospital, he wasnât sure what he was expecting. The doctor explained it was a car accident, and although you were recovering okay you still had to be observed after minor surgery. A part of Calumâs heartstrings tugged at the thought of you alone and afraid during the accident, thinking he could have done something if you hadnât broken things off, but he pushed that feeling down. Itâs been a year; youâve probably gotten over him and heâs started a new chapter of his life without you.Â
Calum followed the nurse to the recovery room where you were still unconscious. At the sight of you, he instantly lost all air in his lungs. Frozen, the bassist stood before you with a mix of emotions flooding through his face.Â
It was as though you were entirely different but still the same in some way. Your face, albeit bruised, looked more peaceful than Calum had seen of you. Hell, even before you broke things off you always had a furrowed brow or frown of some sort. It broke Calumâs heart to know that he was the cause of that stress.Â
Calum sat down beside you, instantly grasping your hand like second nature. It was just as soft as he could remember, and your nail polish was chipped and stained the skin surrounding it. Calum chuckled to himself, a tearful smile on his face. He knew your nail polish was your own doing, seeing as you had always asked him to paint your nails since he had âmore precision.âÂ
âOh y/n,â he whispered, his voice cracking slightly. âWhat the hell did you get yourself into now?â
âWouldnât you like to know.âÂ
Calum jerked back to see your eyes staring back at him. âHi, stranger,â you managed to crack a smile. âWhat brings you to this hospital?â
Calum choked out a laugh, his thumb grazing against the top of your hand. âOh you know me,â he said. âAlways hanging around these parts whenever I get the chance.âÂ
âYou idiot,â you snorted, shaking your head and wincing in pain.
âEasy now,â Calum reached over to cup your cheek. âThe doctor said you have a mild concussion and a sprained ankle, but nothing a bit of rest canât fix.â
Your hand met his on your face, instantly warming to his touch like nothing had changed between the two of you. âWhy are you here, Hood?â you asked curiously.
âYou tell me.â Calum pulled out his phone and showed his past calls list. âI got a call from the hospital saying I was your emergency contact.âÂ
You dropped his hand and covered your face in embarrassment. If your headache wasnât killing you, the sheer embarrassment was. âOh my God,â you groaned. âIâm so sorry, Calum. I had meant to change it but I never got the chance andââ
âItâs alright,â Calum calmed you down. âRelax. Iâm not mad or anything. If anything, this gave us a great opportunity to reconnect and catch up on things. Itâs been what, a year?â
One year, three months, twenty eight days, and twelve and a half hours, the both of you thought subconsciously. But whoâs counting?Â
The both of you were. Clearly.
âSomething like that,â you lied smoothly. âHow are you? How are the boys? Iâve kept contact with Crys and Sierra, but I havenât had a chance to meet with them both. I was actually planning on shooting them a text as soon as I landed here, but obviously I havenât had the chance.âÂ
Calum laughed at your blunt humor. He missed that a lot about you. âIâm alright,â he replied. âThe boys are great, too. They send their love, by the way. Weâve been cooped up at the studio writing and producing music, though you probably expected that from us.â
Ouch. Was that a dig toward why you broke up with him? âNaturally,â you grinned. âDo I make a special feature in this album? The trashy ex that broke up with the bassist as soon as the tour ended? You best get back to the studio, Iâm sure this whole debacle has given you something to write about.âÂ
âYou are far from trashy,â Calum countered, continuing the light banter. âAnd Iâm not going to throw your dirty laundry out like that, I have some taste, you know.âÂ
âOh come on,â you pressed. âThat hoe called me back, gave me a heart attack,â you sang terribly, making Calum cover his ears. âOh yeah she broke my heart, thatâs not even the start-â
âOi, quit that!â he laughed. âLeave the songwriting to me because good God that was terrible. Any more of that and youâd put me in the hospital bed next to you. And please do not call yourself a hoe. Thatâs worse than Luke calling Ash âdaddy.ââÂ
Once your laughter had died down and you ran out of lyrics to spew, a comfortable silence filled the room. His chocolate brown eyes rested down at your joined hands.Â
âThank you, by the way,â you spoke to break the silence. âFor coming. You didnât have to do that.âÂ
âFor my trashy ex?â he teased, a smirk dancing along his lips. âIâd do anything.âÂ
God why did you break up with him? He was perfect, still is. Why does he still tug at your heartstrings and make you weak with one smile. How could you still feel this way after a whole year? Do you still love him-
âBabe, there you are! This place is a maze, I could barely understand the nurseâs directions.âÂ
You turned your head so fast, you nearly got whiplash again. Standing before you was a beautiful girl with the most luxurious beach waves and tan that every girl dreamed of.Â
She bent down to kiss Calumâs cheek swiftly, making your breath hitch without you realizing. The girl smiled at you, taking your hand -that Calum instantly dropped at the sound of her voice- and squeezing it. âYou must be y/n,â she concluded cheerfully. âIâm Tia, Calumâs friend.âÂ
â
âThey are so not friends,â you grumbled to your friends, days after the initial encounter.Â
Your friends chuckled at your gray demeanor, each of them taking sips of their coffee or bites of their breakfast. After being discharged from the hospital, the band and their significant others thought it would be perfect to catch up with you during brunch. You had agreed, eager to learn about everything you missed, especially the new couple.Â
âYouâd be right and wrong, n/n,â Michael replied, setting his mug down. The group was significantly more relaxed to talk about the subject considering Tia needed to take a phone call and Calum insisted on accompanying her. âThe way theyâre friends isnât the same as how heâs friends with usââ
âSpeak for yourself, baby, Calum keeps my bed warm whenever Sierraâs out,â Luke teased with a wiggle of his eyebrows. Sierra rolled her eyes playfully, elbowing him in the ribs.Â
âAnd Luke keeps mine warm when theyâre both gone,â Ashton chimed in without missing a beat.
Michael sent the youngest and oldest members a glare before continuing. âAs I was saying,â he huffed exasperatedly. âTheyâre in the weird phase between friends and dating. They met a little after the tour and were friends for a while. It was Tia that made the move on Calum, like, two months ago.â
Noticing the stark difference in your facial expressions after hearing Michaelâs explanation, Crystal came in to quickly finish the story. âHe hasnât confirmed or denied anything, but they have been on a few dates. Heâs taking it very slowly.âÂ
âThatâs..nice to hear,â you slowly began. âBut the more I hear about her, the more guilty I feel about feeling this way.â Your shoulders caved in as your friends shared a concerned look. âShe seems sweet, and Calum and I are old news. It was my own decision to break things off in the first place.âÂ
Sierra reached for your hand, squeezing it gently. âWhy did you break things off with him?â she asked in a quieter voice.Â
You couldnât help but notice how the rest of the group leaned in to hear your answer. âYou mean Calum didnât tell you?â you inquired the boys.Â
âHe just said it was mutual,â Ashton raised his hands up in defense. âI didnât know you broke it off with him.âÂ
âWhy didnât you tell us she broke up with Cal?â Luke whisper-shouted to his partner.Â
Sierra only shrugged her shoulders. âI thought you knew,â she responded, her hands grasping around her mug as she took a sip.
âNo one knew,â you settled. âAnd itâs going to stay that way.âÂ
The group let out shouts of disapproval that were instantly quieted once Calum finally returned and took a seat. âWhatâs the fuss about?â he asked curiously.Â
You shook your head, taking an overly healthy sip of your mimosa. âOh you know,â you sighed. âTypical group shenanigans, as per usual.âÂ
âWhat kind-?â he pressed before being curtly interrupted.
âWhereâs Tia?â Luke cut in, saving everyoneâs necks for the time being.Â
Calum took in a draw of breath after stealing Lukeâs cup of coffee, much to the singerâs distaste. âOh you know,â he copied you teasingly. âManager calls, as per usual.âÂ
âSheâs been getting plenty of calls lately,â Crystal commented.Â
You tried to not show immense interest in the conversation. After all, you didnât know much about Tia and the group had been too distracted to show you her Instagram profile, damn Michael and his random tangents. In the meantime, you absentmindedly twirled your straw between your thumb and forefinger as the conversation continued.Â
âTiaâs getting a lot of public interest, what can I say?â Calum responded. âHer videos are getting more views every day. Her managerâs been calling her nonstop since companies keep reaching out to offer brand deal after brand deal.âÂ
Ashton let out a hopeful sigh. âImagine having a brand deal set for life,â he pondered aloud, setting his salad fork down. âIâd adopt more goats and expand the garden.âÂ
âCool it, Old McDonald,â Michael snickered. âI canât imagine the band doing brand deals. Remember One Direction and their Pepsi commercials during the Super Bowl? Louis hated them.âÂ
The table laughed, recalling the memory. Recognizing your confusion regarding Tiaâs profession, Sierra leaned in. âSheâs an Instagram influencer and interior designer. She went to school for design but has branched out since. Last time I browsed her page she was doing promos for some yoga company.âÂ
âGreat, so sheâs perfect,â you grumbled to yourself, quiet enough for only Ashton to hear since he was right beside you. The drummer snorted, elbowing you roughly.Â
Calum, thankfully deaf to your comment, nodded along to Sierraâs explanation. âSheâs great,â he hummed.Â
Your heart clenched at his words, but a hopeful side of yourself couldnât help but perk at his courtness. Of course, it could be just to spare your feelings to not speak much about her. But a selfish part in your mind wondered if it was because she wasnât his missing piece, the way that you fit perfectly for him.Â
Stop that, you scolded yourself. Calum is no longer yours, you made sure of that. You were the selfish one who pushed him away. Why do you continue to torture him when heâs finally happy, no thanks to you. You canât continue to pull him back, thatâs why you broke up with him. And here you are, falling back into old habits.Â
You blinked back your tears, the tears you had so desperately fought back since the day you broke up with him. You didnât deserve to shed these tears when you caused the problem in the first place. Instead, you sucked in a breath and maintained your rigid composure. Itâs better than falling apart, which you more than desperately wanted to do at the moment.Â
ây/n, you alright?â Calum asked, breaking you from your trance.Â
You jumped slightly, lifting your head to face the group. Forcing a smile, you nodded. âPerfectly fine.âÂ
â
You werenât sure why you were called here. After becoming mutuals on Instagram (and thoroughly stalking her pristine profile) Tia was quick to invite you out for yoga. You werenât too keen on attempting yoga with a certified instructor, much preferring to save face in front of the already perfect girl. However, you found her nice and sweet enough to befriend despite the heartache it caused you.Â
âIâm really glad you agreed to come with me today,â Tia told you honestly as you finished your session for the day.Â
You settled yourself onto the mat, easing yourself into a simple stretch. âIâm glad you offered,â you replied, grunting at the ache panging slightly in your ankle. You were careful not to apply extra stress on your injured foot since it was still tender to the touch at times. âIâve been eager to relax, especially after that accident.âÂ
âAnd you deserve it,â Tia reassured you, beginning her own routine. âYogaâs good for recovery and stress, Iâve always tried to convince Cal into joining but he wasnât the most graceful learner.âÂ
You giggled, recalling how clumsy the bassist would be. âYeah, Iâd leave that to Ashton.âÂ
Tia nodded in agreement. Her fingers danced down her leg as she continued to stretch. Even as jealous as you were of her, you had to admit she was graceful in everything she did (and you were sure of it with a simple browse through her Tiktoks).Â
The two of you stepped out of the yoga studio, mats in tow as you continued to talk about random nonsense. On the walk back to your friendâs house -you had been staying there for the time being-, you came to realize that Tia was as genuine as they come and found it very difficult to dislike her out of jealousy.Â
âSo you know how Cal and I met,â Tia began, referencing the story of how the two met at an awards show. âHow did you and Calum meet and get together?âÂ
Your mouth went dry. She knew you and Calum were a thing in the past? âI-â you stammered.Â
Tia laughed at your sudden awkwardness. âIâm not dumb, you know,â she joked. âI knew about yours and Calâs past. He talks a lot about you, you know? More now than ever now that youâre back.âÂ
You had to stop the butterflies forming in your stomach. âHe does?â you catch yourself saying instantly.Â
Tia nodded, uncapping her bottle and taking a sip of water. âOh yeah, big time,â she answered. âItâs really sweet to know that you made such a big impact on his life.âÂ
Your cheeks began to warm at her words. âHe did the same,â you responded with full honesty. Tia patted your shoulder and grinned. âTo answer your question, I met Calum a little over ten years ago, once the band started getting famous. I was just a senior in high school when they moved to L.A. I interned at their studio and thatâs how we formally met.â
Tia gave you an impressed nod. âYou guys got history,â she mused.Â
You couldnât help but smile. The memories of the past always brought a smile to your face. Dyeing Michaelâs hair and staining your bathtub red, constantly buying Ash bandanas whenever you came across one you knew heâd like. Luke coming to you when he had writerâs block, and Cal crawling through your bedroom window whenever he felt homesick and wanted someone to talk to.Â
âWe do,â you agreed.Â
Turning a corner down the street, Tia continued to ask you questions. âWho asked who out?â she questioned. âThree years of being friends turned partners was clearly not an overnight thing.âÂ
âIt wasnât,â you said. âIt was Calum who asked me, but it took a whole lot of convincing from the boys.â You laughed quietly to yourself, recalling how he asked you to be your girlfriend.Â
You heard music playing softly in the night air. You had been studying nonstop for your college finals and hadnât seen the outside of your dorm all day. You hadnât called the boys in a while either since theyâve been touring the world after releasing Sounds Good Feels Good. You were significantly proud of them but youâd be lying if you said you didnât miss your boys. Now, hearing the soft guitar strumming from outside your window made you feel more longingful for them than ever.Â
Especially Calum. You had a soft spot for the bassist, everyone knew that. You spent the most time with him when you interned at the music studio. He trusted your opinion above everyone elseâs, and reached out to you the most while on tour. To say you had a little crush on him would be an understatement. The boys teased you relentlessly and teased Calum much more. They always said it was a matter of time until one of you would cave in and confess to the other. But they were wrong. Youâre here in a small college dorm with no air conditioning single as can be while the boy you loved was halfway across the world.Â
âThinking of you,â you texted Calum with a heavy heart. âAnd the boys, ofc :PâÂ
You set your phone down and attempted to go back to studying when your phone pinged again.Â
âYou donât have to feel so blue, n/n,â he responded. âLook outsideâ
You hopped out of bed and opened your window as much as the old rusty thing could go. On the campus grass were your favorite boys flashing lights from their phones at you. Calum was resting on Ashtonâs shoulders, waving at you with the wild boyish smile you loved with your entire being. Michael and Luke were beside him, Michael playing the guitar and Luke grinning and filming.Â
Concentrating hard, you recognized the sweet melody. It was the very song you wrote with him, Beside You.Â
âShe sleeps alone
My heart wants to come home
I wish I was, I wish I was
Beside youâ
Your heart did somersaults at the presentation before you. You had always begged Calum to sing more for the album but the boy was too shy. It took some pushing but you helped him get his confidence up. Taking a cardigan, you ran out of your hall and joined the boys on the lawn, tackling each of them into a hug.Â
âWhat the hellâs wrong with you!â you shouted out with a grin. You didnât care if your yelling woke up your peers. Your boys were here in the flesh.Â
âWe missed our girl,â Ashton told you, giving you a strong bear hug.Â
âOne of us more than the rest,â Luke added with a cheeky smirk.Â
Calum had long been off Ashtonâs shoulders, awaiting your hugs he missed so much. You, on the other hand, hesitated to do so.Â
âCome on!â Michael playfully shoved you. âWeâve come all this way, give the boy a hug!âÂ
Your face was on fire. The extra pairs of eyes made you embarrassed. Calum took an extra step forward, his hands bashfully in his pockets.Â
âDidnât you miss me, sunshine?â he asked you, awfully shy now after his confession of love. He was nervous he put you off and that he read the signs wrong.Â
âI did,â you whispered back, equally shy. âBut I think I want something more than a hug.âÂ
The boys let out whoops and cheers of joy as you decided to bite the bullet, grabbing Calum by the loops of his jeans and pulling him into a kiss.
Once you had pulled away, Calumâs lips formed into a dazed smile. âBe my girl, sunshine?â he asked you softly.
You pressed your lips against his once again, though this one was much shorter. âI was always yours, Calum.â
âWhy did you and him end things, y/n?â Tia asked you, bringing you out of your thoughts. You seemed to be stuck in a trance these days, always pondering over the past and what could have been.Â
You chewed the inside of your cheek, truly at a loss of words. What could you say? That you had been selfish and pushed him away so that he wouldnât end up hurting you first? That you drove the knife deep into Calum, twisting it in every way shape and form out of self preservation? There was no other way to put it than that in your mind.Â
âTime heals but also kills,â you told her with a broken smile. âCal and I decided to put ourselves out of our misery and end things while they were good before it got worse.â It wasnât completely a lie. Sure, he had no say in your ending things, but you spoke the truth about putting him out of his misery.
âDo you still love him?â she asked.Â
You glanced over at her. Her eyes shone in the light, curious and innocent. She didnât know the pain you both had endured that landed you in this position.Â
Yes, your heart cried out. You love him. You love him with your entire being, thatâs why you let him go. Because youâd rather kill your soul every single day of your life than stop him from reaching his life goals. If you had to go through that awful night that you broke your own heart again, you would, just to ensure that he is happy.Â
Even if that meant that he would be happy with someone else.Â
âHeâs my first love,â you told her tearfully. âOf course I love him. But I am not his love, and that is okay with me. Life goes on, and so should I.âÂ
The two of you stopped in front of your friendâs house. Tia took your hand and squeezed it. âI really do appreciate you coming along with me today,â she said earnestly. âAnd Iâm glad I got to hear about you and Calâs history. It really puts things into perspective.âÂ
You smiled back at her. âThank you for having me,â you responded. âI hope my words havenât changed anything between the two of you. I meant what I said; him and I are in the past. I truly want the both of us to move forward and grow in our own separate ways.âÂ
Your butterflies in your stomach turned into fierce wasps, stinging you sharply. Lies, your heart hissed. Tell her you love him and still want him.Â
You forced the bile rising in your throat down. Tia, blind to your inner troubles, continued to speak. âThatâs actually what I wanted to ask you,â she chuckled nervously. She grabbed your other hand, bringing them together.Â
âI wanted to ask Cal to be my boyfriend,â Tia confessed.
Crack. There goes your heart.
Tia seemed to notice the dip in your lips and immediately retracted. âBut I donât want to overstep or anything!â she rushed. âYou and Cal have history, Iâm not stupid enough to deny it. And thatâs okay, thatâs no oneâs fault. If you still love him and want him, Iâm not going to get in the way. Calum, well, itâs clear he loves you, too. Iâve heard countless amounts of stories about you to not get the memo. I really like Cal, I do. But that canât go up against love.âÂ
This was your chance. To right your wrongs from the past and take back what you truly wanted. Calum. You could take this moment to run to his house right now and take him back, and youâd have Tiaâs full support. Zero guilt.Â
But why did it hurt so bad?Â
No. You made your bed, you have to sleep in it. It doesnât matter if the bed was built of blades of self doubt and hate, you have to slip into the sharp sheets and let it pierce through your skin. You created your own mess. It is you alone that must deal with it. Not Calum, and surely not Tia.Â
Youâve made enough problems for everyone as is.Â
You mustered enough strength to let go of Tiaâs hands and instead cup her cheeks. âTia, honey,â you whispered calmly. âOur love is in the past. Iâve missed my chance, and I have learned to live with it. Iâve seen the way Calum looks at you, and thatâs something that can blossom into something beautiful. Thereâs no need to dig up something that has already run its course.âÂ
Tiaâs lip trembled at your words. You nodded carefully. âYou donât need my permission or anything to date Calum. You donât owe me anything. You both deserve to be happy, and clearly you make each other happy.â
âAre you sure?â Tia asked. âI promise you, it wonât hurt my feelings or anything if you still want him.âÂ
âNo, Tia,â you reassured her, despite the burning feeling in your chest. âPlease, make him happy. Make him happier than I could ever make him. He deserves that much.âÂ
â
Two weeks have passed since your encounter with Tia. Last thing you heard was that the two were very happy indeed, but you didnât hear if they made it official. You had plenty of dates with the girls, but you insisted on changing the subject whenever they brought Calum up. You feared that if you heard about him one more time, you might burst into tears or do something stupid.Â
You finished up your work from the office in your friendâs house. Grateful to be able to work from home for the time you stayed in L.A., you had to admit that sitting on a chair from 9 to 5 made you quite sore. Eager to stretch your legs, you decided to take a walk to the local park.Â
However, it wasnât any random park. It was the place you and Cal used to have endless dates when he was back from tour or the studio. Youâd lay on the blanket he took from his apartment at the time and stare at the stars. Back when you both didnât have much, youâd snack on soup crackers you took from each time you went to the diner across the street and share a can of Coke Cal took from the vending machine after work. So many secrets were shared at this park, and so many memories were made, too.Â
âIâm glad to know Iâm not the only one who still frequents this place.âÂ
You jumped to see the last person you expected at this place. Calum gave you a bashful smile before sitting beside you on the grass. You took in the last hour of sun beaming down your skin before the sky went dark, closing your eyes and tuning out the sound of the infamous L.A. traffic.Â
âHow can I not?â you quipped. âThis park is the only place in L.A. that isnât stuffy or gross.â
Calum let out a laugh, quietly agreeing with you. âSo what brings you here, Hood?â you asked, nudging his shoulder.Â
The bassist could only shrug his shoulders. âCould say the same about you,â he hummed. âSometimes I like to sit here and write music. Other times I just sit here and listen to the ambiance.â You nodded, crossing your arms on your chest and making sure to keep a safe distance from him. His touch was mesmerizing, but you had to remind yourself that he was no longer yours.Â
âThis place reminds me to stay grounded,â he told you truthfully. âWhen I get too in my head, I always go here, even after we broke up.âÂ
You dropped your hands to the grass, braiding the blades absentmindedly. âIâm glad,â you spoke up. Calum looked over at you, awaiting an explanation. âItâs too good of a place to let go after a silly little relationship.âÂ
âIt wasnât a silly little-â Calum fought back.Â
âLetâs not talk about it, Cal,â you sighed exasperatedly.Â
Calum instantly frowned. âWhy not?â he pressed. âYou never seem to want to talk about the good old days.â
âBecause it wasnât âthe good old days,ââ you insisted, lying through your teeth.Â
Calum let out a stubborn huff. âNow thatâs a lie,â Calum shot back. âBut whatever, I wonât push.â A pregnant silence took over the two of you as Calum tried to find something to say. âHave you found yourself a new boyfriend yet?â he decided to ask.Â
âCalum-â you began.
âYou said not to bring up the past,â Calum argued. âThis is the best I can do.âÂ
You shook your head at his words, giving in nonetheless. âNo, I donât,â you answered.Â
âAre you not ready for one?â he asked.Â
âI-â You took a moment to find the right words. âI need to work on myself before moving forward with someone else.âÂ
âWell, I donât get that,â Calum commented with a snort. âYouâre perfect, what could you possibly work on?â
You choked out a dry laugh, though there was no humor behind it. âQuite a bit, Iâd say,â you confessed. âCalum, I was a mess, I still am. I canât put someone through that again.âÂ
âYou didnât put me through anything,â Calum persisted. âAnd now that you mention us, I canât recall anything that you did wrong in that relationship. It was all me.â
âNo Calum!â you raised your voice, standing up abruptly. He quickly followed, standing up to meet your frustrated, tired eyes. âIt was me. And Iâm tired of you insisting otherwise.âÂ
âYou said that I was always gone,â Calum reminded you, his voice matching the same volume as yours. âI donât see anything that involves you in that.âÂ
You threw your hands in the air. âBecause I was needy!â you exclaimed. âAnd I was pushy, and I hated being alone all the timeââ
âBut Iâm right here!â he yelled back. You took a step back in shock. He was never one to raise his voice at you, even when you fought in the past. It was your throat that got raw in those arguments from having a shouting match against yourself and losing hopelessly. âGoddammit y/n Iâm right here. And I promised you that night that I would always be here if thatâs what you wanted.âÂ
Tears began to stream down your face as you pulled your hair in anger. âYou donât understand, Calum,â you cried out.Â
âThen help me understand!â Calum took a step closer to you, taking your hands in his. His brown eyes were desperate, searching yours for an answer. âPlease, sunshine, let me in.âÂ
For a moment, you almost faltered. You nearly gave in at his sweet words and use of that old nickname. But Tia remained in the back of your mind, and guilt sunk in once more.
You released yourself from his touch, looking away from his eyes. âYou canât call me that anymore,â you whispered to him. âI canât, Calum. I just canât.âÂ
Calum watched you back away hopelessly. ây/n,â he sighed.
âIâm leaving for Boston in two days,â you told him. âIâm sure Ash told you that already, though. I overstayed my welcome at my friendâs house. I should start packing.â
The bassist followed you to the gate of the park. âBut I feel like we should talk about this,â Calum pleaded.Â
Your fingertips grazed the gate, the cool metal sending shivers down your spine. âIâll see you at the party, Calum.âÂ
âÂ
When you told the boys the date you were going back to Boston, Ashton jumped at the opportunity to throw you a goodbye party. In addition to catching up with you and spending every moment available with you, the boys insisted on planning the âbiggest party of the centuryâ for your departure.Â
âI still donât see the necessity for all of this,â you told the three boys with a shake of your head.Â
âTrust us,â Ashton said with a wild grin. âWe all need this.âÂ
So here you were, casually sipping your cocktail in the corner of Ashtonâs home while their exquisite rager took the house by storm. Sierra and Crystal stayed by your side throughout the night, insisting to keep up with each other while you were away. This time, you made sure to not end contact with them the way you did last time. Tia had also been in the group but left some time ago to deal with something.Â
âAre you sure you have to leave?â Luke asked, pouting dramatically. âL.A. isnât the same without you here, n/n.âÂ
You ruffled his hair playfully. The singer was always a little brother to you, no matter how close in age the two of you were. âI do, bub,â you said in a sorry voice. âI donât think my boss could stand another week without me in the studio.âÂ
âThen move back to this location!â Michael proposed, raising his glass and nearly spilling his drink on the floor. âTransferring wouldnât be a bad idea, would it? The studio would love to have you back, producing and doing whatever else you do.âÂ
You laughed at Michaelâs drunken state. You were having a lot of fun relishing in the last few moments with your friends before leaving them once again. You almost didnât realize the shouting that was going on in the dining room of Ashtonâs home.Â
The entire group ran to the source of the noise to find Calum standing on the dining table with Tia pleading for him to get down.
âCalum, babe, please,â Tia shouted. âYouâre causing a scene.âÂ
All guests turned to see what was going on, especially to see why the bassist of 5 Seconds of Summer was shouting complete intelligible nonsense.Â
Ashton ran towards the edge of the table. âMate, you need to get down,â he begged hurriedly. âYouâre not thinking straight, you need to get down before you get hurt.â
âNo,â Calum insisted, his words slurring slightly due to his inebriated state. âI need everyone to listen to me.âÂ
Someone had managed to find the speaker and turn it off so everyone could hear Calum. Your heart was beating out of your chest, not from the alcohol buzzing through your system, but because of the drunk boy standing before you.Â
Calum raised his cup to the crowd. âIâd like to raise a toast to the girl who broke my heart,â he announced sloppily. âThe âheartbreak girlâ herself, y/n l/n.â Calum clapped loudly. He was the only one who was clapping while you stood there in shock and humiliation. âI loved you, you know?â he sniffed. âAnd I bloody well still do. Tiaâs great, though. Absolutely nothing wrong with you, Tia, I hope you know that. But youâre not the one. y/n right here, sheâs the one.âÂ
His brown eyes, red from drinking and smoking God knows what, teared up as he looked down at you. âBut what I canât figure out is why wonât she love me?â Calum threw back the rest of his drink and winced at how strong it was. âI was getting ready to propose to you, you know?â he told you. âI had the ring in my pocket, and I was just waiting for the perfect moment.â Calum chuckled to himself bitterly. âGuess I fucked that up tremendously.â
âCalum, stop,â you pleaded.Â
âWhy should I?â he asked you incredulously. âYou didnât stop packing your things when I asked you to. You didnât stop running when I chased after you in the dark. You didnât stop when you booked that flight across the country to run away from me.âÂ
Tears were streaming down your face now. âIt wasnât like that, Cal,â you cried. âW-we broke up for a reason-â
âAnd thatâs what I canât wrap my head around!â he shouted. âYou barely gave me a reason! You told me you never saw me anymore. I was willing to make more time for you, to end my career for you, to get down on one knee and be with you, and that wasnât enough! There had to be another reason-â
âThere wasnât, Cal!â you sobbed. âSo drop it, please.âÂ
Silence spread throughout the whole house. No one moved an inch, too shocked to make a single sound or move. All that could be heard was the sounds of your messy sobs that you failed to keep in. Cal dropped his cup and gestured his hands at you.Â
âThe Heartbreak Girl, everyone,â he announced with a broken sigh. âHope you enjoyed this one hell of a show, with your heartbroken host, Calum Thomas Hood.â
You ran out of the house as fast as your feet could take you. The air was brisk in your lungs, but you didnât care. You couldnât care when the man you loved poured his heart out to you, only for you to squash it like it was nothing.Â
ây/n!â you heard a voice call out for you. You whipped around to see Tia, scrambling to catch up to you. In the back, you could see the band -minus Calum- and their significant others peering out the glass door to see what was going on.Â
Tia grabbed your hand tightly. ây/n, fuck, Iâm so sorry about Calum,â she apologized, swearing profusely. âI donât know whatâs gotten into him. First we were talking about our relationship then-â
âPlease, donât bring up your relationship,â you cut her off, roughly shaking your head. âI know I gave you my blessing, but please I canât bear to get my heart broken again.âÂ
âYou donât understand!â Tia pushed. âWe donât have a relationship to begin with! y/n, I never asked Calum to be my boyfriend, I just couldnât. I couldnât interfere with a love as great as yours and his.â
You stumbled backwards. âWhat?âÂ
Tia nodded, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. ây/n, you and Calum are endgame, donât you see? I only talked to him tonight to explain that you still loved him. I guess he was too caught up in the alcohol to think rationally.âÂ
âTia,â you said, voice dripping in disappointment and dread. âThat wasnât your secret to tell him.â
âWere you going to say anything?â she shot back. âYou werenât, so I had to take matters into my own hands. n/n, Iâm a firm believer in fate and second chances. This is your chance at making everything right-âÂ
âBut I canât!â you cried, ripping your hand away from hers. âDonât you get it? Iâm the one thatâs killing him! I put him through hell and I canât continue to do that. Why canât you see that Iâm a fucked up mess that ruins everything I touch? I love Calum, Iâll never stop loving him, but Iâm not blind enough to not see that my love is torturing him slowly.â
You pinched the bridge of your nose in frustration. Tears reappeared in the corner of your eyes, but you were too tired to wipe them away. âIâm never going to be enough for Calum,â you confessed. âThatâs why I broke up with him. I canât watch him waste his life away on a girl thatâs only going to disappoint him. Iâm not like you, Tia. Iâm not perfect, or beautiful, or smart, or anything remotely interesting. And one day, Calum is going to see that and realize he missed his opportunity to find someone good for him, someone that he deserves.
âI donât deserve him, Tia,â you finished in a broken whisper. âI never will. So Iâd rather fade into the background and be a distant memory than become a face he canât stand to look at.âÂ
âThatâs not true,â Tia insisted, tears gracefully falling down her beautiful face. ây/n, you have to believe me when I say thatâs not true.â
A car drove down the street, approaching the two of you. You let out a sigh of relief, recognizing it as your uber. âI donât have to believe you,â you replied, opening the car door. âMy word is all that I need.â
â
Calum woke up the next day with a pounding headache. He groaned aloud, sitting up on the couch and cradling his head. He wished he was drunk enough that night to forget everything that happened, but he remembered every single detail. From the beat of the bass from the stereo to the way your dress hugged your curves he loved to kiss and hold.Â
He finally pushed you away, he realized. And for good, this time. Calum felt dread and regret rush through his system, and all he wanted was to crawl into his bed and sleep his life away.Â
âYou know grumbling isnât going to cure a hangover,â Tiaâs reprimanding voice rang through the living room.Â
Tia. Calum jumped up to face her where she had been leaning against the door frame.
âOh Ti,â he sighed, covering his face in embarrassment. âIâm so sorry for last night, I must have humiliated you. Iâm a right idiot, and Iâm so sorry I put you through that.âÂ
âOh shut up,â Tia laughed, walking over to him and sitting him down. âI canât say that I wasnât hurt, but I also canât say I was surprised with how things turned out.â Calum hung his head low, ashamed of his behavior. He never wanted to hurt either of you. âCal, you donât have to be so sullen. Itâs okay, thereâs no hard feelings or bad blood between us.â
When Calum couldnât bring himself to respond, Tia decided to take it a step further. âI always knew you loved her,â she confessed. âThatâs why I brought it up to you last night. I wanted both of you to work things out. She really does love you.âÂ
Calum let out a bitter laugh. âShe sure has a way of showing it,â he muttered. âTia, donât make me feel worse by feeding me lies. It hurts enough that I hurt both of you, donât make it worse by saying that bullshit.âÂ
âIâm telling the truth!â she fought back. ây/n still loves you, she told me that herself.â
âThen why did she break up with me?â Calum retorted. âIf her love never left the table, where was it when she broke things off? Correct me if Iâm wrong, Tia, but I donât think thatâs how you treat the people you supposedly love.âÂ
Tia screwed her eyes shut, heaving out a sigh. âShe loved you so much, she thought you deserved more,â Tia finally explained. âShe let you go so that you could find someone better, someone who makes you happier.âÂ
âThat doesnât make sense,â Calum shook his head, eyebrows furrowed in thought. âHow could she think that? No one could be better than her, um, no offense.â Tia snorted at the last part. âIf anything, I thought I didnât deserve her.â
âWell youâre both idiots,â Tia deadpanned. âYou two clearly love each other more than life itself but were too blind to see you were perfect for each other.âÂ
Calumâs shoulders caved in as he drowned in his thoughts. His hangover headache was piercing his skull but he couldnât care less. He couldnât process why youâd ever think so lowly of yourself when he praised the ground you walk on.Â
âHow can I go back to her and repair things when I never realized she was hurting?â he asked. âWhy would she ever want me back when I wasnât there at her lowest? All the signs were there. She stopped calling me every night to talk about her day while I was away. Sheâd dodge my Facetimes with bullshit excuses that I failed to point out.â Calum huffed to himself, beating himself up critically. âWhat makes you think I wonât fuck up again when she needs me?â
âBecause youâve learned from your mistakes before,â Tia told him, rubbing his arm soothingly. âAnd you can learn from them again. Thatâs what I like about you, Cal. You always made an effort to better yourself, no matter the challenge. And if you truly love her, youâre going to end up fine.âÂ
Calum smiled softly at Tiaâs words, raising his chin to look her in the eyes. âI love her so much,â he whispered. The bassist took her hand, squeezing it affectionately. âIâm sorry things didnât work out with us, Ti,â he apologized genuinely. âI really do hope you find someone who is willing to lay down their life for you.âÂ
âIâve watched two lovers reconnect like no time has passed at all,â Tia smiled back. âTrust me, I have the groundwork laid out for whatâs ahead of me.âÂ
Suddenly, Calumâs phone began to ring. Lunging towards the arm of the couch, Calum pulled his phone off the charger and read the caller ID. Eyes wide, he looked at Tia who gave him a knowing look.Â
âIâll start the car.âÂ
â
You opened your eyes, immediately squinting at the bright light. You were met once again with the familiar feeling of a skull splitting headache and aching ankle.Â
âMust you always get yourself into these situations?âÂ
You turned to face those brown eyes and cheeky smile you adored. Calum shook his head in disbelief, taking your hand in his. âI thought you said youâd change your emergency contact,â he said in a scolding tone.Â
Your face was on fire at his words. âI forgot,â you told him honestly.Â
Once again, you ended up in the hospital with similar injuries to what you received at the beginning of your trip. But instead of a car accident, youâd clumsily fallen down the stairs on the way to your Uber to the airport. Luckily a neighbor next door heard the ruckus and loaded you into the Uber straight to the hospital.Â
âOr itâs fate,â Calum suggested, resting his hand on the side of your head.Â
âCalum,â you tried to counter.
He stopped you instantly. âI know why you ended things,â he simply told you. âAnd I think I deserve a say in it.â Closing your mouth, you let him speak. âYouâre wrong, y/n. You do deserve me as much as I deserve you. And I love you no matter what. I donât need a famous celebrity as my partner when I have you in my life. None of that superficial stuff matters to me, y/n, you know that. And I know that for as long as I live and you forget to change your emergency contact list, Iâll always come for you.âÂ
Your heart fluttered, and you allowed yourself to feel hope for the both of you. âBut what if someday down the line you want more?â you asked in a small voice.Â
Calum blinked away his tears. âWhat more can I want?â he said in response. âYouâre all I want, y/n. Iâm so sorry I ever made you doubt that.âÂ
âDonât apologize,â you laughed, tears beginning to fall, too. âIt was my stupid brain that made me doubt in the first place.âÂ
Calum leaned in, his lips brushing against yours. âSo is that it?â he asked. âAre we done doubting? Will you finally come home, y/n? Be with me forever?âÂ
You raised your hand to cup his cheek. He instinctively leaned into your touch. âWith you,â you told him surely. âIâm always home. Iâm yours, Calum Hood.âÂ

you sigh as you put your earbuds in to tune out the sound of the man in the front seat belting the lyrics of âwe belong togetherâ by mariah carey with the brunette in the passenger seat.
you couldnât help but let your eyes linger on the man. his blond, curly hair, just long enough to rest above his eyes, the stubble on his face that hadnât been shaven in at least two weeks, that pointy nose that was sculpted by the gods, and those ocean blue eyes.
you loved looking into those eyes.
he was your best friend, he was the one constant in your life and now he feels like a stranger.
youâre taken out of your trance when calum nudges your shoulder. âyou okay?â he mouths. you nod quickly offering him a smile, looking back down to the book you were reading.
calum sighs, he reaches for his phone and types up a quick message.
-âyou sure? you were staring again, y/n..â
-âiâm fine, cal. swear.â
calum huffs but leaves it at that. the two in the front continue belting out the lyrics and calum keeps an eye on you for the rest of the drive.
you shouldâve said no, you wanted to say no and stay home where at least youâd be free of the torture. but, with calum being calum he begged you until you agreed. just like he did when he convinced you to open up for them on tour in the early days.
if you had said no then, maybe none of this wouldâve happened.
âluke..i..â you wiped your eyes, it was so hard for you to hear that when you had spent all your life with him only to lose him in the end. âiâm sorry.â
luke shook his head, âno, iâm sorry.â
he stands there, looking at you with sorrowful eyes. he can feel himself tearing up but the moment is interrupted by sierra busting through the door. âthere you are!â she says, walking over to your side, her hand finding your arm. âare you okay, hon?â her eyes soften, noticing your tears.
you donât say anything but you nod, looking away while the girl side hugs you. âdid luke bother you? i told him specifically to not take away your spotlight tonightâ she says in a teasing matter and you laugh softly. but luke doesnât seem too amused.
âokay, well the guys are ready so whenever youâre ready, lukeâ sierra says, removing herself from your side then going back inside the club.
âso, what should we do?â luke ask, watching as you wipe your eyes once more. you shrug, ânothing, youâre with sierra. my feelings mean nothing anymore.â
your eyes flutter open as you feel someone shaking you gently, ây/n, wake up we made itâ you look at calum then begin stretching out as you look around. you see the tall palm trees as you can smell the breeze of saltwater wafting in from the open doors.
you step out of the vehicle and begin stretching while the others, ashton, michael, and crystal arrive in the other car as you gather your items from the backseat and pack them into your carry on, luke has already begun unpacking the car. âhereâs your bags, y/nâ he says, you donât skip a beat to bend down to take your bags and head for the entrance of the beach house and not bat an eye at him.
calum and ashton shared a room, the two couples had their own room, so you were left alone. not that you minded at all, it gave you time to think and have you time. if it ever got too overwhelming, you had your own space.
after spending some time unpacking, you decided to head out of your room and put your toiletries in the bathroom. as you stepped out, you saw everyone gathered around the island in the kitchen, sierra jutting down whatever the other guys were saying. âoh! y/n!â ashton announces which then causes the others to look your way. âweâre making a grocery list. is there anything specific you need?â he adds.
you walk over to the island, standing across from them. âwell, what do you have down so far?â
âwe have breakfast foodsâŚum some stuff for dinner for the nights we donât eat outâŚsnacksâŚâ sierra begins listing off everything she had written down with a point of the pen.
âsounds like you got everything thenâ you hum, with a nod. âone more thingâ she adds, âdo you care to go with me?â
you look at the sierra across from you and smile softly, âsure. is crystal going too?â the brunette shakes her head, âher and mike went to the beach already. just us twoâ she smiles awkwardly. âoh, thatâs fine. let me get changed and we can head outâ you force a smile as you walk out of the kitchen to your bedroom.
the drive to the supermarket was quiet, your eyes glued to the road while sierra did whatever she was doing. given the circumstances, there was a little tension between the two of you and it was very hard for you to deal with.
you really liked sierra, she was a kind soul who saw the good in a lot of things. she had always been there to cheer you up, and you had considered her your best friend. but after that night at the open mic, everything changed.
the drive felt like it lasted forever, but eventually, you arrived at the supermarket.
pushing the shopping cart through the isles while sierra was looking at the list, you occasionally would drop some items in the basket that you wanted for yourself or, you and sierra both agreed on it.
âi really miss hanging out with you..â sierra says, standing at the end of the shopping cart in the drink aisle with you.
you look at her, smiling sadly. âi know, i miss it too. just..work has been..workâ you try laughing it off. âi can help, you know. i write songs tooâ she says. you nod, dropping a case of wine in the cart. âi know, i just donât want to bother youâ you shrug, and begin pushing the cart until the next isle.
you hear sierra sigh, giving you theâyou sound ridiculousâ. look. ây/n, it won't bother me! youâre my friend and iâd love to help outâ you chuckle softly, âokay fine. after this trip weâll work together.â you cave, and sierra claps her hands quietly with a big smile on her lips.
as the two of you stroll down the isle of chips and other snacks, your eyes catch the package of a certain snack you hadnât seen in years. âoh my god!â you announce, letting go of the cart to pickup the bag. âwhat is it?â the other girl asks. âlookâ you say, showing the bag to her. âi havenât seen these in years!â
memories wash over you like a wave as you stare at the packaging. âwhat are they?â she questions. âthese are lukeâs favorite! back on tour, we used to keep stashes of these in the busâ you laugh, grabbing an extra bag to also put it in the cart. âwe could eat up to two or three bags in a day, the other guys would always get onto us..â you laugh, reminiscing.
âoh really?â sierra didnât know this. she didnât know his favorite snacks or drinks. she didnât know how he would bounce his leg when he had a lyric on his mind and needed to write it down, she didnât know that when he picked at his face subconsciously it meant he was worried. she didnât know lukeâs favorite movie, she didnât know that he only wears certain rings, rings you got him. she didnât know that when luke got quiet it meant he was thinking hard about something. she doesnât know that luke keeps a song journal with some of his deepest feelings.
but you do.
you know all of this.
by the time you and sierra had arrived at the beach house, the sky was already turning dark. you had taken a couple of bags out of the back and began heading inside. âguys, we need helpâ you announce, dropping the bags on the kitchen counter.
you turn around see the other five standing up from their seats and going outside, and you follow suit.
it took you, sierra, and the other five to haul the rest of the groceries back inside and to unpack. but thankfully, it was only one trip.
while sierra was handing you boxes of cereal, luke hollered, âoh my god!â everyone whips their heads around, startled by his abrupt yell. âwhat is it?â ashton asks, and luke grinned holding up the bag of snacks before ripping into them letting the smell waft into his nostrils, letting the memories flood back. âitâs the snacks we used to eat!â
you smile, seeing his reaction as he reaches in for a handful, stuffing it in his mouth. âwhere did you find these? i thought they discontinued them!â he says with a mouth full.
you laugh, walking over and take a couple for yourself. âdont talk with your mouth full, and donât eat em all because once that bag is gone, youâre donezo. the other one is mineâ you taunt earning a frown the from curly-haired man.
sierra watches, she sees how his eye has lit up. she sees and you were suddenly beaming with happiness upon seeing lukes smile.
the next evening, everyone had wanted to go out to dinner to celebrate your second album as a release party. you, however, wanted to stay back as you weren't feeling it but ashton practically demanded and dragged you out of bed and told you to get ready. âokay, okay!! iâll get ready..â you groan as ashton pushes you into the bathroom, you can hear a victory laugh from him as the door shuts.
you look up, seeing yourself in the mirror knowing you should be excited to go out and celebrate the release of your second album. you had a good following and people who were anticipating your release. but you just werenât feeling it, probably because all of the songs were about your best friend.
but, you just werenât looking forward to dinner or the release party.
you step out of your bedroom smoothing out your dress, which is a dark navy blue. you see everyone else standing in the kitchen or sitting on the sofa in their outfits. the guys in their suits, and crystal and sierra in a dress similar to yours, but crystals was red, and sierra was black.
âready? oh? youâre matching with luke!â ashton laughs, as he stands up from the sofa, pointing to lukeâs tie.
you look at lukeâs tie, feeling extra awkward now, âoh..â you say. âyou okay?â calum asks, âyup, everyone ready?â you change the subject, and they all nod and head out for the night.
all seven of you sat together at a large table at a nice restaurant, ashton and calum had planned it nicely and were sure that the table was in a private area.
you had already finished appetizers when michael spoke up. âdo you remember when we first toured?â he asks.
âyeah..â calum and ashton say, you nod. âwhat was your favorite part of tour?â he asks. everyone falls silent while they think, âdefinitely all the drinkingâ calum answers, you laugh and shake your head, âyou were a nightmare.â
âdefinitelyâ luke agrees with you.
âoh, soundchecks were fun. messing with managersâ michael answers.
âi liked songwriting, i wrote some of my favorite songs on tour with you guys.â you smile, remembering all the good times. âperforming was kinda cool tooâ you laugh.
everyone smiles, you hear calums âawâ and you just roll your eyes.
âwhat about you, luke?â ashton asks.
luke thinks for a moment, but he isnât too sure how to answer it. âi think i enjoyed performing the most, it was good experience.â michael nods, âtrueâ he agrees.
then the table falls silent again when entrees arrive. everyone seems to be enjoying their food, until, crystal asks you, ây/n, who did you write your songs about?â
you look up from your plate, you feel your ears turning hot. you always hated this question because how could you tell them it was about the man who was sitting just a few feet from you?
âwell..â you begin, finishing your bite. âitâs not really about anyone. itâs just a feeling you haveâ you try your best to come up with something believable. âthat way, anyone can relate to what i release.â you smile, but you feel lukeâs eyes lingering on your figure.
you look out of the corner of your eye and confirm your suspicions. he was looking at you.
âah, that makes sense!â crystal smiles, âyour work is incredible.â
âthank you, crysâ
it was nearing midnight now, closer to your release time. instead of the restaurant you had moved to a club just a few streets over which was also set up for your release party.
ashton was by your side as you enter, letting the couples go in first, then you, ashton, and calum. you look around and see some old faces and friends.
âdo you want anything?â calum asks as the two of you stand at the bar. you shake your head, ânah, iâll passâ you smile while taking a seat at the bar. calum nods, respecting your wishes as he orders himself a drink. you sit there playing on your phone to pass the time until it hits midnight. throughout the night you have people coming up to you and congratulating you on your album, and you just smile and nod. soon enough, midnight rolls around and you hear cheers and ashton appears from what seems like thin air with a cake while congratulating you. you smile, standing up from the bar stool.
âcongratulations on your album, y/n/n! we are so proud of you and we canât wait to see where life takes you!â ashton says, you feel yourself getting emotional seeing all of your friends around you. âwe love you!â you hear michael cheer which causes you to giggle before blowing out the candles.
as you leaned in to blow out the candles everything felt like it happened so quickly. a very, very drunk man showed up out of nowhere yelling profanities at your before pushing the cake on you. âand fuck you, you whore-â he continued until a someone interfered. you see luke out of the corner of your eye, yelling at him to shut up and throwing a few punches in.
you didnât move, feeling so embarrassed. you look down seeing all the cake on your skin and dress.
sierra and crystal rush to your side and take you away to the bathroom to get you cleaned up.
you were perched up on the counter, both sierra and crystal were trying their best to clean your dress and fix your makeup but you had already started crying.
âwhy would someone do that?â you ask, feeling so small.
âi donât know, hon..â sierra sighs, as she wipes off the icing on your face. âpeople are just jerks..â crystals adds.
thankfully the cake didnât get on your dress as much as it was on your face. the two other girls let you borrow their makeup once all of the cake was gone so you could try to enjoy the rest of your day.
âthank you guys, i donât know what i would do you without youâ you smile, hugging the two girls before heading back to the club floor.
you spot luke at the bar with michael and walk up, standing beside michael. you order yourself a shot of whatever came to mind first. âyouâre drinking? i thought you hated itâ michael asks, eyeing as you downed the shot.
âyeah, well, after the fiasco that just happened, i need to let loose for the nightâ
luke shouldâve stopped you after your fifth shot, but he didnât. he let you drink and he was now paying the price for doing so.
luke knew you better than anyone else, he knew you hated drinking because of the way it made you act and how you felt afterward.
he stares as you dance with an old friend and when he starts touching you a little too much, luke saw red.
he didnât even realize what he was doing until you were yelling his name. he lets go of the guy and turns to you, âare you okay?â he asks. âluke?! what the fuck?!â you yell, stumbling back a little, and luke catches you. âyouâre drunkâ luke says, âobviouslyâ you slur followed by a sigh as you finish the rest of your drink.
âokay, i think youâre done. we should head homeâ he suggested while taking your hand and leading you through the crowd of people to gather up the rest of your group.
you donât protest, in fact, you are excited to head back home and sleep away the night and hopefully forget everything that happened.
the night has come to an end, and you all had finally returned to the beach house. the seven of you all sat around a bonfire talking about life and what they want in the future. you were seated a few feet from the group, admiring the stars, and how clearly you could see them.
the sudden hit of a soccer ball caught your attention and you followed the direction where the ball had rolled from and your eyes landed on calum and ashton. âcmonâ calum says, extending his hand you want to say no because you can feel a headache forming, but calum beats you. âyou canât say no. get upâ
you groan, letting him take your hand and drag you in the sand to kick the soccer ball around before all of you head in for the night.
luke didnât know how long he was watching you. but what he did know, is just how bad he wished he was the one you making laugh like calum does. luke wants to be the one helping you from the sand like ashton does.
his body longs for your touch as his heart yearns for your love.
sierra watched as he was eyeing you, he looked at you like you were the only person in the world. he was starstruck when it came to you, his y/n. everyone saw it except maybe you, and himself.
heâd never admit it though, for the sake of sierra.
but what he didnât know is that she knew she would never replace you in his heart. luke didnât know she had already made up her mind about their relationship.
âluke..â she speaks up while leaning in, in hopes of getting his attention. luke is pulled out of whatever trance he was in and finally looks at the girl. âyeah?â he asks, looking as if he had just come off cloud nine after hearing your laugh. âwe need to talk.â
luke nods, âis everything okay?â he asks, turning his body to fully face his girlfriend. as sierra is about to begin speaking she is interrupted by ashton, who had his arm around your shoulder. âyou all coming?â lukeâs eyes land on you, naturally. he sees that you didnât even bother to look at him, he looked disappointed. âweâll catch up later.â
luke watches as you disappear over the sand dunes and his eyes finally land on sierra. âwhatâs up?â he asks, noticing sierras blank expression.
she takes in a long breath, trying to find the right words without hurting his feelings. âi donât think this is gonna work out.. between usâ she confesses, feeling the tears threatening to spill in her eyes. âwhat..? why..?â asks luke.
âbecause you donât love me.â
âwhat? sierra, i do-â
âno, lukeâ she cuts him off, smiling softly. âyou donât, and itâs okay.â she takes his hand and holds it softly. âi shouldâve known i couldnât take her place in your heart.â âwhat..?â
ây/n.â sierra answers, fighting back the tears. âi see the way you look at her, you have that look in your eyes every time they land on her. you love her and you need to admit that to yourself.â and it was true, but luke had tried and thought that he had hid his feelings for you, but he was unsuccessful.
âi canât be her, i canât force you to love me, luke.â
âsierra..â he sighs, feeling ashamed.
âluke..look at meâ she takes her hands, cupping his chin so he would look at her. âlast night, when you came to her rescue i knew in that moment..â
âitâs okay, luke. we just arenât meant to be. you deserve someone who can make you happy, and she does.â
her thumb caresses his cheek, admiring all of his beauty as a tear slips from her eyes. âiâm sorry that i canât be the one in your heart.â she presses a kiss on his nose before standing up from her seat, leaving luke alone on the beach that night.
the next morning, your eyes are met with the excruciating pain in your temples as your eyes flutter open, meeting with the sunlight peaking in from the curtains. groaning, you throw your arm over your eyes to try to help with the light and you are reminded why you hated drinking so much.
you heard a few soft knocks at your door, âcome inâ you announce groggily. calum peeks his head in, âhey, weâre all heading out. you gonna join?â he asks. you remove your arm from your eyes and barely open them. you ask,âwhat time is it?â and calum laughs quietly . âitâs after five. youâve slept most of the day.â
you sigh, âiâll just stay back.â you answer and hear a quiet âokayâ from calum as he exits your bedroom, closing the door behind him.
you lie there for a while before eventually getting up to shower, in hopes it would make you feel a little better.
meanwhile, the others had all gone out bowling per the request of michael and ashton even though it was pretty late in the day.
calum wanted to stay back, he hated the idea of going out without you because he knew how bad your hangovers could be but he went, not wanting ashton to third wheel alone.
when they arrived at the bowling alley, it was pretty busy, they found a lane and started a few games. but everyone seemed to be off, calum couldnât put his finger on it, maybe it was the fact that you werenât here, or the fact they were all still a tad hungover. so, with only a few games in, they all decided to leave and head back to the rental house to watch a movie and make dinner instead.
when they all arrive back, they do their own thing. crystal and michael head to the patio for a couple of drinks, ashton goes to the living room, calum makes a b-line to the kitchen, sierra goes to her bedroom, and luke attempts to look for you. hoping to clear the air between the two of you.
âwheres y/n?â luke asks, noticing the door to your bedroom was wide open and you were nowhere else to be found. ashton looks around, shrugging as he plops down on the sofa. âmaybe sheâs at the beachâ the drummer suggests. âshe didnât text me.â calum announces from the kitchen, looking for some snacks. luke checks his phone, sending you a message but when you donât reply he decides to look for you himself.
you sat on the beach, your feet in the cool sand while you were scribbling away in your journal, this whole trip you felt so trapped and so empty. feeling as if you had lost your best friend over something so stupid you tried to push away those feelings, but in doing so you were jeopardizing your friendship with luke and sierra. pushing them out of your life pretty much.
you were so engrossed with your writing, you didnât even notice the tall blond heading your way.
âthere you are!â he announces, jogging to your side. âi was looking everywhere for you!â you look up from your book, seeing luke and immediately shutting it. âwell, you found meâ you answer, a bit harsher. you hear a sigh from luke, ây/n, are we ever going to talk this out?â he asks, you stand up from the shore and dust the sand off of you. âthereâs nothing to talk about, luke.â
actually, there was. you wanted to scream at him, you wanted to pour your heart out and tell him how much you loved him. how your heart aches for him, how your body yearns for his touch.
but you donât, you simply begin walking off but he stops you. ây/n.â he reaches out and grabs your wrist gently.
âwhy didnât you tell me?â he asks, and once you turn around he drops his arms to his side but his look is fierce. he was staring through you. âyou left me in the dark, y/n..how was i supposed to know?â
you groan, letting your head fall back. âluke, iâm sorry. okay?â you raise your head and look at him. âand this isnât all on me, either. you didnât tell me your feelings either.â
âwell who did you think all of those songs we wrote together were about?!â luke asks, raising his voice slightly.
âi donât know luke! i was too worried that if i said something wrong or if i slipped up i would lose my best friend!â you tell, the pain filled your chest and you felt yourself explode like a shaken soda bottle.
âi was worried that if i made the impression that i even had the slightest crush on you, youâd leave me, luke. you were the one thing in my life that kept me grounded. you were my everything, you were the air in my lungs, my heart was beating for you. so, iâm sorry, luke that i maybe didnât catch the hint. i was scared.â
luke blinks, his heart racing as you begin spilling out all your thoughts.
âwhy?â was all he asked.
âbecause i thought i wasnât good enough for you, luke. i was never the pretty one, i wasnât like the other girls. i was always the one who people settled for. and when sierra came into the picture, it was worse. when you started seeing her, i would see the way you looked at her. and it hurt me so bad, lu. because i wanted you to look at me like that, i want you to want me like you want her.â you didnât even notice the tears flowing down your cheeks.
âwhat?â in an effort to understand what he had just heard, his blue eyes were filled with devastation . did you really mean what you said? ây/nâŚdid you really feel like that? i made you feel like that?â he feels his heart breaking into small pieces. luke stares at you intently as you speak, he wants to reach out and wrap you in his arms. he wants to take away all your pain, he thinks itâs unfair you have been suffering all this time.
âyouâre a rockstar, luke. of course i felt that way, i couldnât compete with all the girls who threw themselves at you when we were on tour, and then when sierra came into the picture everything just shattered..â you wipe away the tears using the sleeves of your shirt. you had told yourself you didnât want to break down in front of him like this, but it was inevitable.
you sigh, trying to compose yourself as luke takes a few steps closer, and when his hand touches yours, you feel the wave of sadness hit you again.
âi see the way she looks at you luke, sheâs so in love with you and it kills me.â you feel the lump in your throat, and your lip quivers, but you continue. âi canât stand to be around you two, but i canât stand to be away from you, because i still love you so much, luke.â
his hand touches your cheek, his thumb wiping away the tears staining your cheek. for a moment, when you look at him you could only wish he was yours. you felt at home when touched you so gingerly, and how his ocean eyes looked over you like you were the only girl in the world.
your hand reaches up, takes his, and removes it from your face. âyou two deserve to be together. she loves you luke, i can push my feelings down. i canât do that to her.â you say, ready to act like this never happened and you would go back to how things were.
abruptly, luke speaks. âshe broke up with me.â
your heart sinks, and you feel dizzy. were you hearing things? âwhat..?â you say, just above a whisper. âlast nightâ he continues, sighing as he did.
âduring the bonfire, i guess i..i was staring at you and she went on this rant about how she knows that i love you.â now, you see lukeâs eyes brimming with tears. his voice wavers, he sniffles once trying to suppress the tears. âand sheâs right, i do love you.â he admits. âluke..i..â
âno. please, just listen to me.â the blond cuts you off, his eyes closing as he takes a deep breath. âi canât do this anymore, i canât pretend to love someone else when im still so in love with you.â
luke continues, his hands balled by his side. âi feel so complete with you around, and i canât take it when you act like we arenât close. i canât keep pretending.â
âyou are my everything, and it hurts me that i canât be with you.â his hand is over his heart, feeling the aching feeling he has been living with since that night. âi dream of you, all i do is dream of you. i canât get you out of my head. so, please donât push me away. let me love you.â
your mind was racing as you stared at him wide-eyed. unable to process the words he had uttered, âi canât do this right now..â you take a few steps back, âjust..â you shake your head leaving luke stranded on the beach.
luke watches your figure disappear. his chest tightens, thinking he had just lost you for good now. he thinks you blame yourself for his breakup. when you walk away he canât help but think you hate him more than you already did.
luke sits down in the sand, facing the ocean now. he wants to scream at the horizon, he wants the world, the gods, the universe to know just how much he loves you.
he canât bare the thought of losing you again.
luke has so much love for you, he knows everything about you. he wants to know the things that maybe you have kept hidden from him. he wants you to want him back. luke wants to make up for all of his mistakes, fix things, and give you the love you deserve.
but, if you donât feel like thatâŚhe would have to respect your decision.
you enter the house, seeing ashton on the sofa with calum with a few beers in their hands. âoh, hey, there you are. luke went looking for youâ calum says once you enter the door. âyeah, he found meâ you say, setting your book on the table and scanning the room. âwheres sierra?â you ask, ashton looks up from his phone and says, âher bedroom, but she was acting kinda weird today..â you nod, âokay, thanksâ
you stand in front of the door and mentally prepare yourself for possibly the worst fight youâd ever have. you knock a few times, âsierra?â you announce letting her know it was you. you heard a soft, âcome inâ and you twisted the door non letting yourself in.
you see her figure sitting on the twin bed closest to the window, you walk over to sit on the edge and thatâs when you notice the tears staining her cheeks.
âsierra..â you say, as you look at her. but she smiles sadly, âiâm not mad at you, if thatâs the reason your hereâ her voice was cracking and it was very obvious she had been crying for some time. âi..â you start, handing your head. âiâm so sorry.â you mutter, feeling your lip quiver.
you had been crying most of this trip. you wish you could just get a grip and stop acting so childish.
âstop..â she says reaching for your hand. âitâs okay, i knew. iâve known it since the beginning. i knew what i was getting myself into. butâŚit still hurts.â you nod, wrapping your arms around her. âi never wanted this to happen.â you sigh, feeling her arms pat your back. âi know, i donât blame youâŚâ she says quietly. sierra knows she couldnât take away what the two of you had. she had to be smart and realize if she continued the relationship she would only hurt herself in the future. she couldnât lie to herself when the truth was right in front of her.
ây/n, what you two have is real. itâs more than what we had, i canât pretend to be you and i canât make him love me like he loves you. i want the both of you happy, and if me cutting things off with him iâll do it.â she says, and pulls back to look at you. âyouâre my best friend, i donât want this to ruin us, okay?â she adds, and you nod. âdid he tell you how he felt?â you nod again, a laugh escaping your lips. âandddd?â she drawls, smiling. âi left him on the beachâ
ây/n!â she playfully hits your arm, âplease, go get that man before you lose him againâ she demands, pushing you off the bed. âgo!â you laugh and exit the bedroom.
luke sits on the beach, watching the waves crash onto the sand. he wonders if he just lost everything in less than twenty-four hours. he wonders where he went wrong, how he let you slip away, why he wasnât honest with youâŚor himself. luke is pissed at himself because maybe, just maybe, if he had been more open with his feelings and emotions maybe this wouldnât have happened.
he is racking his brain for the right words to say to fix what he had messed up so badly.
âlukeâ you say, pulling him out of his deep thought. he looks up, his eyes landing on your figure. he feels a warmth in his chest, but he doesnât get his hopes up. âyou came back?â
you nod, as you sit down next to him. âof course, i did.â you say, looking out at the ocean.
ây/n, im sorry. i didnât mean for all of that to just spill out, i-â you turn to him, stopping him as he tried explaining himself. âdontâ you shake your head.
âjust hold me, please.â
time passed quicker than you wanted it to. you sit between lukeâs legs, his arms wrapped around your waist and his head resting against your shoulders. you both wanted to watch the sunset since it was your last full night there. neither you nor luke said anything since you came back. you were simply just enjoying each other's company.
âlu?â
âhmm?â
âwhen did you realize you love me?â
luke thinks for a moment, he recalls the last show of their first headlining tour. he remembers the outfit you wore for your set and he remembers that in that moment is when he first realized his feelings for you.
âdo you remember our first headlining tour?â you nod, your eyes still on the ocean. âi do..â luke smiles, âthatâs when. i remember seeing your face on that stage and everything shifted..â he answered.
you smile to yourself, recalling that night. you were on cloud nine, you remember the hug and how much you loved being in lukeâs arms, just like you were now. âyou there?â he whispers. you nod, âi am. just..reminiscing.â
luke pulls you closer, and he squeezes you, afraid to lose you again. he traces soft circles on your arms as he gets lost in thought.
âyou there?â you chuckle, and you feel him nod against your shoulder.
âi just⌠i donât want to lose you again. i donât want to mess up this again. please let me make this right between us..â he says.
âlu, i love you. and thatâs why i came back. i want us to work outâŚi wantâŚus..â you speak quietly, the ocean crashing on the shore is in the background.
luke presses a kiss on your neck then, your cheek and finally, your lips. âi promise, y/n. iâll give you the life you deserve and we will have the best years, together.â

Dark!Calum Hood x Fem!Reader Summary: Requested! He doesn't usually get his hands dirty, but no one messes with you. Warnings: Swearing & light bar fight violence Word Count: little under 1.2k (not proofread) Copyright Š 2024 Valentiyne. All rights reserved. This original work is not allowed to be reposted on any platform in any format.
He's here, for the third time this week.
He sits at the bar, fifth seat down from the first, closest to me. I never got his name the first time he came in, and he never got mine.
He stares up at the television on the wall above the liquor, pretending to be amused by the re-run of a random ball game.
"Your usual?" I ask him, turning to face him.
He raises his head to look at me, his brown eyes burning into my soul as he cracks the first smile of the night.
"Yeah, you know me so well sugar"
Whiskey on the rocks, two sugar cubes, and a bowl of today's soup - three crackers. I've grown used to him. Every few days for the past four months he'd come into the bar and sit there in silence until my shift was up. My coworkers joked he was my personal bodyguard.
Today was no different, I was alone at the bar tonight since it was close to closing time. Aside from my stranger, there was a small group of guys in the corner on their seventh round. I knew I'd have to cut them off after this one, but to avoid confrontation I'm waiting until I'm done cleaning.
I hand the stranger his bowl of soup and whiskey, my eyes wandering back over to the gentlemen who now were making a ruckus.
"You're forgetting something" His voice is low and I snap my attention to him quickly, glancing over the bar top. "Oh! right"
I slide three sugar cubes over to him, smiling slightly before looking back up at the corner of the bar. The men were silent now, looking over at me with annoyed eyes.
"Hello? Can we get another round?"
I blink a few times, leaning forward to block his whiskey from their view, "Oh...I'm sorry, the bar is..erm It's closed now and I can't serve you anymore..." The men groan loudly, slamming their hands on the tables before standing up quickly. My stomach lurches and I avoid my gaze.
From the corner of my eye, I see something flying toward me and I duck down just in time for a duke glass to shatter on the mirrored wall behind me. I turn quickly and watch the guys begin to laugh hysterically.
The stranger's head snaps up now, eyeing them from the now-cracked mirror behind the liquor. My breath hitches and he stands now, finishing his whiskey and turning towards the men,
He slams the glass down on the bartop and storms towards the men, his fists clenched. "That's enough!" he exclaims, his voice loud enough to be heard over theirs. "This is a fucking bar, not a playground. You need to get the hell out and let the poor lady clean"
The men begin to chuckle, looking among themselves before the stranger's fist connects to the closest man's cheek. The drunkard staggers back, losing his balance due to the impact. He falls flat on his back, landing hard on the sticky bar floor. The other drunks are too shocked to do anything but stare, their mouths agape and their bottles of beer still in their hands.
As the stranger looms over the fallen man, his fists clenched and his face twisted into a snarl, the man on the floor looks up at him with fear in his eyes. The stranger's eyes burn with anger, but he doesn't move - he just stares down at the fallen man, his whole body tense with rage.
The bar has gone completely silent. No one moves or speaks, not even I. The only sound is the drunken breathing and slurred words of the fallen man on the floor. After a few moments of silence, the drunk men scurry out of my bar and down the street, screaming nonsense.
I went to thank the stranger, but to my surprise, he was already leaving.
Just as suddenly as he appeared, the stranger turned and left as quickly as he came, disappearing into the alleyway. I quickly followed after, locking the back door with my lanyard and rushing the direction he was headed.
"Hey!!"
I run down a dimly lit alleyway, chasing after the stranger, determined to catch up to him. I can hear the soft pitter-patter of his footsteps echoing off the walls, and I rush to match them as quickly as I can. I finally spot him a few feet ahead, a cigarette between his lips as he walks cooly.
"Wait up" I jog a bit faster, catching up to him and placing my hand on his forearm to stop him. He begins to slow, turning to face me with a smile. He takes a long drag on his cigarette before flicking it, the orange ember lighting up the darkness for just a moment. He looks at me for a long moment, his smile growing bigger as he notices my hand on his forearm.
"Sugar"
I rub my arm sheepishly, looking around the dark alleyway we stood in, "You didn't need to do that, I would've been fine"
He scoffs, putting the cigarette back between his lips, "You gave me three sugar cubes instead of two- it was bothering you"
He leans down to look closer at my face, crossing his arms over his chest as he looks me up and down. His eyes are sharp and piercing, like a hawk analyzing its prey. He takes another drag on his cigarette, the smoke puffing out his nose with each breath.
"What's your game, sweetheart?" he asks, his voice low and husky. "Why are you really here?"
I laugh now, shaking my head and rubbing my forehead with the palms of my hands. He was right, never once did I mess up his lasting order.
"I'm Y/n"
He nods, looking me up and down, "I don't do the whole relationship shit"
"Who said I wanted anything? I just want to know who has been sitting in my bar" I cross my arms, stating matter of factly.
He smiles slightly, flicking the amber from the cigarette, "Calum"
We stare at each other for a few moments, letting the cold air and smoke dance around us before he speaks. "I believe you owe me another drink"
I crack a smile, nudging him softly, "The bar is actually closed.. maybe tomorrow night?"
"Good thing I have whiskey at my place."

tuesday
âY/N got help, Calum, with the dishes.â Your mom nods toward the kitchen as she cleans off the dining table. You hum a response, grabbing your plate before you make your way into the kitchen.Â
âIâve come to the rescue.â Calum chuckles at your words, glancing in your direction with a smile. âMy saviorâÂ
You smile, setting your dishes in the sink. âYou can go ahead and start drying them, love.â you nod, taking a dish cloth and drying the clean culturally, the metal cool in your hands.Â
You stand in silence for a moment. Itâs not uncomfortable, but something indescribable builds in the air between you two. He can sense that youâre thinking about something. His hip nudges yours as his hands scrub pasta sauce off of a plate, his arms flexing as the veins in his hand become more propionate. âWhat are you thinking about? I can partly hear the wheels in your head turn.âÂ
Itâs a simple question, but you can feel your skin heat up and your core throb as you press your legs together.Â
Iâm thinking of you. You bending me over the countertop as your wet hands kneed my skin. Calloused fingertips pushing past the hem of my panties with ease. The feeling of your five-oâclock shadow against my inner thigh. Fucking into me, hot and slow.Â
You shake your head, shrugging, and bite back a smile, âNothing.âÂ
The house is quiet as you move through it. Cold hardwood pressing to the balls of your feet, soon met with concrete as you walk outside. The moon cast a bright glow on your skin, filling you with calm and energy as you walked towards the pool.Â
Tossing your towel onto one of the pool chairs, you strip the clothes from your body. Nipples pebble, goosebumps spreading along your skin as you step into the water. You hummed, letting the warm water consume you as you lazily swam through it.Â
You heard the deck door open and shut up with a loud click. You quickly swam to the poolâs edge, trying to hide your bare body as you blinked the water from your eyes, the figure still blurry in the distance.Â
âWhat are you doing out here? Itâs one in the morning.â Calâs voice settles familiar in your ears, causing a wave of embarrassment mixed with euphoria down your spine.Â
âJust a late night swim,â You rest your chin against the edge of the pool, concert rough against the skin.Â
He cocks his brow, sitting on the edge of one of the pool chairs. âYou always were a weirdo.â He shakes his head, tapping his pack of cigarettes against his thigh before pulling one out and placing it between his lips. âBut you love me.â You smile, pushing yourself off the edge of the pool.Â
âCould you throw me the towel?â He tosses it to you before cupping his hand to cover the cig as he lights it, the small flame casting a warm glow onto his skin.Â
You say a small thank you, grabbing the towel as you make your way to the steps of the pool, wrapping it around you as you make your way out of the water. You wrap the towel tighter around your bare body, fully realizing the situation that youâre in. Naked. In front of the guy, youâve been in love with your whole life.Â
He takes a long drag off his cigarette, dark eyes landing on yours. You clear your throat, skin prickling with heat under his gaze. âCan I have one?âÂ
âYou?â he chuckles, smoke slipping between his lips. âHave you ever even smoked before?âÂ
You shift in your seat, the cold plastic sticking slightly to your wet thighs. âNo, but what does that matter? God, stop acting like my brother.â You shove his arm gently, biting back a smile.
He laughs gently. âSorry, sorry.â taking another drag. âWhy donât you shotgun it first?â
âOkay.â your words are quite as Calum moves next to you, warmth radiating off his body as he takes another long pull off the cig, letting it settle in his chest for a moment before he cups your face. Calloused hands on your skin, making your hair stand on edge. Your lips part as smoke slips past Calumâs, the queue for you to slowly inhale.Â
The warmth of his body, mixed with the unfamiliar menthol feeling, makes you feel light-headed. Your arms wrap around Calumâs neck, closing the gap between your bodies. âY/N..â he breathes out before you connect your lips. Itâs soft and hesitant until he slowly melts into you. Strong arms wrapping around your waist, pulling you even closer.Â
He tastes like smoke and mint, consuming all your senses as your hand slips up his shirt. He quickly pulls away, breath hitched and lips slightly plump from friction. âY/N, I, we⌠We canât do this. Iâm sorry.âÂ
He stands quickly, shaky hands stubbing out the cig. His mouth opens, trying to find the right thing to say, but nothing comes out. He briefly looks at you, eyes dark, before walking back into the house.Â
The familiar click of the deck door settled the reality of it all. Youâre an idiot, and he doesnât feel the same.Â

disney day date
pairing: calum hood x reader
summary: as the a manager for the band, you got to spend the their day off on tour with them at disney world. it may push calum to make a move since heâs always had a soft spot for you.
word count: 3.3k
âWhy am I missing somebody?â You mumbled to yourself, recounting the number of people in the van.
âOh, I know why? Where is Calum?â You huffed. You grabbed your phone out of your pocket and quickly dialed his number. The phone rang and rang. âI havenât seen him at all this morning.â Luke mentioned.
You let out of a sigh as you got Calumâs voicemail. âYou all stay here. Iâll go get Cal, and then we can leave.â You told them, heading back into the hotel.
You were the guysâ manager, and today was a non-show day on tour. You all had decided to go to Disney for the day.
You got out of the elevator on the sixth floor and walked to Calumâs door. You knocked on the door. âCalum, are you in there?â You called out.
You heard a lot of noise coming from inside his room, and then the door swung open. Calum looked like a mess. His hair curls were all covering his face, and he didnât even have a shirt on.
âOh, uh hi,â you mumbled, left speechless by what you saw in front of you.
âYou like what you see?â He teased you. You rolled your eyes and playfully hit his arm. âOh shut up, you were supposed to be downstairs like 15 minutes ago.â You scolded him, doing anything to bring the conversation away from how you were ogling him.
âIâm so sorry. I missed my alarm this morning.â He said, inviting you inside. Calum walked into the bathroom and spritzed himself with cologne. You were almost drooling as you saw his back muscles flex.
To say you had a thing for Calum would be an understatement, but you were their manager, and you had no idea if your feelings were reciprocated.
Calum patted his pockets checking for his phone and wallet. You grabbed the tshirt that he had lying out on his bed. âAm I missing anything else?â He asked, walking out of the bathroom.
âA shirt might be helpful,â you told him, handing it to him. His cheeks flushed red. You both were good at teasing each other. If one of you had a sassy comeback, you knew it was only seconds til the other person made another joke.
âI thought you liked me better without a shirt?â He quipped, tilting his head to the side. It was your turn for your cheeks to heat up. You stepped forward to hit his arm.
He took a step back and held his hands up in surrender. âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry,â he said, pulling the shirt over his head.
You rolled your eyes and grabbed his arm. âLetâs go, Hood.â You said, pulling him downstairs.
You got to the van, and Calum slid the door open for you. You thanked him as you stepped into the van, taking a seat next to Luke. Calum took the other empty seat next to you. âSomebody finally made it.â Michael exclaimed.
You noticed that the guys had rearranged where they were sitting while you had been upstairs. They no doubt had done this to make sure you and Calum were forced to sit next to each other.
Once you both had buckled your seatbelts, the driver pulled away from the curb. âSo what took you two so long?â Ashton teased the both of you.
Calum shot Ashton a death glare. You threw up your middle finger. âI have your ticket, Irwin. Donât piss me off.â You threatened. This earned a few chuckles from the rest of the guys.
Everyone started their own little side conversation. Ashton and Michael were talking about some new album they had listened to. Luke and Sierra were talking about Petunia. The few crew members were all talking amongst themselves.
Calum lightly placed his hand on your knee, tapping your skin with his index finger. You looked over at him. He leaned in toward your ear. âIâm sorry about being late this morning.â He whispered, not wanting to draw attention to your conversation.
You placed your hand on top of his. âCalum, I swear, Iâm not mad. Itâs no big deal.â You assured him. When you removed your hand from his, he kept his hand placed on your knee. You could feel the butterflies inside your stomach.
You made eye contact with Michael, and his eyes darted to Calumâs hand on your leg. He smirked at you, to which you returned a glare.
He chuckled at your reaction and went back to his conversation. âWhat was that about?â Calum asked, leaning in towards you again. You shook your head, dismissing it. âJust Michael being Michael,â you explained.
Calum chuckled, knowing exactly what you meant. The butterflies in your stomach only got worse when you heard Calum laugh. You leaned your head over onto Calumâs shoulder. His cheeks immediately turned bright red.
Ashton managed to take a sneaky picture of the two of you. He knew youâd want it after you finally confessed your feelings.
The van pulled up to the front gates. You got out of the van, and everyone gathered around you. You grabbed the stack of tickets out of your backpack and handed them out to everyone.
After you did that, Calum pulled you to the side. âYou want to hang out together?â He suggested, praying that you would say yes.
âYeah, of course,â you told him, smiling. Calum swore his heart skipped a beat.
âEverybody pick a ride buddy,â Luke joked, imitating a school teacher on a field trip. âI call dibs,â Calum announced quickly, and grabbed your hand. This earned a few chuckles from the other guys. âWe all know why,â Ashton muttered.
âCâmon, Calum. Letâs go,â you said, tugging his hand. Calum had a lovestruck smile on his face. Anytime the guys teased the two of you, he worried youâd find about his feelings towards you. For the past year, you and Calum had a will-they-wonât-they thing going on.
Calum hated that he hadnât been able to make himself confess his feelings, but he didnât want to risk your friendship.
âHey, you two, wait up.â You heard Luke call from behind you both. You and Calum turned around and saw Luke and Sierra walking towards you.
âYou guys mind if we hang out with you?â Sierra asked you, smiling.
âNo, we donât mind at all.â You responded.
You all walked into the park, and you instantly felt super excited. You grabbed onto Calumâs arm, and you were practically skipping.
You caught Calum staring at you with a giant grin on his face. âYou look really happy,â he said. He couldnât get the smile off his face from seeing you all giddy.
âI have severely needed this, Cal. I have been babysitting you four for two months on tour. Some Disney magic is just what I need.â You told him, giggling.
You saw Sierra drag Luke toward the castle to take a picture. âWould you like to take a photo with me?â Calum asked, nudging your shoulder.
âIs that even a question?â You responded. On tour, you were always taking pictures of the guys behind the scenes and whatnot.
Calum pulled his phone out of his pocket, and you both posed for some selfies. Knowing Calum wouldnât make a move, you leaned over and kissed his cheek for one of the pictures.
Luke and Sierra were still taking pictures, so you both ran up behind them and photobombed.
The first ride you chose to do was Haunted Mansion. You and Calum were in your own little cart, and so were Luke and Sierra. The ride started to move into the darkness.
You noticed Calum scooch closer to you, so your legs were pressed up against each other. âYou scared, Cal?â You teased him. You couldnât see him, but you know you earned an eye-roll. âI am not. Iâm just trying to keep you from getting scared.â He replied.
âOh, what a gentleman,â you said, giggling. You rested your hand on Calumâs thigh. You honestly worried that the two of you would never be brave enough to confess your feelings.
The ride came to halt, and a message played about how the ride would be running shortly.
âCalum, keeps your hands to yourself.â Luke and Sierra yelled towards you both.
âOur friends are kinda pains in my ass,â Calum joked, making you giggle. âYeah, but I donât think they mean anything by it.â You lied.
âYâknow, we could always mess with them and tell them we made out.â Calum joked, out of nowhere. You gasped. âCalum becoming the prankster? I like it.â You said, having to stop yourself from suggesting you should just actually make out.
You heard a mechanical whirring noise, and you anticipated the ride was about to start. You were listening to the noise and then, âBoo!â Calum whisper-yelled in your ear, causing you to jump.
âYou asshole,â you said, hitting his arm. Calum was in a fit of laughter after seeing the shocked look on your face. âIâm so sorry,â he said, putting his arm around you and pulling you closer to him.
The ride started and continued moving.
Once you all got off the ride, you started walking towards the rollercoaster that Luke had requested.
âSo, did you know have a fun time on a ride in the dark together?â Luke asked, winking at you.
âYeah, totally Luke, we made out.â Calum said sarcastically. He wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you close to him. Luke furrowed his eyebrows, looking at Calumâs face.
âNah, if you both made out, Calumâs face would be bright red.â He said, returning to Sierraâs side up in front of you.
âSorry about him,â Calum said, moving his arm from your shoulders. You wrapped your arms around his side. âPut your arm back. Itâs been two months of tour, and my legs are sore.â You told him.
He chuckled, returning its arm to where it had been. âSo, Iâm just here to hold you up?â He asked, to which you nodded.
âItâs not your only purpose. Youâre good company, but holding me up is one of your many benefits.â You told him, giggling.
You all continued walking, you saw Sierra taking a video of her and Luke on her phone. You didnât think anything of it, just her taking a video for Instagram. Calum saw it too, and just before she panned the camera back to show you both, he moved his arm and took a step away from you.
It felt like a dagger to your heart. You couldnât believe he was embarrassed to be seen with you like that. You started to doubt whether he actually had feelings for you.
âOh, hey look, itâs the other guys,â you said, pointing to Michael, Crystal, Ashton, and some of the crew guys. You headed towards their group, desperate to get away from Calum.
Calum saw how fast you jogged over towards them, and he knew he messed up. He had only been trying to protect you. He knew if fans saw his arm around you, theyâd assume you both were dating. Then, the nasty comments would start.
âHey, you guys, weâre going to ride Space Mountain. Care to join?â You invited them all, and they all agreed.
You all were walking over there, and you were hanging out with Ashton. âSo whatâs up with you and Cal? You guys are normally inseparable.â Ashton said.
You shrugged your shoulders. âI donât know. I thought we were good, but he had his arm around me. Then, Sierra was taking a video, and he literally jumped away from me. How the fuck am I supposed to interpret that?â You ranted.
âOh shit, Iâm sorry, man. Iâll be your new ride buddy if you want.â He suggested. You smiled at his sweet gesture. âThanks, Ash,â you said, leaning your head on his shoulder.
Calum, who was walking a few feet behind you both, saw you do this and instantly felt jealous. He knew it was his fault, but he cared about you so much.
Throughout the whole line, Calum just stared at you the whole time. He felt more jealous than he ever had. He was jealous Ashton was making you laugh, and you looked really happy. But Calum wasnât the one making you happy.
Due to luck, Calum got seated behind you both on the ride.
You were riding up to one of the biggest drops in the ride. You grabbed onto Ashtonâs hand and got ready for the drop.
Calum saw it and thought he was going to be sick.
Calum knew he needed to apologize to you, but you wouldnât even look in his direction. He was also worried that he might end up accidentally telling you how he feels.
You all walked to the next ride, which had a really long line. For Calum, that meant more time to think of how to apologize. His eyes were trained on you throughout the whole line.
He noticed that you started fanning yourself to cool down. He didnât think much of it. You were outside at a theme park, and it was pretty warm.
Then, he noticed your cheeks starting to get red. No one else seemed to notice.
âGuys, I really donât feel good,â you said, looking more faint now.
Calum didnât waste any time. He walked towards you. You started to lose your balance, and he grabbed your arms, holding you steady.
âIâll take you to go cool down and get you out of the heat.â He volunteered, guiding you backwards through the line.
You didnât protest even though you were currently mad at Calum.
Calum found a gift shop that was indoors with air conditioning. He carefully helped you sit down on the floor before taking a seat next to you.
âHere, drink some of this,â he said, handing you his bottle of water. You slowly took a few sips, trying to cool yourself down.
He grabbed the hand you werenât holding the bottle in. He slipped your hair tie off of your wrist. âLet me get your hair up off your neck,â he said, gathering your hair and pulling it into a ponytail.
âWhy am I surprised you know how to do hair?â You said, smiling at him. He was happy to see that smile again, even if you were still mad at him. âI have a sister, but mainly because Iâm a man of many talents,â he joked.
âYouâll have to tell me about the other ones some other time,â you flirted. Calum was more shocked by the flirty comment than you were, but he didnât say anything about it.
You leaned over and rested your head on Calumâs shoulder. âYou feeling a little better now?â He asked you, placing his hand on your knee.
âYeah,â you said, softly. He could tell you were still a little mad at him. Things didnât feel completely natural again yet.
He let you relax and sent the guys a text telling them where you both were.
Eventually, you noticed the rest of the guys walking into the gift shop. âYou feeling better?â Sierra was the first one to ask you. You nodded your head, smiling at her.
âWe were thinking about doing a water ride next, if youâre down,â Ashton told you.
You looked over at Calum. âItâs up to you, if youâre up to it. If not, Iâll stay here with you.â He told you, sweetly.
âIâm down for a water ride.â You replied. Calum carefully helped you to your feet.
You walked with Sierra and Luke most of the way to the ride. Calumâs eyes were trained on you the whole time. He was determined to keep you safe.
After waiting in the line, Calum ended up sitting behind you on the ride since it was only one person across.
You all had a blast on the ride, and the cold water made you feel a lot better.
After finishing the ride, Calum checked on you to see if you were still feeling good. You assured him you were fine, and you headed to the next ride.
You were talking to Calum in the line. You were hoping heâd bring up what happened earlier and apologize. He just avoided the topic.
You felt yourself start to shiver. Being soaking wet from the last ride meant you were now freezing. âCâmere,â Calum said, pulling you into a hug. He wrapped his arms around your body.
Calum was always warm, which helped you feel less cold. He rubbed his hands up and down your back. You could hear his heartbeat, and you noticed how it started to race.
âHey, um,â he started to say. You looked up to meet his gaze. You figured he was finally about to apologize. Calum looked like he didnât know what to say.
You heard him curse under his breath, and then he started to lean in. You realized he was about to kiss you.
You took a step back, pulling yourself away from him. His eyes shot open, knowing he had screwed up.
âYouâre not even going to talk about it or apologize? Youâre just going to try to fucking kiss me? Absolutely not.â You said, turning around and starting to leave the line.
âYou alright?â Ashton called after you because heâd seen the whole interaction. You ignored him and kept walking.
âWait, come back,â You heard Calum following behind you. You didnât even slow your pace. Once you had left the line, you turned around.
âLeave me alone. You fucked up, Cal, now just let me have a moment to myself.â You snapped at him. You continued walking away from him.
Calum still didnât listen. âI need to talk to you. I care about you,â he called after you.
You stopped dead in your tracks and laughed to yourself. âYou care about me? Alright, fine. You wanna talk, letâs talk.â You said, dragging him over to a corner where no one was.
âLetâs start with what the hell was that kiss about?â You asked him. He scrunched his eyebrows, in confusion. âBecause I have feelings for you. I was pretty sure you had feelings for me, until you started yelling.â He explained.
âOf course I have feelings for you.â You snapped, knowing it was obvious to everyone around you. This only made Calum more confused. âThen why are you mad about me trying to kiss you?â He asked you.
You rolled your eyes. âThis isnât about the kiss. This is about how you were an asshole this morning.â You had to stop yourself from yelling. Calum was speechless. He still didnât know how to fix what was going on between the two of you.
âDid you think I didnât notice? Sierra was taking a video, and you stopped touching me and scooted over. You made me feel like it was embarrassing for you to be seen with me. And you knew I was mad because you know me better than anyone. And you still never thought to apologize. Just when I thought youâre finally going to apologize, you fucking try to kiss me and ignore the whole thing.â You start ranting.
Calum realized how badly he had hurt you. âOh, shit. I am so sorry. That wasnât what I meant by that, I swear. I was worried if people saw us all touchy in a video, they would assume we were dating. I knew how brutal people would be. I was pretty sure we both felt the same way about each other, and I didnât want you to get any kind of hate or anything. I care about you so much.â He apologized.
You cupped his face and pulled him in to kiss him. Calum quickly wrapped his arms snuggly around your waist.
âI am so sorry,â Calum whispered, leaning his forehead against yours. âItâs okay, Cal,â you said, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Password Is Your Birthday | Calum Hood
Pairing:Â Calum Hood x Reader (she/her)
Summary:Â Y/N never doubted Calum's loyalty, however, once controversial photos were leaked, their relationship was put to the test.
Warning:Â angsty, mention of alcohol
Word Count:Â 2 582
Requested:Â yes
Authorâs Note: Thank you for the patience! Lately I've experienced a somewhat burnout, and couldn't write anything normally. That's really frustrating when it happens, so I couldn't post the work earlier â it's really important to me to be sure in a story, to be fully satisfied with the result. Hopefully you'll enjoy this one! Remember, your activity helps so-so much! âĄ
There was nothing better than holding his hand in hers. To reflect a smile on his face. To feel the heartbeat of each other every time they were close.Â
Sometimes Y/N thought she only imagined him. She created him like a puzzle she used to make in the evenings when was very little. Calum was someone the girl could call perfect. Of course, everyone had their flaws, however, when you loved someone the flaws seemed quite insignificant.
She loved him. He was her second breath, her reason the girl believed in happy endings. It was even funny, amusing and little absurd how two people, who were scared of commitment before, were suddenly searching for love in each other.Â
Calum adored her. He enjoyed her bright laugh in late afternoons, when they were watching some silly comedy. Praised Y/N's little sad face each time heâd forget to buy something from their shopping list or finish a pack of crisps that supposed to be for both of them. He was guilty, he knew it.Â
But Y/N was guilty, too. For entering his life and turning everything upside down. For not warning that her smile would change everything in him. The musician felt alive next to her, and she knew it.Â
"Donât look at me like this," Y/N chuckled, resting hands on his shoulders. Calum led her in a dance, and even though the room was full of strangers, it felt as if there were just two of them.
"Why so?" Cal giggled back, taking his time to observe the girlâs beautiful eyes. They were shining, and he wanted to believe he was the reason of it.Â
"You make me shy," she smiled wider, and Calum only laughed at such confession. He doubted it was the truth, because his Y/N could be naughty, but not shy. Not at such moment at least.
"I make you shy? And thatâs it?" he asked, smiling.
Y/N made an innocent face only and shrugged, so Calum couldnât help himself but leave a kiss on the lips.
"Iâm going to get us another drink," he whispered and pulled away gently, when the music ended.
Y/N nodded, following Calum with a gaze. It felt like the smile didnât leave her face for the whole evening. Perhaps, she needed to be careful with that thought, as the girl was about to receive a message that could change everything she believed in.
Cal just disappeared from the sight, when the girlâs phone vibrated. Y/N lazily took it out of a purse and checked the notification. It was a blank email with a photo attached, nothing else. The girl rolled the eyes and already wanted to push a button "spam", seeing unknown address, as noticed on the picture preview outlines of her boyfriend. Even when the photo downloaded, and the girl could see Cal with someone else, she still thought it was fake, a silly prank. Calum was loyal, and he wouldnât cheat on her. They were both very open about their relationship, and Y/N never had any doubts about him. The girl didnât have a good look at the photo, when the phone vibrated again. She sighed annoyingly and opened another email, where few more photos were included, as well as a link to Google Drive. Curiosity, or maybe already doubts, took over. Y/N looked around and hurried to a more quiet place, away from the guests. She supposed to celebrate Michaelâs birthday, like everyone else, but her festive mood disappeared just at the snap of fingers.
The girl seat on a couch and open the link. Surely, she knew it wasnât safe to open a link from unknown sender, however, it was Google Drive, so the girl doubted it was just spam already. Y/N was too intrigued â and not in a good way, so she took the risk.Â
The girl saw few dated folders, the most recent one was created last week. Just like she suspected, there were photos inside â Calum, hanging out with some ginger girl. The stranger was clearly older than Y/N, but looked good, she though. Y/N couldnât find anything provocative, however, by the look of it, those two clearly had a good time together, laughing and even cuddling each other.Â
"Here you are! Are you hiding from someone? I barely found you."
Y/N looked up and saw Calum standing in front of her, holding two cocktails in both hands. The girl didnât even have powers to give Cal at least a short smile. She stood up and took the glass, placing her phone in his palm. Confused, Cal glanced at the screen.
"What is it?" Y/N, drinking the cocktail through a straw, could see how the boyfriendâs face changed, slowly. "This is⌠This is not what you think," she almost chocked at such a banal phrase. "Where did you get this? Did you follow me?"
The irritation and panic was written on his face, and Y/N started to feel sick of Cal all of a sudden. The girl took her phone back roughly, fighting with a desire to splash the drink on his face.Â
"Y/NâŚ"
"Unknown admire sent it to me," she finally replied, looking at his eyes and still not being able to believe that a person who she trusted the most failed her like that, lied to her. "Why, Calum? You could just tell me if you didnât feel the same anymore, why to play this game?" the girl couldnât tell if she was hurt or simply disappointed. Y/N thought they were not just a boyfriend and girlfriend. It always felt like there was something more than that, they were both friends and lovers. A little family in their own world.
"Itâs not a game. Look, I didnât cheat on you."
"Yet?"
Cal sighed heavily and looked up at the ceiling.
"Do we really gotta do this now? Right here, with all your friends around?" he asked, hoping to make her come to the senses, however, those questions made Y/N nothing, but angry.Â
"How dare you to ask me this, like itâs not important?"
"Because itâs not!" Calum snapped, leaving his glass on a tray of a passing by waiter, Y/N did the same. "These photos⌠Itâs not⌠What it is."
"Then what is it? Sneaking out at nights, hugging her? Do I look like an idiot?"
"Look I canât tell you, butââ"
"Unbelievable," Y/N laughed shorty, but she wasnât really having fun at that moment. The girl headed to the exit of the room, feeling like she couldnât stay there any longer.
"Please, donât go," he almost whispered, tiredly, and hurried up to follow her. "Y/N! You canât just leave, all our friends are here, letâs not do it now."
"Iâm sorry, but this is more important to me now. You can stay, as I already understood that seeing someone else isnât a big deal to you," the girl smirked, calling a taxi.
"Iâm not seeing anyone," Calum repeated, even though he knew how it all sounded, when Y/N literally had photos, proving a completely different thing.Â
"You keep telling me this, but you donât explain what it is then," the girl said, grinning sadly. "Before lying you needed to come up with a truthful story, Calum," she smirked and got into a car.
The musician followed her, as he couldnât just leave the girl like that. Cal had no idea how to explain himself; he was very mad at the person, who leaked those photos. Calum obviously didnât know that someone was taking pictures of him, otherwise heâd be more careful. However, at that particular moment the guy didnât care as much about the photos going public, â after all, it was only a matter of time when theyâd be all over the Internet â as about his relationship with Y/N. Calum knew he messed up, but it didnât mean he couldnât fix it.Â
The way home was accompanied by silence. Y/N had a lot to process. She couldnât forgive him cheating, and even though the answer was obvious, everything wasnât as simple as the girl hoped. Despite a clear disappointment in their relationship and even some hate towards Cal, she still loved him. Y/N couldnât imagine her life without him. The girl thought everything was alright between them. Was is it all really a lie? Was it her fault? Why was Cal seeking a company of someone else?..
By the end of the ride she was so tired of her own thoughts that all what Y/N wanted was to go to bed and wake up happy again. The girl knew it was doubtfully possible to hide from the bitter reality, but she was not ready for another drama that evening.
However, when Y/N went to their bedroom, Calum was not planning to leave it like that.
"Just an hour ago you wanted to talk, so letâs talk," he chuckled, watching Y/N taking off her heels and going to bed. "We arenât going to bed until we talk about it," Cal said though his teeth, feeling a wave of anger spreading all over his body.
"I donât have powers to talk about it anymore," the girl replied calmly, covering herself with a blanket. "You should be happy, youâll have more time to come up with an excuse," she smiled sadly.
"Y/N, I didnât cheat on you. And Iâm not seeing anyone but you," Cal said coldly, taking a seat on the edge of their bed, so he could look in the girlâs eyes. "I swear to you. I love you."
"Then who is it?" Y/N echoed. She wanted to believe Calum, she desperately wanted to believe him, but he wasnât making it particularly easy. "Are you saying those photos were fake? A photoshop? At the days when you were coming home late because you had night photoshoots with a band? You know, I trusted you, I didnât even have any doubts, didnât have a thought to call guys and ask if it was true. I trusted you," Y/N repeated. The tears were stuck somewhere, and the eyes were still dry. She felt simply empty.
"The photos are real," Calum admitted, as there was no point to lie anymore. "But those meeting werenât dates."
"Give me your phone," Y/N whispered, realising the guy didnât confirm that he had night shooting sessions with the band. Because he didnât have them, apparently.
"I canâtâŚ" he whispered back, not looking at her anymore.
"Calum," the girl swallowed, staring at Cal, who seemed like a lost kitten. "Give me your phone," her voice trembled, but she insisted.
The guy looked up and slowly took the phone out from a pocket of his jacket. He hesitated, but Y/N snatched it from his palm immediately.
"Why canât you just believe me?" the musician chuckled sadly, watching her entering the password â it was her birthday. The password on her phone was his birthday, they did it as a joke, but both kept it in the end.
"Would you believe me?" Y/N asked, opening chats and scrolling his messages, trying to find a familiar face. Cal had a weird obsession with having profile pictures for all his contacts. Funny, but the girl even hoped that the contact she was looking for wouldnât be there or would remain without a picture. However, Y/N didnât even need to scroll that far to see an image of that ginger girl.
Opening chat, Y/N saw some photos the stranger was sending Calum. They were sketches of a ring. There were different kinds, Calâs replies were mostly short as "I like the first variant better" and "can we try it with a blue stone?". They discussed time of their meetings, and Cal would apologise theyâd have to meet that late again, explaining it with his crazy working schedule and "too smart girlfriend".
"What is it?" Y/N whispered and looked up at Calum. The guy didnât move from his place and was watching her every move, while she was reading the messages and checking the photos.
"How do you think?" Cal asked, and it was his time to be disappointed. He wanted it to be a surprise. "That girl is a jewellery designer," he took his phone back roughly, switching off the screen. "I couldnât find anything in stores, so I contacted someone I knew . We met just few times, and only because I needed to see work in progress with my own eyes. Itâs not that easy just by a picture or a sketch, you know," the guy sighed and stood up.
"Calum," Y/N sobbed, feeling like an idiot. She was blaming herself at that moment, however, the reaction the girl had before was rather understandable, too; besides, Cal couldnât normally explain himself. But how could he? Again, he wanted it to be a surprise.
"Iâll sleep in a couch today, I guess," the musician chuckled sadly, putting the phone back to his pocket. Calum was staring at Y/Nâs face, knowing that it wasnât just her fault, but both of them. And that idiot, who leaked the photos at first place.
"Look, Iâm sorry, I thoughtââ"
"I know," Cal interrupted. "But next time trust me what I say."
Y/N jumped off the bed and brushed tears from the face, once Calum left the room.
"Trust you?" she outraged, getting mad that the guy behaved that way. Sure, Y/N messed up, too, but she had her reasons. "Youâd react completely the same way if you were on my place, Calum!" the girl caught his hand, so Cal turned around. "Itâs not fair. I apologised, I know you wanted to make a surprise, and itâs⌠itâs such a wonderful surprise, but you canât tell itâs my fault only! I didnât believe at first, but what could I do?"
"I know," Cal sighed, cooling off rather quickly, and pressed the girl against his body, cuddling Y/N softly. "Iâm sorry," he closed the eyes for a moment. "I just got so upset that my surprise was ruined. It was such a long journey, and you found out like that. Accusing me as well," the guy left a short kiss on her soft cheek. "I love you. Y/N. Iâd never cheat on you. You do realise I want you to be my wife?" Calum chuckled, and the smile was sincere.
"Now I do," the girl smiled a bit, still feeling a bit sad that she reacted like that and ruined the surprise. "I love you, too, Calum," the girl said and stood on her toes to kiss the musician on his lips.
"Does it mean youâll marry me?" he asked through the kiss.
"It does," she cuddled Calâs neck, once he took her on his arms.
"Y/N Hood, sounds good, huh?" The guys touched her nose with his and then laughed all of a sudden.
"Hey, what are you laughing at?"
"Iâm just thinking that this could happen only to us, really," Cal sighed, smiling, and kissed Y/N again. "You know, I gotta admit, youâre extremely hot, when youâre angry. Even though you behaved like a brat."
"Uh, only I did?" the girl squinted, so the musician hurried up to apologise with a short kiss on her neck.
Apparently, that evening they both would never forget for several reasons.

you don't go to parties iii | calum hood
a/n: I DID IT GUYS R U PROUD OF ME
i was in a bigggg writing funk before this and iâm glad i got it done. sorry for making u guys wait so terribly long for it. i love u
warnings: calum hood x she/her reader, lowercase intended, calum's a mess (slight alcohol tw) angst happy ending
â
calum ghosted himself from everybody since that encounter with him, y/n, and his bandmates.
the other three boys tried their absolute hardest to get a word out of him, making endless phone calls, sending texts every ten minutes, and they even tried knocking at his door. calum ignored all of them, and gradually, it all just stopped.
he didn't really know what to do with himself. he had been so used to an environment full of so many people around him, and now? only having, himself, his dog and a few guitars? this felt new to him.
he also hadn't touched a drop of alcohol since him and the boys' fight.
looking back at it, calum knows he might have not reacted in the best way possible. he was angry, he really was. seeing his ex-girlfriend leave michael's house with all three of his bestfriends there was almost the last thing he expected to see, and it took him aback. but he knows he had no right to start yelling at all of them.
he's tried reaching out. in calum's head, luke seems like he would be the easiest to talk to â they've known each other since they were sixteen ; they tell each other everything. so why couldn't calum just muster up some courage and call him? text him, even?
as he sits at his couch with his phone in his hands, he looks at the message he's typed out.
hey guys, i know this is kind of out of the blue but i wanted to say sorry to you guys in person. i did some really fucked up shit and i know you guys were just looking out for me. do you think we could all meet up?
he deletes it before laying on the couch and going to bed.
â
initially, calum's woken up by a ding!, indicating somebody's texted him. slightly suprised, but not awake enough to care, he ignores it and attempts to go back to sleep. that happens to be unsuccessful as his phone starts ringing.
sitting up from the couch slightly annoyed, he picks up the phone and rubs his eyes. "hello?" calum groans.
"calum?" a slurred voice rings through his ears, and that's all it takes for him to jump back into full consciousness. "calum! you answered!" y/n happily exclaims through the phone, and he already knows she's had something to drink.
"are you okay, y/n?" calum softly asks while he walks to his bedroom.
"i'm okay! i'm at the bar alone and i had a few shots, and i started thinking about you. the boys told me that they haven't heard from you in about a week or so, and i didn't contact you because i was scared i was gonna make it worse. but i was thinking about you and i got really worried, so i called you to make sure you're okay," y/n rambles, sighing as she finishes closing her tab, picking up her bag from the table and walking towards the exit.
"you're â you're alone?" calum asks, concern laced in his voice and his face although she can't see it. "yeah, i'm just about to leave. anyways, thanks for answering. i'm glad to hear you're okay-"
"y/n i swear to god if you end this phone call right now," calum sternly tells her in response, picking up his keys and making his way to his front door. "where are you?"
"you know where i am," y/n responds softly. "you have to know where i am."
calum stops in his tracks for a brief moment before fully understanding what she means by that.
"stay there, please. i'm on my way."
â
she's sitting on the side of the pavement, a cig in her hand while she waits for him to get there. she doesn't smoke very often, but when she does, she knows her emotions are taking over.
after y/n heard from michael that calum hasn't spoken to him or the other boys in over a week, she started to feel stressed out. was the slight fallout between all of them her fault? should she have hung out that one day with michael, and maybe everything would have been okay?
she's clouded in her own thoughts, a hand on her head while she takes the last hit of her cigarette before throwing it on the ground and putting it out with the heel of her shoe. headlights start to approach her, and from the car model, she already knows that it's calum.
she gets up and lightly brushes off her body before walking towards his car. calum quickly puts his car in park before rushing over to y/n and helping her into the passengers seat of the car.
"hi calum! good to see you." y/n tells him with a lazy smile on her face, looking up at him. the happy feeling is not reciprocated, as he looks at her with a nonchalant face and nodding to adress her.
he's back in the drivers seat, putting the car back in drive when she starts to speak up again. "are you mad at me?"y/n asks softly, playing with her fingers and not making eye contact.
"i'm not mad," calum starts. "i'm just, a little disappointed. you know better than to go out alone. you know that's not safe. i was just worried about you." he breathes out heavily, focusing on the road.
"that's not what i'm talking about, y/n responds, looking at him with a sad smile. "i'm asking if you're mad at me for seeing michael, luke and ashton. i'm asking you if you're mad at me for.. for leaving you."
"y/n, i don't know if we should be talking about this, at least right now we shouldn't..." calum trails off, closing his eyes for a split second.
"you can tell me the truth, cal. you can hate me."
he looks to his right, just to see her face for just a second, and she sees her looking at him with watery eyes and a small frown. she's on the verge of tears, and he can't let that happen.
taking his right hand off the wheel and reaching for her hand, he grabs it and intertwines it with his, his thumb rubbing against the base of her thumb.
"i don't, y/n. i don't hate you. don't think i ever could."
she nods silently, and the conversation comes to an end before calum reaches her house. he exits his side and opens y/n's car door to walk her to her front door.
âthanks for helping me get home,â y/n whispers to the boy helping her stand up while he takes out her keys from her purse. not saying anything, calum unlocks the door and walks the both of them inside, shutting it behind him and helping her take off her shoes.
sheâs in her change of clothes and the two of them are sitting next to each other when calum asks, âwhy did you go to the bar tonight?â y/nâs still kind of out of it, and she canât quite yet process the entirety of her situation. so while sheâs sitting on the edge of her bed next to calum, she does what she feels is best â pour her heart out.
âi told you earlier, iâve been thinking about you. iâm worried about you cal.. i have been even before you stopped talking to your best friends. i know how youâve been acting, partying and all. and i guess⌠i guess like i feel that itâs my fault? i never gave you a chance? i just, i just kind of got up and left without telling you.. i shouldnât have done that. and now, the first time we talk to each other in months is a result of me getting too drunk needing help⌠you hurt me a lot but i didnât realize how much i hurt you.. and iâm sorry. itâs long overdue but, iâm really sorry. if i could go back and do it over again i would.â
calumâs glassy eyes meet her sad ones as she shoots him a small smile. âplease donât be mad at them,â she finishes, talking about luke, michael and ashton. âthey love you so much, and they want whatâs best for you. theyâre worried about you, just like how i am.â she takes her hand and gently cups calumâs face, leaning her forehead against his.
âyou did nothing wrong,â he breathes out, his voice shaky. ânothing was your fault, y/n. i promise.â he canât have this conversation. not yet. not while the girl in front of him isnât sober, and not while his thoughts arenât collected properly. hell, y/n might not even remember this the next day.
ây/n, i have to go. iâll text you tomorrow to ask how youâre feeling.â calum states, getting up from y/nâs bed and beginning to leave, but she stops him by grabbing his hand. âno, itâs late. i made you pick me up. the least i could do is let you stay here,â she pleads softly, holding her grip on his hand tighter. âplease donât go.â
and while calum knows he shouldnât do it, he sighs and enters the bed in the empty space that drunk y/n made for him. he makes sure to leave a good amount of space between the two, even if it means he's on the verge of falling of the bed.
calum's doing everything in his power to what felt like for once, to do the right thing. he's hurt her one, two, three many times before and he feels like he's walking on eggshells in this moment.
his back is facing hers and yet he still can't sleep. he can't stop thinking of all the mistakes he's made and how much pain he's caused to the one girl he's only truly loved. he also thinks about his bandmates, his brothers. how could he have acted so recklessly towards them? he knows that he knows better, and yet he still didn't show it.
despite his better judgement, calum turns around to face y/n, out like a light. she looks comfortable â she looks at peace. calum subconsciously forms a small smile, and moves the few hairs out of her face.
and in this moment, he vowed to do better. be better. not only for her, but his bestfriends, and himself.
â
heâs surprised when he sees the caller id pop up on his phone. not only that, but heâs kind of scared as well. after not talking to him for what felt like the longest theyâve ever gone without doing such, how do you approach the conversation?
luke picks up calumâs call on the third ring. âhey, cal,â he begins. âluke, i know i have a lot to explain and i just wanted to say that iâm sorry. but i think itâs better if i come talk to you in person, do you think we could do that today?â calum asks.
âiâll be at your place in ten minutes.â and with that, lukeâs out the door.
â
âyou look like you havenât gotten any sleep.â luke states the second calum opens the door for him. âi havenât. i also havenât changed my clothes in 3 days,â he responds, gesturing to the black hoodie and grey sweatpants he has on.
the two take a seat on the couch across from each other before calum cuts right to the chase: âi stayed at y/nâs house last night.â
luke looks shocked when the words leave his mouth, âwhat? how? why?â
âshe called me, and she was at the bar alone. she said she was just leaving and that she called me to tell me she was thinking of me, but i couldnât just let her get home alone so i drove to her and dropped her off. and she was saying⌠she was saying how she feels like itâs her fault i acted the way i did after our breakup. and, that if she could âdo it all over againâ she would. i tried telling her nothing is her fault, but i donât know if she took it. then she asked me to stay the night, and i did,â
âwhatâs the matter, cal? why did you not want to talk to us? whatâs going on?â
itâs evident that lukeâs concerned, and itâs written all over his face. he looks almost scared ; scared for his best friend â his brother who he loves so much.
âluke, i donât know,â calumâs voice breaks, looking at him. âi saw you guys with y/n and it just - i just raged. iâve never felt so mad in my life and i canât blame anyone for it but me. and then seeing y/n act the way i did - do, i realized that the stress and hurt i was feeling was something that you guys were feeling about me, if not even worse. i didn't realize that i was ruining my life. with all the parties i threw and went to, all the fucking alcohol, i saw it as my way only out. but it wasnât. it changed me, and for the worse. iâm so sorry, luke. iâm so sorry to you, and ash, and mike. iâll apologize for the rest of my life if thatâs what it takes,â tears are running down the both of their faces as luke pulls him in for a hug.
âitâs okay, cal. itâs okay. we know youâre in a tough spot, and weâre here to help you. we were just worried. we all are.â luke reassures calum as he sobs into his arms.
"i need- i need to call ashton and michael. tell them i'm sorry. i need to-" "hey, hey, don't worry. i'll tell them to come here. it's okay cal, we'll all be okay. don't worry." luke cuts him off, pulling away and walking towards the kitchen.
"hey, i know it's kind of early, but somebody's here to see us. and it's important, so you might wanna get here fast."
within 15 minutes both boys opened luke's front door, to be greated by their teary eyed bandmate. they're already struggling to contain their emotions, and they all pull calum into a group hug. countless confessions, apologies, and tears are shared, and at the end of it, all four boys are certain of one thing:
that it's gonna be okay.
â
calum doesn't receive a call from y/n until the evening.
she's nervous, she's so fucking nervous; she could barely click his phone number. she's worried and embarassed and all around scared. she barely even knows what she's going to say to him.
"hello?"
"hi." she simpy responds, breathing in deeply. "sorry for not calling you sooner, i just finished my shift. and, thank you for helping me last night. i know it was out of your way."
"don't apologize, it's alright. and it was no problem, i'm just glad you ended up home safe."
there's silence on both ends before y/n speaks up again. "are you busy right now? do you think, do you- can i come over?"
"oh i- oh yeah totally, for sure." what the fuck. calum feels like a thirteen year old boy talking to his middle school crush for the first time with the way he's stumbling across his words.
"okay, see you." and y/n abruptly ends the phone call before rushing out of her house.
calum's sitting and fidgeting with his hands when y/n knocks on his door. slowly walking towards and opening it, he's greeted by the girl with a small smile on her face, wearing pyjamas and one of his old tour hoodies. "hi."
"hi, come in," he holds the door for her and she walks inside, kicking off her shoes, then following calum into the kitchen where he's grabbing two glasses. "want a drink?" he asks, her nodding in response before filling the glasses with water.
"i know you're probably wondering why i asked to come over," she starts, taking a big gulp from her glass. "and honestly, i'm kind of, uh, scared. nervous. but i know we needed to talk, about a lot of things. about us. about, everything really. and, i don't know if i'll ever be brave enough to say this again."
calum can almost feel the nerves radiating from y/n. to calm her down, he walks towards her and takes a seat next to her on the island, lightly placing his hand on top of hers before gesturing her to continue.
"i.. i know i shouldn't have left the way i did. i left you with nothing. no note, no 'goodbye', no anything. and i've regretted it ever since." she confesses, closing her eyes.
calum turns to face y/n, sadness planted on his face. "i understand why you did. i fucked up, beyond compare.. and, you did what you felt was best." this was gonna be a hard conversation to have. "yesterday.. you said, that if you could do it all over again, you would have. what do you mean by that? our relationship? or?"
"no, i meant, the end of it. we didn't even have a breakup â i just took my shit and left. i should've given you a chance to explain, have a fucking conversation like adults and instead i just, i was a coward! i just fucking left you. how could i have done that?!" y/n's visibly starting to get upset, tears forming from her eyes as she tries to continue. "and then i kept hearing what you were doing, and i couldn't help but feel like i'm the one to blame for that. maybe things would have gone better if i just, let you say something, anything to me. but i didn't. and for that, i am so, so sorry. i'll never be able to apologize enough for that."
calum's about to speak up, to tell her that nothing was her fault, that she shouldn't have to apologize, but she keeps going. "and then, at michael's house. i never meant to hurt you. they were just, looking out for you and they wanted me to try and help you. when you came over and i saw the look on your face, i-i felt even more guilty, and then.. and then mike told me you went m.i.a on them, and i just - it's all my fucking fault, isn't it cal?"
y/n's in hysterics by the end of her sentence, and calum can't stand to see the sight of her in pain because of him again. he pulls her into his arms, stroking her hair while he whispers everything from no, no it's not to it's okay.
"it's not your fault, i promise, y/n, it's not," he tries to reassure her. "we both made a mistake. everything i did.. the way i acted, it's on me," calum whispers, holding her tighter, hoping that would help take all her pain away.
"i'm sorry i never realized i was leaving you behind. you're the most important person to me, and the one thing i thought i'd never do was hurt you. but that's exactly what i did. and for that.. i'm not sure i'll ever forgive myself. i lost the one thing i thought that i would have for the rest of my life, and there's nobody to blame for that but myself. not you. it was never you." calum confesses, his throat tightening up as he prepares to cry for what felt like the hundreth time that day.
she pulls away slightly, her broken, tear-stained eyes facing his soft brown ones. "i care, so fucking much about you. and knowing you were upset, and turning to alcohol, i just... i love you calum, okay? i'm not sure i'll ever feel the same way about anyone the way i did with you. i've been so fucking scared because i can't stand the thought of anything bad happening to you and i, i'm sorry cal. i'm sorry i wasn't there for you."
"no, y/n, please stop apologizing. i'm sorry that i wasn't there for you."
the pair let their emotions get the best of them, holding each other as fucking tight as they possibly could while sobs come out from the both of them. there was so many things left unsaid, and letting it all out â they both needed this. they needed each other.
calum thought that he'd never wound up in this position - doing everything in his power to reassure y/n that it's not her fault.
âiâm going to do better, okay y/n?â he quietly says to her, slightly pulling away from the embrace, taking her hand and intertwining it with hers. âiâm done with this shit, i promise. itâs not good for me - it never was. and iâm so sorry. for leaving you in the dust, and for making you worry. itâs not happening again. never again.â calum places a soft kiss to her hand while y/n wipes away her tears with her free hand. she nods in response, closing her eyes and leaning into his shoulder. sheâs exhausted, but sheâs happy they had the conversation. yeah, it might have resulted in choked sobs bouncing off every wall in the house, butâs it off her chest. itâs off his chest too. theyâve said everything they need to say.
âthank you, for, hearing me out. thank you for your apology, and thank you for.. everything.â y/n says to him, placing a small kiss on his cheek, before beginning to walk towards the door, and calum grabs her wrist lightly to stop her. âwait, youâre going?â
âyeah, what else would i do?â
calumâs so scared to ask this question, and he doesnât know what answer to expect from her. but if he lets her walk out that door, heâs not sure if heâll ever get the chance to ask her again.
âwhere does this leave us?â
âi donât.. i donât know,â she replies, as calum grabs her waist. âwhere do you want it to be?â
âi want it to be you and i.â he confesses. âwhat about you?â
âiâve always wanted it to be you and i.â smiles creep up on both their faces, and y/n lets out a sigh. âbut, things have changed and, and, i canât just pretend like the past didnât happen..â she trails off, a frown forming on her face.
she can leave again. she can leave, and he wonât be upset. but, calum has a chance at making everything right. with his friends, and with her. and quite frankly, y/n knows in her heart, she doesnât want to leave either.
âsleep on it. stay the night with me. in the morning, if you donât feel right about this, you can leave and iâll forever be thankful we had this talk. if we hadnât, who knows howâd i continue to act. and if you feel even the slightest bit right about this, i promise, i will never let myself hurt you again.â
as y/n looks into calumâs brown eyes, she sees a glimpse of hope lingering in them. and for once, she feels the hope between the two of them as well. relationships are bound to go through rough patches, and itâs safe to say that the two of them didnât handle them in the best way. she knows calum. and when calum hood is determined to fix something, anything, heâll do everything in his power to fix it.
so she grabs his hand and the two of them make their way upstairs, climbing into bed and falling asleep almost instantly.
and when calum wakes up to the girl he loves playing with his hair and kissing his forehead, he smiles, and makes another promise to himself: to never let her think sheâs anything less than a stupid party.

Songwriting is hard.
Writing the song itself is already a challenge, and it only gets harder when you have to gain the approval of other people before you can release it, and then you have the stress and pressure of wondering if other people will like it enough to listen to it, and promote it. Itâs a long process thatâs incredibly difficult on your mind, especially if youâre writing something vulnerable. And when youâre working with a band and other producers, thatâs at least three approving opinions you have to gain. So, itâs pretty nerve wracking to present an idea.Â
These were the thoughts going through Calumâs mind as he stared down at the paper heâd been scribbling on for the past few hours, trying to put something together that he would like. All of the other guys had already worked on something amazing, Luke had written one of their singles, âTake My Handâ, Michael had come up with a gut wrenchingly sad but beautiful melody for âEmotionsâ, and Ashton was in the process of working on âTears!â. Calum felt like he had to come up with something to match their level of intelligence, and for the first time in a while, he was doubting his lyrical ability.Â
Of course, nobody else in the room doubted him. They all knew that Calum had a wonderful mind, and whatever he wanted to produce, it would be great. But they also knew that he got into his own head, way too much sometimes, and it caused a lot of that creative process to grind its gears and get stuck for a while until it came back. And that could last hours, days, weeks, or months for him. They werenât on a time crunch with this album, but they could tell that Calum felt pressured to push something out at the same speed that they were, and neither of them wanted that to happen. If he pushed himself to get something out quickly, the quality of it wouldnât be where he wanted it to be, and he wouldnât be happy with it overall.Â
The studio session felt successful for everyone, except Cal. He felt that everyone else had been productive, but he hadnât. He had helped write on some of the other songs, but nothing really big on his own, and that felt like a major setback for him. Everyone walked out of the studio feeling great except for him, but he attempted to not let it show. However, when he got home to you, he dropped the facade and just wallowed in his feelings for a bit. You werenât an idiot, walking over to sit next to him on the couch, gently hugging him but not pushing him to talk.Â
âIf you want to talk about it, Iâm here. If not, Iâm still here. I love you, and whatever it is, will be okay.â
He softly smiled, but it didnât reach his eyes. You could tell it was forced, and softly frowned until he relaxed the mask. He sighed, seeing that you didnât believe him. Of course, he didnât expect you to, knowing that you knew him too well, but he gave it a feeble shot anyways.Â
âI just feel disappointed in myself.âÂ
You had a gentle look of sympathy on your face, understanding the feeling all too well.
âWhyâs that?âÂ
He lifted and dropped his shoulders, another sigh escaping his lips as he leaned more into your touch.Â
âEveryone else got so much done today, amazing lyrics, really. And I couldnât get anything good down except a few stanzas. Nothing good enough to present to the rest of them. Nowhere close.â
You hummed, having been with Calum long enough to know the double meaning behind his words.Â
âYou couldn't get anything done that you liked? Or anything done that you thought everyone else would like? Thereâs a difference, love.âÂ
He glared at you, but there was no heat behind it. He knew youâd see straight through his words, understanding and reading between the lines. He knew heâd been caught, but he still acted like he had to think about it before replying.Â
âNothing that I thought everyone else would like. I liked it, though.âÂ
You smiled, a soft laugh, no cruelty in it, echoing through the room.Â
âThatâs what I thought, babe. You do this a lot, you psych yourself out, and your lyrical ability is amazing. You believe so lowly in yourself, and I canât believe it sometimes, because you are so talented. Would you like to show me what you have written?âÂ
He had a gentle look on his face, not a smile, but not a grimace. He knew it was entirely his choice to show you, youâd never pressure him, and he did want to share it, he was just nervous. So, he pushed those feelings down, and pulled up a photograph of the paper heâd written. You zoomed in, reading the first paragraph words written in Calâs handwriting.Â
I can tell by the look in your eyes
That you don't wanna fight on a Friday night
Livin' my life, lookin' from the outside
I hope you don't mind that I ruined our time
I can tell by the look in your eyes
That you just wanna get on a one-way flight
'Cause you don't ever trust this mind of mine
You're watchin' me lie when I say that I'm fine
Without you
I don't even know myself (Know myself)
Through bloodshot eyes, the sky is fallin'
And I just wanna fuckin' push you away, away (Push you away)
Without you
You looked up at Calum, stopping after the second paragraph, the chorus. He was watching you with nervous eyes.Â
âBabe, this is amazing. I see no reason that anyone would ever say this isnât good. You should absolutely show this to the guys if you love it, okay? I fully believe theyâll love it too.âÂ
His eyes were showing hope, but his face looked like he didnât want to believe you.Â
âAre you sure?âÂ
âYes.âÂ
You were sure, and Calum trusted you with his whole heart. The next studio day, he took your advice, having added another verse, and let the rest of the band see what heâd come up with. And just like youâd said, they loved it. Luke helped him write the bridge, and Ashton tweaked a few things, but Calum got the majority of the writing credits, and it was automatically decided to be on the album bonus tracks, track number fifteen. Everyone was so proud of his writing, and he, finally, believed it as well.

c.h. | you don't go to parties
back to my masterlist
pairing ; calum hood x reader
requested ; no
summary ; we've all heard the song i think you get it
warnings ! secret relationship, mention of alcohol and drug consumption, no happy ending
word count ; 937
a/n ; been awhile! sorry about that but i've had this concept in my head for a bit. i'm sure someone else has already done this, but i'm a sucker for angst so i figured i'd write some. enjoy!
Five years. That's a long time to being loving someone. A time where you give your all to that person. A time where you plan a future. A time where you share dreams and goals, even create some together. And all the time together only makes it hurt more when it's over.
Calum is a private guy, much more reserved than the other boys in the band. That's how he managed to keep your relationship under lock and key for so long. Cozy days in with him and Duke were the go to. The only time you two would be seen together was at parties when it was easy to blame the fact of Calum being with a girl on all the alcohol and/or drugs consumed that night.
It was easier when Calum was gone on tour or writing trips. Easier to forget all the pain the hiding brought you. You had wanted to tell the world, but Calum made it clear that wasn't his intention any time soon. He told you it was to protect you from all the negative attention that would inevitably come your way. You weren't sure you believed that anymore.
And so you brought it up one night.
"Cal," you whispered softly. So softly that if the two of you were doing anything but sitting on his couch in silence he wouldn't have heard it.
He responded with your name and when you stayed silent for a little too long he got worried, asking, "What's wrong, love?"
"I'm tired of quiet nights at home and parties," you admitted with a sigh. "I'm tired of no one knowing we're together."
"I told you, I'm trying to protect you," he reminded you. "Besides the people who matter know. Isn't that enough?"
"I don't know anymore." You pushed yourself away from him, turning to look into his eyes. "I just know I feel terrible hiding this. Us. So terrible that I can't sleep some nights."
"Why are you bringing this up now?" Calum asked. "I thought things were good. That you were happy with it being just us."
"I am happy," you reaffirmed. "I'm just... I could be happier."
"Can't we just talk about this later? Let's not ruin a good night."
"Sure."
But the pit in your stomach didn't go away as Calum pulled you into his chest again. And that was only the beginning of all the arguments. The beginning of the end.
"I'm tired, Calum," you shouted over the bed at him. The exhaustion was clear on your face. "Can we just go to bed and talk about this in the morning?"
"No. I want to talk now."
"That's a first," you mumbled.
"What was that?" Calum said, glaring at you accusingly.
"Nothing, just that you're the one usually putting this conversation off, and I'm the one continuously begging you to have it. What changed?"
"You! You changed!" Calum shouted. "You're giving up."
"Well, I've accepted the fact that I'm clearly not winning this argument," you admitted. "You don't want to be seen with me and that's fine. But you couldn't have expected I'd be quiet about it forever."
"Not forever," Calum said. "Just until I'm ready."
"And when will that be?"
The silence gave you your answer.
"I'm sick and tired, Calum," you repeated. "I can't deal with this. I won't be a secret anymore."
"What are you saying?" Calum asked, though he was sure he already knew.
"I'm saying I'm done," you said firmly, looking him straight in the eye. "I don't even want to stay one more night here. It makes me feel filthy being your secret. Like you could never want to be seen with me."
Calum says your name, enough love in the way he says it that it only hurts more than helps. "That's not true and you know it."
"No, I don't. Because it hasn't felt that way in a long time." You begin to collect your things, staying true to your word about leaving tonight. "I'll be back for the rest of my things later this week."
The way he says your name now is pleading. "Don't go. We can talk-"
"I'm tired of talking," you say, your tone truly exhausted. "Just let me go. Make this easy for once."
And he let you.
The next time Calum saw you was months later. Or at least he thought it was you.
He had been going to parties and getting all kinds of fucked up ever since you left. He had hoped you guys could talk when you got the rest of your things from his house, but you had sent a friend instead. One who had clearly been in the loop and did nothing but glare at him the whole time.
Since then he was drinking all day and all night at any houseparty he could find, drinking again the next day as some sort of hangover cure. It worked for awhile. Let him forget.
Until he thought he saw a glimpse of your face at a party he was hosting. He had been well past drunk and someone had given him some pill he couldn't remember the name of but he swore it had been you. Your hair, your eyes, your smile.
He stumbled off the couch after you, but you had been lost in the sea of people already. For the remainder of the party he went around trying to find you, asking people if they'd seen you, telling them all that had gone down between you including the good, the bad, and the ugly.
He never found you.
'Cause you don't go to parties anymore.

My masterlist // taglist on bio!
Calum was choking the hell out of his beer can, leaving the imprints of his fingers as evidence for the poor soul that had to clean this mess up later.
It was an unconscious type of thing - heâs been doing a lot of unconscious things lately, none of them his fault, he would argue - but the intent behind it is nothing innocent.
There was a time when he used to be the life of the party. Or at least a bit more vivid than just standing in a far-off corner glaring at someone who barely paid attention to him. He didnât mean to glare or to even look in their direction, but it was impossible to take his eyes off them. It was almost as if he wanted to hurt so badly heâd find a way out of heartache. Battle fire with fire and those sorts of things.
âOkay, who are we hatinâ?â
He didnât even need to look to his right to know that Ashton was standing there even before he spoke. His friend - the ever more intuitive when it came to talking about heartbreak or breaking hearts - should already know the answer to his question, and Calum knows he knows. Ashton just wants him to admit it.
Still, Ashton followed his gaze till it landed on the target.
âCal,â He sighed âYou canât keep doing this to yourself. Nor her, for that matterâ
âIâm not doing anythingâ Calum mumbled into his drink.
âYouâre overthinkingâ
âAnd you should mind your own businessâ He spat, leaving the poor, abused can on the shelf behind him.
Calum walked outside, trying to get some air before his hands started roaming through his pockets looking for his pack of cigarettes. He tried to quit it, and many times he tried in vain. There was always something that pulled him into the vice again. Tonight was the selfish need of having the power to hurt himself without people noticing. Something he could regret tomorrow. Something that didnât involve making the mistake of spilling and saying what he shouldâve said years ago.
The lighter provided the only gleam of the outsides that night. As Calum inhaled the toxins of his favorite weapon, he closed his eyes and hoped to wake up and let all of this be a dream. But that wish went away with the smoke he pulled out of his lungs, watching it disappear into the night till it merged with the stars above.
He was not a man used to not getting what he wanted. So is this a gut punch to his ego? Yes, of course. But had he not been in love for some time heâd believe that itâll come to pass, ignoring the heart-wrenching reality of him not being able to lightly caress your hair with the tip of his fingers; or not care about how his body moved him toward your space every time you were around; or claim that the times you were both in a group laughing, he would stare at you, drinking on your reaction and getting drunk of your laugh, while you stared at someone else.
It was just usual for him not getting what he wanted. But this was beyond any desire of his. This, for a lack of better words, was beyond his reach. And he hated it. He hated every moment of it since the first time he realized it, hoping itâll go away.
But what could he expect from falling for his best friend?
*
Calum always believed in past lives and how youâre meant to reconnect with people that have meant something important to you. Whether it was in the form of a mother, a father, a pet, a friend, a teacher, a lover⌠Soulmates will find their way.
He also believed that his brothers were his soulmates. He knows deep in his heart that Luke, Michael, Ashton, and himself were meant to meet in every life, making music and sharing their message across the world for other people to hear. He also believed that his dog, Duke, mightâve come to him as a guide. An old teacher who bound his life to appear in the moments he needed most. He believes that his family would always be his family, maybe in different ways, but theyâll always come together one way or another.
Now, there is one thing Calum isnât sure of, and that is you.
What were you to him before? Why are you here with him? And why does he feel compelled to be your everything?
When you met years ago, Calum didnât think much of that first encounter. You were just a friend of a friend, a normal acquaintance. But then you kept meeting each other, whether at a party or a concert. And every time you grew closer. Whether it was the jokes you shared, the similar tastes in music and movies, the way you made each other laugh, or the secret codes you accidentally created. He was just eighteen back then, but he knew it had to mean something.
He just couldnât figure out what role you played in his life. Not yet, at least.
âI donât think that because you had a bad experience with milk you become lactose intolerant,â You said casually as you applied your mascara in the mirror.
It was not unusual for Calum to find himself pressing the facetime button to call you every day now, especially given that he was on the other side of the country touring with his band. The calls would mostly consist of him telling you about his day and you doing the same as the two of you would go on with your lives as if you were in the same room together even though youâre miles apart.
The two of you would indulge in conversations that could be as deep as a puddle of water - as the one youâre having now - or as deep as the sea. Never once feeling uncomfortable or falling silent. And even in the quiet types of calls, when you only need to feel each otherâs presence after a long day, you would embrace the silence as a comfort rather than an inconvenience.
And Calum loved that. He loved these little moments with you. It didnât matter if they lasted two minutes or three hours. He just knew that talking to you was one of the top best moments of his day.
He just didnât understand why yet
âI could be, thoughâ He pouted, watching as you applied blush to your cheeks âAnd the next time you take me for ice cream I might die and itâll be your fault for playing it downâ
You chuckled âI donât think thatâs how it works, babeâ
And there it was, that little, weird feeling that made him all warm and fuzzy inside, triggered by a nickname. Calum quickly swallowed it down, just marking it up as the victory that was to make you laugh.
Still, he changed the subject.
âWhy are you getting all dolled up?â He asked. Ignoring the way Luke looked at him for a second before going back to playing subway surfers on his phone.
âIâm going outâ
âWhere?â
âDinner I guess, probably dancing afterwardâ You shrugged, trying to decide on which lipstick would suit best with your outfit.
âGirls' night?â
âNo, itâs more like a date, I think. Well, he didnât actually say âdate - dateâ but I mean, he did everything you do when you ask someone for a date and-â You looked at your phone screen âAre you okay?â
Only then did Calum realize he clenched his jaw. He blinked at you and disguised it with a fake yawn.
âI didnât know you had a date,â He said, trying to sound uninterested, but Lukeâs eyes on him told him he was a bullshit actor.
You didnât seem to catch it, though.
âI told you I was going out with Jessieâ
âI thought you meant Jessicaâ
âDoes it matter?â You asked, cornering him to a wall - metaphorically.
Calum sighed âNope, just be safe and have fun, alright?â
You rolled your eyes and sarcastically said âYes, dadâ as you applied some gloss. Just in time for the doorbell to ring âOops, thatâs him. Wish me luck!â
And it mightâve been your smile and the way your eyes lit up when the doorbell rang knowing it was Jessie on the other side, or it mightâve been the spoiled milk he had in his coffee earlier. But there was an uneasy, foreign feeling in Calumâs chest as you said goodbye. Almost as if he didnât want you to go at all.
But that was crazy. Itâs probably nothing. So he smiled tightly and said âBye, Y/N/Nâ and watched as you faded away before the facetime call ended.
Calum closed his eyes for a moment, frowning upon discovering this sunken feeling in his chest.
However, it didnât last much as Luke was suddenly blasting âJessieâs girlâ through the hotel roomâs speakers. Calum - rightfully so - smacked him with a pillow.
âShut upâ He groaned.
âI didnât say anything!â Luke laughed
âYou were going to!â
âHow the fuck should you know?!â
A string of grumbled curses left Calumâs lips as he got up from the bed and went through his suitcase.
âWhat are you doing?â
âIâm going out with Ash, wanna come?â He said, putting on a clean shirt.
âI didnât know you were going outâ Luke commented as he got up and went to find a shirt as well.
âWe are now, câmonâ
To say the other two were surprised by Calumâs sudden need to go partying was an understatement given that Michael already was in his pajamas when the bassist went and knocked on their door, but neither of them was opposed to the idea. Soon, the whole band was dancing and drinking out at a club neither of them knew about one hour ago.
And if Calum was seen dancing and making out with a girl that looked like you, it was no oneâs business but his own. And when he woke up next to a said girl a few hours later, no one needed to know.
*
The night was turning warmer, though that could be because of the alcohol and the three cigarettes he had since he came outside. The party was still in full swing but he wanted no part of that. Not when you were there with⌠him.
Itâs stupid and he knows it. To have this unsolved grudge against you and every person you date.
You donât owe him anything, no explanation or justification for any relationship you had or the one you were currently in. But he canât help it. Itâs just that every time he sees you wrapped around your partnerâs arms he just wants to rip them off you and shield you from anyoneâs eyes. From the moment he first noticed his feelings toward you it was clear that he couldnât act on them to not ruin the relationship you two have.
He hates them. Every single one of them, every bloke that broke your heart or made you cry. He hates the ones you fell in love with, the ones that loved you back. The one thatâs sitting on the couch next to you with his arms around your shoulder and the one that makes you laugh. He hates him the most and heâs not above showing it.
Itâs not healthy but he doesnât know how to stop.
âWhy are you so protective of me?â You asked him once and he didnât know how to tell you, so he made his heart quiet as his mind gave him a logical reason.
There were so many times when he couldâve fessed up and just tell you as it is. To make him the one that you would share your nights with instead of useless men who are not worthy of you.
Was he worthy of you?
Time for another cigarette.
*
Calum opened the door to find you there with a friendly smile; a pint of ice cream; a skin-care kit; and a bottle of wine. He couldnât help but laugh as he stepped back so you could enter his house.
âI told you Iâm fine,â He said, shaking his head as you made yourself comfortable on his couch, settling all the post-break-up necessities on the table.
âAnd I believe you,â You shrugged. âBut I also know you, Cal. And you say youâre okay now but in a week itâll all crash down as it always does because you bottle up your feelings. So letâs get them out of the way while we avoid the wreckageâ
âI thought you didnât even like her,â He said, sitting down next to you.
âI never said that!â
Calum gave you a look.
âI just didnât think you were a good fit⌠thatâs allâ You confessed sheepishly.
Calum sighed âWell, you were rightâ
âI didnât want to beâ You scooted closer to him âIâm sorry, Cal. You truly seemed happy with her. And I liked seeing you happyâ
He nodded but didnât say anything. The break-up happened just a couple of days ago, and you were right when it came to talking about feelings now rather than later. But it was all so very new to him.
âI just- I never had a relationship like this beforeâ He confessed.
âYou really liked her, didnât you?â
And yes, he did. For the first time in years, Calum could actually focus on a relationship. He had met his ex at a party, they talked all night and then he went home with her number saved on his phone. What followed were almost two years of amazing moments and memories filled with love but⌠something wasnât right.
It wasnât something any of them did, it just sort of happened. Blame the routine and the lack of effort from both parties, but they didnât feel as if the relationship should continue. Yes, he would always feel something for her and would treasure those memories with care. Yet, he canât say heâs sad and broken.
All his past relationships ended in heartbreak because his partners felt like a third wheel in their own relationships. And they had every right to break up with him. For all he knew, Calum just jumped into those relationships to get over you or to distract himself into loving another person that wasnât you, all for nothing. Yet this relationship seemed like the real deal, the one that could actually sweep him off his feet and take his mind off of you, truly making him feel alive. And it worked until it didnât. Until she called things off saying
âI donât know if itâs me or if itâs you, but this is not working. We havenât been working for a while now, have we?â
All he could do was agree and let her go. He loved her enough to do that without a fight. Or didnât love her as he should. And maybe all she wanted was for him to fight for them, guess he let themselves down on that one. But if all these break-ups had something in common, is that you would always be there by his side to cheer him up.
âShe deserves someone that can provide her with what she needs,â He said as you both sit with face masks and two glasses of wine filled to the brim âI guess it was not meant to be meâ
âIâm sorry, Calâ You gave him a small, apologetic smile, while your hand went to his shoulder and squeezed it. His hand soon fell on top of yours âIâm proud of your decision, though, you and hers. Itâs not healthy to be hung up in a relationship thatâs just not going anywhereâ
âYeah, I knowâ He sighed, hiding the small smile that popped up when you didnât retrieve your hand from his âItâs not like Iâm heartbroken or anything, itâs just- I guess Iâm just frustrated that we couldnât make it work. None of my relationships seem to last because of thatâ
âWell, have you wondered why?â You sat up with interest, turning toward him and moving your hand to his thigh. Something completely innocent on your part, but that still made Calumâs heart beat a little bit faster.
âOf course I haveâ
âSo what is keeping you from going after what you want in a relationship? Is it a previous heartbreak?â
âNo⌠I donât think I had one of those beforeâ He said like a liar.
He knew that his heart was in perpetual mourning because of you, he was just too proud to admit it. All his past attempts at love were only meant to get over you and forget about the person you were currently hung up with.
Whenever you would tell him about a date or a new partner heâd made sure heâd have another story for you. Some of them made up on the spot, some taking inspiration from one of his friendâs dates, some of them real but without the same, genuine excitement you showed for your love life. A love life that didnât include him.
Unconsciously, he made it a competition. Did you go on a date? He went on two. Did you kiss someone? He spent the night in another bed. All just so you could give him some type of reaction. Any indication that you were mad or uncomfortable about it. About him dating someone that isn't you. But every time you were supportive, feeling happy for him, and even encouraging him to call girls he didnât even want to know more than just a one-night stand.
Calum only ever wanted for you to feel like he feels whenever he has to hear about the new guy that brought you flowers; the one that took you on a spontaneous trip to the Grand Canyon; or the one that cooked you a homemade meal for your first date. All the things that were killing him, he hoped you could feel at least a small amount of it. Waiting for you to realize it sooner rather than later.
âWhat?â You chuckled, nudging him with your elbow âThe great Calum Hood never had his heart broken, he just breaks all the hearts along the wayâ
He laughed, pushing you slightly âNot all the heartsâ
âOh yeah, the other ones are Ashtonâs jobâ
Calum just shook his head, quieting the voice in his head telling him that he didnât break all the hearts because he was not going to break yours if given the chance to have it.
âLaugh all you want, you little gremlin,â He said
âAww, Cal, Iâm sorryâ You pouted âI didnât mean to upset you. I just really want you to be happy, you know? Find your person and all of thatâ
âI am happy, Y/Nâ He stated matter-of-factly âI have the band, the fans, Duke⌠I have youâ
âI know, and Iâm also so happy to have youâ You smiled, lacing your fingers with his âBut Iâm talking about âthe oneâ. You know, the one that makes your heart go crazy and the world spin around slower. The one that occupies your mind and every time you think about them you canât help but smile. Someone that you can actually fall in love with. Iâm not talking about marriage or things that we donât believe in most of the time. But the one that makes the heartbreaks and disappointments all worth it because it led you to themâ
Calum stared at you with an unreadable look in his eyes. How could you describe exactly what he was feeling but still have no idea that he has those feelings for you?
It has been a long time since he accepted you as being more than friends, or at least in his heart he knows you could be more. You were just perfect in every way, made just for him. And he loves you, he loves you so much without a hint of fear or doubt. But you just canât see it.
âMaybe there is someoneâŚâ He mumbled, ready to spill his heart out to you on a silver platter.
But before you could register his words, your phone started ringing.
âShit, wait a second,â You said, grabbing your phone from the table. Calum saw the small smile that formed on your lips before you declined the call âSorry, what did you say?â
âY/N, I-â He started again, and once again your phone interrupted him. He sighed âYou should get thatâ
âWhat?â You asked, already silencing the phone again âNo, itâs nothing, I promiseâ
âWho is it, though?â
âOh, itâs just Mattâ
âMatt?â
âYeah, I told you about him, remember?â And he wished he didnât.
You told him you were going on a date with someone called Matt a couple of weeks ago. He didnât know you were still talking, let alone that you moved on to the âcallâ phase of the relationship. And now he couldnât help but notice the gleam in your eyes when you said his name, a gleam that he knew would never be reserved for him.
âI forgot to tell him that he neednât call me tonightâ You sighed, already texting him. Calum could see the disappointment in your eyes.
âYou should call himâ
âWhat? No, Cal, Iâm here for you and nothing is going to change thatâ
âI know, and thank you for that,â He said, faking his smile as much as he could âBut I know you, and I know you want to call him so go ahead. I donât mindâ
You sighed âThanks, babe. Iâm just going to tell him tonight is off limits, itâll take five minutes and then Iâm all yoursâ
Oh and how it hurt him hearing you laugh from the kitchen as those five minutes went on. You sounded so happy and full of joy⌠he couldnât take that from you now and, plus, would you even believe him?
Matt⌠what does he have that Calum doesnât? Apparently, all the necessary to make you come back all giddy and blushing.
And when you sat up next to him and changed the topic back to Calum, his glass was already half empty.
*
âHey, mateâ Calum heard after the door slid open. Ashton soon stood next to him âReady to go back in there?â
âWould Michael miss me if I donât sing happy birthday to him?â
âYou will break his heartâ Ashton chuckled, trying to make him laugh as well but to no avail âYou canât avoid her forever, you know? Sheâs starting to noticeâ
âWell about fucking timeâ Calum spat, throwing the last of his cigarette to the floor.
Ashton sighed âCal, câmon⌠Itâs not fair on herâ
âItâs not fair to me either! What do you think, Ash? Do you think itâs funny for me to see her with him? To know every fucking detail of her happy life with Matt as if it didnât kill me inside? Itâs been years! Years where I have been so fucking close to telling her how I feel but thereâs always him in the middle!â
He wasnât crying, and he would not cry either. But he stopped hiding the rage he felt as his true feelings came spilling out of his mouth like a fountain of truth. Heâd never said any of this out loud but now it seemed impossible to stop it.
âIâm just so fucking tired of seeing her with him. Seeing her kissing him, holding his hand, going on dates⌠All the things I should be doing with herâ
âCalâŚâ
âNo, fuck it! Itâs true! It should be me! It always shouldâve been meâ His voice broke a little in the end âI should be the one in his place. I shouldâve told her everything that night years ago, then I could be the one sitting on the couch with her, laughing and sharing those touches she thinks no one sees. But I do. All the fucking time those moments play on a loop inside my head and itâs making me want to scream. Sheâs the first girl I ever loved, the one that breaks my heart every single day because I keep letting her. Sheâs the one thatâs making me feel like this without her knowing and itâs not fair! I could go in there right now and tell her how I feel but that wonât change a thing! Sheâll still choose him! But I loved her first, Ash. I loved her first!â
Suddenly, all the air in his lungs was being crushed as Ashton brought him closer for a bone-wrenching hug.
For the first time that night, Calum relaxed. He let his body fall against Ashtonâs frame as he hugged him back, hiding his face in his neck as the high of his confession wore off.
âI know it hurts,â Ashton said, lowly âBut you canât keep doing this to yourself, Calâ
âI know,â He sighed, pulling himself from the hug and patting Ashtonâs arms âI donât want to feel this way but I just canât- I canât let her goâ
âThen try. You love her, do that for herâ
âBut what if-â
âIf she feels the same and realizes that someday, then sheâll come to you. Donât keep on waiting for an âifâ Cal, you deserve more than that and so does Y/Nâ
Calum sighed and nodded, shaking his head a minute later from the overload of feelings. It wasnât normal for him to snap like that, but it has been years since he kept it all in. It was bound to come out sooner or later, but heâd hope for a better outcome.
âKnock-knock!â Someone said behind them âAm I interrupting something?â
The two of them turn around to find you standing at the door, smiling at them as if nothing happened.
Immediately Calum started to panic, fearing that youâd heard everything. He said he hated your boyfriend, that he wishes heâd take his place, that he loved you⌠And you mightâve heard all of it while he was on a rant.
âH-hey, Y/N! Not at all, whatâs up?â Ashton played the calm one, giving Calum time to freak out internally.
You were still smiling at them as you pointed back inside âWeâre about to sing happy birthday, didnât think you wanted to miss outâ
You were acting so calm, with a big, kind smile on your face. Maybe you didnât hear anything and just watched them hug awkwardly for a minute there. Calum could only hope. But then you smiled at him and nudged your head toward the party, and all he could do was breathe out and smile back, calming his nerves a little bit.
The three of you went back inside, quickly surrounding Michael as Luke brought out the cake and you all started to sing.
Calum looked back at you, standing next to Matt and leaning your head on his shoulder as your hands laced together. You looked briefly at your boyfriend and smiled, looking as happy as ever.
âHappy birthday dear MichaelâŚâ
And then it happened. For just one moment you looked back at Calum when he was already looking at you and his heart stopped.
You gave him a small, sad smile and shook your head no.
âHappy birthday to you!â
And all his hopes went away with the blow of the candles. * * tags: @iknowyouthinkimbulletproof @mystic-232 @talksoprettyjjx @theshyspy @hoodhoran @hoodharlow @littledrummeraussie @bubblegum183 @irwin-fletcher-ash @wiiildflowerrr @in-a-world-of-fandoms @another-lonely-heart @aabc5sauce @in-superbloom @sadcupofcoffee @personalmuyverypersonal @himbohood @sofiaaraee @irwindoll @weasleytwinscumslut @fairytrice @colourfulcal @nibin0912 @hfkait @savagejane1 @youneedtocalumdown @heyitskelseaj @ashtonsunflower @nicebasscalum @calumspupils @secretsicanthideanymore @alltimesos @wontlastimokwiththat @whywontyoulovemecami @theimpossiblehologramtree @perriexed @abiancajg @rewmuslupin @icelily13 @bookthingz @gracieboogirl @fastandtheformula1 @fckingpernico @multistann @averageantichrist @a-darneddarling @plaidshirtyears @ihavenoideawhattodowithyou @bittersweetb4by @aria-grace-scott @thestarsandtheircoffee @bvbygxrl @luisa180206 @xxxlaura @iamdayanaz @flyingburrito123 @drugerlime

you weren't a stranger to relationships, and you'd had your fair share of them over the years. which you were aware that everyone else did, but you werenât really serious about relationships. you didn't want to be with someone who didn't envision a future with you or who didn't share your goals.
your friends often told you that you should let loose and enjoy yourself, but that was not the life for you.
you had been in a very healthy relationship with someone you had known since college for the past few years. however, as time went, he became increasingly open about his needs for different things and eventually ended his relationship with you.
you went into a deep depression after the breakup, you didn't leave your apartment for weeks, you only showered maybe twice, and you couldn't remember the last time you ate anything other than instant noodles or ice cream.
what else could you do while you were wasting away? you had imagined spending the rest of your life with him, and now heâs gone.
your life seemed to change overnight.
while your friends and family around tried being there for you, you had pushed them so far away that they had just decided to give up on you. except, your best friend, olivia, finally dragged you out of your bed and forced you to shower so you could go out for the night with her.
âyou need to get out, have fun, and forget about that jerkâ she states, standing above you as she glides eyeliner on your eyes. âyouâre hot, youâre fun, you have a great personality. iâm sure we can find you someone tonight!â she adds while finishing your makeup.
âoliviaâŚâ you sigh then look into the mirror, watching as your friend painted your face with a determined look in her eye. âno. weâre gonna have fun, weâre gonna party and get drunk. kay? you need this.â she grins, resting her head on your shoulder looking at you in the mirror. ânow, go change into the outfit i brought you.â
"where are we going, anyway?" you ask, pulling at your skirt, which was riding up as you moved. you loved olivia, but some of her dress choices made you uncomfortable. "my brother got us into the pre-release party for the band five seconds of summer," she adds, gazing down at her phone for directions to the club, a hole in the wall on broadway. "what?!" you exclaim, your eyes widening. "how did he do that?" olivia laughs and clasps her arm around yours. "well, when you have a brother who manages a band, you kinda get vip treatment," she spoke with a grin. "plus, I told him how you've been feeling down, so he talked to the guys and they said it was fine," she chuckled softly, as the two of you continued your journey to the club.
the entry to the club was immediately visible due to the brilliant pink, purple, and red lights illuminating the street, as well as record posters in the windows. "this has to be it," olivia says as she opens the door for you, walking in after.
this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so you should be excited, right? but you couldn't shake the nagging guilt on the inside.
itâs okay to move on, right?
olivia leads you to the bar and orders a couple shots, "to your drop dead ex and a new beginning!" olivia cheers, toasting the glasses and the two of you downing the liquor.
you were about to start speaking when you were interrupted by olivia's brother, mark.
"it's been a long time, y/n!" he welcomes you with a shout. âhowâs it going?â he asks, you see olivia roll her eyes and turn to her brother. âmark, we were having a conversation.â she states matter of a factly.
"i know, but I just wanted to introduce you to some of my buddies," the tall ginger says, stepping to the side and revealing four taller men. mark introduces them, "this is luke." he had blond curly hair, ocean blue eyes, and a white button-down shirt with the top button undone.
"michael," he said, his pink hair slicked to the side, a black snapback on, with a small wave of his hand in greeting. "ashton.â he had curly hair like luke, but it was fashioned in a 60âs greaser type of way, he smiled at you warmly, extending his hand for you to shake, the two of you nodding in acknowledgment of the other. "last- but not least, calum."
your gaze met his brown eyes, his chocolate curls resting just above his eyes as he looked you in the eyes. he was dressed in a white button-down shirt with black stripes that complemented his tanned and tattooed skin. he softly whispered "hi" as he squeezed his lips together in a smile. you smile back and nod. "hi.â calum's gaze lingers longer than he would have preferred, but he couldn't help himself. no way, not with you dressed like that. the way the black skirt clung to your hips and the dark blue halter top left nothing for the imagination
âguys this is my sister, olivia, and her friend, y/n.â mark says, pointing to the two of you, bringing calum out of his daydream. ânice to meet you guysâ you say, offering a warm smile and they all nod to you. âare you staying for the show?â ashton inquired, olivia nods. âof course we are! wouldnât miss it for a thing.â she gently nudges your arm, you laugh softly and nod.
"great, can't wait for you all to hear the album," ashton says, as the other three nod in agreement. "well, I have to get them backstage, but I'll see you later, okay?" mark replies, and you and olivia nod as the group disappears into the busy room.
as the show began, olivia tugged you closer to the stage, two rows back. the lights dimmed and you heard a huge cheer from the audience as the four boys you had just met took the stage.
your gaze was drawn to calum, who seemed engrossed with the music. how he made it appear so easy while looking so nice. you kept an eye on him for the majority of the night, but your mind was elsewhere.
you had found your way to the bar after the show had concluded; it was a terrific show, as expected, but seeing the band live was a weird experience, and you just couldn't enjoy yourself given your circumstances.
you found yourself reminiscing on your relationship during songs like "lie to me" and "why won't you love me," wondering whether you would have said something different or been more open to him. maybe youâd still be together.
you finish the drink you ordered and search the crowd for your best friend, but when you can't find her, you return your attention to the empty glass in front of you watching it being filled.
"was our stage set really that bad?" when you hear a voice, you quickly look up to find the person who is speaking. "i saw you, you seemed unhappy," calum adds, leaning on the bar. you shook your head and let out a breathless laugh. "no, it was actually very good," you say with a smile.
calum's gaze lingered, he leaned forward. "but? you were definitely not having a good time." you shrug and allow the bartender to refill your drink. "well, i got dumped not too long ago." "so", you trail off, messing with the glass in your hand.
"just not in the mood for a party, i guess," you shrug, and you hear calum hum. he switches his weight from one leg to the other. "actually, you looked pretty hot on stage," you cover your mouth and widen your eyes. "oh my goodness...i." you can't help but giggle, "i'm so sorry," you shake your head, and then gulp the last of the drink in the hopes that it will provide you with some liquid courage.
"you think I'm pretty hotâ?" he asks, his brow furrowed and his tongue protruding from the inside of his cheek. "no..i.." you sigh, removing some of your hair from your face. calum chuckles "no, no. you said it, you think I'm hot," he says in a teasing manner, crossing his arms with a quirked eyebrow.
calum would be lying if he said he didnât think you were attractive as well. he had been eyeing you all night and figured, why not have some fun?
âwhat are you doing after this?â he asks, stepping a tad closer to you. now, he was just a few inches from your side and you caught wind of his cologne. you look down at the empty glass again, wondering what youâd say. you knew what he meant, and you had never done anything of the sort.
âwell that dependsâ you answer, looking up from the glass and letting your eyes meet his. âwell, i was kinda hoping youâd want to leave here with meâ calum suggests with a smirk. you smile, figuring you could let lose for one night. âsounds great.â
it was just one night..right?
your eyelids flutter open, and you immediately feel a piercing pain in your temple. you groan silently and look about until you realize you're not in your bedroom when you peek over your shoulder, you notice a figure.
he was facing you, on his side. his curls were brushed back, his lips were slightly parted, and his arm was resting on your waist.
"oh, shit.." you think as you sit up against his headboard, drawing the loose sheet closer to your chest. your mind is filled with images from the previous night. meeting him, and then their brief talk in the bar. you rubbed your temples, still reeling from what you'd done.
you had slept with calum hood.
you had to get out of there because you couldn't believe what you'd done. you were never the type to do something like that. you attempted to remove the sheet so you could hurry up and put on your clothes from the night before and go home. however, while you were doing so, calum's arm gently tugged on your waist. "stay.."
when you looked at him, his eyes were still closed. you didn't move, feeling frozen as your gaze landed on the arm that framed your waist. you couldnt lie, calum was very attractive.
eventually, you finally managed to break free from his touch, and you threw on your clothing while searching for your phone and handbag. you discreetly opened and closed the door, making your way through the house to the front entrance.
you come to a halt as you pick up your shoes, pondering whether or not to leave your phone number for him. but you tell yourself that you'll never see him again, opening the door and walking out.
you order a lift home and finally check at your phone's alerts. olivia left almost twenty messages and made thirty phone calls. you tell her you're okay and on your way home.
you opened your front door to find olivia racing towards you. "where the hell were you?!" she exclaims, her eyes wide open. you hush her with a "shh," dropping your shoes beside the door. "i texted and called you!" "i know, i know," you remark as you pass by her to your room. "you can't just leave like that!" she exclaims as she follows you.
"olivia.." you sigh and stand in your bathroom, removing the last of your makeup from the night before. "i'm sorry okay, i was drunk and he was right there in front of me." "who?" she asks as she leans against the doorway. "calum.."
there was radio silence for a split second before you glanced to olivia, who erupted. "you slept with calum hood!?!" she exclaims, lunging for your arm. "calum hood?!? the one from five seconds of summer?" you closed your eyes, your head still throbbing, and her ranting only made matters worse. "okay, yes? i was drunk, and he came up to me for a moment...and the following thing led to another..."
"you slept with calum!!!" the ginger laughs as she claps her hands and softly jumps up and down. "oh my god!! my y/n is getting some!" you groan, throwing away the makeup wipe while moving past her. "oh, god. ew!" you exclaim as you enter your bedroom in quest of your pajamas. "tell me everything!" she says as she sits on your bed. "uh..no.." you say as you begin to change.
"just...leave it, im not going to see him again," you say as you brush your hair after changing. "what?! didn't you leave your phone number or something?" "no, olivia, it was just one night," you shake your head. i don't plan to see him again, okay?" you reinstate by placing the brush on the dresser. "ugh, you're no fun!"
"you should be happy about this, you're one step closer to moving on from your asshole ex-boyfriend!" exclaims olivia. you take a step out of your bedroom, looking over your shoulder at your ginger friend. you smile sadly, "i don't think I'll ever be able to get over him."
"we are going to be late!" olivia yells as she tugs you out of bed. "i don't want to go," you protest, but the ginger pushes you into the bathroom. "get yourself ready and meet me outside, okay?" she smiles and goes away.
you sighed as you stood in front of your mirror and went about your business. wash your face, then apply skincare, makeup, hair, and finally your clothes. this consisted of a cropped white shirt, a black skirt, and boots. for the nightlife scene, this was your typical go-to.
you grab a leather jacket and your money on your way out the door to meet with olivia. âgreat, you're done!" she grins and grabs your arm. "and looking as hot as ever," you sigh, "i wear this every time we go out, olivia. this isn't anything new." you explain, and the two of you start walking up to the bar. "yes, but being single looks good on you... you look happier." she beams. you shrug and continue going, laughing as you say, "whatever you say."
you two arrived at the bar, which was already quite crowded with people you knew, and said your 'hi's and 'hello's' as you walked through the crowd to reach your normal friend group. this was a birthday party for one of your mutual friends; you were invited because you knew a few people there, but you didn't intend to stay long. after only a few drinks, you were dipping.
"hey, i'm going to get a drink, do you want anything?" you ask olivia, who was in the midst of a conversation. "um, no, i'm good for now," the redhead responds softly. you nod and turn around, headed for the bar.
you take a seat on a bar stool and order your usual, then pull out your phone and scroll for a few minutes as you wait for your drink.
"fancy seeing you here," you hear from behind you. when you turn around, a familiar face greets you.
calum hood.
you gaze at him for a time, blinking slowly, wondering why the hell he was at this party in the first place. how did he know your friend group?
"what? like what you see?" he laughs and walks up to the stool next to you. you discreetly giggle, rolling your eyes as you notice your drink in front of you. "you're full of yourself, calum," you say as you sip your drink. "well, you weren't thinking that when you were in my bed a few nights ago, were you?" he says, lifting his eyebrows as he speaks, attempting to elicit a reaction from you.
"oh god.." you mutter. calum follows you as you push yourself off the stool and onto the club floor. "come on, I was joking." when you hear his remarks, you shake your head and spin around to tell him off, but you freeze when you realize how close he is.
calum gazed back at you, his chocolate eyes piercing into yours. the way his wavy hair fell just above his eyes. you couldn't think straight when he was wearing a tight-fitting black t-shirt that emphasized his muscles- or how nice he looked in those black plaid pants.
calum hood was fine, and he knew it.
"you're a jerk," you reply, eventually jerking out of your daydream. as he steps closer, you can smell the tequila dripping from his breath. "oh yeah?" you say, nodding, "yeah." "well, you won't be saying that when you're in my bed again."
as you stare into his eyes, your grasp on your cup tightens. you couldn't take your eyes off him.
"fuck you."
he takes pleasure in your reply and leans in, his face right up against yours, whispering, "maybe later, sweets." then calum walks away, leaving you on the dance floor.
you find yourself back with olivia and your group of friends, scarfing down the drink knowing you needed to be intoxicated for the night ahead of you.
"i saw that," she says, as the two of you sway to the music. "what?" you inquire, attempting to appear clueless. "calum hood, hitting on you!!" she rolls her eyes. she giggles and pokes at your side. "no, it was nothing," you promise, moving her arm away. "whatever you say," she sings.
while you were on the dance floor with your friends, you were pretty intoxicated, and you knew he was watching you. you tried to ignore the sense of his eyes burning holes in the back of your skull. he observed your hips swaying to the music and the way your hair layed against your skin. It was driving him crazy.
flashes of you in his bed, your skin gleaming with sweat, the softness of your lips against his, or the touch of your nails on his back that sent thrills down his spine.
normally, he would never return to someone with whom he had a one-night encounter, but he couldn't get enough of you. he hasn't stopped thinking about you since that night.
you'd had enough of his glances and decided it was time to face him.
"stop" you say as you approach him. he blinks and asks, "what?." you sigh and roll your eyes. "i know you're staring, stop it." calum laughs and sets his drink on the bar. "i don't know what you're talking about, pretty." you sigh and rub your temples. "don't act innocent, i saw you." you say. he shrugs and leans forward. "oh, I'll show you innocent"
"calum, we can't do this," you say, looking him in the eyes. âIt was only once." you say, as if attempting to persuade yourself. "oh, yeah?" you cross your arms and nod. "because it seems you don't believe that." calum retorts, his hand coming to rest on your hip.
as he moves in closer, you catch the scent of his cologne combined with the booze on his breath, which sends a shudder down your spine. you see flashes of his figure hanging over you from a few nights before. you couldn't possibly lie to yourself because you think about it every day.
"i know you want me.. i see the way you look at me," he continues. "come on, let's have some fun." his thumb was tracing circles on the fabric of your skirt.
you look into his eyes, your stomach flipping. you didn't want to give in, you didn't want to become someone you weren't. but that was calum fucking hood, and you couldn't resist him when he looked at you like that. "fuck it," you state.
you gaze at the sleeping figure beside you, his breathing calm and steady. you couldn't help but feel bad, so you told yourself you wouldn't hook up with him again. you told yourself you'd never see him again. he was a celebrity, and you were just a city dweller who happened to get caught up with him.
you lie there for a moment, admiring calum. how could someone look so lovely while sleeping? you yank the covers off your legs and frantically dress to leave him yet again.
you collect your shoes at the exit, stand for a moment debating whether or not to leave your number, but you decide not to because this is the last time you'll see himâŚ
right?
from that night forward, you felt like the universe was messing with you because calum appeared to be at every party, club, or bar you went to. he'd approach you as if nothing was going to happen, as if he was teasing you in some way- but it always happened.
those nights, you'd always end up in his bed, never yours.
you couldn't help yourself; no matter how hard you tried to pretend you despised him, you couldn't keep the mask up because you always caved and went home with him.
it became a habit; you'd go out with friends or by yourself, secretly hoping calum would appear in some way.
some nights, you weren't even there to drink, just to be there.
it was the same thing every time: you'd pretend to despise him because a small part of you wanted a serious relationship yet couldn't get enough of him. he made you feel alive. your ex never made you feel that way. the only person who ever made you feel *loved* was calum. you both knew it was only for fun, but it made you wonder if it might ever turn into anything more. you were always silently wishing you had left your phone number all those times, wondering if he would have called or texted you.
plus, you were aware that your friends, particularly olivia, were becoming suspicious. you had recovered quickly from your split following that first night with calum. she knew youâd leave with him at those gatherings but she didnât stop it because you seemed to be doing better and you were a lot happier.
so far, calum was treating you right. at least, when the two of you were hooking up. so she never made any effort to stop what was happening.
for what felt like the hundredth time, you were back in his bed. instead of looking at him, you've turned your gaze to the ceiling. you know you should leave because it's about noon and you need to get home because you have plans with olivia later that day. you groan, running your hands over your face before getting out of bed and hunting for your clothing, all scattered along the floor.
"since you obviously don't want to stay," he spoke suddenly, causing you to pause in the middle of putting your shirt back on. calum raises up to rest on his elbows as your head spins around. "how about we just agree that this is a no-strings-attached situation," he suggested. you finish putting on your shirt and take your place at the foot of the bed. "calum.." you sigh, rubbing your eyes.
"y/n, just listen and consider it. we can keep doing what we're doing without making any commitments."
you stare at him, his hair was messy, he wasn't wearing a shirt, and you couldn't help but admire his physique. you lean down to grab your shorts, responding while you did so, "i'll think about it," before throwing on the rest of your clothes and leaving his bedroom. as you close the door behind you, you hear him sigh.
your hand was on the doorknob as you stood at the door, but you stopped yourself from opening it. you hated yourself as you reached into your bag for a pen and a random scrap of paper to jot down your phone number. you retrace your steps and leave it on his kitchen island. then you disappear from his home once again.
you unlock your apartment door and walk in, closing it behind you. you enter the kitchen, putting your bag on the counter and grabbing a water bottle.
"where have you been?" you jump out of your skin when you see olivia behind the refrigerator door. "what the hell, olivia!" you exclaim, nearly spilling the bottle. she's standing with her arms crossed with an intense stare. "did you hook up with him again?"
you move out of the kitchen and into your room, closing the fridge. "no, I don't know who you're talking about." you respond, but olivia isn't having it. "stop lying. you were with him last night and the nights before." "so?" you grumble.
"so?!", she exclaimed, you can't tell if she's really mad at you or just acting this way, she repeats. "you're having an fling with a celebrity! you have a habit of hooking up with him. surely something has to be there." she follows you to your room, standing in your doorway as she questions you.
"it's nothing, olivia. we just happen to be at the same location at the same time. okay?" you explain while looking for some clothes to change into.
"i call bullshit. you were never like this, until you met him." she continues, making you sigh. "it's just a distraction, okay?"
"I just...I don't know," you shrug, unable to express your feelings. "i'll meet you later, okay?" you turn away from her.
"actuallyâŚi have a date tonight," olivia confessed. "im sorry, but i'll have to cancel." she frowned. "that's fine," you say sympathetically over your shoulder. âhave fun, and please text me when you get home, okay?" olivia nods, singing, "i will, love you hot stuff" she passes by you to leave your shared apartment.
you're sitting on your sofa with a container of leftover takeout from a few nights ago after freshening up. olivia had somehow gotten you hooked on a cringe-worthy television show.
you were already two seasons in and couldn't recall a single episode. calum had made your memory fuzzy. you couldn't get him off your mind. you remained curious about what he was doing when you left. did he think of you the way you thought of him? did he ever wonder what you did when he wasn't there? though you convinced yourself you were just being delusional.
âŚright?
calum glances at the scrap of paper on his kitchen counter, his fingers tapping near his phone, unsure whether to wait to message you. calum was well aware that what he was doing was probably not wise. because, after all, hooking up with you was just for fun, right? so why was it so difficult for him not to think about you? why were you so difficult for him to forget? it was just intended to be once, but now calum thinks about you whenever he gets the chance.
calum sighs, picks up his phone, and starts punching in your phone number. he has no idea what he's doing, but he doesn't stop himself from sending you a message.
- âhey, itâs calumâ
you're standing in the kitchen right now, washing your hands, when your phone dings. your heart sunk as you looked over and said the message. you swiftly withdraw your hands from the sink, grab a towel, and dry them.
you take out your phone and read his message. You stare at it for a moment, unable to believe he actually messaged you.
-âheyâ
you respond as you stroll over to your sofa and sit on the cushions. you weren't anticipating anything from him because he'd practically established that the two of you were only in it for the fun of it and that was it. no strings attached. you don't hear from him again for the time being.
you're disappointed, but you return your focus to the television, hoping to forget about the singer on your mind.
you haven't heard from olivia in hours; she should've been home by now, but you guess she went to the guy's place she was seeing.
you get up from the sofa and grab your phone; all of your anxiety fades as you open your phone to calums' contact information and call him.
It rang several times before he answered. âhello?â
âhey, calum sorry if iâm bothering youâ
âno, youâre good. whatâs up?â
âi was just wondering if uhâŚif youâd want to hang out?â
"what do you have in mind?"
you laugh, "not like that"
you can hear him laugh in amusement, âsorry- yeah, sure. thereâs actually this party tonight and i wasnât going to go since i didnât have anyone to go with. would you be down for that?â
you pause for a moment, picking at your fingers. âsure! that sounds greatâ you answer.
ânice, iâll send you the address to ashtonâs place and iâll meet you there. see you tonight, sweets.â
you arrive at ashton's house, sitting in your car for a few minutes as you ran your options through your head. âwas this a smart decision? were you planning to do this?â you groan, taking your phone, and bag then exiting the car, heels clicking as you approached the entrance.
when you opened the door, you were greeted by the smell of alcohol and loud music. you stroll past the crowd near the entryway and start looking for the person you came here to see.
you notice him in the kitchen with his bandmates, he noticed you as well. with a tiny smile on his lips, he motions you over to the group.
"hey," you speak softly now that you're standing close to him. "hi," he greets, unconsciously placing his hand on the small of your back. "guys, i'm not sure if you remember, but this is y/n," he reminds before re-introducing you to the rest of the band.
"are you mark's sister's friend?" michael interjects, you nod. "yeah! i was the one in the blue top that night," you smile, everyone nods in acknowledgment. "well, i'm glad you could make it, if you need anything just let me know." "thank you," you nod nervously, then glance up to calum.
he offers to take you around and introduce you to some people to make you feel more at ease.
"i'm going to get something to drink, you want anything?" you make the offer to calum, who is seated on the sofa, he responds with a simple, "sure." you nod, heading to the kitchen by yourself, leaving calum with his buddies.
"how long have you two been together?" someone seated next to calum asked, he turns to see it was ashton's girlfriend. "oh, no- we aren't together." he responds, but her reply is unexpected. "are you serious?" she asks, calum nods. "no way," she whispered, astonished as she takes a sip from the crimson solo cup. "what?" calum questions.
"there's no way you two aren't together," she says again, "the way you look at her. i'm not sure what the two of you are up to, but you should figure it out," she concludes, chuckling. calum simply stares at her, her attention drawing elsewhere.
he thought about what she said the entire time you were gone. did he actually act that way? did he treat you as though you were his girlfriend? did he look at you in a way that suggested you two were dating? no⌠you two were just hooking up. nothing else.
he had no idea you were back until you spoke up. "here.." you offer, handing him the drink. calum looks up takes the drink you offered, "thank you sweetheart" "anytime, sugar" you chuckle and go for a seat, but all of them are taken⌠okay, so you would just stand up for the time being. when calum notices this, he reaches for your waist and pulls you down onto his lap. you look down at him, confused, âwhat are you doing?â he looks up at you with those eyes.
those big brown eyes that made you feel as if you were on cloud nine. calum looked at you like you were the only girl in the universe.
at least, thatâs what you told yourself.
âiâm not just gonna let you stand there.â he answered with a cheeky smile.
people started to leave after a few hours. you were still sitting on calum's lap as everyone else congregated in the living room, talking about whatever and playing drinking games.
you get up from the calum's lap, leaving your drink behind to walk to the restroom down the hall. you approach and knock, hearing someone in there. you stand a few steps away from the door and pull out your phone to pass the time.
after a few minutes, calum finds you. leaning his arms against the wall, effectively caging you between his arms as he stands in front of you. "whatcha doing?" he demands, boxing you in and staring at you. "I'm waiting for the bathroom," you say, glancing up at him.
"you know..." calum pauses, coming in closer. "my house isn't too far from here, and i have a bathroom..so..you can just use it there," you sneer at his offer, "how convenient.." you respond, just above a whisper.
you push yourself off the wall and past calum, leaving him speechless. "where are you going?" he asks, his arms at his sides. "your place. you coming or not?" you grin as you peer over your shoulder.
calum chuckles quietly as he approaches you and wraps his arm around your waist. he was nearly dragging you to the door. "sorry guys, we have to run!" he grabs your bag, carrying it for you before dashing out the door with you.
the others could only chuckle to themselves and smile knowingly as the two of you dashed away.
you're back in his bed, and you know it before you open your eyes. the smell of his bedsheets let you know you were back. the warm vanilla smell invaded your nostrils as you stretched and opened your eyes to find yourself staring at a familiar ceiling. you check over your shoulder for calum's sleeping figure, but he's not there.
you carefully sit up, bringing the sheet along to cover your chest and rubbing your eyes with your other hand. only then do you spew calum standing at the doorway wearing only basketball shorts. "good morning, princess," he says, and you groan, feeling a headache coming on. "i'm making breakfast if you want to stay," he says before walking out the door. you sigh as you get out of his bed and seek for your clothes before leaving his room for the kitchen.
you notice pancakes and fruit on a plate waiting for you. as he stands and consumes his food, you take a seat at the kitchen island. It's quiet for a few minutes before he speaks up.
"so i was thinking.." calum begins. you raise your head to look at him. "i know we said no strings attached but what if we expand the deal?" you lift your brows, confused as to what he was on about. "what do you mean?" you inquire. "at parties, we could be each other's automatic plus one. that way, we won't have to worry about who we go home with." you look up at him, then down at your plate, shifting some of the food about.
"i don't know, calum." you let out a sigh. you want to say yes, and you want to be around him at all times- but you just canât confess it. "i'm just tired of being ditched by the guys at events, and i wouldn't mind if you were the one to fill that spot," you gaze up, your eyes meeting his. "okay...i'm down," you nod, and calum smiles. "great."
you continue eating as silence fills the room, you donât really know how to keep a conversation with him since you two only hung out at parties. âwhenâs your birthday?â he asks. you chuckle, âwhat happened to no strings attached?â you ask, taking a drink of your water. âwell, we can be friends with benefits. friends can know things about each otherâ he rebuttals. you look at him, finally caving. ây/bdâ you answer, calum nods. âthatâs coming upâ you shrug, âits a couple months. what about you?â
âjanuary 25thâ he answers. âhappy belated birthdayâ you reply and he laughs. âso you do have a heart.â you rolls your eyes, âoh whatever.â you canât help but crack a smile.
calum admires you, how you still manage to look beautiful even in the makeup from the night prior and your hair is a mess. calum wants to be your friend, he wants to know stuff about you other than how you are in bed. he looks down at his plate, knowing he shouldnât be thinking of you as anything for than his fuck buddy.
âwhatâs something youâve always wanted to do?â
you think for a moment, your free hand is now supporting the weight of your chin. âhmm..iâve always wanted like a big birthday bash.â you answer, âbut i just never had the opportunity or people to go withâ you add. he nodded, making a mental note.
âââ
calum proceeds to ask you out every other night, claiming that he doesn't want to be alone. of course, you went, but it simply muddled your sentiments for him. because he made it apparent that you were just friends.
so what was it about him holding your hand at parties that got you so worked up? or when he'd hold your back as you walked through a crowd of people. you'd have to convince yourself to stop staring at him for so long before anyone noticed.
you opted to see someone else on the side in the hopes of sorting out your feelings because the only reason you had feelings for calum was because he was the only person you had been seeing this much, right? furthermore, calum had made it obvious that there were no strings attached.
"hello?" you answer the phone as you go inside your apartment after getting home from work. "hey! "I'm sorry if i'm bothering you," calum says over the phone. "no, i just got home from work. you're fine!â
âhow are you?" you ask, placing your keys on the table.
"i was just wondering if you're free tonight?" he inquires. you sigh and open your refrigerator to see if you have any snacks. "um, actually i was going out with a friend tonightâŚ" you speak, and on the other end you hear him sigh, "okay! if your plans fall through, let me know." you smile to yourself, "of course," and it gets silent for a bit as the two of you are at a loss for words, "well, i'll let you get ready then..." "alright...bye..." you say as you pull the phone away from your ear and finish the call.
calum sighs as he tosses his phone to the opposite end of the sofa and rests his head back. he knows that he should not be disappointed; you have your own life, and calum was only a little part of it, just as he had his own life but knowing he wouldn't be able to see you tonight hurt. so, instead of moping about, he decided to ask his bandmates if they wanted to hang out for the night.
however, the night was uneventful; luke had met a girl, michael was conversing with someone, and calum was left alone with ashton.
"isn't that the girl you're seeing?" ashton says unexpectedly, motioning towards you at the bar. calum looks over his shoulder and sees you talking with a guy.
calum is hurt, but he turns around and shrugs as he faces ashton. "we're not seeing each other, i don't like her like that," ashton chuckles as he sips his drink, "sure you don't," calum moans, "mate, cmon.."
âyouâre lying to yourself, mate. maybe you don't say you like her, but your eyes say everything." ashton spoke, calum knew it was true. he did like you, but he was unsure if you even considered him more than someone just to hook up with. you had been giving him mixed signals, because one night you were all about him but the next day you wanted nothing to do with him.
calum peers over his shoulder once more, this time observing that the guy that was now touching you, his hand on your leg, inching higher and higher. calum considers ashton's words and walks away from the table he was at towards you.
the way he felt was enough confirmation for his feelings for you. he wanted to be more than just a friend you sleep with. he wants to the be the person you come to during your darkest times, he wants to know your favorite songs, he wants to know your favorite movies, food, candy, animal, he wants to be your person.
âso when were you going to introduce me to your friend?â your head whips around to find calum standing behind the bar stool you sat at. âcalum?â you blink before turning back to your date who had now removed his hand from your thigh. âyou know him?â the man questions, eyeing calum.
âuhâŚheâs just my-â calum cuts you off, âboyfriendâ he finishes for you. your eyes go wide looking at calum again, you were about to open your mouth but calum beat you to it. âand we should be heading back nowâ he reaches for your waist, grabbing your purse and escorting you out of the bar.
"what the hell!?" you yell outside the bar, shoving him away from you. "you can't do that, calum! we're not exclusive, we are not dating; we're just friends who occasionally hook up" you hear calum chuckle and it sends you over the edge.
you huff and begin to walk away, but calum follows you and drapes his arm over your shoulder.
"youre mine and i don't share"
"where are you taking me?" calum walks next to you, instinctively leading you to his car. "home," he says, unlocking his car door and allowing you to enter before closing it and walking to the driver's side.
within a few minutes, you realize he's heading in the opposite way. "calum this isn't the way to to my place" you're saying. "I know," he replies, looking over at you. "i never said which home"
âget ready, im coming overâ
calum takes out his phone. he thinks nothing of the message you just sent him, presuming you're coming over to visit him. however, when you came and kept honking the car horn for him to come outside he was a bit thrown off.
when calum walks outside, he puts his phone and wallet in his pocket while walking over to your car. as you roll down your window, he leans in. "get in, we're going shopping," you say, music still playing and a smile on your face.
"why exactly do you need me for this?" calum inquires, his brow furrowed. you reply, "well considering you'll be the one taking it off i figured you might want to help me pick out something" while grinning. despite his flushed cheeks, calum takes a step back, unlocks the car door, and hops inside.
you took calum to the mall and modeled for nearly two hours while looking for the right outfit for your birthday. it had been two hours of no success until one of the last stores you visited had this leather skirt you had been eyeing for a while.
calum couldn't take his eyes off of your body when you emerged from the dressing room. both the halter top you chose and the skirt perfectly complemented one other. you drawled, "sooo?" hoping for a positive response. he answers right away, "yes." when you looked down at yourself, he speaks up again. âthatâs the one, you have to get it.â and you couldn't help but laugh. you nod and examine yourself in the mirror before returning to the dressing room to change into your clothing so you could check out.
you happen to pass a leather jacket on your way to the register. and it just so happens to go well with the skirt. additionally, you observe that calum is examining it longer than anything else you have so added in the store. you made the choice to pick it up, do your best to estimate his size, and continue moving forward to pay.
on the way back to your place you pick up takeout since it was getting late in the evening and you both were starving.
when the two of your arrive home, you get comfortable on the sofa and begin picking out a movie while calum is in the kitchen sorting out the food before bringing it all into the living room. you picked out a movie and the two of you eat in peace, enjoying each others company.
afterwards, you had started cleaning up all the empty containers and throwing it away with the help of calum.
âwill you put the skirt on again? i forgot what it looks likeâ calums asks and you laughed, looking over your shoulder. âseriously?â he nods. you pause for a moment before rolling your eyes and sigh, âfine.â
you walk out of your bedroom in the skirt but you hid something behind your back, looking a bit shy. which was unusual because you never acted like this around calum, so he knew something was up. ây/n, whatâs behind your back?â he asks in a teasing tone and you begin walking towards him slowly. âokay, so, donât be mad but i may have picked you up something too..â
she grins bringing the jacket from behind her and handing it towards him.
âiây/n/n please tell me you didnât buy this leather jacket for meâ you take a few steps forward. âiâve never heard you say please before. this is new.â you say, smirking. calums rolls his eyes but he canât help but smile and you continue, âbut yes i did. i saw you eyeing it so i grabbed itâ
he tries to hide his smile. âwell go on, put it onâ you help him into the jacket and itâs then when he notices. âdid you get this so we could match?â he says laughing. âno i absolutely did not! i just wanted to do something nice for youâ he quickly responds âyou didnât have to go through the trouble of getting more clothes sweetheart. taking some off wouldâve had the same effectâ he chuckles. you playfully hit his chest and say âyouâre insufferable.â you look away but then looks back smiling.
âbut yeah maybe i wanted us to match a little bit. sue meâ he grabs your waist and pulls your closer, you feel his thumb drawing circles on your exposed skin and it sends shivers down your spine. âwell i certainly appreciate the thought, sweets. now we just need an occasion to show up everyoneâ calum teases, leaning in. his lips only inches from yours, you feel your cheeks warm up. âcalum..â you warn but he continues to close the space between the two of you. âitâs just one kiss..â
you hate your birthday, it was the one day of the year you always found yourself to be the most miserable despite having people who loved you around. you still felt so unhappy.
ây/n, are you ready? you canât be late to your own party!â olivia calls out from the living room. you exit your bedroom, meeting her in the room. âiâm ready, im readyâ you say, throwing your bag on your shoulder. ây/n..â you hear olivia sigh, she takes a few steps towards you and puts her hands on your shoulder.
âlighten up. i know you hate your birthday but this year im not
letting you be miserable. kay?â she gently shakes you enough for you to crack a smile and nod, âgoodâ she says, linking her arm with yours.
ânow letâs go before people think you bailed your own birthday party.â
the two of you arrive to the same club where you had first met calum yet this time, the atmosphere was different.
no purple, pink, or red lights. no promotional posters in the windows. instead, you see white paper decorations and warm fairy lights.
you enter the bar in front of olivia and hear a loud uproar of people cheering as you did and some people even popping confetti. you couldnât help but laugh as you walked through the crowd, seeing all of your close friends standing around celebrating you.
olivia was also giddy, knowing she had planned this whole thing along with calum.
âyou guys didnât have to do this!â you said over the music after you saw the cake sitting in the middle of the room, youâre beaming with joy. for the first time in a long time you were excited to be celebrating your birthday.
you spent time greeting people and thanking them.
some of these people you havenât seen in years and it made you feel like things were finally getting better.
just as you were about to catch up with some old friends, the lights dimmed and you heard some light strumming from the nearby stage.
you look over seeing four familiar figures underneath the red stage lights.
âhello everyone,â luke begins, adjusting the mic. âif you all donât know, we are five seconds of summerâ the crowd roars at the name drop and some people are playfully hitting your shoulder not knowing your tied with the band.
âwe just wanted to say we are truly honored to be back at the place we showcased our recent album, and of course to celebrate the birthday girls special day.â .
âso, happy birthday, y/n. we hope you have a wonderful year.â luke beamed.
the set was at least forty-five minutes long, they had played mostly their new stuff off the youngblood album but dropped in a few older songs.
you were over the moon.
to say you had five seconds of summer perform at your birthday party? thatâs huge.
you never thought youâd end up in this position.
to say you had personal connections to people as big as calum, or even the whole band for that matter.
tonight was a night youâd definitely never forget.
standing outside the club, you watch the people inside dance and get lost in each other. the whole scene was almost melancholy- the way everyone was there to celebrate you. the night was near ending and you felt so cramped in there, you thought you'd spend the last few hours of your birthday catching your breath.
"hey you" calum voice interrupts your thoughts, a cigarette between his fingers as he watches you from a close enough distance. you furrow your brows, "didn't know you smoked"
he quickly flicks it to the floor, stepping on it a few times before picking up the trash.
"Is it a turn off?"
"no no i just didn't know" you shrug and look back up at the sky, "i don't think i know anything about you aside from you're good in bed and you like whiskey" he chuckles now, stepping closer to you and placing his hands on your waist.
"well, ask me anything you want"
you watch as he looks away for a moment, searching for the perfect question.
"if you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?"
your eyes don't leave the sky as you think, long and hard about the question. "iâd love to see paris... it's been my dream since i was a child."
you could feel his hands loosen from your waist, he steps infront of you and stared down at your face with a smile. It's almost like he's thinking of what to do or what to say next.
âparis?â he repeats.
you nod, tilting your head to the side, studying him. "what about you?"
calum had now completely removed his arm from your waist as he leans down to rest his elbows on the metal railing.
âconsidering iâve toured around the world, ive been to plenty of amazing placesâ he says, looking back to see if you were looking at him.
âi donât have just one, too many places, not enough time to exploreâ he answered.
you nod, looking away towards the city. the nightlife in downtown los angeles was a lot lively than normal.
probably because your birthday fell on a friday this year, so all of the bars were jam packed and faint music flooded the streets.
you inhale, about to say something as your turn your attention back towards the brunette.
ây/n! cmon!â olivia grabs your wrist pulling you inside and away from calum, towards the large cake so you could blow out the candles.
âcome on birthday girl, make a wish!â olivia cheers along with everyone standing around. you laugh, âokay okay!â. you blow out the candles and everyone begins to cheer. olivia hugs your side and giggles, âwhat did you wish for?â she asks. you grin petting her head, âif i tell you it wonât come true, will it?â your eyes flicker between calum and olivia as you speak.
you hear olivia groan in annoyance. someone amongst the crowd, you guess ashton, you could recognize that arm anywhere, points to the cake and says, "birthday girl gets first pick!"
you finally see his figure merge from behind someone with a plastic plate and knife. "what piece does my girl want?" ashton continues.
you examine the cake once more and point to a corner piece smothered in the purple icing with a kiddish like grin on your face. ashton's nods and begins to cut you a piece.
as it nears the end of the night and the bar slowly begins to empty out, you've found yourself at the bar watching everyone says their goodbye and share a hug with you before leaving the building.
the music was faintly playing now, compared to when you had arrived eariler.
solo cups trashed the floor, paper plates and napkins scattered the bar table. you look down at the glass setting in front of you as you swirl around the liquid contents. you didnât even notice calum approaching.
âhow was your birthday?â he hums, sitting next to you.
âgoodâ you smile, resting your head on your hand. âtonight was good. you did great on stage.â
âyeah?â calum raises his eyebrows, you see a playful smirk forming on his lips. âmhm, very rockstar.â
calum laughs at your comment and then the two of you fall silent, watching as some people begin cleaning up the mess.
âcan i talk to you?â calum questions, turning his focus back to you.
you nod, âyeah, of courseâ
âin private.â he adds.
you raise your eyebrows , wondering what he needs to say that he canât in front of your friends.
âsureâ
calum takes your hand and leads you towards the back door, which you had no idea was back here.
when he opens it, you see a patio with a string of fairy lights surrounding the area.
âyouâre going to think i was stalking you or something, but this just happened by chance. i swear.â calum stands you in front of him as he reaches in his back pocket and hands you a plane ticket.
âweâll be in paris on the first leg of our tour and i had an extra ticket.â he stated. you look up at him wide eyed, then do a double take to make sure you were seeing it right. âcalum..what? iâŚi just i canât just-â
âi want you there.â he adds.
âi want you in paris with me, hell- i want you on the whole tour with me. please, take itâ he offers it to you again, making you take it.
âoh my godâ you mutter, looking down at the ticket now in your hand.
âthe flight is in two days, i know itâs hella last minute but i figured its now or neverâ calum speaks softly.
youâre still at a loss for words, your body working faster than your mind as your wrap your arms around calums figure. âthank you so muchâ you say into his shoulder.
âanytimeâ he hums, hugging you back.
âcmon cal! we gotta head back.â michael can be heard from the bar.
the australian pulls away and offers a warm smile, âsee you in paris..â he says and walks off. âbye..â
youâre quick to whip your phone out and text olivia before heading back to your apartment partment
âyoull never believe what just happenedâ
âis this a good or bad thingâ
âuhh good? i think? i hope soâ
âwell dont leave me in the dark what happenedâ
âcalum gave me a ticket to parisâ âWHAT, Y/N THATS HUGE. are you gonna goâ
âi mean, id feel bad if i didnt. i hate how easy it is for me to like him.â
âweâre so having a debriefing when you get home.â
the plane ride was long and tiresome, eleven hours of being so uncomfortable in the seats and having someone next to you who had no regard for personal space. plus, you just hated planes in general.
but once the plane landed, you felt a wave of relief and soon enough you were off the plane and navigating your way through the foreign airport.
once you get to baggage claim you wait for your luggage and once you have it, you begin looking around for a familiar person.
you round a corner and finally see the one you had been searching for. âthereâs my pretty girlâ calum says, as his eyes lands on you as he makes his way towards you.
âi look awful calumâ you laugh as his arms wrap around you tightly. âno such thingâ he says into your hair before pulling away. âhow was the flight?â he adds, taking your luggage from your hand then linking his free hand with yours while leading you out of the airport.
âlongâ you laugh tiredly, as you watch him load your bags into the back of the car.
the uber back to the hotel that calum was staying at was nice, being able to see nice scenery before youâd sleep for the next twelve hours.
the plan was, youâd sleep for as long as you could until calums show tomorrow, then hopefully, youâd be well rested and enjoy his concert and have a few days in the city to spend with him.
still only as friends..right?
while you start unpacking, calum was helping. âwhen are you going to sleep?â he asks, taking your now empty suitcase and putting it next to his as you were folding and putting the clothes in the dresser. âprobably when i get done here.â you say closing the drawer to the dresser.
âno, youâre notâ calum says, causing you to stop and turn to him. âwhat?â you blurt, harsher than you wanted. âwhat do you mean ânoââ.
âi mean no because iâm taking you out tonight.â âcalumâ you try to interject but he doesnât let you. âwere going out tonight, no ands, ifs,or buts. kay?â he says, walking towards you. âand be sure to wear that skirt, you look good in it.â he whispers into your ear.
âwhat skirt?â you ask, trying to act oblivious.
calum scoffs a little, âyou know the one.â
you finish swiping the last bit of mascara onto your lashes and close the tube, then check yourself in the mirror once more wanting to make sure you outfit was good enough.
âyou done?â you hear calum voice ring the hotel room into the bathroom. âyeah!â you yell back and grab your lipstick, touching up your lips before throwing it and a gloss in your bag and exit the bathroom .
âyou look greatâ calum grins, walking towards you. his arm snaking around your waist and pulling you closer. you grin, taking notice just how good he looks in leather jacket. âso do you, mr.rockstar.â âyeah?â he smiles, you nod. âyeah. you ready?â you ask. âyep let me get my walletâ
the night was nearing an end, you walked down the street next to calum, luke and sierra followed behind the two of you. calum had taken you all over the city, to nice cafes, his favorite spots from the last time he visited, and a museum. it was truly a wonderful day in the city of love.
the four of your turn a corner and suddenly youâre shocked by the bright dazzling lights of the eiffel tower.
youâre starstruck, you mustâve stopped in your tracks became calum looks back at you, âyou cominâ?â he grins, holding out his hand for you to take.
you felt like a kid in a candy store as you approached the structure. it felt like something out of a dream. you werenât sure why you loved the idea of being in paris, but you were here now. standing in front of the famous landmark in the world, it was so beautiful you could cry.
âwow..â you speak breathlessly. the twinkling lights reflected in your eyes, the way it stood out against the dark sky, it felt like the most magical thing you had ever seen.
youâre quick to take your phone out and snap a couple pictures, not wanting to forget this moment. it would be something you would talk about forever.
âhey y/n-â sierra taps your shoulder. your spin around and face the girl, âmm?â
âcare to take a pic of me and luke?â
âsure!â you take the phone from sierra as the couple poses in front of the sight. âiâll take a couple so pose however you wantâ you smile and begin snapping pictures of the two.
luke and sierra were a good couple, they complimented each other very well. and from what youâve seen of sierra she was a good friend and good girlfriend to luke.
âcheck those, make sure you like themâ you hand the phone back to sierra so she can check them.
âperfect! thank you so much!â sierra beams looking at the photos then up at you.
âdo you want some with calum?â she asks.
you look over at calum who was already looking at you. âum, sure!â you hand your phone to sierra.
you and calum stand next to each other and let sierra snap a couple pictures together. luke is standing behind sierra watching as she makes sure to get all the angles.
âbeautiful!â she exclaims with a wide grin as she hands your phone back to you so you could check the pictures.
you swipe through the pictures awhile calum looks over your shoulder.
âgod damnâ the australian begins, âwe look good together.â
and it was true. you did look good together. maybe you could picture being with him more than his âfriendâ.
your eyes flutter open to the soft rays of the sun peeking in through the sheer white curtains of the hotel room. âmorning, prettyâ you hear calum say causing you to look over your shoulder where he sat on the opposite side of the bed.
you groan quietly, rubbing your eyes as you slowly sit up to lean against the headboard. âmorninâ you reply followed by a yawn. âwhat time is it?â ânoonâ calum answers, turning off his phone. âdamnâ you reply knowing youâve slept almost a whole day. âsorryâ you say but calum shakes his head, âdonât apologize, you needed the rest. plus, youâll be well rested for tonightâ he grins, you shake your head and playfully push his shoulder.
âwhatâs on the agenda for today?â you yawn again, and calum leans back on the headboard. âwell, we have to be at the venue at two and soundcheck is at threeâ. he says, checking his phone for the time.
âgood, gives me plenty of time to get readyâ you say, reaching for your phone. âdo you want to leave with me or do you wanna just come whenever youâre done?â you shrug thinking about how long itâll take you to get ready. âi might just uber after iâm done that way i donât have to rush.â you start, ripping the cover off of your legs. âplus itâll give me enough time to make sure i look good for you tonight.â you say with a grin before getting out of the bed and making your way to the bathroom.
calum laughs before calling out to you âyouâre a tease, you know that?â you smile to yourself using water for your shower. âalways!â you holler back.
youâre sat in the back of an uber staring out the back passenger window. the venue isnât very far from the hotel so the ride wasnât too bad. when you arrived you saw the line of fans outside all waiting in queue you smiled to yourself, feeling proud of the band, and calum.
you step out of the vehicle and walked around like a lost puppy trying to look for oliviaâs brother, mark.
you take the time to see everyone waiting in line dressed in their best and looking beautiful.
âoh thank godâ you start, spotting the blonde man. ây/n! you made it!â mark smiles, pulling you in for a hug.
âyeah, thank god, i almost got lost.â mark nods and begins leading you down a long corridor until reaching the dressing rooms. âi figured youâre here for calum?â you look up, staring at him for a moment before blinking. âthat obvious huh?â mark laughs, then hands you a vip laminated lanyard. âkeep this on you, have fun and enjoy the show.â he adds as he pats your shoulder.
you watch as he walks away, taking a deep breath as you open the door peeking your head in. you see the guys spread out in the room until calum looks up from his phone to greet you.
âits about time you got here, i was about to worry.â he says, now pulling you into their dressing room. his tan arms wrap around your figure and you get a whiff of his cologne.
he keeps you close to your side as the other guys come up to greet you. âwas it hard to find?â calum inquires, you shrug, âi walked around the building until i eventually found mark and now im hereâ you laugh. âprobably a little late, traffic was crazyâ
calum smiles, âall good, at least youâre here now. thatâs all that matters.â he says, slinging his arm over your shoulders.
âall right guys, theyâre all ready for youâ some stage manager, you had to guess, said as they popped their head in the door.
you separate from calum as he fixed his in-ear-piece and grabs his bass. you smile at him and give him a thumbs up and watch as he followed behind the other three.
âare you sierra and y/n?â and woman enters the room, her dirty blonde hair was cut to about her shoulders but it was obviously growing out. she had a welcoming smile and comforting aura. the two of you nod. âperfect, iâm hannah i can take you guys to your seats!â she beams and then the two of you follow her out into the arena where she showed where the two of you would be at.
side of the pit, calums side, so it was actually perfect for you. âare you guys going to be on the rest of the tour?â
âi willâ sierra smiles. then hannah turns towards you.
âoh, i donât know yetâ you laugh, taking a swig of your drink.
âwell, iâll be on the tour with the guys so if you every need anything just look for me.â she smiles again. âenjoy the show!â
it was incredible to see, they were truly in their element. each of the acting as if they were born to be on stage.
âwow!â michael hollers about midway through their performance, taking a small break in between songs. luke is still strumming quietly in the background. âparis, how the fuck are we feeling?!â the crowd erupts in loud cheers.
âitâs great to be back after so longâ he continues, then takes a glance at his band mates. âhow are you all liking paris?â
âgood, i love it hereâ luke answers, earning a few hollers from the crowd.
âhow you liking paris, cal?â
âwhat about the view here? itâs such a beautiful placeâ luke interjects.
âyou seen anything nice lately, calum?â luke continues
âyup, the views in my hotel room are amazing.â
your heart stopped, it was subtle. just enough for only you to notice. he was definitely mentioning you.
âdo you mean from?â luke chimes.
you can faintly see calum smile as he laughs into the mic, âyup, my bad.â
âalrighty then.â michael pauses, luke had taken a few steps back from the mic but could still be been laughing.
âthen how about you introduce the next song?â
âthe next song is for all those who end up meeting someone and know it wonât be more than just having fun. and theyâre okay with that. talk fast.â
you wondered what it looked like from their perspective. you turn to face the crowd and youâre overwhelmed with what you see. people screaming their lungs out to the lyrics, some dancing with their friends, you even see some people crying. you also see some signs. some more creative than others, and some sweeter than others.
you manage to spot one that made you a little uncomfortable; âcall me red with the way i be riding hoodâ
sure, clever, but it made you realize that if you had a shot with calum, whatâs stopping him from hooking up with any other fan when youâre not around?
shit.
maybe you did like him more than just a fuck buddy.
during the next intermission you and sierra had made some small talk until you overheard some girls next to you in the pit talking about calum.
âoh iâd totally fuck him.â she says nonchalantly. âi bet you i could easily pull him by the end of the night, i just need to find my way in.â she giggles.
you shift on your feet and turn to sierra who also heard it. âwelcome to my life..â she raises her eyebrows then take a sip of her drink.
you sit in silence on the uber ride back to the hotel. calum sat to your right, you knew he was looking at you and he wanted to ask what was wrong.
did you have a bad night?
was the show bad?
the whole way back to the hotel you hadnât spoken one word to him. you didnât even look at him.
why did you feel like this?
calum wasnât even yours. you had no valid reason to be angry.
except you did.
you were afraid that he would want someone else, that you were easily replaceable. you couldnât deal with that, you couldnât go through another heartbreak.
you shouldâve known that messing with him wouldâve lead to this, but you were naĂŻve and wanted something to distract you from your ex boyfriend.
your feet seem to have a mind of their own as you storm past calum and out into the freezing cold.
"y/n/n, cmon don't be this way", he laughs innocently while pacing himself behind you.
you donât say anything except press the elevator button and wait impatiently for the doors to open. you really couldnât tell anyone why you were being so stubborn, hell, you didnât even know why.
once the doors opened you were quick to slip in and press the button to your floor. you stand with your arms crossed, staring blankly at the metal. doors. you were quietly wishing he would say something, anything at all.
ây/n?â he tries reaching for your arm but you shrug him off. ânot in the mood cal.â you reply. you knew you were being stubborn and very annoying.
he hasnât given you a reason to act this way towards him.
you knew you were overreacting. plain and simple.
*ding*
the elevator doors opened and you walk through the hallway towards your bedroom. you scan the keycard and open the door letting calum follow behind you like a lost puppy.
you throw your purse on the bed and take your jacket off. ây/n. please.â you hear him sigh. calum feels guilty and he doesnât even know what the hell he did. but whatever it was he was going to fix it. he couldnât take you being mad at him like that.
âwhy dont you go bother someone else, looked like there was plenty that would love to be in your bedâ you hiss, the words spilling from your lips like venom.
calum stops in his tracks, also removing the leather jacket from his shoulders and tossing it on the bed. âwhat?â he asks, dumbfounded.
âdonât play dumb, cal.â
âi donât know what you mean, y/n.â he bites back.
âi mean, if you can sleep around with me whatâs stopping you from sleeping with your fans?â you confess.
calum just stares at you, âwhat? what are you talking about?â the bassist was genuinely confused, you had never reacted, at least, not when he was around.
âthe people at the show, cal. the signs, their outfits, the way they talk about you-â
calum cuts you off, âlook, i donât know where this is coming from or why youâre acting like this but-â
âiâm acting like this because it was never just about being friends with benefits calum!â you confess, staring at him intently. âi canât keep acting like im okay with not being able to love you. i donât want to be hurt again. not by youâ
everything came spewing out of you like a waterfall. all the months of pent up frustration and confusion had finally found its way into the world.
you were so frustrated you didnât even realize what you had said, you turn to look out the window and stare at the lights from the city.
calum doesnât say anything, racking his brain to make sure he heard you right. you said you loved him, without really even saying the three words.
âyou said you love me.â
you look over at him, âwhat?â
âyou just said you âcanât keep acting like you donât love meâ.â he repeats.
you shake your head and look away from him. âi didnât.â you try to get him to leave it alone.
âyou didâ he sighs, coming next to you and takes you by the shoulders and turns you to face him. âyou practically said you love me.â
âcalum-â
âi love you too.â he smiled. âi donât know if that means anything now but i do. i have for a while.â he confessed.
ây/n, youâre nothing like i imagined you would be. when i met you that night in the bar i thought youâd be like all the other girls, which i know doesnât help, but; this has been the best past year of my life and i think of you more than someone i fuck occasionally.â calum is looking into your eyes. âyouâre more than that, y/n/n.â
there are tears welling in your eyes, you shake your head. âi donât want to be hurt again. i donât think i could take it.â calum nods, reaching for your hands.
âi understand, but trust me when i say that id never do anything to hurt you, okay?â calum assures, âyouâre everything and more.â
*buzz*
*buzz buzz*
you groan and reach for your phone, opening one eye to look at the notifications. you have over ten messages and five calls from olivia. you sigh, wanting to ignore her antics but maybe it was an emergency. you unlock your phone and see all the messages.
âgirl check instagram.â
âwhat time is it thereâs
âare you asleep?â
âomg omg y/n!!!!â
âyouâre not gonna believe this.â
âgirl iâm freaking out !!!!!â
ây/n please check your instagram.
âyouâre gonna flip.â
â please wake up.â
âiâm calling youâ
you sit up in confusion and then check your other notifications to see over hundreds of notifications from instagram. âwhat the hellâ you croak and then open the app.
âcalumhood tagged you in a post.â
you swipe through the pictures until you see the very last picture which was you standing in front of the eiffel tower with your back turned to him admiring the view and then you saw the caption; âthey say paris is the city of love <3â
you practically shoot up from your position staring wide eyed at the phone. you read some of the comments in a panic.
âlukehemmings: itâs about damn timeâ
ashtonirwin: finally! donât hurt my girl;)
calumhood replying to ashtonirwin: your girl?
ashtonirwin replying to calumhood: yep:)
michaelclifford: called it!
sierradeaton: you posted the pic !! omg !!!
5sos_updates: the last slide omg!?!? also last night was crazy!
iheartcalumhood: whoâs the girl?
âcalum??â you say out, hoping he was still in the room.
you hear the bathroom door open. âyeah?â he asks walking around the corner only dressed in a pair of basketball shorts.
âwhy did you post that?â you ask showing him the instagram post. âi wanted to prove to you that everything i said last night is trueâ
you blink, staring at him with little to no expression. âyour first thought to do that was post me on your instagram?â
âuhh i guess? should i not have done that?â you crack a smile and look down at your phone, âi cant believe you, cal.â you say, falling back on the bed to scroll through more comments.
âcanât go back on it nowâ he says, standing at the foot at the bed.
âyouâre stuck with me foreverâ he says crawling on the bed, hovering over your figure. âreally? because ashton said i was his girl. sounds like you have some competition, hood.â you state, showing calum his comment.
he takes your phone and tosses it somewhere else on the bed. ânope, youâre my girl forever and always.â he hums leaning in to leave kisses on your neck which earned giggles from you. âcalum!â

All Too Well | Calum Hood
Pairing:Â Calum Hood x Reader (she/her)
Summary:Â It's the first time ever when Calum and Y/N didn't need to be apart, as they were going on tour together. However, things could never just be perfect, could they?
Warning:Â angst, fluff, a bit of cursing
Word Count:Â 1 725
Requested: yes
Authorâs Note: This was the one I worked really hard to make it softer than it initially was. It'd say it's more of an angst story still, however, not too heavy, and there are sweet moments, too ⥠Inspired by Taylor Swift's short film "All Too Well". I hope you'll like it!
It almost felt like Christmas, when Y/N and Calum took a seat next to each other in the plane. It was the first time when the girl was going on tour with him, and both were very excited.
Cal was really glad they finally managed to go together, they didnât need to be separated for so long again.Â
Y/N could compare it with a miracle, truly. The last month was very stressful, as she had to do a lot at work before getting a remote project. At some point Y/N even doubted she was going to finish everything in time. However, there she was, holding a hand in Calumâs, while he was quietly sleeping on her shoulder. There was no need to be homesick, because Calâs home was right next to him. And Y/N didnât need to learn how to live alone again, because she was in the company of a loved one.
Sometimes âtoo perfectâ could bring unexpected problems. It couldnât all go smoothly. The musician wasnât exactly a pessimist, but he always agreed with that way of Y/Nâs thinking.Â
However, Calum didnât exactly expect his girl to blow up easily only because he didnât pay much of attention to her after a concert. For Cal it wasnât a big deal. Once they finished the performance, everyone went to have dinner in their dressing room, not being able to wait for any longer and go to some restaurant nearby. It was a usual evening, chatting with the bandmates and discussing how good the concert was. Y/N was happy that fans were welcoming and active during the whole show, and of course, she could share the joy of her boyfriend, but it still felt slightly uncomfortable. Even though they started dating a while ago, Y/N didnât know Calumâs friends well. She surely didnât mind him spending time with them, but the girl hoped for some little reassurance here and there; after all, it was the first time, when she went on tour. Few attempts to join the conversation were interrupted by her own boyfriend, and Y/Nâs mood went down completely. Yet, she stayed polite and kept smiling lightly, ignoring unpleasant feelings inside. The girl didnât ask for much, she only hoped Cal would stop making her feel that dumb, would stop as if reminding her that she didnât belong there. As if she wasnât there at all, even when Y/N tried to touch Calumâs palm. She wasnât begging for attention, the girl only thought that as she came with him, theyâd spend more time together. Wasnât it the point? All of sudden Y/N felt like a mannequin which Cal would look at only when he needed it.Â
âYou just walked in the room and behaved as if I wasnât there!â
Y/N tried. She really tired. The girl promised herself she wouldnât make a scene, she wouldnât argue, because it was a very wrong place and time. However, Calum brought up the topic himself, saying she was âhell annoyingâ and looked âweirdly upset.â
âI was fucking tired! Exhausted, Y/N! I didnât mean anything, I was just hanging out with my friends!â Cal blew up immediately, although by nature he was pretty calm. âIâd look at you if youâd jump around, sing for few hours, Y/N. Would you have powers for anything else after it?â the guy run a hand through his hair and sighed heavily, apparently analysing what he had just said.
Calum used to say he valued words a lot, the musician hated when people would tell things they didnât actually mean. He never rushed up to answer on the interviews; Cal liked to think first, before saying anything, completely anything. Perhaps, thatâs why sudden accusations shocked Y/N that much. If he said it, he probably really meant it, and that was quite upsetting. The girl never even dared to think that Calum wasnât a hard worker or that his job wasnât difficult. Of course, it was, and she knew it very well. Thatâs why Y/N was always there, supporting him no matter what. And yet, she couldnât get the connection between him acting like a moron during the dinner and blaming her for saying he wasnât tired. She never even said it.
âYou know what? Back off," after a short pause Y/N realised that she was too overwhelmed to continue arguing. These past days were rather exhausting, the trip, so far, was very stressful as there were too many unknown faces, and Calâs words didnât exactly make the girl feel any better.
âY/NâŚâ
âNo, Cal, youâre right," she nodded, being dangerously calm.
The girl grabbed a bag and threw a phone in there. Y/N wasnât going to leave, itâd be too immature of her, but she desperately needed fresh air and time alone at that moment. Lately it was getting harder to breathe, and she finally admitted that she was simply choking. Being busy with tour and job issues the girl didnât have time to check on herself. For some reason, Calum didnât see it either, apparently, he was busy working, as well. She knew how it could be, so the girl wasnât blaming him. At times Cal couldnât take care even of himself.Â
"How would I know? Youâre the only one who works hard," Y/N snapped, regretting she took that hell of a project at first place just to be closer to Cal. What for? Surely, emotions were speaking at that moment, and sometimes it was very hard to gain control of them. Suddenly nothing was working anymore, their relationship included.
âI didnât mean it this way," Calumâs voice became small, too. He gently touched the girlâs wrist with his fingers, and felt a little relief, as Y/N didnât attempt to break the touch. However, her eyes didnât give him any hope.
âNo, you did.â
âNo, I didnât," he hurried up to deny. "Look, Iâm just stressed, I swear IâŚ" her hand slipped through his fingers, and Y/N headed to the exit of the dressing room. "I know youâre⌠Y/N, câmon! Donât do this right now!" Cal outraged. "Weâre trying to talk, and youâre running away again!"
"Itâs you, who is trying to talk, Calum!" the girl turned around quickly, hoping her body wouldn't betray, and salty tears wouldnât flow down the cheeks. "You canât even understand me! I worked as hard as you to get here at first place! I donât mind you hang out with friends and have a rest after the concerts, but since the day one of the tour youâve never asked how I was feeling! I donât even know these people! They are total strangers to me," she finally broke in tears. Cal didnât dare to touch her and only watched from the distance. "And this evening I only asked for a small reassurance, I wanted to feel that youâre here with me, because I donât feel damn comfortable here, I need time! And now you make me feel like a total dickhead for asking that, because you are damn tired, because you had a show to perform! Maybe it was a bad idea to come with you at first place. It could have been totally different," she shook the head and looked down, wiping the tears with her fingers quickly.
A storm was attacking inside, Cal wanted to say a lot, but words got stuck in his throat.
"I had no idea," he finally mumbled, feeling rather ashamed. "This tour⌠is really important to me," the musician continued, even though everything didnât seem to have any sense once he spoke it out loud. "I was too focused on work, but it doesnât mean I forgot about you, Y/N," Cal made a step forward and reached out to her uncertainly. The fingertips didnât touch hers, he was waiting for the girl to do it instead, if she wanted to. Or waiting to give him a sign that he was allowed to.
The girl closed the eyes for a moment and shook the head negatively. She touched a handle of the bag to avoid Calumâs sudden affection.Â
"I know itâs hard for both of us," she spoke up quietly. "But we need to learn how to understand each other, and Iâm tired of being the only one who is trying to do that. Relationships donât work this way."
"I know. I fucking know," he lost it, made a step forward and squeezed Y/N in his arms, resting a head on her shoulder. For that Cal had to bend down a little, but it was worth it. "Iâm sorry."
A heavy sigh left Y/Nâs lips. She looked up on the ceiling, hoping to stop herself from crying again. Just some time ago Calum was behaving like a sick superstar, and now he was asking for forgiveness. Why was it always like a seesaw with him? And why did she still love him?
The girl closed the eyes and tilted her head to touch the top of his with a tip of a nose. Cal smelled with berries â a shampoo she bought him few days before the very first tour. Since that time she was always doing it, and Calum was always taking the black jar with blueberries on the cover with him. Funny, that smell reminded him of her. And to Y/N that smell reminded her of them. Them, being together, happy, in love.
"I love you," she whispered, feeling that sudden wave of affection after a long day and bitter argument that left a small but still a wound on the heart.
"I love you more," he whispered back and hid the face in a crotch of her neck, leaving then a short kiss on her skin.Â
The touch was too familiar to give up on everything they went through. Calum knew he needed to keep in mind that the tour was going to be be different, as his girl was there. He needed to give Y/N time, as it wasnât normal for her as for him, who has been performing since a young age.
"I know I didnât give you the best tour experience so far," Cal whispered in her ear after a long silence. "But, please, let me try again."
